Nice ambiance in this refurbished home that has a modern South feel to it. The food was well prepared with quality ingredients. Would have like to have seen a slightly larger menu with more variety.

Great meal to celebrate our 5th anniversary. Pace and tone of service was perfect, food was beautiful and delicious, and the atmosphere is elegantly modern yet grounded in traditional themes. Can't wait to go back.

Great food and atmosphere. A little hard to find, and limited parking, but worth it. Will do parties of 40 in the sunroom. You can even call ahead by ten days and order a whole young pig.

I was hesitant to go after the mixed reviews, but after Saturday night's dinner, I had to weigh in! We had a group of 8 and were seated in the private dining room -- which, as someone pointed out earlier, would be perfect for watching the game on the big screen with friends. As all have pointed out, the restaurant has a fantastic ambiance with classy-rustic decor. Our group ordered almost the entire menu, it seemed, and there were rave reviews for the tiny octopus salad, mixed green salad (with beets and goat cheese), watermelon salad, crab cakes, Tandoori pork loin, salmon, scallops, ribeye, and chicken galantine. The desserts (we ordered four different ones) were also a hit -- especially the chocolate peanut butter cremeaux. However, the maitake mushroom agnolotti was a flop -- bland, bland, bland. The service was somewhat slow, as it took a while for our waiter to come take drink orders, and took longer to get them back to us, and took even longer to bring any bread. And although our server had a great personality and gave great food/wine recommendations, I would have expected a little more response than "oh" when the diner who ordered the agnolotti told him it was not very good. Overall, fabulous food, decent service (but not a dealbreaker) -- we will be back!

I was not that impressed. We started with the raw duo - the scallops were bland and fishy, the hamachi was flavorless. The mixed green salad was good, but I would have liked more beets and goat cheese. My husband ordered the ribeye which he liked. But towards the end of dinner, he started to get a headache. When we asked if it was cooked with alcohol, even though the desciption in the menu did not mention it, we were told yes. My husband has an allergy to alcohol. Not a good way to end the night. When we brought it up to the owner, he said they were French influenced and basically we should have known. Nothing about the name of the restaurant, the decor or the menu choices indicated it was a French influenced restaurant. It is the first time that we have eaten at a restaurant that did not mention an alcohol based reduction. Not too happy with the response. I had the scallops which were good but the accompanying fettucine was salty and overcooked. I also had the gnocchi which was okay but a little heavy.

A friend and I decided to have a 'fancy lunch' during one of my last days in Memphis (My family and I have moved back to Canada). This is the restaurant for folks who want to bring novice foodies into the fold. The menu is approachable enough for those who want regular fare but interesting enough for those that want something exciting. I had the grouper with peas and purple sweet potatoes which was wonderful. The highlight was the back. Wrapped cheese stuffed dates though . They're really not to be missed.

Wow. I am so glad that I finally had dinner here! First of all, I can't believe how nice everyone was. From the bartender to Wally Joe, every person I met was incredibly kind. Especially the bartender! She was absolutely amazing. The entire night I felt like I was in a ski lodge. The ambiance is incredibly charming. I fell in love with the horse photographs and the complimentary valet was also a plus. My only teensy, tiny issue was with the menu. There were only a handful of things I would order. I finally decided on the ribeye and it was quite good, but not knock my socks off. I don't know if they change the menu regularly but I would love to see what else they have. And they didn't have any specials tonight either. However, the dessert was absolutely mind blowing. The apple pie and chocolate whatever was gone in 2 seconds. I will definitely be back!

My opinion?? This is the most beautiful restaurant in Memphis... I like to go, so I can just look around!!! The sticky toffee is amazing and I love their drink menu! Will be back soon!

This is one of the top five dining experiences I have enjoyed in Tennessee. I had the pork brisket. I was surprised it wasn't sliced - it was whole. What a wonderful experience! Very few meats "melt in your mouth." This did. With this entree comes a sprouted rue dish. It has an earthy taste with a rough texture. I enjoyed it immensely. My wife had the lamb, which was also excellent. I can't believe I had never tried Acre out before. We will be going back for sure.

