Had breakfast here twice while visiting this past week. I was craving pumpkin pancakes and looked up restaurants that might make them. This had great reviews, so we decided to give it a try. Wednesday when I asked about pumpkin pancakes they were not making them that day, but she went right into the kitchen to see if maybe Thursday they would. Sure enough they would have pumpkin pancakes. Tried the blueberry pancakes. Out of this world. Thursday we came back and sure enough... Pumpkin pancakes. They were wonderful. I made sure they told the chef how much I appreciated the wonderful treatment. Can't wait to come back next September.

Been coming here for decades and I'm never disappointed. This time I had the bob's special omelette and it was great. The homemade corned beef hash is incredible and the omelette was heavy and satisfying. Also had the double blueberry pancakes and they were fluffy and delicious. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. Even when there is a long line, the wait isn't usually too bad because they can turn tables around pretty quick. An Ogunquit breakfast institution, just as the Ogunquit Lobster Pound across the street is THE place for lobster and steamers in town. Highly recommend.

On the weekend and anywhere outside of LI, I yearn for that diner experience. It's a LI way of living. I mean, you can't drive 5 minutes without passing by a town diner. All I need are solid egg/pancake options, juice and a bottomless cup of coffee. That being said, on the last day of my Maine trip I wanted to have a hearty breakfast before I hit the road. The Egg & I is a cute spot that the locals flock to. It's located right off the main road, so you can't miss it. Inside, the vibe is super casual and relaxed. The service was friendly and quick even though it was pretty busy (for a Wednesday morning too). I perused the menu and saw the staples like waffles and pancakes but with a Maine touch. Blueberry options in everything, which I loved. But in the end, I decided on a build your own omelette with green peppers, onions, broccoli, spinach and cheddar. Came with hash browns which were good as well. It was very filling and a perfect start to my day. If you're looking for a casual breakfast/brunch joint, stop here!

It's a good restaurant, nothing above average. The food and service were both good, but somewhat bland. Apart from a creative name and hometown feel it tends to blend in a little with most of the Waffle House style restaurants that scatter highways everywhere. The cash only expectation is annoying in a place where tourists frequent. It's not quite "dive" or "ma and pa" enough for the inconvenience. If you're looking for a quick, consistent, and affordable breakfast spot this place is exactly what you want. But understand what it is before you drop by or you'll definitely be disappointed. And don't forget some cash!

Heard a lot about this place, never been. Finally went for breakfast on vacation. Food was good/average. Service great, place is clean and quick. They don't take credit or debit cards, so bring cash.

The cute little name of this breakfast establishment appealed to us as we cruised along Route 1 in hopes of satisfying our craving for bacon and eggs. It is your typical breakfast place with paper placemats and upside down coffee mugs on each table. Very low key and casual, but exactly what we wanted. The waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. Our food came out quickly and hit the spot. Good food, but nothing special. My scrambled eggs tasted better than they looked, but I wished my bacon was a little more crispy. This restaurant is cash only which can be somewhat of an inconvenience. There is an ATM as you enter, but it is oddly positioned very close to a table. It puts you in an awkward position of feeling as though you should converse with the people at the table while you make your withdrawal. Of course that ATM withdrawal comes with a service charge of almost $3.00 as well so beware. Decent, but probably would not be rushing back especially with so many other nearby breakfast options.

I have seen this restaurant every time I have gone to Ogunquit but never tried it before this past Memorial Day weekend. A short wait at the door but we were seated fairly quickly. They have a very extensive breakfast menu so everyone's cravings can be met. I had their special Lemon Cream filled French Toast and my friend had the Eggs Benedict with their homemade hash. Both exceptionally good (it's really hard to find good hash) with huge portions. We could only eat half but had the rest for breakfast the next morning. Our waitress was also extremely friendly and attentive. The only thing you need to know ahead of time is they only take cash. I can't wait to go back the next time I'm there.

Very solid breakfast joint. All good is fresh and they move the line quickly (they is always a line). Longest wait has been 15 minutes, even with a party of seven. Remember that this place is cash only. Very kid friendly and the staff is very friendly and efficient.

A staple of breakfast in the Ogunquit area. Decent food, kinda cramped, busy place. Staff is fairly attentive but when it's busy they run around, nothing bad, just a fact of life at The Egg & I. Pricing is fairly average compared to other places in town. We go every year and will continue to do so.

