Fresh-cooked Gyros plates. Yum!! Saw 5-star Yelp! ratings and had to est here. I was not disappointed. Staff excellent. Service very fast. Serve food all through afternoon. Waiter recommended Gyros plate. Extremely tasty! Will come again. Oh, and save room for dessert, or stuff yourself. Because their Baklava is the best ever. House-make, using pistaccios, not walnuts, with the finest honey, and pistaccio crumbles on top. OMG!!

I went here for dinner with my wife while we were visiting Freeport. The food was absolutely delicious!! Between our appetizer sampler, breads, salads, soup, dinner we got to sample quite a variety of items on their menu. I was impressed every step of the way. They serve some tasty food. Our service was also great. The waitress was attentive, friendly and spot on.

We stopped by here for lunch while shopping in Freeport. I was with my mom and sister The food was great, the lentil soup and falafel sandwich was so good, we got a side of the yogurt sauce to dip it in. The spanikopita was delicious too, very large portion. The service was average. The dining room was cold but it was January so we had hot tea which helped. I would definitely come here again for lunch.

The tiropita is to die for. And the chicken kofte is wonderful. Everything here is fresh and light - even the sides (the carrot salad goes great with kofte). They also have a truly unique and delicious tiramisu. Great restaurant definitely worth visiting in Freeport!

Never expected to find a Mediterranean restaurant in Maine, but I did and I couldn't be happier. It's apparently owned by some Turkish brothers, and they know what they're doing. I had the Doner lunch entrée (which is Turkish for schwarma) and it was the best I've had stateside. If you're in Freeport shopping at the giant L.L. Bean store, you need to stop here and have lunch/dinner.

When I am not hauling my cousin, Erin M. (see review below) out of snowbanks in Providence after she's consumed too many jello shots out of giant plastic syringes, or rescuing her from booty dancing with brahs in shady dance clubs in Lewiston, I also enjoy a low key meal at a restaurant that I would never expect to find in tourist-ridden Freeport, Maine. I was pleasantly surprised to find Mediterranean grill nestled a bit away from the main drag in this lil' town of LL Bean fame. Fun fact: I actually lived in Freeport for my first year of college. Fun fact #2: I have never heard of Mediterranean Grill - I don't know how long it's been here, but since many people seem to know about it, my guess is that it's been around for a while (perhaps not in 2001-02 when I lived there, but it seems rather established). Good to know; wish I'd known earlier. It's such a nice change from all the overpriced b.s. chowder houses and "ye olde pub" type places in so many of Maine's touristy coastal towns. My mom, bless her heart, didn't know what a mojito was (she called it a mo-ji-to, and please pronounce the J in english when you say that), and also claims that people in Maine call gyros "jiros" (you know what I'm saying, right? yikes). So, we rectified these Maine missteps by ordering her a 10 cane mojito and a gyro dish. I tried her "jiro" meat, and it was very good - not the best ever, but very good. The mo-ji-tos were actually the best I have ever had. They come with a piece of sugar cane in them, and while too sweet for me to order another or make it my regular drink, it was obvious that the cocktail was crafted with love and quality ingredients. I definitely recommend it. I had the chicken kofte, which was excellent as well, though I'm still not sure about the vegetables which came with the meal. I can't figure out if the green beans were canned or not, but I sort of think so. This isn't a problem for me, I actually enjoy canned green beans - one of the few acceptable canned vegetables imho - but I'm not so sure that they belong on a plate with a meal of this calibre. Some fresh haricots vert would have impressed me more. The service was, as others have noted, just okay. Apparently our server was the only person working the whole establishment - it was about 230pm on a Saturday - and she sort of forgot about us after a while. I should have stuck to my initial inclination and sat in the busy-ish bar area, though, so I don't exactly blame her... toward the end of our meal, we were the only people in the dining room. Freeport and the Old Port were both creepily quiet today, and I couldn't figure out why. Anyway, I would definitely come back here, and for Maine, this place is excellent. I love that there are finally more options in Freeport other than chowder and McDonald's. And yes, there are tons of gluten-free options here for you allergic and/or neurotic types. Personally, I would have ordered myself Shipyard ale had that mo-ji-to not caught my eye. :D

