I eat here just about any time I'm craving a good burger. My experiences here have always been good, the food excellent, and the service great. However, there are some expectations I think one should manage: * The setting is much like a fast-food joint. Don't expect fine dining, folks. * The soda fountain was often out of many of the drinks. Last time I was there, they had replaced the touch screen fountain with a traditional one. * They are a bit pricey. In my opinion, you get what you pay for, others probably feel it's a bit too expensive. Who doesn't love a good burger? I have searched all over the greater Memphis area for great burgers. Sometimes I've been pleased, other times I've been disappointed. I think this is the only burger place that constantly satisfies me. I highly recommend the Wellington.

Had an hour to burn before a movie, and the gang thought this would be a good experience. Great flavors, simple concept, profit margin a tad excessive! Being in the industry and knowing food cost tends to make it difficult going out. Everyone should experience this operation once. If your on a budget and expecting a cost effective meal and think burgers and fries will be an easy on the wallet meal think again...stay home and grill it yourself! Note to management: Just because your business has the word joint in it doesn't mean you can slack on appearance and cleanliness. 3stars for the flavors Wish this group the best of luck! You got my one time monetary donation! Lesson learned!

First timer here. Food is excellent. Chef (Me) approved status. Jermaine n his crew doing it up. Really nice. Very friendly. Almost like eating at home. I give it UP!

Came in with high expectations due to their affiliation with the national BGR chain. Quickly met at the counter and my order was taken. Great staff interaction. Burger and fries hit the counter within 5-7 minutes. Was properly dressed and exactly as ordered. Cooked to a perfect moist medium rare with excellent exterior char and seasoning. The quality of the beef (prime dry aged) was very evident. The toppings (caramelized onions, grilled jalepenos, organic tomatoes, Provolone cheese) were quite good but didn't overwhelm the hero of the burger, the patty. Very impressive burger, probably the best I've had in town. Oshi is a lot more creative with toppings, but the patty doesn't hold a candle to the one at BGR. Fries were good thick square cut steak-style... Cooked fairly crisp. Props on having malt vinegar for them. Great chow guys.. Keep it up.

My family and I ate here only as a second choice because the Chipotle next door was packed! Even after briefly reading reviews I stilled stayed optimistic. As we walked in and I saw 3 people eating I should have ran! The ordering process was confusing. Some burgers could be made into a combo but others couldn't. This place is extremely overpriced. For 3 burgers and a kids meal it was $40! The place was (sort of) clean. Pft, but had crazy wobbly tables. #irritating The burgers were so unbelievably salty. fries were soggy. Ugh, McDonald's is better. So long story short, we won't be back!

It's been a while since I've been there, but I did like BGR. Good burger but very messy. The buns are too small for the burger and all the toppings they put on it, and on top of that the sauces put on make it even messier. The fries were good. However, since this restaurant is in a very busy business/shopping area, it usually has a lot of traffic going in/out around lunch. My wife goes there a lot and likes it pretty well. I will say that for what you get I feel they are pretty overpriced. There are a lot of good burgers for under $10 out there and really I don't think this place stacks up to them.

70% of sodas were out on Coca Cola Fusion drink machine. Ran to restroom to wash my hands before eating and room hadn't been serviced in a while and towels were out. The gent at the counter explained the holder's lock was broken so he couldn't refill it. Two basic items for a restaurant and fail on both. The bill for burger, fries and drink was a bit high and everything was too salty. I think I'll wait in line at Chipotle next time.

Best burger I've had so far in Memphis. Very tasty and juice. I achieved total food coma status (TFCS) very easily hear and it was difficult to go shopping w my girlfriend after.

I've given this place too many chances. Yesterday was the last straw. After waiting 30 minutes from order to food delivery, the medium burger I ordered was practically still mooing. My friends was the opposite, burnt and well done. The floors were sticky and disgusting and you could tell the staff takes little pride in the appearance of the restaurant. Overall I would like to give bgr a half a star.

Originally, we had the intention of going to Chitpotle which is next door, but their line was too long so we decided to check out BGR. The service from the cashier was excellent. She realized we were new and helped us with our orders. I decided to get a salad with the seared tuna, and I think it would have been better if the portion size was bigger. They had some issue with the delivery truck which prevented me from getting mixed greens. I was fine with romaine, but it was a small portion and was about $15 (sit down restaurant prices). My coworker commented that his meal was ok. When I looked at his portion, it seemed to be lacking as well. I am fine with smaller portions, but in return I look for higher quality or lower price. The meal just didn't justify the price.

Had a burger with pepper jack, avocado, and sautéed jalapeños. It was cooked a perfect rare and topped with their spicy sauce. Perfect fries. Fun, casual atmosphere.

Went to lunch here today with a group from work. The food was great. I had a cheeseburger with cheddar and fries. Others had various burger toppings and onion rings. No complaints only praises about the food. It was like sauna in the restaurant but we attributed that to the ever changing Memphis weather. It's hard to adjust the thermostat for a 20 degree difference in temps--from 30 degree weather yesterday to 50 degree weather today.

