Every time going to memphis and think about to eat always going to barkat restaurant. I love their hot sauce garlic sauce along with chicken shawarma sandwich and also like chicken Tawook. Worth to visit and eat there.

The service was ridiculously bad. The restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived; there were customers at three tables. We had to wait for ten minutes before our server attended to us. We already knew what we wanted so we went ahead and placed our order. Our server came back 30 minutes after taking our order to announce that they were out of the chicken tawook that we had ordered. I really felt like I should walk out of here because the service was so unprofessional but I stayed. I guess I wanted to see this to its logical conclusion. Our falafel appetizer arrived 45 minutes into the visit. It looked and tasted exactly like the frozen falafel I buy at the store. I really should have walked out at this point but ..... Our shawermas arrived. They were mediocre. As hungry as I was even cardboard should have tasted good. The meat itself was properly season but the fillings left much to be desired and the pita was soggy. Our server's excuse for the service was that it was Labor Day. Granted his English wasn't the best but still. Please don't waste your time with this place.

My first time ever eating middle eastern food. So I have no idea what I'm suppose to be looking for when eating it. I got the chicken tawook and it was great. I haven't had chicken that tender in a very long time. The rice, onion, and tomato were all good. My girl got the chicken tawook warp and she said it was good too. I'm not gonna lie, I felt pretty weird going in there. The Muslim pictures and music playing kinda threw me off my game and I never got back on it. The people were extremely nice and made us feel welcomed. Like I say, when it comes to food, I will try anything. Give this place a chance if you've never been before.

Ok so the food was 4 stars but the atmosphere was more of a 2. Tried this place because of some of the reviews. Most of the reviews were about lunch time but I went at night. There was only one other table of people when we went in. Kind of got some weird looks. :/ We placed our order and waited for our food for an hour. Didn't get checked on so it was rather awkward. We couldn't really ask about the wait because no one came out to check on us. So once we got the food, we hurried and ate then left. Probably will not go back. Odd experience.

I had the tawook chicken and it was amazing. The rice was delicious and the tea was perfect. The baba ganoush was really good...I could eat the entire dish alone. This is one of the best Middle Eastern places in the city, too bad the location isn't the best. This will be a regular lunch spot from now on.

Hidden gem! If you are looking to go off the beaten path a little, and willing to try Middle Eastern Food, let me suggest this place. Absolute top notch service and simply amazing food. We had the hummus, fatouch salad, chicken shish tawook and basmati rice. All real good. The pita bread served warm was a nice touch with the hummus. If I had one recommendation, the hot mint tea could be better, but that is a very minute negative.

It has been about a week now, I have already been here 4 times. Once with my son and three times with my wife. She loves this place as much as I do. We can't get enough of the mix grill and there specials are too good to be true. The lamb are falling of off the bone, very tender, and super awesome. They cook it with love and care. The specials like mussof and upside down lamb, beef and chicken are from old country recipe. They do make the very best rice dish. Very fluffy, light, and well seasoned. It is fantastic!! The only bad thing is that I have not tried any of the shawarma sandwich yet. Just love those mix grills and specials. Go and see Ishmael, he is the half owner and the cook. Very friendly and knowledgeable. He will steer you the right way. Again this place is wallet friendly.

I ate here for lunch and it was fabulous. The server was really nice & this place is definitely authentic. I had the chicken shawarma sandwich and it was delicious! I intend to go back and have a dinner here soon! Also: they deliver! This is a great place to stop by and have lunch if you have business on Covington Pike. It's not far at all!

I will say that this restaurant is somewhat hidden in the shopping mall near dominos on Raleigh Lagrange. The inside of the place is very inviting and the booths are huge. The food potions are really good which you get a good price on what you're getting m. Definitely a place to go for lunch:

Traveling through Memphis craving middle eastern cuisine. Found this spot and sooooo glad we did. Staff was very welcoming as they were setting up for their annual Buffet feast. The spread was "off the charts" fantastic in every way. The tabouli, the Arabic salad, the lamb, the beef, the rice, the chicken, the potatoes and the dessert was JUST exquisite. Taste and presentation was like being at home with my middle eastern friends! Thank you.

This place is unarguably the best Middle Eastern food in town. Their somewhat slow service is the only downside I can think of

This place is great! I have the falafel pita every time I go in and it never disappoints. The hummus is good but nothing beats their baba ganoush. I've tried several others since I've had theirs and none compares. The overall appearance is what you would expect from a middle eastern spot, with a hookah lounge next door, and a grocery store 2 door fronts over you can get the whole middle eastern experience stopping by. This is a great lunch spot for me, I've been back every week since stopping in a couple months ago. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a middle eastern meal.

Terrible place. The pita bread was from the freezer, so cold. The lamb sawarma was also super dry and cold. I literally couldn't eat it. They even charge your 50 cents for extra tahini sauce. Lol

We decided to try this place today for lunch. I ordered the falafel wrap and it was great! We also tried the hummus (yum!) and baklava (eh.). The customer service was great! While I was waiting for my food, they offered me a sample of the Chicken Shawarma. Next time I'll order it!

Barakat restaurant is the best middle eastern food in Memphis. My friend took me and my husband and we loved it. Excellent service and the staff was very friendly and quick. It's so nice when the cook comes out and speaks with the customer. My husband had so many questions for him. Also the garlic dressing was the best I've ever had. They make it fresh daily. This is a must try.

I had the Chicken Tawook for lunch. It was very flavorful and perfectly cooked -- great browning on the outside, still very moist on the inside. Also, the chicken portion is very generous! The rice could have used a little more flavor and the onions / tomatoes that came with it could have been cooked for longer. The pita and garlic aioli were delicious! The inside of the restaurant was decorated very well. Given the neighborhood and the exterior, I was very surprised by how nice and well put-together the decor was. The staff was very friendly, although on this particular day, they could have used more waitstaff. I also tried the chicken schwama, which was very good! Moist and full of flavor! I'm excited to go back soon.