One of the best brunch I ever had. The best part of the brunch is having Amanda's special Blueberry muffin. Muffin was freshly baked and filled with vanilla ice cream and blueberry preserves. It was utterly delicious and melted in the mouth. I never had such a delicious muffin.

Great diner-style breakfast with options galore! The Egg & I offers a incredible number of options for eggs, omelets, waffles, pancakes, and french toast. No matter what your craving, there is a great option for you here. My wife and I stopped by on a Sunday morning for breakfast during peak season. As long as you get in before 10AM or so, there is no wait. My wife got the eggs benedict with home made corned beef hash. Great seasoning with parsley, onions, salt, on big english muffins and topped with perfectly poached eggs. You get a big serving that sets you up for a productive day. I had the waffle which was large and topped with strawberry sauce. It was sweet and slightly salty. Just perfect. Overall, Egg & I is a must stop for breakfast when in the area.

  • Chris H.

This place is always crowded but they do a good job of moving people through. It is cash only so be prepared. I'd give the food a 3 and the staff a 5. Hash was good but the home fries were mushy. We got a 1/2 cantaloupe which was fresh and good. Our waitress was timely and friendly even though it was very busy.

  • Heather M.

Not great. Service was slow and not super friendly. My sausage arrived cold and my boyfriends Eggs Benedict had an untoasted english muffin and uncooked raw spinach.

  • Sal O.

Very disappointing, not worth the hype. It's pretty much a cash only tourist trap. And you would think that since their saving on credit fees by being cash only that the prices would be low, well guess again, be prepared to pay a lot more than other breakfast places in the near by area. We figured we would have saved about $10.00 if we had ordered the same thing somewhere else. Coffee was lousy and waitress seemed to have an attitude because my wife needed another minute to decide what she wanted. She ended up getting pan cakes which was a little greasy and over cooked. I got a ham cheese omelette which was nothing fancy. Over all we were very dissatisfied. Save your money and enjoy breakfast somewhere else.

Best breakfast around - hands down! They have an awesome selection, cozy atmosphere and of course the food - speaks for itself. They even have scratch made corned beef hash (which I am very picky about) that was to die for! We are locals and sad that they are only open seasonally because we return as often as we can!

I've been here before, this visit wasn't as good as the first one though. The coffee was bad. But the food was good. Service was good, she was attentive.

We had breakfast there in early June 2015 and truly enjoyed the food and the ambience. WE were greeted warmly at the door and Nokia, a fellow lover of dolphins, efficiently and with grace took care of our orders. You could observe the compradore of the wait staff as they assisted each other and it was a wonderful experience. Relaxed and warm atmosphere. Great way to start your morning.

Usually make 3-4 trips to the Egg and I restaurant while I'm on vacation in Maine. The breakfast and lunch is outstanding, all homemade, usually I order either for breakfast i'll have Eggs Florentine, Berry pancakes, or Two Eggs, bacon, toast, potatoes. For lunch I'll either have the homemade chicken salad club or the soup of the day. Meals always taste great, lots of choices on the menu such as omelets, french toast, pancakes, eggs benidict, oatmeal, tuna, chicken salad, soup, burgers reubans. Service is always excellent, staff is very tentive and do check backs to make sure everybodys happy with there meal. the restaurant only excepts cash, but there is an ATM machine located inside the restaurant. Food prices are very resonable to as well.

Breakfast here was fantastic. I got a veggie omelet that was packed with fresh veggies, accompanied by delicious homefries and very buttery toast. The coffee was nothing spectacular, but for diner-ish coffee, it certainly served the purpose and it wasn't bad. The staff was very friendly, and wasn't phased by my rambunctious toddler who was protesting breakfast. He got a chocolate chip pancake, which came in the shape of mickey mouse, and was FULL of chocolate chips. It was delicious (which I know, since he was on a breakfast strike, we couldn't let it go to waste :) ) We went super early, so there was no wait, but I think this place gets hectic at a normal dining time.

Very delicious! Everything we ordered was yummy and everyone was happy! Favorites were: extra blueberry pancakes, pumpkin bread French toast, and the chili omelet. All pictures provided to make you hungrier! ;) Our waitress was slow but the food came fast after we ordered and made up for her..and she was sweet and old..so it's no biggie! The times on this place are weird so get there when u can! Deff worth it!

