We have been to Arcadia several times since it opened in Kalamazoo and really enjoyed their beer selections and unique atmosphere. The other day we went there specifically to eat and this review is more about that. There were two of us and we planned on sharing. We went to the BBQ counter in the back and looked over meat selections. The gal working there was very helpful explaining our various choices and we decided on beef brisket, a couple of ribs and burnt ends. Then we chose our sides: smoked kale with peppers, quinoa salad and honey-jalapeno corn bread. The selections come "cafeteria style" in paper trays and the sauces are in a can on the table. I discovered that mixing the sweet sauce and the hot sauce was the perfect combo for me. I liked the brisket although I am picky about fat in my meat and had to eat around a lot of it. The ribs and burnt ends were just what we expected- messy and charred- and we had quite a bit to bring home. We were not fans of the smoked kale salad- it was just too smoky and difficult to chew. The cornbread was excellent! Moist, sweet with a kick. We ordered another to bring home with the leftover ribs. Quinoa salad was a bit oniony but definitely one we'd order again. Overall, I'd say the food is worth trying but not unless you like strong flavors and are more of an adventurous eater.

First off, once you find the place you will be rewarded with some good BBQ. No sings out front, maps are a bit off. It's not the easiest place to find, it looks like an oil refinery out front. The ribs were very, very good, juicy and tender, think dry rub! The brisket was equally good, but quite dry and tough. The waitress was awesome, the drinks are separate from the BBQ. The guy at the food counter wasn't very helpful, but the second guy guy was great.

Nice atmosphere but disappointing in all other areas. If you ask, they will tell you the Mac and cheese is vegetarian except for the little bit of lard in it. That's not vegetarian at all to me.

Atmosphere is great! Watch out on the patio tables in the sun - the tops are metal and get HOT. The beer is great! Good selection. My fav was the cheap date session beer! Kinda weird how you have to order food from the deli side and not from a server. They had a variety of BBQ'd meats which were very good. Highly recommend the fresh jalapeño poppers! We prefer the food situation at the battle creek location better where you can just order from the service staff and they bring it out.

In Kalamazoo, we have to support the best of the best and I really think this place surpasses many raved about (and totally overrated) other restaurant/brewpubs. They get both sides of the house right. English style ales are on point and the BBQ is the best I have had outside of Texas. Yes, the BBQ here is better than Smoke in Detroit. No offense but that place gets a lot of cred and I find that their staggering bourbon selection makes up for mediocre food. Arcadias BBQ is legit and the sides are creative and delicious. Brisket, ribs, sausages and chicken are all worth it. Do a little taste of each and share. It'll give a good sense of what you will have when you return (yes, you will return). The greens are always on the menu despite not being on the chalk board so get those for sure. The beet salad is a real standout on the menu. Fresh ingredients and great flavors in this one. Bean salad is also very good. I know that it's hard to screw up mac and cheese but it is equally hard to elevate it to something memorable. Arcadia mac and cheese is excellent and a great compliment to all the meats. I really cannot say enough about this place. I have been back with several times with folks from in and out of town, and the feedback is uniformly positive. The only exception to this rule seems to be the Battle Creatures who come and are irate that this Arcadia doesn't have pizza. Some of them actually won't even try the food here because their universe has been shattered by the lack of consistency with the dungeonesque feel of the original Arcadia and lack of pizza at Arcadia-Kalamazoo. I find this comical as hell since there are about .75 places worth eating out in Battle Creek. Finally, the wait staff are helpful and relaxed. Ask the bartenders to tell you about their conversations with the bros who make jokes about ordering a Big Dicks Ale. I like it when bartenders fire back with vigor!

Today was my 2nd attempt to try Arcadia Kalamazoo. My server was great. But the flow of this restaurant makes no sense. So, I tried it again. Even more disappointed. No one explains the flow of order beer in one room and food in another room. Today, I stood in line for food at 3:33. The food guy said, "kitchens closed." I said, you're a restaurant, right? I want food. You have food. He said come back in 25 minutes. I took my money else where. This this guy sat outside and drank beer at the table next to me. I will not go back. Two bad impressions is not my perception. This is reality. Too many other destinations in Kalamazoo to waste my time here. GO ANY WHERE ELSE!!! Ridiculous flow. No personality in the workers - other than my server Amber. She was great. Have the servers serve the food and fit h this horrible "cafeteria" flow.

First..there is no name or address on the property. Is there a secret handshake I wasn't told about? Secondly...there is no one to welcome you or a sign to tell you to seat yourself. Once at an awkward community sized table a disinterested waitress finally comes over to get a drink order, but no food menu or explanation that you have to go to the back to stand in line for overpriced food....which we didn't get. We were there at 3:31 pm. The cook told us they were switching to dinner and we couldn't order the food that we could see in the case 2 feet in front of us. We were told to wait to 4 pm to come back to stand in line for a meal. (oh ya...you could fit the whole menu on a bar napkin). The prices are higher than Latitude 42 or Bells and I have to serve myself? Not all different ways of doing something are better. We went back to our table to wait for the waitress to pay the tab on my one beer, but she must have had something better to do when there was only 12 customers there. I left the last money they will ever get from me on the table and left. Big surprise....no one noticed us leaving.

