Used to love this place for vegan biscuits and gravy. Were drenched in peppery gravy. Not any more. Were dry so asked for more gravy for that and the extremely plain tofu scramble and got charged for it. The service has always been slow yet friendly. Coffee has always been hard to come by. Being newly vegan was really looking forward to coming here again but oh well.

Brunch was awesome! I've eaten here for dinner on a few occasions, and after the new ownership the place is now one of our "regulars". We've never had a bad meal here, and the service has been quite good. The new owners seem very interested in customer feedback, and the new menu items and specials have been fantastic, although I still love the Colossus. We had brunch for the first time and it was delicious. I think they only do brunch on weekends.

I got some food to go and the food was of the same quality as it is when dining in (Angel wraps with tofu and a blackened tilapia po-boy). The po-boy was good and the wraps were good as well but the wraps were...not wrapped up. I called in a pick up order and walked literally around the corner to get it so it's not like it shifted around in the car or anything. The wraps were all over the place in the to-go box. Might I suggest using a little more lettuce to truly form a wrap as in wrapped all the way around, or at least some toothpicks to hold everything together. I'm adding a picture.

I heard about this place from that Food Channel show and I finally got to try it the other day. Ordered the 2 piece dark meat chicken and sautéed kale. Both items are delicious and Ill definitely be back here. The fried chicken is perfectly seasoned and is juicy as it can be. The food was quick and the service was friendly. Just like the many places in downtown, it closes at 2pm and reopens at 4 so just make sure to be there during those times. Reasons for 5 stars: - Great food - Great Service - Awesome price (my meal was $7) - Relaxed atmosphere

Not impressed. This place has tremendous opportunity but the didn't deliver. I ordered the French Toast which was good but it looked like they cut up two pieces of Bunny Bread and made traditional French Toast, nothing special. I had a side of eggs, which we cooked perfectly. My wife on the other hand, said the best part of her meal was the water. She ordered the biscuits and sausage grave. The biscuit, which we found out after the fact we're Vegan. Not a big deal but they were uncooked/raw and tasteless. The sausage gravy would have been better used as wallpaper paste. Just in case you are wondering, we will not be back.

Vegan sausage and gravy, you guys. I even ordered some for Christmas morning and they were really cool and helpful and gave me instructions for reheating. Their tofu egg salad is awesome too, I'm pretty sure all their sides are vegan (unless they say otherwise in the name), and they have some amazing looking veggies. BBQ eggplant, WHAT? I haven't been able to try that yet, but ONE DAY. It's a cool little place in an up-and-coming area...a little out of the way for most of the places I usually am. But it's worth a special trip! If they add some vegan desserts I'll add an extra star!

Not very good. Not horrible. Service was marginal. Food the same. Wouldn't go back. Much better places to eat on Broad Ave and around the city.

Let me preface by saying I ordered wrong. I did. I'll admit it. I ordered the potato pancakes which were basically greasy hashbrowns. Not impressed. However, I ate them all and devoured the bacon with my delicious black coffee. I must have been hungry. I just didn't love the "potato pancakes." However, my boyfriend ordered the kitchen sink breakfast, and it was awesome. It basically was a plate full of everything they had to offer, including delicious cheese grits. I could have just eaten a bowl of those, which I will next time. All this to say, the breakfast was mediocre, but I will be back to try again.

I enjoyed the brunch I had here when the diner opened a while back. They had mimosas which made brunch better. However I went last night for dinner and the food was subpar for sure. They can't handle a crowd so I would go if it looks busy. I imagine the food is better if the restaurant isn't crowded. I hate to give a bad review for a place in broad avenue because I love the area but they need to up the effort on the food.

This place is awesome the food is fantastic. the cabbage is some of the best i have ever had in memphis. their fried chicken is home style like mom or grandma would make. they have old school records playing and also at night they are open with a full bar! great place to just hang out. plus the art in the restaurant is awesome!

Hip diner-like vibe, but the prices (high) and portion sizes (small) don't fit with this vibe.

I was super excited to find a new brunch place. Sometimes the Beauty Shop is hard to get into, and sometimes I don't want to pay $17 for eggs benedict at Alchemy, so I was in search of a new place. I rarely frequent the Broad St. area, and this place got mixed reviews, but it did get a Food Channel shout out and some very excellent reviews so I went....and it was great! Laid back atmosphere that I found charming, not so crowded you couldn't get a table but plenty of folks there. Service was lovely and everyone at our table was thoroughly pleased with their food. Bloodys and mimosas were only $5. However, they make their own bloody mary mix, which I wasn't a fan of - lacked horse radish, salt, pepper...it just kinda tasted like tomato juice. I read in a review they don't have hot sauce - they do now, so no need to tote your own. :-) I'll definitely be back.

The atmosphere here is wonderful. Especially on a Sunday morning. I highly recommend the Chiqualles. The cheese grits are wonderful also. Lots of vegetarian choices.

We visited on a recent Thursday night because I had been wanting to try the place for a long while. The decor is super cool with an imaginative use of old vinyl records as wall art. We had a great appetizers that was a soft cheese topped with fresh hrbs and balsamic drizzle served with rye toasts. I had the Tilapia as my entree, the fish was a large portion but the beurre blanc sauce that was served on top was waaayyy too salty. I would like to try again for Brunch, I have heard that it is really good.

Three Angels stole my heart last year, when I stopped in on a date just for some coffee and lemon icebox pie for dessert (try it!!!!). The place has a more hip, relaxed, cool vibe (love love love the rotating local art); the staff are so sweet, friendly and attentive, and the owners regularly come out to ask how you are and how the food is; and the Sunday brunch takes the crown. You will get great service, great food, and a great taste for local diner fare. All at a very low price. Now, don't get me wrong, I love Brother Juniper's and Bryant's still as an occasional treat, but Three Angels has an amazing brunch menu that is tasty, light, well-balanced, and homey all at the same time. I am a huge fan of the Farmer's Frittata, friends love the Kitchen Sink, and all of their food is prepared and seasoned well. The garlic cheese grits are so good I could take it home in tubs. I love this place because it has all of the elements of a good Southern breakfast/brunch, but doesn't leave you feeling like you have to be rolled out or like you ate your weight in grease, which actually masks the true flavors of food. It's cool that a restaurant focuses on showcasing the flavors of the food itself and doesn't need to rely on pounds of additives or butter or grease or cheese to dress that up. The menu is a farm fresh, healthier and more balanced take on the dishes that we treasure. I regularly go to their brunch on Sunday, and for $11 leave having had coffee, oj or mimosas depending on the kind of day it is haha, the Farmer's Frittata (with bacon, garlic cheese grits and toast). Amazing deal. Check it out!