I've been vacationing in Ogunquit since the 1980's and have always had fond memories of eating at 'The Egg and I'. Nevertheless, today's visit will be my last. My boyfriend and I woke up early to beat the rush arriving at 6:30 to a nearly empty parking lot. When we walked in there was no warm greeting just a annoyed looking waitress who ushered us to our table. The first thing we noticed was the menu that stated the establishment was cash only. I cannot believe that in 2014 places that depend on tourists still exist without accepting credit cards of any type. While there was an ATM in the front, beware there is a service charge of $2.75. The entire visit seemed extremely rushed by the waitstaff, which was ironic because it was an empty restaurant. We had to ask for water which is typically a given. The food itself was adequate. I got the Eggs Benedict which was pretty standard. It did arrive quickly and hot. The home fries were very soggy and bland; not worth it eating. My boyfriend got the coconut French toast which was simply plain French toast with toasted coconut sprinkled on top rather than being mixed into the batter. Not even halfway through the meal the waitress brought our check over and told us we could pay up front. This restaurant seems to only have making a quick turn over in mind. Customer service is non-existent. With so many fabulous breakfast options in the area, I would highly recommend choosing elsewhere. As another reviewer said one star is very generous.

Busy, busy with loads of customers, but no worries, service was prompt. Good breakfast. Air conditioning on, but equipment did not keep restaurant cool enough during our visit the week of July 4. Left full, but sweaty. Also, at this writing, CASH only. ATM available inside.

Who wouldn't love a musical-themed breakfast joint in Maine? My group of 6 arrived at 8:30 AM on a Friday morning and were surprised to see people already waiting outside. That means it must be good. Luckily, the restaurant is pretty big, so we were seated within 10 minutes. The interior of the place is a bit kitschy with musical posters gracing the walls. I like it. The service was friendly and casual, with the waiters frequently coming around with coffee pots asking if we needed to be topped off. Much appreciated at 9 in the morning. None of us could decide whether to go with savory or sweet (the eternal breakfast dilemma) so someone had the ingenious idea of ordering 3 different pancakes for the table. Like a breakfast dessert. I'm all for it. I love burritos. Especially of the breakfast variety. And this one did not let me down. It was filled with cheese, eggs, green peppers, onions, and sausage. Salsa and sour cream came on the side along with home fries. Super filling and satisfying. The stand-out of the meal was the pancakes. We ordered 3 tempting flavors: blueberry, almond joy, and cranberry almond (which was the special of the day). The blueberry was served with a perfect little ball of blueberry butter on top, which was simply divine. They used tiny Maine blueberries, so it tasted very fresh. And oh my. The almond joy pancake sincerely gave me joy. It combined chocolate chips, coconut, and almonds in a perfect pancake package served with coconut maple syrup on the side. Honestly, I'd much rather consume these breakfast babies than the candy bar. The cranberry almond pancake was also good but had less flavor and fillings so was just not on the same level as the other two. I'd skip it next time. If you wake up in Maine, suffering from hunger pains, and wish to consume breakfast while viewing a poster of Singing in the Rain, then don't refrain... eat here!

Your average bacon and egg and pancake place. It only takes cash. I have a summer home nearby. It is Nothing great. Long long line in the tourist season when there are so many better choices in OGT. Probably because there is available parking.

Eggs Benedict with Sausage Patties were amazing. Pancakes were deep and fluffy, cooked to perfection. Ignore the rating and some of the negative comments and if you in the area needing breakfast, you will struggle to get any better. As quick as you drink your coffee it's filled back. Got a maple and pecan muffin and it was gargantuan.

  • Amanda O.

I order biscuits and gravy, a veggie egg white omelette, and two coffees. It was all disgusting. The sausage and gravy tasted freezer burnt, the veggie were not fresh and diluted from being frozen, and the coffee was awful, thin, extremely hot, and burnt. They only take cash and the ATM charges $2.75. The people are friendly.

We had a group of 8. Initially the maître d was a bit rude, but once we were seated, the waitress was great and good with our 2 seven year old boys. Eggs Benedict were perfectly cooked, Bob's Benedict has great corned beef hash in it, and the French toast supreme was also very good. The bacon waffle tasty but too small. On a Monday in August at 8:30 am the restaurant was completely full.

