I have tried every single mexican restaurant in westland and carlos is by far the best in the westland area. I used to think New Mexico on ford Rd was good but they definitely turned out to be inconsistent... Carlos has better quality, fresher and definitely more authentic mexican food than the rest! I LOVE the shrimp fajitas (large shrimp as well as the portion is on point) also I LOVEEEEEE the cheese quesadillas ! On Tuesday I like going to with my boyfriend and it's buy 1 get the 2nd fajita 1/2 off ! So awesome and everything is already reasonably priced !! Definitely go check out Carlos' ! A+

This Mexican food is the best you'll find outside of Mexicantown, and gives most of those restaurants a run for their money! We've been here several times; the service is always friendly and fast, the homemade salsa and chips come right to your table, and the food is fresh, flavorful, and made with care. It's just a little unassuming place, but trust me, you'll be happy you chose this family-owned place instead of one of those horrible Tex-Mex chains. Honestly, everything on the menu has been delicious so far, from the salads to the combo plates to the tacos. My tip? ORDER SOMETHING WITH VEGGIES. The veggie fajitas are seriously amazing. Fresh squash, broccoli, onions, peppers, mushrooms...the works. Not your average frozen veggie situation at all. Also, if you order beef, get the steak or the shredded beef - it's seriously good.

still ok, and ordered the same items. truly don't know why i gave them 4 stars last time, they just aren't that good. salsa still good, rice and beans still bland but did pour more salsa on the whole plate of food for some flavor. service slow, and too many people getting up from lunch to serve customers. don't know how hygienic that is, especially the kids serving. prices probably the best in town for mex food. place wasn't as clean as i last remember.

Worst meal I have ever paid for. Me and the girlfriend constantly look for new places to eat and explore. Carlos Mexican Restaurant was chosen one night, its close to my house, why not, this may be a great little neighborhood secret, I thought. I'm sorry, but if anyone gave this place a good review should be never allowed to write a review on Yelp again, it compromises this site. This place is THAT bad. Its the cheapest most generic food you can imagine. All the sides came out of cans. My burrito was obviously made with canned chicken, the fluid the chicken was canned in was leaking onto my plate. This place serves dog food. They don't even try. Just because you paint your restaurant in a Mexican theme does not make you a Mexican restaurant. You want canned, frozen, artificial slop warmed up in a microwave, come here. Awful place.

Good for the money. The good: good food, pleasant staff, large quantities. The bad: stale chips and no hot salsa. so worth it.

I have passed this place many times but the reviews little to draw me in. Today, I decided to go against my better judgement and went for it. This was a mix of BOO and YAY. The surly guy at the register barely looked up when I came in and mumbled a hello and that "she" would be with me. She on the other hand was incredibly friendly and so sweet. I guess she is the ying in the yang and balances things out... They must be in the middle of changing menu items because what was listed on the menu board wasn't actually available. I ordered the carnita tacos, side of beans, tortilla chips and salsa. Lets start with the good- The carnita tacos were PERFECT (except for the occasional fat pieces that should have been removed. No one wants to bite into a chunk of fat). The pieces of pork were tender, moist and flavorful. This was topped iwth pico, onion and cilantro. Squeezed some lime on them and they were DELISH! NICE portion size. $2.50 each. A bit over priced for the area. The beans were creamy and I love the bit of cheese that that add. There was a small amount of bacon/smoked flavor to the beans, but they lacked salt. The BOO- The salsa looked like it was going to be soooo good and then first bite and eeeewww it was sooo bad! The tomato sauce part of the salsa was thick. It was like tomato juice puree. Where is the spice? The salsa is a VERY VERY important part of a mexican meal (for me, as I put it on everything) and if it isn't flavorful... The chips were crunchy and thick but bland. You had to eat 15 before you got one that maybe had a lil salt added. Happy Eating

My wife and I love this place! We've been coming here for years. You can't beat the prices, their Mexican pizza is an awesome deal, and the food tastes great. I'm seeing people say that it's all canned stuff, but to me the quality is better then that.