We stopped in for a late dinner - we should have keep driving to a place that wanted to be in the restaurant business. The salad looked like they should have thrown the lettuce into the garbage 2-days ago. The beef shish kabob had good taste, that was the highlight of the meal. My wife had the salmon & shrimp with rice - - - all of which was just average. I could not believe the poor service: slow, stupid and lazy. How can you serve ice water with no ice? The salad dish was still sitting on the table when we left. No one asked if our meal was OK. Really? Close the doors and go to work at L L Bean where you can learn from the best.

Very pedestrian fare in a somewhat depressing atmosphere. We came here on a Friday evening 6-ish for drinks and dinner with three people. The Margarita was ample but that was the highlight. My Doner Gyro was bland, lukewarm and pretty unappetizingly presented. The spanikopita was okay but for $145 for three people the whole meal was a pretty big disappointment. There are better places to have dinner in Freeport.

This year I turned 29 and was looking to have a nice, low-key birthday for once in my life. Shopping in Freeport all day sounded like a perfect way to avoid taking jello shots out of giant plastic syringes and booty dancing with strange men. Every single time we go to Freeport we eat at Azure and it is always fantastic, but with my latest and most exciting food allergy: dairy, it was going to be impossible to find anything to eat on the menu. So this time we mixed it up a little and wandered into Mediterranean grill, which was recommended by my Aunt several times with serious enthusiasm. The food was excellent and the chef ensured that I got a hearty and wonderful tasting meal despite my plethora of annoying food allergies. He came out to our table and worked out a meal for me sans gluten, eggs, or dairy. I ended up with some awesomely spiced meatballs (with GF breadcrumbs) on a bed of white bean salad. I loved the contrast between the cold white beans and olive oil against the rich flavor of the warm meat. The dolma appetizers were the best I've ever had. Sometimes dolmas are too oily and these were much meatier. The grapefruit martini was refreshing, as was the mojito, which came with a sugarcane in it. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and look forward to making lunch there a new tradition.

What a fantastic little restaurant in downtown Freeport! After finding on Yelp, I decided to stop in - plus hummus and grape leaves are 2 of my favorite foods. The food was fantastic - I had a glass of sangria, red lentil soup and the appetizer platter which had hummus, grape leaves, falafal and baba gonouche (spelling?). The waiter/bartender was very attentive and knew a lot about the menu, etc. I will be coming back soon!!!

  • Tammy S.

The food and service are both great. Some things threw me for a loop... like the fact that they put yogurt in their hummus, a typically safe thing for a vegan to order but their falafel is really good as are their salads. I have gone there with several non-veg friends and they really like it as well. One of my favorite things to get is their hot tea. What a welcome change from the typical, predictable restaurants in Freeport.

While shopping with friends, we stumbled across this restaraunt... the food was to DIE for. Service was unremarkable but the quality of food is the best! After a day of shopping and running around the Outlets, return here for some R&R and great dinner. Gluten-free-friendly!

This place is O.K. When I went last weekend I ordered the lamb shish and my friend had the chicken sorma. The lamb was nicely seasoned and pretty tender. However, the sorma was DRY and the veggies were mediocre. Mediterranean grill is edible and there are not many turkish restos nearby but it's not great food.