One of the only times I can remember having to see a diner use a pager system because its so crowded. I wasn't expecting it pulling up to a breakfast place in Ogunquit, but then again, I guess word spreads. This was our first trip to the Egg, and the wait wasn't too bad (20 minutes). It isn't that large inside. So that can certainly be the cause of the backup. The service was very friendly and fast. My wife had the sampler with French toast. I went with the omelette special and a side of corned beef hash. It was diner fare, done well, and enjoyable. Plus it was a good atmosphere, and everything tastes better when you're on vacation. Don't forget it's cash only!

I ate here awhile back, but I have to say, it was a great experience. Was part of a party of 12 for breakfast. Didn't have to wait too long and service was great. I had the sausage gravy and biscuits...so good! Perfect gravy and wonderful biscuits. A tablemate had the blueberry French toast which was sooo good. Everyone enjoyed their meals, the coffee was delicious. This place is so much better than Bessie's!

    (4)
  • Barbara A.

For that kind of wait, I really expected more from the experience. I remember a place like this when I was a kid and it was good. This was just average and I have given them a chance every year I go, just in case I ordered the wrong "thing". The real disappointment were the blueberry pancakes. It is Maine, right - known for blueberries, right. Why are your "blueberry" pancakes served with a blueberry compote that I could get a IHOP!?? This year, the family we go with might recommend, but not this time. Considering the lines, they really don't need my business anyway.

    (2)
  • NH D.

Good food, plenty of parking. Get the double blueberry pancakes. You won't be disappointed. This means you will get them in the pancake and then more on the side in a small dish. Very good! Coffee wasn't great.

  • Lauren D.

Cute and clean place, waitress was nice, food arrived promptly. Food was tasty but nothing exceptional. I got the breakfast sampler with French toast and my mom got the make your own omelet. We waited until Monday to come, not worth waiting the long weekend lines for.

Two words: feeding trough. My gf and I were unfortunate enough to have experienced this place (more than once!), and these days, we avoid the Egg & I like the plague. Do not let the big inviting sign, and long lines fool you; once you're (eventually) seated, you will be treated to the most underwhelming breakfast of your life (outside of an IHOP or the like). The Egg & I is a lot bigger than it looks like on the outside, but in this case, that's not a good thing. If you're not lucky enough to be seated at a booth, you'll be taken to dine in the back room, and seated at their long uncomfortable benches (think community church gatherings). The eggs are all carton substitutes, the coffee is tasteless, even by diner standards, and everything from the bacon to the hash browns is mediocre. My gf was excited to try the biscuits and gravy, but was completely disappointed. Service isn't that great either, but I think that has more to do with how busy the place gets. Also, every time I've been here, it's always With so many great breakfast places in the ogunquit/wells area, it's a wonder that this place gets so much business... plus sitting outside for however long just adds insult to injury. As a good alternative, I'd recommend bessie's in ogunquit center. It may look like a tourist trap, but very good, and the eggs are real.

Good pancakes! Blueberry came with blueberry butter and the whole bottom layer of the pancake was solid blueberry. Well worth the $1.50 extra for real Maine maple syrup.

Had breakfast here two mornings in a row, on a Sunday and Monday in August. On Sunday big line, big wait, but not too long -- maybe 20 minutes at 10am. After we were seated, a little delay in service, but nothing to cry over. Had a stack of french toast with apples all over it; was very good! The next day, Monday, much smaller line, although the service was a bit slower (ironically). Had a really good omelet, cheddar and broccolli, done quite perfectly. I don't remember the price but it wasn't outrageous or anything. I'd recommend it!

Clean. Good service. French toast was mediocre though. My daughter had pancakes and they were good. They have real whipped cream. Fast.

  • Squidloe S.

Worst service we've experienced in Maine. Waiting over an hour for basic breakfast, nothing out of the ordinary. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else. We had Bessie's yesterday morning and it was better food and, comparatively, spectacular service. As an aside, the poor service wasn't unique to our party as we watched several other tables either complain to their server or the manager. 1 star is generous for this place.

Your typical greasy spoon. Dated decor. On the expensive side for diner food and CASH ONLY on top of it! End of story.

  • Cec D.

Delicious blueberry pancakes and cinnamon raisin toast, good coffee and fast, friendly, efficient service. Solid breakfast selection, nothing over the top or innovative, but a good breakfast nonetheless. Prices and portions are both reasonable and it looks like they are a master at serving large parties.

