visiting Memphis and stopped in for a coffee and email session before a flight. Great cold brew and service by a lovely barista who rocked a fun rocker style. Also had a raisin croissant, wanted to try their tarts teasing me from the case, but was pressed for time. Little light on the outlets, but this place is best done with book in hand or close friend. thanks!

I have eaten at tart 3 times. The food was impeccably prepared and delicious each time. The coffee is rich, the quiche is so light it floats, the pastries addicting. The only shortcoming is the service--sometimes it takes along time to place your order at the counter. The wait afterward is not bad, and the food is definitely worth it!

Yall just don't understand my love for this place, the thirst is sooo real people. The renovated house is really nice and I'm in love with their breakfast antipasto, you never know what you will find on your tray. Usually it's a boiled egg, brie, dried meat, fruit, a small baguette, great cheese, and a honeycomb. I always get a small french press and cream (which is good for about 3 cups of coffee). I never leave without my favorite honey almond pastry either. Even though it's French food, I'm always satisfied when I leave, not stuffed but satisfied. Their French onion soup is everything you want it to be, very addictive....and dangerous. During my first visit to Tart my mother asked the guy at the counter if they had anything low fat, he asked if she had ever seen a fat French woman....I would happily be the first. I love Cooper Young, and after eating at Tart its so nice to talk a little walk around the area. They are cool with you bringing your dog with you to eat on the patio too. I'm on the lookout for a beret for my mini schnauzer as I type.

Very good croissant, shatteringly flakey crust. Coffee was decent. I got the citron tart which was incredible. Like keylime pie only better. I don't get the knocks on the service. The guys were a little slow but it was a busy morning. Besides, it takes time to make a good cuppa joe.

I definitely want to go back. I met a former colleague here for brunch. I got the hot chocolate, Croque Monsieur, and a chocolate almond croissant and something I can't remember for dessert to go. No, I didn't need dessert and yes, I ate both treats before I made it home. Back to what I actually consumed at the restaurant. The hot chocolate was rich and creamy AND quite delicious. The main event, the Croque Monsieur was better than I could imagine. Right amount of ham and gruyere- and the bread, ciabatta was fresh and just plain good. My colleague had quiche-can't remember what kind but she was equally in love with it-I like my quiche a little overdone (I know I'm weird) so if I ever order this I will have to request for them to put mine back in the oven. All in all great meal.

Oh my!!!! We were visiting Memphis, TN when we stumbled upon Tart. Our lunch of beet salad and quiche was delicious. We returned at least two more times during the week for coffee and baked goods. The last time we made it in the owner was behind the counter and offered us a free meringue which was quite nice. Must devour the lemon tart and chocolate croissants. If we return to Memphis, which we might, this will be our must visit spot.

Cute French bistro in the Cooper Young district. There was a slight mix up in our food order, and the chef came out personally to apologize and even brought us a little goodie to munch as a good gesture. Food was delicious, a lot of cheese on the croque! The onion soup could've used a tad bit more salt, but the cheese made up for it! Why bother with ordering a small coffee press, get yourself a large! Enjoy it all on their spacious patio. Will definitely venture on back!

A cute little place converted from a house, conveniently tucked away off Cooper. The decor is a little lacking; I was expecting some wall art. Maybe they're transitioning into a different collection. Food is scrumptious, portions adequate, and the coffee heavenly. I must come back to try the pastries next time.

Tart is cute and totally 150,000,000,000,000,000,000,000% hipster approved. I can't say too much about the place other than I got an apricot tart for $4 without tax, and it tasted divine. I don't typically like apricots that much, but this hit the spot. As far as my friend goes -- she got the garlic leek soup which had a little more of a cream base than she or I cared for when I tasted it. Menu items are not cheap -- if you get a sandwich, you're looking at $10-13 per item. I am accustomed to paying this in DC, but in Cooper Young? The times are changing, I guess. The sandwich I did see one girl has sitting next to us while on the patio wasn't substantial. I am not saying the quality isn't there because she did relay to us it was pleasantly good. Personally though, I think I would rather spend my money elsewhere in the area with as many offerings as they are. I can't blame a place for prices if there is a market for people who will buy the product. Just saying I probably would use this more as a pastry/coffee/quiche place than sandwiches or salads. It is nice they have these additional features though. - They have local art on display throughout the restaurant. - Staff are friendly - Dog friendly place with room for your doggies to hang with you on the large patio in the front of the building. - Mommies, they have a changing table for your baby in the restroom. All around I think this is a quaint place -- worth visiting again for sure... just not for the sandwiches because I am cheap.

