Love this place. It's a place where seniors frequent and everyone seems to know everyone and says their hellos as they come in. You would think my friend and I (early 30's but don't look as mature) would stick out like sore thumbs and feel out of place, but quite the contrary. We really enjoyed ourselves here and were able just to relax and enjoy a down home meal. We came a little too early for lunch, but they kindly offered to make it for us anyways; they just wouldn't be able to make anything deep fried yet as the fryers weren't ready. Happily we ordered a grilled ham & cheese and a grilled tuna salad & cheese, both with grilled American fries which were so good & buttery...mmm... We also ordered a blueberry pancake to try, which was good. But let me tell you, those grilled sandwiches were so delicious! Just the perfect amount of buttery crispness to the bread, that melty cheese and salty ham (on mine) - perfect comfort food! So good in fact, as we were finishing off our meal...I am embarrassed to say....we both ordered another round of sandwiches and shared an order of french fries! A horrendous amount of calories I'm sure, but it was so worth it! (But in our defense, the sandwiches were on the smaller side ;) Service was also friendly and prompt. If you haven't tried this place, you really should! I am looking forward to going back and trying some of their other items.

I almost didn't post this review because I don't want too many people findng out about this gem in KZoo! KK is a unique lodging experience in a great location. It's superior to a hotel and better than a B&B. It really is like a home away from home, from the well stocked fridge (fresh eggs, waffles, etc) to the beautifully appointed rooms. We stayed in the spacious, two bedroom, Birch Bark suite that really felt more like an apartment. We used the large private patio and fire pit. We already have reservations made to return. Thank you, Kara!
Kara's Kottages is my first choice when traveling to Kalamazoo. I've stayed in the Pine Cone Kottage a couple of times and was perfectly comfortable. I've also stayed in the Birch Bark Kottage twice with friends and loved that as well. The kitchens are wonderful and are well stocked. Also, the bathrooms are beautiful and Kara provides so many lovely little touches to create a high level of comfort there as well. It's clear that Kara has spent a lot of time considering the kinds of things that might make someone feel more at home. And even if I haven't used her extra touches, their presence has been appreciated by me. Kara has such wonderful taste and the result of her efforts is simple elegance throughout. I would say that if you're super sound sensitive, it could be helpful to know Kara's is near a train. It's NEVER been an issue for me, but consider ear plugs if a little noise will disrupt your sleep. Also, Kara leaves food in the fridge for you to make your own breakfast and there are extras you can purchase. Love, love, love this place! I HIGHLY recommend Kara's, even if you're sound sensitive!
Lets keep the 5 star string going. My daughter graduated from Kalamazoo College this spring and I needed a place near campus to stay. I rented the first floor unit, which rocked. The concept is simple: B and B without the awkward group breakfast. Instead, the kitchen is stocked for people who can cook. The unit was clean, luxurious, and within walking distance of the College and all downtown hotspots. If I was on a consulting/teaching gig in Kalamazoo, this is where I would stay. Hell, I might move in :)

Went there with my wife for the first time yesterday. Excellent food, and friendly service. A great hometown breakfast joint... just had the eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, and coffee, but everything was perfect. A great place to go if you're into small, authentic, down-to-earth establishments. If you're looking for some kind of hoity-toity yuppie joint, you'll hate it. But if you're looking for a relaxed atmosphere, good food, and a cup of coffee that is not allowed to get empty, this is your place. We will be back.

‘Q It Up Catering

Kalamazoo, 49009
Reviews:
Q It Up catered our wedding back in August at Rose's Retreat in Grand Junction, MI. They were perfect for our outdoor, campground wedding. Brian was super easy going and flexible to work with leading up to the event. We were able to taste a few items while at another event they were catering in Kalamazoo. We settled on a menu of Tri Tip, Spicy Chicken Thighs, corn, green beens, coleslaw and rolls. The tri tip and especially the chicken got rave reviews from guests, and the having the wood fired grill out in the woods during the reception really added to the casual, rustic feel we were looking for. Everything looked great, tasted great, and was very affordable! We would definitely recommend Q it Up for any event.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels

Reviews:
So we visited this place in a Meijer grocery store - not exactly where I'd peg the most tasty soft pretzel I've ever had, but it's true. We had a coupon for 3 pretzels for $6 - not too shabby. The dips are $0.60 a piece but range from cream cheese to nacho cheese and everything in between. They also have a variety of toppings like Parmesan garlic and cinnamon sugar. Basically if you're feeling salty or sweet, this is a great place. The pretzels are nice and thick - soft but not gooey - just the right amount of salt without that gross wetness factor. The sticks and pretzel bites looked pretty darn tasty as well. Turns out there are only locations in FL, IN, MI, and WI. I'm not sure if they're new or just not quite ready for the Triangle but I'd love to see one of these pop up in the Raleigh-Durham area. Big fan!

Great food and Great prices! Huge, fantastic pancakes bigger than the plate! Don't pass this one by! Tom P.
The food has always been fantastic. Always. The service is wonderful, the staff make you feel so welcome. They are great with kids, and my daughter loves it when they let her pull the chord for the train whistle. They have an electric train that has tracks mounted on the walls near the ceiling that runs around. Wednesday and Saturday mornings they have live folk and bluegrass music. How much better can it get!?
Great service. Fast and very friendly. Plate size pancakes and big portions of food for cheap. Live blue grass type music on Wednesday and Saturday from 9am-12pm. Super friendly atmosphere.

Kalamazoo House Bed & Breakfast

One of best B&B's I've ever stayed in! Fabulous Hosts, beautiful house, great location, very quiet and the best chocolate chip cookies in the world! Highly recommend!
We had such a lovely weekend here. I surprised my hubby with the Warm Hearts, Hot Glass package. The glass blowing workshop was a blast and we spent the rest of the weekend crawling brewpubs and seeing a show at the State. The room was beautiful and really comfortable. The location is perfect.
We recently stayed at The Kalamazoo House for the sixth time this past weekend, and as always, we were extremely satisfied with our stay. Every time we visit Kalamazoo, we like to stay at our favorite B & B because we know we're going to have a great room, terrific experience and enjoy all the amenities the Kalamazoo House has to offer from their comfortable (to die for) soft sheets to the sumptuous breakfasts. This time we had a a fireplace in our room which, given the cold weather, we kept on all night. Nothing is cozier than having a fireplace on while you sleep. It's quiet, yet warm enough to keep you snug and comfy while you enjoy the luxury of a wickedly comfortable bed. We enjoyed the parlor where we played games on our first night, then went upstairs to enjoy a movie (they have free movies to choose from) and of course, the famous chocolate chip cookies and a glass of ice cold milk made the movie watching much more enjoyable! I highly recommend anyone who wants a nice weekend to get away, enjoy the sites and many restaurants (within walking distance) to go to Kalamazoo and stay at this marvelous bed and breakfast, The Kalamazoo House. Trust me when I tell you it's the most enjoyable pampering you can get for yourself and your significant other! They now offer a package that includes a couples' massage. We indulged in that too, and it was like heaven on earth! We plan on going back to the Kalamazoo House in June for the Bronson Art Fair, which is literally a half block away from the B & B. Just park your car once, and walk all over! Also, if you're an art buff, the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts is right next door! What a great place to fill up your "culture" slate while enjoying a great urban experience. Thanks Stephanie and Steve for taking the reigns from Laurel and Terry and keeping our favorite B & B at the top of our "to do" list! We'll be back! (Keep that fresh fruit French toast in mind for future breakfast offerings!) Rene Bellis
