Boyfriend and I recently moved to Hopkins so we have been exploring the local area. Sunday night we were hungry for Chinese so we went driving down Main Street. Glad we did because we found this gem. The customer service is what sold me on this place. The workers were super polite and attentive. We had take out but while we were there they treated us like eat in customers. Checking to see if we needed water and if everything was alright. The food was yummy. Your average Americanized Chinese food. We had the lo mein, egg foo young and fried rice. The egg foo young and the lo mein were delicious! The fried rice could use work but still satisfying.

I was eager to try this place after reviews on Yelp. I used to live on the west side of Minnetonka and had a go-to Chinese restaurant that I loved. Now, living on the east side of Minnetonka, I needed to find a new place close by & was hoping Jasmine Garden would be it! Upon walking into the restaurant, I was immediately worried. The place looks unkempt and unsanitary - whether it actually is or not. I wouldn't dine-in here. The staff is polite, but not overly friendly. I ordered a pint of Chicken & Broccoli. They were very generous on the broccoli, but I only got like 4 small pieces of chicken. The entree tasted good though for the price. The cream cheese wontons were average... a little lacking on the cream cheese (95% wonton/5% cream cheese). I may eat here again when in a pinch or time crunch, but it isn't going to be my new go-to. Bummer!

We ordered delivery from work at 11:00 this morning for delivery between 11:30 and noon at the latest. It arrived just before 1:00 PM. I leaving work at 12:30, I wound up staying until 1:00 to get my food. I brought it home and it was inedible. I wound up throwing over 1/2 of the "meal" away. Several of the other packages were delivered squished with food all over the bag that it was delivered in. I will NEVER order hear again. Poor service and terrible food! Avoid if you can. I would rate it 0 if I could. I just called to complain and they re - acted like I had a very usual complaint and only offered to put our orders to the front of the line in the future (I told him that I would not be ordering from them again).

I love chinese food...and I am a fan of the fast food chinese restaurants. When I moved out to the Minnetonka/Hopkins area I needed to know the local places. Jasmine Garden's had a good rating so I decided to go there. Now, my review comes from being there 3 times. Why three times? Because the food is pretty good. So that's the positive in this...their food is good. Negatives time: So the first time I went, really no complaints. However the second and third time...that's when it got bad. The second time I waited a good while for my food. It was slightly busy so I understood. I decided to pay attention to how the business was run. Seemed like a local family owns the place. They talk about a lot of personal stuff in front of their customers. One of the kids that works there, he was helping cook the food and decided to listen to music while he did. He had headphones, but what was pretty gross was after he handled his phone, he didn't wash his hands. That is not sanitary at all! The third visit...which was tonight...same guy, wiping his nose with his hands and wiping his hands on his shirt...was cashiering. Not a polite guy...probably in HS doesn't know any better. He isn't very welcoming. Anyway, when I called in my order, he told me 20-25 min...since I waited last time I showed up in 35ish minutes. I still waited for my food and nobody else as around picking up food. So I observed again...the floors are disgusting so I can only image the back is just as gross. And this time the kid was eating his food all around the clean dishes. From my point of view, his plate was on top of all the clean plates! And he was hanging in the kitchen, bagging food up...kinda gross and not sanitary again. So that's my problem with this place...it isn't sanitary...they don't keep the place clean and I can only imagine what gross crap gets into the food. Granted I can't see the kitchen I can only guess if the front of the house isn't kept clean, they are not cleaning the fryers and what not like they probably should be. So check it out if you'd like...the food is decent...but not worth the sanitary risks...that this kid doesn't understand and the owners don't seem to regulate. BTW...Star Wok is right across the street...their website is exactly the same and their menu is too...I can only imagine it is owned by the same people. Unless there is some standard menu all places must use...

Terrible, I ordered today, called them before 9pm. Mind you I live a couple blocks away from them, called them again twice before they closed, someone on the other line said it will come it's just that they are running late. Almost 3 hours later after 12 calls no food, have a headache from hunger. Please consider some place else next time your hungry.

Delivery Chinese food = good! Delivery Chinese food that doesn't break the bank = woohoo! Jasmine Garden is your typical takeout Chinese food place. It's a bit greasy and sometimes could stand to be improved, but overall, it's good and not too expensive. I also love that they deliver, but it can be pretty slow. Order in advance if you want it delivered by a certain time!

When you walk in your body stiffens up, and you think oh sarah jessica parker this place is nasty. Our food order was wrong, it took 45 minutes past expected time. After the host told us about the wait she procceded to sit down at the table next to us with a giant pile of wonton and cheese and roll them, without gloves on. Holy balls. skip this place.

Disgusting. No other word can be used. We ordered delivery and frankly I would have called to complain but whoever put that dog food into a carton and sent it out the door just doesn't care so what's the point. I ordered the lemon chicken. It was cold, and that's the best part of the meal. It looked like someone dumped out the fryer let it sit on the counter for a few hours then scraped it into the container and sent it out. I threw it out. My girlfriend ordered the seafood delight and that actually LOOKED good. It was cold as well but at least they use the processed seafood strips you buy from the gas station instead of fresh seafood. The shrimp still had the tails on them and the scallops were plain mush. Will NEVER eat there again. Just hideous!

Food is cheap, but average. I work late at night in downtown Hopkins and it's great if you're in a pinch. However, the food takes a LONG time. They told me it would be 30-50 minutes for just some fried rice and an egg roll, but it ended up being an hour.

We had beef with pea pods, orange chicken and vegetables with tofu for lunch that was very good.

