We ordered a personal size calzone and a 10" Greek pizza. Both were great. Delicious, hot and fresh. Pretty busy for a Saturday night but we got seated quickly. The lady sitting behind us with her many kids and husband, said they come here every time they visit Sanibel because it's the best pizza! True.

Good enough pizza. The place is loud and fills up quick though, so be prepared for a wait. Prices look really high for pizzas, but order the "curly crust" which is just a regular NY-style with a dumb name and add your toppings to save like $6. Pretty decent beer selection.

My boyfriend ordered two slices, which easily made up about half a pizza, they were so big. It was good and affordable so I'd recommend it. However, I paid entirely too much money for the fettuccine alfredo. It was so bland, I had to just keep adding parmesan and salt to make it edible. Waitress seemed bored and disinterested. Kind of a meh place overall. May go back for pizza though.

So my husband and I were in the mood for pizza and we found this place near our hotel. When we walked in, we seated ourselves since no one approached us. Five minutes later, a girl there told us they were no longer taking restaurant orders but we could order to take out. I placed an order for a large half veggie half cheese. They accidentally made a half cheese half meat. They then apologized and made us a small Veggie. They also gave us a 15% discount for the inconveniences (I guess they realized they had messed up). The veggie and cheese were good but, if I did eat meat, the meat side looked like the meat needed to be cooked more. Maybe we just got there too close to their closing time which a staff told us that sometimes it's 9pm. Go Earlier and you may encounter a better experience!

As I sit here 3 hours after dinner, fighting heartburn, I have no choice but to rate Island Pizza one star. The house salad was mostly mozzarella and a cup of thick lumpy dressing. The NY pizza - really??? And the buffalo chicken pizza - what, were there a dozen bite sized chicken pieces on it? Sadly this place will come off our list of yearly visits. Pass the Tums please

Pizza was terrible. There was literally no cheese on it and what was on it tasted like plastic. We got the island times (Margarita) pizza.

Great pizza. Great garden salad. Service fast but not too fast. Never felt rushed. Nice server. Recommended.

Not to be missed! Fresh cooked food and tasty. We come every time we visit Sanibel. Last night we had fried zucchini, fried Mac and cheese bites and the crusty curl pizza. What a guilty pleasure. The zucchini was fresh and still a little crunchy. Mac and cheese bites were creamy and the pizza dough soft and yummy. Can't wait to be back.

We've seen all types of reviews for place. We really liked it and will likely go back, but you need to know exactly what this place is -- a dive pizza joint. If you go there for pizza and cold beer then you will probably like it. If you go there for salad, pasta, dessert or anything else that is not pizza and beer then you may not like it. Meat Lovers pizza was good and the pitcher of draft beer that we had was very cold. My guess is that the pizza sauce and the pasta sauce are probably the same thing but no big deal to me. Service was good enough for a pizza joint. My advice would be to be ready to order when your server comes to see you and that should move everything along smoother.

We ran in to pick up a pizza after sunset on a windy day. It was about 10 minutes from ordering to walking out. We didn't try any of the exotic crusts or toppings. What we got was good for the adults and kids. We added a garden salad that was fine, fresh mixed greens but not a lot of veggies. It served its purpose. The barkeep was friendly. No complaints. We'd go back.

So after a week of seafood we decided to get pizza for dinner. This was the easiest place to get into so we decided here. Parking was a bitch with maybe 10 total spots in front. We were greeted by a 10 year old girl who said sit anywhere. It took them about ten minutes to come to our table because they only have 1 server and 1 guy behind the bar. The guy behind the bar was extremely helpful and swift with bringing things to our table. The server was this old lady who would always forget about us. We didn't get water for 20 minutes and then she came with the food and took ten minutes to bring us blue cheese for the buffalo chicken pizza( which was supposed to be on the pizza already) Food- the food here sucked. By far the worst pizza I have ever had. The dough tasted like it was frozen before it was made and the cheese tasted not fresh. While we were at dinner the couple next to us sent back 3 different items because they were burnt or cold. This is unacceptable for a restaurant. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

  • Lindsey M.

They ruined the last night of our vacation with a cold, soggy dinner delivered more than two hours after it was ordered!! It was impossible to get through their phone after they were more than thirty minutes late. Gross food. Highly regrettable decision to order their food. :(

Last time we ever order island pizza. Crust burned - like we were eating a thin brick of cheese. Too many bad experiences. And it's really too bad. There is not a good pizza place to get pizza on the island.

