*expected food to take a long time, because it states so on the menu that it isn't "fast" food...however drink orders & all other service was also very slow *TONS of burger toppings....and all pretty delicious! minus the ones they forgot on a couple of our burgers... *4 of us split a small french fry/onion ring combo & with the burgers it was plenty...(although would have loved to have more onion rings just cause they are SO good!) *onion rings are thin, battered perfectly and DELICIOUSLY FABULOUS! *french fries were also good with house seasoning *would definitely return if we were staying on the island longer...although might grab some onion rings to go tomorrow on the way out (:

One of the few places that offered an option of quasi-healthy food in Sanibel on a Sunday. Mushroom wrap was awesome and sweet potato fries just totally slayed. Nice and crispy. Good flavor, though it's no secret they were frozen. Got my order right and in less time than they told me to expect. Not the best, but hey...again. Open on a Sunday.

This is a pretty standard stop for our Sanibel trips. Everyone enjoys their burgers and shakes and its a nice place for families due to the atmosphere, kid-friendly menu, etc. You can try out a couple different sized burgers, different meats (or a veggie burger), as well as wide array of toppings. Their milkshake menu is very impressive, with tons of different options. I had the almond milkshake this time around, and it was by far my favorite. Our table started out with some french fries and onion rings as appetizers, and they were delicious and satiated our cravings for greasy diner fare. Almost everyone got a burger, but I was in the mood for something different. I tried the chicken fingers, and they were pretty decent. I think I'd definitely switch back to a burger next time, but it was a nice break.

Pros: Great burgers, great shakes, great food. Cons: Long wait, but that's okay because it says its not fast food right on the menu. Also the waitress coughed on my mother. Been here a couple times, used to long wait, service is usually good, but this one waitress wasn't the best. Overall: I recommend going, but if management reads this, please tell your employees to not work if they are sick. Thanks

Being a burger joint my half pound burger was not much better than a fast food chains. Probably would have given a third star if the wait for 2 burgers and small loaded fries didn't take 30min. (Place was 2/3 empty on a holiday weekend which should have given me a clue.)

  • SunnyGrl ..

For a place that's name has burger in it, VERY SAD. The only temps you can get are medium on, which I got; overbooked, dry & the quality of the beef is very cheap. The loaded fries & onion rings are good. The wait for your food is l-o-n-g & it wasn't even crowded. I know it's Sanibel but I'll pass.

Cheeburger Cheeburger is a must on the island. I don't care who you are, or what type of restaurant you like, you have to come here. The burgers have that delicious crispy sear and are so juicy and flavorful. The whole menu is based upon a "build your own" concept.. Burgers, salads, and milkshakes all customizable. Everything is made to order. The high point of the whole place is "The Pounder". A 20 ounce burger that's something of a legend. Eat it, and they'll ring a bell and announce to the whole place that in a battle of man vs burger, you came out on top. You'll also get your picture on the wall of fame. Go ahead, give "The Pounder" a try.. If you think you can handle it!

This has been an island favorite for many years while vacationing in Sanibel. On our last visit, June 2015, the food was excellent! The burgers are cooked to order and the milk shakes are awesome. A "must" when visiting Captiva & Sanibel!

  • Connie G.

Custom-made is the subject here: The burgers are made to order with an extended list of add-on ingredients. Salads can be custom-ordered too :) Milkshakes can also be created from an extensive list of flavors, HOWEVER... The service is EXTREMELY SLOW. This is not a place to get in and out without an 1-1/2 to spare :(

Friendly staff. Excellent burgers. MUST HAVE the chocolate malt. Love the toppings options and the fries were crunchy and scrumptious. Definitely give this place a try!

Did I mention that I LOOOVE Cheeburger, Cheeburger?! Well I do! It's one of my favorite burger joints, and burgers is what they do best. I lied, burgers, onion rings and milkshakes are what they do best! Every Sanibel vacation includes a few visits here and while the service can be hit or miss, the majority of the servers are awesome and provide great service. My fave meal here is the semi-serious burger with bacon, pepper jack cheese, mayo, an onion ring and jalapeños; small onion rings (they are large enough to share); and a chocolate peanut butter shake. It's a meal fit for a Queen, as they use the freshest ingredients and everything is tasty! If you prefer something healthier, they offer that too! There are salads, wraps, veggie burgers, chicken sandwiches etc. This is truly a great spot for family meals, and my only criticism is the fact that they nickel and dime you for sauces and some of the burger toppings. I think .99 for grilled onions and 1.99 for mushrooms is a bit much. I understand paying extra for bacon, but veggies should be included. Having said that, it's still one of the most affordable places to eat on the island. If you do visit, don't forget to take a pic with the larger than life stuffed cheeburger!