I took a guest speaker out to this restaurant after hearing great things about this place and it was a huge miss. We went for dinner and sat down in the main dinning area, many of the great reviews are about the bar area, which I did not visit. The first impression was great, nicely decorated house, you feel like you are in a romantic mountain side getaway. For ambiance alone, they would surely get 5 stars. The server was really helpful with descriptions on the menu and super friendly. So far so good. The food is where this place fell short. We tried the tomato tartar, which I thought was an interesting concept with the tower of chickpea panisse. I know the concept of this restaurant is "simple foods" but I didn't realize that "simple" was synonym of "bland". As a vegetarian, I was excited to try their Roots plate. Tasting this plate took me back to my early years, parsnips tasted like parsnips, carrots tasted like carrot, turnips tasted like turnips, all well cooked and soft... just like that bland baby food I had during my first year of life! If Gerber had a restaurant, I think this Roots plate would be in their menu! OK, so I am vegetarian and am well used to being disappointed at food in upscale-ish restaurants. But here is my problem, the two meat eaters in my party were also underwhelmed by their dishes. The medium-rare Ribeye was served well-done and the veal was just veal. The spicy chocolate parfait we had for dessert? There was absolutely nothing "spicy" about it! I don't know if we just happened to go on an off day for the chef or if Mondays are leave-your-spices-at-home day, but this was definitely not good food. So they are getting a star for ambiance and a star for service, but the rest of the stars I dedicate to the food and not even the nice presentation compensates for the lack of flavor. One more Memphis restaurant of my list.

If you're ever in Memphis and need a nice, upscale place to dine then look no further. I went here with some clients and the place is top-notch from appetizers to desserts. I don't think you can make a bad decision here.

I recently took part in a group of 25 people and we all went in and decided on the whole pig for a surprise party. This was a very unique experience and something that I would try again with a few adjustments. First of all, we all got there at 6:15 with the surprise birthday guest coming at 6:30. When we got there, we were not asked about any drinks and there wasn't any food out at all. Once the surprise came at 6:30 it wasn't until someone asked around 6:45 if we could order drinks. We got our drinks close to 7:00 and the first part of the meal (salad) came around 7:30. We were there for over an hour and did not have anything to eat. My suggestion would be to work out with the restaurant to have apps come shortly after arrival. The next thing to come out were the sides around 8:00. The sides were very good and consisted of: -roasted carrots and snap peas -creamy mac and cheese -bokchoy -buttery biscuits Finally the carving of the pig came around 8:15 and just about everything I was served tasted good. The pork belly by far was the best. We finished with dessert that was really good. We had caramelized bananas with a corn ice cream that was out standing. The waiters then cleared everything out around 9:15-9:20 and that was the last we saw of them. We didn't end up leaving until around 10:15 but not once did I see someone come by and offer more water, coffee, or anything else to drink. So my two suggestions would be to have some sort of app shortly after you get there and make sure that after the pig is carved, if you want another drink make sure and let the waiters know quickly because it was very evident as soon as they were through with our party and cleaned up they could go home. Food 3.5 stars Service 2 stars

It kind of jumps out at you since its located at that weird part of Perkins. Just look for the yellow doors! The ambiance here is impeccable. I went here for a bridesmaid luncheon, but could definitely see this place being a GREAT venue for a rehearsal dinner. It teeters on the small side, but they have a great patio and a very open bar area with saucy lounging all around. As for the food. We got to try quite a few appetizers. Some of them were good, some not so much, but they all looked pretty if that counts for anything. The one I found most interesting was the steak with a peanut butter sauce. Definitely wasn't expecting that, but I'm a sucker for peanut butter. Their main courses are pretty big, or maybe they seemed big because we all had to fit in some saucy dresses and got a little full on those appetizers. My friend and I split the roasted chicken sandwich. It was very good. Everyones food looked great for that matter. I only asked to try a few, but most everything I tired, I liked. We each also got dessert. Y'all. I had to contain myself when it came to their spicy chocolate parfait. I wasn't too keen on the caramelized chex mix, but it still didn't keep me away from that chocolate and cookie dough :) I can't wait to go back when I can really splurge.

We went there for dinner for my friend's birthday. The Vibe is good, although a bit dark. the portions are a little small. the food quality is good too, but the taste is very ok for the very overpriced items. It is very expensive and it's not so exotic, so I would try it once if you live in Memphis, but I don't see myself going back there for dinner or recommending it for people.

After trying to make a late reservation at most of the finer Memphis restaurants the Friday before Valentines, we felt fortunate to get a table at ACRE, as all of our other options were booked. I have heard several good reports from others on ACRE, and the Yelp reviews were positive. Most of the reviews start with positive comments regarding the interior design, as if that is the strongest feature of the restaurant. I tend to agree that this was the most positive part of the experience, but we were there expecting near perfection in fine dining, based on their prices and reviews. We were disappointed in most of our meal. The Kamatchi was probably the highlight, and I would order it again as an appetizer. My wife ordered the lobster salad, which did not match the price and was nothing special from a flavor perspective. For the entrees we had the Loup de Mer (basically sea bass or branzino) and the lamb shoulder. Although ACRE attempts to pass themselves off as special and fine dining, neither of these dishes reached this level. Both were not especially flavorful, and we would not order either again. A disappointing experience for us, as we love most of our fine dining opportunities in Memphis and wish we could add this to the list. We probably will not return considering the quality of our meal relative to this price point.

