We were in town for our daughters sporting event and found this place on Yelp. Excellent find! First impressions were great! Excellent decor, good draft beer selections, and a really nice menu. I had the Fiesta Chicken and my wife had the sesame ginger shrimp. Both looked great, were served hot, and tasted very good. Highly recommend this place and will keep it in mind when in Rhinelander again.
My parents have lived here for over 20 years and going out to eat was always disappointing. No more! This place was great! Wine selection that did not include Mogan David is always good sign. Fish was cooked perfectly. Generous portions. Medley of zucchini and carrots was nice and not "standard" stemless veggies. Great service. Excited to try other menu items!
Absolutely delicious! Great menu selection.. you wont be disappointed! Food with a twist (bacon wrapped scallops are amazing). Staff was fantastic.. you'll have s great evening

I'll be cutting off my own nose to spite my face telling you all how WONDERFUL this place is. There will never be room for me again! :) Hosts Steve and Tom are accommodating (oh, pun-pun) and delightful. Not to mention hilarious! All three cottages are warm, cheerful and charming and located below the main lodge/bar/hotel on the shores of pristine Clear Lake. Swimming and fishing is the best you could ask for on this immaculate, private-owned gem. In addition to the cottage rentals they have 6 hotel rooms. Each room is uniquely decorated in "northwoods" style (loons, white-tail deer, fish). If you are a CLEAN-FREAK this is the place for you! Absolutely spotless. At the time of my last visit in 2007, 5 of the 6 units were still 2-room "suites" with kitchenette's. Perfect for small families or couples (sigh...wonderful memories). Their Beachcomber Lounge is a local favorite. It entertains both pool and dart tournaments and offers some of the best home-cooked food in the area. Steve makes and proudly serves the best cheese-cake EVER! Come for the "local flavor", joke-of-the-day, fish tales and just downright good fun. Top-notch accommodations, great food and drink and fun hosts. Could anyone ask for more?
Very good cheesecake! Friendly staff.
Love the friendliness of this place and the food is good. I would recommend going there to anyone.

If you've never tried a pasty then you should and you should try one here. Honestly, if you can't find one you like then there's something wrong with you. ;-) Buy them cooked and ready to eat. Eat them there or take them home. Or buy them frozen and bake them yourself. Light crusts packed with deliciousness! Five stars all the way!
This place was so delicious! I just wish that all of the options were available all the time. Can't go wrong with any pasty though!
If you've never had a pasty, you are missing out. They are REALLY good. I was a pasty virgin until we stopped here last year. We had the breakfast pasty, which was AMAZING! I usually don't like my breakfast foods all mixed up, but this was great! So you can eat there, or take it to go, or even buy them frozen to take home and bake. So after our fantastic breakfast we took a few different types of pastys home (they have so many different flavors, but the original is the best). They tasted just as good baked in my oven. Sadly, I am on a very strict food diet now, and haven't been able to return. But when I have a splurge day I will definitely be going back to Joe's Pasty Shop.

Three Coins Restaurant

Holiday Acres Resort,4060 S Shore Dr
Rhinelander, 54501
Reviews:
It's a large restaurant with fairly nice atmosphere and somehow they manage to put out consistently good food that I would consider one of the only "fine dining" restaurants in the Northwoods. The cheese curd appetizer appears to be made fresh in-house rather than a lot of places that get frozen, over-breaded curds and just drop them into the fryer. The local Grilled Elk is excellent with a really good risotto on the side and nice sauces. The fried walleye was good but definitely not great, however on multiple visits we've enjoyed the food and had very friendly service. Even the wine list is okay (which is about as good as it gets in the Northwoods) and the cocktails are very well made. If you're in the area, it's worth a visit to the Three Coins Restaurant - strange name but great food and not exorbitantly priced.
We enjoyed dinner at Three Coins on a Saturday night. The decor is cozy and lodgelike, great for a night when snow flurries were falling, as they were when we were there. I tried my first Brandy Alexander - delish! I ordered the Pork Athena and it was great, however the smoked beef loin my husband ordered attracted more of my attention with its wonderful bleu cheesiness and hearty smoke flavor obtained from the chef's smoker out back. We ended up swapping meals part way through and I finished his. Even my house salad with zesty vinaigrette and the dill bread and oatmeal bread were great. We also visited the restaurant the next morning for breakfast. Looks like we were the only guests up so early looking for food, so we dined alone in the very quiet dining room. The menu options were simple: French toast, eggs, pancakes and the like, and our meals were fine.
We have a cottage in the area and are frequent customers. They put on an amazing brunch and Friday night fish buffet. I'm a big fan of their prime rib on Saturdays. The service is consistently good. Dining with small children has never been a problem. I will say that my wife and I were disappointed to find different prices on the website, than when we dined at 3-Coins. The food and service has always been good, and the last time we dined there, the chef went around to tables and asked how the food was. He was very informative and courteous. This is by far our favorite "nice" restaurant to dine at in Rhinelander.