I came in today for lunch and was looking forward to a good juicy burger. For the most part, I wasn't disappointed. I ordered "The Wellington" which includes (per the menu), roasted mushrooms, grilled onions, black truffles and bleu cheese crumbles. I opted for American cheese in lieu of bleu cheese as I'm not a fan of penicillin riddled cheese. Lol. I ordered mine medium rare as any good burger should be. In all fairness to restaurants everywhere, if you order a burger "medium well" or "well done" and complain of it being burnt, you deserve a shovel to the head. My burger was good - well seasoned and flavorful. I do think though that the "black truffles" are not so much fresh as canned and in a gravy like sauce. My complaints are two-fold. 1) The price. My burger, fries and drink fetched $12.xx. I don't mind paying that if I feel I'm getting good value. This isn't it. Which leads me to point two. 2) The order of fries costs a little less than $3 and is less than a handful. Additionally, mine were overcooked. If you're charging $3 for fries, they better be in a basket overflowing into my plate. Consensus? Best burger: No. But it's good. Best value: Not a chance. Would I return? Maybe. Which is why it got three stars. Overvalued food and under portioned servings relative to price.

My husband recommended I check this place out when I told him I wanted some really good french fries. He said they also had veggie burgers. I'm vegetarian so I wasn't thrilled when he said I should give this place a try. Reluctantly, I went in and almost turned right around bc, of course, being a burger place...it smelled like burgers. Although, I really wanted those fries! LOL. Place was clean, employees were friendly. Veggie burger was good...but more importantly the fries were GREAT!!

Ridiculously expensive ridiculously small burgers. Nothing was stocked. No ice, lids, ketchup cups etc. Definitely not coming back.

    (1)
  • William P.

So BGR no longer has the great burgers that I enjoyed when it first opened up. The employees seem discontent with the happiness of the guest. I don't know why this company has changed their menu but I don't believe I will be going back unless I have the need for pricey decent burger.

  • Kelly H.

Our first visit to BGR. We were a little put off by the fast casual ordering, but we ordered a veggie burger, a grilled chicken and some fries to split. This is definitely a work a rant - they called us up to pick up our beers and our order. My veggie burger was burnt and the liberal addition of the ketchup and mayo only made things worse. I did manage to try the unburnt portion and I did not care for the veggie burger. The spouse was similarly unimpressed with the chicken. The fries were excellent, but fries are not enough to save the meal. Not a fan

  • Irene R.

A decent tasting burger, but overpriced for what you get. A small handful of fries for $3 and slow as hell service. Toppings on my burger were forgotten. It just wasn't worth the money we paid. Very dissapointing on a whole.

  • Latrice P.

My go to is the Wellington. Always cooked to my liking. Not a major fan of the sliders. Service is quick and staff very friendly. Call-in orders are always accurate and right on time.

This was by far one of the worst experiences I have ever had. The meat was over cooked and had no flavor. I liked the open grill concept but the cook was destroying the burger by smashing all of the juices out. A definite no no..! And to make matters worse, the prep guy was eating fries out the bowl that they were giving customer fries to! I was watching him so I spoke when I knew he had a mouth full and all he could do was smile. This was my first experience here but it put a very bad taste in my mouth about coming back.

  • Charlie B.

Pretty good burger, but a little pricey if you ask me. Here's what I got: a burger with cheese (costs extra), avocado (costs extra), and a slice of pineapple (costs extra). This costed 10 bucks because of the $3 in arguable up charges. I'd rather go to a place where they have specialty burgers with unique toppings where I'm not charged for everything other than lettuce, pickles, and onions (so Huey's, Wimpy's, or even Five Guys).

    (3)

4 burgers and drinks over 50$. Burgers come out and the look like happy meal burgers.small and lifeless.

I've now been to TBJ three times. I feel like if you have a bad experience once you should try it again as anyone and everyone will have a bad day. So, three times and three really rude experiences. I'm okay with the "hipster" attitude but when it blooms into "we don't care if you come here or not" and "your order is not important enough for me to get off the phone and cook it" I get frustrated. The owner, Jay is nice at times but seems to just not care if he has business or not. We have had non-stop ice and sleet for a few days. My son and I need to get out and so we decided to go over and have a burger. At 12:15pm we seemed to be the first in for lunch. I began ordering and was stopped mid-speech and told I had to slow down and just answer his questions. Okay. No problem. My $8.99 burger special somehow came out to $24 including tip when my order was completed. While waiting on our burgers, we went over to the all in one soda machine and attempted to get our drinks. The carbonation mix was not correct so I attempted to get Jay to get off of the phone long enough to answer my concern. 10 minutes later, AFTER we had our food, he finally went over and worked on the machine. It never got right. We were not offered refunds for the drinks. We were not offered an apology. NOTHING was offered. The food was okay but nothing is worth the poor attitude, ungrateful attention and ineptness experienced by these guys. I've been to the Burger Joint for the last time. Oh yea, on a positive note: the frozen french fries were great, as was the Hunts ketchup in the bottle.

When you take something that was developed and run by a passionate entrepreneur, then you franchise it and locate it 1000 miles away, this is what you get. Not had if you've never seen it done right in DC - a cute little burger joint with a superior product

I wouldn't recommend this place. While the food is ok and the menu has a few unique items the place is filthy. I have been here 3 times and it seems to get worse each time. Crusty condiment bottles, no napkins, sticky drink machine, tables, and chairs. Seem to always be out of a lot things also.

  • Led D.

The place has changed a lot. The corporate decided to change its menu and made it simpler. They have also lessen the burger from eight ounce to seven ounce and still paying for the same price. I feel so cheated!!! At least Burger King lets you "Have it your own way!" No more Cuban with bacon burger or Greek burger, so I guess my son and I will not be coming back anytime soon. They had great fries too, but it look less. Maybe corporate did it. Too bad!!

