Great food.... great service....some of the best food in town. Love the tofu fajitas and the falafel tapas. My husband is hooked on the duck burgers and seafood platter. But you can't beat their happy hour from 3-6pm...half-off beers and cocktails. A great place to finish a day at the beach...or any day for that matter!

Great Pizza and Beer selection......Mai Tais were good as well
Flatbread pizza in Maui. That's all I needed to hear to give it a try, and I wasn't disappointed. Not only was the hand-tossed pizza great, but I was surprised to find out they're very organic minded, even offering a cheeseless vegan pizza as well as a goat cheese one. Not bad for a tiny historic town. An excellent bar with a nice cocktail and beer list sealed the deal.
Best pizza I have ever eaten. Really, it's that good. Stop what you are doing and go right now.

Rating based on experience/service not food: I'm sure this place is good...was very excited to try it... Came at 11, told "5-10 mins we will open wer'e running late".. Ok no prob (it's hawaiian time right?), our flight isn't until 3 anyways... 11:10 came back, "oh 5 more mins" ok no prob, still excited for food! 11:20 came back walked in w menu ready to order, "oh uh another 15 mins"... Hmmmm... Ok so I called earlier at 10:30 to check if you are open(not knowing they open at 11)... me - "hi are you open today?" someone answers - "oh ya come by were open!" ok cool... Not too mention we came 2 days earlier and they were closed for remodel. Nonetheless we ate at Mexican place next door cuz we didn't have another 30 mins to spare after waiting 30 mins past opening time. Sad guess it wasn't meant to be... Maybe they should keep their front door closed n not answer the phone next time when they're not ready to open...
So good I went there thrice in one week! You can get a plate of ahi sashimi for $15, as fresh and good as it gets! This is much cheaper than I've ever seen such a meal elsewhere. Mahi Mahi fish and chips was also excellent. Meat was perfect. Given the chance to go back to Maui, this will be my first stop for food!
This is a real casual place for a quick bit before heading to the beach & it's really delicious! Just tried it once on a recent trip & I couldn't get over how fresh & delicious the fish burger was! I had the ono burger, it was grilled perfectly & covered lightly with tarter, cheese & tomato. It was SO delicious! The side of slaw was great too, very fresh. I wish I was there now!

Loved it! Comfortable, well-located, and affordable place to stay on the north side of Maui near Paia. This isn't a party scene or hotel...more like your friend's (super clean) house where you happen to be staying. Other guests were respectful/considerate types, late 20s to early 50s couples/etc, mostly folks who enjoyed a beverage or two on the porch at night but still got out the door nice and early for sunrise on the crater, etc. Haley (the innkeeper) made us feel at home, and the vibe was just right for those of us trying to escape the usual tourist traps. Highlights: -Clean, well-appointed rooms -Great "serve yourself" breakfast options (fruit, eggs, milk, etc)...fresh papaya was delicious -Mana Grocery (5 minutes away in Paia) is a world class grocery store. 70% local fruits and veggies? Yes please! Great options for preparing a big dinner back at the Inn or getting snacks on the go. -Hana Highway (incredible) is a right turn out the front door, and easy access to other sights (beaches, crater drive, mountain biking/hiking) -Lots of guidebooks and other resources in the library -Outdoor shower was awesome!
Hayley was the innkeeper during my stay. My first b&b experience and I was pleasantly surprised! Location - just outside of Paia. Traffic through there can get backed up a bit due to the 1 traffic light. Close to Ho'okipa which is good if you're a windsurfer. Pros - free wifi, there's a printer in-house, washer/dryer available, ironing board and iron available, DIY breakfast, free parking, outdoor showers available. Very eco-friendly place from what I could see. Cons - right on Hana Hwy so yeah there's some noise from that, floorboards are a bit creaky, walls thin-ish. Earplugs are offered for that. Misc - Quiet hours are 10pm-8am, Maui was pretty dead after 8pm anyways. All together I liked it. It was like staying at a friend's house!
Short version: Ants and fruit flies, make your own breakfast, no regular housekeeping in the room, kitchen trash/recycling was never taken out during a four-night stay, and the innkeeper was only accessible by phone. This isn't a Bed and Breakfast, it's a rental house with a poorly-stocked fridge. I don't know who "Julie" is in the earlier review that we fell for, but we dealt with "Maile". Or at least that's the name on the letter we found taped to the door when we arrived, along with a number to call if there were any problems. We're accustomed to talking with B&B innkeepers over breakfast, discussing what there is to do in town, stuff like that. What we aren't accustomed to (and had in the case of the Kuau Inn) are ants and fruit flies throughout the house, breakfasts that consist of serve-yourself store-bought muffins and a carton of eggs, and a room that doesn't lock from the outside. The previous occupant's "call me if you need anything" letter was still in our room when we got there, too, so that says a lot about the lack of housekeeping between guests. On the plus side, the place is pretty well situated close to Paia and between the two sides of the island, so you're only a short drive from great views and experiences. And the washer/dryer access came in handy, too. We won't be returning. This was the first stop of our honeymoon and we should have stuck with our first inclination to leave when we arrived at a dark, empty, dirty, and buggy house with a room that still had the previous occupant's paperwork, no A/C or fan, and no key for our room. At 0915 on the last morning, an alarm started ringing behind a locked door that had been unused for the duration of our stay, too. Do yourself a favor and avoid this mis-named rental house.

