I've passed this place probably one hundred times and have just never thought to eat here. Finally I got to try it! I love sushi, so it wasn't hard for me to make my decision on what to order. I ordered a seaweed salad and the island sushi roll. The sushi was so great, I didn't even have to dip it in eel sauce! It was warm, the fish was fresh and the taste was just right. I thoroughly enjoyed both of the food items I tried! The service was inattentive and we had to ask for refills on water multiple times. My salad came out with my sushi, which I thought was odd. If we wanted to order more we had to flag them down to even get their assistance. My biggest problem is it was 12:30 and there were just a few other tables... so the service should have been amazing... I'm torn if I would go back. I loved everything about my food and the location. Service makes or breaks a meal for me...

Bangkok Alley was a delightful food revelation. I'd never had Thai, and for a first timer, they really knocked it out of the park. I went with a couple of friends who have both worked for the restaurant, so they gave me the up and up on what to order, but from what I tasted, I suspect everything is delicious. I ordered fried spring rolls as an appetizer and they came with a pleasantly surprising yellow sweet and sour sauce. What I loved about it was that it actually tasted sweet and sour. This was a nice change from the sticky sweet red sauce I usually get with these which tends to overpower the flavor of the spring rolls. I also tried my friend's herb and rice balls. A kick of herb with a hint of mozarella cheese and the texture of sticky rice all in a fried ball of delicious. For dinner, I got the "Drunken Noodle", and the only thing I'd change about this is that it was covered in egg. Normally it would have meat or tofu, but I asked for neither of these. I didn't see anything about the egg on the menu or I would have asked that they leave that off as well. The flavor of the noodles was spicy and zesty with Asian flare. It was just enough spice to dance on my tongue but not enough to burn. I would definitely, definitely order this again. It was fantastic! Another thing I love about this menu is that you can choose the level of spicy in your dish on a 1-10 scale, making it very user friendly. It was also difficult to choose between the huge range of dishes available in vegetarian. And the sauces! Oooh, the sauces. So many delicious sauces to try. Bangkok Alley also delivers on ambiance with a very attractive lounge feel. The decor is soothing and modern. After what I tasted, even though this was my first time with Thai, I think it's giving Japanese a run for the money as my favorite Asian cuisine. The prices were fair, the quality was excellent, and the flavors were divine.

Peanut Salad dressing is my new favorite dressing. Putting it on plain steam rice, takes the rice to whole another level.

Take out. Maybe it was a combination of my awkwardness overwhelming everyone causing them to become awkward, but the hostess took a minute or 2 to take my payment after I gave them my name and her just pointing at the checkbook instead of just taking my credit card(we were 3 feet from the computer). Aside from the 2 minutes of wasted time... the food... its delicious. The only problem I had with it was that I only tasted the spice, the sugar, and the salt. Not saying there wasn't flavor in my food, (ordered Pad kee mao and pad kra pao) the food again was delicious, but the complaint here is that there was no herbaceousness ... oh not a word, but anyway I could barely taste the basil, no strong garlic or any other typical thai flavors. It's really good food and they have a great bar(not that I got to try that out, it looks great though) but to me the authenticity of the dishes are rather lacking.

Friday night, kind of quiet, but my husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner here. He loves their seabass and I really enjoyed my pad see yew with shrimp. It all was so yummy and the service was excellent. Definitely recommend this one for sure!

Quite possibly the most bland dining experience I've had yet in Memphis -- and definitely the worst offering in that particular little foodie neck of the woods. Bland food, bland service, bland atmosphere, bland wine list -- yup, it's bland. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Great atmosphere, great sushi, great drinks, and great service. What more can you ask for. The one draw back is the parking. Their parking lot is very small so you may have to park at a neighboring business or on the street if you get their anytime after happy hours. I definitely recommend this place for dine-in and happy hour.

Good food, however service was extremely slow. Went for lunch and is not a place you can get in and out of in a hour. Almost 1:45. Very slow to pay.