    (1)
  • Mike M.

Reliably good, basic pizza. Always freshly made and hot. Great calzones, too. Staff is friendly, beer is cold, that's all I need from a restaurant with pizza in the name.

  • Maggie S.

Went here for the first time and despite the so-so reviews, I loved the place! There deep dish was great. Sauce to cheese ratio was just right. Highly recommended.

Consistently horrible. We had pizza delivered when we first moved to sanibel ... We are Italian ... Honestly the worst pizza we've ever had. Two months later ... Gave them the benefit of a doubt ... Shared our experience w the manager ... Ordered calzone and lasagna ...NEVER AGAIN ... The worst calzone EVER ... The lasagna was passable (stouffers equally good ... That's not saying much). Save you money!

First time visiting Sanibel and Im originally from New York, so I apologize that I am a bit of a pizza snob. If that bothers you, then skip this review. We rented bikes on the island and started out on our adventure. We stopped on at the Island Pizza Restaurant because it looked cool and I I love trying pizza everywhere I go. We sat at the bar and the bar tender/server was really nice. We ordered some beers and just a large plain pie with fresh basil. Normally I get more toppings but this restaurant charges 2.00 extra per topping. Even for things like a little basil sprinkled over the top. This is a bit of a pet peeve of mine, charging so much for a simple topping. Nonetheless, this did. Or influence my rating overall. So we ordered the plain pie and beers. Pizza came out pretty quickly and I was excited to see that it looked good. The pizza however had a bit too much cheese. I like cheese, but cmon, don't drown out the pizza with cheese. The cheese was overpowering and there was barely any sauce. So you couldn't taste the sauce at all, because it was almost nonexistent. After I pulled some cheese off, it was basically eating bread. All in all, I liked the place and atmosphere. Pizza could be better. I would still recommend it, I would just say, "easy on the cheese".

The pizza is delicious. I come here every time I go on vacation. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because the server sucked this year.

Pizza came out quickly and it was delicious! Our waitress was very nice and friendly. We go every year we visit and are never disappointed!

This little gem on Sanibel Island serves some of the best pizza I have had in a long time! True, east coast pizza with a nice light crust, not too heavy on the cheese and great flavor! Splitting a pepperoni, mushroom with my mom along with a nice cold beer hit the spot after the beach. Love this place - laid back vibe, football on TV and not busy for a Sunday afternoon in September which was even better. I can't wait to go back!

  • Pam H.

Stopped in at Island Pizza after disappointing service at George and Wendy s. Darien, the General Manager was very polite, pizza was delicious, and service was quick. As an annual visitor to Sanibel we will come back for more.

  • Uncle Buck S.

I have never had great pizza on Sanibel Island, and I didn't love this pizza. Yet, it is totally acceptable. The ingredients were fresh and the pizza was well prepared. The most accurate thing I can say is that like so much on Sanibel, it is made to be average so that it does not offend anyone.

Great pizza, supper expensive but the baked leftover pizza tasted eben better the second day. We had peperoni, cheese and chicago deep dish veggies. Yummy.

Island Pizza exceeded our expectations for what appeared to be the only game in town with regard to pizza delivery. We ordered a large "Crusty Curl" pie with pepperoni, the Buffalo Shrimp and the Crab Bites, and we were told 45-60 minutes for delivery to our hotel (we expected this given that it was Friday at peak dinner time). We got the food in 45 minutes, still plenty warm. The pizza was delicious, as were the appetizers. Was it "New York style" good? Who cares?! It was plenty tasty, and the crust was fresh and delicious. And the price was not unreasonable given the location (in fact, it was the cheapest dinner for four we had all week). I would not hesitate to recommend for those nights when you don't feel like leaving the hotel room (or any other night, for that matter!).

  • S K.

Pizza, Greek salad and sandwiches were all good. My four stars dropped to three because of the service. It may have been the worst service I have ever experienced at a restaurant. Food took a very long time to come out. We were out of drinks before it came out and couldn't get a refill because it wasn't our server who delivered the food and she basically dropped it and ran without making eye contact. If you get tired of all the fish restaurants in Sanibel. this is a decent choice. I would opt for delivery though.

  • John V.

I'm actually surprised by all of the reviews bashing this pizza. We had the crispy-curl pizza crust and it was just the way I love my pizza. Thin crust, huge pieces of pizza that fold in the middle! Absolutely delicious! Plus, they delivered to us in a monsoon type downpour, haha!

