Location from our house: Awesome Able to accomodate gluten free hubby: Good Good for kids: Nope Food: OK, but overpriced for what you get (although I was not a fan of the risotto fritters) Service: Not good. Took forever to get our food and even longer to get our check. And when we first sat down, the place was pretty empty, so really no excuse. (The real reason for the two star) Won't be going back which is unfortunate, since it is close to our house.

Whenever I have some extra cash I like going to Bold for dinner -always. The staff are so friendly and really touch hard on great customer service. The food is always great and there are always extra employees around to grab your plate right when you are finished so it's not just sitting in front of you. Great location and pretty views, this restaurant is one of the best in Kzoo!

One of my favorite restaurants in Kalamazoo. Fantastic menu and service. Love, love their scallops; they are always cooked perfectly!

A little pricey but great steaks. They have very inventive selections. The corn chowder is so good you would fight your best friend if there was only one bowl left. Friendly staff, one of the best bartenders ever, Mike is friendly and will help you pick something off the menu that will melt in your mouth. I don't even like fish but sometimes their description is so good I have to remind myself I don't like it because it sounds so good. Worth your time and money!!

What a great place! I have relatives that go here every Monday night. It's half off of small plates. This is a place not to be missed and if you live anywhere near here you should be going there on a regular basis! This is not the best place for kids, but PERFECT for a nice intimate dinner.

Another restaurant with atmosphere problems. I loved the brown paper on the tables, the lighting was nice and the view of the corn field was amazing... Eerie, but beautiful. What I didn't enjoy was what looked like fast food restaurant booths and chairs and elementary school carpeting. It's a shame, because the rest of the restaurant is beautiful, but those poor decisions completely ruin what could be an elegant ambiance. I couldn't write this review without explaining how weird it was to sit without a menu for about 20 minutes. I initially thought it was unintentional and they just forgot, but after a while I was just about to mention it and the server actually stopped by specifically to mention they knew it WASN'T time for the menus yet, but they wanted to let me know what the specials were... I sat there thinking to myself, yes, yes it is time for the menus! It was time for the menus 20 minutes ago! Who does this?!? Is this a new thing?!? I'm confused. To give them credit, the food was presented and prepared beautifully. Spectacular flavor! One of the best fillets around. This place is pricey - I'd go back for the food, but if they want to win over customers, they need to get rid of those god-awful booths and chairs - otherwise people are going to want to spend their money in a better looking restaurant with food of equal or lesser quality.

After a year of refusing to go as the owner was rude, I stepped into the restaurant again. The food was very tasty and somewhat imaginative. OK wine selection that matches the KZoo locale. Has a solid local following as everyone seems to know one another. Would like the bar staff to be more attentive and personable. Ihave trained people on customer service in order to make more money and they could use some help. Had the beef wellington special. Expensive at $18 fro a 3-4 oz portion butthe meat was cooked perfectly. Thought it looked more like a roll than a puff pastry though. Also had flatbread with an egg on top-that was good.

I love Bold. Great food! You can choose between small plates (tapas) and regular servings. I enjoy their beef tenderloin. Yes it is a little out of the way and you should call ahead for a reservation but it is so worth it. They do have a small bar area that is first come first serve.

I live down the street from Bold. It is one of my favorite places. Outstanding food, good variety of drinks, and friendly staff. The owner is there most nights and makes a point to stop at each table to make sure the service and the food is to your expectation. It is VERY rare to see that at most of restaurants in our area. My staple dish is the risotto fritters. Try the wedge salad with the BOLD dressing, it's spicy but good!

This place is cool and current. The food is absolutely incredible. The leadership and service is second to none. You can feel the passion of success during your visits.

Great place. Cozy atmosphere, friendly staff and great menu. My wife and I went there for our first time last night for our anniversary and will return every year. Waitress was very knowledgeable of menu and helped us order just what would make our evening special (they even picked up dessert once they heard us talking about our anniversary, but don't tell them I told ya). Even though they were busy, our reserved table was waiting for us and we were not hurried at all. The place ain't cheap, but its worth it. I'm glad they don't advertise cuz I don't want the whole world knowing about our new favorite spot.

great place, go on monday nights for half price small plates. Our favorite sausage and potato flat bread. So good!