When it comes to Tart, I am torn. The croissants and coddled eggs are where it's AT, but the service and the pricing are borderline ridiculous. At work, we have a joke that goes something like this: Person 1: I'm going to Tart to get coffee; want anything? Person 2: Nah, see you next week. It's really infuriatingly and ambivalently slow. The number of instances when I've stood by the register dumbfounded at the length of time it takes for the staff to put a pastry in a box to-go is ludicrous. On top of that, the prices are high for what you get, even if what you get is delicious and darling (I'm looking at you, four-cheese quiche with your side of the world's tiniest baked apple). Four stars for food (when you finally get it), 2 stars for service: 3 stars average.

A nice relaxing spot and clearly where the memphis hipsters hang. The space is nice but a little barren, I thought there was supposed to be art on the walls? The food is very good and different from the typical memphis cuisine. On one hand I applaud them for authenticity on the on the other here in America I want a little more than a small sandwich for $11. If they added chips or a side salad I'd be perfectly pleased at the prices, but I do understand the French are not a chip eating people. The service is very slow, it's great that everything is made to order but only come here if you have the time to linger, not that chairs are super cozy, hard and small rather. Also, pastries sell out fast so come early if you want your pic of everything in the case. This review seems a little more whiney than I intended so here's why I'm giving four stars - yummy food. We split the croque Monsieur and the salmon roulette, very good! The butter cookies dipped in chocolate, omg delicious! And the French press coffee is nice - a small is two cups; the cup btw is brought to you warm which was a very nice touch. I'd consider coming here a treat but will be back to experience this little piece of France in memphis.

I just went for the first time and I have to say that I LOVE it. I had a croque monsieur, and it reminded me of what I have had in France. The one at tart had a little bit more meat on it than I'm accustomed to, but I like extra meat. I think the sandwich was around $10. I also had a French press coffee that was delish. I think it was about $3 for a small. It's in a remodeled house, which adds to the charm. There is plenty of outdoor seating on a super nice patio. I will definitely be back. I didn't get any desserts, but I did have a pain au chocolat in the past from there during the Cooper Young Festival. It was also super yummy. This is a great place for sandwiches, coffee, and pastries!

So I regularly stop by Tart for a weekend coffee and pastry treat. I recently special ordered a dessert from here for a special event. The city was hit with freezing weather that caused Tart and other businesses to close for two days. They still managed to fill my order then contacted me to make arrangements to hand deliver it to my home the day I needed it. The staff is always smiling and friendly and I absolutely love the coffee and variety of sweet and savory foods. I was a regular customer but now I am a loyal customer.

Delicious! Amazing French press and croissants! Quiet and intimate! We had the muesli and with fresh fruit and a breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was on a deliciously fresh croissant and smoked salmon! Yum!!!

The food is not bad at all. But the service is horrible. They said they have a full menu, but there is no way to hold a menu and then they don't serve you at all. Obviously it is not the concept but the employees are just "pretty boys" working at a cafe with attitudes. Not impressed! The food is too salty as well.

I had lunch with a college friend here since we both have been wanting to try it and it was close by. I got the Brioche with baked eggs and a ganache hot chocolate. The service was pretty good. The food was delicious and the hot chocolate was divine, but pretty small for the 9.50 it cost for the food, but the hot chocolate was reasonably priced compared to other places. Also, it didn't seem like they had air conditioning at the time I visited because it was very hot inside. Not sure if it was just on the fritz or if they do not have it all since it was my first visit. We didn't feel rushed though during our meal and we were able to talk for a little while until our lunch hour ran out. I definitely want to come back and try some of their pastries another time because they looked wonderful.