If i could give this place 0 stars I would. My boyfriend and I went here just last night. I should say up front that I've never had the desire to post a Yelp review, but this place was just so awful I feel obligated to steer others away from this unpleasant and costly experience. First, when we entered the restaurant we were "greeted" by a really unfriendly woman who looked me up and down as if to say I didn't belong there. And then almost with a smirk asked if we'd like a table for 2. I had on normal college-student attire...so I'm not really sure what her problem was...but as the evening went on it became clear whatever her problem was had nothing to do with me-she was just an unfriendly, rude person. It took forever for someone to come and take our order. Then, getting water was another 15 minute wait. Then when we finally got our appetizer (don't remember the name exactly, but some sort of mezze sample starter plate) I grabbed a stuffed grape leaf, and spit it out. All of the food on that platter was inedible-good thing they brought a basket of bread because that's what we ate. We considered leaving after that, but decided to give the meal a chance. My boyfriend ordered the Doner/Gyro-lamb with potatoes, and I ordered the chicken kebab with rice and veggies. When my plate came it had 4 little lumps of chicken on it drenched in oil, the rice was saturated with what tasted like movie-popcorn butter, and the vegetables were limp and soggy. My boyfriend's shaved lamb was likewise soaked in oil and his potatoes were cold and looked like they came out of the frozen food section. We each took 2 bites and asked for the check. The nasty waitress brought us the check and it was over $60! We both know that freeport can be an expensive town, but for a basket of bread, two bites of salty, oily food, and dealing with a nasty attitude, it really wasn't worth it at all. PLEASE DONT GO HERE AND EXPECT A NICE EVENING OR A GOOD MEAL! Wost experience I've ever had at a restaurant, period.

This place is right tasty with a decent beer selection...something not easily found in the immediate Freeport area. I've been here several times, and I am always satisfied with both the quality and amount of food for the price. I've had the lamb meatballs, the stuffed chicken breast and a couple of the vegetarian dishes, all of which are very good. As for the appetizers, I've tried the falafel and the hummus, both very good as well. The service has always been welcoming and attentive to the tables needs, and they have a nice outdoor patio with tiki torches, which is nice to sit in during the summer months. If I had to change one thing it would be the salad that accompanies most meals. The iceberg lettuce is not the freshest, and that has also been consistent. Regardless of the one downfall, i'd recommend this restaurant over most other establishments in the Freeport area at the same price point. The food, the service and the price are better than most in the area.

We stopped here on our way up to a lake vacation with family. It was nice looking, with great porch seating on a beautiful summer day. The meal was average, not very plentiful or tasty. I have had much better Mediterranean food. The worst part of the meal was the service. Not one smile from anyone that we encountered. Our waitress was not friendly, which is odd in Maine during the height of tourist season. I do not mind that she was not chatting it up but she was miserable, practically scowling and very short with answers about anything. The waitress working next to her was also seemingly unhappy. It made for an unpleasant experience. Very unfortunate. I would not recommend this place for either food or service

This place was surprisingly awesome. Stopped in on a whim while strolling through Freeport and SO happy we did! Tried a number of things from the menu, and all were delish. The hummus was terrific - spiced perfectly and served with more than enough pita (which is rare, I find, with most Mediterranean places.) I'm also a huge fan of their falafel - perfect amount of bite, not greasy, delicate seasoning. The spanakopita and pastitsio were amazing. My experience with spanakopita had previously been limited to a frozen favorite from the Trader Joe's freezer, so the bar was low, but wow - fresh is the way to go! TJ's version is ruined forever for me now. The pastitsio was perfect - dense and packed and covered in just the right amount of sauce... not drowning in it, but enough so every bite was the same. My absolute favorite thing here was the blueberry baklava. Being in Maine and all - and LOVING blueberries - this seemed like a no-brainer. I took many pics... because impressed. Oh, and the Turkish coffee... PERFECTION.

Just awesome!!! We were very happy with our meals again. Every entree for our party was fresh, healthy and delicious. A great place for gluten free dinners. Every item is clearly marked gluten free. The home made baklava is the best. We had the classic which made with pistachios and the wild Maine blueberry flavor. Great out door elevated deck, a must try out this gem!!!

This is our new favorite restaurant in Freeport. White bean and garden salads were delicious. Chicken and Beef Kah bob dishes were perfectly cooked and spiced. Home made sangria was very tasty. Loved everything about this restaurant. Service was exceptional. Highly recommend this restaurant.

  • Bill M.

