When friends or coworkers suggest sushi for lunch, we don't even have to discuss where. It's a given that we're going to Sake. I have eaten lunch here on average twice a month for the past 5 years. During that time, I've learned what time to get there so as to avoid the rush, because if you go at prime time, service can be slow. But get there before 11:45 or after 1 p.m., and it's usually quite fast. I've eaten alot of sushi in my life, and I honestly can say that Sake has the best salmon sashimi I've ever eaten. It's like buttah! I would eat a plate full if I could afford it. Next best thing is the L.A. Maki Roll- salmon, asparagus, mango and cucumber. Fresh, so fresh, exciting, it's so exciting to me.....

Great sushi joint. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices. I had a spicy tuna roll and a crunchy shrimp roll. Dynamite rolls are great too. Love this place.

What's with all the rave reviews of this place? After waiting 45 minutes for my Chirashi-don, I canceled my order. The sushi chef then comes to our table and offers a $5 discount....wtf? don't you understand? I canceled my order after waiting 45 minutes for you to slice a dozen sashimi pieces and place them on a bed of rice. What a joke. There were only three other parties in the restaurant. wtf? My kids ordered udon, which wasn't edible. The "chef" in the kitchen reduced the broth into some gelatinous "thing" and called it, "udon." I've been to many bastardized J-restaurants in my day, usually owned by Chinese folk like this shop, but udon is *really* hard to f-up. These guys f'd it up to new levels. My other son ordered gyu-don, which is typically thinly-sliced beef served on a bed of rice. what a joke. i should have taken a picture. fit for a dog. certainly not fit for a human. so, after i canceled my chirashi-don order, i asked for the check and offered to pay for the "udon" and "gyu-don" but the server pretended not to understand me...i had to approach the sushi chef to politely request the check, at which time he tried to convince me to stay and eat the chirashi-don, which was now ready after 60 minutes....i hate to make a scene in a restaurant out of respect for other patrons but i had to do it.... if you're into rolls (sushi?), then perhaps this place may work for you. if you want something a bit more authentic, drive to Atlanta.

We LOVE Sake!! My husband & I come here often! We love their fresh sushi, dumplings, miso soup and salad. Some of our favorites are; Joe Roll, Volcano roll, Crunchy crab roll, Tuna Roll, and Virginia Roll (deep fried). Its a great place for 'date night' bc its small and quite. The girls that are servers have been here for a while and are always sweet. Even though they have limited seating we have never had to wait for more than maybe 10 mins.

Completely unassuming, but fantastic! I had salmon and white tuna nigiri, a spicy tuna roll, and a shrimp tempura roll. Excellent! The nigiri was slightly smaller than I've seen other places, but still a perfect serving. The rolls were prepared artfully with amazingly fresh ingredients. Of all of the sushi that I've had in the Cool Springs area, these guys take top rank on freshness and taste. The staff is very friendly; available, but not overbearing. Because of its location, the ambiance leaves a little to be desired, but real foodies won't care in the least.

This place has turned into one of our staples. We go here about once every two months. The sushi is good. I crave the ginger dressing they put on the salad. Staff is usually friendly and can be slow if they are busy. If you go order something you've never heard of. Go with the special rolls. You'll be happy you did.

I'm really torn here. I really wanted to give this place three stars because it's on the pricier end of sushi (but it is in franklin) and the rolls are downright small. A mildly hungry guy like myself would need three rolls to be full. Sushi rolls run $10-15, Sashimi is in the $5-8 range. However, the rolls had excellent taste and were prepared by a true Japanese gentleman, not a Hispanic as most hibachi and sushi restaurants have moved to. Nothing derogatory implied there but it's rare to see a true Japanese sushi master at work these days.

So I NEVER do this EVER, but my family and I just had THE WORST EXPERINCE and sat down at one of our oldest and favorite sushi restaurants in Cool Springs [SAKE] that is apparently now under new ownership. Myself and my youngest son already ate dinner so we met my wife and oldest son to sit with them while they ate. The server said that they couldn't serve us because we are only ordering for 2 people and we aren't [spending enough] for a party of 4 or more. I shared that me and my youngest were not eating. They said "we are sorry sir, but we can't serve you because of this rule." I have honesty NEVER heard of such a thing, and am gladly but stressfully now loading up my two kids under 10 and taking our business across the street to FUJI Sushi and will NEVER be back to SAKE. I truly hope that the new ownership learns how to treat their customers some day!!!