  • Chris O.

we were surprised how good this was - I had French toast (wheat bread, lot of flavor, not too heavy) and my wife had an omelette (very nice). We prefer a light breakfast that doesn't leave you feeling full and bloated - this was that type. If you want a heavy breakfast, go to Congdons or IHOP. Our 1 year old son is a real handful, wants to run around a restaurant and greet everyone - the wait staff were very friendly and accomodating, even entertaining him while we were getting organized to leave.

Came here with the family for breakfast on a weekend trip to Maine. We arrived around 8:30, and with the number of cars in the lot we were surprised to get a table right away. This was a huge plus, considering we had our 18-month-old with us; waiting for food with a toddler is a giant pain. Anyway, my pancake combo breakfast was delicious, and our son really liked his pancake. My husband had the chocolate-and-peanut butter chip pancake special, which was delicious, but should maybe have come with a side of insulin. Coffee was good, and our server was very attentive and sweet. Also nice that there were tons of kids there, so when ours made some extra noise we didn't really feel like we were bothering anyone. We rounded out our meal withe the purchase of a blueberry muffin to go... I just now ate some of it and it was delicious, as was the blueberry butter that it came with. Ordinarily, I would balk at paying $3 bucks for a muffin, but in this case, we had to take a picture of the thing next to our five-week-old's head, to see which was bigger. My husband assures me the baby won. I'm not convinced.

Good place for breakfast....worth the hour long wait that most have endured....no. I had the lobster benedict. Chewy english muffin topped with a fair amount of lobster chunks, perfectly cooked egg and hollandaise sauce. This was probably one of the better benedicts I've had in my life. Although I could have done without the mushy potatoes that accompanied it. The reason I only gave this restaurant a 3 is because the lobster omelette was so blah. It was just egg and lobster. If they would just add some basil and fresh tomatoes it would make this omelette amazing! The side of fruit is great for sharing. Huge bowl full of cantaloupe, honeydew (which I heard a server refer to it as the "Asian melon"), grapes and pineapple. Staff was friendly and the service was quick.

Echoing what everyone else said here--this place is good! I highly recommend the freshly made blueberry muffin. It's made (naturally) with wild Maine blueberries and comes with a delicious blueberry butter. I also tried the Iced Hazelnut Coffee this morning. Very solid. I drove an hour to get here just for the muffin. Yeah, I'm a fan. :-)

People who complain about the long lines here etc. do not know the first thing about eating out in Ogunquit, and that is the fact that timing is everything. Yeah it's a busy place, that is because it is popular I guess. I have no problem getting seated that is because I have some fame locally of course, appearing at the Ogunquit Playhouse quite frequently. No that's not true, I appear at Jonathan's with a reggae band from Jamaica. Well that's not true either. A pretty good breakfasty eggy place, it has a good vibe as in everyone wants to eat breakfast here. It is a local goldmine, the ladies who own it just stand up front collecting money, they are washed in it, I went up to the cashier to break a hundred and it was like getting change for parking, 5 twentys tossed back at me like it was chump change. But they have nice style and good for them and their breakfasty stuff was good and they even suggested a good place to stay nearby.

This is basically a diner, and not a good one. The eggs were flat and the food was not flavorful at all. The service was fine. This place always has a line, which is incredible since the food is not good. The next day we went down the road to Bintliff's and had a much better meal & better service with no wait. Don't bother with the Egg & I.

CASH ONLY. (ATM machine inside). And get there EARLY!! And order the MARYLAND CRAB CAKE EGGS BENEDICT!!! I was last in Ogunquit, Maine in July of 2002. I had eaten at the EGG and I back then, and had ordered the Maryland Crab Cake Eggs Benedict, and was incredible and left a lasting impression. Fast forward 9 years later almost exactly to the day, and remembering the wonderful breakfast I had years ago, I recommended this place to the 9 other family members traveling in our party. We had initially tried to go there for breakfast at 8:30, and it was jam packed, with people scattered across the parking lot waiting to get in. There's no way a party of 10 would be seated anytime soon, so we decided to return the following day. We return the next day at 7:30, and all 10 of us were seated immediately. Nice! Gotta say, Maine doesn't really seem like the best place in the world to have coffee because not a single place we tried served very good coffee, and EGG & I is no exception. There seems to be mixed reviews on here, and I haven't tried anything else on the breakfast menu, but after having the Maryland Crab Cake Eggs Benedict again, after last enjoying it 9 years prior, I remembered why this particular dish stood out in my head all this time! It's simply DELICIOUS! Some people in my party had the Lobster Eggs Benedict, and others had the Maryland Benedict, and we shared with one another, and hand's down, the Maryland Benedict is the best item on the menu! The poor reviews from other people were only given because they were not fortunate enough to have tried the MARYLAND CRAB CAKE EGGS BENEDICT. If you dine here for breakfast, this is all you need to order! PERIOD!!