Not being open until 5 pm and serving room temperature Sapporo from the tap: Strike 1. Ordering the Calamari, having it come out looking like deep fried chicken fingers, and then texting a friend who tells me that Calamari that doesn't look like rings or have little squid shaped pieces isn't really Calamari: Strike 2! Having a parking lot that is really just a paved over front lawn because your restaurant is in a residential area so that the only way you can actually leave without bashing into another car is to perform a 6 point turn: Strike 3! (update: I expect Asians to be working at a Thai restaurant, and maybe that's just me) I didn't like eating here after I left. I wanted some sit-down Thai food that looked kind of nice, this place seemed okay from what I saw on Yelp. Big effing mistake. One woman who came in here after me (making the combined population of this place 5: me, 2 waitresses, 1 cook, and her) complained about the gas that was coming from the lights on all the tables. Waitress just moved their table's candle but left every other table's candles on. By the way those are Chandelier's in the picture, gassy candles are not needed. The only good thing about this was place the beef pad thai. It was good, but after finishing about 2/3 of the pad thai I discovered that it constructed in a way that made it looked like the chef threw everything on the plate before it came out. Ingredients are supposed to me mixed, not hidden under noodles. To recap: Fake Calamari, Warm beer, Confusing parking, and non-Thai people (white people to be more specific) serving Thai food. Not in my house.

I love that my TN based family uses me as an excuse to go out for Thai food whenever I visit. Bangkok Alley is the place that they love to go - and I'm happy to oblige. :) As a native New Yorker and die-hard asian food freak, I'm pretty impressed with the quality and flavors of everything that I've tried there so far. On Thursday night, we had some trouble parking - the place was hopping. It was a beautiful night and most people were seated on the outside patio enjoying live music. We sat inside which was almost empty - and much quieter. The decor is very nice and while the service is very friendly, it was very slow. The waitress did forget about us quite a few times - so that's why this is only a 4 star review. On to the food. I've tried the red curry there previously and asked for it very spicy - and it was very good (but not as spicy as I can handle...but many places are cautious. If you really like heat, ask them for the spice tray). My dad is a big fan of the drunken noodles - not spicy (he can't do spice). The grouper is a favorite and the beef salad is a very nice choice (dressing is amazing). The satay is great - very moist skewers of chicken and not dried out (as they can sometimes get). The potsickers are a winner and I had the Tom Yum soup with shrimp (which had a very nice heat and a generous portion of cilantro). If you're a mango fan - get the mango pie. It's a generous portion of delicious mango (mousse maybe?) in a crusty pie shell topped with a heaping of delicious mango sherbet. Great way to finish!

I came here for dinner late on a Tuesday evening. We sat outside. Both the hostess and waitress were friendly and the service was good. There was a small white cat that sort of hung out outside, and they brought it a bowl or two of water and possibly food. On Tuesdays they sell their bottles of wine priced less than $40 for half-price, so that was a pleasant surprise. They also have a list of "fruity wines" which is great for people like me who don't love most dry wines. We got a shrimp basil appetizer which was good but probably not good enough that I'd order it again. I ordered the cashew chicken entree and he got the panang curry steak. We were offered a choice of white or brown rice. We both agreed my entree was better. It was so tasty and that I've been basically craving it since. A bit far from downtown where I live but I'd certainly go back.

I had to edit my rating after our last visit. I realized that I was giving 4 stars for the pad thai which we frequently order as take out. Upon further contemplation, every time we eat there and order something other than pad thai the food is...alright.

Huge selection of sushi rolls here- try the Rock N' Roll (crab, shrimp tempura, cucumber and avocado) or the lobster roll (lobster, shrimp and crab with the special chili sauce). You may also order traditional rolls like crunchy shrimp, spicy crawfish or California rolls. I'm not much on sashimi, but my husband likes the yellowtail, so it must be pretty good. If you don't dine on sushi, go for some Thai cuisine with the Pad Thai or Massaman Curry. There are so many yummy items on the menu that you might have a hard time choosing just one. I like to order an appetizer of chicken satay as well when I'm here for dinner. For lunch, try the Bangkok salad or seared ahi tuna salad. I love them both. This is one of 4 Bangkok Alley restaurants in the Mid South, and I love the Brookhaven location.