Quick, delicious, and great specials! This small Japanese lunch hotspot in Franklin/Cool Springs won't have you stuffed after one roll, but with a large selection to choose from you won't be disappointed. Roll prices run $4.50-$14.50

Stripmall Japanese in a place where it isn't common to find. I've been here a couple times for lunch now and have been solidly impressed. Cool Springs isn't exactly an area known for great Japanese fare, but this place seems pretty solid. The sake and beer selections are nice (I'm quite a fan of their cold apple sake) and their bento box lunch does make the cut as far as a good thing to grab when you're able to escape from your office for a bit. What really stands out on their menu as opposed to most strip mall Japanese/sushi joints is the fact that they have a few Korean offerings, which is what I sampled today. Dolsot bibimbap. How I love you. Ricey, eggy, vegetabley, meaty, served in a stone bowl pulled out of the volcanic fires of Mordor. The last bite burns your mouth just as much as the first and you could probably use the bowl to heat your house for a week afterwards. This is how it's supposed to be. Sake comes relatively close. Sake's is pretty good, considering you're ordering a Korean dish at a Japanese place in Cool Springs. It's also the only bibimbap in town, so there's that. If you want real Korean, go to Antioch and grab a table at So Gong Dong Tofu House or Seoul Garden. One of my dining partners had the bulgogi (another Korean dish) and she said it was pretty good as well. I like Sake and I'll be going back as long as I'm stuck in the culinary wasteland that is Cool Springs. At least I can get some fish, some rice, and some sake.

After a bad experience and leaving another place, I remember Sake. I hadn't been here in a long time but we will be back. I think it is now one of my daughter's favorite places. For $2 less than what that other place wanted for just tempura and rice, here I got very good tempura, an egg roll, 2 deep fried goyza that were wonderful, 4 pieces of California roll, rice, and a salad. Daughter thinks their salad was the best salad with ginger dressing she's ever had. Also loved the deep fried goyza. Everything was good. They are very friendly, greet you the minute you walk in and when you leave. Check on you. And service is prompt.

What a disappointment... The food tastes and looks like it was frozen and reheated for presentation. Kani salad was a wet plate of cucumber with one little stick of crab meat. Shumai is clearly not made in house and reheated. Teriyaki is not even grilled with a bunch of bland sauce dumped on it. WORST OF ALL, HOWEVER, is the OLD SUSHI that is disguised with a ton of salt. That is potentially unsafe and I am not risking my health because they are cutting corners. There was also rice in the middle of the roll. What a cheap place, wow. I would never return to this place in a million years.

Great sushi, quick and friendly service and the prices were fair!! There were not a whole lot of customers there which my wife and i found surprising. we suspected they did a great lunch business given the location. There seemed to be quite a few people placing carry out orders. Very good!

Unusual selection of "broiled and baked" rolls, including one with lobster and shrimp, which I found delightfu. Plenty of tiny shrimp, and tasty lobster pieces. Their array of Japanese beers is broader than the average. Friendly, fast, and helpful service in a bright and cheerful venue. Also offers several Korean menu items, which I'll try next time.

Sake was my Second Sushi today & I really enjoyed it. You can pay $18-20 per roll up at Wild Ginger and that may or may not come with a side of Music Industry Greatness. I give a shit where Keith Urban and the like get their sushi on - I really liked Sake and for the price, you can't beat it. First, it's in a nondescript strip mall - should you need to get yo' drank on after, there is the super awesome Cool Springs Wine & Liquor right next door. Don't let the location put you off - these people are serving up some delicious fish! The rolls are cheap - in the $9-14 range for 8 pcs of special maki goodness. I ordered the Dragon (salmon, avo, crab, other stuff) as well as the Joe (crab, shrimp, tuna, other stuff) and was very happy with the freshness, taste and overall presentation. I was at Wild Ginger for lunch and the rolls here are 1/2 the price but just as tasty. Service was fast & friendly with only a slight bit of language barrier. If you're in the area and are looking for delicious, reasonably priced sushi then hit up Sake!

I lived in the Franklin/Nashville area for two years or so. BEST sushi around and the prices are incredible! I can eat my weight in sushi here!! This is my all-time favorite sushi restaurant. Hands down.

No longer a big fan of this place. Service has dropped and food quality has dropped a good bit - hibachi and sushi. There always seems t be tension in the air from the employees and manager and not sure why. But, it shows. Used to be be a huge fan but lots of declines while price continues to go up

We were searching for a local restaurant to eat lunch at and decided to eat here after seeing good reviews. The first thing that I didn't care for was that they had gumball/candy machines up front which reminded me of a buffet style restaurant. The restaurant was quite small and was lacking exciting/vibrant decor. The decor and ambiance will not be very memorable, but the food will be! My sushi and Chicken Teriyaki was very good. Our waitress was very friendly and the food came out very quickly- almost to quickly because we hadn't finished our soup and salads! This restaurant was good, but nothing spectacular. Although, if I was craving sushi and in the area I would definately give it another try.