I landed in Three Angels Diner one sunday for brunch. I never thought I'd end up here. I assumed this was a biker bar of some sort that served cheap beer and soggy sandwiches. I assure you I saw neither of these elements during my visit. Food was not soggy and they actually have a full bar! It's an artsy little place that features local art on the walls and has old record covers used to decorate the bar top. The servers were amazing. They were friendly, patient with my indecisiveness, and very prompt all around. I ordered the kitchen sink which is a combo of a variety of things thrown together (eggs, potatos, sausage, bacon, grits...). Surprisingly it was not overly oily or seasoned. It was cooked just right and tasted wonderful. They also had several cocktails available for $5, so I ordered the champagne margarita. It was strong but delicious! I highly recommend trying it. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, service, food, and price. As I was writing this I was thinking 4 stars, because there is something strange to me about giving 5 stars to a diner breakfast joint (I don't value big breakfasts like most I guess), however there is absolutely nothing I'd change about Three Angels to make it better - so they get a 5 star from me!! I will visit again and will certainly show this place off to my friends who visit from out of town.

I had read they have new owners and read that Broad is so hot. We started off our night on Broad at Wiseacre for a happy. Fun! Crowded! Lively! Then we walked (in the dark) to 3 Angels. It was really quiet out - and there were only two other couples there finishing dinners. Awkward. I had a red wine, and it was underpoured .... hate that at $9/glass. I had a grilled cheese with fake bacon and it was ... really good. BUT my hubby's food looked sad. He ordered a full order of pasta (priced at I believe $10+), and he got a kid's small cereal bowl of pasta, no nice presentation, no bread - looked like yesterday's leftovers. I felt so bad I shared half my meal. Deal-breaker as I liked my food but his portion was laughable.

This is slowly becoming one of my favorite brunch places. The Weekend brunch is great. Can't really go wrong with anything on that menu. The atmosphere is very cool and laid back. It's a really small place and I think that makes it even better!

Came here for brunch not too long ago and was pretty unimpressed that they didn't offer any discounted brunch drinks like $5 bloody Mary's and mimosas. Was also a little annoyed that every time we asked a question, our server pointed to the black board to show us our answer. Like we should have read it instead of asking her for help, even though it's her job to help us. The cheese plate was really good and I don't really remember what I ordered so I guess it wasn't really memorable. I would go back, but I wasn't a huge fan. Nothing blew me away.

Cute Memphis cafe / diner, with breakfast lingering on the lunch menu and some creative items as well. Unfortunately, when we showed up at 1 PM, they were out of some menu items. SETTING: Light cafe / dinner atmosphere with these huge awesome paintings of eggs on the wall. No booths, just tables and a full bar on the side. FOOD: Menu is on the healthier / more creative side of diner food, with a number of things popping out for a vegetarian, including veg bacon. There isn't much in the way of salads, but the chickpea burger was delicious, and the kale portion was quite generous (although a tad too salty). SERVICE: Our waitress was fine, but unremarkable. As I said above, they were out of a few menu items, so not everyone got their first choice of entree. But that's not her fault--kitchen should plan better.

Divey place. The food is ok. It's got that hipster vibe that a lot of folks like these days. Not knocking it, just painting a picture of the place. Their big seller is the colossus burger, which is a burger..... There are limited daily specials which are pretty decent. I say it is worth checking out and at least getting the feel of this area "Broad". Wiseacre brewery is right across the street so you will be able to fit right in if you wear skinny jeans and BCG glasses.

Yesterday I revisited 3 Angels Diner after learning about the change in ownership and how some changes had been made. I have to say I am EXTREMELY satisfied and even grateful that this change happened. The entire place was better, the atmosphere was calmer and more soothing. I didn't see any bartenders sneezing/coughing/sticking bandage covered fingers into drinks, and the minor changes to the menu are to the benefit of everyone. I didn't try their bloody mary's this time around, BUT I did have their mango-lime aid (Which was their "Ade of the day") and it was fantastic. I also don't stick to every surface I lean on anymore -- a welcomed change. I enjoyed the addition of simple table covers and love that they kept the basic aesthetic, while cleaning the place up. Service was prompt and friendly, and prices were still reasonable. Food was good -- they added a short stack of traditional pancakes to the menu which were good, if only slightly dry. The grits I FEEL would be better normally, as it appeared that I got the semi-gelatinous spoonful that, in my experience, tends to either be from the bottom of the pot, or from grits that have been sitting out awhile (we got there very shortly after opening). The bacon itself was fantastic and my girlfriend absolutely enjoyed her vegan sausage and biscuits. The staff there also did a fantastic job and actually understanding what it means to be a vegan, and even went out of their way to make sure her food didn't touch mine. While I don't feel the magic of the early days, I am pleased to be able to add 3 Angels back onto my places to visit for brunch.