    (4)
  • Josh N.

I dont get it, for a quick little pizza dive it freaken RULES!! The all meat pizza is fantastic!

    (5)
  • Brittany M.

Average pizza, nothing special about it. We ordered a 18" pizza and two salads to go. They charged us $10 more than what they quoted us on the phone. Then when we got back to our hotel we didn't even get the salad dressings we asked for. Wouldn't recommend unless you just really want pizza.

  • Chris W.

I had a pizza craving when I was on the island and The Island Pizza was able to take care of that. Walking into the place instantly brought a smile on my face when I saw a Pac-Man machine. Major points for that! I can't speak for the delivery service but for dine-in our order was ready not long after the order was placed. There are plenty of tables/booths in the restaurant so we didn't have to wait to be seated. We decided to get the New York style pizza and specified the special crust with parmesan and herbs (pesto, oregano, etc) rolled into it. I liked the crust and would definitely get it again. As for the pizza itself I would classify it as 'good not great'. The sauce was very bland and could definitely use some work. I am curious to see what their flatbread and deep dish offerings are like.

  • Judy H.

We just finished a portion of the islander pizza that was delivered cold. The quality was close to an inexpensive frozen pizza. Almost tasteless. We did something tonight that we have never done. We put 3/4 of the pizza in the garbage. We were here a few years ago and ordered from island pizza and is was very good. Don't know what happened but cannot recommend.

    (1)
  • Jordan C.

I literally watched them take a pizza out of a freezer and bake it. That's all I have to say.

    (1)
  • Jordanna E.

It was great to find somewhere that was open on the island past 9...the staff was very nice, but the pizza was gross. It had definitely been reheated. The cheese on the pizza was gross, it was like cutting into cream cheese.. the consistency was not "right." The pizza is still sitting in the fridge as none of the eight people here wanted a second slice.....

    (2)
  • Jim D.

Great pizza, kids loved the crust.

    (4)
  • Carol G.

Crust was well cooked but everything else was undercooked. Ordered larges for the leftovers but no one ate more than one piece. We threw the rest away.

  • To Robin H.

Service was super slow. Ordered the San Remo pasta. Over sauced, no flavor. Pieces of eggplant were non existant. Salad dressing was bland. Garlic bread was mushy and flavorless. Iced tea was watered down. Husband had the eggplant parm. Marginally better. $37 for two very disappointing dinners.

    (1)
  • Chris C.

Pizza was ok, garlic knots were delightful though! Very pricy, that took me by surprise.

  • Kait W.

This is my favorite place on the island to get pizza! Coming from Chicago, I am picky about my pizza. And whenever I am down here, island pizza is a must! Ask for the hand rolled and tucked crust. It's AMAZING!

    (5)
  • Mark D.

Overpriced, under staffed, and burnt crust. A disappointment as we have eaten there many times in the past. Living off location and lack of competition.

    (1)
  • Roy G.

If NOT getting what you pay for is your thing, then this is the place for you. After several visits, this place keeps disappointing. Service staff is as just as inconsistent as the quality of the pizza here. Like to support local business, but not when they don't serve up to expectations. We regret ordering pizza from this place- Had frozen pizza that was much better.

    (2)
  • Jason V.

Crispy Curl crust pizza was great! We had a large with bacon and onion. Onions cut very thin. Also had a spaghetti carbonara that was very good as well. Surprised that they closed at 9 but seems like the entire island shuts down at 9 in the summer. Pizza a tad pricey but quality is good.

  • C H.

Awesome pizza. Our server was Mohira who was just perfect. We ordered the fresh pie and added pepperoni. Nothing was left when we were done. Still had room for dessert- key lime pie and the mousse cake. The pie was good & smooth. Not the best , but still enjoyable. The mouse cake was huge and very chocolately. Everyone seemed to help out clearing tables and keeping our drinks filled. We'd definitely be going back.

The staff was very friendly and the pizza was great! The vegetarian pizza was phenomenal!

  • Jay H.

Been here several times over the years and it is about the same. Good pizza, but not fabulous. Service is average as well as the atmosphere. However, Island Pizza has been around a long time and is a favorite place of those who visit the island.

    (3)
  • Jeri J.

I think that Island Pizza is really good and the service was just as good. My husband and I went to Sanibel for a quick getaway and came here for dinner. We ordered a pizza (the hand tossed). We would definitely come back here again on another trip to Sanibel.

