Any place that let's me get away with a third free sample is going to get my money! I am always greeted by friendly staff. I've tried it all and love the place! It's bright and cheerful and a nice place to go on a gloomy day.

What is the big deal? The location and building make this a three-star review. Here we go. YOLO...Clever name all acronymy, yes. Affordable yogurt, no way. I would have laid a golden goose egg if I would have had to pay full price for my yogurt. Paying by the ounce is a trap. Most humans have no clue on how to scale on their own. The yogurt itself was not as creamy as TCBY (Better Acronym). I hate to show corporate favoritism, but YOLO or any other shop modeled like this is a huge bait-and-switch with the wallet taking the hit.

Really friendly service, the best salted caramel pretzel low fat frozen yogurt ever. I recommend hot fudge. Located in a great part of town full of things to do and restaurants...very eclectic. Plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor.

12 different yogurt flavors and also 12 homemade gelato flavors. A lot of toppings for your yogurt. Great place to just hang out and have a cup.

Perfect to walk over after dinner at any place in Overton square for dessert with a variety of frozen yogurt, gelato, and toppings. Fast and friendly service at the counter and patio seating in the nice weather.

While you cannot beat the deliciousness of the California tart, this place is filthy. Nasty dirty filthy. The baked goods do not taste fresh. The yogurt is great, however. If you can dash in, grab your yogurt, run out and do not touch anything, you will be just fine.

I never really got into the serve-your-own yogurt thing. I'm sure it's great if you're into it, but my adolescence working in an ice cream and yogurt shop has all but ruined frozen yogurt for me. I could tell you tales that would give you pause, too, but that's not what this is about. I agree with all of the reviewers who say to avoid the baked goods. I promise you, if you're asking yourself, "Ginger-thyme cookie, is that so weird it could be good?" the answer is no. I go to Yolo for the gelato. Generally, I find the fruit flavors (strawberry, grapefruit, and others) to be a bit medicinal, which I don't really understand. But I've liked all of the other flavors I've tried (mascarpone, chocolate, nutella, salted caramel, etc.) This is not the most amazing gelato I've ever had, but it gets the job done. Add easy parking in Cooper Young and I'm sold!

i love frozen yogurt and you can't go wrong with a place that has tons of flavours to choose from. They used to have mochi all the time as a topping, but for some reason as of late they haven't had it. thats the only reason why i knocked 1 star, is because i went for 1.5 of eating their mochi but then they got rid of it. :( They do have pop pearls (if you haven't had it before, u should try it some time! you can "pop" them in your mouth and a surprise comes out hahaha). They have fruit and your standard toppings for frozen yogurt. The typical flavours: dark chocolate, cookies n cream, birthday cake, gluten free stuff (like strawberry, vanilla), orange, white chocolate, etc. staff is friendly, and the place is always clean, spacious, with plenty of lighting. Theres a cute bench outside and table outside for those of you that like to enjoy the summer heat and mosquitos (not me). Great place for midtown! i'm glad theres a yolo open in overton square. PERFECT for your after dinner dessert, especially since its not expensive either.

Tasty yogurt, but watch the weight because it adds up fast! I stay away from the toppings and stick to the yogurt goodness. I think the best thing about this place is self-serve samples. I pretty much tried them all before settling on a combo of orange, pink lemonade, a touch of strawberry, and "California tart." The tart was the surprise favorite - like plain Greek yogurt. It added just the right complement to the fruit flavors. My date and I both had somewhat full cups (they just have one size cup for serving), but not overflowing, and it was about $14. If you bring kids, you might want to watch how much they get because it could get to be an expensive trip!

Absolutely delicious! Frozen yogurt here is one of my favorite weeknight treats. Try the homemade cookie dough on your yogurt--so tasty!

Good yogurt (sometimes), but horrible service (always). The guy checking us out continued to clean although he had a line of customers waiting to check-out. When I asked him to ring us up, he looked hatefully at me and walked around the corner (taking at least two minutes to return). He barely spoke to me or the customers in front-who said service was normally bad for them! I would recommend going to sweet noshings down the road-way better quality, friendlier atmosphere, and more delicious!

It says open until 11 p.m. on their yelp listing but they were already closed when I stopped by. No hours posted on their door either.

Picture it: After a Great Run/Power-walk on the River, you find yourself heading to this cool little spot for love from the various yogurt or gelato selections. When you hit the front door the cupcakes, natural cakes and much more take your mind over. That's just what transpired upon my first time here. I've been back again and again. Makes the workout worth it. Great Spot!