Great, fresh sushi! Place is tucked away off the main road in a strip mall, but still easy to find. Food is fresh and fair-priced. My go-to sushi place in the Brentwood area!

Love this place! Food is always fresh and fantastic. The Joe roll is to die for! Nom Nom Nom and I've always had great service even when they've been really busy.

Freshest sushi in the area. Best sushi/sashimi since my visit to Japan. Zero smell and clean taste. The rolls are beautiful works of art. And super friendly staff. Come in smiling and leave gleaming. My go-to sushi spot from now on.

I am a sushi newbie, but have tried out about 5 different sushi places in the area. This one was simply the best! Fast service, Courteous staff, and the sushi is so good I could probably eat it every day for the rest of my life. No seriously, GO HERE! :-)

  • Nancy L.

The food is acceptable, with the exception of the iceberg only salad, that is not worth eating. My biggest issue with this place is when the final amount came through on my credit card they had increased the tip. Possibly this was an accident, but when I called and asked to speak to the manager the lady who answered the phone said, "I'm sorry manager not here." And then just hung up!!! Well, I called back and without answering they just hung up. It will be interesting to see how long they stay in business. Drakes and Peter's Sushi are close by and have much better sushi and customer service.

This is by far my favorite Japanese restaurant, and has the best sushi I've ever had. I've tried many things on the menu and been pleased every time. The service is wonderful, as all the people working there are courteous and very responsive. The atmosphere is great, as it is usually fairly quiet and peaceful. I LOVE this place.

How come I've never written a review for this place before?! Easily my favorite sushi place in Franklin. The service has always been great. Every roll I've ever ordered was great too - although, I learned that they put some sort of weird sauce on some of their rolls that tastes like BBQ chips. It's not bad, just odd - I make sure I ask first now. I can't remember the names of the rolls that have the sauce but you could certainly ask. **Note: some person tried to tell me that this is eel sauce....no, young grasshopper, this is most certainly NOT eel sauce. But nice attempt at condescension. :) About food other than sushi: I really like their tempura udon, and I most appreciate that they bring the tempura shrimp out on a separate little plate. I'm fine with them being in the soup, but it's also nice to have them nice and crunchy with the soup. We've also ordered the veggie tempura which was really good. I am pretty sure we've ordered other appetizers, but we've coming here for so long and been here so many times that I can't remember. They also have very inexpensive wine if you're after that. Good but not extensive selection of sake and beer. My only criticism is that the atmosphere can be a little too quiet (they need to play some music or something). I know they are open for lunch on Saturdays, and I am 90% sure on Sundays, which can be a rare find. Just know that they do not open until noon. I arrived a little after 11 one Saturday and realized that!

My fiance and I are regular customers here, and their food is always amazing. I love how fresh and delicious their sushi is, and their miso soup and salad is always good as well. I have become addicted to their ginger dressing, which has a very unique flavor to it. I always order at least 2 or 3 rolls...mainly the crunchy crab, yellowtail, and california. All are always fresh and wonderful. I also love their chicken gyoza, which is very delicious. My fiance has ordered one of their udon soups at least once, and I tried it and found it to be very good! The service is always great, and their staff is wonderful. I will continue to be a regular! :)

My favorite sushi place I've found so far in this area. Super clean. Nice staff. Amazing food! Having moved here from Southern California I am a bit of a sushi snob, so coming here I was a little hesitant, as there are no oceans super close. But the fish is always fresh and never has that gross fishy taste. I can easily compare this to some of my favorite places in California. For me it passes with flying colors! Another big thing for me is weak wasabi. But their wasabi is anything but! A little goes a long way. Love this place. I recommend the Godzilla roll as well as the golden dream. Sometimes the wait for food can be long but with food that good who cares?

I enjoy their lunch specials, and their rolls are pretty good. Unassuming place, nice friendly service, and clean atmosphere. Good variety for the menu and prices are reasonable. By far my favorite sushi spot for the Cool Springs area! Their nabeyaki udon disappoints, but they make up for it through their bento boxes!

Great lunch specials - a large variety of sushi to choose from for lunch.

  • Ash C.