    (3)
  • Frank S.

So 5 of us walk in on Saturday night at 8:50 and were told not to sit down as they were closing at 9:00, but that we could do atakeout order. Well they must have been in a real hurry to close as the pizzas were under-cooked. Can't remember the last time that any of us had pizza this bad. It was terriblyb bland too. There should be a law against places that make such bad pizza.

    (2)
  • Aries R.

Ok this Pizza place sucks big time. 1st it's over price the delivery guy even bad mouthed the establishment. Spaghetti was so bad I couldn't give it away for free. The pizza was worst than food at the theater. Stay away if u want pizza and find a better place and let me know please!! Would like to know if this island has a better pizza spot?

    (5)
  • R W.

Save your money and buy a frozen pizza down at Bailey's. The crust was like none I've ever made. It was oddly flavored, tough on the edge, soggy in the middle. Virtually no sauce was present. Flavorless sausage and pepperoni with pre-steamed, thick slices of onion completed the disappointing pie. If this place didn't have a constantly rotating , unsuspecting vacationing customer base they'd be out of business.

    (1)
  • B K.

I really enjoy the pizza at island pizza. The dough is fresh and cheese is great. It's a perfect mixture of cheese and sauce. I also enjoy the curly crust. The side salads are always fresh and are sprinkled with the cheese used on the pizza. The wings are nothing special but always cooked right. It's a little pricey for a pizza place but still a cheaper option compared to other restaurants on the island. I always get take out so I can't review what it's like to eat in the restaurant.

  • Katie G.

Pizza is infamously bad on Sanibel - and has been since I was kid coming here in the mid 80's. Island Pizza has been here as long as I can remember - and it is edible - but that is about it. I think they are the only place that delivers pizza on the Island. The basic cheese pizza that we had delivered was barely edible - in fact, we ended up throwing most of it away. The mostly burned frozen pizza that we had in addition to it was actually better than the cheese pizza we got from Island Pizza. The sauce tastes like Ragu and the cheese was hardened and old looking. Hope not to be back - but sometimes, it is a necessary evil to have a pizza delivery on vacation.

    (2)
  • Pete K.

We should have listened to the reviews pointing out the substandard product. From the rude dude taking the order over the phone to the taste, it sucked. Heartburn is the outcome. One bight note, the delivery dude was nice, that's why I cared to give it any review as the only choice is one star not negative!!

    (1)
  • Doug g.

Mediocre at best. Ordered on a night we didn't want to grill/cook. Might as well have bought frozen or a crust and did it myself. Been visiting since 1973 and the pizza on the island has never been something to write home about.

    (1)
  • Jim B.

Waiter failed to tell us one of the ovens wasn't working....1 hour later the pizza arrived....COLD!! Bad attitudes and poor service made for a long evening and the pizza was awful!! Avoid at all cost!

  • Hayley W.

Best pizza I have ever had!!!! The wings in the special Sanibel sauce were amazing! The curly crust is a must. The staff are very friendly and aim to please. We look forward to this pizza on our yearly visits to the island.

  • Susan C.

My husband and I ordered the antipasto salad to start, and, in all my years, have never seen an antipasto salad quite like it ~ and I mean, not in a good way. Odd bits of ham chunks and cheese......We ordered a flatbread sausage, onion and mushroom pizza and it was barely edible. The sausage is full of fat and they screwed up our order so that when we were done they offered us the *real* flatbread pizza to go. Give me a Chicago style pizza any day of the week ~ will not be returning.

    (2)
  • Mindi M.

I am rating this establishment a two because the staff was excellent! The food was not that good :( warm to cold mozzarella cheese sticks, pizza was kinda gross!! Sorry guys!! :(

  • Nathan C.

It beats any of the chain pizza restaurants, but didn't really knock my socks off. It's not bad, don't get me wrong -- but I've had better pizza. They do serve a full spread of Italian dishes though, so I can't judge the whole menu. They give you generous amounts of pie for the money, especially since they could get away with charging island prices. And again, it's perfectly adequate pizza. They are usually slammed during the season, so if you want to order you will need to call well ahead (maybe an hour) before you really want to eat. Delivery will add to this time, of course.

    (3)
  • Rob B.

Unique pizza here! They had many different types from flat, regular, and deep dish. We tried the deep dish parm pizza. It was just ok. My wife liked it better than me. This one didn't have any sauce, so that was a major bummer! We asked for bread sticks and they gave us garlic toast with cheese on it. Our order was about $25 total. Too much for us.