Terrible first impression. First time here, asked for extra item on my sandwich. Server returned to say the owner refused. Will likely never return. Would have gladly paid to add cheese. Jeez! #Yelp901

I came in on Wednesday July 1st for lunch in hopes of getting the fried chicken, which is sadly off of the menu. A little disheartened I looked at the menu and quickly realized in would survive, I finally decided upon that days special the chicken cordon bleu panini with potato chips. 1 bite in my only thought was this should be on the menu, it was a simple yet elegant sandwich served on fresh baked foccacia bread with grilled chicken, ham, Swiss cheese, caramelized onion and in house made honey mustard. The chips at first glance look like lays bbq potato chips but after 1 chip and the flavors of garlic, chili powder, and cumin errupt in your mouth. I left that day having forgotten completely about the fried chicken. After this experience I knew I had to give brunch a try on Sunday, since my last experience with there brunch was down right awful I came in with little hope a but open minded that things have changed since April. Immediately I was worried because the greeter was to busy with the waitress playing on her phone but I seated and thankfully waited on by a very attentive young man, my order was promptly taken. I ordered what is called the kitchen sink (Breakfast potatoes, hash, gouda grits, bacon, sausage, and eggs) I waited for maybe 2 minutes and I was diving in. All I can say is perfection. It is apparent that the person cooking is not.the same as it was in April because food came out fast and hot and made correctly. The wait staff was 50/50 my waiter and the bar tender (who might be twins) were working and attentive but the greeter and the young woman seemed to be to busy in there own world. I can't speak for diner but if you want an excellent lunch or brunch this is the place to be, I will be back for dinner very soon.

I was going to meet some friends at the coffee shop next door, and I really wanted breakfast. One of the baristas in the coffee shop recommended that I eat here for brunch because it was Sunday. The restaurant looked very nice and eclectic; the food on people's plates looked really good. I ordered the kitchen sink because I was hungry. It was togo so maybe that contributed to the taste. Before I received my food the bartender said she rung up the wrong meal, so i had to give her my card and pay an additional two dollars because or her negligence. I understand that the kitchen has to have the right meals typed in the system, but that measly two dollars could have been taken care of if she made a mistake in the system. I was very happy to receive my food, but I did not open it until I went back to the coffee shop with my friend. When I opened it, I was immediately appalled. The smoked gouda "cheese grits" where just plain grits with two cold pieces of gouda on the top. I was just completely disgusted, then on top of that my potatoes where not cooked in the hash or sautéed potatoes. I wanted to go back, but it was Sunday and I didn't want the headache. The only thing that was good was the sausage patty, something that you cannot mess up. I hate to write this review, but I felt like it was necessary.

They have a pinball machine. It only costs one quarter. That automatically makes them AWESOME. My Pozole was almost as awesome. A hybrid of chili, soup, and stew, this pork, hominy, and chili pepper concoction had the texture and feel of a slightly watery mole, a pretty good bowl of comfort food. I also had a side of Mashed Sweet Potato which was exactly what it sounds like. It was fine, with nothing added, but it tasted exceptionally fresh. The Historic Arts District isn't the nicest part of Memphis, but it certainly isn't a place you can't go after dark. So if you're ever in Memphis, I would definitely recommend scouting out this sweet little modern-art-loaded diner-dive.

First impressions -- my boyfriend has decided to murder me, and lured me to this dark, deserted street in order to dispose of my body. Oh wait, he's just taking me to dinner. Oops. Good thing we're packing heat. Walking in, the Three Angels looks like a dump, and not in a charming, vintage way either. One room, 9 tables, 8 seats at the bar, and the front door has to be pulled shut behind you. Everything looks like it was bought used, on a shoestring budget. We were pointed to a dark table by the door -- dark, as in, there was no light near it -- and handed menus by one of the two people running the place. The other person eventually breezed by our table just long enough to ask if we wanted anything to drink. No greeting, no offer of drink menu or specials, just "Drinks?" Disappointing, since I saw him taking glasses and full martini shakers to the next table. Water delivered, I ordered the grilled cheese and my boyfriend the hot fried chicken, only to be told that they were out of hot chicken...at 7:30pm on a Saturday. When fried chicken is one of about four things on their menu. Again, no apology, no advance warning, just out of hot chicken. Which makes me wonder, actually -- if they're out of hot chicken, will they not have any cold to serve the next day? I was just contemplating how long it takes to throw cold chicken on a plate and make a grilled cheese when our food came out. And that, my friend, is where I was quite pleasantly surprised. The adult grilled cheese has 3 kinds of cheese on it, and it was just as good as you'd imagine. My only complaint is that the bottom of it wasn't crispy like the top. The chips on the side were excellent; could have used a little salt, but really good. My boyfriend also enjoyed his meal, the cold chicken, roasted carrots and parsnips, and black bean soup. Of course, no one came to see how we were doing until they cleared the plates, sullenly asked if we wanted dessert, and nodded when I asked if they were out of chocolate pie (again, Saturday night people...really?). The check delivered, we paid cash and escaped into the night. So while I did enjoy my meal, I definitely did not enjoy the overall experience, and that will probably keep me from returning anytime soon.

Took the family there Saturday evening for my first visit and the wife's second. It was surprisingly slow at 9 p.m., so I was a little worried about the lack of folks. Nonetheless, I had the Diner Steamie Burger, fish sandwich for the wife and the young one had the grilled cheese with bacon. Everybody enjoyed their dishes. When everybody says "taste this" or "try that", I think it speaks volumes about the food. The beer selection was a little thin but with cold Red Stripe around, who can complain. Classic pinball machine entertained our young video game addict. As for the neighborhood, just know you are in Memphis and always be on guard.

One of the few great Diners in Memphis. Convenient location for those living in the netherlands between midtown and east Memphis. I have been dining at 3 Angels on Broad for over 3 years now. I've seen it during tougher times and thrive on the resurgence brought about by arrival of Wiseacre, Bounty, and other establishments on Broad. 3 Angels delivers simple, delicious food in a low key environment. The interior has been spruced up and a patio added since the new owner arrived. This dear Reader should know about the new menu! I love array of freshly prepared vegetable dishes. Order such from the list on the chalk board. Wonderful sandwiches (the Colossus Burger is my favorite), salads, fish, chicken, beef and other selections. Scrumptious homemade desserts (Lemon Ice Box pie!). High Cotton and Wiseacre beers on tap and full service bar. Great meal at a great price. I'm quite fond of 3 Angels. Hopefully you will be, as well, one day.

Lovely brunch menu. Our table had French toast, scrambled tofu, chilaquiles topped with two eggs over easy. Also enjoyed sides of potatoes, cheese grits, biscuits. Everything was well done and delicious.