Oh my goodness!!! Went and they had so many gelato AND frozen yogurt flavor AND cupcakes it was so hard to decide on dessert. I ended up being a bit healthier and got the Valencia orange sorbet and the original tart, I think they call it Californian tart. I had to have a second serving of Valencia orange!!! My husband had the Mascarpone gelato and we both loved it! My 3 year old had chocolate with every candy topping you can imagine. The only thing was that there was only one person at the front that Saturday evening, and of course everyone wants to try all the gelato flavors before they buy, so by the time we paid, our yogurt was melting. That's the only issue.

Main reason for going - the name, Yolo. You only live once, I thought, so why the hell not? Cupcakes, yogurt, and Italian gelato, yes please! I can't comment on the "yo" part - yogurt, but I can say their Italian gelato was pretty good. I tried their Dinschel's cashew flavor and was impressed. The cashew flavor wasn't too overwhelming and there was a hint of coconut. A small cup costed me $3.25. For only a dollar more a much larger medium cup could have been had, but I felt like that was overkill. My friend's opted for a couple of cupcakes. The cake of the chocolate chip cupcake was tough and a bit stale. Albeit, it was loaded with chocolate chips. Had the cupcake been fresher, I think it would have been great. The frosting was rich but not too heavy and sweet like other places - think opposite of Gigi's. Overall, there isn't anything too unique about this place besides the clever name and variety.

This is my favorite place to get frozen yogurt in Memphis. There is plenty of seating inside and out. You are not smushed by how close the seats are. It's hard to to fill your bowl up with all the flavors they offer. I always seem to put too many toppings in my bowl. The yogurt they offer all have rich flavors. Overall I'll come back over and over again.

I may be last person in Memphis to visit YoLo. I honestly don't know how I have never been here before. It is an outstanding frozen yogurt spot - allowing customers to not only assemble their yogurt mixes themselves, but also offering a WIDE assortment of self-serve toppings. I was very impressed with the variety and selection of this location. This location is however more than just a fro-yo place. They also offer gelato, premade baked items and tasty treats from Bed Rock eats. I will happily visit YoLo again!

Stopped in there last night for a quick gelato fix. Had a small - half salted caramel and half coffee: both were very good, strong flavors. (They also happen to be the same brown/tan color, so that was interesting...kind of a surprise "palette challenge"). It was busy and just before 11pm (when they close). They locked the door at 11 and the staff looked pretty exhausted. They were still friendly, so I give them lots of credit - they didn't kick out us stragglers. By that time the place looked like it needed to be hosed down; it's probably really hard to keep up on sloppy patrons. Next time I'll try the fro yo at yo lo. (say that 5 times fast).

  • Ash M.

So I hear this is like the best place to get froyo in Memphis....? What a sad state of affairs for froyo lovers in Memphis then. I came here on a Thurs evening with a bunch of friends after we decided to ditch the Overton Block Party. I don't know if I was more disappointed in the fact that half the froyo flavors were out, there were no boba toppings, or that there were no fruit toppings available... At least you could get free samples of the 3 flavors that were still available -___-;; Either way, if this is the best froyo in town, I don't know what to say...

  • Cherie C.

Took my sister to Yolo while she was in town. We both tried the salted caramel frozen yogurt and we both loved it! It tasted like fall. Great overall experience.

  • Denise P.

It's frozen yogurt. What can I say, people? I wasn't blown away by my experience but I didn't expect to be, so I wasn't disappointed. The yogurt was fine and I can see how locals could easily be lured in during a hot, Memphis day for some childhood nostalgia in the form of a heaping bowl of sugary, creamy goodness. However, I was not impressed with my froyo. Is there a more hated word? I did appreciate the clean and friendly environment. Yes, we like clean and friendly around these parts... I heard that the gelato is a fan favorite and that I should have gone for it. Maybe next time. Maybe?

I used to like this place back in the day when employees were trained on how to act in front of customers. Please don't go out of your way to help me.. I'm only paying your salary. Not anymore!!

  • Kyla W.

I tried this place when I first moved here and liked it but then kind of forgot about it, fast forward almost 3 years and we're driving down Cooper where my sister, who was visiting out of town, screams YOGURT!!! Oh yeah, this place exists! How did I forget about this place?! I think between the 5 of us we tried all of their current flavors without any complaints from anyone. And oh man the toppings, everything imaginable, from cereal to candy, gummies to chocolate chip cookie dough and brownies! They have a great fruit topping bar too. I haven't tried any of their baked goods, I heard they weren't as comparable to other cupcake shops in town, but I also think we're pretty spoiled in Memphis when it comes to cupcakes! I can't wait to try their gelato!