Take down the glass brick wall. Let us all see each other. You have a captive audience. Our kids will make us come. Center section is like a prison. Beautiful perimeter windows - PLEASE take down the glass brick.

Disappointing! Began with waiting for a table for 5-10 minutes when they restaurant was not busy or full. Asked the server to bring loaded fries as a "starter", they came about 30 minutes later, at the same time as our burgers. All our burgers were ordered medium, we even specified pink in the middle, they all came well done & dry. Poor service, had to request drink refills.

Was looking forward to coming here , my malt was delicious and food was decent but my experience was ruined while eating dinner seeing a cockroach walk by my feet and crawl up the wall right by our table....appetite was ruined after that. Won't be coming back.

Other family members said hamburgers were good. Took nearly an hour to get out food. Chicken tenders were frozen and no good. 2 stars for the mug rootbeer and fries.

  • Michael C.

Food was very good and the restaurant was very appealing to look at. I would more than likely go again and would recommend this place to other people. However, the reason I would not give this four or five stars is because our waitress was very nasty and rude to my family and I. As someone who's enlisted in the army it was utterly disgusting how this waitress treated my family. She avoided us and any communication that was had was rushed to the point of parts of our order not being heard. We were shorted two orders of fries and waitress didn't ask if we wanted wanted desert or any of their shakes. So unfortunately I can't tell any of you how they are.

This place was pretty great. Got exactly what we expected. The burger was absolutely delicious and very fresh. The fries were nothing special but just fine with malt vinegar or ketchup. Very good price for what you're getting.

  • Nicole D.

Great burgers! They even have gluten free rolls/buns. Portion sizes were generous too.

    (4)
  • Sarah B.

Food was OK. The veggie burger was huge, but oddly was skimpy on toppings. Generous portion of fries/onion rings, but they were super greasy and lacked salt. An overall underwhelming meal. For those avoiding dairy, I am relatively certain the veggie burgers are Gardenburgers, which contain cheese. May want to check on that before ordering.

  • Lau H.

First timer, came with friends to grab a bite to eat before we go fishing. I ordered the cheesteak which was really good. I like how you can add any topping on your choice of food. Must try cheesteak and the serious burger!

Vegan at Cheeseburger Cheeseburger What a surprise that they came up as a vegan friendly restaurant on our search. The Boca burger was good and the portobello wrap was outstanding. The sweet potato fries were a great addition but be sure to request no cheese on the salad.

Hope you like waiting. Slooooowwwww. Stopped in for one , yes one, take out burger. Hardly anyone in the place . Yet still took 25 minutes. Claimed they "were backed up in the kitchen".

  • Pedestrian P.

Went for lunch and it was pretty good. Expensive for the portion and quality but it is on Sanibel. The $1.50/sauce was crazy. You get your burger whatever way you want, any combination and size. Fries and rings were both greasy. Dr. Pepper float was very good. Decor was very nice and had large cutouts of movie icons. Glad I went but probably would not return.

  • Susan S.

I've eaten here a few times in the past. The food is very consistent ~~ and that's a good thing. You can have your burger with almost any topping you can imagine, even peanut butter. No, I didn't have peanut butter on my burger! They even offer some nice veggie options, like a portobello burger. Maybe next time. This time I had the 1/3 pound semi-serious burger with a garden of toppings. The small half & half basket of fries and onion rings is just the right size to share. I don't like leaving a restaurant feeling gross from eating too much. The prices are good, especially since it's on Sanibel Island.

  • Randall M.

Pretty much as advertised. 20 minutes to sit a party of four at 6 pm. However, the food was good and the service was fine once we got seated. Burgers are cooked to order with tons of toppings available. The best surprise for me was the mixed fries/onion ring basket which was fantastic. Nice touch having Trivial Pursuit cards at each table and that made the time pass quickly. We all walked away very happy.