The atmosphere was pretty cool. I mean they have a pinball machine! I have not seen one of those since I was a kid going to the laundry mat. I ordered the fried chicken and If I had to rate it I'd give it a strong B. It could of used more seasoning. The sides were a little strange for a diner, but I enjoyed what I ordered. I will go back because I saw a guy with a sick looking burger. All in all, I give it 3 and half stars.

I went for brunch one Sunday and was pleasantly surprised. There were lots of options. The fare ranged from vegan to meaty bacon! I had vegan biscuits and gravy! I tried something new and was happy with my choice. The service was snappy and our server was friendly. I'll be going back!

If you want a big side of insolence with your lunch, this is your place. Called in an order for my co-workers and I for lunch, and he (the order taker) was agitated that we had several forms of payment. It might be annoying (I waited tables for quite a few years) but, ummm, that's how people need to pay sometimes. Are you grateful for the business or not? It seems not - at Three Angels Diner. I want to support locally owned businesses, but I would hope and expect an expression of gratitude for that support is not too much to ask for in return. Not to mention, I know the business is struggling.

My mother, grandmother, and I traveled to 3 Angels on Easter morning 2014. The place is overall well decorated and the atmosphere is calming. On Sundays the brunch menu is available and from my experience I highly recommend it. I had the peanut butter and Nutella stuffed french toast-- amazing. I also enjoyed one of their 5 dollar alcoholic beverages. The portions were a bit small for the prices but overall- delicious! I'll visit again.

The Colossus is a burger that many people are talking about, including a blog inspired by it. Seth Agranov, the blogger for Best Memphis Burger, said The Colossus inspired him to seek out Memphis' best burgers. If a burger can motivate someone to do that, it must be amazing. Well, I can assure you that The Colossus is as good as advertised. The foundation of The Colossus is its grass-fed organic beef patty. It is very lean and seasoned with a mix of salt and black pepper and likely marinated in what I believe is Worcestershire sauce. I tried to confirm this with one of the servers, but he wasn't sure. Regardless of what's in it, the beef is among the best I've tasted on a burger. It's almost as good as a steak, something that is not on Three Angel's menu. For meat being this good is a great example of the high standards that Three Angels implements in its food preparation. Topping The Colossus' great beef patty is a pile of fixings that make the burger worthy of its name. Most of it is a mound of lettuce mixed with vinegar and what a server called "oil" (maybe olive oil). Called Diner Slaw, it is more like a small salad that complements the burger well. The fried onion strings and bacon give the burger a crunchy element that meshes well with the creamy smoked Gouda cheese. As a whole, everything on the burger is excellent and I wouldn't change a thing. The only thing missing from this burger is fries. I believe it is sacrilege for a restaurant to not offer fries with a burger (especially in Memphis, America's fattest city). The two go together like cookies and cream and should be inseparable. However, many restaurants (including Cafe Eclectic, where Craig and I considered meeting) offer food choices that cater to the health conscious. While I'm not opposed to this, it would be nice if fries were an option. Speaking only for me, I feel that potato chips (even made by Three Angels) just don't cut it when I'm eating a burger. Other than the lack of fries, The Colossus is an outstanding burger that I recommend meat lovers to try. It is a culinary masterpiece and one the best burgers in Memphis. Personally, I've rated Three Angels 5th on my list of favorite burger joints based solely on The Colossus. Someday, I'll get around to trying Three Angels' other burgers like the Diner Steamie. If they're half as good as The Colossus, it will be worth the trip. One thing that's certain is Three Angels will never disappoint anyone with a bad meal. Because of that, I plan on making many visits there in the future. To read the entire review, go to kensfoodfind.com/2012/12…

I always enjoy dining at Three Angels Diner. I tend to go there on days off from work so I can enjoy a glass of wine with lunch. The service is always excellent and the food is delicious. I recommend the vegetables, the burger, the open faced chicken sandwich and the pozole. I also enjoy looking at the beautiful art work on display.

What a complete disappointment! I've been wanting to try Three Angels for some time now. Reading reviews I wanted to try the Diner Burger with homemade chips. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon. One other table of patrons were seated. After a few minutes the server comes from the kitchen and more or less "points," meaning sit anywhere you like. She wasn't rude but she was not charming either. We both order the Diner Burger, cooked medium, it comes with the homemade chips, fries are not an option. The food came out much faster than I expected. Too fast to be honest. I thought the chips would be fried to order, but no, they were cold and stale. The burger was a true mystery. It was ordered medium but came out well done. The beef patty had very little warmth to it and was as dry and bland as any burger I've ever tasted. I think the cheese may have been melted on a precooked patty under a salamander. The condiments added nothing to make the burger at all palatable. When I asked for our check both plates had half the burger left and most of the chips. They were picked up without question as to why. Someone said the ambiance was that of an "upscale dive." Nothing upscale to it. It's just a dive. I love dives but only the ones that serve good food.

Where do the locals brunch? Three Angels Diner is your answer. The brainchild of local chef, Jason Severs, already revered for his Italian fine-dining restaurant, Bari (ahem! incredible), this place offers up the kind of breakfast you imagine coming out of your grandmother's kitchen, especially if your grandma is a chef with an eye for flavorful combinations (aren't they all?). Now, it is brunch, so we are allowed to indulge, and indulge we will! We started with mimosas. Clearly, someone (below) needed one. To accompany his mimosa, Derren ordered their signature brunch dish, The Kitchen Sink. Listen as a serenade you with the mouth-watering details... It's beef brisket hash, home made sausage, bacon, garlic cheese grits, flat top potatoes, and cheese, all topped with 2 fried eggs and house made salsa. After demolition, it is clear that this breakfast is no joke! While he was eating everything in the kitchen, I had my usual, the blueberry pancakes. If these breakfast delicacies every leave the menu, I will revolt (you've been warned!). Seriously, they are that good. The sweetened sour cream, which is generously drizzled all over the top, offers a delicious compliment to the maple syrup served on the side. Yes, I will have two orders.... Continued with photographic evidence on my food blog!

