Coming up from the Boston area, I've had my fair share of VERY GOOD Sushi Restaurants, so I wasn't expecting much from Black Sushi. I Rolled the dice and SCORED!!! This place is TOP NOTCH. The Owner is always here, VERY hospitable, and friendly. The rice was the BEST rice I have EVER HAD....a must try. I'm will be a regular EVERY TIME I come up here.

The atmosphere is casual. The food is awesome and so is the service. If you like sushi, this place can't be beat.

We arrived as two couples for a dinner. The food was not impressive, it was over priced, the rice was over cooked and the seaweed skin was mediocre at best. This would all be forgivable other than the fact that the service was terrible. We will never go back.

Excellent, high-quality sushi done in creative but not flamboyant ways. I'm not usually a nigiri person, more of a maki person, but the scallop nigiri was incredible. The specialty maki were finely done. The restaurant is small and situated at the end of the main drag, so eating outside, which we did, was a little quieter. The inside ambience was contemporary and cool. Service was prompt. A not-tourist restaurant in a tourist town. What else can I say?

A sweet little restaurant that has just added a bar this year. I loved the byob but the bar really adds to the overall feel of the restaurant. Amazing Mango Madness crunchy tuna roll, raw oysters, trifecta salad, I could go on and on. WE LOVE BLACK! So glad Buzzy opened his restaurant in Ogunquit.

A great place to enjoy wonderful fresh fish that is caught and served close to the source. Warm hospitality and a lively atmosphere make this a great reprieve from the fried food and coleslaw associated with downeast style cooking. The owner and the chefs are very personable, and BYOB make it all a wonderful experience!!

The standout here is the Cali Roll with real crabmeat -- so, so much better than the fake stuff. It really was excellent. All the sushi we tried was good, though we were disappointed that they didn't have several of the selections on the menu (though I know that's the nature of the biz when dealing with fresh fish). Go if only for the cali roll -- it's worth it.

Very, very disappointing! Five of us went for dinner on Tuesday night. There was only one other party in the place and they arrived quite a bit after we did. Nice sized serving of okay miso soup. I think the sushi chef was calling Japan for step-by-step instruction. I have NEVER waited so long for sushi, EVER. After 45 minutes, when I went up to the chef to inquire about the holdup, he was crabby and unapologetic. Our waitress seemed to have misheard some of our drink and sushi order, so we had to wait even longer since she got Philadelphia maki and rainbow maki confused, somehow. The caterpillar maki was decent, although I have had better and prettier. The sake nigiri was good, too. My niece ordered Philadelphia maki, and when it finally came, it was bitter. She ate two pieces to be sure, then my son ate one piece to confirm the diagnosis. When we mentioned that it didn't taste good, they refused to take it off of the bill. Not the end of the world, but it would have been a gesture of good faith. We will never never never go back again. There are so many good restaurants in OGT, too bad this wasn't one of them.

I just ordered take out from here tonight - the house salad is to die for - it tastes sweet but also like it has wasabi in it. I also ordered the Philly Roll and Mango roll - both were very good. They give you only low sodium soy which I love. I did go in with my two children with the intent of getting takeout because it was 7:00 p.m. & I did not want to disrupt anyone's dinner. The owner (I think) looked horrified when I walked in with two small children - I quickly assured him I would wait outside - that is the only thing that put me off a bit about this place but food wise it was delicious.

Mango Madness Roll is to die for. Mango, Avocado, Asparagas, Spicy Tuna. Got it rolled in tempura.

This place is great! The staff is so friendly and takes pride in their sushi making. No artificial Crab meat here! Highly recommend the Lobster Roll x2 and the Spicy Tuna was the best we ever had!!! This restaurant is child friendly (not sure about the previous posters comment as our experience was the opposite). We highly recommend the Black Sushi House and will visit it again on our next trip to Ogunquit!

Average sushi. It's a one-man show. So don't be in a rush to get out. Good sized pieces of fish.

A mixed bag for us. We liked the house salad and the spicy tuna. Our experience went down hill from there though. We ordered some himachi sashimi that was served as a collection of frozen planks of fish. My wife has an avocado allergy, but I love the avo and asked for it on the side. The onean show who was both cooking and serving forgot it seems. Not cool to play with folks' food allergies. The capstone on our dismay was when another server or owner of the place came in with his newborn and proceeded to change the kid's diaper on one of the dining tables, throwing dirty diaper and soiled wet wipes over the sushi counter where raw fish was being prepped. Really?? I'm all for family establishments, but that's got to be against a few food service codes. Gross

We ate at Black Sushi House last night - it was our first time. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff. The sushi was as good as nearly any we've had in various cities. We ordered four specialty rolls - flaming, caterpillar, rainbow and mango madness, and one regular roll - spicy tuna. All of them were nicely prepared and presented. We also had the house salad, which was excellent. The restaurant is BYOB which is a plus in our opinion since you're not paying the restaurant markup. There's a small grocery store just a short walk down the street that sells chilled wine and beer. I would definitely eat there again.

My girlfriend and I wanted to go on a nice date night together and we found this place through reading reviews on several websites. We are sushi fans, and we usually like to explore new restaurants to see what they have to offer. The reviews looked good so we went ahead and tried it. We brought our own bottle of wine, and sat down inside. The waiter was pleasant, he seemed very enthusiastic. Rock music was blasting on the radio, so the place was definitely not setting the right atmosphere from the start. We placed our order for some appetizers and rolls. The place was fine, but I just wanted to share an honest opinion about the food. The appetizers were fine, nothing to rave about, just ok. When the sushi came out, it had already started to spread apart. The rolls were small, and the seaweed used was hard and the rice was clumpy. The spicy tuna roll tasted literally like, tuna, and hot sauce. The lobster meat inside one of the rolls was the best part of the dining experience. All the rolls were pretty bad. The waiter then came out and was pleasant, and said, "Not bad for a bunch of white guys." My girlfriend and I looked at each other and said mmmmmmhhhhmmmm. It was a bad experience, the worst (food wise) sushi experience for me and my girlfriend. I would advise for you and your date to save your 70 bucks, and got somewhere else when dining in Oqunquit until this place fixes all its flaws. I hope Black Sushi House improves and takes my comments into consideration.