  • Whitney W.

For what it is, the food is good. The steamed veggies and shrimp = my favorite. Food is always hot and always give plenty of sauce and fortune cookies. Good portions. It's fast food Chinese but it's still good. Be prepared - if you order after 430, it takes a good hour to get it delivered. Actually, we had pick up a few times and it took well over an hour. If you don't mind waiting awhile, then give them a call.

  • Jon G.

Your typical Chinese delivery food, but always arrives hot and plenty of food! One of my favorites for the area.

  • Anna E.

We ordered the hot and spicy chicken, shrimp fried rice, and egg rolls. The hot and spicy chicken was hot in temperature, but it wasn't spicy! The amount of green peppers in the dish greatly outnumbered the amount of chicken; it was still decent. The shrimp fried rice was average. I especially enjoyed the egg rolls. Food arrived 30 minutes late (an hour and 10 for the delivery time total) but was hot and fresh. Will order something different next time, as there will be a next time.

I've been coming to this place since I moved to the cities 4 years ago. While it's definitely not the greatest Chinese food I've ever had, it's still good enough to have again and again. Seating is pretty limited here and it appears most of their business is from take-out and delivery. They have a limited delivery area, but since I live right across the street, that's not an issue. The portions are huge and the prices are friendly to your wallet. The family who runs this restaurant have always been very friendly and are a large part of the reason I've made this my go-to take-out establishment.

  • Chris F.

I love their delivery always bring alot of fortune cookies. The restaurant is a hole in the wall and not the newest or cleanest looking but their great food and staff make up for it!

We have been going to Jasmine Garden for about 6 years. We go there so much, they know us by now. Super friendly, and some of the best Chinese food there is, and I've had Chinese food all over the globe. The veggies are so fresh and flavorful. Portions are generous...we can get 2 meals from a quart. They frequently throw in extras like rice or wonton crisps. The items are packaged to withstand a windstorm, which is appreciated when you have nosy dogs in the car! The inside of the store is very plain; I think we've only eaten inside once...most of the traffic is delivery or carry out. We also love that they're open until 10pm. This is our go-to place!!!

This place is a shade above your average strip-mall Chinese take-out joint. It's a small restaurant with seating for maybe a dozen people at most, and is not particularly well-kept or inviting. But the service is friendly and the place seems to be run by a nice family. While the menu appears to be almost exactly average strip-mall Chinese, I found the food here to be quite good, actually. It's not heavy on oil, corn starch or sugar, and generally feels much lighter and fresher than most Chinese restaurants. They use fresh green onion and zucchini, both of which you don't see often in Chinese strip-mall joints. They even offer brown rice (for no extra charge!). Their "bean curd homestyle" is a solid dish. The woman behind the counter assured me the dish was vegan (after I explained what vegan meant), but I admit harboring some skepticism. On the other hand, the servers were friendly and seem trustworthy. I need to learn how to say "no oyster sauce" in Mandarin. Given the dearth of decent food options in the southwest suburbs, especially Hopkins, Jasmine Garden is about as good as you'll find.

Yuck. Cheap cream cheese in my wontons. Gunky gelatinous sauce congealed on my slimy fake-ish chicken. Never again. At least they were honest about the hour wait. I am throwing this away and ordering star wok.

  • Dan G.

I ordered delivery... Arrive 20 min late, but the food was hot and very good!

  • Megan M.

Good food, nice people. The food here has been consistently good and there is A LOT of it for a low price. As someone else said- if you get a quart, that can last you 2-3 meals. I wouldn't suggest eating there- I've picked up and the interior of the restaurant is kinda dingy. Gonna order from here tonight :)

  • Kate H.

Def. love ordering Jasmine Garden... It's better than your typical chinese fair, and the delivery people are always nice! I've never eaten at the actual restaurant, just gotten take out. Though I've read other reviews that say that their delivery is always late, I swear mine is always earlier than the planned time! :) I never get anything complicated, usually just sweet and sour chicken or something like that, but it's so good! And their cheese wontons are awesome! :) Usually two orders of a quart of some chicken dish (which comes with white or brown rice) and two orders of the cheese wontons comes to around $25, so it's not expensive either!

  • Liz B.

While I'm aware that this isn't quality Chinese food, I must admit that I'm still a huge fan. The portions are large. One pint of vegetable lo mein and a regular sized General Tso's chicken could last me 2 days. It really only deserves 3 stars but extra star for fast service. Never ever order hot&spicy chicken, get the beef. I always order the vegetable lo mein. SO yummy and filling, and is a quick fix to my noodle craving. Be careful ordering deep fried food from chinese take out. You get jipped because they basically over do it with the flour. Don't eat in there too. They deliver but if you live around there, just call and do the take-out. It's awesome.

Good cheap american style chinese food. Quick &easy to call order and pickup. Food is at right temp and good portion sizes.

  • Quynn I.

I am giving this 2 stars because the food better be flippin phenomenal for the wait. I ordered at 5:30... It is now 7:15 and I am still waiting for it to be delivered. No idea how service is at the restaurant but I will NEVER order delivery again.

Just had sweet and sour chicken, tons of breading not much chicken, and extremely greasy, will not be back.

  • David K.

Ok at best. This place has been around forever in Hopkins. Maybe that's the problem they stopped caring or are bored with the business. The food is typical fried and/or warmed up quick in a wok with oil dishes. The inside of the restaurant looks like they stopped caring years ago, with worn furniture, walls and floors from the 1970's era. See pictures

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
