5 stars for great service. They brought refill after refill while it was pretty empty inside during the middle of the day, and my friend and I were embroiled in a wicked game of chess and eating cupcakes. I'm sure we'll be back for a rematch one of these days.

This shop was so stinkin cute! The staff was extremely efficient & friendly. The food was prompt, clearly home-made, and satisfied my taste buds. My $9 meal included a cupcake. I chose pink almond. My reaction quite literally was "wow". I enjoyed it so much I ordered another to go & devoured it in the car. Moist & flavorful. Absolutely positive experience.

Garden Gate Café is basically every six year old girl's dream. It's very pink and partially princess-y (minus the glitter). Much to the chagrin of the six year old Barbie-obsessed princess inside me, I've never actually had a sit down meal here, I've always picked up my lunch and taken it with me to work. That said, here's what I can tell you about Garden Gate - Pros: + The staff is always super friendly + Their chicken salad is ON POINT. + Their jerk chicken sandwich with mango and onions is absolutely amazing. + The quality of their food is consistently amazing. Cons: - I'm NOT a fan of the cupcakes. They've got too much frosting, but not in a good way. Their frosting just isn't tasty - it's not creamy, it's stiff-ish and tastes like granules of sugar. - At peak lunch hour, picking up food from Garden Gate is less than ideal because you can be waiting for 15+ minutes for a chicken salad sandwich on a pretzel roll. - The staff, despite being super polite and friendly, isn't the most the most efficient. Everything is super laid back and people are more than happy to take their time bringing your order out to you. Bottom line: if you've got a little time to kill and you're looking for good food on the Kalamazoo Mall, I'd give Garden Gate a try, but I'd definitely give the cupcakes a pass and maybe just visit Cupcake Zoo, instead!

Adorable!! The service was so good. Friendly, attentive, helpful. The food was really good. My daughter had a wrap and I had the Grilled Vegetable "Panini". It was on a pretzel bun which gave it bonus points in my mind. The atmosphere is whimsical and fun. I love it!

We were welcomed by the sweetest young girl and a bakery case full of sweets! After a review of what was inside, MVP's comment was "can I pull a chair up to the case?" My thought was, "when can I move in?" We both had the chicken salad on pretzel bread and I had a strawberry Italian soda. I'm a home baker and cook and an admitted food snob, but this was one tasty lunch. The chicken was amazing- fresh and light. The bread was just as good as mine :) We ordered cupcakes to go, strawberry and lemon and muffins, blueberry and pumpkin. We enjoyed trying everything with our family and the final decision was that the pumpkin muffin was the winner.

Ummm how cute is this place? The hubs and I were walking down the street with our luggage from the amtrak to my sister's work when we decided to grab lunch. My hubs looked in the window and saw all the girly-ness, looked at me and said, "this place is screaming your name". haha So of course we went in. We were greeted and seated right away. Hubs enjoyed the soup of the day and half a turkey sandwich. My homemade dill and tomato cream soup was deelish and my grilled cheese sandwich on a pretzel bun was good. But they squished it so much in the panini press it was so flat and kinda weird to enjoy. So I recommend ordering it on just regular bread probably. Our waitress was really sweet and kept checking on us, even struck up a little convo about where we were from. I also ordered a red velvet cupcake to go and devoured it at my sis's house. Their cupcake was flavorful and most importantly not dry! I recommend for a nice lunch in a cute place.

Extremely cute, perhaps "adorable" little family owned and operated cafe. Hot Chocolate seems to be their thing as they have several types - check the "menu" for your choices - but only reg and decaf coffee on offer. We didn't have time to try a cupcake or pastry but they looked nummy. It's worth noting that they can host parties for children and those that are young at heart. The flyer we looked at seemed to have reasonable prices.

Very cute cafe. Ordered a panini which came with chips & a few slices of pickles. It was good but prob not worth $8, so a little overpriced. Had a yummy cupcake which they strategically placed in the front of the cafe.

This place is very, very, very pink. It is obnoxiously pink. It is so pink that I know people who have refused to go in because they didn't want to be seen there. I like the vintagey style they're going for, but they could tone down their monochromaticness a tad. The food and the cupcakes are DELICIOUS and CHEAP. They have a "you pick two or three" menu that's a really great lunch deal. Choose from half sandwiches/paninis, soups, salads, drinks, quiche and cookies. The service when they first opened was sweet but completely incompetent. Now that they've been up and running a while, the service has markedly improved. This is a great lunch place.

What a lovely place!! They always made me a great chicken salad when I worked nearby and called in an order. I haven't tried anything else but it all looks delicious. I no longer live in Kzoo but this is a nice spot to come for a coffee or snack if you're in the downtown area!

Such a sweet place to take my daughter and they are always so nice there. Good place for lunch even without the little ones. The staff are super nice and love to strike up a conversation and help with anything you need. And they are great at selling you more cupcakes than you need :)

So cute and yummy! Just went here for lunch. They have a nice, healthy assortment of salads, quiches, sandwiches, and paninis. I got a big lunch, slice of quiche, 1/2 panini on pretzel bread, chips, pickle, and a bite of beet for under $8. They also have cupcakes, cookies, gelato, sorbet, brownies, italian soda, and coffee.

Food is good and consistent. Prices are fair and the staff are always nice, helpful and a pleasure. It is one of the bright spots on the Kalamazoo Mall for lunch.

Best Cupcakes and Chicken Salad Sandwich I have ever had and I live in Chicago! This place is a must try, and once you try it once, you will go back for sure.

My son had a kid's meal. I was very pleased with it. Nutrious, sensible, and fun. Our sandwiches were good also.

Delicious baked goods! I recently tasted a Red Velvet Cup Cake with Cream Cheese frosting. The presentation was perfect while the cupcake was moist and fluffy. The best part was the flavor, often red velvet does not have very much flavor but these cupcakes have redefined my opinion of Red Velvet Cake. You could really taste the coco in these cupcakes and it was not over powering. Awesome! Clearly the best Red Velvet Cupcake I've ever tasted!

Delicious cupcakes, check. Tasty lunch entrees, check. Adorable atmosphere, check. Garden Gate Cafe is a Kalamazoo gem tucked on the mall and if you haven't been here yet, you MUST go. Every flavor of cupcake I've had here has been beyond delicious, and their other desserts have been just as tasty (brownies, cookies, etc). If you're looking for a cute place for lunch, or just for a little snack, this is a perfect place to go!

I have eaten at the Garden Gate Cafe several times. The people who work there are very friendly and knowledgeable. The food is delicious and the serving sizes are right on. They have the cutest little details in their cafe!! I believe there is a sign not the wall that says "Stinkin Cute!" They have yummy food to ice cream treats to pick from. Which, I have had several. I would recommend The Garden Gate to anyone!!