This place has soft lighting that works well with the cool furniture and artwork. They hang different artists and offer the pieces for sale, so you won't see the same works every visit. The menu is small with different daily specials. The food is incredibly good and not expensive. Their cocktails are delicious and the staff is warm and friendly. This is a great place for a date.

I think the Yelp rating guide says it all - "I've experienced better." And to think I almost went for three stars until I saw that means "A-OK." Three Angels could have easily been better. Our peppy waitress was no help besides telling us everything they were out of, and pushing the mojito. My first thought was, "better come early!" The place was packed early Sunday afternoon, and I could understand that they might run out of food. I was puzzled at how you could get sausage if you ordered one meal, but otherwise they were out. Seems fishy, but I don't eat the piggies, so I didn't press for details. The real disappointment came when my meal arrived. I ordered the tofu scramble and it looked awful. It tasted okay, but this was no pretty dish, and it was slopped on an otherwise empty pate. My partner ordered eggs and vegan sausage, and his was similarly skimpy. I can appreciate reasonable portions in these supersized days, but I would have liked my server to suggest a side dish (or something! - even restructure the menu to have better rounded meals!). I think they were trying to close early and hurry us out. Bummer.

10/9/11 - First time here. Sunday brunch. Had the "Kitchen Sink". Good stuff, especially the homemade sausage. Great service and atmosphere. Just another one of the locally owned places in Memphis I'm always seeking. Will return.

Less than impressed, and nothing angelic about this place. My friend and I went in here on a Saturday afternoon, sat down and took a hard look at the menu. We ordered our drinks, and kept contemplating on what we were going to have. Neither of us could fathom spending the money on a meal here even after the waitress brought my watered down sweet tea, and his non-carbonated soda. Something about paying $3.50 for their 'one day old chicken' rubbed me the wrong way. Paying $9.00 for a salad that didn't have enough ingredients in it to be worth that much, and something that I could make at home also anything but appealing to me. Bottom line, we got our tab and made our way to Cafe Eclectic. I think the only thing I liked about this place was the decor. Other than, I'd advise to go elsewhere for your meal.

As seen on "Diners and Dives". Atmosphere is interesting but probably closer to an upscale "dive" in decor. Hubby and I shared their famous colassus burger and 1 pc of fried chicken. Toppings on burger were very tasty, and terrific...as was the presentation! Burger meat was ok but not great quality...for $9 I wanted better than that. It comes with handmade chips...good but a little greasy. The fried chicken breast was excellent, perfectly done and crunchy good exterior. There were other things that looked promising on the menu so we will be back.

We've tried twice but that's it. Diner it's not. The first time we went thinking we would have breakfast...no breakfast; never...just an egg sandwich. There are lots of images, aromas and culinary expectations when one thinks of diners. Three Angles does serve a few diner classics but hitting the mark as a diner it does not. I know of no other diner that has a $10 corkage fee...actually, I've never been to a diner that has a full bar. Nevertheless, there are four red wines on the wine list at $28/bottle...yet if you bring your own you have to pay $10 to rent their glasses...that's offensive. We were told they only make enough mashed potatoes to go with the meatloaf orders. When fried chicken and mash potatoes/gravy are both printed on the copy machine menu it seems that a paying customer would be able to enjoy both. The vegetable selections sound like those of a pretentious nouvelle establishment...not a square room with eight tables and an obnoxious pinball machine. The potato hash was mashed potatoes formed in patties and browned on the griddle...not sure why they couldn't just skip the griddle part and call them mashed potatoes. The sauteed cabbage/fennel had a nice tooth but should've been called warm slaw...the vinaigrette was overpowering. On a positive note, the fried chicken was actually hot and tasty...unfortunately, it's overpriced and served alone on a bread and butter plate. The server knew we were not happy about the corkage fee and didn't add it to the tab...thus, I tipped her 40%. The place was packed and extremely lively so we're obviously the only ones that have these issues. Just know this is a diner in name only...go without expectations of such and know the business plan is created by restauranteurs trying to think outside the box and you'll be fine...try the lemon icebox pie. Obviously from the slanderous response by sous chef Jason; they think very highly of themselves and certainly that's their right. It just might be that listening to those that are paying the salary's could be beneficial when the new wears off and Broad becomes yet another Memphis Art district that dies.

3 Angels is one of the best spots for unique vegetable dishes in Memphis. If it was a little closer to home I would be a frequent visitor. Some will find the location a bit, well, off the beaten path. I kind of like the mild ghetto experience. It's different. It's weird. I like 3 Angels' weirdness, but it's not for everybody. Don't get me wrong, the clientele wouldn't qualify as ghetto; it's just that the area makes Overton Square or Cooper-Young feel warm and fuzzy. If you like good meat and vegetables in a slightly granola atmosphere, give 3 Angels a shot. I'll certainly be back.

Ate here again. I was going to venture away from the Colossus Burger, but I had a strong hankering for a burger. Subbed ginger snap peas for fries. Top-notch banana budding for dessert. This was my third time to dine here. The serving staff is very kind and excellent, the food has been consistently delicious all three times. I am glad these guys are in business. Enjoy Three Angles. It's heavenly.

I've had dinner at Three Angels several times and have enjoyed my food and the experience. On occasion, the portion sizes of sides have been extremely small. I had a kale side once that was literally three bites. But, we've enjoyed other items and this one issue has not deterred us from eating there. We were excited to try brunch finally and did so this past Sunday. Our experience was horrible from beginning to end. All of the adult beverages are $5 and very small. My bloody mary tasted like watery tomato juice. The menu states in bold that there are no substitutions, and as we asked questions we came to understand that means no special requests at all. First, we were not allowed to have whole eggs in the frittata instead of egg whites. Ok, I guess that would count as a substitution so at least they warned us. We were then told we could not order extra onion or cheese on our dishes, even if we were happy to pay extra. By the time we got our food we had been told "no" so many times, my friend was afraid to ask for jam to put on her biscuits. My potato cakes were slightly gray (probably from oxidation), and completely raw inside. No one checked on us to ask how our food was. When the server finally came by again, it was to clear our plates. When she asked if I was done with my full plate, I told her I was unable to eat my food because it was not cooked. She apologized but did not offer to bring me something else or remove the item from my check. We were so tired of the attitude that we didn't hang around to argue the point. If you're going to tell your customers that their order preferences are irrelevant, then your food better deliver. Uncooked potatoes, unseasoned eggs, and soggy bacon don't deliver. Don't bother with this place.