Order the onion rings!!!! Yum yum! Burger meat could use some seasoning. Make sure you add the seasoning mix that's on the table where it tastes like something!! Very family friendly! The flavored soda was also good!!

  • Sid B.

Very popular, but perhaps over-rated since not as many others seem oriented to families. We went late (230) to avoid the crowds; Waiter said that kitchen wouldn't customize when its busy - even though NOT crowded at the time (ok they already customize most items) Hamburgers were very good; but both my items were not - a turkey burger tasted frozen & re-cooked or just not flavored; and the beverage got wrong - but said "that was how they did it" Tipped well because waiter fixed all problems quickly and tried hard - but not sure if he or the kitchen caused the many errors. But in the end, the food was not more than a 3

One of the funnest restaurants I have ever been to! Very family friendly, old school diner them which was awesome. They serve the kids meals ( and the adults if you pay extra ) in this adorable cardboard cars! The custom burgers were cooked all the way and were nice and juicy. I got the PB&J milkshake which is easily the best milkshake I have ever had! Air conditioned and clean.

We ate here on the first night of our arrival in Sanibel. After a long day of driving and flying we wanted something quick and easy. This definitely was the right place. It's like an old fashion grill. The adults had the burgers that the place is known for....tons of choices for toppings. The kids had hot dogs. Pretty good stuff. The fries come separate and a medium was plenty large for 3 adults to share. We had the milk shakes. They were delivered before the meal, which was a negative because we filled up on shakes before our meal came. Overall, the staff was super nice and I would eat there again.

Wonderful Peanut Butter Shake! They have a wonderful Patty Melt. My wife had 1/2 pounder burger and it looked huge. She said it was SOOO good! Also get your $12 coupon off of Groupon! I love to save money and I hope you will try this great burger place.

  • David A.

Who could pass up this place? Aside from the overpriced food, the burgers are the best I have ever had. The bun is toasted, the burger is done to perfection, and the cheddar cheese is so good. The fries are to die for. They are crispy and not lukewarm. The malts are delicious. Vanilla, chocolate, you name it. They even have a wall of fame for who eats the one pound burger. Very good place to go after a long days work. A great 50's atmosphere. Even Elvis is there. Well his poster at least. Great service, is in a nice area, and t-shirts are available.

  • Jeanne C.

I loved it. Yes its a chain, but for beach food it's the way to go. The sweet potato fries weren't worth it, but we loved the onion rings, regular fries, and our burgers. You definitely want to go at least once! We had great service and had great company with the King - Elvis at our table.

  • Food G.

Poor management. Pretentious burger place. Most of the restaurant was empty on a Saturday lunch yet they still wanted to make us wait 30min for a table and gave us attitude.

Our favorite place to eat everytime we come to the island. The burgers, onion rings, and shakes are really good!

Great burger but a little warm and dirty in the restaurant.

  • Susan C.

I loved this place. I loved that they gave you a choice of burger, fries, and onion ring sizes....both my husband and I ordered the 1/3 of a pound burger and was confronted with the dilemma of what toppings to order....they must have had over 30 choices, free! I opted for the Thousand Island dressing, sun-dried tomatoes and onions and was very pleased. The onion ring order was huge since we ordered the medium size that feeds 2-3. If you are only 2 people, go for the small order. It's plentiful. And the shake combinations...oh my....what choices! My husband had the banana chocolate shake and couldn't finish it. Again, they give you the choice of either a large or half order. Will be back! And, its a great place for kids!

My wife, my 8yr old son and I went to the original Cheeburger Cheeburger on Sanibel Island FL today and we had a ball! Best milkshakes ever! I enjoyed my cheesesteak sandwich and we all loved the fries and rings. I must say our waitress Schelene did a great job too! She went out of her way to make sure we had a marvelous time. Mission accomplished Schelene! We will certainly ask for you the next time we are down that way and would highly recommend other diners do the same. Thanks again for a delightful experience !

As a former local, I do have to say that Cheeburger Cheeburger leaves a lot to be desired. The food is just "okay", although they do offer a wide variety of different burgers and casual food. This is one of the better island spots for kids and families, however, and I will say that their milkshakes can be quite impressive!

