Best deli sandwiches. This place is a deli/mini grocery store. Brown Cow Cafe nearby is better for breakfast and more of a coffee shop ambiance. The people making your sandwiches are super awesome. Not really a place to eat in but they have lots of outside seating. They have benches outside next to a bunch of trees. I eat here every time I am in town.
Perfect quick stop on way through town. Service was friendly and fast. We sat outside to stretch our legs and take in fresh air. We had sandwiches and clam chowder. All were pretty good. No complaints at all just not out of this world delicious.
Solid stop on the way home from Mt Snow that also gives you an opportunity to drive through this cool little town. Definitely an earthy type deli with a great beer and wine selection as well as some goods I've never set eyes on (i.e. a Denver based chocolate company, Hammond's). They are proud Boar's Head purveyors, but I ended up with curry chicken salad in a wrap topped with chevre and sprouts. For the $8-$9 it was huge and weighed what seemed to be close to 10lbs. Other sandwiches were the basics with great twists like an avocado spread and I want to say garlic aioli. The curry chicken salad itself was delicious. A nice touch of curry, a little creamy and the portion size was huge. The thick layer of chevre was overkill (I'd probably just opt for chicken salad in a container next time). I appreciate they didn't cheap out on cheese, but I mean there was a lot and I'm not quite sure it complimented the curry flavor. A clean bathroom for customers, plenty of seating outside, with a few tables in making it a perfect spot for lunch in warm or cold months. A successful roadside stop if you ask me!

I'd heard about this place two times before popping in for the first time. Recently moved back to town and am a writer so sometimes I need a place to write that isn't my house. This is usually when I have a less than exciting project going on... something that means laundry is more exciting, haha. Or organizing my closet. Or taking a nap. I drove over on Friday and was surprised at how large it is, and also just the overwhelming awesomeness. Definitely not the type of place Bennington has a lot of. With everything cool here going out of business it's nice that there is a place worth spending a few hours. Walking in there is a large counter area where two baristas (is that still the preferred term? I kind of hate it) were quickly serving up an assortment of baked goods, hot items and delicious looking coffees. I never heard any reticence to help with all the many gluten/dairy/soy requests which was cool and surprising considering how many there were. I mean, I wasn't working and I was starting to get annoyed. With a few tables outdoors and the decent amount in here I thought that was it. But nope, if you're facing the counter there is a whole large room off to the left. Here there are tables of various sizes plus an area with two leather chairs, a low coffee table and a couch. I staked my claim on one of the leather chairs and no one seemed to mind. At some point I was joined by a guy on the couch. Brown Cow has a varied crowd and also seems to morph throughout the day. In the later morning, when I arrived, it was pretty quiet with people reading the paper, me working, and a few small groups enjoying coffee and conversation. Around lunchtime it was BOOMING with what appeared to be a LOT of students (my guess is SVC) meeting up and grabbing a bite and a drink. It got loud (in a good way), before clearing out and quieting down. I've been looking for a place where I can sit and write in a clean space with good drinks and good music (the music is KILLER) and I think I've found it. Oh, and they have alcohol, to boot!
This place is a little hidden, but worth the find! My husband and I split an everything bagel and brown cow breakfast sandwich. We had a cranberry and pineapple mimosa. He had a coffee and I had a raspberry truffle mocha. We can't complain about anything, it's all wonderful. Don't miss out on this place when you are in town!
Really good wraps, Mediterranean is my favorite. Also have great coffee, service and really nice environment!

I've only lived in Bennington for a month now but it is easy to see that the South Street is a center for the local art community. It's also a hangout for many of the college students in the area. All the food and pastries I've had have been delicious and their Italian sodas are great. The staff are wonderfully friendly. One of the staff remembered me even though I only came in once before. There are open jam sessions on Fridays nights and it's great to see the ever changing art on the walls. Definitely check this out if you're in Bennington for the day.
Small local cafe. Love the pastries, pie by the slice, quiche. Cozy atmosphere. Couches or tables to sit at. Wi-fi available. Local newspapers and games to entertain. During spring & summer small outdoor tables.
Great pastries, healthy lunch options, and delicious drinks. Nice place to read or bring your laptop. Lots of seating options: couches, tables, and small outdoor tables. Features works by local artists (rotates monthly, I think).

