I'll admit it, I'm a creature of habit. Rarely, and I mean very rarely, do I order anything other than the crawfish étouffée - why would I? It's delicious, consistently satisfying and attractively priced. Case closed. But yesterday I had the good fortune to attend a family BBQ where wings were featured as an appetizer. They were very tasty, and I had to hold back embarrassing myself by not eating the whole plate. So today, as I approached the Court Deli, I decided to skip the étouffée and satisfy my wing craving. I wasn't disappointed - the Blackened Voodoo preparation lit up my tongue, lips and brain with salty goodness that lingers even as I type this review. I may have to reconsider that steady diet of étouffée - just saying...

After walking by this place for the last 2 years or so and smelling this wonderful aroma I finally stopped in to try it out! I got the French Dip and crawfish etouffee to go because it was super crowded inside. The wait wasn't that long and after I placed my order they had it ready in no time. Now the French dip was wonderful!!! Covered with cheese and onions and the bread was perfectly toasted. I was slightly disappointed in the etouffee : / I am not crazy about the dark etouffee... spicy, yes it was, my mouth is still feeling it. Needed more crawfish and even rice... I will definitely return for some of their other sandwiches. There's tons to choose from plus the staff, although busy little bees, were super nice!!!

The club sandwich hits the spot every time I eat it. The friends I eat with enjoy the burgers as well, even though I haven't tried them. They include the price with tax on the menu, so at least you know what you're paying up front.

This place is a mainstay in downtown Memphis when it comes to lunch time dining. Even better, it is locally owned. Even better, the owner is the one serving the food day in and day out. The entire staff is courteous, helpful, and downright awesome. They have pretty much everything you would expect from a deli - sandwiches consisting of every type of cold cut combination with cheese and fixings to go with it. They also have some unexpected options in the form of étouffée, gumbo, and Cajun chili. There is a blackened chicken sandwich that is truly awesome. They also serve burgers and fries, made to order, if that strikes your fancy while dining here. Finally, don't forget their salads. The portions are huge, ingredients are fresh (an obvious must for salads), and they have several different options. Don't let the long line fool you when you walk into this restaurant. The line will move exceptionally fast. Additionally, the long line should reassure you that this place serves an outstanding meal, as evidenced by the numerous people that flow in and out of this place on a daily basis.

This might be my favorite cheap lunch downtown. I probably go here about once every 2 weeks for lunch, and have never been disappointed in the service or my food. The place itself is unspectacular in terms of its size or atmosphere, but it's lunch and you just want to eat a good lunch and not listen to Sharon from accounting talk about her grandchildren anymore, so this is perfect. This place can get pretty busy right around 12, and don't be surprised to see a line wrapping around the entire place. However, they keep things moving fast while still being friendly and not rushing people into ordering. Most people who've been there more than a few times have a go-to favorite anyways, and they keep things moving. One thing to be aware of is that they are cash only. Most combos are only $7.50 for a sandwich, chips/ fries/ brownie/, and a drink. My favorite sandwich of theirs is the blackened buffalo chicken sandwich. They are the only place in Memphis that I've found that does anything properly "Buffalo" style. The sandwich is a good size, the toppings are properly portioned, and it goes great with some Voodoo chips. I've also had the reuben, it is also the cat's pajamas but I can't resist the blackened buffalo chicken. Note to Memphis - Buffalo chicken tenders and/ or sandwiches aren't just dumping Frank's Red Hot on something. There's actually a Frank's Red Hot made specifically for wings, sandwiches, and tenders. It's essentially the same as the original, but with butter and some other stuff thrown in. USE THIS. IF I EAT ONE MORE BUFFALO TENDER SOAKED IN ONLY THE REGULAR FRANK'S RED HOT WITH NO SEASONING I'M GOING TO GO SUPER-GRIZZ ON SOMEONE. .... Sorry about that. Anyways, thank you Court House Deli for making a great sandwich.

Yep, it's good. Hot sausage po boy was yummy and inexpensive, and the gumbo did not disappoint. Four stars for the taste to cost ratio...