Great lobster rolls! Amazing, they seem to be fried. Whatever they are it's like a party in your mouth! The decor in the place is very pleasing and calm. The staff are very nice and helpful. Love this place :)

Service was slow and not very attentive. The food was good (not great) and portions were large. They have to speed up service for the lunch crowd; my hour lunch turned into 90 minutes.

I'm sure all the couples out there will understand this: sometimes you just need a "me" day. Yes, my love, holding your purse while you shop for the perfect pair of beige heels can be taxing, especially when you start explaining the difference between taupe, beige, eggshell, and off white to me. Outwardly, I'm all smiles and nods, but inwardly I'm cursing your name and picturing driving the heel of the next stiletto i see into my eye just so I can escape. One Friday, when faced with the possibility of being drafted to hold my then-girlfriend's purse again, I called my buddy up and we decided to quietly slip out the house. We circled the house nervously for a while, as if we were trying to shake a tail. Finally, we made our way to the movies. We walked and asked which movie had "the most testosterone, explosions, nudity, violence, and gore" and were rewarded with two tickets to Olympus Has Fallen. After the movie, we hadn't had a chance to eat yet, so we decided to run over to Hog and Hominy, which isn't that far from the Paradiso. Hog and Hominy was crazy packed, however, so we decided to take a chance at Bangkok Alley. We walked in and we were both struck by the ambiance. Inside, the restaurant is all low, flattering lighting, and smooth jazz. Everyone in the place was on date, and deep in conversation/flirtation; their muted tones never daring to obscure any of the Kenny G wafting from the speakers. My friend and I looked at each other after we were seated and desperately scrolled through our phone books for any females we knew that could come dispel the image of us dating, but to no avail. To make our relationship status more nebulous, we decided to share an appetizer of the crab meat and spicy tuna stuffed avocado at the insistance of our waitress. The mixture of the creamy avocado juxtaposed with the crunchy breading and the slightly sweet crab meat vying against the semi spicy tuna delicately fight on your tastebuds like a scene from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It was incredible, and like a true gentleman, my friend let me have the last bite. For our entrees I ordered the drunken noodles and my friend ordered the Jungle curry, which is supposedly the spiciest thing on the menu. We both enjoy spicy food, so we encouraged the addition of more spice. When the noodles arrived, they were awash in veggies, and a combination of meats (which is extra). The wide noodles were tossed in some sauce that was so damn good I honestly contemplated licking my plate. (I tried to convince my friend to have some of my noodles so we could eat Lady and the Tramp style, but he wasn't having it). Since he didn't want to try any, I quickly devoured my whole plate. Hell, it was so good, I didn't even notice the tails of the shrimp were still attached till they were in my belly. With a satisfied sigh I looked over, and I was surprised to see my friend sweating his ass off. His curry was too spicy for him! And he's Indian! Everyone thought it was hilarious that a native Indian couldn't handle the spice. Even the waitress and the owner both came over to clown on him in a very respectful and polite -yet still hilarious-manner. The service is attentive, professional, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The food is all fresh, well- seasoned and meticulously prepared. The ambiance is quite romantic (or is it b-romantic?). Remember this: nothing says romance like nosily slurping a noodle down your gullet.