Miracle on Broad I'm still very excited about this new(ish) restaurant, and so far, everything I've ordered has been heavenly. They have a very unique, upscale (but not pretentious) take on the "diner food" concept, and a very cool setting. I commend Three Angels for being committed to using high quality, sustainable ingredients, from local produce to humane-raised beef and chicken. I hope more Memphis restaurants embrace this concept. After all, who wants food from a factory when you can have it straight from the farm?

Three Angels has a great location and nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, the food quality left much to be desired. My wife had the steamed burger. It consited of a normal size bun and a piece of meat around the size of a half dollar coin. I had the tasteless meatloaf atop tasteless garlic mashed potatoes. I have had frozen dinners of higher quality.

I looked this up expecting to see 4 or 5 stars as an average, and am shocked that so many people thought so little of it. Jessie J - get over your bad experience and giving one star reviews to the same business repeatedly. You've made your point quite clearly. Yelp is a place to give reviews to businesses, not have online arguments with people. I don't know how anyone could dislike this place. It serves gourmet diner items for diner prices, and on top of that features a FULL BAR to boot. They have a rolling menu of different vegetarian dishes (a number of different veggie sides), in addition to a number of traditional diner items, served with the flare of a gourmet chef. I've been here a few times, enjoyed the steamed burger and had one of the best fried egg sandwiches I've had anywhere. Also, don't know why a previous reviewer complained about the chips - they have delicious freshly made chips here, some of the best potato chips I've had anywhere. I'd rather a restaurant serve me quality homemade potato chips than average fries. Don't know how anyone could not LOVE this place. It offers delicious food at low prices, with a full bar to boot. If you live in midtown and feel like going out for drinks and a bite to eat, go here. If you want to go out for dinner but normal restaurants have closed, go here. You will not go wrong.

Was excited to try 3 Angels from hearing good reviews. First visit was awesome, not disappointed. Colossus burger along with an innus and gunn rum cask..delicious! Since then my visits have not quite held up. Depends on your server. It seems to be a different experience each time. Love Bobby Spillman's art on display though.

I've been to Three Angels Diner four times. And I can say that everything I've had is great. The menu is inventive and eclectic. The bar is cute and the bartenders and wait staff are always on. They also do a great Sunday brunch. I would caution parties larger than four to rethink the choice to go here at busy times, which is almost always. The wait can be a long one, and for good reason. It's good. I went for Sunday brunch with a party of six and the wait was going to be over an hour. So we went to Cafe 1912. Still... It's a great place. Try it!

Three Angels quickly became one of my favorite places to eat. Really good veggies options, cute take on diner food and atmosphere, and awesome bartender (Dave? David?) Every featured daily veggie has been soo good. For those wondering, most veg options seem to be vegan (no butter, etc.), as well as the soups. The adult grilled cheese was usually my jam (don't forget to add the veggie or real bacon.) Also, hot sauce lovers... ask the bartender about the hot sauces he makes. He really ought to think about selling it by bottle.

It's worthy of something different. It's quaint but capable of a nice experience. Seems like it stepped into the past. I had the Crunchy fish sandwich with homemade chips and slaw. They don't offer Louisiana hot sauce if you need that. My Margarita was satisfactory and they offer the Memphis Flyer. Simple but satisfactory; I'll come back.

Stopped at 3 Angels' Diner when I was passing through Memphis in December 2013. Small, very basic diner with a full bar. Everyone who worked there was really nice (and I loved their T-shirts!), and the food was pretty tasty. I got the veggie plate, which was comprised of three items on their veggie list. The portion was small, but turned out to be enough for a light lunch. There's not a ton of room to sit, but it's definitely worth a stop.

Six of us went here for dinner a few months ago. We highly recommend it. The group shared several of the day's selection of vegetables. Everyone thought they were well prepared and with interesting and unusual flavor combinations / preparations. Definitely *not* your frozen bag of mixed veggies. For my main course, I had Pozole. Great, deep flavor. For my beverage (OK, my first beverage), I had Ginger Lemonade. This was lemonade with ginger aftertaste, not "knock your socks off" Ginger. Very refreshing. For my second beverage, I had the Blueberry Limeade. Again, this had a delicate blueberry flavor, nothing really hitting you in the face, but light and refreshing. My wife had a burger, a Really Good Burger. Great slaw topping for the burger. Homemade potato chips, extremely thin and crispy -- fabulous. This is a small place, and they obviously do not have huge stocks of food in the back that they may have to throw out if it doesn't sell enough. The Rustic Apple Pie ran out while we waited for a table, which disappointed me greatly. (Next time, I'll know better, and order the pie as soon as I sit down.) We had the last order of Brussels Sprouts for the evening. I ended the meal with Lemon Icebox Pie. This was really well executed and delicious. (However, I still wished I could have tried the apple pie. Grr.) Also available are several beers (some less commonly found), wines by the glass, and hard liquor. Friendly service with just a couple mid-steps (not remembering who ordered what, and forgetting who had asked at the start of the meal to be given the check). I look forward to going again on a future visit to Memphis.

After a months of anticipation (and a little permit drama), Three Angels Diner has opened in the Broad Ave. Arts District. The diner is the the latest restaurant by Jason and Rebecca Severs (who also own fancy Italian joint Bari). I've never eaten at Bari, but if it's as good as Three Angels, I'm totally interested. The food at Three Angels is decidedly low key. The menu's full of simple diner classics - fried chicken, meat and twos, adult grilled cheese, salads. It's also completely affordable, with most dishes under $10. I had a fried chicken breast, a cup of vegetable soup and some garlic mashed potatoes. The chicken was crispy and light and the mashed potatoes had tons of flavor. I loved the vegetable soup. It was full of tomatoes, potatoes, celery and carrots in light, slightly sweet broth. (A note for vegans and vegetarians - the soup was made with chicken broth.) Since the restaurant is brand new, they're still trying to work a few of the kinks out. While all of my food was great, it could have been more consistently heated. Also, know that Three Angels doesn't have beer yet (they've applied for their permits).