It's been a while since I've been here. Despite the restaurant's shortcomings it was still a haven of decent food in the barren culinary desert of Bennington VT. Decor and service were always fine and nice. The salads and bread were fresh and fluffy. My only problem was that the pasta dishes are always either over-seasoned in some way or they only hit one flavor note/are a big pile of one thing taste/texture. a couple of times the sauce was just too salty or too thick/over-saturated with cream to eat. If I still lived here I would probably come back sometimes but I would order with a bit of caution or maybe have sauces on the side.
What a pleasant surprise! My wife and I were passing through Bennington and on a whim stopped at Allegro. The fare is simple and beautifully prepared with fresh ingredients. The pasta we perfectly cooked. It was kind of late but the wait staff was attentive and friendly. They didn't try to hurry us out. Good simple Italian food, well prepared, pleasant quiet surroundings, a good moderately priced wine menu and friendly staff. We would happily return.
Came here with a party of 10 including two children for a pre-marathon pasta dinner. They accommodated every request making this meal absolutely perfect for everyone. They offered gluten free pasta, could prepare sauces without adding the hot kick, one member of our party needed very plain pasta to suit a sensitive stomach and all was no problem. Everyone loved their meal. Service was great. Lovely atmosphere. Def recommend.

Just the BEST Dinner ! Go for the classics. You will not be thus appointed. Even better then the food is the service. Wait staff always always great you with a happy warm smile. Just a joy to be here. We always stop by when in the area
Perfect. Just what you expect and want a diner to be and then better. There were so many things to choose from and what I got was raspberry pancakes with the raspberry's cooked in. So good! Traveling through towns and only staying a small while you don't really expect to do the right things. All the places we went to in Bennington were just great. This diner was excellent. There were so many choices and everything was inexpensive and delicious. We didn't wait long at all for a booth which was suprising since the place was so small. Our waitress was super friendly and she was on it with the coffee. And then they had those old jukebox things at all the booths and to my surprise they actually worked. It was just a great way to start the day and I'd definitely go back if I was in the area.
Just a swell little unassuming diner in small town New England. We were there coincidentally on the last day of the jukebox with the music selectors at each booth! We were thus treated to free music as the entire collection was played one last time :) I had corned beef hash with a pair of over easy eggs strewn across the bed of hash, yum! My companions thoroughly enjoyed the blueberry pancakes & the local syrup ... The waitress was a perfect peach of a gal telling the girls that a single stack of three pancakes & one serving of syrup would do for two ;-) Simple fare for a fair price!

Daniel the owner provides a warm welcome. Our room was clean and comfortable with a small fireplace. Breakfast was delicious and for the price we would definitely return to the Alexandra Inn. We needed somewhere to stay at the last minute and this place was fantastic. We will be recommending this place to others.
Yes, I am the Dutchess of a tiny Vermont B&B. That was on purpose. I had my buddy remind me every night we came home to our adorable double twin beds which were the most comfortable I've ever slept on. I LOVE bed and breakfasts. My honeymoon options would be 1) tahiti and 2) a bed and breakfast tour of new england. i just love them that much! booking was a snap, as all things are online. they were courteous and very quick with fixing my idiotic mistake of booking the wrong nights (yup, not the brightest bulb). they were graciously accommodating when we said we were going to arrive late that night--left the key out for us. the next day, they gave us a belated tour of our room with many unnecessary apologies--mostly we were too dumb to figure out the pilot light was NOT the same thing as an actual fire in a fireplace. the food--i think this is a b&b that was taken over by new owners who knew a lot about cooking and maybe a little less about b&b-ing. the food was phenomenal. danny, the chef, is in love with nyc cuisine and strives to eat there a few times a year and comes back and uses those new things he learned in his breakfasts every morning. top notch stuff, his cooking. really gourmet and innovative. his female partner was a little less helpful. also not the brightest bulb. forgot to ask for the room key back when we were checking out, couldn't figure out how to turn on the computer, didn't have really great pointers about where to go to check out the foilage (which was the only reason we were in vermont in the first place). danny more than made up for all of this, but just so you know, if you have any local questions to ask, ask him, not her. all in all, i would stay here again. it's right on the corner of three different states so you can go chase foliage to your hearts content!
This place was amazing. The rooms are big with king-sized beds, fire places, and couches. There are two buildlings. The building in which we stayed is more modern-hotel-like (which I prefer) instead of classic B&B country decor. The furniture, linens, etc. were brand new and the beds were wildly comfortable. We had a bath with jacuzzi jets that was designed for one person. Other rooms had large 2-person jacuzzis. But, the accommodations are not the reason to stay here. The owner, Daniel, and his wife are delightful, wonderful people. They won't bother you if you want a private meal, but they will chat if you want to hear about the Inn or the area, etc. They are great. Also, last but most certainly not least, the food at the Inn is exquisite. Daniel learned to cook as an apprentice, but he is largely self-taught. Well, he puts culinary-schooled chefs to shame. I have dined in the best restaurants and Daniel's food was equal in quality and, perhaps, more creative. The food was a magnificent surprise. These hard-working owners made our weekend getaway a memorable trip. I recommend Alexandra B&B wholeheartedly!

