Bucanas is tucked away in a shopping center in Berclair area on Summer Ave. It is a large restaurant with full bar and stage and decor for a nightclub and restaurant. The service is good and helpful; the setting is clean and inviting. You can sit up to 6-8 in a large booth. Their Bucanas dip is a great mix of cheese and meat. They have a wide array of choices on the menu and The molcajete is as described on the menu as "chicken, steak and shrimp cooked with cactus leaves, chorizo, cheese and onions in a spicy sauce." It is fun and filling.

The food was "okay," I've had better and I just wanted to give this place a try. Cheese was a bit thick for my taste...just too much cheese all around. I got myself a chimicanga, and to my surprise...they put cheese in it too...kind of weird lol. The place was nice, a lot of space. However, their salsa has quite a kick to it. The waitress was nice and the place was clean. Overall, the food was okay and I might not give it another try...since memphis has other mexican restaurant that has better food. :-/

My bf recently moved here from California and has been very underwhelmed by our Mexican food. I had heard this place was a little more authentic so I was willing to give it a try. We got a cheese dip which the bf liked, he things others in town in too watery , I was ok with it. The pico that I ordered with my tacos was too heavy on the cilantro for my taste but the bf approved as being more authentic. Sadly the tacos were very bland and the bfs combo meal was the same as other places in town. With two non alcoholic beverages we spent $38 with tax and tip, a bit much for Mexican in my opinion. Las Delicious holds onto its crown as the best in town. The majority if the space seems to be set up as a banquet hall and they have about 8 booths for the restaurant portion.

I should have read the other reviews before I parked. Unfortunately, the food is pretty forgettable. My server was attentive and pleasant, but I will not return to Bucanas. there are too many tasty Mexican spots nearby.

CLOSED Saw Bucanas today while driving down Summer and just had to try it tonight. As anybody who follows me knows, I like my authentic Mexican food. It's much more inside than one would think looking at the front door. Large, open, and fairly well finished out inside with a large stage in the rear. It's not your typical karaoke stage but more a stage for full on bands. We were the only customers when we walked in and after a couple blank stares we were greeted by a very nice lady who showed us to a table. The menu is quite extensive and covered most of the basics but seems a little more on the Americanized side. It did have some odd items liked baked potatoes. We had cheese dip, guacamole, and a molcajete. The cheese dip was OK but had a filler taste, not like it was just cheese and peppers. The guac was fresh and good but nothing amazing. The molcajate was good. Steak, chicken breast, a little chorizo, shrimp, noplales, green onions and queso with a pretty standard red pepper sauce. It was all cooked well and the sauce had a good consistency and flavor. The place has the feeling like it could be kickin on a Saturday night. the food was good and the service was good. I will try it again and let them continue to work out the kinks of a new restaurant/bar/club.

If anyone thinks that adding last-minute stipulations to a Groupon which is essentially a contract like "everyone MUST order a beverage...", please go listen to the false rhetoric. It's not like we were not going to spend the required amount. They just wanted to ensure "extras" were worked in. Well, guess what? That's not what your GROUPON SAID! If you want a laundry list of requirements for patrons to use a coupon, list them! Garbage...or...!BASURA! Now, I will be totally honest about the food...AVERAGE AT BEST.

I have been here half a dozen times. Sometimes the food is ok, more often lately, not. Went yesterday for lunch, and my companion and I had our regular orders. His had rice, mine did not. He complained that the rice tasted funny. I tasted it and found it to be spoiled. Everything else was acceptable. When we checked out, we told the manager that the rice was spoiled. She said there was a new cook. I repeated that the rice was spoiled, not to serve it to anyone as they might get sick. She asked how I knew. I told her to taste it, and see for herself. She took full payment, offered no apology and went back to the table where she was sitting, and did not even bother to follow up on the issue. If they don't care enough to even taste and check what they are serving, I don't care enough to return.

Just ate here and had a groupon for 14$ worth of mexican food for 2 for the price of 7$, but they did not honor anything the groupon had to offer. They claimed we had to buy separate meals and drinks as well.... So, way more $ then trying to spend. The waitress also gave off a bad vibe. But looks like chipendales will be dancing there at the end of the month!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
