As a solo, budget traveler, I was a last minute walk-in after my initial accommodations fell through and felt somewhat pressured to make a decision to ensure I had somewhere to stay. I was also enticed by the 'beachfront access'. The manager (David S.) took my credit card and NEVER mentioned ANY minimum stay or cancellation policy. After my one night stay, I tried to notify David the next morning that I would like to check out for various reasons: 1. The room I was booked in was on the Hana Highway with a lot of early morning traffic noise with the other side of room opening to the communal kitchen. It was a very small room and had no air flow. 2. The bed was so soft it felt like I was swimming in a bean bag the entire night. Reasons 1 & 2 = no sleep for the night. 3. The price of $125 per night was not justifiable or of any value for the experience I was having. 4. After being told that full breakfast items were provided, there was no fresh fruit or bacon - only coffee and eggs. 5. David wanted to move my room after the 1st night (without any warning or discussion with me), but after inspection of the room - even though it was bigger, it was the same scenario as above with even less air flow. At the same time I was requesting to check out, David informed me of the non-discussed move. I said I did not want to move and it would just be best to check out. He simply stated, "No, you have already been charged for 5 nights." Pretty much that's that and tried to walk away. I asked if we could talk about and resolve this now and he said he would "Be right back". He never came back or answered my several calls/texts all day where I inquired and tried to be logical, asking when was the soonest I could be granted a check-out. I had no way of knowing what was happening or if I was getting my money back so I left my one backpack there in the AM, thinking I would know shortly what was happening. At 6PM I tried to call again and was able to connect with his wife (Jency) who I had never met or spoken to. It appeared she was now taking over the situation and David refused to talk to me. Jency then told me I was booked for 5 nights and there was no cancellation policy. I said I had never been informed of this at check-in, nor had I fully agreed to 5 nights. She then said there was a 3 night minimum, again I was never told this at check-in. She referenced an incorrectly dated email that was sent to me hours after check-in that stated this policy -(which I never got because I was out hiking a mountain and not checking email because I was on vacation - DUH!!) and which still did not validate how I was NEVER told of any policies as a last minute walk-in at check-in. I asked her repeatedly why David did not tell me this at check-in or just disappeared and never responded or resolved the checkout situation that AM. She ignored and avoided discussing this AT ALL and just kept referencing the email (which actually noted a 2 night stay for the incorrect dates). I have never dealt with such an unprofessional, scamming, illogical accommodation in all my travels. They knew I had a rough 1st night in Maui, that I was not comfortable in their room and was a budget, solo traveler and plainly DID NOT CARE. They still SCAMMED me anyway and said I would be charged the full $600+ for staying only one night. After telling me I would be charged the 3 night min, Jency then threatened to put my belongings on the street...even though I had only stayed 1 night. At this point the phone conveniently cut out or went dead, and I had no desire to re-open the conversation. They never did credit me for the extra 2 nights (past the non-disclosed 3 night min) and I am in fact disputing all charges at this point in time. The fact they want to take advantage of a single female traveler who expressed discomfort and that the room was slightly over my budget to begin with and COULD CARE LESS about my experience shows their true nature. The fact that he would JUST DISAPPEAR when trying to logically discuss the issue and then have another person MANAGE the situation is also super unprofessional. There are other Trip Advisor reviews mirroring the same aspects (SEE golding73 and CindyK reviews) as well as if you Google "David & Jency Snyder" there are other reported complaints of scamming against them.... WOW. The real clincher is that after contacting the Maui County Planning Department, this is an illegal, non-permitted Bed & Breakfast. They are NOT PERMITTED to have guests. They have a FAKE NOTICE sign on their property saying they are in the application process -but NO APPLICATION has been filed per the Maui County Planning Department as of 6/19/15. Something needs to be done about people that operate in this manner!!

We were just informed on 8/12/2015 that our pre-existing reservation was cancelled for 10/18-11/8. Would help us find another hotel and discount. This is totally unacceptable and could have ruined our plans except for our friends benevolent offer to stay with them. We should have been compensated. Flight is booked and rental car. No hotels this time of year at reasonable rates . NO RECOMMENDATION HERE FROM ME. Teaser Illegal Bed & Breakfast Blue Tile Beach House currently leased by William McCormick (AKA Liam McCormick), Linda Gallagher (AKA Poni Brendan), Paul Peters, Angie Peters, Kenny Griswold and Mimi Griswold have been operating this establishment as an illegal Bed & Breakfast for years and may be shut down by the county of Maui. 2014 VIDEO TOUR BELOW. This place is lovely! I am traveling on my own and wanted a more social environment which is why I went with a B&B. I actually call it a BnMYOB (Bed n Make Your Own Breakfast - they fill the fridge and you take care of yourself). The place is on a gorgeous beach, the hosts are lovely, and it's very special. Sort of like staying with a friend in their big beach house that needs some improvements but is full of love and charm. I made this video tour for anyone who wants to see for themselves: youtube.com/watch?v=CUIS…