Great service, great atmosphere, delectable food! Grab your laptop and enjoy the patio. The menu is mainly brunch-like. They even have Coke in the bottle. It's a great place for people with a sweet tooth. Lots of pastries. I highly recommend the Croque Norwegian hot sandwich: Salmon, Gruyère cheese and Dijon mustard. Delicious!! #Yelp901

If you haven't been here you need to go ASAP! This is one of my new favorite places in Memphis. The staff was friendly & helpful. The food was fantastic. I don't believe that one could go wrong with any of the food options. The delicious french press coffee hit the spot.

I love when Memphis businesses invest in patio space... Tart's patio is beautifully designed, albeit not fancy-- it's tastefully outfitted with lots of fun red furniture, tons of seating, good shade, and excellent service. As coffee goes, the French press here is on par with Memphis' best. I settled down with a book on the patio, and received my French press, only to be told the cream, sugar, etc is located at a station inside. No matter-- the coffee was good enough that I didn't need to dress it up much, but it would be a nice touch to include cream & sugar with French press service, even just upon request, for those who order a coffee press are always intending on settling down and staying for a while. As for food, the croque monsieur was right on point!! Hot, just the right portion, served with a fabulous black eyed pea salad, just as a hint of southern flavor. I picked up a small dessert to eat the next day- it was fabulous. The prices are on the high end for Memphis, but I'll pay a little extra for high quality ingredients and good coffee. Overall, I would come back. Loved the service, the food, the ambiance. Definately an addition to the Memphis food scene.

Tart was a huge disappointment for me. I've heard fantastic things and was excited to check it out. The good stuff first - parking was very easy compared to the other coffeeshops in Midtown and the machiato I ordered was decent. Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired. I had trouble connecting to the Internet, as there were more than five networks connected to Tart that are out of use. The designated network wasn't even showing up on my computer. I asked for help twice - I was given the same network and password again, and told that the staff couldn't figure out how to turn off the old networks. I tried everything I could think of, including searching for a hidden network. No luck. I know that Tart is new in town, but it seems like a coffeeshop should really get it's wifi in order. The patio area is nice, but the walls inside are plain white and the fireplaces are closed up. The seating is uncomfortable and limited. This might be a better place to meet up with friends, rather than get work done. I ended up leaving after twenty minutes in search of better service and working Internet.

This place is ah-mazing. It's a little house that's been renovated into a cafe with maximum adorableness. Great and thought-provoking art on the walls. The only quibble I have with the decor is the tables, which are a bit delicate. They're super cute but we were worried we would knock them over. I had the baked eggs en brioche which was pretty much exquisite. I'd have baked the eggs a hair longer because the whites were a little runny. My friend had an andouille, egg, and cheese croissant, which he enjoyed. Both entrees came with half a baked apple, also delicious. My latte was well-executed although I found the coffee menu difficult to see. Overall, this is the kind of place I left Memphis to find. I'll be back when I'm in town for sure.

We came and had brunch here today with friends. Our friends had been raving about Tart and so we decided to try it. We were not disappointed. This place is great! The service was great, the atmosphere was great, but most of all the food was spectacular! The croissants were heavenly. The ham and bacon were probably the best I've ever had. I can't wait to bring my mother and some more friends to Tart. I highly recommend it.

I had the pleasure of dining at Tart for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere is lovely and the service is great! The breakfast sandwich and coffee were delicious and the perfect size. The plates and cups are beautifully made by a local potter. I look forward to returning very soon.

The pastries here took me back to the days of studying abroad in Paris, where I only ate carbs and creme brûlée. Definitely check it out. The chocolate almond croissant can't even be explained. Just get it and don't make the mistake of sharing like I did. Jk. But really, it's that good. The French press coffee is more than enough for two and it's super strong.

Great spot. In town for work and found it by accident and so glad we did. Locally grown and home made. The Quiche was fantastic...coffee great and the sandwich...well what can I say. Do yourself a favor and stop by.