So, we;re on our way to Genghis Grill. We walk in and the place is packed. I didn't feel like dining with a crowd, so we strolled down the sidewalk in search of someplace less populated. We walked into BGR and saw that they had turkey burgers. I got the Turkey, My husband got the Greek. Both burgers were very good. If you are a turkey burger eater (like I am) you know that they are often bland and thoughtless. Not here, the turkey burger has gorgonzola and mushrooms in the patty. It is seasoned to perfection and makes you feel like its from a fancy place with cloth tablecovers. The Greek, a lamb-burger with cucumber, tomato, and a little mint is also an excellent choice. The asparagus was perfect and the fries were okay.

I really enjoyed the burgers that BGR had, they were a little pricey but it was supper yummy and I loved the fact they made the onion rings and fries fresh!

First time here and I ordered the Monday - Friday box special. I got my burger, fries and drink for 8.99 plus I added bacon and cheese. Before getting my food I peeked into the kitchen and thought it could be cleaner, mainly the fryer area. The food came out in a timely manner. I order my burger med well because I eat steak med rare but not ground meat, it came out well done. The flavor was good, but I am, by no means, blown away.

My wife and I have come here on several occasions when we are craving burgers. I order the Legend burger and add grilled jalapeños to it and parm on my fries it's consistently good each time. I've had the onion rings before and they were quite good. My wife orders the sliders and likes them quite a bit. I would say this is one of the better gourmet style burgers in Memphis. If your in to sodas they have the Coke machine where you can vary your flavors by adding cherry or whatever you can imagine to your drink. If you're looking for beer they have a few drafts of lager beers which is great to go with a lunch burger. This is for sure a lunch spot atmosphere with the high ceiling creating a louder volume. The staff has been friendly each time I've been here, even when it's very busy.

I am not going to lie, I was kind of let down. I ordered the Wellington and it just seemed to be missing something. The sweet potato fries were pretty good! The lunch special cost me $13 which is kind of steep for a burger and fries for lunch but not completely insane.

Customer service was awful. It made me mad before I even received my food. The burger was decent at best.

The wife decided to take me to The Burger Joint since I have never eaten there. The menu is simple and easily laid out to order. I ordered the Wellington Burger, which has Caramelized Onions, Bleu Cheese, Mushrooms. The taste was fantastic. Burger was nice & juicy, seared to perfection. I could really taste the grill marks on the burger. The burger is $7.95. Honestly I think more like a $6.95 price would have been more in line. The regular French fries were nice & crispy. Some of the tables were a tad dirty and really needed someone more on top of that. Otherwise...a decent lunch dining experience!

  • Cedahlia S.

first time in and it was great!! Everything was fresh and hot. It gets a 3 for the cleanliness. All the tables had crumbs on them the ketchup bottles were empty and the one on my table had more on the outside than in the bottle. There were lots of take out orders and I totally understand why... I did have the wellington burger and it was awesome.

  • Whitney B.

Overall terrible. Got a burger with bacon, avocado, and grilled jalapeños with sweet potato fries. The avocado was so hard, I could squeeze the slice between my fingers and it didn't squish. For an extra $1.50 there were 3 tiny pieces of jalapeño. The sweet potato fries were burnt. On top of that, there was no iced tea and they were out of half of the beers on tap. Left unsatisfied and feeling like I got ripped off. Will never be back here and would give zero stars if possible.

Not the best burger I have ever had but it's not bad. The guy taking the order was very friendly (I am very picky when it comes to customer service). The tv was obnoxiously loud while the radio was going. I would probably come back, as long as someone else was paying. It is kind of pricey.

My wife and I both had the lobster roll and it was delicious. The sandwich is limited time but I highly recommend it. The fries were crispy but not too salty, the service was great and the chocolate shake was pretty thick. Table was clean, floor wasn't dirty. Solid eating.

It is obvious that the staff doesn't want to be here, and that they don't care if you know that. There's one talk guy in the back. He cares. Thankfully I think he makes the food.

Pretty good Burger. I liked the taste of the grill on my meat, it could have been cooked a tad less. The fries were over done...but overall flavored well. They have coupons on restaurant.com . I suggest downloading the app and making use of their deals, especially if your +1, because they're a bit pricey for lunch.

Had the Wellington. Food was good but was cold. The guy that was expediting sucked because the girl that took our order clearly asked him for a Ghost River when I ordered it then after ten minutes I asked him at the counter he asked her why she didn't tell him. SHE DID THOUGH! The girl taking the orders was awesome. The expediter not so much with cold food and poor service. If food was hot and guys behind the counter were better would give 5 stars

My first trip was a two star visit. The follow up was better but I'm put off by the first impression. I guess burger dryness depends on who is cooking because when the teenager made my burger it was awful...when the more mature gentleman made it, it was delicious. Strange. But I think no matter who is cooking, quality should be consistent. The fries were meh. Wish they offered more varieties of toppings.