Not pleasant at all, in fact, terrible. Service was extremely slow and when she did come to our table she didn't even ask us what we wanted to drink. She seemed overwhelmed with the total of 6 people she was waiting on. Didn't ask how we would like our meat cooked, didn't come back at any point during our meal and ask how things were. Seriously, stay away from this place. The food sucked too. Small portions as well. I would give a no star if I could, worst place I have been to in a very long time.

Best Greek food we've had outside Greece. Not gimmicky or pretentious like some of the other restaurants in the area. Would be going back often if we lived here.

The falafel was the best! The stuffed grape leaves had a different cinnamon flavor but tasted delicious! Everything was light and fresh. Service was friendly and fast. Location was convenient and lots of parking.

All i have to say is A-MAY-ZING!!! the pastitio and the salmon are to die for. We were the only ones at the restaurant but we were greeted very well. The food felt like home. I'm not a fan of veggies or salmon but this place just changed that for me. If you're reading this then get up out of your seat and march on over

I did not have a good experience at this restaurant. We picked the Mediterranean Grill to go to lunch on a weekend afternoon where freeport was fairly busy. Almost all the patios of every restaurant were fairly busy however this entire restaurant was empty. We just assumed this was because it was at the end of all the shops and down a side road. We got there and were seated right away by a very nice waiter outside and this is when we noticed we were the only ones there at lunch time. Our waiter put down a couple glasses and gave us the lunch menu and drink menu and walked away to get a pitcher of water. First thing I noticed when I looked at the glass was this nice big lipstick stain on the side. When we let the waiter know he changed out the glass for us. But I refused to drink the water for the rest of the meal. We ordered a hummus plate for the appetizer and the hummus was average and the pita bread was below average. I highly doubt that they make their own hummus or pita bread but I am not sure, just a hunch. I got the chicken kabob lunch entree which came with three pieces of chicken, a spoonful of plain white rice with chickpeas, home fries, and one slice of tomato and a slice of cucumber. Pretty small portion but it did not bother me as much as the taste did. The chicken was extremely chewy and barely had any spice. Honestly, it was some of the worst chicken I've eaten at any restaurant and I only ate one piece and did not eat the rest of my meal. I had a few homefries but there was something either wrong with the oil they use or the potatoes. The rice was average and it may have been the only time I have never finished a meal at a restaurant. As we finished our meal we were paying the bill and were about to leave but couldn't because there was a guy who shut the door and started to make repairs on it. This was the only door off the patio so after we payed the bill we had to wait for a little to get out. We didn't wait that long but it was not appropriate to do during a busy day in freeport during lunch. The only things that merit one star was that we had a good waiter and they had a good beer list and drink menu.

Where to start? Entered at 2:00 on Sunday for late lunch. Empty. Seated outside, fine as it was a nice day. Waited for server...about 10 minutes. Waited for water and a lemonade...about 5 minutes...finally gave our order...ordered beef shish kabob sandwich and my wife ordered chicken kofte platter. We waited over 30 minutes, no water refills or anyone checking in...ironic for a nearly empty restaurant. Lunch arrived and was unremarkable in flavor, freshness and presentation. My beef was chewy and under seasoned, smothered in red onion and tomato slices in a greasy pita ( not homemade by any stretch) and had a side of potato chunks, fried and covered in black pepper. My wife had three way over poked discs of bland, pathetically bland ground chicken coupled with a small scoop of greasy rice and four (literally) pieces of grilled vegetable. Honestly it was laughable. Don't waste your money, it was pricey for what it was or your TIME...we will not be back!!!

Bad experience....Food portions were almost non-existent.....This restaurant has raised their prices, but lowered both the quality and quantity of their food..I do not recommend dining here....You will be extremely disappointed....