  • Daniel M.

This place has started to really take off and stay busy, much like everything in the Overton Square. I went on a typical Tuesday night once and it was packed out. But even as busy as it was, we had minimal wait in line and found a table no problem. YoLo's is always clean and always tasty, no matter what flavor selections they may have at the time. You just can't beat good frozen yogurt. Also, compared to other froyo joints in Memphis, YoLo (in this reviewer's opinion) has the better toppings and fresh fruit. And don't be afraid to ask for a sample of gelato before you buy.

    (4)
  • Kelly H.

The frozen yogurt here is sweetened creamy and there are an abundance of toppings. I just thin it is too expensive for frozen yogurt.

    (3)
  • Karen L.

You know, I keep going here, and I really don't know why. The yogurt is fine -- there's not much to it by itself, so it's really all about the toppings, and at $0.52/ounce, it sure adds up! I somehow always manage to spend about five bucks and end up with a little more than I really wanted, but without really being satisfied. It's serve yourself, but the yogurt and topping areas are always clean, which I appreciate. The cashiers are a mixed bag, but when I stepped up to the counter and was ignored by a girl chattering away to her friend, she immediately apologized when she turned around and saw me, which is not typical for Midtown, sad to say. But honestly, I just can't get that excited about YoLo anymore. It's overpriced frozen yogurt, and you can get that practically anywhere these days.

The hours are great. The selection is great. The toppings are amazing. I love the rewards program I get three dollars off very often so that's a great perk

i really wish i could give this place 5 stars because of my love for frozen yogurt. But, I must be honest. When i first walked in, i was hit with a mildew smell. I noticed the back room was open to the storage. I couldn't pinpoint the smell because it was all in the air. I asked the guy at the front counter where the cups were and he pointed to the back. Going down the isle of yogurt, I saw melted yogurt on the walls and floor. I wanted to brush that off because it could have been a busy day and they hadn't gotten around to cleaning up but no one was in there. The guy at the counter was PLAYING ON HIS PHONE!!! I put down the cup and went to the front thinking "maybe i'll try a cupcake" once i made it to the front i saw brown moldy looking goo around the floors. At that point i was just done.

Gelato Pretty Flavorless. Cupcake Dry. YoLo might have good frozen yogurt. I don't know. But, we instead tried their gelato and cupcake. They both looked good, but that's where it ended. The gelato was chocolate, with the chocolate from Dinstuhl's. There was little chocolate flavor, and there wasn't much sweetness. Plus, it was quite expensive. The cupcake was chocolate with peanut butter icing. The cake was dry, as are many you get at bakeries. The icing was fine, but certainly not good enough to make up for the cupcake. I don't know why it is so hard to make a good cupcake. I make a Betty Crocker or whatever and it turns out just fine. It seems to be a difficult task for almost any bakery, not just in Memphis, but anywhere. Muddy's here is the only place I have found that is worth the calories. And, wouldn't you know, they are the least expensive.

If you have ever been to a self serve frozen yogurt place, then you know that heaps of toppings will cost you. But, with that in mind and a little self restraint, I had a delicious and affordable experience. Definitely worth stopping by on a hot day. I have not tried the baked goods or gelato but the frozen yogurt was great - and lots of yummy choices for toppings available including nerds, fruit, candy bars, pretzels, lucky charms, sugar coated pecans to name but a few :)

YoLo is great. They have great hours in the summer (open until midnight, I think, or at least 11). You can control how much you get, which is nice for those watching the wallet or the waistline. My favorite is nonfat vanilla froyo with strawberries, a little bit of chocolate chips, and some of those cheesecake squares. They try to have local fruit where available. It's probably more expensive than your average ice cream shop but well worth it for the easy customization.

We met some friends down at this Yolo. Normally we don't go in to Memphis just for yogurt. They had lots of selections in both yogurt and gelato. They even had some ice pops and cupcakes so there is something for everyone. There is a large topping selection. They had these little things that are almost like fruit caviar. They pop in your mouth with fruit juice. My toddler loved those. I do with they had more flavors that appealed to me. I'll have to try some of their gelato next time. Also there is a changing pad in the women's room but not the men's room. Since they're both 1 seaters my husband just went in to the women's room to change our son.