finally tried it Best burger of your life? of course not overpriced - a tad glazed and/or snooty teens working - maybe one or two my brother's "the burger" tasted quite decent, fries could do with some seasoning but they weren't bad with ketchup only - nothing else to note of especially ahi tuna - requested rare (if i get poisoning it'll be mostly my fault for taking a dumb leap of fate and choosing a fast food- ish place to order tuna) oh but it turned into a more rare-medium rare so I'm sure it'll be fine anyway the burger is advertised as sushi grade, it was not melt in your mouth so unless they mean benihana sushi grade, this is not super high quality tuna - then again it was a huge slab of meat for only $10 tuna was mostly overpowered by ginger and the soy based sauce they used could not taste the pineapple and the bun is some okay quality kroger brand food is okay, i like the fries because they dont seem as fattening as other places (perhaps add salt) its also pretty quick, we got our food in less than 10 minutes. service could be a little less dead/apathetic if i feel like a burger while im in the area i'll probably stop by again EDIT: With rachel, noise level is horrid

Needed to grab something to eat in this area for dinner. Saw BGR and decided to give it a shot. I love a good burger. When I got inside immediately noticed and loved the decor. Very fun. 80's music playing. You can get regular burgers, but I tried something from the specialty menu. As it's currently November, I tried a burger called the "thanksgiving". Turkey, dressing and cranberry sauce. If it sounds bad - you're wrong! And the fries were amazing! I'll def be back again to try the rest.

BGR is located in the Target shopping center on Poplar- nestled in the strip mall between Yogurt Mountain and Genghis Grill. It's a tiny little space with about 10-12 tables and a very small counter to place and pick up your orders. Dare I say, it might even be a tad bit too cramped near the drink and condiment area. They could definitely benefit from extending the restaurant a bit. I found myself torn on how many stars to give BGR. I kept wavering between 3-4 stars, and I felt like I had to error on the side of caution with this one. I ordered the turkey burger with Swiss, lettuce, tomato and pickles, a side of their sweet potato fries and a fountain drink. The turkey burger is described as being ground with mushrooms and Gorgonzola- it intrigued me so I went with it. My entire order was $18 bucks and some change. $18 bucks for a burger, fries and drink that I am enjoying in the confines of a restaurant that more resembles a fast food establishment? I think not. I get that they have better ingredients yadda, yadda- but I'm sorry you're gonna have to up your game in the decor department before I spend that kind of money on the regular. I expected a lot from this burger, and it was pretty good. I'll agree with the previous reviewer who says it puts Five Guys to shame. Totally. The turkey patty was thick and had great flavor, I could definitely detect the 'shrooms and Gorgonzola mixed in. The bun was fantastic- definitely held its own with all the condiments. The sweet potato fries were a bit of a let down, especially because I couldn't decide between them and the asparagus. If you're on the fence choose the asparagus. It's gotta be better than these. They didn't have much flavor at all, and I ended up throwing away a large majority. I feel like I must stand up for the soda machine situation that has been negatively addressed. First off, kudos to BGR for having this monstrosity that offers over 100 different soda options. Strawberry, peach, grape and orange Sprite Zero? Umm hello?! Sign this gal up! I'm all for choices. That being said, yes, when it gets crowded you are going to have a bit of a line full of confused folks who cannot make a decision. Or, in my case, an elderly couple who just had no clue what the heck this machine did. My advice? Give it some time to catch on and the lines will disappear. I don't know about you, but I'd take the mammoth selection and wait in a small line any day of the week. It also should be mentioned that they now carry a selection of Ghost River beers. I will definitely be back here if only to try that lamb/gyro burger they have on the menu and their asparagus fries. After my first experience, I'm not getting the whole "burger you must try before you die" thing. Perhaps I ordered the wrong thing- I'm willing to give it another go. However, I'm still going to stand by my feeling that they need to give this place a makeover, offer wait service- anything to put my mind more at ease with the price point. At $36 bucks for 2 people to eat here, you need to up the ante a bit.

BGR "The Burger Joint" was a total disappointment. "The Burger" with regular fries and regular drink ran to $13.29. The burger was ordered medium and it was cooked properly. Toppings were fresh enough but the grilled onions were too tough to bite through. I didn't know what to expect of the Mojo sauce. I still don't, I'm not sure if they put any on my sandwich. The brioche bun was too dense and chewy for a burger bun in my opinion. On the other hand the fries were perfectly cooked, hot and fresh, but did not save my visit. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for. I didn't and I won't return.

I'm wavering between 2 and 3 stars on this, and the price combined with the lackluster food are what put me over (or under, rather). Lunch for two, consisting of one regular burger with cheese ($.99 extra, which seemed a little much on top of a $6.99 burger), a Wellington, fries, asparagus, and a fountain drink, came to a whopping $30, which made us do a double take, and glad we didn't go for a milkshake too! I mean, that's kind of a lot for a quick lunch -- we could've gone to Huey's and had a server and a few beers with our burgers for the same price. The burgers were fine, but somewhat smaller than the weirdly greasy buns they came on, and really nothing special. I got the "standard" fries, which were clearly frozen and not very good. Apparently you have to spring for the almost $5 "Gold Standard" fries to get ones made from actual potatoes. Overall, the food was decent, but given the price, I expected something outstanding. Honestly, I'm not sure who this place is trying to cater to -- most of the burgers sounded too "gourmet" and just plain weird for my taste, and BGR is too pricey to make it a regular spot. For instance, if I'm going to spend serious money on lobster, this is just not the place I would do it, despite the odd inclusion of seasonal lobster on the menu. Same goes for sushi-grade tuna -- why not just get sushi? If I want a regular burger, I'll stick with Five Guys for way better fries and prices.