Since we are regulars at Bari, we visited Three Angels Diner shortly after it opened, and were intrigued with the Retro decor and the unusual rendition of "diner" food. Last Saturday, we went for dinner and were charmed all over again. Whatever negative reviews that you have been reading about the place, in particular some very personal and vitriolic ones, we can only say IGNORE them. Three Angels is a welcome addition to the burgeoning Broadway arts scene and in fact displays local art on its walls. The overall vibe, though, is like visiting a friend's rec room in the 60's -- mind you, a rec room with a particularly well-stocked bar and a friend whose mother is a way better than average cook for the era. I have a special fondness for the aqua walls and orange sofas. But let's get to the food. While you need to remember it's a diner and not a temple of Haute cuisine, Three Angels serves a kind of crossover menu, heavy on the sandwich section. My crispy fish sandwich was excellent: a fat hunk of lightly battered and fried succulent white fish, accompanied by a zesty vinegar-y Cole slaw and house made potato chips that are addictive. A winsome touch was the addition of a deviled egg. My spouse aimed for one of the entrees, the posole stew, rich with pork and chiles -- the kind he's been longing for since Santa Fe. Cocktails are interesting, featuring the martini (another Retro touch) and the wine and beer list, while limited, is also interesting as well as reasonably-priced. The wait staff is friendly and efficient, without being hovering. Our only complaint was the volume of the music, but that didn't disturb the arty twenty-somethings at most of the other tables, who are probably more used to conversation at high decibels.

We had a great first visit to 3 Angels Diner. The meatloaf with garlic potatoes and onion strings was well above average. I enjoyed my fried green tomatoes, too. My husband had the Collosal Burger and was very happy with it. The fact that they have dark beer on tap was also a plus. The lemon ice box pie was as good as my mom used to make--high praise. Service was good. My only complaint is the parking, or lack of parking. Otherwise, a great experience.

I'm excited about 3 Angels opening as a big fan of Bari. Tried it today for lunch and they are still working out some kinks. Everything tasted good, but the fried chicken was room temperature (and it wasn't the "day-old" cold chicken they offer on the menu). Tasted good though. The pozole was fantastic, but $9 for what's supposed to be a cheap dish should have more of that delicious pork and hominy. That said, I will be back. Just about everything on the menu sounds great.

I love this place! The food is different-DELICIOUS! I've eaten there several times and it's been great each time. Great food, fantastic service every time. One of my new favorite places! Too bad they're not there today, cause we wanna go there now!

I ate here with 2 other people today. Two of us got the Colossal Burger and my other friend ordered the braised short ribs. The burgers were very good -- griddle fried, served with crispy onions, bacon, and shredded gouda cheese. I ordered mine medium, and to my delight that is what I got. Served with the burger is homemade potato chips. YUM. My only complaint was that they had no mustard. Really? You've got ketchup & mayo, but no mustard? Oh well. The owner of the braised short ribs refused to share them with me, but I don't blame her because of how little bitty the portion size was! I teensy mound of grits sat atop her big ol' plate, topped with a few bits of braised short ribs. She said it was good, but she was also the first one done and looking at our burgers...I gave her a quarter of mine, along with some of the chips. I would go here for lunch...maybe next time I'd try the fried chicken....but as far as a date goes, NO WAY. The decor is tacky & the games over in the corner are loud. I think with some tweaking, this place could do really well.

Fish sandwich is amazing. Some of the things on the menu are pretty small for the price while others are just right. So i guess you never know. My boyfriend got a chicken thing and although it was very tasty, was no where near enough food for the price. He left still hungry. Everything was very fresh and service was fine. Ill go back again, but im not in any hurry.

I really like Three Angels. I almost always get a veggie plate and have yet to get any vegetables there that haven't delivered. (If they ever have gnocchi when your there, get it.) Also all of the burgers are fabulous. I recommend the Colossus. Haven't tried their brunch yet but I've heard wonderful things.

rebecca, my husbands burger, WAS burned. i STILL thought it was delicious, he however did not. again, you and your staff are calling your patrons (the people that pay your salary) liars. i reached out to you in kindness in a private email to try and explain how yelp.com worked and that you should probably open a business account to respond to reviews instead of posting a 5 star review about how great your restautrant is and if anyone differs then they are obviously an idiot. yet, you still managed to lash out- so i'm guessing your apology via private email for everything that was written by your neanderthal of a sous chef was just to get me to raise my stars?? FYI, i'm feeling generous so i'll help you once more. the three 4 and five star reviews that just "magically" popped up within the last 24 hours are called "shill reviews" ( urbandictionary.com/defi… ) see #2. they will be flagged and most likely removed. the yelp community sees reviews like this and reacts quite harshly as they as being tricked into believing a restaurant has a higher rating then it really does. integrity is lost when a restaurant solicits reviews from friends or posts shill ones such as you have. oh, and one more thing- YOU may have told your employees you intended to buy new things for the restaurant, but that is the COMPLETE opposite of what WE were told by your waitress. i repeat, she even asked us if we knew of any restaurants going out of business that no longer needed high chairs. my husband is a witness as he was standing right next to me. so it seems you need to get your facts straight from the waitress you hired, you are the owner after all. FYI, i am kicking myself for giving you the benefit of the doubt. i was alerted by several yelpers to your "bread policy" at bari, that required not one but TWO separate posts in your FAQ. that is the tackiest thing i've ever seen a restaurant of that supposed caliber try and pull.

  • David S.

interesting menu but the restaurant doesn't operate well. Food seems to appear randomly out of the kitchen. No rhythm to service and an expediter is needed. The front door doesn't open without a big push/pull/shove and the lighting is poor, enough to be a distraction. Looking around, only the egg dishes looked appealing. And, I would expect a diner to be open for breakfast.