If you walk into the Court House Deli in downtown Memphis around noon on any given day, don't be surprised if you find 30 or more folks already in line, waiting to place their orders and delve into the familiar culinary goodness. Don't turn around though! Find your place at the end and wait your turn- the faithful Court House Deli employees move so quickly and efficiently, you'll be shocked to find yourself at the order counter before you're even through perusing the menu. Salads are a favorite of mine, served fresh, with plenty of dressing and crackers on the side. Choose from Chef, Greek, Grilled Chicken or Greek Grilled Chicken. The helping is plentiful, heaped with plenty of meat, tomato, boiled egg, and cheese. Only around $5, this is one of the best salad deals in the city, and since I work downtown, I partake of it often. I also love the shrimp seafood salad sandwich, chicken salad croissant, and mushroom/swiss hamburger. Grab a side of chips, crispy fries or chocolate brownie or cake plus a drink and you've got yourself a meal deal that not only tastes delicious but also won't break the bank. Patrons may also dine on other menu items including tasty Cajun fare like red beans & rice, gumbo, etoufee and jumbalaya. As far as ambiance, I hope you like UT football and Elvis Presley, because you'll find plenty of old newspaper clippings adorning the walls, touting both Tennessee legends. Eat inside, or dine outside right along Main Street if the weather is nice. Hard to beat prices, excellent service, and great food. I've seen plenty of downtown restaurants come and go. I hope this one is here to stay.

The menu has your every day burgers and sandwiches, but they also have a Cajun list as well. As much as we all love Cajun food, we stuck to the sandwiches. Scott and Casey got a burger and fries, and I settled for the Blackened Chicken Sandwich. The guys ordered fries, but I didn't. The gentleman cooking all of the food was super nice and apparently didn't want me to feel left out, so he gave me fries on the side anyway. There is no dining space inside, so patrons have the option on sitting outside on the plastic patio tables or taking their food to go. Scott and Casey said their burgers were pretty good. However, my chicken sandwich was awesome. It was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. It seems that, more often than not, these hole-in-the-wall, diner-like places seem to have the best food. This place fit along those lines. Overall, this place has a super-friendly staff and good food. If I was downtown more frequently during the day, I would be back. This place mainly caters to the business lunch crowd, as they are only open until 3pm every day.

Best deal in town. Great staff, excellent food, fast service. It is no wonder they have so many fans. If the line looks long, no worries, it moves fast as the staff is efficient and generous. Every sandwich on their menu is my favorite now, so the decision is difficult. The cajun food is over the top awesome. For $7.50 you get much more than your moneys worth. The space is narrow and old building, but pleasant. A wonderful meal indeed.

Solid lunch place. The Burgers and Poboys are good. Price is hard to beat, plus you'll probably see someone there you know. I like that... sometimes.

I was on jury duty one day, and I did some research of the restaurants. I wanted to try something different other than Subway and Lenny's, but affordable. I came across Courthouse Deli. I went there and the line was fairly long (came in at about 12:15). I ordered the Cheddar Burger, Fries, and Drink for $8.50, which is a great price. The food was good, the burger was flavorable and the fries were cooked to perfection. Seated is limited, so if you're planning to eat in the restaurant, get there early. They also have outdoor seating, which I took advantage of. Also, I hope that you like the Tennessee Vols and Peyton Manning. They have memorabilia. The place is very clean. Bottom line, it's a great place to get some lunchtime grub. I might try the Philly Cheesesteak next time.

I eat here 4 times a month at least for lunch. Is the food equivalent to the French Laundry? No, but who in their right mind would go in this place expecting a gourmet experience? Court House Deli has good, cheap, fast, consistent food. Curious what they have? Well, they have pretty much everything you could ask for in a lunch spot. Sandwiches; burgers; salads; and a host of stews/soups served daily (red beans/rice; gumbo; etc.). They do not have meat & three; sushi; fried chicken; spaghetti with meatballs or the like. The price is right; $7 for a sandwich combo includes a sandwich, drink and either chips or a cookie. The burgers are good. The place is locally owned. They offer free refills. They serve their food with a smile. I give it 3 stars, but I regularly and consistently choose it for lunches while working because I can quickly get it to go, eat at my desk, and am never disappointed. So it's at the top end of the 3 star places, and if they had half stars, it would be 3 1/2. Try it if you are looking for this type of meal.

This is a solid lunch choice. Prices are on the cheaper side and the food is great for the price. I usually order and enjoy the blackened chicken sandwich or blackened chicken salad (yum). I've also tried the gumbo and it was decent. It's a great choice for lunch if you are downtown and don't want to spend more than $10. There is always a line during the lunch rush but they have a great system that moves people out quickly so don't let the line through you off. The cooks and staff are really friendly and waiting isn't a hassle because of it. There isn't much seating so most people usually take their food to go and then if you get lucky enough to snag a seat outside you can stay or just eat elsewhere. A few quirks - it's only open for lunch since it caters to downtown workers. Also, they only take cash or at least they did last time I went. That might still be the case or they might take cards now but just in case... take cash.