I had the lamb burger. It was A W E S O M E !!! The cookie I had was tasty too. Service was pretty decent. The only downside is the acoustics of the building, the music can get pretty loud in there. I will go back when I am able.

  • Kathleen M.

It's not Five Guys...and it's not Hueys. It's a beast all of it's own. The seats were uncomfortable. The prices were slightly higher than I expected (not crazy high...but I could've paid a buck or two less). The flavor wasn't anything to get excited about. The special sauce was a winner though. The ashtray sitting on the food line was probably not something I'd expected to see. I WANTED to love his place. The bun reminded me of Fudruckers...and I liked the idea behind the place....just think it needs some fine tuning

I've seen reviews on other sites, and I'm reading basically the same thing...BGR is too expensive for what you get. I went there today and got the $10 burger/fry/drink lunch special. Burger was a great size and everything was extremely fresh. The Mojo sauce was decent. Fries were delish and they gave me a pretty big serving. It was so much food that I couldn't finish my lunch. Overall, I enjoyed my meal and trying out the Coke Freestyle machine for the first time. I would definitely go back. These gourmet burger places are really hot right now in most cities, but Memphis doesn't seem to be one of them. I think BGR would do much better if they could keep the total ticket price at $10, and charge more for add-ons. When the ticket price goes above that, then so does everyone's expectations. Seems the perceived value of their product is low, primarily because of the price.

  • Jessica B.

As others have stated, it is a bit overpriced. The burgers are better than your average fast food joint for sure, but maybe not as gourmet as they'd like you to believe they are. I think I've had equally decent burgers at sit down chain restaurants (TGI Fridays Jack Daniels burger, anyone?) so they're definitely not anything I'd go out of my way for. I wanted to love their fries, especially with add-ons such as Parmesan cheese and garlic. That being said, I was grossly disappointed. The base fries themselves were mediocre, and definitely not of the Yukon Gold variety they claim to be (wrong color, size, and consistency). Perhaps my biggest disappointment though was the Parmesan cheese- I was expecting actual cheese, but got the powdered sawdust that is sometimes passed off for Parmesan cheese at school cafeterias and state correctional facilities. Not cool. And definitely not worth paying extra for. Overall it was a mediocre experience that I won't likely be repeating on my own accord. They did have a Coke Freestyle machine though!

Sorry employee, good food, overpriced. Ahhhh. Another owner and/or manager that apparently doesn't care, doesn't know anything about service businesses and DOESN'T BOTHER READING THEIR OWN REVIEWS! Second visit and both times the food was great. The cook did well tonight (8-22-2012). $31.00 for two burgers fries and fountain drinks is a bit stiff but can be justified by exceptional service and food. Based on two visits I don't think BGR will be around through 2013 unless they wake up. Child working behind the register kind of had attitude and seemed too preoccupied to care what I wanted. Ordered the bottled root beer (even picked up the display bottle to show him) and he rang up a fountain drink ($2.29). Told him I wanted lettuce, tomato and grilled onions on my Cuban and he informed me the burgers came with everything they need and ignored my request. Pathetic. LISTEN TO THE CUSTOMER AND DO WHAT YOU ARE TOLD high school boy. I asked him for the manager's name and contact info and he acted like he hadn't heard me so I told him he had not given me anything else I asked for he could at least give me the name. A fellow named Michael came out and apologized for the "new" employee and gave me a "Sometimes we mess up" scratch-off with a CHANCE to win another burger and the cook seemed concerned but it's not their problem. They're doing what they should. The owner and manager bear the responsibility. If I had read these reviews I would have never come the first time. This is a tough business and anybody can have a bad night. BGR has some tough competition just around the corner. The competition stays packed and you have to stand in line a while to pay less for a great burger and fries. The competition's food isn't as inventive as BGR but it's done well. I have never seen this place busy-maybe they do a huge lunch business. IF I had gotten what I asked for, the food was great (it almost was), AND the employee knew what he was doing and had a little passion for his job I wouldn't mind mind paying $31.00 plus tip for a couple of burgers and fries. If the order taker is the face of the business he better be sharp dealing with people because in this place he's the only person you'll deal with. If I had half a million of my own invested in a BGR I'd make damned sure he knew what he was doing before I put my fate and reputation in his hands and walked out the door. Unfortunately way too many owners don't get it until it's too late. I am undecided if I will give them a third chance.

Good gourmet burgers. A little on the pricy side for the size. Be a good choice for a date night.

I had the lunch special (burger, fries, drink $8.99+tax). The burger was cooked perfectly. It's served on a brioche bun which is a lot of bread but I can live with that. Also, the burger is huge. It could (and probably should) be shared. A lot of really good fries too. Here's the knock-the place is small and loud. Seriously, there is a huge JBL sub woofer behind the drink machine and they're not afraid to use it. The tables are almost on top of each other. The noise and crowded seating do not make for an enjoyable experience to me. Maybe if I was in my early 20s I could tolerate it. Verdict: very good food, seriously irritating atmosphere. I can't say I'll return.