Delicious food!! Service was incredible. Made reservations, made a special request & they had no problem meeting it. Very intimate place, quiet & great place to have conversations with people without shouting or having people eavesdrop. Beautiful decor, warm reception. Menu is not for everyone, only one pork, one chicken & one beef entrée. Mostly seafood, but good & clean & light. Don't feel greasy & gross after finishing your meal here. Get light & airy breads to go with your meal & desserts are exquisite.

Came here for lunch for a holiday party at work and I was surprised to see how few people were there. Based off mostly good reviews on here I assumed they would be very busy this time of year. The location is great but the signage is terrible so it's possible that it is just hard to find and know that it is a restaurant. Atmosphere and decor is hands down one of the best in Memphis, in my opinion. I feel like I'm hanging out in a lodge in the middle of nowhere. It's the details of the artwork, lighting, seating, etc. that really pull this together. If you are into the whole ambiance thing, then you must go here at least once. I ordered the Roasted Butternut Squash Soup served with a spicy cream sauce and the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. The soup was okay. But as soon as I mixed in the cream sauce, it went from just okay to great! The key is the mixing of the sauce. Duh! And I had such high hopes for my grilled cheese considering it has caramelized onions in it. However, it never made it past the okay mark mainly because the Cantal cheese that is used is just way to blah for me. I guess I'm a good ole southern girl that likes a grilled cheese made with either American or Cheddar cheese versus a fancy French cheese. Overall good experience for lunch and I will definitely be back for dinner in the near future. Or maybe just for drinks on the patio in the Spring!

Quiet rainy Wednesday evening empty when we arrived and nearly empty when we left but the chef and staff were on their game. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Food was top notch from salad to desert. Fish was delicious!

Got a night off for "Parents' night out" and decided to check this place out on a Saturday night. We were rather surprised at how empty the place was aside from the bar at 7pm...In any case, we were seated promptly on our arrival by a rather cold and sullen hostess...when will restaurants know that first impressions are everything? At least our server was friendly. The setting was very nice...it felt like we were in a "Restoration Hardware" catalog with muted tones and rustic accents. Bread service was unremarkable...a few thick slices of multigrain bread that weren't particularly crusty or tasty. My wife started with the Salsify & Clam Soup ($8)...their "lighter" version of a clam chowder made with smoked buttermilk, corn & chives. This was terrifically rich and savory, and wonderfully evoked an afternoon sitting on Pier 39 in San Francisco with a sourdough bread bowl filled with creamy chowder. The Chilled Maine Lobster Salad ($18) consisting of shredded green papaya, crushed chicharones, jalapeño, basil, & sesame-white soy vinaigrette was tasty as well, though the price was rather steep for two small mounds of salad and what amounted to no more than 1/3 of a chopped up lobster claw. Price issues aside, it was quite tasty with a nice amount of acid, and the presentation was refined and elegant. My wife had the Grilled Duck Breast ($25.00) with their version of "fried rice"...a melange of Carolina Gold rice and tiny bits of eggplant, pickled pears & ginger-kanzuri sauce. First the bad part...though a long grain rice, the Carolina Gold was entirely too starchy and mushy to fry up into nice toasted individual grains that a good fried rice requires...the result was almost risotto-like in texture...nevertheless, the bits of pickled pears did give a nice acidic bite. And the duck was fantastic, marinated with hoisin and sous-vided to a perfect medium-rare, then grilled just long enough to get a char on the skin. It was tender, juicy and just delicious. On the other hand, my Monkfish ($28.00) with chanterelle mushrooms, polenta & red wine brown butter sauce was bland and completely unseasoned. Though the medallions of fish were nicely cooked and reminiscent of lobster, the sauce was completely tasteless and watery. They also forgot to salt the polenta as well...good thing there were salt and pepper shakers on the table. Admittedly, I was still a little hungry at this point. Acre was the first restaurant we've been to in Memphis to show a little refinement...smaller portions artfully presented...just our luck! But desert was satisfyingly rich. We shared the Apple Custard Cake ($8.00) with olive caramel, root beer ice cream & cinnamon brioche crumble. Though I could not taste the olive caramel, this was a great finish to our meal...not too sweet but dense and decadent. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here...along with three drinks between us, damage amounted to about $150...a little steep considering it was not that much food. The ambiance and service is great though the food is just good...I am inclined to return to check out their bar menu.