Beers were okay. Service was not good, but not the waitresses fault. It looked like two girls were serving the entire dining room which resulted in us being almost done with our food before put beers came. The open seating concept is good in theory but horrible when put in practice. Also told a staffer that a. Stall was out of toilet paper half hour later the stall was still out of toilet paper. Feel sorry for the guy who sat down before checking.

We were pleasantly surprised to discover Arcadia on an outing to Kalamazoo. We went there for lunch with our three children who'd been asking us for ribs and were delighted to see locally sourced pork from Bear Foot Farm, a great organic farm in Paw Paw, on the menu. After speaking to the chef we learned that they have a smoker where they prepare the ribs and try to buy all of their food locally--very cool! We also learned from chatting with the wait staff that a lot of the building materials used at the brewery were recycled from local buildings. Our children loved the fact that all of the silverware was different and there were a variety of different chairs to choose from. Our three boys were their typical rambunctious selves yet everyone was pleasant and made us feel welcome. We've found this isn't always the case at these types of establishments. On our way out my husband had two growlers filled (the growlers were from a different brewery yet they didn't refuse to fill them like another local brewery I won't mention). We enjoyed the WhitSun Ale and IPA over the next week or so back home. We've been back a few times since and have also enjoyed the Rapunzel and Cheap Date. This brewery is a wonderful addition to Kalamazoo!

The service we had was excellent. I'm not sure when the last time I had such a friend male server. We sat outside on the patio near the river and enjoyed the beer and the atmosphere.

I really like the beer offerings at Arcadia. It's one of the few places that does a scotch ale and they have a really good one in "Loch Down". Their seasonal Whitsun is a good light summer wheat ale. I'd like to try the food but I really don't care for the cafeteria style tray and line model that they have. I don't understand why they don't just have a menu and have the servers take your order. I mean they already have servers coming to your table, taking your beer order, why do I have to go wait in line to get food? Even still I think it is worth stopping in for a beer every now and then. I've never had one there that I thought was bad and they've got a couple that I'd put in the top 10-15 you can get in Kalamazoo.

Horrible service!! Beer is good but, having been there twice now, I will never go back. The servers have no interest in helping customers (both times I went, two different servers). Food is okay at best but absolutely not worth the two hour wait both times I was there (2 hours for deli/food truck food?!). The manager felt awful the first time and did make it right, which is why I gave it a second go, but after the second time it is clear that this is just what is to be expected.

Great addition to the Kalamazoo community. I actually prefer both their beer and food to Bell's.

Disappointing! We are a fan of Arcadia Battle Creek, but we live in Kalamazoo, so my husband and I were kind of excited about the Kalamazoo location opening (mostly so we wouldn't have to drive so far). Last Friday 6/6/14, we decided to give the new local a try. The building was very nice, and location on the river is great. Love the patio area & the barn wood theme. We were quite confused on the food ordering process; it's more of a hot deli style ordering at the counter system. (#1 let down) When I go out for a $50 meal, I want table service - not order & pick up food at a counter. If they want to charge prices like this, they need to offer table service and at least throw in a HOT potato and a salad. What I really wanted for dinner was a wood fire pizza. I'm not sure if there are only certain times for this or maybe they just don't offer it at this location? They were too busy to ask the waitress, and there weren't any menu's (besides for beer) anywhere to be seen. I ordered the chicken, my husband ordered the pork. Didn't care too much for the pork, but my husband enjoyed it. The chicken was very good - but WAY overpriced. Charged around $15/plate for 1/4 pound of meat and a side of potato salad. Although good, it wasn't $15 per 1/4 pound good. I could have sufficed with a rotisserie chicken and deli potato salad from Harding's for 1/4 the price. They didn't have their sangria available (#3 let down). Apparently they normally have it; but not that day?? The two reason's I came here were pizza & sangria and I got neither. I also intended to have a nice meal with my husband and our son; and all they had were community tables (not my style) and my husband spent half of our dinner hour standing in line getting our food (which took a LONG time considering he was 2nd in line). Next time, I will be driving to Battle Creek.

Very cool experience! We liked it so much we brought friends back the next evening. The setting is open and spacious kind of like a German beer hall feel. Beer choices were good and the food was great. The Rapunzel was my choice -loved it. The mac and cheese was excellent. Well definitely return.

Great beer but the food is over priced for the quality and amount. The brisket is really good but you barely get any. Their fried okra is tasteless and wouldnt dare be served down south, plus it was just a small hamdful for a high price. Very limited parking.

Beer was good as expected. Food was subpar. Way too smokey and unconventional. My girlfriend and I were very excited to try this place out as we are huge Arcadia fans. I will still drink the beer but my gut is now telling me to stay away from the food (seriously my stomach is killing me)

It was okay, we went there for dinner with my family. I thought it was more of a restaurant, that is not the case. You order from like a college cafeteria and pay by the quarter pound. Now I liked the smoked brisket and chicken. But if you don't like smoked food don't go here. Now I rate the bar bq baked beans a 5. Those were the best I have ever had. Not very kid friendly. I think there was only one child seat. And the waiter was confused and we didn't get good service. Some of the things we asked for we didn't get. I got a flight of beers and I didn't care for any of them. There were like three beers that they ran out of so those were probably the better beers. The building and inside are really cool and classy, but like I said i was hoping for more of a restaurant. I wish it was more of the Battle Creek Arcadia in that aspect. The prices for the cafeteria style food was reasonable.