Bold has an excellent dinner selection and friendly service. The restaurant was busy the night we visited, but we were able to sit at the bar. The dining experience did not feel compromised, although a table certainly would have been cozier. 4/5 because the price doesn't match the locale.

Hands down the best fine dining restaurant in Kalamazoo! In fact, my last meal there last week may have been my best ever. Started with the Wedge salad - spicy but real good, moved on to the Bold Shrimp & Scallops - the Bold sauce is to die for and the scallops are so big, and ended with the Bold Bananas - this is the best dessert I have ever had. Throw in some great customer service and a 1/2 off bottle of wine, and you have one of the best meals ever. I HIGHLY recommend giving this place a try. You won't be disappointed.

This is one of my favorite spots in Kalamazoo but it is definitely off the beaten path. The place is a little small and I would recommend sitting in the bar instead of the dining room because it is so loud in the completely open dining room. The bar has couches and a couple high top tables that they don't reserve so try to get one of those tables as it is much more enjoyable than sitting in your neighbor's lap and participating in their conversation in the dining room. Now to the food. They have a good selection of small plates and a few big plates on their menu. We like the crab dip the best off the small plates. I can't remember the others we ordered since it's been awhile since we have gone there but I do remember that one. We ordered the scallops and shrimp big plate and they were cooked to perfection and spiced very nicely as they had some heat to them. However, the risotto cake that they used to fill the shallow bowl they put the scallops and shrimp in left something to be desired for me. I would have elected to have done without that and left it untouched in the bowl. We also ordered the duck and it was only average. We have definitely had better. The desserts here are also changing and I've had the bread pudding which was good and would recommend. It was nice to see the owner, Shane, circulating every time we have gone here. He is very involved and appears to run a tight ship. Service has been pretty great here.

Absolutely wonderful. The small plates were great fun. We had a large sampling: the scallops (perfectly cooked), prawns (amazing sauce, could eat it on anything), two different flat breads, the sirloin (cooked perfectly as ordered), crab cakes (can I get some more of those to go, no skimping on lump crab here!) and the chicken flautas! I would recommend any of these based on your taste preferences. Everything was cooked just right and had a wonderful combination of spices. The cocktails were also tasty, I had the pomegranate which was wonderful. I would say that the only room for improvement here would be to expand the selection of local MI beers. We did also get dessert. The crème brûlée was very good with just a little too thick of a crust on it. But the peanut butter cups were awesome!! LIttle rolls of chocolate with peanut butter mousse in them and drizzled with dark chocolate. Overall, a wonderful bang for the buck in a small town in MI!!

Great restaurant and great service. Went on valentines day and it was still a great atmosphere. Recommendations were spot on from the server.

I had the best meat I've ever eaten here: locally-raised bison. Wish they had it more often! Generally a very fine place with inventive dishes and good service. Good drinks and wine selections, too.

You might not even know it's there unless you knew what you were looking for, but oh what a find. The staff and management are friendly and welcoming, even when I came in late. The small plates were good and the atmosphere was nice, but neither compared to the dessert which was fantastic.

Took clients for dinner. We all had a great meal. The crab dip was outstanding, the Cowboy Steak tender and delicious. But dessert stole the show. The BOLD Bananas were delicious and the Creme Brûlée amazing.

Always a great experience. Wish they had less Arcadia beers and more variety on tap but otherwise can't complain. The food is always fantastic and the service is top notch.

Ok. So it is a little on the expensive side for the greater kalamazoo area but it is worth every penny. When they say small plates it is not Tapas sized plated, one serving larger. We had four small plates; Stuffed shrimp with andouille Pork tacos Beef tenderloin hash Goat cheese bake Chef Havey is a true chef. The food was great, eclectic and fun. The service was better than most restaurants in Kalamazoo. Highly recommend. Great date night spot.

There were four of us and when our food came we could only say mmmmm! No more talking. Just eating. The food was wonderful. The service was great. The owner even paid for our drinks! Can't wait to go back!