Once a month, some friends and I get together for what we call Fancy Food Monday. We take turns choosing a restaurant, and this time it was my turn. Acre is kind of hidden. It is not on a restaurant street and it is in a house that looks like a log cabin inside. We each ordered a different appetizer and a different main course, so that we could try as much as possible. One friend ordered the goat cheese ravioli. It wasn't a traditional ravioli, but it was great, nonetheless. My absolute favorite was tomato tartare and we decided it was surrounded by fried hummus sticks. They have cooked octopus I've had it before but normally it was a sushi dish. This was probably my 2nd favorite. I ordered the pâté. I think this was my first time having it. It was very good, but very rich. A little went a long way. I'd order it again, but I'd probably rather have less. On to the main courses... We all had differing opinions as to which was the best. We agreed that everything was good, so it's probably a matter of personal taste. One friend had the Wild Striped Bass. Personally, this was my least favorite. It tasted like really good fish, but it didn't stand out to me. Another one had the Sturgeon. This is my new favorite fish. It was so meaty. I will definitely order this in the future next time I see it on a a menu. It's like grouper, but even better. Also it was sitting on a bed of brussel sprouts and bacon. It was delish. I love red meat. I love rare meat. I love lamb. This was my absolute favorite of the evening. It was on a bed of polenta a collard greens. To die for... Another friend had the Braised Angus Beef Short rib. This may not have been my favorite, but this was probably the most tender meat I have ever eaten. It literally almost melted in your mouth. And no fancy meal can be complete without a dessert. The waiter talked us into this one. He said it was one of their signature desserts... date cake. It was good. I'm more of a chocolate person, but everyone loved it. More up my style is Milk Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cremeux. It came with whoppers on the side. I don't care for them. However this was delicious. It is more mousse like than anything. Acre did not disappoint. I also noticed that they have a bar menu. I may have to go back there for the bar menu and try the burger and the truffle potato chips. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis.

Once again my most charming dinner companion and I decided to celebrate Thursday and we headed to Acre. I've passed this restaurant many times without realizing it and its neighbors all along the street are commercial businesses and not single family homes so getting there is a trick if you don't know where you are going. The food: He started with a Martini and I had a signature Cuba Libre. It was reported , while the Martini wasn't terrible it certainly wasn't memorable. I enjoyed my rum-and-coke. I like their house-blend syrups and the liberal pour. The salads were excellent. The lightest of dressings but still the rightest amount. He had the lamb. I had the sturgeon. Overall the main courses were nice. I'm not sure I'll try sturgeon again. He had some toffee yummy and I had a banana tartlet. Not much to comment there. The service: The service was smooth. Our person was calm and knowledgeable. I will make a comment that the dining room looked like a spread for Pottery Barn. The white and beige with rustic touches left me flat.

This restaurant was absolutely flawless when it came to atmosphere. What a perfect getaway! Everything from the seating to the decor! I can't stop thinking about it. I enjoyed the variety of the menu, however I felt the lunch menu needed a little more oomph in its options. The food was really great, then again I'm not very critical. What really bumped my rating from a 3 to a 4 star was the desserts. I didn't dare to try any, because they all sounded so evilly decadent, but the homemade ice cream flavors really sold me! Overall I think Acre deserves the 4 stars for its atmosphere, lovely service, and quality food. It wasn't anything to rave about but it was quite perfect, in the sense that it hit the spot exactly for the perfect fancy lunch break!

I've been meaning to write this review for months. This was definitely one of the standout restaurants that I visited during my trip to Memphis. What a beautiful restaurant. The building and decor were great - it felt rustic yet posh at the same time. The menu offerings were great. We ordered the lentil soup, crab cake, rib eye and striped bass. I don't recall what my mothe rordered but all of it was delicious. We also ordered the sticky toffee date cake and the pumpkin pistachio bars. The toffee cake was AMAZING but I could've passed on the pumpkin pistachio bars. The bars were somewhat tasteless, but the toffee cake more than made up for it. The restaurant had a good crowd and a nice ambience.I would definitely recommend this place to out-of-towners (like myself) for a nice meal while in Memphis and for a special occasion if you're local. The service was great and the owner was very nice. Only in Memphis do owners of restaurants actually hang out in the restaurant and greet guests...if only San Francisco would catch on. I'm bummed I don't live in Memphis to eat here more often. I'll definitely be back on my next trip.

My wife and I have been in Memphis for over a year and a half and have yet to say "wow," after eating at a restaurants here. That is, until we had drinks and appetizers in the bar at Acre. The ambiance was clearly thought out, well designed, and executed. The wait staff courteous, knowledgeable and well groomed. Drinks were well mixed and appropriately priced for their quality and creativity. The chef clearly has a passion for food, and understands the importance of presentation. The only time there was a pause in my enthusiasm for this restaurant was related to the overly salted chick pea fries, and the horrible wedding reception music playing [at an appropriate volume] in the background. Cannot wait to go back for dinner soon.