Bruschetta app bread stale, pizza not cooked long enough. Would not recommend.

Easter Weekend is tough on any restaurant and I get that. We wanted to enjoy our hotel and not fight the crowd, so we ordered in. The food took 1 1/2 and it was cold and I could tell yhey were disorganized. We got one wrong pizza ( Meat instead of Veggie) and the 18" Buffalo Chicken Pizza had very, very little chicken on it. I think they should redo their systems to handle and certainly ad more chicken to the Buffalo Chicken Specialty Pizza!

We vacation in Sanibel at least once a year and have eaten here (dine in and delivery) on several occasions. DELIVERY: if you call early enough to get through then it is ok, otherwise you may not get through and if you do it is around a 2 hr. wait for delivery. So I have driven there and placed an order for carryout. This may be challenging as well as the parking lot is small as is the inside of the restaurant. For carryout it averaged around 45 min wait time. On the last couple of occasions the bottom of the pizza has been slightly burned. DINE IN: we have stopped in for lunch and for early dinner (around 4:30). They have a bar, a couple of arcade games and a lot of children's books for the kids to use while waiting, and boy do you need it. It was not busy when we dined in but it took our server about 12 min. just to come take our drink orders. By then we were ready to order our pizza but she said let me grab the drinks and I'll be right back. Another 10 or so minutes later she finally came back. She took our 1 large pizza order and we didn't see her again for 20-25 minutes when she brought our pizza. In the mean time we had empty cups as we rode our bikes there and it was hot outside. After delivering the pizza and finally getting us refills we never saw her again. We sat around after finishing the pizza for about 15 min. then I had to hunt her down for the check. OVERALL: The pizza is better than the typical chain but the dine in service is terrible. We have found another place right down the road that serves and delivers pizza and the quality is MUCH better, in fact it's "GREAT" (see my other reviews from Sanibel for the name).

  • Betzy M.

I had reservations after reading some of the negative reviews but am happy to say "wow nice service"! Our one takeout order was made too small so they not only made another but gave us the small one and free drinks for waiting! Hey doesn't get better than that. PLUS My family loved the food too. Now, I'm a very picky pizza eater and found the pizza good especially after i doctor it up with grilled jalapenos and garlic yummy!!

  • David F.

Really BAD pizza. Was on Sanibel for spring break, and the kids wanted a quiet night at home, watching TV and eating pizza. Not a lot of pizza options, so we gave it a try. Food was ready in less than the 20 minutes they quoted when we phoned in the order. Toppings were scarce and the pizza was burned. The taste was as bad as the appearance. Would have preferred Dominos! If you need pizza on Sanibel, go across the street to Jerry's and save yourself some cash buy picking up a few frozen pizzas don't be fussy with brand, any of them would be a step up!

  • Dana T.

We picked up our order of white pizza, lasagna, bruschetta, and two salads for dinner last night. The pizza was okay, but the lasagna and bruschetta weren't very good. Actually, the bruschetta looked so bland we didn't even bother to try it. When when got home, we realized that our salads were missing (even after they reconfirmed everything was in there as they handed it to us). They did take the cost of salads off of our total when we called them, but we were really looking forward to having them and weren't driving back. Either way, $50 for the amount and quality of food wasn't worth it.

  • George S.

Pizza good, service slow. People at a table complained of very long wait. When their food arrived, it was burnt.

  • Neil A.

Made my third stop here on a recent weekend to the Sanibel area. We love the low key atmosphere here and can alway find a seat. Had a veggie pizza with Jalapeño's - IMO they give pizza an awesome flavor regardless of the heat. Nice crust and a fresh taste to all the ingredients Also had their bruschetta app which was super simple but yummy. Good iced tea too - only suggestion would be to add more craft beers and this would be a full 5 stars.

  • Duane J.

When we ate at Island Pizza Company, they were slammed and short staffed. You could see that the wait staff were a little frazzled. We were seated pretty quickly and we got the last available table. Even given this, the staff was friendly and seemed to be doing the best they could. They took our order and the pizza arrived in less than 15 minutes. Not to bad for a short staffed pizza joint filled to capacity. By the time we left, more staff had arrived and you could feel the place relax a little. The pizza wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was good and better than what you'd get from the pizza chains. I'm giving them 4 stars for great service during a stressful time and for having better than average pizza.

