One of a kind. Great bakery! The bread is the best. No preservatives. 100 year old coal fired oven. I've heard it's the only coal fired oven bakery in the Midwest.
Can't believe I'm the first to review this amazing bakery! The best Rye bread in Michigan hands down. There cookies are sometimes a little different in a good way. Had my first Sugar Raisin cookie here last week. Brownies are decent, pound cakes are very good. Pretty inexpensive, loaves around $2-$4 depending upon size. Cash only.

China Chef

Reviews:
This new Chinese restaurant just opened in Vandercook Lake right on the main drag, McDevitt, right in between Tanfastic & Dollar General, by the Hague intersection. I was excited to see a Chinese place opening up, something different & Vandercook doesn't have much variety. So I went and tried it with my daughter and I was very impressed. You order at the counter and can get it take out or eat there. They are very friendly & it's an open kitchen, you can see in the back so you know the food is fresh. They just totally remodeled it so it is very clean with lots of authentic Chinese decor. There are about 4 or 5 booths & a couple tables. But I had no problem finding a place to sit. We placed our order then sat & the food was cooked in about 10 minutes, It came out fast and hot. I ordered crab rangoon & sweet & sour chicken & both were delicious. My daughter ordered Moo Shu Pork & it was also very tasty. The servings were very big & the prices were reasonable. I ended up taking a lot home. I highly recommend this place. I like to see small, local businesses succeed. I will defintely be back again and will recommend it to all my friends

China One Buffet

Reviews:
This is actually my favorite restaurant.. The reason I like it so much is that the buffet offers a tremendous amount of nutrition in a tasty format. You're whisked right in. You're waited on immediately. They step aside and there is this huge expanse of fish, fruits, vegetables, beef, pork, chicken, dessert, etc. They even have a Mongolian counter. It is awesome! I get tiny portions of as many different things as I can. I usually try to get some salmon but sometimes I just don't have the room for it! 60 and over get a discount but the place is usually filled with young people and families. Near the end of the year they have calendars printed on a bamboo mat FOR FREE! My wife asked for one after they were all out. Our waitress told my wife that she would bring her own from home for her. She insisted! The food is great and so are the staff. I can't recommend a place more highly. Check them out on Facebook facebook.com/pages/China…

Have been here a few times at all different hours and it has always been very good. The staff was super helpful in recommending flavors and combinations. This place is somewhat comparable to a Cold Stone but they have way more options and seem to be a little less expensive. Great atmosphere and lots of seating. Food quality and taste - 5/5 Staff friendliness - 5/5 Value - 4/5 Atmosphere - 5/5 Staff knowledge of menu - 5/5

Very good food and friendly service. Cafeteria style as said by other reviewers which was something new to experience at a restaurant personally. Reasonably priced.
Breakfast is great. Just note that it is cafeteria style. This threw me off when I walked in the door. The menu is on the wall opposite of the cash register. If you choose to dine in they bring your food to the table. This place is a lot larger than it appears from the outside.
I do not give 5 stars lightly...see my record. After Hurricane Katrina, I made my way back to cold, cold Michigan to wait out the evacuation. There is not much left in Jackson's downtown and for breakfast on a weekend, it was almost impossible to get anything. EVERYTHING was closed. But luckily, I happened upon BZB. All I wanted was a simple breakfast worth eating and I got so much more. The eggs were cooked perfectly; the bacon was, too. But the toast...Oh my sweet lord of food...the toast...I ordered English muffin toast thinking it would be interesting. It was so much more. It was crack toast. Seriously...I bake bread and I could NOT have hoped for a more perfect English muffin toast if it had been created in a particularly vibrant wet dream. I ordered 4 helpings of it and almost a decade later, I have not had a better English muffin toast than that. Thank you for making my terrible time away from New Orleans a bit easier, BZB.

Hinkley Bakery

Reviews:
I love HInkley's doughnuts!! It's no suprise they have such a great following. They have sellers all over the county. Out on us12 towards chelsea there's a little coffee 'shop' that sells their tasty treats, and gas stations all over town use them, and only them. Which helps, because, well, their hours are a bit odd. If you're awake at 5am and have time, they're worth a wait in line!
I have never actually been to Hinkley's, even having grown up in Jackson. Every year for lent, I convince an old high school friend to pick up an order of Paczki's and ship them to me...in California. No joke. They are the best I have ever had and would no doubt show up there if I am ever in town! It's hard to find the hours online but they are Wed - Sat 5:15 am - 1:00 pm.
no one makes better donuts than hinkley's. period. end of story. always fresh, always warm, always straight from the oven. the hours aren't convenient, the location is a little sketchy and the actual store looks a little run down... but oh the glorious donuts! this place is always packed and almost as good as the donuts themselves is the delicious smell that fills the air as soon as you hit the parking lot. i dare say that hinkley's is nearly worth a trip to jackson. go for the jelly filled or the glazed.

Oak Tree Lounge

Reviews:
From the road this place is set back with a dirt parking lot. Does not look real inviting but I found it on Yelp and the reviews stated that the hamburgers were really good. When you walk up the ramp to the patio, there was plenty of outside seating and everyone was having a good time. We chose to eat in the air-conditioning because we were outside quite a bit already and the inside was not as busy. My family, I was with (regulars), said the hamburgers were good and The Roast Beef sandwich was one of their favorites too. On the wall, they had a chalkboard with daily food specials. Everything sounded wonderful. My family decided to order The Mighty Oak burger that was talked about in the previous reviews and I decided on the The Mighty Mike burger that came with a special sauce on the side and green olives and blue cheese crumbles on the hamburger. The hamburgers came with a choice of either fries, cole slaw, homemade tavern chips, the daily picnic salad or cottage cheese. Wow, healthy options but I was on vacation so I got the homemade tavern chips. Homemade potato chips, made there daily. Even though we were in a full service bar, I got a Pepsi. And impressive, it came in a Pepsi cup. The hamburger was good but I really could not taste the blue cheese and for me, there was not enough olives. The bun was good, not a traditional bun, plus it was toasted on the inside, giving the edges an additional crunch and flavor. The tavern chips were good and crispy, but the special sauce, I could do without, not to special. Our waitress was Renee and she was really nice, friendly and made sure our table was well taken care of. Fun place, good food and I would come again.
Fantastic burger! Just a couple blocks from downtown on a largely residential street - don't think you're lost! A couple surprising things on the menu and several specials including Truffle fries, 4+ kinds of soup, salads looked great, and some veg and gluten free options. Rustic, paneled - basically neighborhood bar - service is friendly and attentive :-) If you are looking for quality food, don't hesitate!
Nice lil bar in a residential area. My first thought, WTF, then once I saw this place, pleasantly surprised. Burger was really good and handmade chips were yummy. Had to sit inside because it was raining. Inside is small but quaint. I will come back to sit on patio and have some drinks! Cheers P/s: Big ass burger! Come hungry!