we decided to go someplace new for our anniversary dinner. someplace new that we had never been to before. We read reviews before we went and made a reservation. The house that was renovated into the restaurant space is very nice. you pull in the driveway and get valet service. That's classy touch on their part. Inside it is decorated with rustic charm and is dark yet inviting. The service we received was adequate but i felt like it was a little on the snooty side. Some of the other couples must have been regulars because they received prompter and friendlier service. a couple was there at the same time as us. they received their courses more promptly. There was a large lag time from the first appetizer to the other appetizers and also from the appetizers to the entrees. I have been to a few fine dining restaurants in san francisco and never was the service like we experienced at acre. Maybe it was just the server we had. i guess since we were not regulars that we got the not as concerned service. Also, a note, the restaurant is dimly lit so it pretty hard to read the menu which is lightly printed. most people used the flashlight app on their phones to see it. They do provide candles. We started with appetizers. We got the salsify clam soup (think thinner than chowder clam corn soup), tomato tartare, and the sweetbread special. i like fried sweetbreads. these were delicate and very thymus flavored. the tomato tartare was the one dish people reviewed and raved about. i thought there should be more tomato in relation to all those chickpea logs that they give you. the chickpea logs are a little too salty for me and there are just too many. i also would have liked more acid to balance it out. as for entress, the hubs got the steak which was tasty. i chose the monkfish with polenta. The monkfish was fine. The sauce served with it was a buttery and delicious. There was not enough sauce on the dish in my opinion. the red wine brown butter sauce makes that dish. The pricing on the entrees was not bad and the sizes of the entrees were large. the hubs got a cocktail made with moonshine. i think it was one of their signature or custom cocktails. He also got a red wine with dinner. For dessert, we decided to split another rave item--the sticky toffee pudding date cake. It was tasty. i would have liked a little more vanilla ice cream to go with it. All in all, it was pretty good food. I think if we go back that we will just sit in the bar area next time and order the bar menu food. Our dinner was supposed to be a special occasion celebration and somehow i felt a little less welcome there than other restaurants.

I came here for dinner on a Saturday night and my fiancé and I ordered the scallops and ribeye (see pictures). The scallops were yummy but the food here is mediocre at best. The restaurant is beautiful and has adorable decor but we probably won't be returning for the food itself.

What a joke. This is a wannabe place where people go to feel like they're someone. Food was okay. The atmosphere was the stand out of the evening. Please read all the reviews on here... is anyone raving about the food? Not really. It's all about the atmosphere. Waiter was incredibly rude for no reason, turning his nose up at guests (that contribute to paying his hourly wage) upon ordering a beer. Group of 5 women out enjoying an evening at dinner. His nose snubbed when saying "we're more of a wine place, we don't serve a lot of beer here." Then remarking "I brought you a glass but I'm sure you don't even want one." Very pretentious. I have shared this will a few other of my foodie friends and they stated they experienced the same service and haven't returned. No reason to act this way. You can still be an excellent restaurant AND have your customers leaving having had a pleasant dining experience. Won't go back but will tell everyone about it. Get over yourself Acre wait staff. Not impressed. I would have contacted management but was with a group of people and didn't want anyone to feel uncomfortable. If Acre management wants to contact me about my review, please do as I would love to share my experience.

Arguably the best restaurant in Memphis. The ambience and service are the benchmark for future Memphis establishments. We've been three times now. First was for the Roast Suckling Pig dinner and what a way to start. I've eaten all over the world and this experience is in the top five. Everything about the evening was more than we expected and we brought home as much food as we ate. Second was a lovely dinner for four. The menu is so full of enticing items it's very hard to choose. I actually had three appetizers and had I been able to eat more I would've ordered them all again. The cheese course is by far the best cheese course for miles. The third time didn't shine as bright as the first two. We like Maryland crab cakes (99% crab, 1% other) this is not that. We went with veal and duck and neither were memorable. I think we'll stick with seafood courses next time. We want to do the pig again soon!!!

Acre never disappoints. You can eat at the bar without reservations or eat in the beautiful dining area with reservations. Order a cocktail--their mixologists have concocted some great combinations. They change the cocktails depending on the season and what is fresh. Can't go wrong with a berry Cosmo. If you are at the bar, you can order from both bar & dinner menus. At bar: duck pastrami hash, truffle potato chips, & burger are excellent. On dinner menu, the tomato tartare is gorgeous and delicious with chickpea fries. And the scallops, gnocchi, and short ribs shine. Menu varies seasonally which makes for wonderful choices and reasons to return regularly. The flavors of all of their dishes are perfectly balanced. In nice weather, sit outside, the patio is relaxing and very pleasant. The staff and service is wonderful, and chef-owner Wally Joe is always around checking on his customers. This is one of the few gems in Memphis.

What an awesome place for dinner. The ambiance is wonderful. We set outside on the patio that has been well designed with lots of stone work and trees. Enjoy when the weather is so perfect. We had the tomato soup, Gnocchi and Cote De Boeuf for dinner. The Gnocchi even allows you to have an appetizer size which is perfect. Try the Financier for dessert, warm brown butter cake, preserved blueberries with whipped cream. The interior has a wonderful unique atmosphere. This is a must for a "local" place to eat in Memphis. Will definitely go there again.