I love this place!! 50's retro theme complete with oldies music and Elvis, James Dean, and Marilyn decor. The inside is a super cool round shaped building that is just fun. We stopped in literally 20 minutes before they closed, not realizing they closed so early. They were so nice and said it was totally fine, and and not once did they make us feel rushed. This place is awesome because of the endless free burger toppings. I will say it does cost slightly more for caramelized onions, and mushrooms, and bacon, but regardless, it's not very much and there are so many other free options (including coleslaw!). I paid extra for bacon, which was thick, crispy and delicious. I also got peanut butter, pickled jalapeno, and mayo(all free). I know this combo sounds cray cray, but it was effing delicious!!! A small platter of fries will feed 4 people easily, and they are pretty cheap. We tried a couple dipping sauces, marshmallow and nacho cheese (we had sweet potato fries too). The marshmallow had a weird cinnamon taste and odd texture. The cheese was neon. So, both of those were a no go and I would say completely unnecessary anyway. Every time I come to Sanibel/Captiva, this is a must stop, and I can probably only say that about 2 other restaurants between the two islands.

I think that this is one of the best places for a burger, especially on the Island. We have been coming here for many years, since I was a child. They recently moved to a bigger location and its much better. It has more seats and wider space. The burgers are really good. You can customize your burger or chicken or veggie patty to however you like. There is a huge list of toppings that you can put on the burgers. They are very good at cooking it to your liking. We usually split the fries and onion ring basket. Its large enough for the whole family, if you get the large basket. They also have milkshakes, which are wonderful as well. There is probably close to a 100 different combinations you can get. I really don't ever remember sending my food back, which is an A plus in my book! If you order the pound burger and finish it they take your picture. They also have some merchandise you can buy. I bought a tee shirt last year and happened to wear it this year when we went back and my soda was free for wearing the shirt. They do have other restaurants around the country but the one in Sanibel is the original. I think its the best. Definitely a place to go especially if you have children. Lunch and Dinner seem to be the same price so you can go at either time. We have never had to wait but last time when we were leaving there were a couple of people waiting for dinner. We usually do lunch out when we are there. Try it, I know you will like it!

Stopped in for lunch today, must have been an off day for them. The burger was ok, the bun cold and soggy. The fries were a huge disappointment huge basket but lukewarm, limp and obviously pre-fried. On the plus side, no wait and the chocolate malt was amazing - just as I remember them from when I was a kid.

After reading the reviews on here, we decided to try it ourselves since the reviews were mixed. There was a 40 minute wait for a table on Saturday night at 6pm. We waited about 10 min for our server to take our drink order. Since we had so much time, we ordered our meals at the same time. We waited 20 minutes for our meal to come. Seems about right for a place like this. We had bacon cheeseburgers and loaded fries. The burgers were excellent. the fries were good but the cheese was more like cheese for nachos than for fries. One thing I did see that did not effect us was another server standing up front messing on her cell phone. With the place being that busy, I'm sure there was something she should have been doing other than that. Hope this helps.

  • David E.

This place is cool. Has a 50's vibe going on. The service was so-so.....probably could have been better.....would have been 5 stars with better service However, we went for the mouth watering cheeseburgers. Made to order cheeseburgers with all the toppings you can imagine. Make sure you get a basket of onion rings, french fries and a milk shake. Well worth the visit and should be on the list of places to eat when on the island!

Our third visit to Cheeburger, and must say it's really gone downhill. We were there at about 5:00 for dinner, and waited about 5 minutes for someone to greet us at the hostess table. Our waitress didn't come by for another 10 minutes. When she did, she first stopped at a table of 2 young girls near us with the change from their tab. As she gave it to them, we overheard her tell the girls that they're supposed to tip their server! We ordered our drinks, food and a shake. Our waitress was obviously busy and impatient. Another 10 minutes passed, and the couple in line behind us were already eating their burgers. Took my fidgety daughter for a walk around the restaurant to pass time, and saw our waitress eating dinner! She saw us and got up to get our drinks. Another 5 minutes, and we got our very melted shake. The burgers were cooked well done, and we ordered medium. Fries and onion rings were plentiful and warm, but not hot. Due to the limited kid-friendly dinner options on the island, we may return next time were on Sanibel. We'll just have to keep expectations low.