Passing through Memphis and saw the high ratings. Completely overrated and expensive. So disappointed. The quiche and breakfast sandwich were bland and the lattes mediocre. Not recommended sorry. Lower your prices

I took two of my kids and my mother in law from France just to see how authentic this place was. None of us were super impressed. The place is small and quaint but not a very comfortable atmosphere. People were nice and the food they almost had accurate giving they have to give little American adjustment. Our biggest problem was attempting to cut into our food. When of have to nearly stand up to get through the completely burnt bottoms of our bread makes the experience much less enjoyable. I thought maybe that's the way it was supposed to be because all four of us had that problem, but my mother in law said no. It is supposed to be toasted but not that hard to wear we even had problems chewing. The flavor was right on though. I wouldn't recommend coming back. I normally give every restaurant at least two visits but I can't see spending over $60 for another meal like this again. Some of the good... Pressed coffee and green tea were very nice. Once again... To drive from Collierville out here.. Wouldn't be worth the trip. I was really hoping to take my mother in law someplace authentic for some tastes of home.

Nice little place! Love the location on Cooper. It is in an old house (not sure what was here before) but the charm factor is through the roof. And they have a great little patio out front! One of the owners popped by our table to make sure everything was ok, which I appreciated. I had already scarfed down a chocolate croissant (delicious) before my steak salad arrived. I'm not sure why I ordered it...I even asked the cashier to recommend something (she suggested the croque monsieur or the salmon) and then I still went with something else. I wasn't really a fan. The steak was too cooked and really cold. And it was pretty much just served on a bed of lettuce. If I wasn't so hungry I wouldn't have touched it. I went back to get a cherry tart because I was still starving...and that was just like a party in my mouth. I'll be back, but next time listen to what they recommend. All of the pastries look divine so I don't think you can go wrong there. And they have free wifi! Perfect for a work breakfast or lunch.

Friendly service and great coffee! I tried a quiche while my boyfriend had a bacon breakfast sandwich, both of which were delicious. We also split an almond croissant, which was worth going back for in itself! We will definitely be back.

THIS PLACE ROCKS!! We went for brunch a week back and it was so worth every single cent. I got the Croquet Norwegian which is salmon and cheese and heaven between two pieces of fresh bread. My sister had the pear with yogurt and granola (I forgot the name, sorry) and it was super delicious and very fresh as well. The coffee is served in a presser for each order which gives you about 2 and a half cups, they offer a variety of creamers dairy and non (I had almond milk). Their apricot tart was what we shared for dessert and it was awesome--we asked them to warm it up and it was even better that way. They don't serve alcohol, but they do allow you to bring your own champagne without charging a corkage fee, which is amazing. They sell freshly pressed OJ to mix with your bubbly. The atmosphere is cozy and quaint, with small tables and chairs and creaky wood floors. You order at the counter and get your utensils in a separate area and they bring the food to you. We absolute loved it and will be going back for sure! Enjoy :)

This place is great. I went during the week for coffee with a work group of 7 and the place was pretty busy. We were able to pull together a table for 7 but it took some assistance from the staff. The coffee was excellent, I had the almond croissant and it was fabulous and the atmosphere is great. They even brought us some parties fresh out of the oven. Some of my coworkers ordered breakfast sandwiches that looked incredible. I definitely recommend this place.

Still closed at 7:14am when hours posted say 7. Simple, open on time. The other time visited the line had 4 people in front of me, service was slow - I waited 6 minutes before going elsewhere. Line never moved.

I had a great breakfast here. My group had the large French press coffee, coddled eggs, muesli, and ham breakfast sandwich. We really loved everything we ate. The patio was nice. This isn't the place to go to gorge on huge portions of food or grab and go. It is more of a slow paced, savor each bite place. It was just right for what we needed today.

This place would get 5 stars if they had better service. The food here is amazing-I've tried their quiches, salmon brioche benedict, and breakfast croissant sandwich. But it takes about 20 minutes for the food to get to your table, which is a bit too long for only having to poach an egg or heat up a quiche. And I was shocked that they ran out of fresh squeezed orange juice AND tea for Sunday brunch. The man at the counter broke the news rather unapologetically too, and didn't offer my friend or I any drink alternatives. This was also the same person from a few months ago who asked my friend to come back to the restaurant and pay for a pastry because she didn't have cash in her and the card reader was down. Wouldn't you just give it to her for free for the inconvenience? Anyway, if this place stepped up their service and personality, Tart would be the perfect place for some good, wholesome food.