A Turkish friend brought a group of us here once because she wanted us to get a taste of authentic Turkish food and this was the closest she could get to that in the vicinity of Brunswick, Maine. I, at the time, was quite unadventurous and got shrimp kabobs, rice and baba ghanoujh (sp?) appetizer. The baba ghanoush was some of the best I have had, and I still remember it pretty clearly a couple years later. Definitely recommend that. They had a bunch of smaller plates that many at the table split, but they largely ordered vegetable-based dishes that I did not want to try. The falafal was a hit with the others, and several of teh vegetable dishes came doused with cheese. At the end, they brought out authentic Turkish coffee and our friend showed us how to flip the cup over and "read" the coffee drippings that remained like a fortune. That was interesting/cool. Turkish coffee is very thick and is kind of an acquired taste I would say at the same time. This was a good introduction to middle eastern food for me, although I have gone on and discovered places that are better. But this is Maine, and you cannot expect to have tons of authentic Turkish places around. I definitely enjoyed my time here and view it as one of the better restaurants in Freeport.

This is one of our favorite spots in Freeport. We eat here twice a year and are never disappointed. The service is very good, the brothers that own it are as nice as they can be, and the Turkish wine is absolutely yummy! I have no idea what these one star reviews are all about....but hey! More for me!

  • Patsy C.

We won't be going back. They were out of almost everything on the menu, including beers on tap, and over half of the things our party of five ordered, to the point it was really ridiculous. They would have been better off just closing the restaurant. This was particularly odd since I had specifically asked if they were out of anything when we were looking over the menu. Beware, almost everything on the menu has cheese or yogurt in it; if anyone in your party cannot eat dairy, try someplace else. One person in our group ordered soup and a salad for her "entrée" and the waitress brought it out 10 minutes before the rest of our meals. I could go on, but I'll just say for meals in this price range (entrees were $17-$25 for the most part) we expected a better dining experience. One thing I will give them--the moussaka was delicious.

A bunch of us were shopping and decided to grab a late lunch/early dinner on a Sunday afternoon. I whipped out my phone and looked at the nearby restaurants on yelp. We ended up at Mediterranean Grill. It was a good choice! Once you step in, you see the bar area. There were a few locals watching a Celtics game. There is a pretty spacious dining area that is away from the bar area. The server wasn't super friendly but wasn't that bad. Another review commented that the waitress did not smile. It wasn't a big deal. She joked around with us and also gave us recommendations. She was attentive throughout our dinner. The bread and dipping sauce was tasty. For an appetizer, we ordered the mixed appetizer platter. It was a combination of of cold and heated food. I wasn't a huge fan of the stuffed grape leaves. The "egg rolls" were ok. Someone in our group described it as tasting like crab rangoons. Two of us got the Tiropita in mushroom sauce. It seemed like the most interesting thing on the menu. It was very filling, tasty and really good! I'd definitely eat here again when I am in the area. Good food, decent prices. The patio seems like a great place to eat and people watch during the warmer months.

  • Sue S.

Went on 4/18/15. The restaurant is large and there were only a few tables occupied so the ambience was a little lacking but there were 6 of us so it didn't matter. The waitress made some suggestions on dishes and she was spot on - we all really enjoyed our meals. We thought the prices were a bit on the high end but all-in-all, we will definitely go back to try some of the other dishes we were torn between choosing. Most of the party had gone to Greece a few times on vacation so we were happy to find a Mediterranean restaurant close by....only "complaint" was that they don't offer tzatsiki.

This was our first time eating here and it won't be our last. The service was great and the food was outstanding, from the appetizers through dessert. Also, we can't say enough about the chef/owner who was extremely personable and a pleasure to speak with. Quite simply, it was a truly enjoyable dining experience. Oh yes, be sure to try the Turkish wine.

Had lunch with family out on the deck. I had an excellent chicken kebab sandwich while the others both had the doner/gyro sandwich, which they gave glowing reviews to. This will be a must return next time back in Freeport.

