Went here for my birthday back a few weeks ago, and after the 20 minute wait on a Saturday evening, I wasn't pleased with the appearance of the restaurant. There was food all over the dining area floors, the prep line looked like a tornado came through, and the table was nasty. What bothered me the most was the spoiling fish smell emanating from the prep line, and seeing unrefrigerated bags of meats/fish sitting on carts behind the line the whole time we were there. The prep line had meats mixed all about, spices spilled all over the place, the veggies were either empty, or overfilled and spilling onto others, so you might as well forget trying to avoid anything you may possibly not like, or even be allergic to for that matter. Our waiter took quite awhile to get our drinks to us, and never bothered to remove the empty glasses when we got refills, and either forgot about our edamame, or the kitchen in the back was so backed up they lost track of it. I've gone to Genghis in Atlanta before, and a larger-scale place there called Chow Baby, which has a much larger selection and is better managed and kept organized. This place just needs an overhaul in keeping things clean.

I have been here twice in the past week! This stuff is good. You get to fill up your bowl with all kinds of goodies and get to pick exactly what you want in your stir fry. Many choices of protein, veggies -fresh and not, and then a bunch of sauces. If you don't like the way it tastes it's likely your chosen combination of ingredients! Big serving for $12. I will be back!

Normally I love this place but today the chicken was really soupy and slimy raw, not sure what's goon on.

This place is pretty neat. My whole family went and we all mixed it up and did a bunch of different things. It was a lot of fun and a really fun experience. I wish they had some suggestions for things to try or popular "recipes." I personally probably won't go often because I'm not very good at mixing flavors. I tend to mix things that end up tasting terrible together. I like to have a recipe to go by.

Last night was our first time eating here. I was not impressed at all. The floors were dirty and sticky. There were pepperoni slices on the floor where we sat. Once we got up to get in line to choose our meal, the overwhelming stench of raw meat hit me. I reluctantly chose the steak, and then the vegetables. Everything looked like it had been sitting a long time. Food was just okay. I seriously think a packaged lean cuisine meal would have been just as good. Panda Express is better. We ordered two medium bowls 2 drinks and 2 desserts for 50 bucks.

Can't complain about the food if you build it yourself right ?? Place is becoming a bit of a dump, things are sticky, floors are so greasy it's hard to walk, the area around the food bar looks like a bomb went off. Don't even get me started with the mens room, it needs a remodel in the worst way. Makes me wonder what's happening with the food prep area if the part the customers see is like this

I've been to other Mongolian places that had the exact same premise, but I was disappointed by Genghis Grill. The meats did not seem to be the best quality. These are the tiniest shrimp and scallops I've ever seen, they disappear when cooked and I'd rather pay a little extra to get bigger ones. Also, my beef was a little tough. I also may have picked the wrong sauce, but the one I did pick was very bland. I put in more than they recommended but when it was cooked, I couldn't even see any in the bowl and I definitely didn't taste any. My food just had a generic grilled taste to it. Frankly it could've been done a lot cheaper by me at home with a grill. When I go out I want an experience and the food is supposed to be better than what I can make at home. Plus, when it came time to pay our bill I couldn't find our waitress, and they weren't even that busy. Not everyone has time to sit around for 20 minutes after they're done eating, to at least check on us would've been nice.

I really like this place, because it is new the wait is long, but to be expected. The concept is pretty cool, but seems to be copied by or from other restaurants I have since found around the state. Still, doesn't matter about the concept, it tastes really good. To get more stars, they should fix the carbonation levels with their sodas and . . . you call that iced tea? You are in the south, you know, way too strong, tastes terrible! I know you make a lot of money on beverages, so make them good, or we'll order water!

  • Heather A.

Weird - ordering stuff through the pad at the table was.... odd. I don't think it works like they envisioned. BUT, it did make splitting a check and paying at the end super, super easy. I loved that aspect. (Notice how I'm not talking about the food? There's a reason for that. It was pretty boring.) Our server was very friendly, very helpful, and super good about keeping drinks filled. I wouldn't go back, though. I can make better food at home.