I wanted to like this place, I really did, but I don't. We went on a weekday at 4pm, and the place was, to be expected, empty...three employees were standing around doing nothing. The layout reminded me of another chain, Smashburger...the decor was a little "low-rent". I got the Wellington, a naked burger on a brioche bun topped with caramelized onions, "deeply roasted mushrooms", bleu cheese crumbles, and (supposedly) black truffles. I ordered it medium rare...I got it well well done. They claim to grind their own meat and use prime dry-aged beef...well, if you cook it like this, you could use shoe leather and no one would be any the wiser. The topping was so salty and the burger was so dry, my mouth was puckered. I assume they used some truffle oil because no truffles were in evidence. My wife's burger was better...it was the basic model, only slightly overcooked to well done (ordered medium). It was topped with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, pickles, and Mojo sauce. It was missing the bacon we paid extra for. This burger was pretty good, certainly not as dry or salty as mine. However, another annoyance was the bun. In both instances, either it was toasted too long or was a little stale...as a result, there was considerable resistance when biting through it...it resulted in pushing the contents of the burger out the bottom into our hands. The fries were the biggest disappointment. There was a very generous portion...we opted to season ours (for extra of course) with the garlic, rosemary, and parmesan toppings. We needn't have bothered...they were so completely devoid of flavor, we didn't even care to finish them. The garlic had been soaked, ostensibly to mellow the bite of raw garlic...what resulted was less the famous garlic fries of San Francisco, and more a pile of mush. The parmesan looked and tasted like it came out of a green can. The strawberry shake was nothing special...it tasted like melted ice cream. There had been one other customer while we were there, yet our order was screwed up, our food was miscooked, no one checked on us or greeted us or said good bye to us...what are they paying these people for? Furthermore, the total damage to my wallet was considerable, especially considering I had to find something else to eat later that night. Two burgers, one order of fries, one shake, and one soda cost $34. If you're interested in checking this place out, you'd better do it soon...I have a feeling they won't be around very long. You couldn't get me to come back here at half the cost. I will stay with Five Guys.

My husband and I have eaten here multiple times. We are vegetarians and were thrilled to find an awesome veggie burger. The first time we ate at BGR our bill was like $35 for two veggie burgers with onions, cheese a side of fries and onion rings. The burgers were awesome, but way too expensive! We went back sometime later and ate for approximately $25. We were careful about adding extras, but it seemed like they had lowered their prices. Again, the veggie burgers were great! We've been back a few more times and the food has always been really good. The price keeps us from frequenting more often. Today we went in and ordered two veggie burgers with cheese, fries and drinks. The total was $26 and some change. It took us about 25 minutes to get our food. The veggie burgers were cold and falling apart. The cheese had previously been melted, but was cold. The bun was cold and hard. The fries were hot and delicious. I'm not certain what happened today, but we agreed that we wouldn't be back.

i've been to the burger joint three times. all three times, the food was outstanding. however, it bothers me how expensive it is. it's REALLY expensive. unless you order the weekday lunch combo - which i think with tax ends up being close to $11, you are looking at spending upwards of $20 for a burger, fries and a drink. yep. additionally, they are weird about substitutions or asking for something taken off (like onions, for example). my friend spent five minutes talking with the cashier trying to figure out what she could order without onions. it shouldn't be that hard. additionally, she wanted water - as in from the tap - and ended up with a $3 bottle of figi. not cool, burger joint. and finally, i had a groupon yesterday. and i think my groupon days are just about over after my experience. there are too many stipulations and restrictions. yesterday it was, if i wanted to use my groupon for lunch, i had to be charged for an additional a la carte drink (which i did not receive). what? really? yes, really. it was awkward, uncomfortable and felt like some sort of scam. so, all in all, i'll say this. as a vegetarian who has a hard time finding a good veggie burger in memphis, this place rocks. outstanding veggie burger, fantastic fries. and after three visits in the past year or so, i'll also give the burger joint points for consistency. but that's all they get points for. the difficulty in ordering, using coupons and trying to get your food prepared 'your way' make me not want to return to this place. customer service is a big huge deal. no matter how good the food is. if i was rating on food alone, i would have given 3 or 4 stars, but yesterday's experience earned only 2 stars from me. i'm not sure if i'll go back to the burger joint. we'll see what happens the next time i crave a veggie burger.

Great burger! Great prices! You defiantly leave satisfied for the money you spent, place is small inside I would recommend to-go if you plan on going over the weekends!

BGR Burger Joint was okay, but nothing special. I ordered a few things with friends, and we split. The regular burger was alright, but it was a little burnt on the outside. They also overcooked it. The veggie burger had a great flavor, but it crumbled as soon as you picked it up. It was like eating a sloppy joe. The Southwest burger had some great flavors to it, but was a little sweet for me as a burger. The fries were really good. They are standard size, not steak or shoestring. They have just the right amoutn of salt and crunch. The onion rings were so-so. I didn;t really care for the batter, but I liked the size. Bonus points for the freaking awesome soda machine in the back with endless choices on a touch screen. They are way overpriced for what they are in my opinion. You are paying over 10 bucks for a burger, and that does not include a side or drink. With everything total, you are spending 15 per person, on average. Also, I try to keep it local. These guys are a chain. I probably won't be back.

I really don't like to give negative reviews...BUT, with that said. This place was too expensive for what you get. Sure the hamburger was good and sure the mix and match drink machine was cool, but not for $15. I went for lunch on a Saturday. Tried to order the "lunch special" that makes the burger, fries and drink $10, but apparently that's only Mon-Fri. SO, there were two of us, but we were on a budget. We got the one hamburger, which was good but greasy, we got the fries that weren't up to par with MY standards (I'm thinking Five Guys fries) and one drink. So really for $15 we fed two people, but it wasn't a full meal. I won't be going back unless I have a coupon.