Don't be fooled by their website if you are gluten free. This location does not have gluten free buns like their website suggests.

The burgers here are pretty good. I had their Serious burger but the Double Chocolate Malt and Deep Fried Mushrooms were the real stand outs. Overpriced though.

  • Sarah M.

We went here on a slow night, with hardly any wait-there were lots of empty tables. The food options are what you would expect from a burger joint-endless burger toppings, sandwiches, etc. I was surprised by their vegetarian and vegan-friendly options, something you don't normally see. My husband had a burger, and I had the portobello Swiss melt. Both were delicious, and we loved the fries and onion rings as well. Their shakes are also good-they come in so many flavors! We had two Maltese, and they were yummy even though it was freezing outside. Service isn't the fastest, but they have bunches of old Trivial Pursuit cards on the table to distract you while you wait. Decor is awesome-we felt like we'd stepped onto the set of Grease! All of the waitresses were really friendly and attentive as well. Prices weren't bad either, compared to the rest of the island. We'd go back.

    (4)
  • Mike G.

We both had semi burgers and they were pretty good, but not in 5 Guys League But the fried pickles were outstanding! Service was pretty good and manager chatted with us and was cool. Would go back just for the pickles and would have a shake.

  • John B.

I can sum this place in seven words: Tons of toppings for your frozen food. The burgers are made from frozen patties, the buns are frozen, fries were made from frozen, the grilled chicken was made from frozen. six of us ate lunch for our first and last time there and it was over $100.00. The stars of the menu all involve Ice Cream When I pay for food in full service restaurant I want fresh food.

  • Tom H.

What a huge disappointment. Last time on sanibel 1995. Waited all this time to find out the place had moved, which is fine, but also has become the most bland and vapid burger place I've been to in years. Burger was greasy, underdone and the bun was stale. Atmosphere was boring and lifeless. Service was slow and staff acted like we were interrupting their day. I could list at least 100 other better burgers I've had. Do not bother with this has-been.

This place is horrible. Its run down, carpet, walls, tables and chairs are all dirty. In fact someone left their gym back in the front entrance that we had to walk around to get to the hostess stand. The food was horrible. The burger had no juice, it was overcooked and the fixings were less than fresh. The place needs a completely makeover! Anyone that posts this is the best burger around has never been to Fuddruckers and Red Robin just to name a few. If your name on the outside of the restaurant says Cheeburger, you better be darn good at what you do.

    (1)
  • Dave S.

Slow service, reheated fries, flavorless burgers with skimpy toppings. Seems like your standard tourist trap, and it is. Salad was ok. Avoid if at all possible.

  • Molly W.

Not gonna lie. I wanted to eat here because of the name. And it was still good. We've passed this restaurant numerous times over the past several years. Chalk it up to what I find to be difficult-to-find signs on Sanibel. We were actually a bit disappointed it took us so long to find the place, because it definitely became one of our favorite restaurants in the area. Because we had an afternoon of activities planned, I was a bit hesitant to step out of my comfort zone and ordered a regular old cheeseburger. It didn't disappoint. My husband created a blue cheese, buffalo sauce, and coleslaw burger. It looked gross, but he said it was great. We passed on the shakes, but did split an order of sweet potato fries. This place appeals to probably everyone, since you're faced with so, so, so many choices -- you can keep your burger simple or you can go all out. Make sure to add it to your Sanibel list.

Another Nostalgic favorite leftover from childhood. I remember it in its' old location, too. But I still make a stop every visit to the Islands. The burgers and buns are good and fresh (and even huge, if you get that "pounder") and the fries and rings are better than average. Their Milkshakes are good and big enough to share, too. You can get your photo on the wall if you finish their huge burger. So that's cool. It's very casual, fun for the kids, and great to stop for lunch while riding your rented bicycles around Sanibel. Their gift shop has tee shirts, hats, stickers, etc, which, let's face it, is free advertising and propaganda, but still fun. I'm loyal since I've been going to this location for over 30 years.

  • Colin E.