The food is tasty. Came for the first time off the coupon advertisement. The staff seems really young and inexperienced, we had to track down a server from the bar. We had to ask a few times for drinks and utensils. We got our appetizer after we ate our main course and dessert. We were sitting at the bar and a waitress was violently throwing dishes and cups into a bin. The floors, tables and counters are sticky. No management is present on the floor or observing the chaos. In need of a good manager and better staff.

My sister introduced me to this place which was near her job, one weekend when I was in town. I liked the setup, where you fit as much food as you can inside the bowl they give you, then you pick your sauce and tell them how to cook the food. It was easy enough, and even the most discerning critic (our Dad) enjoyed his meal. They had some beer and wine choices, but since we were gonna be headed back on the road for 9 hours, I passed on drinking. I know, when I'm in town, I'll try this place again.

Lots of choices, meat, seafood, vegtables, spices and sauces.

I was very disappointed in our experience at Genghis Grill and will not be returning. Ultimately, the food did taste good, and I enjoyed the grilling of my shrimp. BUT the layout of the restaurant, it's noise level, how you go about ordering, the lack of the server explaining how the process of ordering of your food works (and not even passing out any menus to look ahead at all your options), are all too much to make me ever want to return. Also, I really, really think they need to - at the very least - keep all the "protein" items out of reach of the public. The thought of the raw chicken, etc., being dripped along the counter, landing in other food bins, all the hands (little kid and otherwise) who end up with raw chicken drips on them from passing through the buffet-style ingredients line really, really grossed me out. Then every single plastic number card we were given so the servers knew what bowl went to what table, had sticky, gooey leftover food and sauce on it. After inserting the plastic number cards into the holder on the table, I had to wash my hands they were so gross.

  • Chris M.

Gross on so many levels. Pass.

This GG is far superior to the last one I went to, so I was pleasantly surprised when I actually got good service. We were seated immediately, the line wasn't too long, everything was clean, and we got our food quickly. My wife was a little disappointed in the light portion of noodles she got, but my dish was exactly what I had asked for. The bathroom left a little to be desired, as they always seem to when I go to GG, and I'm not sure why.

Love the food! Always fresh and cooked perfect. Waiter's are always friendly. However, during our visit today the grill master was pretty rude. No smile just a hateful look when I handed him my plate. I felt like I was inconveniencing him although I smiled and politely told him what 2 options I wanted. Very hateful icy stare from the grill master ( older Caucasian male, large build). Other than that great visit.

Service was excellent. Food was great. The place was too loud. Free wifi. I enjoyed an episode of Rectify while I ate today. You have tons of diet-friendly options here. Seafood or poultry, with healthy veggies - onions, squash, zucchini, green beans, carrots, spinach to name a few - along with brown rice for high fiber good starch rather than white rice or noodles. I REALLY appreciate the brown rice and other healthy foods here. The noise was really distracting but I'm going 5 stars anyway since I had on a headset for the show. That does say something about just how loud it is though - a headset and I still heard all the noise.

The food was fine however the restroom was a bit dirty with overflowing trash in the receptacle & the worst part was the toilet didn't flush. Totally turned off. I will not be returning to this location.

I was in the mood for a pile of protein and we had a buy one get one free coupon from the Memphis City Saver book. We had been before and the place was pretty messy, but chalked it up as a one-off. Everyone can have a bad day, right? Fool me once... Dirty bathroom - I mean to the point where I went and told someone that it needed attention. She was like... why? I am not describing here exactly why and I wouldn't want to paint that picture in front of the other diners just before I am about to eat. We had very slow service. The drinks weren't on the table when we came back from making our bowls. 15 mins we waited from the time we got the check to when the server came to pick it up. When we paid, the coupon wasn't honored because we got "regular" size bowls and the coupons were for 10oz.... which I assume means the small as there was no conversion chart between the menu and the coupon. 30.00 for the two of us for basically the novelty of picking our own ingredients. Mine always end up tasting the same no matter what I put in ... so I think I am over it.

  • Velnest B.

I like the idea of fresh food and adding what I want to my meal. I usually have take out. This time I dined in. Concept basically the same. You still prepare your own bowl. Service has always been good.