Love it. The yogurt, gelato, and toppings are all delicious. Only reason I knock of a star is because the countertops and tabletops frequently get pretty sticky/messy and the trashcans can be overflowing. It comes with being a busy and popular place I guess, but it would still be nice if it was cleaner.

One day after having lunch at Carmela's Caffe, I decided to walk a few doors down in the Erin Way Shopping Center to YoLo Frozen Yogurt, a place that many of my friends have raved about for the past few months. Not familiar with the place, I didn't know what to expect. The place is very spacious, with the dining area about 20 ft. x 30 ft. (of course, this is a VERY rough guess). I believe the reason that there is so much space is because the yogurt and toppings "line" is self-serve, with the yogurt being kept in dispensers that the customer uses to pour into the paper bowls provided. It was a little confusing at first, for I didn't notice the dispensers and walked past them, however after getting some Animal Crackers from the toppings counter, I saw other customers getting yogurt so I went back and did the same. After looking over my choices, I decided to get the Cookies 'n Cream in order to stay within the "dessert" theme, and got an entire bowl of it (because YoLo charges its yogurt and toppings by the pound, different yogurt flavors can be mixed together, for those who want to experiment like I did later). After looking over the various candies, cereals, cookies and fruits displayed on the toppings counter, I topped my yogurt off with the aforementioned Animal Crackers, something simply called "yogurt topping" which are little white sugar candy beads, a strawberry and a blackberry. With a name like "Cookies 'n Cream", the yogurt's taste lived up to it's name, for it tasted like a combination of cookie dough and whipped cream. Along with the toppings (sans blackberry), the combined taste was wonderful and it really hit the spot, especially after eating a huge panini with potato chips and a beer. After my initial experience at YoLo's East Memphis location, I decided to visit their Midtown location to see if the great experience I had was consistent. Upon visiting YoLo's Midtown location, at Cooper St. and Madison Ave., I noticed the place has a similar vibe as its East Memphis counterpart, although it is somewhat smaller. It appeared that the Midtown location has the same yogurt flavors as the one I visited earlier, although some of them weren't available when I tried to dispense them. I eventually went Neapolitan, for I got a combination of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, plus I added another flavor, California Tart. For my toppings, I chose "sprinkles" (I guess that is what they are called) and ice cream cone chips, which seemed to work well with my yogurt blend. In all, the yogurt and toppings tasted great, and I will definitely try again. This location also serves gelato and has a bakery (Lady Bugg Bakery), so for those who desire other dessert options, YoLo might have it covered. With the Midtown location situated next to Lenny's, the two eateries could be a great one-two punch for anyone looking for a complete dining experience. If you're hungering for Italian, Bari Ristorante is also close by (for East Memphis diners, juxtapose Carmela's/Ciao Bella for Bari). After experiencing both locations, my assessment of YoLo is positive, for the yogurts I had were delicious and a nice alternative to traditional ice cream (will eventually travel to the Collierville location, but for now I will assume that it is the same as the other two locations). With the various flavors and toppings (made from locally produced ingredients), most will surely find something they like and will likely be satisfied with it. I hope that YoLo has continued success, and I intend to make many visits there in the future.

I'm just glad there is a frozen yogurt with topping place in midtown. For existing it gets an extra star. Get some yogurt, get some toppings, have fun. Pass on the baked goods, but try the gelato. Also good.

I must say I do love my frozen treats!!...and I was lured in by the prospect of GELATO!!! Let me explain. I went to a girlfriends wedding in Italy several years ago and fell in LOVE with gelato. It is so smooth and creamy and a good gelato kicks ice-cream's but every day and twice on sundays. My travel blog from the week I was in Italy went something like this Day one saw the coleseium, some other ruins and had a gelato. Day two went to the wedding, and found the cutest gelato shop walking back to the hotel...day three woke up and guess what this gelato shop is open for breakfast...score. So to say I became a bit obsessed about the creamy stuff is an understatement. However since my return to the states my quest for gelato that approached the sheer perfection of gelatoness that I had in Italy has been a disappointment at best....UNTIL NOW!!! While my nieces were with me and got the yogurt and every imaginable topping (which was very good as well) the stand out for me was the Gelato. I had the marscapone and the salted carmel....both heavenly. They were smooth had that rich creamy consistency that gelato is supposed to have and were flavored perfectly without being too sweet. My sis got something with basil and another more savory flavor that sounded a bit odd but were wonderful. I am totally hooked. of course I am now training for a half-marathon so I will not be able to stalk this place the way I would like. but definitely give it a try and dont shy away from the slightly odd flavors you and your tastebuds might get a pleasant surprise.