    (4)
  • Kristin H.

Delivery is super slow, but the pizza itself is good. I like how they roll up sauce in the crust. Very yummy. And the ingredients are high quality--real cheese, real bacon, etc.

  • Jessica N.

We had an 18" parmesan herb "curly crust" cheese pizza. As experienced pizza connoisseurs, we thought it was AWESOME. The mozzarella was fresh, the sauce was on point. It really tasted great, so great that we want to go again and soon. I don't understand a lot of these negative reviews, we got a super fresh nice melty cheese and saucy pizza without a ridiculously long wait. The pacman machine is a nice touch for kids and retro game lovers. The service was also very good, I had ordered a lemonade which I didn't quite like and it was switched for a coke with no problem. FYI free refills.

  • Julie C.

Disappointed for the second time, pizza is really cheap. Cheap sauce, cheap toppings, cheap cheese. We ordered an 18 inch thinking we would eat the leftovers but we ended up throwing it all away. Spend your money elsewhere.

Island Pizza would not survive in a city with other pizza choices but here it seems to thrive. We tried calling to order out for pickup but they were so busy (Sunday night) we were unable to get through on the phone. (This is the thrive part) We decided to make the short drive, order our pizza and have a beer at their small bar area while we waited. All was good at this point. (This is the Sanibel is so cool and convenient part.) Then we waited, and waited, and waited, and waited and waited and waited some more. Over an hour and a half went by, and one of the waitresses politely asked us if we were "....just here for a drink, or would we like to order some food." What? Apparently Bob had forgetten to put our pizza order in, or the order was lost or who knows what happened. So another 30 - 40 minutes went by and we ended up being given the wrong pizza, that was the wrong size, was luke warm and with great irony half burnt. Seriously, how do you half burn a pizza and still serve it luke warm??? We started to go back in and ask for a new pizza, but by this point over two hours had passed and we had three hungry boys texting us from the condo. No more Island Pizza for us. With all of this said, Bob was a nice guy and the young lady who answers the phone taking pizza orders was very pleasant and FGCU continues to surprise everyone in the NCAA. Go FGCU! Gotta love an underdog. Island Pizza is the Georgetown of the NCAA. They didn't think they had anything to worry about and then all of a sudden little 'ole FGCU Eagles flew in, shook their tail feathers and swooshed the Hoyas back to DC. Georgetown never saw it coming. I wonder who Island Pizza's FGCU will be? The Georgetown of Sanibel pizza plays their game luke warm and burnt and is primed to get knocked off their pizza thrown.

This is our 4th time in Sanibel and driven past The Island Pizza until last night my husband and I decided that we should try it. The wait was long .We placed our order and OMG another freaking wait! If you are working with people definitely have customer skills and our waitress had none. At least come to your customers and let them know either "pizza's on the way" or "5 more minutes". Something to keep customers satisfied. We were starving we took at least 10 mins to finish our pizza.Oh by the way our pizza was cold . Poor customer skills + bad food= lousy tip.

Island Pizza is a tasty, no-frills place to get a pizza on Sanibel. We dined in and it was a very casual, laid back kind of place. The mozzarella sticks were typical but good, and the chopped salad was a nice starter. We had the "curly crust" pizza which was good and different with the sauce rolled up into the crust. There was plenty of cheese on top to make it greasy in a good way, if that makes any sense. Like someone else mentioned they have some kids books and a couple arcade machines to entertain the little guys. The staff was friendly, too.

Full disclosure: my husband worked at this pizza place when he was super young. He was like, a six year old pizza sweatshop worker...just kidding, he was of age. But he told me ten thousand stories about the place, like when he used to climb up the tower when it was dead, or practice guitar til the business next door used to scream at him to shut up. I would imagine that many of their customers are tourists and they take a beating in the off-season. So it was great to have a fresh, tasty pizza in central Florida. The staff was relaxed and friendly. The place caters to families and those with small kids, but I could see curling up at the bar with some wine for a bit, too. Yum!

Far from memorable, but it definitely beats chain delivery options (not that there are any on the island). Perfectly adequate for that lazy family meal the first day of arriving on the island.

  • K. B.

We were seated quickly .. Admittedly, the place wasn't busy, but we had good service, especially from the 10 year old girl who was the "manager." We found the salad and pizza to be tasty. Not sure why people would give their pizza bad reviews. It's pizza. Dough, cheese, tomato sauce. Pizza.