Come here for a burger in a family-friendly enviroment. Decent service at best, but not bad service. Choose the size of your burger, the type of bun, the cheese, and the toppings. Also has salad, chicken sandwiches, fries, onion rings, kids menu. If this is what you're looking for this place is it. Encourages gorging on their 20-oz burger--if you finish it all, they take your picture and put it on the wall. Note, they cook everything to order so, even though it doesn't take long, it takes a bit longer than you might expect, but it's pretty good.

Came here 4/25/12 after bicycling thru JN Darling Preserve. Great follow up to a great day on wheels! Huge burgers, great shakes, great atmosphere! It was so big I couldn't finish it in one sitting. Fab sweet potato fries. The shakes are the absolute best!!! Can't wait to return.

  • Mark L.

The hamburger was very good. The onion rings were chewy. I prefer crispy. The fries should have been better. The milkshakes were extremely good. I loved how you can choose from a ton of different toppings for burgers. And the variety of create-your-own shake ingredients was unbelievable. It's all about what YOU want. The service was very good. The restaurant design is interesting and the atmosphere is tacky, but kind-of cool. It is what it is. Damn, I wish the rings and fries were better.

    (4)
  • Rachel G.

With limited options on Sanibel, this will satisfy your burger craving. The atmosphere is fun. The fries are to die for (ask for them extra crispy). The shakes are good; I'd recommend the Oreo cheesecake. The only problem is the quality of the burgers. Not so good.

    (3)
  • Laura R.

Cheeburger is great! A fun atmosphere, casual, and I love the Trivial Pursuit cards at each table. The burgers are as good as they get and how can you beat any and as many toppings as you want! The fries are fresh-cut, my favorite kind, and the huge list of different types of shakes - you can't go wrong picking one. I always get the smaller size shake and it's still a lot. I can't speak to any of the other food on the menu, but if you want a good burger, fresh fries, and/or a yummy shake - this is the place.

Whenever I want a all natural Cheeseburger I only go to one place. The Cheeseburger, Onion Rings and French Fries were incredible. After your meal don't forget the desserts or milkshakes. We always enjoy Cheeburger Cheeburger on Periwinkle.

It was a lot of waiting, but amazing chicken fingers for the kids (their review) and decent burgers. The diner atmosphere was cute, kids enjoyed it.

Burgers are ok. Lots of topping selections (like feta cheese). The food is not outstanding. There is '50s memorabilia on the wall. If '50s junk is your thing then go check it out, but then leave really quick and just go to Dairy Queen.

Wow! The selections for toppings is crazy big. If you can think of it you can have it on your very juicy and tasty burger. I like the 50's decor. And, yes I managed to polish off the one pounder;) YUM!

How can I give a bad review of a place which has my picture on the wall?!? Amazing burgers that you can build yourself. Just pick the size of the burger, then your cheese of choice, then all your FREE toppings. (There are dozens to pick from!) Plus, build your own shakes! How could you go wrong??? They have somewhere in the neighborhood of 75 flavors to choose from with 378,000 possible combinations. I got a peanut butter-chocolate-banana shake, each time we visited. I was on Capitva Island with my boyfriend and our good friend Derek in 2007 for a week and we ate at Cheeburger Cheeburger 3 times!!! Also, if you eat the "Pounder" (actually 20 oz) you get your picture on the wall. They also have build your own salads- something I will be trying the next time I visit a Cheeburger.

It's a good burger, customized how you want. Not much more needs to be said.

It's good! A little expensive but a lot of fun. Burgers and fries are delicious. Waitstaff is friendly and efficient.

The place is a little run down and the service is mediocre at best, but the food is really good. Not a place I would drive to go to, but will work for a burger after the beach.