Still a winner with the 2 pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 bacon strips for $8.59. The pancakes are a of a generous size and the eggs are great as well. Arriving after 11am, the place was virtually empty for a midweek day in October. No complaints at all. Still a cash only establishment, but there are bigger problems in the world than that.

I had no complaints about the food when I came to have breakfast here a couple of years ago. My omelet was cooked perfectly and the service was great despite a minor mix up of our order. The inside of this restaurant is kind of a hectic, bring your kid so they can scream their head off kind of place, which didn't thrill me but if that's okay with you check this place out.

Overall good food and friendly service. Banana nut pancakes were awesome....i think any of their pancakes would be good. My boyfriend got the steak and cheese omelet which was phenomenal. My only negative comment would be that the service was slow in terms of how long it took to get our food. Other than that I would recommend this place

  • Mark S.

Despite the claims of long wait times, we were seated immediately (only 2 people) on an August Sunday morning. It's a good thing too, because it would've ruined my day to wait half an hour for the overpriced pedestrian breakfast that I found inside. I don't understand what the fuss is about. In fairness, I didn't try the fancy french toast offerings (amaretto, pineapple, coconut, you name it). Instead, I got a simple dish of two eggs, potatoes, and toast. My SO got the regular french toast, and we split a side of hash. There was absolutely nothing remarkable about any of the food. Sure, eggs are eggs, but there could have been homemade jam for my toast, say, or maybe some maple syrup for the flavorless french toast. Even an excellent roast for the $2 coffees would have salvaged something. But there wasn't any of that. Everything was unremarkable, from the jam, the syrup, the coffee, all the way to the lack of cinnamon or vanilla in the french toast. What WAS remarkable was the cost for a breakfast you can get at any diner in any corner of the country. The above items totaled $22 and change before tip. No thank you.

Enjoyed a wonderful Sunday morning breakfast here. The blueberry pancakes were as good as it gets - loaded with blueberries and served with blueberry butter and blueberry compote. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly and the bacon was nice and crisp. The service was outstanding - Shelly was very friendly, made great recommendations on the menu, brought everything we needed, and kept our coffee cups full! I can see how some reviewers commented about it being a bit loud because at one point there were so many people talking we had a hard time talking to each other. Overall it was a very good experience and we would definately go back again.

Overpriced and overrated. I had the French toast, which had no flavor. Just some egg flavored toast. Was going to get a side of bacon, but was $4 extra. They don't take cards and was charged $2.75 to use their ATM. I have to add that the couple next to me were saying that they could of gotten a better breakfast at McDonalds. I have to say I agree.

Overrated, overpriced and they only take cash. Can you say hubris? Coffee like water and oversalted bacon. But at least there is a long wait on weekends....

Mediocre food. Overpriced and just not worth it.

We arrived at 9am on a Saturday and were seated without a wait. The coffee was served immediately and breakfast shortly thereafter. The waffles were perfect.

Just finished a great breakfast! The food and service was excellent. I enjoyed the "Breakfast Sampler" of 2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausage, and 2 French toast for under $9! My kids had the French toast and choc chip pancakes. Our server was so nice to draw several pictures on the front and write a nice message on the back of the receipt!