Bangkok Alley is on my boyfriend's and my regularly rotating list of take-out places. Don't get me wrong, we've dined in before (at the Brookhaven and downtown locations), but I prefer to do carry-out here--it's faster and easier. Bangkok Alley has a solid selection of noodle dishes, curry dishes, and stir fries, along with soups, salads, and some fun appetizers. My boyfriend's a fan of the pad kraprow (stir fried basil & chili sauce with fresh basil, small cut green beans, chicken, and red bell pepper pieces) and the pad kee-mao ("drunken noodle") dishes, while I love the curries. Their curries are thinner, as opposed to the thicker style common in the U.K., but they're light, fresh, and flavorful. I've had the red, green, and Massaman curries--all have great flavor, but the red just doesn't have enough veggies for me and I didn't like the texture of red potatoes and the bite of red onions in the Massaman, so my go-to is the green. Their green curry has that perfect sweet-and-spicy flavor, and the pile of vegetables and addition of tender chicken, served over fluffy white rice, makes this one of my favorite meals. Everything comes at a predetermined spice level (about a 4 on a scale of 10, I believe)--I like to bump my dishes up to a 5 or 6, but for the average joe, a 4 is plenty spicy. Carry-out is generally ready within 15-20 minutes of ordering and the checkout process is easy. Dining in is alright--the Brookhaven location always seems a bit empty (sometimes I wonder how they stay open), yet the service always seems slow and servers can be a bit inattentive. The decor is Thai-inspired, yet clean and contemporary, and the outdoor seating is quite nice, despite the lack of any sort of view. Parking is pretty terrible--their lot is small and cramped, so it's quite a feat to find and fit into a spot, and an even bigger feat to get back out of that spot when it's time to leave. I have no idea where they rate on an authenticity scale, and I've only been to a few other Thai restaurants in my lifetime, but I'm quite pleased with their curries and noodle dishes--definitely a great place to go (or to order carry-out from) when you're craving Thai and Asian flavors.

Absolutely wonderful. Dishes are flavor-full and well-balanced. Atmosphere is charming. Service couldn't be better. They have an amazing patio and covered deck to provide three-season dining and the outdoor bar is well equipped with the essentials, beer, TV, and great mixed drinks. The Thai toast appetizer is spot on. Honestly I've never had a dish I didn't like. Is it the best food ever.... no. Is it a really good meal. Heck yes! I'll be back again and again.

When I have a craving for Thai food, Bangkok Alley is not normally on my radar. I have certain places that I frequent for this cuisine. However, I was forced to step out of my comfort zone for a friend's birthday dinner one night. I had actually never stepped into a Bangkok Alley before this night, so I was in for a brand new experience. I liked the atmosphere in the bar/lounge area. There were cozy benches with lots of brightly colored throw pillows. The whole place was pretty small, but the intimate feeling worked. Our servers were very sweet, but they seemed a little understaffed for our big party. Granted, we had around 20-25 people, but our food seemed to take longer than it should have. Also, I ran out of water before the food got there, and it never got refilled. This poses a pretty big problem, considering how saucy and hot Thai dishes usually are. My company raved on and on about the "Drunken Noodle", or "Pad-Kee-Mao" in Thai. There were many choices on the menu, so I was happy to have a suggestion to narrow down my choices. This dish is described as "Stir fried flat wide noodle with fresh basil, egg, onion, bell pepper, bean sprout in special cooking wine sauce". I love Thai noodle dishes, so I was ready to take on Drunken Noodle. The dish comes with a choice of chicken or tofu, and I opted for the tofu. The first thing I noticed is what a generous portion of noodles this was. You will not go hungry, for sure. Thai food is known to be spicy, so I should have known to expect a kick in the pants. This dish wasn't Thai hot, but it was well above mild for sure. Overall, the dish was yummy. It didn't knock my socks off like I was expecting, but I will order it again in the future. Also keep in mind this is an Americanized Thai restaurant, so prices are not comparable to your hole-in-the-wall joints around town. You pay extra for the atmosphere and the higher quality ingredients. I say it is worth it, if you are looking for a nice meal out. Overall, Bangkok Alley did not rise to the top of my Thai restaurant list, but it made it to the top 5. I am not aching to go back, but I can guarantee I will when the time is right.

I actually went to Bangkok Alley for the first time last night. While I had a long misconception that the place had just Thai food and wouldn't hold a candle to my all time favorite Bhan Thai, I was informed that they also had sushi. Sign me up. The sushi was pretty darn good, I have to admit. I got the bomb roll and the casino roll. The bomb roll had an assortment of seafood and was fried (clearly, I was trying to be healthy). While it had a bit of a kick to it, it was delicious. The casino roll was stellar though. It had salmon, shrimp and crabstick coupled with asparagus and a delicious sauce on top. My only complaint was the roll was huge. I had to cut a few pieces in half. Call me a wimp, whatever, but I prefer bite size sushi. Service could have been better, and the hostess told us her life story right before sitting down, but everyone was friendly enough. We sat on the patio, and that honestly won me over to the place. I really like patios.

