I had seen Ugly Mug on the corner of Poplar and Perkins. It was another coffee house before, but I like who they are now. The coffee is good, of course, but the staff make the whole trip enjoyable. They are friendly, helpful and made our experience a good one. They do have a drive-thru if you don't have time to go in. In fact, if you like the coffee, they will even sell you a bag to take home! Swing by and pick up a good cup of java the next time you're zipping down Poplar Ave.

Solid coffee. Flavored roasts are particularly good--I like the Butter and Blue Suede flavors in particular. This isn't a pour-over-style 3rd wave coffee shop, it's just a solid locally-roasted place. The chai is particularly tasty (it's worth getting the chai mix on its own to bring home with you) and I'm looking to try some of their more exotic drinks in the future. Alright service. The interior is a nice efficient little place to get work done with plenty of cords and the seating's never been crowded when I've been in there.

When Ugly Mug first opened, service seemed kind of slow and inefficient, so I was drawn away. I've gone back a couple of times since -- twice this week -- and service has been great! So it was obviously just a couple of new-opening glitches. I typically use the drive-thru and it's taken me no longer than 2 minutes to get in and out with my coffee. I typically order my coffee black, and usually iced during the spring/summer. Some places have awful iced coffee -- but not Ugly Mug. I like it better than Starbucks' iced coffee. I'm glad I work so close to Ugly Mug and have to pass it so often. It's a nice place to swing by and get my coffee fix.

It is a nice local spot for coffee and the sausage biscuit is pretty good. I will give the coffee another try because I think the barista misunderstood when I asked for an extra shot and gave me an extra shot(s) of vanilla and not espresso. So, my latte was super sweet and tasted like medicine. I went on a weekday morning at prime time and the service was fast.

I discovered this place on Yelp and the coffee is amazing. I needed a break from Starbucks! I had the White Chocolate Macchiato. It's very tiny so you have to watch out close for the place!

I never had the opportunity to visit Poplar Perk'n while a student at Rhodes, so I'm unfortunately unable to compare Ugly Mug to its seemingly very popular predecessor, but I can tell you that I have spent far too much on Ugly Mochas since returning to Memphis--and would go back for my second large in 6 hours if I could do so without looking like a maniac. Solid wifi, pretty good service (though note to the male barista who recently transplanted here from Minnesota: I get that you've been in Memphis for two weeks, but some of us don't take kindly to Bluff City-bashing--just saying). There's nothing ugly about the Ugly Mug!

nasty. the coffee is abysmal and bitter - i'd rather drink the three month old rotten coffee grounds infested with ebola, leprosy, and herpes than drink their swill. it's absolutely awful. make sure you've made your peace with god before drinking this so called coffee. AND they got my order wrong TWICE. Avoid this place... in the name of all that is holy.... burn it to the ground and the toxic sludge they call coffee will still be a biohazzard scene for the next 54 years. AVOID!!!!

I am a fan but when comparing to other shops in Memphis by way of ranking three stars are in order. Pro's: drive thru-- a must with little baby who is sleeping in the back seat! They have all the "milk" varieties: soy, vanilla soy, almond milk ... And of course half and half and all the % of milks. Staff- very friendly service. Accommodating to make my drink per my request with no lip. I always get "extra extra hot" and they made it to burn my mouth out which is just the way I like it :) Beans and Roasting: they use Highpoint out of MS and beans are decent. They have a variety of flavored coffees if you are into that sort of thing. Outdoor seating and indoor is small but outside offers a view of poplar not much to see aside a bunch of cars.

What a cute little coffee shop! A bit on the small side though...but you don't notice it if you use the drive-thru! They have delicious coffee, tea, and baked goods. I always get the bagel and cream cheese (which they WILL toast for you...unlike some places...) and a soy green tea latte. A tad expensive...but the same as Starbucks. Oh! And a nice (but again emphasis on small) patio.

Very well designed coffee house with patio seating and great coffee. Has a great hot chocolate with caramel overtones for non coffee drinkers. Met the owner who is a son of the Lambert Coffee Co. founder who bought the business.

I really liked the White Mocha here but the Caramel drink I got was not good at all. The people were nice here though and I am super excited that they sell the Hot Chocolate here so I won't have to buy it online and pay for shipping. Love: - Hot Chocolate - White Mocha Hate: - Caramel Latte

I'm so happy ugly mug opened up in memphis! I've been a fan since I visited their store in nashville. I've only had their peppermint mocha, but boy is it good! I love that they will do slow drip or anything else for you if you request it. It doesn't have to be on the menu! Just ask them what they have available or if they have any specials available for the day. Its a small store (takes the place of poplar n perk), but there are small round tables for you to do work on, and also this bar/stool type table surrounding the windows as well. I love the tile they have on their ordering counter! The owner (i presume) was there the night I went as well. He is incredibly friendly and helpful! Will be back to drink through their menu! They have coffee, specialty drinks, and lattes and such. great for non-coffee drinkers as well!

I am so excited that they opened this place!!! I have loved ugly mug coffee for years. They have redesigned the shop and made it look a little urban and seems more spacious by expanding the window seats. Patio seating is still available as well as the drive thru.