    (4)
  • Barry W.

Definitely the place - don't choose matzaluna, their pizza doesn't cut it. Island pizza is definitely the place!

Pizza is bad the thin crust is like eating cardboard. To bad its been bad for so long and no improvement.

Really awesome pizza! We had the parmesan stuffed crust and it was delicious! Good prices and a great beer selection. Cool decor too.

  • Trina R.

Fantastic pizza. We stay at sanibel every year and we ordered it last night. It was pouring rain so our pizza took about an hour and a half and wasn't too hot. However, the taste of the pizza made us forget it was late. We ordered a pepperoni and an islander special. They were phenomenal. One of the best pizzas I've had.

  • Scott V.

Off season and the island is quiet. Overall good pizza (with fresh ingredients) Service was good, had been here one other time in the past and it seems consistent. Good local vibe, very casual and laid back atmosphere

    (3)
  • Micky V.

The worst service I have ever experienced. The worst part is when they figure out they screwed up, they could not care less.

    (1)
  • Phil R.

Very good, hand-tossed pizza. We had a plain "Crispy Curl" crust pizza and an order of garlic bread. Everything was fresh and delicious, and the service was excellent. They had a small library of children's books which was much appreciated to keep the kids busy during what was a very reasonable wait for the food.

    (4)
  • Carol C.

They said delivery would be an hour and a half, but it was only 50 minutes! The pizza was absolutely delicious. Not the best I've ever had, but it was pretty good.

    (5)
  • Benjamin T.

Funky atmosphere with a vintage Pac-Man machine in the entrance. Joe was our waiter and was incredibly friendly and attentive. He recommended a great pizza too: South of the Border.

Dreadful lunch. Bad food, bad service, bad attitude. Waited for ages for our food including....a slice of pizza for my son. We ordered a burger, mussels, fries, a pizza and a slice of pizza. After being told many times that the food will be ready in 5mins. 50 mins later what arrived, apart from the pizzas, did not look eatable. Do I really have to give it a star?

  • B. Nicole G.

Such good 'zaa, y'all. Ate here for a lunch before my hair appointment and it was pretty empty, save an old couple and a mother with her two jail bait daughters in bikini tops and cheek hugger shorts. The manager served us since it seemed that the staff server was no where to be found. He was pleasant and fun, very low-key given the fact that he was in the midst of firing someone. We ordered a South of the Border on Parm and Herbs crust with beers and a coke and it was easily one of the best pizzas we've had outside our own kitchen in a long time. We swore we'd go back, but didn't have time while were there... good enough reason as any to head back to Sanibel in my opinion.

  • Kathleen H.

The only place we got food from twice. Great pizza. Loved the crust.

  • Slim S.

If you want pizza, try Sanibel Grill or Mazzaluna.

    (1)
  • Allison F.

Simply mediocre pizza. It will work if you want a cheap meal and pizza sounds satisfying, but there's nothing special about these pies. The "library" of books for kids is a nice touch, but otherwise, there was nothing memorable about Island Pizza.

    (3)
  • Max M.

Decent pie for sure. It's been our "opening nite after travel day" or our "First Nite" dinner every year since 1985...so long as Dot's isn't available at the time of arrival. The pizza is very good as are the pasta dishes. Salads are decent too, especially when fresh (which, I must admit can be a problem on occasion). Delivery can also be an issue with rookie delivery personnel, but usually not a problem. Nice, accommodating servers if you visit in person. Like the place, staff and foods. Really.

    (4)
  • Nic W.

After a long day of travel and not knowing the island well, we decided to just have pizza for dinner the first night. The delivery service was extremely fast and the pizza was great. You could tell the dough was made fresh and hand rolled. The garlic bread was ok...nothing special. Large pizza was big. Definitely a great choice if you do not want to go out.

  • Franco J.

My wife and I just visited Sanibel and Captiva island for the first time. We eat at several places, however nothing with a lasting impression other than this little pizza place. We thought this pizza was Awesome!! You can tell the dough is freshly made daily. The sauce is great. They hand toss there pizza's and they roll the edges up. How awesome is that?!?! We met the owner and he was very nice. The staff was very friendly. Jim G was awesome to chat with. I'm in the restaurant biz in StLouis. Let me tell you... This is great pizza!

    (5)
  • HisHer R.