BGR is nothing special. When I read the menu I was instantly impressed with the "gourmet" type burgers they had. Yes, it is overpriced for a burger joint but if the quality was gourmet, I would have been willing to pay the gourmet rate. Instead, the Turkey burger and the regular burger my husband got were pretty underwhelming--too much bread and the meat was dry. The restaurant is a very tiny space...during the lunch rush hour...you feel like you're being herded inside and there's not much space at the order counter. The drink machine is cool and all but it didn't really impress me that much. There is often a line at the drinking fountain because people either get overwhelmed by the choices or just don't know how to work the darn thing.

Why is it that those with so few nice things to say must use so many words to do so? The simple fact is that the Burger Joint serves a superior burger.

One wonders if the previous reviewer actually ate at BGR, because the burgers at BGR are superior to Five Guys in every way (and I like Five Guys). We could start with the fact that BGR has more burger options and will cook burgers to order, as opposed to requiring medium well or above. BGR also has sweet potato fries, and a lobster roll on the menu. Freshly baked cookies and brownies make a nice finish. And I can't close without mentioning the amazing soft drink machine offering 127 Coke product flavors,

So heres the thing about The Burger Joint. Yes the burger was tasty. It was not the best burger that I have had (the sadly closed Burley's reserves that right), but it was tasty and the combinations of burgers are interesting, and "high end." But damn... I'm not even a very frugal person, but that shit is expensive! For my boyfriend and I to have a burger and fries with a drink it was almost 40 bucks... that is insane to me, even with their "high end" ingredients. I ordered the Wellington. It was tasty, but a bit tough to eat. I don't want to be the person that complains about the messiness of something as a negative, but I was forced to knife and fork it. I think if a burger is going to be covered in sauce like that, it may work out better with a different bread, that doesn't fall apart, or soak through. Not to mention that the burger claimed to have black truffles on it... there is no way it did. Even if it had, why would they cover up all of those flavors with an overpowering sauce? Which brings me to my other point. I guess that I'm not a huge fan of beef wellington, but the sauce was way overpowering to me. I couldn't taste the caramelized onions, or the mushrooms. The blue cheese was not put on the burger very evenly, so I would get one bite with no cheese, and one bite that was way too much cheese. To me a good burger is all about what you can taste even in just one bite, and this burger was inconsistent. Their fries are also nothing special. I do like that you can add garlic or Parmesan or rosemary... but after 35 bucks on the burger and fries I didn't want to spend even another dollar. So overall... yes they have interesting burgers... yes they are tasty. Are they worth the price? I honestly don't think so. I also honestly don't think that this place will survive in Memphis, because of that. We were in there on a Sunday, after church time, and there were probably only two other people in the whole place. I am wishing so much for a Burley's replacement, but this place is not it.

Pretty good service from what I could tell, tried the lunch special to-go; it ended up being about ten dollars for a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink- a MASSIVE cheeseburger that was REALLY tasty, and a lot of fantastic fries- probably enough to to feed me and another person.

If you are wanting a great burger, it's pretty darn good. It's pricey. It's quick. I got a regular burger with grilled onions, lettuce and mojo sauce. My girlfriend had the Wellington. I had a taste but prefer my regular burger. Rosemary and Parmesan cheese fries were ok. I like more rosemary and garlic taste. TBJ needs to be define. It tries to be gourmet but the decor and preparation is more quick food. The place is small. Be prepare to stand and wait for tables. Overall, I would go back for my munchies for burgers. Next time, I want to try the Greek. It won "Throwdown with Bobby Flay."

The Good: hamburger had the grilled taste you expect from your backyard Weber. Namely, charred on the outside. The Bad: meat was densely packed and cooked beyond what I requested, hence it was dry. French fries had no potato taste. The Coke was just fine.

I honestly can say that I enjoyed it much more than Five Guys....The burger was fresh and delicious. The fries to which I added roasted garlic were yummy and with plenty of fresh garlic. I will go back again on another cheat day....For now I have to get back to my healthy eating.

Whoever these people are that say this place is overrated are CRAZY!!!!! Hands down...this is the best burger I've had in at least 5 years. That's high praise because burgers and fries are my favorite. My previous favorite was Five guys, while they still are GREAT. The Burger Joint takes it to another level. 1st off, all the ingredients were fresh, cooked perfectly and quick. AND it was lunchtime. 2nd they have prime, dry-aged, all natural, hormone free, grain-fed beef. (I'd prefer grass fed but hey...) 3rd the fries were amazing. They had some dude with a aluminum bowl flipping the fries as he was seasoning them...Like it was a "Pizza Joint" or something... I take the burger back to my office and everyone in my office was salivating over the smell. They thought I ordered steak or something. Yes, the burgers are expensive, but you get what you pay for. The quality of these burgers are outstanding. If your the type who grab taco bell for lunch and eats it while your on the phone arguing with your girlfriend on the way back from work, don't go here. However, if you have the time to sit down roll up your sleeves and enjoy your lunch, save up your quarters and go to this place. It's freaking amazing. P.S. Your probably thinking, "Oh that review totally came from a guy who works for the burger joint". Nah, I don't. I just enjoy a damn good burger. I will admit I copied and pasted this from my review on Urban Spoon. Who wants to write this stuff twice??