Ohhh, where to start? Staff was okay, not friendly, but not hostile either. Miso was waaaay too salty, with not enough tofu or seaweed and no green onions. Ginger salad was okay. Edemame was the best thing we had. Sushi was the blandest I've ever had. At least it's cheap, but you get what you pay for.

One word: Unbelievable. As in it's unbelievable that after eating sushi in some of the best restaurants in Austin, New Jersey, St Louis, Boston, Providence, Manhattan, Palm Beach, and Nashville, my wife and I found the ABSOLUTE freshest, best-prepared sushi either of us have ever had in a strip mall in Franklin, TN. The rolls were not overly elaborate. The preparation added some texture and some spice without distracting me from the fish inside. The rice was not too cold or too warm and perfectly sticky. The nigiri was amazing. The white tuna and salmon were, quite simply, the freshest I've ever eaten. Sake will be, without a doubt, our go-to place for sushi whether we are just us or with friends or looking for a night out or a two-roll, carry-out meal after work. Best. Sushi. Evah.

Since writing my original review my, now fiance, and I have visited this place several times and every time we have had amazing service. The food here is always amazing and it is such a peaceful and nice place to eat. Recently I tried their Franklin and Dynamite rolls both of which were full of flavor and in the case of the dynamite roll, really spicy. I can;t say enough good things about this place. Along with the high quality of sushi, they are top notch with their presentation. Still, in my opinion one of my top six sushi bars in town.

Best Sushi in a landlocked city. This includes Chicago. Fish here was so dang fresh. If someone slapped you in the face with a trout here, instead of being offended, you may bite the darn thing. My absolute favorite here was the White tail tuna. Extremely buttery consistency, the fish just absolutely threw a party on top of my tongue. My co-worker also ordered a platter of fried veggies dipped in tempura batter. Delicioso! Another thing I loved about this place was the presentation. Usually sushi places have to put in some work to make their presentations stand out, but Sake destroys the competition. Like Dennis Miller once said, it's like trying to light a cigarette with a SCUD missile. No contest. Nashville, I envy you. . . .

Okay. Here's my review. When I started eating sushi 5 years ago I gave this place a pass because I read some bad reviews. Now, 5 years later, on a whim I take my wife just to try somewhere different. And I'm totally kicking my own ass! Based on the reviews on a few that didn't like the place, I had passed on a total gem! Since discovering this place we're going there two times a week! Very friendly staff, prompt service, great food. And this place is NEVER crowded. What a shame. This place ROCKS! To all the naysayers, blow it out your ass. Go get some overpriced sushi in Brentwood. This place is now on the list of favorites.

Half-chinese, half-Japanese owned restaurant serves up average sushi with the tri-Lam of lameness: limp, lukewarm and low on flavor. The wasabi was particularly substandard. The salad and miso were tolerable. The owner's family was eating chinese food.

Sake is probably become my go to place for sushi. For one thing, it's always fresh and the rice is always just the right consistency. I mostly go for lunch but have gone for dinner as well. Dinner was a little slow for me but they were busy and we thought maybe a little short staffed. My favorite thing to get on the menu is the lunch boxes with the roll combinations. Instead of having a lunch box that offers something like terryaki or tempura with a roll on the side you can get a combination of two or three rolls with a salad and soup. That usually can give me my fix. I have tried a little of the sashimi but not a lot yet. Salmon was very good.

When I lived in Cool Springs I used to eat here all the time. The sushi and hibachi are both good, much better than any other place near the mall. They have some really creative rolls and the prices are good, plus they have some great salad dressing.

This place has consistently served good food for years dating back to their odd Brentwood location. I just wish they would serve a little more fish I always leave either hungry or broke. Also there has been cleanliness issues.

I agree with Geoffrey on a couple of points: 1. Atmosphere - Not much to look at. It's low key and nothing fancy. 2. Regular menu - Average. Not great, but better than most of the other sushi bars in Cool Springs for the prices (Ohmikashi has a great menu, but you also PAY for it) 3. COOL party booth & out-of-the-way seating (less visible and more private) NOW the good news is that dollar for dollar - Sake is good sushi AND personable staff. Granted, sometimes the "eng-rish" is lacking, but that's ok! Sushi Roll Tip: try the Narudo roll [spicy, rolled with cucumber skin with fresh salmon, tuna, and crab stick]

  • Geoffrey L.

I've had their sushi and their lunch special before. I wasn't too impressed with their lunch special. It just seemed to lack a little. Their sushi, on the other hand, is pretty darn good. The atmosphere isn't anything special, but they do have a cool-looking room that seats a larger party (6-12?) in a more traditional japanese setting.