Yum! This place is perfect for breakfast! Husband and I came here in a Friday at 10am to grab something quick. The location is in a old house located near cooper young. There's construction going on next door, however you can easily find it by their banner with their logo on the outside and front of the house. Walking in, the place is small and there mostly the same furniture but its an eclectic place so there's different funky chairs etc. with small intimate seating. We ordered a French press for coffee and the featured quiches of the day. It took a little longer than expected, but not too long. The staff was friendly and helpful (small tip the cream and sugar is on the right side of the house through a door) and we got an almond chocolate croissant to go. The quiches came with a small side of yogurt and fruit and was super delicious. We saved the croissant for later- it held up well and was incredible. They offered us to go cups for our coffee too! I'd like to take friends and family that visit here in the future.

Pricey but worth it. French butter and chocolate make the most pristine croissants I've ever seen, too pretty to eat. Fresh espresso, buttery flaky pastries. Great place to impress a date(hint hint for the fellas) or grab some for somebody for the ultimate full belly "walk of not that much shame".

If you're looking for a relaxed, charming little coffee cafe, Tart should be on the list. I visited on the recommendation of a friend, who described it as fancy food without pretense. For starters, it is a cool little place with old hardwood floors, cozy tables, and casual vibe. Everything is set up for a relaxed experience enjoying coffee or food and conversation. The menu indeed has some fancy touches while remaining approachable, and the staff is great about explaining the dishes if you don't know them. Everything I've had here has been good, though it seems they specialize in pastries (weird, right, since their name is Tart?). I understand the press coffee is great but I haven't had it yet myself. Next time!

Very cool little coffee, tea, and bakery shop located in a house on Cooper street! Every time I'm in Memphis I usually go to Otherlands for Coffee but this morning we checked out Tart and it was a quaint little spot! There coffee was excellent and served FRENCH PRESS style! You can order and ALL YOU CAN DRINK French Press for adding only 2 dollars on to the original LARGE Press order! That rules if you are there with a group of people or you plan on hanging out for awhile working! My pal had breakfast, which looked amazing bakery goods and oatmeal cooked to perfection! The barista's were cool and the art on the walls rules! They even have a mug club for repeat coffee Offenders! Trust me I will be back!

Not too shabby! I went on a rainy day but I feel like the patio would be sweet... Inside they've got very trippy artwork--very cool...the paintings continue into sketches on the walls and the ceiling is made of chalk-board paint so you know how fun that can get, but anyways, THE FOOD: We got there a little too late to get the coddled eggs, and the quiche wasn't spectacular (I just think we were a little late to get the freshest out of the oven kinda quiche), but the breakfast antipasto was great! Seems like a wonderful place to get a pastry too. It was cute--i liked the vibe... That gives it a star. Definitely a good addition to the neighborhood!

I'm going 5 just for the mere audacity and how splendidly they pull off the amazing flavor infusion... This quaint and cozy little house is sprinkled w childlike renderings on it's wall add a nice value to the artistry that the vastness of it's menu encompasses Upon seeing the Tuti fruity lemon meringue strawberry reduction center w crispy cracker crust surrounded by chocolate your life and I dare say your morality may be upon a precipice. Should I dive into what lies beneath the surface and enjoy this thing of beauty or should I encapsulate this masterpiece for eternity... As a known butcher of things beautiful I felt it my duty to seize the guilt my eating companion was stewing over... We finished her off much like the oysters in the Alice n wonderland epoch... Plz don't miss out on something so bright and shiny!!! Fear not dear traveler a world of un mined treasures awaits you at Tart!

I'm always hesitant to try a new business without giving it some time to work out any kinks, but I went ahead to tart anyway. The decor is eclectic but still crisp and clean. The patio looked nice, but I'll try it out on a non-rainy day. I tried the tartine (toasted baguette) with herbed feta, delicately sliced radishes, salted pork, and mashed peas with a side of the tomato and leek bisque. Although the tartine I am used to (toasted baguette with preserves and butter) was not what I had, it was still excellent and very savory. The soup was not as light and bright as I expected, but still tasted good. The cute little salad had a nice and lightly lemony, acidic dressing that was perfect. My cafe au lait had the perfect amount of steamed milk, and I enjoyed the presentation of my meal. My only qualms that gave this place a four star review: I know that a French-inspired place is going to have smaller portions, so just be aware of that. I was fine with it because I was expecting this. I ate slowly and was satisfied. The lighting was not my favorite. Maybe because it was rainy, but I think more lighting would really help. There was no music playing! Everyone in here was sitting alone or with someone in basic silence... I think a little bar area with high tables/stools would be cool when their wine license is approved. $10 corking fee if you can't wait until that time. In other words, I'll be back and am excited to try breakfast. EDIT: forgot to write about the service: order at counter and sit. Very helpful and nice. Bonus that they can pronounce the menu items well. Everything is brought to you but flatware/napkins...which is fine, but if they're bringing you the food anyway and you also tip (ahem)... Tip: grab some utensils/napkins before you sit.