Mediocrity at its finest. A 30 minute wait, was followed by 10 minute wait till our waitress came by. Scrambled eggs tasted and looked like the powdered kind, the hollondaise sauce was bland, the pancakes were "meh" and the biscuits and gravy tasted like they were baked last month. Oh and the worst coffee I've ever had. It's expensive for sub par breakfast. Should have gone to McDonald's instead and saved $20. Try Amore on Shore Rd instead

This place has a pretty good breakfast menu. The place was quite busy when we got there around 10 AM, we were seated quickly though. Our waiter seemed a little overwhelmed with our party of four adults, he forgot our juice and toast and had to be reminded, but was apologetic and brought those out to us right away. To be fair, it should be noted we had a baby with us and several special requests. The food was good, especially the banana pancakes. They have a selection off eggs benedict but none in the party tried those. The price for the food amount and quality is very good. Other than our very small juice and toast issue everything was as should be expected. I'd go there again in a heart beat.

Had breakfast there this morning 6/6/11, great service, great atmosphere, and the eggs and home fries were just great.

Immediately seated as soon as we walked through the door (Tuesday 10 am in May) an asked if we wanted coffee. Hubby said coffee was best plain and without cream. I wanted something savory so I ordered an omelet with was stuffed with sausage, peppers, spinach and cheese. It was yummy and would have been terrific with salsa. Hubby ordered the 2 egg, 2 bacon, 2 sausage and 2 pancakes. For $1 more, he upgraded the pancakes to blueberry pancakes. Delicious! Fluffy! Filled with blueberries! Happy bellies afterwards. We were full until about 4:30 pm and a day of shopping at the outlets. Great breakfast and service!

I have a love hate relationship with Egg & I. I love love LOVE the breakfast but I refuse to wait an hour or more for it. If I go here, it's usually in the off season. What's better for breakfast than wild blueberry pancakes? Or if you are into savory, how about Lobster Benedict?? Fantastic! The lobster bene was my first ever breakfast from here and it's kept me coming back ever since. The service is super friendly and the portions are huge. It's very quaint (small, cramped) but I suppose that's part of the charm. **CASH ONLY

I thought it was a very quaint place. I really enjoyed the food and it was pretty moderately priced to me. I just got an egg sandwich, but I really wanted more! It was great and it was fun to be there in a big group.

Great food, but the wait can be a big problem. Expect to hang around outside for 30 to 45 minutes on a good day in the summer. Once you get inside, though, it's well worth it. Nothing really fancy here, just good service and huge portions. The specialty pancakes and French toast are excellent. Bring cash because they don't take debit or credit! Overall a great place to eat, we've been going here for 15 years and we're always happy with our food. You just have to decide whether you're in the mood for the long wait, which is pretty much guaranteed during the busy season.

Food was excellent. I had the country fried steak and the coconut French toast. Very tasty and cooked great. Good atmosphere, great town. Problem was the waitress. Poor service. Waited too long for coffee, no refill of beverages. We had to ask another waitress to do it for us.

Bob's Bennedict.....gets a 2 star rating.........Sauce was not at all lemony....I have never had such a bland tasting sauce on my bennedict before.I hate to say this but the coffe was "not good at all" It was lacking a robust coffee flavor..I'm not sure what blend they use but its time to change it. I can drink 3-4 cups at a sitting when I am out but my wife and I only had 1 cup each. Waitstaff including hostesses where awesome !!! They where all friendly ! All and all the egg and I won't be a ""DO-Over""" again...........I like Condons doughnuts, and I believe the name "sunrise" breakfast restaurant across the street from Varano's And square toes in Kennebunk to be my favorite breakfast spots over and over.Im sorry Egg and I..........I wont be back !!!

Great breakfast - try the wild Maine blueberry pancakes with the fresh blueberry compote and blueberry butter or the HOMEMADE corned beef hash (Not the shady canned crap that most eateries use). This is not the place for a leisurely brunch - they will have you in and out, full and happy in under an hour (and that's after waiting 15 mins. for a table)! Oldschool service and good eats, just what breakfast is all about!

I highly suggest the Corned Beef Hash - there are two kids make sure you get the homemade one. Just remember that they only take cash.

Serviceable breakfast. I was excited for crabcakes benedict, and subsequently let down when I got catfood benedict. That's my biggest pet peeve about crabcakes; I need large lumps, freshly fried, etc. Boyfriend enjoyed his lobster benedict. If I ever go here again (which I likely won't, given the wait), I'll order eggs, potatoes and toast.

I love this place and usually get there before the big rush. I love their eggs benedict and french toast. Those blueberry muffins just scream delicious. I wish they didn't take just cash, but they do have an atm in-house.

