China Gate... One word: Amazing... I was introduced to this place when a friend gave me one of their menus after I mentioned going to China Star to get a carry out on a Sunday night... She said, "Have you ever tried China Gate?" My reply was, "Never heard of the place." Well, since that day, which was in Oct 2013, I've been the 6 times since... Lol. Yes, they are that good - it would even be more if I wasn't on a diet!!! Lol. I've been waiting to write a review as I figured after 1-2 times I'd be going back to China Star or my all time favorite, New Peking for carry out. Well, so far that hasn't happened. China Gate is that damned good... The staff is friendly and helpful when placing an order and is usually followed by a 10-15 minute pick up time. The combination plates offer a lunch and dinner portion which you can order at anytime. Lunch just doesn't run til 3, then the dinner menu kicks in like other places. The prices are cheap for the quality and quantity of food you get... You will be amazed!!! General Tso's Chicken is my all time favorite Chinese dish, and they make it perfect EVERY TIME I've ordered it thus far... Nice kick, great sauce, hot & fresh. They use chicken breasts and the breading is awesome. They are big pieces, and you have to cut each into 3-4 bite size pieces before you can finish one. :) I've only ordered the dinner portion and there is always enough left over for the next days lunch or dinner. Even the fried rice (egg and chicken pieces in it) and egg roll that are included taste great!!! The plum sauce is tasty also!!! My wife has ordered the Szechuan Chicken a few times and has thought is was amazing also. We've yet to have a bad experience and as far as the General Tso's Chicken goes, I believes it the best around!!! Give them a try, you won't be disappointed!!!!!

Big portions ! Bland very dry, soy sauce colored chicken fried rice ! Too bad it has fresh amount of cut up chicken bits. Tried the pineapple chicken medium spice under the Sichuan choices ! Darn it tasted I ordered sweet sesame chicken minus the sesame and was just topped with pineapple tidbits ! Far from being authentic Chinese food and lack of promise to be Americanized Chinese dish. One star for big portions and using real chunky chicken pieces.

This is a faithful lunchtime standby. I love the Szechuan and the egg foo young. The quality is consistent and the price is very fair. Only 2 tables so it's a take-out business but their menu is expansive and the owners are very friendly and want to make sure you have a good meal. Keep up the good work!

I've only been here once so this rating can go either say but its middle of the road. Lunch specials are well priced and I didn't have any problems with my almond chicken. Inside its nice and clean and the staff is friendly. Update to come!

Thank you, fellow Yelpers! I found this place thanks to your recommendations. My Grandmother lives near here, so we're alwyas looking for new places to get carryout. We've had such bad luck trying to find good Chinese that wasn't far away! This place is a hidden gem, and we will definitely be back. We ordered a wide variety of things, and absolutely everything from the soup to the vegetarian stir fry was flavorful, fresh, and NOT greasy. The veggie stir fry was truly unbelievable, as I am often disappointed by carry-out veggie options. I ate the entire pint of this stuff. Both the egg drop and hot and sour soups were deliciously eggy and rich. We also ordered the moo shu pork, chicken chop suey, and veggie stir-fry, all of which were beautifully sauced, perfectly cooked, full of meat and veggies and tasted delicious. I could be addicted to this place.

Their food is great. I live a stones throw away from there and lost count howmany times I've been there, They're located in a small strip mall next to Westland bowl. The other businesses there have come and gone like musical chairs over the years but Chinagate has been there over 20 years. For a small place no bigger than a hole in the wall the food is top notch. I hope it stays there forever.

We were recently introduced to the Crab Rangoon, a while back, sifter seeing them referenced many times on YELP reviews. China Gate is fairly close by and had some good reviews and some Crab Rangoons on the menu. They were quite good. You get eight in a sack for $4.50 and they are hot and crispy. We asked for the sweet sauce as indicated by the reviews and it was a tasty treat. The sauce could have been a little sweeter, but it was adequate. Thai being said, we went ahead and ordered some other items as well. We ordered the General Tso's Chicken Combo (with Fried rice and Egg roll) and it was pretty good. The sauce was a little too thick and sticky for me, but my Grandson loved it. I ordered the Shrimp with Lobster sauce and when it didn't come in a combo. I wondered what kind of dish I ordered. I got a side of fried rice for an extra $1. The Shrimp were pretty good size and floating in a bowl of a version of seafood egg drop soup. It had peas and a couple of other tiny vegetables floating around as well and a hint of seafood (Lobster?). I didn't know what to expect, but it was a pretty good meal with my fried rice side order. We also ordered my Wife's standard Almond Boneless Chicken in a combo and it was definitely not what she expected. She prefers the yellow sauce and this came out with a sort of light brown gravy with a very peculiar taste. The Chicken was deep fried and heavily crusted and a little bit over cooked as it was quite tough and chewy. We couldn't even eat it and that doesn't happen very often. There is a little bit of a communication barrier for phone orders so be prepared to be patient unless you know exactly what you want. Overall, we didn't know what to expect as it has been a few years since we tired China Gate and we did love the Crab Rangoons. I'm going with 3 stars and I'll be back...

Terrible food. Some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I don't understand all the good reviews; maybe we went on a bad day. We ordered crab ragoons, almond chicken, and sesame chicken. All terrible. Food was flavorless or had a chemical/plastic taste. Just awful. We ordered $25 worth of food and threw if all in the garbage.

About 25 of us ordered carryout last Friday. For most of us it was the first time eating there. I never heard one negative comment from anyone! We were all amazed with the quality & quantity of the food! There were quite a few orders for "Crispy Chicken" which came with a sweet plum-like dipping sauce. Normally I don't like sweet on my chicken, but it was awesome! The quality of the chicken was incredible, and each piece was a three-biter! The combo came with an egg roll that was pretty good, and pork fried rice that was good, but could have used some more veggies. Other than that, this place is a "must try". We're actually organizing it for our Tuesday carryout day at work, it was such a hit! Next week, almond chicken, then shrimp with lobster sauce, then.....

Hands down my favorite Chinese carryout restaurant. The curry chicken(xtra hot) is the best curry dish I have ever had from a Chinese restaurant. And the staff is great, super friendly! I can't say enough good things about this place!

Great rice, Okay egg roll! Good hot and sour soup too! Great price, great portions. I've been going here for twenty years now. - I gotta try something else on the menu - NAH! I am already craving their almond chicken as I write! Somebody try something else and write about it!

Take out Chinese food at its best. I usually get the General Toas chicken with the brown rice comes in different heat for the general sauce mild, medium, and Hot. They have lunch and dinner portions. lots of food for the price. Their egg rolls are also fantastic with great real plum sauce. this story tells you how good of food they have. I was in there one day and an old work friend I used to work with many years ago was in there i knew he moved to Whitaker road and well south of 94 and he goes all the way to Wayne and Ford road to get his Chinese food at China Gate now that is a ringing endorsement. Also while you wait they have hot Chinese tea for you to sip on.

This place is really good! The Crab Rangoon is SO good! Their General Tso's is delicious. One recommendation, ask for the chicken extra crispy. Also, their hot mustard is amazing. Seriously, it's the best hot mustard I've ever had. If you like it really hot, you have to specify so. Their "hot" is VERY flavorful, but not enough heat for my taste. It's a carryout joint only. Their portions are really big. So if you order their dinner portion, get some Tupperware ready for some leftovers. The customer service is really friendly as well. It's just a little hole in the wall, but their food is very good. Check `em out!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