Hopped off the plane looked up breakfast and decided on here. Absolutely amazing! So happy I came. The croissant was so flaky. Breakfast was everything I hoped for. Patio outside is pleasantly relaxing even with the passing traffic. Self serve water, silverware, napkins but well worth it.

We absolutely enjoyed our first trip to Tart. (Have been back many times now and love it every time!) Didn't really know exactly what to expect but looking at the pictures others posted I figured it would be good. As it turned out it was very good. The staff was very helpful and was very accommodating to our larger and somewhat confused and unorganized group. Everyone liked what they had and we shared several sandwiches, dishes, fresh squealed OJ, French pressed coffee and pastries that were all great. My sister and mother travel France regularly and said the food held up well to what they get in France. I could go into details about the 15 or so different things we tried but the bottom line was it was all good so just go try what sounds good to you and more than likely it will be good to great! There a couple goofy lower rated yelp reviews on here but just ignore them. The food was very fairly priced for the quality. We ordered a bunch of food and it ended up being $20 a head. Very fair for what we had. If you want to spend $10 a head go to McDonald's. Trust me, go ahead and support a local place that makes Memphis better. Give Tart a try!

This new french inspired coffee/dessert/food spot is great! It opens officially tomorrow. I went to a pre-opening breakfast where I had the pan au chocolat and their coffee. I can't wait to come back and try their full menu!

Food will take about 15 minutes to prepare but is super fresh and has excellent French cuisine flavor. The French press coffee is smooth in flavor and hardly bitter. I love tart!

Good coffee. Good espresso beverages. The quiche looked delectable. My breakfast sandwich and pain au chocolat (I couldn't decide between sweet and savory) were everything they should be. The dining area is fresh, homey and whimsically painted. Tart's location on busy Cooper street doesn't prevent it from seeming like a retreat. Altogether recommended.

This place is awesome. Neighborhood spot. Great food. Knowledgeable chef doing Freedom (French) Food that would leave any God fearing american full and happy. I think there was some slogan from the 80s that was like "real men don't eat quiche" so check your masculinity at the door and get ready to open up about your "feelings".

Cute little French-styled coffee house and pastry cafe. Breads, tarts, truffles and cookies are all unique and delicious, and all made in-house. There are breakfast and lunch sandwiches as well, and excellent coffees. The space is also an art gallery and has a cheerful, welcoming vibe. Keep in mind that they close very early however, often as early as 4 PM

Tart is fantastic on every level! I love the atmosphere as soon as you walk in- part art display part coffee shop. The amazing people who work there are always nice and welcoming, you never see the "I just wanna go home" look that you get at Starbucks sometimes. I would recommend anything here, I have never had a bad experience, although I will show favoritism towards the almond croissants! Perfectly rich, sweet, and flaky! The food is just incredible. They put in the time and effort to craft some beautifully delicious pastries and meal items. Follow them on Facebook or Instagram to get an update about their specials or daily items. If you are looking for a laid-back place to study, meet with a friend, or just have some alone time, this is it! Another positive is that the patio overlooks Cooper Young, I'm a people watcher so this is important to me! Hint: Macaron Monday is the only thing you should want to do at the start of your week.... Let's support this great local business!

Quaint little spot! Love the artistic decor and the conversion of this little house into a coffee/pastry shop. Service was fast & friendly, and everything we ordered was hot, fresh and delicious. It's not very roomy, so I wouldn't suggest going as a large group, but for a brunch date it would be great!