My husband and I stopped here around 4:00 for an early dinner on our way from Central Maine to Portland. I had looked online for restaurants that had food that was both vegetarian and gluten free. I always look ahead since it can be difficult to find. I saw a number of dishes on the online menu and thought that this would be a good place to try. When we arrived, the menu that we were given had none of the main dishes that had been on the online menu so we asked if there would be anything for us to eat. We are always open to any reasonable options. The waitress said that there was nothing at all available. As we were leaving the very empty restaurant, she wished us luck in finding food elsewhere. We had a lovely meal in Portland. We will never be back.

I stopped here because this restaurant is off the beaten path and isn't touristy. The restaurant has a really nice bar inside as well as lovely outdoor seating. The food is very fresh and the portions are small. My chicken came with basmati rice and a very flavorful carrot salad. The service was fast and friendly. The menu is a bit limited which is why I'm only giving three stars.

  • Wendy D.

I love this place! I enjoyed stuffed grape leaves for an appetizer and had the salmon for lunch. Their menu shows many gluten free options with a special mark and the waitress was very helpful in changing out the rice which had butter in it, for the fried potatoes in olive oil. I was really hungry and ate everything, even though there was a lot of food for a salmon lunch.

I brought my mother here for Mother's Day lunch. We were going to go to azure, however, it was an hour wait. This place is less than a block away. We walked in and it was empty. I was worried that it wouldn't be any good. We decided to give it a chance. I ordered a mojito and my mother a blood orange Cosmo. Both were good. For lunch I got the beef cabob and my mother got salmon. Both were very good. The beef was a tad overcooked but still very tender. The service and good were both very good. I knocked a star off because the portions are small. I would go back again.

After a long morning of shopping in Freeport, hunger began to take over. We originally stopped here because of the out door seating. It was a beautiful day in Maine and we wanted to eat outside. This place has a great upper outside patio for sitting. It has a nice view of the street and is great if you're looking to eat al fresco. I got the chicken kabob sandwich and it was good...nothing fancy but definitely a tasty lunch. It came with a side of potatoes which could have been cooked and roasted a little longer with some tastier seasonings. I am a potato junkie...I'll eat them in any way but these potatoes didn't make the cut (haha no pun here) All in all it was a nice quick lunch spot.

Mediocre food, overpriced. Fine if it were a street food cart. One upside: nice art and ambiance.

Stopped in for a quick lunch. I had the Gyro. I love Gyro's and always tell the worth of good Mediterranian food by the quality of their Gyro. This was good and used real lamb as well as beef. My only complaint was the blandness of the yogurt sauce. I prefer mine a little more tangy. Nicely decorated place that I would not hesitate to go to again. Service was great.

Looking for a place to eat on a Friday night, we decided to go to the Mediterranean Grill based on fantastic reviews on Yelp. It was pretty quiet on Friday at 6:30 and were seated immediately. It's a cool layout, nice bar area and large dining room with high ceilings. We skipped drinks, even though I read good reviews about the mojito, so can't attest to that. We started with the hummus appetizer, it was good. Came with a small loaf of bread. We quickly ran out of bread with tons of hummus left over. Towards the end we were scooping up big piles of hummus because we were running out of bread. Then later the waitress gave us another loaf so turns out we didn't have to do that....We were hoping for some crackers or pita bread or something. So, appetizer was good, hummus was creamy, bread was good, but dinner is where we were really disappointed. I can't remember the exact name of what the husband ordered, I want to say Tiropita, but I think I'm missing a syllable. It was a phyllo dough pastry filled with cheese, beef/lamb, and a mushroom sauce on top. It sounded delish, but unfortunately wasn't that great. It was a huge brick-like concoction with what looked like a can of campbells soup just downed on top. The middle was cold. He ate half then left the rest. I had the lamb/beef gyro plate. The meat didn't seem fresh, was like jerky, as it was prepared much earlier and had been sitting out. The side of potatoes were yummy, like hash browns. I ate that and left the meat. I was really excited and wanted to like this place since we're local, but just didn't hit the mark for us, especially at close to $20 a plate. Maybe Mediterranean just isn't our thing.