    (4)
  • Paul C.

Genghis Grill is pretty much your basic Mongolian grill. You go through the line and pick your meats, veggies, sauces, and starch(rice, noodles, etc). The ingredients itself was pretty good quality, and the cooks aren't too shabby. The atmosphere is laid back, and this particular location has a bar too! Our server was really attentive and very good in general. AYCE is 12.99 for dinner but you can get just one bowl for 9.99. Really, one bowl is all you need, but if you want to get a variety of food the AYCE option is great for 3 dollars more!

  • CC D.

I had a really good experience here. I've been to other GG locations. Once to the Poplar at I-240 location for dine-in and found it to be loud and unpleasant. And once to the Winchester at Hacks Cross location for carry-out but I walked out empty-handed because the bartender wouldn't turn around to take my order - kept counting and recounting her cash for her till even though the store had been open for at least 15 minutes (that's the kind of thing you take care of before the store opens). Anyway, this time was great. This store seems quieter than the others and less frantic. But maybe that's just the timing. The server was also great. Which was also better than the time before. These factors could just be dumb luck or maybe this store just has a better manager than the other stores. All I know is that I'll just stick with this location in the future. I do find the process a little annoying. But it gets easier the more you go. I feel like if I go again, I'll feel right at home. But all that really matters is the food and I thought it was great. And a pretty good deal. I got a regular bowl and stuck with water to drink. The bowl seems small at first, but you can cram a lot into it!

  • Edward H.

Went to GG a year ago for the first time, and it awesome bc it was unique - tasting sauce cups; manager giving out a short spiel on how to go through the line. Went back a month ago and it's gone downhill quickly. It's sadly lost its uniqueness and I believe management lost its ability to care. The place was messy. Food was mixed in wrong containers. There's no quality control check. This is all sad bc I use to talk to friends about GG like its the next best thing. Now I don't think I'll ever go back unless I hear differently.

  • Sandy J.

Horrible service. Our family went for dinner and all left hungry and upset. We are used to one sauce we use for our dish and pointed out to the cook that it seemed like the sauce was thinner in consistency and tasted different. He told us it was the same. Once we received our dishes we had a salty mess. This teriyaki was salty and a nasty mess. The manager told us to put a honey sauce over top to cut the salt. It was horrible. We didn't even get a discount. Sad. They lost good customers. The excuse I got was that they couldn't get the original sauce ordered so they went with a different brand....smh

  • Scott T.

For the money you don't get as much as the Gremantown Grand buffet as they have a grill as well as many other choices... You pick you favs and they cook it. My main complaint is that the scallops are so small that they are ALWAYS over cooked and like pellets. The best way to pack your bowl is to start withe the vegetables and then meat on top -- you definitely get MORE in the bowl! Service is not great as you do most of the work yourself! It is OK - I only go because my kids think it's great.

    (3)
  • Mike R.

Food was good but why is music so loud?

    (4)
  • Kyle S.

Cool concept! You make your own stir fry bowl and they have tons of really tasty choices. Shrimp, scallops, sausage, chicken, even pepperoni! You even pick from a wide variety of seasonings and sauces. I had a monster bowl that seemed like it had a little bit of everything and went with fried rice for the starch selection. It was delicious! I felt like it was really cheap for the quality and amount of food that you get. My bowl, along with a drink was right at $10. Can't beat it..

    (4)
  • Ben B.

I like this place. You pick every little thing that goes into your bowl from a buffet style bar, even down to the sauce. You then hand it to a cook for him to cook your food. Therefore, if you'r meal isn't good, then its probably your own fault.

    (4)
  • Reid R.

Good food, but the place has a raw meat smell and sticky floors, it's pretty nasty.

    (3)
  • Everette B.

We surprised them with a party of 10. Accommodated us pretty quickly on a Friday night. I never ate here before and the server did a great job of educated me on how it worked. She gave a tip that "It is easy to over season your food so be careful." I didn't learn this the hard way but one of my friends did. The food was amazing. Though, as mentioned before it is easy to mess up your order too if you don't pay attention to what you're adding. Use some sense when you're mixing your foods.