Tart is off to a great start. A great addition to Midtown's newly thriving culinary ecosystem, Tart is serving top-notch creative dishes in a nice space with a really good feel. I stopped in for an Americano and a Tartine du Jour, which today was a unique combination of perfectly sliced proscuitto, fresh fruit, and a sweet-savory reduction that was very satisfying. Kudos to the chef in a town dominated by brown food. Mixed counter/table service restaurants can be a little confusing, and Tart could probably benefit from a couple simple signs nudging customers in the right direction. Heather (I assume the owner) has clearly been responding to customer feedback, and has a good presence in the restaurant, which is always a good sign. As much as I love cured pork (and I do so much) some vegetable based options would really improve the menu, as there's no lack of outstanding vegetable centerpiece options in Memphis in the summer, and the chef appears highly creative. I'll be back to try the pastries, which look to be world-class.

If I could give different ratings for the service over the food I'd probably feel less blech-y about the rating. This place is visually appealing and, despite being small, does not try to hustle you along. Five starts for that. ***** Last Sunday my charming companion and I made plans to try this place per word-of-mouth. We have since learned to steer clear if there is more than 4 in your party mainly due the fact it is set up for counter-orders only. The food is rather spendy (too spendy for counter service, imo) but mostly good. I had the poached pears and an orange juice. I liked the pears but the price of the juice didn't make the flavor any better. My most excellent mate had the pain au chocolat, Croque Monsieur and a small French press with unlimited refills. He liked the bread, however the Croque was soggy and we never got a refill on the coffee. To be fair another person at our table did order a large French press with unlimited refills so I can, somewhat, understand forgetting the details of my order. As the flavor of the coffee received a quiet thumbs-down from my charming companion I wrote off the extra $2 for the unlimited refills as a lesson learned. All is not lost. We will likely return.

I was incredibly disappointed with this venue after reading all the incredible reviews! So, I walk in an order a black coffee, that's it, black coffee.....20 MINUTES LATER, where's my coffee? I approach the counter and the girls tell me "There are others ahead of you, sorry".... Really? Seriously? Can't you just take 2 minutes yourself and pour my coffee in a mug?...I mean, you did see me EVEN TIP YOU 2 DOLLARS ON TOP OF Your PRICE TAG FOR THE CUP, RIGHT? I walked out and left, never going back.

I have to give this place 5 stars...have to! Its has been a while since I have tried a new place in Memphis and really loved it. We have been twice and if I lived closer I would probably be here all the time...which is a bad thing because the food is so good. This past time we tried the breakfast sandwich and three cheese quiche. I got the sandwich with andouille sausage... I loved it the croissant was flaky and and perfect along with the perfectly cooked eggs and the sausage had great flavor. The quiche was just as good...I have no idea how they get the eggs so fluffy I just wish I could re create this at home! To finish off my over eating I had the chocolate pastry and it too was just as good as every thing else very flaky and fresh. This is a little place not a lot of tables and the tables are very small...a lot of people were getting take out. The service is great and the staff has always been very helpful and nice every time we have been there. This is my new brunch place!!

I have nothing even remotely bad to say about tART. We went on Sunday, I ordered the Quiche Lorraine and R ordered the Croque Monsieur. We shared a Strawberry pastry. Amazing. The layers of flavor and the attention to detail was just superb. The quiche was light but deep with flavor and the CM was just over-the-top decadent with a very rich Gruyere. And the crusts for the Quiche and the pastry... my goodness, fagettaboutit! The owner, who knew this was our fist time, was so attentive and friendly, the patio felt like i was at a friends house just hanging out. She even looked after my pups while we went in to order. If you'd like a really civilized experience, being that this type of civilized equals extremely tasty and laid back, you need to go here. The only thing I'd recommend is a wine menu or perhaps mimosas on Sunday. But, you can BYOB. I really want this joint to work, so GO! You'll be happy you did. Peace!

Being from the Northwest, moving down South we have been looking for our local coffee shop and have found it! Everything done here is done with such care and thought from the local micro coffee roasters (Relevant Roasters) to the presentation of the amazingly delicious food. We got a chance to talk to the owner our first visit and were so impressed with her passion for this place and it really shows. And plus she gave us free pastries since it was the end of the day. Love the coffee. Love the food. Love the conversation.

  • Tricia H.