Good little place. Not a huge menu, but it is good food at a great price. Fast and friendly.

Worst Mexican food I have EVER had! Yes price is reasonable but portions are dinky they were for carry out anyway. Ordered a meal that was supposed to feed four. Four beef tacos, four chicken burritos, four beef enchilada, rice, beans and chips with salsa. Sounds like enough right? Well the sizes were half sizes and beans and rice was enough for two. We ordered a pizza a few hours later! So the beef was crazy greasy and no flavor on the hard tacos the beef was put in the center so when you bite into the sides it's nothing but shell and those were stale! The chicken burritos just tasted funky I'm sitting here praying my family doesn't end up sick! Rice had no flavor, beans were well beans not much of a fan of them. The chips stunk! When I go eat mexican I'm expecting warm fresh chips. Oh and the salsa was the WORST it was like watered down tomato sauce with big chunks of onion and a bit of cilantro it was calling for salt or some kind of spice. The restaurant is out dated in my opinion it could definitely use a modern makeover. The gentleman that was there upon arrival just ignored us and walked by us six times before a female waitress FINALLY acknowledged us. She was however very polite and friendly she was the only good thing about our experience. Someone needs to tell the poor thing that there are better waitress jobs out there. Oh and they charge a gratuity for take out. Needless to say we will not visit Carlos again.

Maybe we caught them on an off night, but the service was almost entirely horrible when we visited. Most of the employees were just hanging around looking surly. The one girl who was trying to help people was completely swamped. There were several other parties of guests there either waiting to be seated or waiting to pick up carry-out orders, but none of the other employees did anything to help. Maybe it wasn't their job, but they could at least have been polite and done something besides give sour looks to the one working employee and all of the waiting guests. The food was acceptable, but unfortunately not good enough to put up with being treated so poorly overall.

Carlos' is my absolute favorite Mexican place EVER!!! We discovered this hole in the wall about three years ago and have been coming back faithfully ever since. The chicken flautas are amazing and I'm also totally hung up on their beef tacos. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxed. The people who work there are just the nicest people you'll ever meet. It's more of a carryout joint, so you'll never have to wait for a table but if you're in the mood for a nice quiet place to have some tasty Mexican then this is the place for you! They usually have the TV on with either Jeopardy or cheezy Mexican soap operas, but heck, I like watching the soap operas and trying to figure out what they're saying. Honestly, I wasn't a big fan of Mexican food and am extremely picky about where I'll eat Mexican. It used to be that if it wasn't Mexican Town then I wasn't having it. But I recently ate at Carlos' and then went to Xochimilco in Mexican Town (arguably the best Mexican food in the Metro Detroit area) and discovered that Carlos' blows Mexican Town restaurants out of the water! They're so much better. And it's easier to get a table!

What bums me out the most about Carlos' Mexican Restaurant is that is has the potential to be so much better. It's a tight little restaurant, sticking out of a strip mall. They have very reasonable prices, especially for carry-out. But, when my wife and I stopped here out of hunger and a craving for Mexican food one night, I knew why the prices were so good. NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING seemed home made to me in this restaurant. You may as well open a can of Old El Paso Enchilada sauce and do nothing to it, and toss it over some off brand tortillas with some Kraft cheese and ground beef and call em enchiladas. I can do that at home and add enough Cayenne Pepper and Jalapeno to at least make them a bit more interesting. Service was ok, but for how late we were there and the fact that the guy who brought us our food was more wrapped up in watching Spanish language soap operas than making sure we were served, I was dissapointed. Chips were underwhelming and over-fried and the salsa was absolutely store bought somewhere. The only reason this gets two stars is because it was a clean restaurant, prices were reasonable considering the food quality and our order wasn't screwed up. The decor is pretty cool and this could be a romantic little spot if they did it right. Service and the bland food = no repeat visit for Dan and Vita.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