Not too bad. The menu says "thai inspired". So not authentic thai older woman cooking family recipies. More like chinese, thai, japanese utility player of a restaurant. Appears to have four locations in non major culinary cities. On the negative side, menus so sticky that i had to wash my hands after reading. Never saw our waitress again after she delivered our food and one second later asked if we liked it before we had a chance to try. Wines are the normal trite and obvious selections of bigger chains. Out of 1-10 hot scale, i ordered 10 and still found it so mild that i needed the spice tray On the positive side: it was thai like

I graduated from Graduate School at the University of Memphis last Sunday at the FedEx Forum and afterwards my parents told me to pick somewhere. I really wanted Thai food because it's my absolute favorite but I wasn't sure my family would go for it. Well, they did! And we all enjoyed it soooo much! (minus my poor hubby) This first thing we noticed is this location is smaller than the Collierville one. So small in fact that one large wedding party sitting in the middle took up most of the seating area. It was also either echoey or the party was just very happy, but we couldn't talk to one another very much until they left (they trickled out more than half an hour later). But other than the noise issue we enjoyed ourselves immensely. Getting to the bathroom was an adventure itself. You go through a door in the middle of a long hallway. Arrows point you to the left for the bathroom but you wonder what must be to the right. Narnia? (Apparently not- it's the "alleyway" the windows in the dining room face- we saw a very confused woman on a cell phone walk all the way down then all the way back again). As you traverse through this hallway you begin to wonder if there really is a bathroom after all until you happen upon a lounge and some standing screens blocking the way. After a moment you realize there's the bathrooms right to the left of this. Nice bathrooms, too. And then you go back to eat your food, bemused by the experience (or at least we all were). We started with the Sampler Tray and some sushi rolls. Then we all ordered our dinners. My husband isn't a fan of Asian food so I ordered the appetizer he wanted and then a meal I wanted along with what I wanted as my meal (hey man, parents were paying and I got TWO Thai food meals in one night!). Everyone was amused rather than annoyed. My dad got the Pad Thai with beef and we were all impressed with how tender the beef was. The waiter told us it was angus beef. I will definitely have to get that for myself sometime. Everyone was really impressed with their food and agreed they would like to eat at the restaurant again sometime. We've gotten stuff to-go before but it's never as good as when you get it in the restaurant. We will definitely be back, if not to this location, then to the one in Collierville.

I've got only good things to say about Bangkok Alley. Ate here by myself on a very quiet night, if you don't like crowds, go on a Monday. I always think Thai food is really hard to screw up but also hard to do particularly well. Bangkok Alley really exceeded my expectations for the food, which was really excellent. I had the Jungle Curry (a bit surprising! it's like a soup. a very spicy soup.) and the pumpkin custard, which is absolutely worth filling yourself too full for. Service was very attentive, without being overbearing, and the space is very comfortable. Prices are quite reasonable, a little above average, but so is everything about the place.

I have to say, I do like the location of this Bangkok Alley. As a downtowner, I just always go to that location and always forget that the east Memphis location even exists. I like that fact that it is a little smaller and more intimate and right around the corner from where I work. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. I ordered sushi as always (because I have an obsession with it) and the peach martini. The martini was very delicious. I could have had 5 of them, but I did not feel like being sick later!...ha. My company was great and that made the food taste even better. Always a fan of Bangkok Alley at any location.

This restaurant is awesome and I would love to give it a 5 star; however, there are a few things they need to work on before I can give them a 5. FOOD/STAFF: The food is really good and authentic and it deserves a 5 star! The food taste really fresh and is very well balanced. The pad thai is awesome. Best Pad Thai I've eaten in Tennessee. My husband really loves the Massaman Curry and he orders that every time. The purple martini is delicious as well. The staffing is great. PARKING LOT: It's very difficult to maneuver in the parking lot. It's so small. They really need to do some working on it. HOURS: Their hours really suck. Who wants to wait till 5 pm on a Saturday to go eat? The restaurant is very clean and well decorated and I feel very comfortable inside. If the owners ever fix the parking lot and the hours of operation, I will definitely come back and give it a big 5.