His: Only if your kids are screaming for pizza. Hers: The pizza isn't exceptional but good, it was a nice break from the crowds (and prices) of the more well-known sanibel spots. Service was friendly, ambiance was ehh. There were a lot of families in there, seems pretty kid friendly.

  • Larry B.

Overall we found Island Pizza an enjoyable dining experience on Sanibel Island. While the pizza was only slightly better than average (certainly superior to the chains) but lacking in comparison to the best. They did use fresh toppings which was a plus. Staff were very friendly and responsive. No complaints at all. Also of note, this was by far the cheapest dinner we had on the island. Overall, a good value.

    (4)
  • Jackie B.

Pizza is good, but was delivered over an hour an a half after we ordered it. I bet it would have been better warm... Nevertheless, hand-tossed dough is a plus

    (3)
  • Rebecca G.

I really liked this place. The pizza was very tasty. Sauce was nice and if you get the New York Style they put a little sauce in the crust which was really good. We had the fried ravioli appetizer and it was delicious. I love all different kinds of pizza and this was really good. I would definitely try this place and recommend it. Service was fine but the place is small so I could see maybe having to wait during busy hours but that is normal for all restaurants on Sanibel in the winter.

    (4)
  • Mark P.

Good pizza, a kid's library, a fun surfer theme, good draft beers on tap and excellent service - what else do you want from a pizza place?

    (4)
  • AJ D.

Well I'm not exactly sure how to review them. I called on a Thursday night at 6:45. I called, and I called, and I called. A total of 14 times. I kid you not. I called their sister company and asked what was going on. They told me that when Island Pizza gets busy they don't answer. I understand you get busy but that doesn't mean you can't at least put me on hold. Absolutely ridiculous.

Yes, it is the only real pizza place on the island but I was quite impressed with the quality.

  • Mike M.

This could possibly be the worst pizza I've ever had. Bad, really bad! They get two stars from me because the service was great. Did I mention the pizza was bad?

    (2)

Pizza was good. Crust was hand-made and great. Staff was friendly. Definitely kid friendly.

    (4)
  • Monique Z.

We went to this pizza restaurant by chance of a drive by and we thought it was good. We are big NY pizza lovers but for a small Island and there not being tons of options in the first place Island Pizza was a great place if you're looking for cheap and easy. The one thing I will say is the way they do their crust is a nice surprise.

    (3)
  • Anastasia H.

This is the place that we always visit for pizza when on Sanibel. They accommodate my allergies and invariably get my order correct (much too rare...). The service is friendly. We've never left without leftovers in hand. No one could describe the décor as hip, but the map of Italy on the paper placements is charmingly retro.

    (3)
  • Teresa E.

Island Pizza is a great family friendly restaurant on Sanibel. The pizza is very good (really tasty crust) and the service is some of the best on the island. It is a well priced place as well!

    (3)

    (3)

    (3)

    (4)

  • Skyler T.

    (5)

  • Pamela M.

    (2)

Pizza good, service slow. People at a table complained of very long wait. When their food arrived, it was burnt.

  • Paul R.

Off season and the island is quiet. Overall good pizza (with fresh ingredients) Service was good, had been here one other time in the past and it seems consistent. Good local vibe, very casual and laid back atmosphere

  • Micky V.

The worst service I have ever experienced. The worst part is when they figure out they screwed up, they could not care less.

  • Carol C.

They said delivery would be an hour and a half, but it was only 50 minutes! The pizza was absolutely delicious. Not the best I've ever had, but it was pretty good.

Really.

  • L P.

True.

    (5)
  • James P.

Good enough pizza. The place is loud and fills up quick though, so be prepared for a wait. Prices look really high for pizzas, but order the "curly crust" which is just a regular NY-style with a dumb name and add your toppings to save like $6. Pretty decent beer selection.

  • Caitie K.

  • Josie D.

  • Desi M.

Pizza was terrible. There was literally no cheese on it and what was on it tasted like plastic. We got the island times (Margarita) pizza.

Great pizza. Great garden salad. Service fast but not too fast. Never felt rushed. Nice server. Recommended.

  • Cindi P.

  • Randall M.

  • Lo L.

Yummy.

  • D T.

I dont get it, for a quick little pizza dive it freaken RULES!! The all meat pizza is fantastic!

This could possibly be the worst pizza I've ever had. Bad, really bad! They get two stars from me because the service was great. Did I mention the pizza was bad?

Pizza was good. Crust was hand-made and great. Staff was friendly. Definitely kid friendly.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