  • Tom C.

We won't be returning here again. We have about 4 free bowl coupons because of terrible experiences, and will never use them. The service is Sub-Par, and the food is right there with it. I've been here 3 times trying to give it a chance, but just can't like it. It's always crowded, and honestly, overpriced compared to better Mongolian stir fry places I've been.

    (1)
  • Ben H.

Genghis has a great concept: put whatever ingrediants you want in a bowl, then they stir fry it and bring it to you. The food tastes great (provided you don't mix things that don't go together) and the price is reasonable considering the quality. The only downside is that there is usually a wait (5-10 minutes to sit, then another 10-15 to go through the line), but the place is relatively new and very popular. Hopefully with more locations opening up and the newness wearing off, the wait time will decrease.

  • Carol M.

I found it a little hard to believe that no one else has been just a little grossed out by the raw meat lollying behind the plexi. Not to mention that I had to use short plastic tongs to fetch it....ewwww!! Once I regrouped, the experience took a more positive turn. I must say I was a bit intimidated by the choices of seasonings and sauces. I learned (after the fact) about the so-called "cheat sheets" that help with the process. I will definitely be utilizing those on my next visit. All in all, the food was good, the atmosphere was fun and friendly and the experience was something a bit out of the ordinary for Memphis.

  • Jolynna M.

This is definitely a unique type of restaurant, but one that I really enjoyed. The food was great, atmosphere really fun and good for the family too. As others have already mentioned, you can build your own bowl or go with one of their suggestions. I opted for the Thai Chicken bowl. It came with stir fry vegetables, rice, chicken and a very yummy red curry peanut sauce. Delicious! And best part - it was low fat and fairly low in calories. It's nice to enjoy your meal and know it's healthy as well. I went pretty early for dinner on a week night, so didn't have to wait. I understand it does get busy during peak times.

    (4)
  • Roberto N.

It's been open about 2-3 weeks, and is completely packed already. Dinner is all you can eat, you make up the contents, 9.99. The staff, and the restaurant, is fresh, clean, friendly, slightly spartan interior, yet still nicer than a lot of Mongolian places I've eaten at over the years. You'l enjoy it.... but come early or late!

    (4)
  • Cortez W.

This is definitely one of the hottest restaurants in town. I find it to be unique. I like the way, we as customers, get to build our food up ourselves. They have several meat choosings, season & herbs, and sauces. Its also very healthy eatings. The location is small, so I recommend going throughout the day because it is super crowded usually after 6pm.

There's a place in Chicago just like Genghis. It's called Flat Top Grill, and while I adore it, I seriously had a panic attack on my first trip. Luckily for me, I had already done the panic mode and found myself right at home in Genghis. I am a weird eater, and most often have to ask them to leave out items that reside in my menu ordered food. At Genghis, I get to choose what goes in my bowl. Just me- no one else! I choose my protein, season my protein, pick my veggies, then my sauce and then my starch. It's like making stir fry at home without all the hassle. I love stir fry, and it never fails that my husband and I always butt heads on what veggies we want and whether we should go for noodles or rice. This is a much cheaper way to do stir fry, and it is also great for those watching their waistline. It is a pretty healthy option and no one has to know you're dieting. As an added bonus, this place is super cheap. It's about $10 bucks for an unlimited bowl option. I've spent way more than that comprising my own stir fry to make at home.

Not great, nor terrible. Genghis grill offers a very unique dining experience for the Memphis area. Diners select their choice of several different types of meat, veggies, spices, sauces, and "carbs" (noodles, rice, fried rice etc.) to create their own unique dish. Their are literally millions of combinations to create due to the plethora of ingredients and amounts of seasonings. Grill masters take diners creations and stir fry them while diners wait at their table. For less adventurous diners, Genghis grill offers recipe cards for diners to follow to ensure a more controlled dining experience. While the experience is incredibly fun and unique, the food is not especially noteworthy. The dishes themselves are satisfying, but the time and money involved in the experience makes it more of a novelty rather than an exceptional meal. The efficiency of the restaurant itself is questionable. During my visits it has taken upwards of 15 minutes of waiting to get seated and upwards of half an hour to begin food selection in order to get the meal cooking. The waitresses and cooking staff are all very nice folks, and the service is excellent. I would recommend going to Genghis Grill with friends as a fun outing, not for dining. You will enjoy the time spent at Genghis Grill, but you will be disappointed at the value of the food.

