I blindly moved to a random apartment in Kalamazoo, and it first I was thrilled to find that Rice Kitchen was located (literally) right next door. Now, I am not so happy about living so close. They have great food, especially for the price. Everyday I'm standing in my kitchen, and what do I see out the window? Rice Kitchen. How am I supposed to force myself to cook dinner when I know that I can wait 10 minutes and feast on some delish Rice Kitchen for next to nothing? Even with their extremely reasonable prices, I'm going to go broke living so close. I hate you, Rice Kitchen. I love you, Rice Kitchen.

I don't understand the high ratings. I typically eat Chinese food whenever I travel on business and this really was sub par. The egg roll was basically cabbage in an egg roll wrapper that was obviously cooked in oil that wasn't hot enough as it was dripping oil as I took my one and only bite. The beef fried rice barely contained any beef and hardly any vegetables (see pictures). The beef w/ mixed vegetables was good but the sauce was REALLY watery. Vegetables were very fresh.

First visit was disappointing. I love to support the underdog, and this hard to reach, two table restaurant is just that. I saw the food pics and decided that's what I needed today. But what I bought had been fried at least an hour or two ago. I was not even looking for fried food, but it was hard to communicate my order to the very sweet and friendly lady on the other end of the phone. First visit mostly likely the only visit for me unfortunately.

Me and my boyfriend just ordered pepper beef and onion, spicy chicken wings, egg drop soup and noodles at rice kitchen tonight after movie. Being a Chinese I'm very critical to Chinese foods/restaurants. So far, I can say they serve authentic Chinese food and the quality is very good. Rice kitchen definitely on my to go list for Chinese foods.

I've had to switch Chinese restaurants too many times. First, Shanghai Imperial closed (we had our wedding dinner there), then Panda Forest closed. What is a sodium addict to do? Go to Rice Kitchen, I suppose. I first tried it at work because they are close and they deliver. I love the Grub Hub app, and regular order from here for pick up and delivery. I love the concept of ordering and paying from my phone. Who wants to talk to anybody anyway? The food is very good and has softened the blow of my past heartbreaks. My one complaint is it a bit too salty at times, but I still love fried rice.

My boyfriend and I had takeout from Rice Kitchen last night. It was some of the best Chinese food I've had! It was very fresh. The veggies were crunchy not soggy like most Chinese takeout. The portions are gracious especially for the price! And they deliver! A lot of places who deliver in Kalamazoo won't bring it to us because we live right at the line of the city and township. We will definitely order from here again!

The crab Rangoon's are the best around!!! The food isn't greasy tasting and has the right amount of spices! One the plus side, they deliver!!

I am loyal to Chinese restaurants...so when they close down, as did Shanghai Imperial and then Panda Forest, I am grumpy about finding a new one to love. Rice Kitchen, though, had me at my first bite of egg roll. The food is tasty and fresh, and it is delivered quickly. My husband loves their hot and sour soup, and we both like everything we've tried on the menu.

Horrible customer service and food Used to live on campus and this place was my go to. Never more Ordered tonight and receiver very dry bland food. Called to ask if we could drive our delivery order back after taking one bite of each and was refused and told, "if you don't like it don't order here" C'mon. Really.

The prices here are fine for what they deliver. Unfortunately, there really aren't many good options for a serious Asian food of any cuisine. While I'd still consider this place definitely a sort of fast food Chinese, it beats the competition, such as Campus Wok or Spice n Rice. Its within easy walking distance of Kalamazoo College - just one street away. I find the prices to be just slightly under the competition, and the food to be quite a bit better. Again, not a fancy place, but for some Chinese take out, this place hits the spot.

Just ok. Kung Pao was pretty good, as were the crab rangoons. The soup was the downfall. Not a fan of the hot and sour, which I typically enjoy. May be personal preference, but no soup for me.

I am eating Rice Kitchen take out as I type this (is that sad?). And it is actually pretty ok! Delivery came within 30 minutes, and the chicken and broccoli entree is yummy and healthy with big broccoli florets and plenty of chicken. The szechuan chicken is also tasty and the portions are large. My mom got the singapore mai fun - at least one person in my family always orders this when we all order takeout. It's a ton of food and it's really good. The noodles are tasty and there is just enough curry taste without it being drippy or overpowering. Only complaint is the singapore is a little salty... I guess some people could confuse this for "spice", but it's salt. But it's chinese take out, I guess it is to be expected.

Love the sesame chicken! The quality of food is excellent and the staff is fast and friendly. Not much room to eat in the restaurant (4 tables), but a great restaurant for takeout or delivery.

Very solid cheap/fast chinese food. Szechuan broccoli is my personal favorite. Pretty much carry-out and delivery only. There is only one or two tables in there and they are usually occupied by members of the family that runs it.

This is fast, cheap, open late chinese food. It's pretty much the most awful chinese food I've ever had, but you get what you paid for. If you're looking for chinese late at night this is one of your only options, but at any other time of day you're much better off going to another establishment.

Family owned and run, they are always polite. Only seating for 10, so this is mostly a takeout / delivery establishment. Popular with the university crowd and those who work in downtown Kalamazoo. Food is fresh, tasty and ample. A section of the menu features dishes for those with special dietary needs. Prices are on par with other Asian takeout restaurants.

My new favorite Chinese restaurant in Kalamazoo :) (as well as a colleague's, that I just introduced this place to) I had been meaning to try this place but had forgotten about it. My friend and I were in the area last week and looking for a place for a quick lunch and he remembered this place. I wasn't really expecting much, since I am usually let down with Chinese restaurants after getting my hopes up. Well, both of us were very pleasantly surprised. I ordered the pan fried noodles with beef and he ordered the General Tso's chicken. Both were delicious. (I especially liked his, and he especially liked mine, go figure. That General's sauce is so good and the battered chicken stays crispy :d ) I would highly recommend either. I've also already returned yesterday with my significant other and tried the shrimp lo mein - quite good as well. Lunch specials are a great deal - ~$5.50 I think - it comes with either 2 crab rangoons (very good) or an egg roll and white or fried rice, and are of generous portions. Staff is nice. They also deliver in a 3 mile radius for $1 delivery fee (says so on their take out menu). They are more so geared towards take out than dine in, so seating is limited (3 tables) but I haven't had a problem getting a table so far.

Nothing is as good as the Chinese food I have had in Chicago. We have ordered here several times since moving here. They are friendly fast and fairly priced. I am addicted to the shrimp with broccoli. Perfect amount of garlic flavor. If you get the combination dinner you get rice (fried or steamed) entree and choice of egg roll or rangoons = a very good deal. Teriyaki beef sticks are also very good. Not a fan of their sweet and sour chicken however.

I used to order from Rice Kitchen all the time when I lived nearby. The food was always good and arrived on time. Easily, my favorite was the general tso's chicken, which I still think is the best version of that dish I've had from any Chinese restaurant. It's not really a sit down sort of restaurant, however, so delivery and take-out are probably the best options.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