Okay, my wife told me about this place and we were both really excited to go. First impressions weren't so great and it just continued to spiral out of control from there. We got there just after opening and the window cleaner was washing the glass and had moved the trash can blocking the entrance, most restaurants clean before you get there, just a tip. The menu is a little confusing because it says what the topping are but if you order them, you don't get them. Me and my wife both ordered the southwest. It comes with mango salsa and pepper jack. My wife asked for no mango salsa and I asked for mine on the side. We both told them what topping we wanted. When our $9 burgers came out they both had the mango salsa on them and no toppings. For $9 you should get exactly what you order. They gave us our cups and then you get to try and fix your soda. They have a touch screen soda dispenser that is so confusing, the line to get drinks gets longer than the line of people ordering. If you want a top for your drink, too bad. They have one size cup and lack the foresight to order the lids that go with it. They had a half assembled/disassembled coffee machine? on the counter with hoses sticking out. 30 napkin dispensers stored in the way of everything. Basically it was a cluster fuck. The interior looks cheap and unfinished. The furniture is cramped and uncomfortable. The burger was actually okay. Luckily, I learned that I do like mango salsa, unfortunately my wife knows she doesn't. The burger was slightly over seasoned and tasted mostly like hot sauce. It wasn't bad, but I've definitely had better. Over all I would say save your money for something else, but if you just want to go ahead and try it. Maybe your experience will be better, cause it couldn't be much worse.

At $30 for two basic burgers with fries and sodas, my hopes are pretty high. The Coke fusion machine was really exciting, but then I found out that they were out of CHERRY COKE, that most basic of flavored sodas. The burgers arrived after a reasonably short wait, and were presented rather well. After hearing a lot about the freshness of the ingredients here, I was disappointed to taste a very bland, styrofoamy tomato. However, the pickles just about made up for it, as they were delicious. The much-hyped mojo sauce is decently tasty, but nothing to write home about. The meat was disappointingly bland, and my medium-rare was undercooked, while my dining companion ordered his the same way and got a solid mid-well. The fries are tasty but unspectacular. Altogether, this was a decently pleasant experience, although I'd recommend either coming for the lunch box deal @ $10 or driving one street over to 5 Guys for better food at 2/3 the cost.

I tried this place out with a group today. Not the best for a group as everyone's food comes out at a different time when everyone is paying individually. I tried the Cuban burger. It was okay. If I go back, I probably will just get a regular burger. I ordered my burger medium and they cooked it right, so that is a plus. The fries that they talk up so much were mediocre. I rate this place at only 3 stars because it doesn't stand out. There are just too many good places to eat around here. It takes a really great place to stand out any more. I wasn't thrilled with the price. When I weigh price vs the food, it isn't worth it. I can get a burger just as good for less $ elsewhere. It turns out that it is a Feng Shui Tortoise. Further reading revealed that it was facing the wrong way. What's the point of having a metal turtle to manipulate imaginary forces if you aren't going to follow the imaginary rules associated with it?

So glad I didn't listen to the bad reviews. The place is clean, the staff was friendly and the Wellington burger was the BEST I'VE EVER HAD. Cooked to perfection and full of juicy goodness. Of course all that goodness doesn't come cheap, but with such fine ingredients, I'm willing to pay a little bit more. I've been there twice now, and both times the food and service were excellent. I can't emphasize that enough.

The burgers themselves are tasty but the tables and chairs are dirty, the TV is so loud that those in the kitchen can hear, but the patrons cant talk to each other over the blare, and the milkshake is way too small to cost $5. I will only get takeout from here in the future.

I went last week with my wife/son and we sampled a few different things. 1. Regular Burger - very good, cooked perfectly, nice bun. A step up from any other quick-serve burger and most sit down burgers. Not cheap, but very good. 2. Wellington Burger - really, really, really good. It was cooked perfectly, the mushrooms were outstanding and there was just enough blue cheese on it to give it that nice flavor without overpowering the buger. 3. Sliders - not so great, but a good idea. They seemed a bit overcooked, although my son did eat his. 4. Fries - the fries themselve were very good. Nice and crispy, clearled twice fried to get that nice textured. We got them with Parmesean, not recommended, just grated parmesean cheese, kind of like the craft stuff. 5. Drink machine - I agree that only have one machine could end up being a problem, but I like the idea. People will get used to it in time, plus there is plenty of time to wait between ordering and actually getting your food. Overall, I liked it. I llike 5 Guys alot, but it is totally different than this. If I want a nice burger, I'd go here. If I'm craving a grease bomb, I'd go to 5 Guys. Definitely nice variety on the menu too, some healthier options are available (Tuna, Turkey, Veggie) which is a nice change.

Was excited when this place finally opened up. Surprisingly, I heard about it from someone who was talking about the # of coke varieties. It's a futuristic looking machine for sure, but the reviewer who was totally confused is either over 60 and therefore exempt from critique or not too bright because it's a fairly simple touch screen interface. Anyway, as far as the burger goes, I got the Wellington and thought it was perfectly cooked with well balanced seasoning and toppings. I wouldn't go so far as to say it is the best in Memphis, but it is significantly better than 5 Guys. My only real complaint is the bun. I think it is far too dense and bready and it really can dominate the burger rather than act as a support. I understand that with such a hefty burger you want something that is going to hold up or I would be complaining about how my sandwich fell apart, but there has got to be a happy medium. It's almost enough of a detraction to think twice when considering my options but I'm sure I will be back. Good to have another option in the area.