The Egg and I isn't good.. It is fantastic! I was fortunate enough to visit in the off season. The Bob's Benny was fantastic, as was the Veggie Benny. Our neighbors raved about the blueberry pancakes which were covered with tons of blueberries. The coffee was very good as well. Service was very quick, and waitress was attentive to make sure we were doing ok, and offered us more coffee several times.

We decided to try the restaurant today after a number of people said how good it was. I am not a difficult person to please. The wait was short, the staff was very courteous but I probably had the worst omelete ever. I ordered one of those "create your own" with 3 indgredients; so I choose Spinach Feta and Bacon. I know its all about moving tables and making money but I sure would haved liked the person who cooked my meal to have to eat it. Most of the bacon in the ometle was RAW. Also, I think they used canned spinach. It was watery and had a horrible taste to it. I made it through about a 1/3 of my meal and gave up.. Not sure i will try the place again, but if I do, it will be with something very basic. Hopefully they wont screw it up. There are a lot better breakfast places in the area for the money they charged and you cant even use a debit card. When I travel, I prefer to use plastic and not walk around with a lot of cash.

I'd heard, and read, a lot of good things about The Egg and I so my girlfriend and I swung in for breakfast on our first morning in Ogunquit (10/4). The service was so-so, as was the food quality. You get a huge portion for the price, so that was good - but I didn't see what all the fuss was about. I'll let you decide for yourself...

My boyfriend and I ate here this past weekend on Saturday morning. We had to wait about 5 minutes to get a table which wasn't bad at all, I thought we would have to wait a lot longer. I ordered a Greek omelet which came with toast and hash browns. My boyfriend had two fried eggs and hash. It was good, not the best breakfast I have ever had, but it was still good. For the price, the portions were very large. I should have ordered one of their eggs benedicts, I will definitely get that next time I eat here.

I hit this place up thinking "what I really need right now is some delicious breakfast-y foods," to make up for the fact that the expedition to Mekhong Thai II had been such a failure. I was not disappointed! It's a pretty basics sort of place, diner-style, but very clean and attractive. The staff was friendly, and the service was really quick. Now, the food. The food was good. Very tasty; much better than your IHOP or Bickford's. The Breakfast Special was hugely filling, with 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 strips of bacon, 2 pieces of toast, and finalls, 2 pieces of sausage! I was good for the day, alright. So, if you're craving breakfast foods in the Ogunquit area, this should be atop your list.

This has become somewhat of a tradition for the family. At least once every time we stay in Ogunquit, we have to get breakfast at the Egg & I. And yes, the wait can be awful, and yes, the place is cramped...but i'll be damned if it ain't the tasties breakfast in the area!

We have been going to Maine for 15 years now and have driven by this place several times. There was always a line (always a good sign!) However I ended up ordering the Lobster Omelet and it was totally disgusting ...I had two bites and couldn't even finish it (My bad I should have told the waitress, but I don't like to complain and my companions breakfast was ok) ,,,My girlfriend tried a bite and said the lobster wasn't even cooked....I had food poisoning all weekend...Their takeout menu has no phone number; so I couldn't call to even complain....I stopped by personally today on my way home to tell the owner of my experience..She was at the register and was embarrassed because there were other people around when I tried to tell her what happened...All She said was "wow" and ignored me......NEVER AGAIN WILL WE GO BACK.....We ended up at Blintliff's this am and albeit a little pricey...it was top quality...We got what we paid for....An awesome breakfast....

Me and my girlfriend were there around 10 am on 6/18/15. We saw it driving by while looking for a place to eat breakfast and it just caught our eye since we like little diners. The coffee was very good and the raspberry amaretto french toast I ordered was very good and the breakfast sampler my gf ordered was very good as well. I did not like the bacon as I feel like it had no flavor. Our waitress also seemed like she was not in a good mood and didn't want to talk to us anymore then she had too. All in all if we are back in that area we will be going back.

Not a place that I would visit again. I had to park across the street, at the Lobster Pound (another bad experience). We were seated quickly, but that's where the service ended. It was 20 minutes before our order was taken. The food was mediocre breakfast fare. The price was crazy high. Cash only is always a headache when on vacation.

VERY ordinary -- I definitely wouldn't go back. The pancakes looked and tasted like they were made from a cheap mix, and the "blended" maple syrup was barely okay. Spend your time and money somewhere else.