I was in the area on business and first limited my Yelp search to restaurants that were near where I was staying -- Bold looked promising enough that I didn't bother to search for spots around downtown Kalamazoo. It happened to be a Monday night, which meant half-price small plates and apparently a pretty brisk business ... I came by late in their dinner service, though, so was able to get a table fairly easily. I decided to have a salad and a couple of small plates for dinner -- I chose the chopped salad, their special tenderloin brochette small plate, and the stuffed portabella on the recommendation of my waitress. The chopped salad was just ordinary. I struggle to say what was in it -- iceberg lettuce, cheese, bacon? It really could have used more textural contrast and flavor. Meh. As for the small plates, the special consisted of a skewer of beef tenderloin cooked medium rare served with some sort of white sauce & garnish over a polenta cake. The meat was perfectly cooked and tender, and the polenta cake was perfectly crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. The sauce and garnish were less successful, primarily due to temperature. The sauce was room temperature and the garnish cold, as if it had just come out of the refrigerator. I found that to be so off-putting that I scraped everything off and just ate the steak alone. Similarly, there were cold grape tomatoes garnishing the stuffed portabella. I ended up eating those tomatoes separately from the portabella, as they were relatively nice and flavorful. The stuffing for the portabella was a mish-mash of too many assertively flavored items that didn't meld at all, and didn't complement the meatiness of the mushroom itself. So, all in all, I found the dishes I tried to be rather disappointing. I'd like to think that it was poor selection on my part, as it did seem to be a nice enough place, with a pleasant atmosphere, competent service, and an almost full dining room with numerous groups of people seemingly enjoying their meals. For me, though, I'm sure I would have been much more disappointed if it hadn't been half-price night.

Bold's food is unique and wonderfully appealing. I have never had a dish I didn't love and have visited many times.

I was here for dinner a week ago the service was mediocre and the food was bland. The menu was not thought out from a chefs point of view..

Not sure how this place got 4stars. After I went I spoke to others that felt the same. Not bad food but edible at best. Less impressive when you get the bill. I travel and eat all over the world. A14 dollar Manhattan! Save your money and go to red lobster, you'll get a better meal for much much less. The dinning room is not impressive with the brown paper protection of cheap table cloths.

My mother and I were looking for a nice place while we were in Kalamazoo for the weekend. Let me just say that this place is AMAZING! The food is outstanding, the restaurant has a nice ambience, and the service was incredible. Our waitress Kerry was simply the best. She was incredibly personable, friendly, and helpful! Also, the prices are really reasonable for this type of restaurant. 2 people, 2 dinners, 4 drinks, 2 desserts= $87 before tip?! Sounds great to me. I only wish that I lived closer so that I could come back more often. But no doubt, it will be my go to place when in the area. Can't wait to take my husband!

Monday night is half off small plates, and it's AMAZING. This is definitely one of the best places to go in Kalamazoo. The service is always great, the restaurant itself is tastefully decorated, and the food is killer. We've gone for some of their buffets (they do Mother's day and Thanksgiving and probably others), and they're great! The assortment of food is wonderful, and they're always accommodating to vegetarians. The prices are high but not for what you get. I haven't had a bad meal here. Great place for happy hour, for business meetings (this is one of the default places we go when my boss is in town), and for dates. Don't forget to get dessert. Definitely make reservations unless you're going early on an off night. (Monday is not an off night.)

This place is amazing! We visited on a Saturday night for our anniversary and a 'mmmm' or 'oh my gosh' followed every other bite! We started with the Mojito and a Strawberry Fusion Martini (awesome) and tried a couple small plates-the Risotto Fritters and Roasted Corn & Crab Dip (double awesome, and we don't typically like seafood/fishy dishes). For our entrees we had the New York Strip & BOLD Tenderloin. Delicious, cooked perfectly and just melted in your mouth! Mmmmmm it was good! We took dessert home and it was on the house when they heard it was our anniversary. (the Peanut Butter Cups) Service was professional, attentive and prompt. The manager came by a couple times to check in on us, which was appreciated. Five stars all day! My only "complaint" is that when sitting in the bar area, there is too much visibility into the kitchen. It's a high end place, they should put up a half wall or something, so their guests don't see that. But regardless, I'll be back and will happily pay every penny. Delicious!!!

Great modern restaurant at Texas Corners. Menu is split between small and large plates. Many of the items in the large plates are available as small plates. Food is always excellent. Great wine list. Best steak in Kalamazoo (Cowboy Steak)! Restaurant is busy. You will need reservations.

Great small plates and an amazing cucumber martini. Go on Monday and bring a friend, they have 1/2 off small plates and you can share them like tapas!
