This place is by far the only authentic Mexican food I have found in Kalamazoo. I spent 19 years in Southern California where there is great Mexican food on every corner. This place has Al Pastor and the food and service are both incredible. I highly recommend this place. The food is served hot, they have authentic drinks, and the service is great. This is by FAR the best Mexican food in Kalamazoo and likely all of Western Michigan.

Delicious enchiladas! I almost ate the whole huge plate. I had to put a mint in my mouth to stop from eating the rest. Will definitely be back.

Super friendly staff, economical prices, and the food is really good. The salsa on the table has a nice bit of habanero in it, nice to see they aren't afraid of a little heat. PRO TIP: Monday's you can get suadero or cochinita tacos for a DOLLAR EACH. 4 tacos = great sub-Lincoln meal.

Found this great spot for authentic Mexican food and generous serving. Best of all the warm and friendly people. Give it a try.

Finally got into Quekas and was not disappointed. The service was fast and friendly. The prices are great -especially the Monday $1 taco special. The salsa is a little on the hot side -I'm guessing some habanero- but very good. I tried the chorizo, saudero, and pastor tacos and all were good. One of my friends had the flautas and I amazed by the portion to price ratio. Will definitely come back for good, cheap food!

This food is absolutely delicious and for a very good price. Two people we got out of there for 14$ and both had left overs. Had tacos from Taste of Kalamazoo and just had to go to the restaurant the following week, absolutely did not disappoint.

Best Mexican food in Kalamazoo. This coming from a family from Texas that just moved here.

This has to be the best Mexican food in Kalamazoo. It's on par with El Gallo Blanco which is saying a lot. The food is pretty close to authentic and is not the run of the mill tex-mex stuff all over the place. The salsas are spicy so just a heads up on that. They have six types of tacos on the menu. I had 5 tacos and chips and spent $8. I bring business guests from out of ton there now when I can!

I'm in heaven at Quekas! I owned Mi Ranchito Restaurant on Westenedge Ave for over 30 years! And everyone in my family loves this place too. Being from Guadalajara, I was not familiar with many of their signature dishes like, Huarachas and Sopa Azteca and I had no idea what a Quekas was! LOL Boy, I have been missing out on this delicious regional cuisine! We've been dining there once a week and always look forward to trying something new. The family reminds me so much of hours! I love it!! 100% authentic!

First time here and immediately became my favorite Mexican restaurant in Kalamazoo, and I've been to most of them over the amost 30 years we've lived here. A lot have come and gone but I hope this one stays. I was there with my wife, son and granddaughter. The quekas were delicious, salsa hot and flavorful, burritos very tasty. Portions were large. My granddaughter (2 years old) enjoyed her flautas. We will be coming back often.

I know this restaurant is new... But this was worse than Taco Bell. I got a basic chicken burrito and the cheese wasn't melted, nothing was warm, and it fell apart immediately. The salsa tasted good but was way too hot for the average person. They said they opened this store because none of the other Mexican restaurants in the area are good... Well this made me sick.

The menu is a joke. Its confusing and like trying to read in a language that's neither English or Spanish. Both of which I can read decently. The service wasnt very good. Taco meat was very bland and I didn't care for the tortillas. The chicken queka was decent which is what saved this review from being 1 star. Salsa was pretty decent too, pretty hot though so indulge with caution.

Had a craving for nachos and love the other authentic Mexican nearby, however thought I'd try this. Pretty good food, fixed my craving and huge portions. I will definitely come back and try something more authentic, the pictures look good.

Lets start with the menu. Very hard to read, fonts and layout. This does not even include the spelling and grammatical errors. I ordered a wet burrito and it had large pieces of pepper in it. (1 1/12 inch wide by 3 inch long) They did not chop them up. There was also peas in the burrito. No flavor to their chicken. (wierd) As for their signature dish, do not order this. It is a 17 inch dried out fried taco. The only reason I gave this place one star was the waitress was very nice. I hope she can find other employment!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