Wonderful! My family and I went before walking around Freeport and were looking for a good lunch place that had gluten free options. Yelp lead us to this delicious Mediterranean restaurant. We started the table off with the mixed appetizer platter. The humus was great and I also like the deep fried fetta thing. I then had pastini ( definitely spelled wrong) which is almost like lasagna but better. Others had lentil soup, falafel, chicken sandwich thing, and chicken and beef kofte. Everyone was satisfied! Plenty of Gluten free options and good service. Strongly recommend checking it out!

Service is friendly and very knowledgeable. The meat is delicious and served piping hot. Veggies a but mushy, but thats the only flaw. I'll come here again for sure!

I'm not sure the Mediterranean would make the top of a "best of" list anywhere else, but maybe there isn't much competition in Freeport. I will say that it is a good spot for lunch and doesn't feel touristy. The hummus appetizer was tasty and chicken kofte sandwich, served on a warm pita was very good. The service was unhurried and pleasant and we found sitting outside on the deck to be a relaxing break from shopping.

The high and refined cuisine of Turkey is evident in every dish every time I take guests to this gem. If you are in Freeport, add The Mediterranean Grill to you list of must does. You will be delighted.

Order a chicken salad - it was made with iceberg lettuce (not my fav) and the dressing was bland and unimperssive. The portion of chicken was skimpy to say the least. Appetizer sampler was really good though. Drinks were overpriced and service was a bit slow. Not a great bang-for-your-buck spot.

It was a perfect place for our vegetarian granddaughter. She had the pastitio which overflowed the plate. The moussaka and salads were also quite tasty. The stuffed grape leaves we're a disappointment, far too much cinnamon for our taste. The lamb/vegetable soup was a little weak. All in all, a nice experience.

Loved having access to Yelp when we were in Freeport...places that looked nice had bad reviews and places you might not even find had great reviews. Well, Mediterranean Grill falls into the latter category. Delicious food with great atmosphere, outdoor seating and very reasonable prices. Loved it.

What a pleasant surprise! You would never expect such a sophisticated taste experience in a super-commercial place like Freeport, but just around the bend lies the Mediterranean Grill. Absolutely delicious Baba and White bean salad (though a bit skimpy on the portions). Lentil soup was more pureed and smooth than I'm used to, but wonderful flavors as well. It's been a little while, but if I remember correctly, I had the Chicken Kofte and again, was delighted by the tender and savory experience. Yum!

We had such high expectations due to the other Yelp reviews, we should have expected our outcome to be less than five star. While the cocktails were decent and the hummus quite good, our entrees were served with cold, yes not warm, sides of rice and vegetables. we asked for them to be replaced for both of us, but they initially only brought one serving of each so we had to ask for more and by the time we got a clean plate and the hot sides our main course had cooled as well. Plus, they were all out of the signature dessert we went for, baklava. I believe we should have been given some accommodation on the bill or offered another free dessert or something. It was as if it didnt matter to our server that we had a problem. Unfortunately we had an experience which will not warrant a return.

We tried out this restaurant based on all the positive reviews. The food did not disappoint. The service was another story. Our waitress did not smile once and was not very helpful when asked about the menu. We would probably check out other places in the area before we went back.

Everything we tried -- cold app platter, lamb, ground chicken -- very good. Service also very good. Great break from (delicious) Maine seafood, steak or pizza. Nice atmosphere too. Reasonably priced.

We were here last night and had a very enjoyable experience. Our waitress was fun and personable, and sat us immediately. We ordered some drinks (key lime martini, another delicious one the name of which I can't remember: vodka, cointreau, blue curacao) and a bunch of appetizers to share. The appetizer plate is very good: Hummus, falafel, carrot salad, cheese in phyllo dough, white bean salad. We also split the Mediterranean salad and baba ganoush. The salad was very well balanced and flavorful, while the baba ganoush was delicious on crisp pita bread. It was the perfect amount of food for two people (well, for two 120-something pound females anyway). Definitely check this place out if you are in the Freeport area!