To get right to the point the atmosphere at Acre was great and the food was unique and creative however not worth the price in my opinion. The food was good but not great. It a good place to try once however not a place you would keep coming back to. Here is a breakdown of what we had and what we thought about it: Starters Lobster Lasagna - The was out favorite started dish. Very good! Misty Point Oysters - Not bad. Warm Mozzarella Salad - Not bad Butternut Squash Soup - Very good! A couple of people in the part felt it was a little rich to each a whole bowl of it however I could : ) Main Dish Sea Scallop - Very good. Pan Roasted Ribeye - This was our favorite dish. The only criticism is that it was a small dish and I have had better. It's hard to compete with a great chop house. Truffle Studded Chicken - This was our least favorite dish mainly because it was a little dry. 72 Hour Braised Short ribs - This was our second favorite. The mashed potatoes were excellent. Again the dish was very small for the price.

Acre is a beautiful restaurant located in the heart of the south. But do not let the location fool you, this is a TOP, TOP restaurant. The renovated house were the restaurant is located is beautifully decorated, modern, but yet very hospitable. The old world light bulbs, the wooden interior, the large photographies all make this a top dining experience that has to be experienced. The food is modern American with a European flair. Light, very tasty, and just the right size. The kampachi crudo, the tomato tartar are classic dishes that are super delicious. As a main dish the Monkfish is very well cooked, and paired well with mushrooms and polenta. The staff is very professional, and you never feel that they try to oversell you or interrupt. All in all this is one of the best restaurants that we have visited, and a gem in the south.

From the moment you pull in to the impeccably landscaped drive and hand your keys over to the friendly valet, be prepared for an intriguing and impeccable experience. ACRE is located in a residential-turned-commercial block of mid-century houses that have been converted into businesses. The decor alone is so welcoming, including many wooden accents (walls, light fixtures, etc.), lending itself to a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Arrive early for a drink at the bar prior to seating, and sample one of the half-dozen or so seasonal cocktails, or any number of the wines by the glass. The appetizer selection is diverse, from soups to salads to shellfish to pork to rabbit - we had the crab cake and oysters this night, and they couldn't have been more complementary. The oysters were light and refreshing, without the typically associated ocean flavor. The crab cake was savory and chock full of crab meat. I also had the tomato tartar as a salad - the little chickpea "logs" that housed the pile of diced tomatoes and goat cheese are a delight on their own! Having difficulty deciding on my dinner entree, I allowed the server to choose for me. He arrived at the table with a striped bass entree, which looked small at first but I was more than full when I was finished. My dining companions both had the sea scallops and neither offered to share a bite! Service was spot on at all points- valet to hostess to bartender to server - Owner Wally Joe even delivered one of our courses to the table, and checked on us during and after our meal. We skipped dessert this round, but I will definitely be back once these New Year's resolutions stop ringing in my ears. In the meantime, I can't wait to return to ACRE for Happy Hour and a light dinner in the bar area, where they have a separate, scaled down menu but the same warm atmosphere and attentive service.

Legit. I feel like I'm dining in Napa or California in general when I'm here. Excellent bartenders (they make their own moonshine, it was legalized in TN a few years ago!) who make every cocktail perfect. The food is adventurous at times, and it usually pays off. (Duck pastrami!) We can never pass up the foie gras as an appetizer or their crab cake, both amazing. This the only restaurant in Memphis my husband and I go to on the rare date nights we get because the food and atmosphere remind us of home so much, and there is nothing else in Memphis that even comes close. The portion sizes are pretty big for a restaurant of this caliber, I am positive Wally Joe knows his audience- old white southern dudes who can easily polish off three giant lamb chops. The wine list is great and extensive(again, old white dudes) and their signature cocktails are off the chain. The servers are all way above par, they must be from Nashville! P.s. house made peanut butter ice cream.

This restaurant is a great addition to some wonderful new additions in Memphis. Chef Andrew Adams created an incredibly diverse lunch menu with lots of different flavors, something to please everyone (including vegetarians). Our group had the shrimp potstickers to start and we ate them up. I had the quinoa tabouleh and a salad with goat cheese and beets and they were both delicious and well-presented. Others in the group enjoyed the hanger steak, mushroom agnolotti and a salad with cashews, brocolli and mandarin oranges. Our clean plates were evidence of our satisfaction. Perfect lunch portions. We saved room for a dark choloate mousse that had some kind of blackberry reduction. We cleaned that plate, too. The space is also just cool: decor, seating, decorations. And they have a private room with giant wall-mounted plasma tv. Would be a great private place to watch the NBA finals with friends. Our service was good and they just got their liquor license today so in addition to beer, wine and hard liquor will soon be available. I'd recommend this to those in Memphis as well as anyone visitng from a big city looking to have something more sophisticated than Memphis BBQ without a NYC-sized bill.