Holy beach access, Batman!! What a great place to be able to rent in the best part of Maui! Mana Foods provides all the healthy groceries you need to cook in the kitchen and serve on the huge dining room table. ...And then there's the master bedroom with soaring ceilings and crazy killer views. Great spot. Get it if you can.

BED BUGS, BED BUGS, BED BUGS!!! Our friends rented the entire house for themselves and our parents during our wedding. The view from the master suite and the ground floor suite were absolutely stunning! However most of the beds in the rooms and all of the futons had bedbugs!!!! We pulled up the sheets on a bed and noticed there was a bug cover. Then we spoke to the house keeper and she was fully aware of the problem and said that the owners were as well. That information was very disturbing and disappointing. Yes the Beachhouse is beautiful, yes the Beachhouse is convenient to town, yes the Beachhouse has beautiful grounds but when you're paying that much money you should not have to endure bedbugs as well. Fix that problem and it's perfect!

Be aware that they have a no cancelation policy. I reserved this place but had to cancel. However I was told they cannot refund my payment.

I rented the entire house for my family of 5 for the Spring Break for 12 nights. It is right ON THE BEACH and the the view was a killer. With 3 little kids, it was so convenient and comfortable. Perfect set-up to hang and/or entertain other friends who are visiting Maui. Some of my friends who stayed at Grand Wailea or Four Seasons, were so jealous as our place was so much spacious and cheaper and comfortable than so-crowded tourist trap of large hotels (not to mention the food and beverage bills and pool amenity fees each day with kids). I very much enjoyed our stay here and will be back next year.

Gorgeous, friendly innkeeper Alexis, great food. You can have breakfast at any hour (DIY). Just don't get the "ocean front" suite downstairs. Most of the view is obscured by the foliage, (necessary for erosion control). Also, the beach can get noisy, especially on weekends and afternoons with subwoofers from local car stereos. Other than those 2 factors, I'd give it 5 stars. But when it's quiet, it's gorgeous and peaceful, with waves crashing and birdsong most of the day, and an occasional gecko.

The Innkeepers, Eric and Alexis were wonderful and very accomodating! The B&B offers a variety of juices, milk, coffee and teas, eggs, muffins/bages/breads, yogurt, and a wonderful assortments of tropical fruits! They also provide complimentary towels, sunscreens, snorkeling gear and beach toys. If something is running low or is gone, don't hesitate to ask. They go to the grocery store almost everyday to replenish the house. Eric and Alexis strive to keep the house fun, yet relaxing and are knowledgeable of the island. You will not be disappointed with your vacation if you stay at this place! I highly recommend staying at the Blue Tile Beach House, especially in the groundfloor suite. It's spacious, has beautiful views, a sauna and a kitchenette! I didn't want to leave :( but I know I will be back, every year, from here on it. The location of the B&B is a quick 0.5mile walk into the hip, groovy town of Paia. It is also nestled right on the water, on a beach called Tavares (spelling?) Bay. The water here is beautiful and crystal clear. Lots of people swimming, paddle boarding and snorkeling. The bay tends to get a little on the rough side in late afternoon but it's still manageable to swim. In fact, my 6 year old and I swam here everyday and I was a bit worried because they say North Shore is rough but nothing every happened. All that worry for nothing. My daughter did get swept under one time, but it happened in Lahaina not Tavares Bay. Needless to say we didn't go back to that side. I saw in other reviews that some people complained about the locals but I found that they made the beach that much more interesting and appealing (and I did mu fair share of beach hoping but Tavares Bay was one of my favorites). The locals on the beach were very friendly and respective. Sure, they bbq'd/partied one day out of the 7 days I stayed there but the smell of the BBQ was mouth watering. After spending a little time on the beach, a conversation sparked with some of the locals and next thing I know, they offered me authentic Hawaiian BBQ food and it was finger licking good! If you do happen to hear their island tunes bumping from their car stereos, just take it in and enjoy it, be apart of their culture. Don't worry the music subsides by sunset. What else can I say? I absolutely loved this B&B and the town! I cannot wait to go back!