I had such high hopes for this restaurant from all the reviews on yelp. I grew up in the middle east and so have a spot in my heart for good mediterranean food. I couldn't have been more disappointed with this restaurant. 1. They weren't accommodating at all to the fact I was lactose intolerant. All their meat is marinated in yogurt for a day and so my choice on the menu was literally between two or three dishes. 2. The dish I ended up getting, was so incredibly greasy, I spent the entire evening and night awake wondering if I'll ever stop feeling sick. The veggies, the lamb, even the rice were saturated in oil! I don't think I've ever seen a dish that greasy before. All in all, as much as I want to, I can't possibly recommend this restaurant to anyone if they really want good mediterranean food.

We had a great late lunch here on the outdoor deck. Ate the mixed appetizer platter, which was delicious - especially the carrot salad, falafel, and grape leaves. The best part was allagash white on tap for $4!

If you have already had your obligatory lobster during your stay in Maine I would definitely recommend this place. I was not expecting to find a mediterranean place in Maine but I did and was very please i did. I had the shrimp kabob and salmon filet. It came with four shrimp and the salmon was a generous portion. The only complaint I could come up with as far as the food goes was that the "mixed vegetables" were 95% green beans and not as firm as I would have liked. The atmosphere is great although it was a little slow that night and I could hear almost everyone elses conversations. The server was not very chatty but quite attentive. The prices were also reasonable.

I haven't been able to find a more delicious moussaka since coming to this place! The owners are very friendly and both indoor and outdoor seating when it's nice out is just beautiful!

This place is AMAZING. I couldn't believe how delicious this was. It rivaled the meals I had in actual Greece! The mediterranean salad is to die for, with a delicious unique salad dressing that was very light and I think they should bottle this stuff and sell it. For dinner I had vegetable mousakka (not positive on the spelling) and it was so rich, creamy and delicious. Vegetable Mousakka is kind of like a red-sauceless, noodleless, vegetable lasagna with a creamy sauce. My husband got chicken meatballs and those were seasoned to perfection and fabulous too. This place was such a pleasant surprize, and probably the only reason why I'd make a trip back to Freeport. The atmosphere is very nice, open, clean and romantic. It was very quiet when I was there, but I went in the late fall. I am sure it gets packed over the summer. The prices are moderate, I believe my husband and I spent about $50 or $60 for the two of us (no beverages besides water, no desert). However it was more than worth it. I can't think of better Mediterranean food I've had. The service was good also, and our waitress was attentive and helpful.

This place is the best restaurant I've found in Maine and probably the best Turkish restaurant I've ever dined at. I had a Doner Kebab sandwich (not sure if that's what it was called, but that's essentially what it was)-- it was incredible. The bread they served it on was great and quite different from anything I had before, meat and sauce both top-notch. Also had some grape leaves, which were quite unique-- they made them with red currants. Finally I tried some lentil soup. I'm not a big fan of lentil soup-- it makes me feel like a stinky hippie to eat it. But this was some of the best soup I've ever had. Salads were quite good as well. Service was friendly and the decor was nice as well. I highly recommend going if you ever find yourself in the area.

My husband and I have eaten here twice, in May 2009 and last week. Both times our meals were excellent and the service friendly and prompt but not pushy. The server was able to answer our questions about the entrees. We ate inside due to the cool weather. We now live in Freeport and are always looking out for good ethnic restaurants, which we used to have everywhere in the metro area where we used to live, so we are happy that this restaurant is nearby.

  • Peter H.

OMG!!

The service was unhurried and pleasant and we found sitting outside on the deck to be a relaxing break from shopping.

a cute Mediterranean restaurant in the outlet. (i guess that's an outlet) i order an falafel entree. it was very tasty ! also the beef and lamb i forget the name of it is also pretty good! by the way, free port is such a cute little town!

This is not a place I would return to, but the food was not terrible. It was also not very clean.

Went there for dinner last Saturday night - everything was fantastic - very authentic and the staff / service was great. If you enjoy a great meal followed with a little ouzo and Turkish coffee, i'd strongly recommend it.