Have eaten here several times and the food has always been great. Today we went for lunch and the restaurant was freezing. We complained to the waitress and she said she was also cold, but they could not do anything about it. We decided to eat on the patio. Our food came and one entree delivered was not even close to what we had prepared, rice instead of noodles, etc. The person who delivered the food said the food matched our number and was quite rude. We were given another bowl, but the line was about 15 people long. Since we were on a lunch hour, we left and don't know if we will be back.

Great food! But be careful about idiots in front of you. Witnessed two jerk cramming raw chicken in the bowls with their bare hands. Then proceeded to touch all the following utensils. Reported to waitress and she never told the manager until I asked for him. 30 or 40 people went through the line touching the utensils. Manager did not change utensils until I got him to our table to tell him he had to or people will be sick. We were fortunate to see it and used purell.

Went here today for lunch. It was busy, but there was no wait. Great selection of meats, veggies and sauces. The food was really great and the service was also good. The only thing, was the the manager was yelling out orders like "hurry up", etc, etc and seemed pissed off to me. It was pretty unprofessional, especially when the staff was clearly already doing a great job. Probably an isolated incident, but if you read this, chill out around customers, manager dude.

my kids have so much fun here. they get a kick being able to pick out what ever they want. it's a hit or miss tho depending on how you season and mix your sauces. the 2 times i've been here i thought my bowl was pretty blah. but my husbands was delicious. he doesn't even remember how he made his so the 2nd time we went his was just ok. lol. we like to get the noodles or white rice because the fried rice tend to be mushy or the texture is just off. the tiny bowl you get seem like it's too small at first but the end product gets me full every time. worth the money if you get the unlimited bowl for $10. i'm surprised some people complained about not getting very good instructions when the waitresses for us was always very helpful and always took their time to explain what to do.

This place is great! Love the concept. Atmosphere was very comfortable, service was top notch. O yea.. the food was very tasty. If it's not tasty, well that's your fault. You well see what I mean when you go.. which is a MUST.

Definitely a cool concept. Food was good. Only downside is that when it gets busy, the wait for food can get long. It took us about 15 minutes to get our food after going through the line. Due to the size of the grill, there is only so fast they can go. They were working at full tilt from when we got there to when we left.

Good tasting food. Quick and easy, pick your meat, veggies, seasoning and sauce then give it to the chef and pick a starch (such as rice or noodles) then go to your table and wait until your bowl is delivered. The rest is history!!!!

My friend took us here during our time in Memphis, and it was quite enjoyable. You get seated at a table and then they give you a bowl and you walk up to this food bar line and place food in your bowl and at the end of the line they will cook/stir-fry it for you while you go back to your table and wait. Pretty much like a Mongolian bbq that you see at a Chinese buffet. It was my first time here so I wasn't sure how it worked so I got in line and your first choice is the meats/seafood which is raw and you put whatever you want in your bowl. They had a good selection of meats and seafood consisting of chunks of beef, sliced beef, pork, chicken, scallops, calamari, shrimp, etc. After you pick your meat you can season it with the spices they have and then you add the veggies which they have a good selection of. Well of course being my first time here and being blinded by the meats my bowl was pretty much full of meat and had very little space for my veggies. :( I did manage to squeeze some veggies and an egg in though. So after you pick your veggies you pick your sauce you want them to cook your stuff in. There were a lot of varieties of sauces to choose from and there are little hits under the name of the sauces to help you choose. Well I chose like 5 different sauces and mixed them together. After sauces you choose your starch which ranges from white rice, brown rice, noodles, and etc. Then after you have chosen your starch, you give your bowl to them and they'll give you a number so the waiter would know which one was yours. The food was cooked fairly quick and I found my meal very good. I'll probably come back to this establishment again. It's a chain so I need to find one near me.