Great setup. Walk in, grab your cup, choose your flavor, pour too much, choose another flavor, pour too much of that too, choose your toppings, put on too many of them, pay, sit, begin eating, 3/4 of the way through regret the gummie bears and extra oreo chunks, finish anyway, leave a little fatter. What's not to love?!? YoLo!

  • Amanda S.

My name is Amanda, and I am addicted to frozen yogurt. Okay, now that we've got THAT out of the way, I must say that Yolo (the midtown location in particular) is my favorite froyo spot. The flavors are consistently good, and there are always one or two dairy-free options (which makes me feel less guilty when I drag lactose-intolerant friends to get yogurt). Many of the toppings are local, from places like Delta Pecan Orchard, Dinstuhl's, Makeda's Butter Cookies, and more that I'm probably forgetting. Also, another thing I love about Yolo is that their sample cups are accessible without asking an employee for them. It's always awkward standing in line for a couple of sample cups (or maybe that's just the little insecure fat girl inside of me). If yogurt with a bunch of toppings isn't your thing, they also have gelato. I have only had the mascarpone flavor, which was delicious. Mascarpone is the type of cheese used to make tiramisu, by the way. :) Plus, they don't have the horrendous purple and green color scheme that Yogurt Mountain does. What more could you ask for? If you like local stuff and yogurt/gelato/yummy treats, visit Yolo.

Finally had the will power to avoid the wall o' fun here and tried the gelato this evening. I opted for a large peanut butter and jelly and large blueberry. I took them both to go so that the case of pastries and desserts wouldn't lure me in. Though, I did spy that they have nutella and banana home made pop tarts for $3. I almost added a couple to my order, but thought better of it and kept on going. In fact, since the Lady Bugg Bakery parted ways with YoLo it seems as if their baked good selections has upped its game a couple notches. It was late, and the selection was picked over this evening, but I saw quite a few amazing cupcake creations and cakes. Not to mention those nutella and banana pop tarts that I'm still utterly intrigued by. I digress, onto the gelato. Not sure which I am more in love with- the frozen yogurt wall o' fun or the gelato. Delicious. Creamy, thick, fabulous. The peanut butter and jelly was the clear winner of the two. The blueberry was good, but the chunks of blueberry had a crunchy consistency just wasn't jiving with either of us. Regardless, they were both very good. Can't wait to go back and try some different flavors. YoLo has officially proven that you can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Dear lord, I found my new vice and it is YoLo gelato. I tried the berry flavor, which had frozen black and blueberries. The marscapone is to die for. After also trying the chocolate biscotti, I finally settled on the marscapone. YoLo also has some baked treats; muffins, breads and brownies. I couldn't resist trying the raspberry & white chocolate brownie bar. Now, I'll be doing double duty at the gym, but it was completely worth it...maybe next time, I'll have to walk to YoLo to offset the delicious treats that are so irresistible. In my opinion, it's kinda pricey - over $5.00 for a large (not sure of the ounces, but the large is not that huge) - but where else can you get gelato? They also have self serve, soft serve, but I stuck to the gelato!

This place is non-stop busy! People eating inside and out on the patio. I love that its such a great place to meet with friends and enjoy all the flavors. I have to try at least 3 each time I come here. I haven't tried the Gelato just yet. I'm waiting to savor that next time. =)

  • Lisa W.

Gross- first off, you can't get your yogurt in a cone-only the gelato, because they cant weigh it? Second, only one size cup available. Three- no way to have a sample of a flavor without paying. Four- gross liquid comes out of the spigot before the frozen yogurt. And five- prefer creamy frozen yogurt over icy yogurt.

Red velvet frozen yogurt is so delicious. Perhaps even better than the real thing. Try it with chocolate rocks and chocolate sprinkles. Yum!! They also have gelato!

We each got a large cup. I forgot what my better half got, but I got vanilla and chocolate chip yogurt. I put hot fudge, marshmallows, their version of whipped cream, Oreos, and something I am forgetting about and it was marvelous. Best yogurt place In they city. There are certain things I look for in determine the quality of food ingredients. Marshmallows are notorious for loosing their texture if not taken care of properly. Their marshmallows tasted absolutely fresh. It is nice to have a marshmallow have the texture it is suppose to have. Absolutely recommend!

Gelato and self-serve yogurt and toppings, it's as good as it gets! Lots of choices. We actually went twice in one day because we wanted something sweet after each meal!