First time. maybe last. No tea ( this is the South)? Two of us ordered coffee, water and 2 quiche. $22. The quiche was cold. I didn't receive a receipt so I'm not sure what each item cost. I am more satisfied with taste and price at other restaurants. We will probably try again for lunch so we don't mark them off our list after only one visit.

Attention to detail is the standard at Tart from the food to the decor to the ambiance. You get the impression that a great deal of thought and creativity went into each decision in creating the charming, eclectic business and it gives a very clean and personal feel. The food is outstanding--made from scratch soups, beautiful, rich pastries (lemon tart and chocolate croissants), hearty sandwiches (Croque Monsieur) balanced by delicate salads as lighter fare. The spacious patio seems like a great place to read the paper or catch up with a friend or simply watch the hustle and bustle of the Cooper Young neighborhood. I came with a group of women from work for a lunch meeting and we all agreed that it was a delightful, unique, and satisfying meal. I can't wait to come back and completely forgot to check out the art gallery in the bathroom (the Cooper Loo). A refreshing authentic little French bistro.

I'll start with the positive. All the food that we ordered was absolutely perfect and delicious. We ordered quiches, one with ham and Gruyere cheese and the other with blue cheese, spring onion and zucchini. We also ordered a cherry pastry, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee in a press. The quiche and pastry crusts were crunchy and tasty. The food is what makes Tart worth visiting. The service makes me never ever want to come back. I've joined many others in offering solicited feedback to the owner/managers of Tart on their Facebook fan page. But it doesn't seem to make any difference. The food is ordered through counter service, but beverage and food delivery to your table is a comedy (or tragedy) of errors. The mishaps begin as soon as you place your order. You don't receive your beverages at the counter. They give you a number on a stand for your table so they can bring beverages and food to you. This makes no sense. Pour the orange juice and pour the boiling water and coffee grounds in the press, then give your customer their coffee and let them sit down. Customers are going to have get their cream and sweetener anyway, so why make get up after they are seated? It's not necessary for the coffee to steep behind the counter while your customer waits and waits and waits. If your customer doesn't know how to operate a coffee press, tell them not to press down until the coffee steeps for four minutes. It's very simple. Also get rid of the flat ceramic plates with no edges. The young lady who brought our food dropped our food twice because of the poor design of these plates. Our cherry pastry slid to the floor as she approached our table (She went back and replaced it). Then she brought our quiches on the same ceramic plates with small bowls of fruit which also slid off the plate and onto me and the floor. It's clear to me that someone knows what they're doing in the kitchen, but the floor staff have not been trained to do their jobs. In fact, it seems as though they have been set up to fail. The current food and beverage delivery process guarantees customer irritation. Everyone I know is willing to forgive a new restaurant's first few weeks as they figure out how to even out the kinks. But Tart is running out of excuses especially after so many customers have offered patient feedback.

The food is not bad at all. But the service is horrible. They said they have a full menu, but there is no way to hold a menu and then they don't serve you at all. Obviously it is not the concept but the employees are just "pretty boys" working at a cafe with attitudes. Not impressed! The food is too salty as well.

Passing through Memphis and saw the high ratings. Completely overrated and expensive. So disappointed. The quiche and breakfast sandwich were bland and the lattes mediocre. Not recommended sorry. Lower your prices

Went for lunch. Nice place. Cool atmosphere. Food was good. Croque monsieur and a salad. Need to go back to try pastries and coffee.

We will likely return.

very nice place to hang out with friends on afternoon or late morning. Variety of tart and croissant are pretty cool. The Macoron is a sticky to teeth based on what my friend said. But still a nice place to go

Real French pastry and brunch dishes. Everything is pricey but tasty. Dishes tend to be small portions, so order pastries to go with!

First time.

Delicious!! #Yelp901

If you haven't been here you need to go ASAP! This is one of my new favorite places in Memphis. The staff was friendly & helpful. The food was fantastic. I don't believe that one could go wrong with any of the food options. The delicious french press coffee hit the spot.

I had the pleasure of dining at Tart for breakfast on a Saturday morning. The atmosphere is lovely and the service is great! The breakfast sandwich and coffee were delicious and the perfect size. The plates and cups are beautifully made by a local potter. I look forward to returning very soon.

  • Amanda D.