I travel a lot, this is a wonderful B&B. My room was very spacious, hard wood floors, high ceilings, beautiful windows and a fireplace. The location is excellent, close to everything yet set away from it all. If you want a calm, cozy, relaxing place to stay this would be the place. The staff was extremely courteous, and helpful. They want to do everything to make your stay pleasurable. It is "country luxury" as I would put it. A delightful place to stay, everything that you probably would want in a Bed & Breakfast.
What a wonderful stay we had! Not only is the home beautiful but the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect for a romantic weekend.
A great experience. Our room was lovely and the sheets were wonderful. Chatted with the Innkeeper at their bar in the living room, she was very nice. Breakfast was delicious, the only thing missing was chatting with other guests. Overall a great time!

I was here for lunch on a Sunday. I had the prime rib which was good though nothing spectacular, though I suppose that is what one should expect when ordering prime rib. The salad bar was great, and reminded my, with fondness, of the Ponderosa salad bar as a child. Decent beer selection. I think I found the place a little pricey, for what it was, otherwise I might have been more inclined to 4 stars.
My steak was pritty good, I got mine med. well and I wish it was a little jucier. But your meal includes the salid bar. But I had great service. Enjoyed it with tge family.
Well we were almost scared off from a prior review but I knew from researching that they had outdoor seating and it was a perfect evening. We arrived about 7:45 and were lucky enough to snag a table on the deck with a lovely view of sunset. Our most excellent waitress, Kathie, was prompt, courteous and had excellent suggestions. My wife had the soup & salad offering, we split the crab cake appetizer and I had the stuffed trout (a special offering that night). Our food was served in precise order, service was attentive and not overbearing. The food was very good and we very much enjoyed our first trip to the Publyk House.

Ramunto’s Pizza

Reviews:
My wife and I were in the midst of a long drive home from a family trip with our two girls, aged 8 and 10. We wanted pizza, had been in the car 3 1/2 hours, and Bennington was the best place to stop on the way to find it, right on the main drag downtown. We also wanted t keep our spending down, if possible. We found Ramunto's on the web, and it was awesome. Thin-crust NY-style pizza, self-serve fountain drinks, and good-sized salads and calzones. They have a very good lunch special: 7 days a week, you get two cheese slices and a free refill fountain soda for $3.50. M-F, same deal, except you can two specialty slices, and it is $5. The two slices will be large - almost certainly enough for most adults, and definitely enough for any kid. We ordered a large Greek salad, as well, and at $6.50, we felt it was a very good value. My wife and I were able to take about 1/3 each of it, and my kids split the other third, and we were satisfied with our portions as a pre-pizza salad. All of it was very tasty. There is free on-street parking, right on Main Street (Rt. 9) downtown. The ambiance is very casual. About half of the floor space is for a bar, with two big TVs that had football games on. Although we didn't have any beer on this visit, I was impressed by the variety of beers on tap, and would definitely come back for a dinner if I was in the area sometime. You can eat at the bar. The other half of the customer area is a number of finished picnic tables, plus several traditional four-seat square tables. There are two more big TVs, which also had football on. It is not a sports bar, per se, but the ambiance, posters, etc., are very sports-centric. The bar was about full, with eight or 10 people clearly taking their time, watching football, and socializing. Definitely local residents. The dining room had several families and small groups of teenagers , none of them terribly interested in the football games. The service was very good. The pizza came out very quickly, fresh from the oven, and the young woman who took our order was very friendly. The bill for four lunch specials and a large Greek salad was $22 - you can't beat that. My only complaint is that the football games were extremely loud. It is not a very big place, but the volume was VERY high, to the point where my wife and kids were getting annoyed. I am a huge football fan, and even I was a little annoyed by the level of volume. A very small thing, though, for an excellent restaurant - highly recommended for families, couples, or an individual looking to have a relaxing, casual meal in a friendly, local environment. We will return.
Great pizza place for a small town that doesn't have much going on. Order by slice or get a whole pizza. They also have a nice little bar inside too. We got a couple slices (pepperoni and white sun dried tomato with spinach and feta). Both were very good. Pretty New Yorky which surprised us. We also ordered the wings which were decent as well and the garlic knots which were delicious. Service is quick and prices are reasonable. Solid place.
Decent pizza place in a sleepy town. Ordered the spinach dip appetizer, half salad, and large meat-lovers pizza. The cashier warned us the spinach would take a while, but we were in no rush. The spinach dip was GIGANTIC - could have been a meal. The pizza was adequate - not bad, not amazing. Good beer selection and bar area. Main complaint is the lack of table service - makes ordering confusing. Order your food up front, open a tab so you can order beer at the bar, you're on your own as far as refills, napkins, silverware, etc. Go back to the cashier when you're ready to leave... etc. Just a lot of work for the customer.