Unparalleled atmosphere, good service, and above average food. This place had been on my must-try list since moving to Memphis, and the wife and I finally found an excuse to celebrate there a couple of Saturdays ago. Much has been written about the stunning decor, and I agree completely. There have also been a number of negative reviews criticizing the food. Based solely on my one experience there, I understand some of the criticism but feel it may be too harsh. We ordered an appetizer, two entrees, and dessert (more on that later); and the appetizer and entrees were good, but not out-of-this-world. Judging the food alone, I'd give it a 3.75 out of 5. I suspect that some of the negative reviews stem from extremely high -- but unmet -- expectations (fueled by the media hype this place has receieved as well as the elegant ambiance). Their sticky toffee pudding dessert demands special acclaim. Not knowing that this was their specialty, we actually ordered one of the other desserts. To our surprise, our waiter informed us that a table to my six had taken the liberty of ordering dessert for us -- the sticky toffee pudding. Our surprise turned to curiosity (and some discomfort) when we realized that we had absolutely no idea who our benefactors were. The dessert-gifters left soon thereafter without stopping to introduce themselves or even provide an opportunity for us to acknowledge their act. It appeared to be a random act of kindness (or, more likely -- as I later pieced together -- they intended the dessert to go to the table next to us, occupied by a young couple with roughly similar features). Regardless, the sticky toffee pudding was exceptional, and not just because it was free. Don't go without trying it. Overall, the wife and I were happy. This is a solid choice for a relaxing and elegant special treat, but you'll enjoy it even more if you keep your expectations in check. And to our dessert-gifters who may be waiting in futility for some sign of gratitude from the young couple for whom the pudding was intended: gracias!

One of the most beautifully decorated restaurants in Memphis! It's rustic/modern. I haven't had a chance to sample a lot of the food yet... But the duck sausage was very good, and the cocktail menu is very unique. (I got the South Sea Soda...and it was very good...but it's an acquired taste.) great date night place for sure!

The first thing I have to say about this place is WOW! I was fortunate to dine at ACRE for dinner in its opening week and the experience was incredible. The first thing you notice is just how beautiful the property itself is. The restaurant looks and feels more like a home than a business. The grounds are beautiful with the valet-serviced parking lot hidden neatly at the back of the property. Inside, the decor is gorgeous. The ambiance is very rustic with wood paneled walls reminiscent of a barn, huge windows offering amazing views of the meticulous landscaping, and fantastic artwork including wild horses and, of course the requisite Elvis Presley. The back bar was my first stop for some wine to start the evening. The bar staff was friendly and attentive, and, as a Californian, I was happy to see a respectable selection of decent to great California wines available. My meal consisted of a delicious mixed greens salad with the perfect amount of dressing - just enough to bring out some amazing flavors, but not so much as to overpower the course. For the main course, I went with the ribeye steak, medium rare, served with trumpet mushrooms, carrots, and potato medallions. The steak was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. I often find that restaurants do a poor job of cooking meat medium rare, but such was not a problem here. Paired with an amazing California Cab, this was a memorable course. Dessert was a fresh berry tart, which was delivered to the table by the owner, himself. Even people who don't like dessert would have enjoyed this. If I have one criticism, it would be that the dining room wait staff were a bit underwhelming. They were certainly fine, but they could have been slightly more attentive. That said, this was opening week and the place was swarming, so I'm more than willing to cut them some slack in this area. On the whole, this was an amazing dining experience and is truly not to be missed if you're looking for a fine dining experience outside downtown Memphis. As I was leaving, the owner was at the door, and I made sure to let him know just how much I enjoyed the evening, and that his restaurant rivaled many of the fine restaurants I've had the pleasure of enjoying in California.

Loved the ambience and wine list- both superb. Would go back for these two things. Tomato tartar and date cake dessert were the absolute highlights if the meal. The food itself was good, albeit a bit heavy. Overall really enjoyed the experience... just not quite a 5.

The place is beautifully landscaped and decorated with natural wood, treated mirrors and various kinds of interesting light ornaments and fixtures. The green salad was good, with just the right amount of dressing and additions. The truffle studded chicken was delicious, mellow, filling and went perfectly with the white wine we ordered (of which I unfortunately forgot the name). The only con was the patios mosquitoes. They have an underground repellant system but it didn't work at all. The staff was quick to help with bug spray but we had already been bitten to death. After dinner, I had some peanut butter ice cream, sticky date cake and coffee. All very tasty and rich. The staff were very accommodating, prompt, kind and knowledgeable. Five stars I'm sure, if you bring your own bug repellant or sit inside.

