I've ordered my go-to Chinese food dish, Sesame Chicken with fried rice, from here twice. The first time the sauce/glaze was yummy but it seemed like there was significantly more fried batter than chicken. I understand that this happens semi-often with Chinese food, but the ratio was far from normal. I tried to order from here again this week and it was even worse- the tiny pieces of chicken were black and grey, and again (but worse) I felt like most of the dish was just fried batter dumplings soaked in the Sesame sauce. To top it all off, I unfortunately kept finding small pieces of hair in the dish. It looked like someone trimmed their beard in it. I'm sorry Spice and Rice, but I won't be ordering from here again.

Never come here again, and i recommend you to stay away from it. They use old food to cook for you. By the time i receive my roasted duck and orange chicken...the meat in side smell like old oil and it soft like sponge...nasty...after 2 bites, im done. $35 waste...surprising this restaurant still here.

My favorite Chinese food in Kalamazoo. They will cook items just the way you like, if you ask them too. Also love the owner Andrew, he's super nice!

I've had way better. I got the Sweet & Sour Shrimp...with the amount of fried breading surrounding the TINY shrimp you couldn't even taste the shrimp. Gross. Just seriously disgusting. And it was SO over-fried. Almost rock hard. I usually like fried food, but I threw most of this away after tasting the first one. The fried rice was average...not the worst or best I've ever had. The egg roll and hot and sour soup were the highlights...actually the soup was really good, one of the better hot and sour soups I've had...lots of tofu and veggies in relation to broth, and the serving size was very big. Unless I'm desperate, or am really craving hot and sour soup, I won't be back to this place again.

Excellent vegetarian skills! Delicious General Tsaos Tofu! Be aware you have to ask for food without MSG! It's such good food, it's sad I have to ask for no MSG, this is 2013 who uses MSG? Would be more stars but having to ask for MSG free food isn't cool.

This place is so pathetic it's a wonder they're still in business. If you go around campus at Western and ask where to get good Chinese, you'll here "go to the store and buy it frozen" before you hear "order Spice & Rice". This place disrespects its customers and can get REALLY impatient if you're not right down to get your food lickety split. The food is in small portions that are dwarfed by other Chinese restaurants, they love to "forget" the rice, forcing you to order more or go without, and the food is so expensive you'll assume you're eating the goose that laid the golden eggs with your sweet and sour chicken. (By the way, the veggies that come with a dinner? Usually some decorative broccoli florets.) Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY from this place. Your mind and wallet will love you for it.

One of the best chinese food in town. Their best part is that they are open till very late in night so you can plan a late dinner too. Not too costly and good on portions. I liked their Schezuan Vegetable and Fried Rice a lot. All in all a good value for money.

I used to love this restaurant until we stopped in for pick up when I was 7 months pregnant and saw one of the chefs smoking a cigarette while cooking. And this was well after the new smoking laws in Michigan was placed. He even looked out and saw us see him... And continued. Yuck!

Kalamazoo is a small town with very few restaurant choices, and even fewer restaurants with delivery options. Eventually, I ran out of places to go and grew bored of the same old restaurants in the area. I was desperate to order food from somewhere different and even after hearing numerous complaints about Spice and Rice, I still decided to just order because of their cheap delivery charge and bought the Thai Fried Rice for $9.75. Sigh, I was not surprised to find my food tasting somewhat nasty. The rice was soggy and even the chicken was cold and undercooked. It was a bad experience and I could barely finish my food. I have to admit that most of the given reviews for this restaurant have been proven accurate. My alternative would be the Hunan Garden restaurant, located on West Main.

I ordered takeout from here the other day, szechuan chicken with steamed rice and an egg roll. I was surprised how quickly they told me my food would be ready "10 minutes" they said over the phone. For the price, you get a ton of food. I had 3 meals from one dinner platter. The chicken wasn't as spicy as I hoped, and the egg roll tasted like it had some sort of spiced pork with cracked black pepper. But what do you expect out of a 6 dollar dinner? All in all, the food was decent, piping hot and service was friendly.

Entrees are okay, if a little bland, but with decent ingredients. Online ordering is a convenience, especially as communication with the staff can be a little difficult. Orders sometimes arrive w/o rice, and fried appetizers taste as if they were cooked in motor oil.

Stumbled upon this joint as I searched for the wmu basketball arena, eager for some Mac basketball action. Can see what the others say about a bad vibe as I was promptly ignored when I walked in the door. Some dude watching tv eventually told me to sit down and brought a menu. The sesame chicken was good, as was the egg roll. Ended up walking to the arena eating the sticky chicken by hand. Sadly, had to leave fried rice on a bench outside it remains to be seen if it will await my return

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