Excellent service, great prices, good tap beer selection, and some really great food! Very kid friendly and didn't have to wait long for our food.
Great burger. If you're looking for a Wisconsin style pub with great food this is the place.

Just because there aren't many current reviews of Shady Sues doesn't mean it's changed or gotten bad. Shady Sues is still the BEST! We dine here often and love everything about the experience!
Great food, great service. It's on the small side for both the restaurant and menu size. However, the food is worth it, particularly the ribs.
Just took our 4 kids to this little gem of a place we happened upon. The food was homemade and cooked to order. Homemade rye bread was delicious too. Hot wings were hand breaded and our 17 year old loved them. We had fish and it was great too. Highly recommended! Staff was friendly and attentive.

The Crimson Cafe

The Crimson Cafe was like an oasis in a desert of fast food joints, pizza places and bars. The menu had all delicious options, but you could just order a plain old grilled cheese too. Many vegetarian options which made us happy! The inside of the Cafe was super cute and the little store attached was nice to peruse through as you waited for your food. So grateful to have yelp and other people's reviews. Without them, we would have never found this local haunt.
I have been to the Crimson Cafe a couple times now, and it has been a good option for when I travel over to Rhinelander for shopping. There aren't very many cool places in town to eat, and this one certainly fills the bill for cool! I am very happy that there are some vegetarian options, I have had the veggie panini and today I had the hummus and red pepper wrap. It is a pretty small menu, but the food they serve is super fresh and tasty. I had the iced mocha, and it was perfectly garnished with whip and chocolate drizzle! We sat outside in their little courtyard in the back and it was a delightful experience. The inside is a series of small rooms where you will find the gift shop and the indoor restaurant seating. I had an excellent meal and very good service. I very much enjoyed the Crimson Cafe again!
I have driven by so many times; while in town today with my sis and bro in law, we stopped for lunch. Really cool house with a decent amount of indoor seating; also had maybe 5-6 outdoor tables in the back. My sis had the tuna pannini and my BIL and I had the chicken salad croissant. That chicken salad was some of the best I have ever had; lots of grapes, mandarin oranges and pineapple in it with a lovely lemon poppyseed dressing. $8 for a sandwich with chips not too hard on the budget. Iced tea had a raspberry flavor to it; would have liked to have informed of this before ordering. Parking also very minimal; we parked on one of the side streets and it was fine. Also has a small gift area. Give it a try!

Came here in the recommendation of a complete stranger. When we are in the area we will have to stop back again. The Pan Fried Fishfry was great. Homemade fries and the fried bread top off the meal.
This bar is awesome. My extended family and I stopped in after a wonderful cross country ski at Nose Lake. Fabulous bloody mary's, definitely made with love, were enjoyed by all. We made several new friends. Will definitely be back for the Friday Night Fish Fry soon!
Complete surprise! Food was excellent, nice atmosphere and friendly service. We will be repeat customers for sure!

Reviews:
We just moved to Rhinelander and have been there twice now, good wait staff, good food for the money, and PIE WOW PIE!!!!!!
OMG...what a horrid experience! Ate there a few days ago. Food was just so-so as usual. The vegetable of the day is always unappetizing giant hunks of overgrown soggy, woody carrots. The smelt was so small that I could not distinguish the pieces from the French fries. They used to have nice sized smelt. I think they are cutting them into thin strips now to make them look like more. The real kicker came when they served the bread. I buttered and ate a piece before discovering that the crust on the other pieces were BLUE....moldy! I ate moldy bread! How disgusting. No more Friendship House for me. We now have the Riverview, Tula's, and the Sportsman at the Claridge...along with the Chinese and Mexican places.
I've been here many times. The best meal when you are hungover haha. Friendship house is a great well priced meal. I've only had breakfast here and never had a bad experience. I have heard a few sketchy things about some of the wait staff from different reliable sources though.