What!? Duck fajitas!? They were sooo good. Duck was tender and slightly sweet maybe caramelized - not sure but it was delish. Service was top notch.
I enjoy the atmosphere in this place. The servers are nice and the decor is very colorful and cheerful. They offer a large selection of items so it is easy to accommodate everybody's food preferences. I had a steak fajitas a few times. Each time it was good, but the quality of steak was not consistent. Sometimes the steak was very tender and flavorful and other times I could barely chew it. I also had their lamb dish and it was really good. Their coffee was not good at all.
A second trip to Maui, and a second trip to Cafe Mambo. Wonderful food, friendly staff with some incredible people watching. We returned for the kalua pork nachos and happy hour drinks after a long day see the sites. The nachos we delicious, and I can't wait to return home to try my hand at making a version for myself. The vibe here is perfect... attentive, but laid back.

As a solo, budget traveler, I was a last minute walk-in after my initial accommodations fell through and felt somewhat pressured to make a decision to ensure I had somewhere to stay. I was also enticed by the 'beachfront access'. The manager (David S.) took my credit card and NEVER mentioned ANY minimum stay or cancellation policy. After my one night stay, I tried to notify David the next morning that I would like to check out for various reasons: 1. The room I was booked in was on the Hana Highway with a lot of early morning traffic noise with the other side of room opening to the communal kitchen. It was a very small room and had no air flow. 2. The bed was so soft it felt like I was swimming in a bean bag the entire night. Reasons 1 & 2 = no sleep for the night. 3. The price of $125 per night was not justifiable or of any value for the experience I was having. 4. After being told that full breakfast items were provided, there was no fresh fruit or bacon - only coffee and eggs. 5. David wanted to move my room after the 1st night (without any warning or discussion with me), but after inspection of the room - even though it was bigger, it was the same scenario as above with even less air flow. At the same time I was requesting to check out, David informed me of the non-discussed move. I said I did not want to move and it would just be best to check out. He simply stated, "No, you have already been charged for 5 nights." Pretty much that's that and tried to walk away. I asked if we could talk about and resolve this now and he said he would "Be right back". He never came back or answered my several calls/texts all day where I inquired and tried to be logical, asking when was the soonest I could be granted a check-out. I had no way of knowing what was happening or if I was getting my money back so I left my one backpack there in the AM, thinking I would know shortly what was happening. At 6PM I tried to call again and was able to connect with his wife (Jency) who I had never met or spoken to. It appeared she was now taking over the situation and David refused to talk to me. Jency then told me I was booked for 5 nights and there was no cancellation policy. I said I had never been informed of this at check-in, nor had I fully agreed to 5 nights. She then said there was a 3 night minimum, again I was never told this at check-in. She referenced an incorrectly dated email that was sent to me hours after check-in that stated this policy -(which I never got because I was out hiking a mountain and not checking email because I was on vacation - DUH!!) and which still did not validate how I was NEVER told of any policies as a last minute walk-in at check-in. I asked her repeatedly why David did not tell me this at check-in or just disappeared and never responded or resolved the checkout situation that AM. She ignored and avoided discussing this AT ALL and just kept referencing the email (which actually noted a 2 night stay for the incorrect dates). I have never dealt with such an unprofessional, scamming, illogical accommodation in all my travels. They knew I had a rough 1st night in Maui, that I was not comfortable in their room and was a budget, solo traveler and plainly DID NOT CARE. They still SCAMMED me anyway and said I would be charged the full $600+ for staying only one night. After telling me I would be charged the 3 night min, Jency then threatened to put my belongings on the street...even though I had only stayed 1 night. At this point the phone conveniently cut out or went dead, and I had no desire to re-open the conversation. They never did credit me for the extra 2 nights (past the non-disclosed 3 night min) and I am in fact disputing all charges at this point in time. The fact they want to take advantage of a single female traveler who expressed discomfort and that the room was slightly over my budget to begin with and COULD CARE LESS about my experience shows their true nature. The fact that he would JUST DISAPPEAR when trying to logically discuss the issue and then have another person MANAGE the situation is also super unprofessional. There are other Trip Advisor reviews mirroring the same aspects (SEE golding73 and CindyK reviews) as well as if you Google "David & Jency Snyder" there are other reported complaints of scamming against them.... WOW. The real clincher is that after contacting the Maui County Planning Department, this is an illegal, non-permitted Bed & Breakfast. They are NOT PERMITTED to have guests. They have a FAKE NOTICE sign on their property saying they are in the application process -but NO APPLICATION has been filed per the Maui County Planning Department as of 6/19/15. Something needs to be done about people that operate in this manner!!
Our first stay in Paia, first at Blue Tile, too... absolutely the best experience! Outstaning location, plenty of quiet beach time, clean house, stocked kitchen, and best of all, great hospitality. Thank you for having us, we'll be back asap!
We were just informed on 8/12/2015 that our pre-existing reservation was cancelled for 10/18-11/8. Would help us find another hotel and discount. This is totally unacceptable and could have ruined our plans except for our friends benevolent offer to stay with them. We should have been compensated. Flight is booked and rental car. This place is great! Amazing food, descent prices and incredible menu! Happy Hour menu is incredible!!!
We never come to Maui without eating breakfast at Charley's. If you are planning a trip down the road to Hana, stop off here and load up on a yummy breakfast. If you get the pancake (and I say pancake as they are as large as man hole covers) you won't be disappointed. My last visit I tried the classic loco moco and it knocked me off my feet. Fabulous! The staff is always friendly and the food preparation was super quick. One day, I'll come in for a drink in the saloon and hopefully sit down next to Willie Nelson.
Best breakfast on the island!!! All of the food and drink were delicious. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff is helpful and kind. Be sure to have the potatoes with your meal, they are amazing!