Was on business in Memphis and looking for a place for a lunch with a cilent. Decided on Acre and was NOT disappointed. FIrst of all, the decor alone is breathtaking. It was a topic of conversation repeatedly throughout the meal. Such a charming, warm atmosphere. Our waiter was very helpful with recommendations and we were taken very good care of. Then there was the food. Had the duck pastrami hash and poached eggs. So delicious. My colleague had the deckle pastrami sandwich and said it was equally good. Finished the meal with sticky datie cake and butternut squash ice cream (imagine what Thanksgiving would taste like were it a flavor). What a fabulous find!

I've been fortunate enough to eat at Acre twice in the last few months. Talk about a hidden gem. A great, intimate but relaxed atmosphere and of course wonderful food - and a fun little bar. Subtle and brilliant.

Took my project team for dinner. Very difficult to find at night as signage is subtle and unlit; location is in a upscale residential area and the restaurant itself could be mistaken for a mansion. Inside is clean and comfortable. Staff is extremely friendly. I was greeted by Wally himself who is very gracious. I had very tasty mixed green salad with teasingly bits of home made mozzarella; walleye which is rare to see on menus but highly recommended - though it wasn't fully seasoned in my opinion; and fruit loops ice cream. Yep you heard it right, fruit loops ice cream. Toucan Sam couldn't be more proud. Two thumbs up.

Our second trip to Acre was a let down in the most disappointing sense. We weren't letdown by food or the atmosphere but our experience was degraded solely based upon our treatment by James, our waiter. The evening was supposed to be special, a romantic and enjoyable date but was diminished by James' obvious assumptions of who we weren't. The two older couples at the table next to us received the highest level or service and accommodations by James yet when it was our turn, we were ignored, then rushed and left unattended to where we felt we were inconveniencing him by being there. As a young couple, affluent or not, I do not recommend coming to Acre if James is your waiter. On a positive note, the menu is creatively crafted with appetizing offerings from start to finish. The cocktails are always well balanced and enjoyable.

Fantastic place! The redesign of the restaurant is nothing short of inspiring. I recommend you go early and experience the bar for pre meal drink. The food is prepared with style and great flavor. We were a party of 4 and everyone found there dinner was perfect. Highly recommend, if you like Flight you will love Acre!

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at Acre for the second time this past weekend. Our experience was perfect from beginning to end. The valet parking is a very nice touch. I had a lighter dinner compiled of the mixed green salad and tomato tartar. Both were excellent. My husband ordered the duck; which was delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection. Everyone in our party was very satisfied with their meal and cocktails. Our server Miller was very attentive and knowledgeable. Wally Joe came by at the end of the meal and thanked us for coming. I look forward to enjoying their patio this spring.

I was seriously impressed. Coming to Memphis, you might not expect to see something like this. ACRE has rustic charm, but still with some classy stylings. Warm woods and accents of country style living had me feeling like Laura Ingalls Wilder once I stepped inside. We were met with great service at the bar. Our bartender (I forget her name, bless her) but she gave some wonderful Southern hospitality as she poured me a magnificient Gibson. We noshed off the bar menu sharing a delicious burger, Kimchee fries (WTH, can someone bring that to California to rival Carne Asada Fries?), and some steamed pork buns. Not your normal usual Memphis fare, but what a wonderful treat. When I'm back, I'll definitely be back. You can count on that.

The interior designer should be commended for the design of Acre Restaurant. The restaurant has a great atmosphere. My girlfriend had a hard time trying to find an appetizer she would like. She finally settle for corn soup. The weather was a bit chilly and soup sounded good. I had the Kampachi Ceviche. The first bite into the Ceviche wasn't too impressed but the flavor builds on every bite and was quite delicious. I love the jalapeno pepper on the ceviche. The corn soup was a let down. I like the chorizo in the soup but the soup was serve warm and we didn't like it. I had the Corvina with pork belly dumpling. My girlfriend had the scallop and Gnocchi. Both dishes were good but not great. Fish had the perfect sear on top and dumpling skin had a good chewy texture. I like them individually but with a sweet broth combined, the dish wasn't cohesive. I did taste my girlfriend's scallops. They were cooked perfectly. Dessert was where the restaurant shines. My girlfriend had the Sticky Toffee Cake and I had the Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cremeux. It was my girlfriend's birthday so I didn't try to steal her Sticky Toffee Cake. The Chocolate Peanut Cremeux was tasty but we both really enjoyed the Sticky Toffee Cake. Overall, this restaurant has a great romantic atmosphere. We had a great time. I really enjoyed the Kampachi and Chocolate Peanut Cremeux. Both, I would order again. The entree, I would probably try something different on the menu.

Wonderful atmosphere, wonderful food!!! Crab cakes and shrimp wontons for our appetizers. Butternut squash soup and green salad. Scallop poboy (lunch special on 1/16/2011) and the ramen noodle hot pot. Finished off by two fantastic desserts, milk chocolate-peanut butter cremeaux and sticky toffee date cake. All were top notch perfect and the service to match.