Jason, your response made me a fan of 3 Angels for life. I've been back multiple times since my first review and 3 Angels keeps on getting better. The bar is a nice addition and the bartender who served me while I was there really knew his stuff. It seems like your BOH and FOH are coming together nicely. I wish you guys continued success and will be back.

Things got off to a bad start last night when we realized the short ribs weren't on the menu anymore and the the other dish that I wanted to try, the meatloaf, was sold out. With such a limited menu, they really shouldn't run out of their most popular entrees at 8pm on a Saturday. The night was saved however by the delicious burger with fried onions and Gouda. It was the best burger I've had in a while. This place could definitely use some fine tuning but I would recommend going for the burger and good draft beer selection.

Full disclosure: a couple of my friends work at Three Angels Diner. But even if they didn't, I'm pretty sure I'd still love it. First things first: I have said for years that Parks is the best bartender in Memphis. He has never served me a bad drink and I don't think a cocktail exists that he doesn't know how to make. On top of that he's incredibly nice and tells some amazing stories. So know that if you sit at the bar when he's working you're pretty much guaranteed to have a good time. Second, the food is wonderful. My first trip I had the adult grilled cheese -- with bacon, of course. It was perfect, filling without causing that "ugh, stuffed" feeling. And the chips! I could eat my weight in those delicious homemade chips. The second time I had the pozole, which was also fantastic. I'm looking forward to trying the burger and the fried chicken on my next visits. The atmosphere is simple yet lively with bright blue walls and music played on a record player. My only complaint is that the location of the bathroom is kinda weird -- you basically have to walk through dry storage to get to it -- but I'm sure there's nothing the Severses could have done about that. And everything else more than makes up for it.

My husband and I ate lunch here, and both agree it's the best meal we've had in a long time! Great atmosphere, full bar (our mojitos were perfectly made) and the food? Incredible. Meatloaf and mashed potatoes, cold fried chicken and collard greens that were the best I've EVER had. Finished off with banana pudding and lemon ice-box pie, both home made and delicious. Very friendly, attentive service. We willl be back!

My family and I went to Three Angels for the first time on a recent Friday night. It was great! I got the adult grilled cheese that came with the homemade chips...both were excellent!! My husband got the meatloaf and I ordered the grilled cheese with cheddar only for my 4 year old. We were all very satisfied with our food. If you are looking for a quite place to eat, Three Angles is not for you but if you want family-friendly and fun this is it! We were there around 6:30...had to wait a few minutes which was fine with us. That gave us time to enjoy our Schlitz!! This is a great place and what makes it even better is the high quality, local ingredients they use...keep up the great work...we'll be back soon!!!

we went on a friday night. i think that might have been our first mistake. the place was packed. we waited a while for a table. we knew when we saw people coming thru the front door with whole foods bags that they had run out of food. there were at least 2 large parties of 6 to 8 people we had to wait to leave before we could get seated. once seated, we got to look at the menu which is not very large. some of the veggies on the list they ran out of. we ordered the vegetarian chili (not bad in taste, little thinner than i like my chili but full of beans and tofu). a veggie plate was ordered. we selected the roasted asparagus (was supposed to come with some tomato sauce but we figured they ran out of it and we got the newly bought asparagus from whole foods sans the tomato), some potato hash, and roasted brussel sprouts (little on the crunchier side, needed more caramelization). the portions themselves were on the small side. i got the fried chicken. they offer a cold fried chicken for a $1 less. i ordered the fried chicken that was supposed to be hot but was cold. the flavor of crust was okay. it would have been better had it been hot because it would have been crunchy. also, i think they need to brine the chicken so the meat has flavor. it could be the fact that i got a breast and those usually have less flavor. on the night we were there, we could tell there were problems. the lady at the next table sent her entree back. it was not cooked properly. then we saw a plumber come in and go towards the back. the wait staff is nice and tried really hard but the problem is in the coordination. service for the food to come seems really slow. i think the kitchen was in the weeds and did not expedite the food out in order. i also think they ran out of food and had to scramble to get it cooked and out. the vibe of the place is cool and hip. the bobby spillman painting on wall is very cool. i don't know if we just caught them on a bad night or what. i really like their sister restaurant, bari. we want to go back and have a different experience. i gave them 3 stars even though it was more like 2 1/2 stars. we are excited that they are cheaper than bari and offer vegan/vegetarian options. if they can work out the service/food issues, we will be back.

Some friends and I hit brunch at Three Angels on Sunday. It was a gorgeous day to get out and about. We had a slight wait of about 5-10 minutes but I ran into a friend so time passed quickly. We were promptly greeted and made our beverage selections. Mimosa for one, bellini for me, and coffee for another. We put our order in and our food was out within 10 minutes. We had the frittata, the french toast, and the scrambled eggs with goat cheese, with various sides of bacon and cheese grits. The french toast was great when you need a sweet b-fast, my eggs with goat cheese were good, and the frittata patron liked her food. The biscuit I got with my eggs was good but was only slighly bigger than a 50 cent piece. Wished it was bigger but considering I had cheese grits as well, that was probably a good thing. One of my biggest irritations in b-fast places are "grits with cheese in them vs. cheese grits". Three Angels are definitely cheese grits and delicious. The restaurant got a little loud at times and could use a few more tables but overall two thumbs up and I'll be back!!

I like the atmosphere. It reminds me of an old record store, only with food and drink Appetizer: Grilled Panella cheese rubbed with herbs served with toasted rye drizzled with balsamic. - The cheese was a little bland and I wish there would been more rye toast points. Gouda cheeseburger with fries and bacon - very good but a little dry Service was friendly and warm It seems like the food tries to be upscale but the space doesn't match the menu. I think they should go the other way and serve more comfort food and drink

I had to update! I'm 90% certain they have new owners or management since my last review. I'm obsessed with their brunch! And Broad Ave is booming, honey. It is THE place to be right now. Their grilled cheese is literally the best grilled cheese I've ever had in my entire life...and I am a grilled cheese addict, expert, connoisseur, whatever you want to call it. I know my grilled cheese...and their's is the best thing in town. There is a full bar so you can get your drink on plus the place is decorated super funky and eclectic...I just really like the vibe of this place. Unique, fresh, Memphis.