Cheeburger Cheeburger is a fun looking, colorful place on the main drag of the island that boasts about amazing cheeseburgers and shakes/malts. Since my friend and I didn't feel like getting dressed and looking civilized to go to dinner (damn those hangovers!) we decided to pick up some food to go. I was especially pleased that you could order online - I generally avoid speaking to people if I don't have to ;) We placed our orders online and our food was almost ready when we got there. We both got cheeseburgers, and let me just say, the possibilities for toppings were endless - thank god we were ordering online, because I think it took both of us about 5 minutes to decide which way we were going to go with our burger. We also decided to split a large order of fries & onion rings. Our food would have been much better if we had dined in - the drive from the restaurant to our house was about 15 minutes, and the food had unfortunately cooled off significantly. My burger was ok, pretty big as I only ate half. But part of the reason I only ate half was because all I could taste were PICKLES. UGH. I ordered cheddar cheese & bacon on my burger, and instead of bacon, they put pickles. How you confuse pickles with bacon is beyond me. Pickles gross me out more than anything I know, and that taste was kind of melted into my cheese. Not good. The highlights for me were the onion rings, fries, and my delicious malt! Fries are made with the skins on, they had a nice flavor and were cooked to perfection. Onion rings were nice and crispy, perfect texture. I got an oreo chocolate malt, which was SO good. Crushed up Oreos were blended to perfection, and I easily finished the whole thing. The shake and malt combinations are also endless, there's basically a million things to choose from, so good luck with that. I don't think you can go wrong with their shakes and malts!

I cannot tell you how much I regret eating here on our second day (actually first full day) of vacation. Our party of five included one grandpa, two parents, and two children ages 2 and 5. We chose this spot because it seemed like the most kid-friendly place nearby. Our server was, in fact, very cool with our kids, and the kids loved the cardboard cars they were given while waiting for their food. Unfortunately, that's where the positives end. I ordered the portabella burger, which was mediocre. I'm always glad to see that non-meat option on a menu, but again, disappointed that it wasn't very good. Grandpa and dad agreed that their sandwiches were mediocre as well: both cheeseburgers. We all shared an order of fries which were nothing special. One kid had a grilled chicken sandwich which was probably the best thing on the table and it wasn't even entirely consumed! Go figure. All of that would have been fine, really; not a disaster. But, the 5-yr-old made the (nearly fatal) mistake of ordering the mini all-beef hotdogs. Within a few hours, he was complaining of stomach pains. He was exhausted that evening, but unable to sleep. He began crying and rolling around. He would sweat and doze for a few minutes to half an hour, and then wake crying again. At his age, he wasn't able to identify what was wrong with him, so I wasn't sure what he needed. At times he would say that he was hungry or thirsty, so I would bring him what he requested only to find him half-dozing again. When he woke after a few minutes, he would say he didn't want what he had requested, and had no recollection of asking for it. Finally, I began to realize he was doing some of the same things I do when I'm extremely nauseated and trying to sleep. Keep in mind, I was extremely tired myself or I may have noticed earlier! He was trying to find a position to ease the nausea, and having no luck. The only thing I could think to try for him was an anti-queasy lollipop I had bought in case of motion sickness on the plane or boat. The moment the sucker touched his tongue, he vomited all over the bed, me, and the floor. He continued vomiting over the next couple of hours, and once he had nothing left to vomit, the poor kid had dry heaves. He has never been that sick in his entire life. After carefully thinking through his last few meals, I realized it had to have been the hot dogs from Cheeburger Cheeburger. There wasn't a single other thing he had eaten in the previous few meals that one of the rest of us hadn't also eaten. None of the rest of us were sick. (Although a bit sore in the abs, he was fine the next day after sleeping in a bit, so it wasn't a flu.) This occurred three months ago, and he still brings it up and mentions how he never wants to eat there again! He actually brought it up tonight, which was what led me to write this review. I should have thought of it a long time ago. My kid had food poisoning, compliments of this establishment. Just to be sure I'm getting my point across, I will leave you with this fact: he threw up so violently that I had his vomit between my toes, in my hair, and everywhere in between. BETWEEN MY TOES. Proceed with extreme caution.

Was craving a real big burger and voilà! , the Cheeburger place. To kick things off , we ordered some milkshakes, I had the S'mores and it was amazing. Completely made my day. Our waiter tried to tell us that we would need a large basket of fries and onion rings ( of course sold separately than burgers) but we stayed strong, and what was he thinking? We didn't even make a dent- anyway our cheese burgers, which we "built" were perfection.Tasty meat, fresh bun, bacon, mushrooms... all wonderful. A very satisfying, simple meal. I'd go back definitely

Yes, this place was THE place to get a cheeseburger back before they moved. The new place has lost all its uniqueness. We've been three times, and, truly, the waitstaff seems completely disinterested. No eye contact, no friendliness. Bored with the tourists, I guess. Milkshakes used to be a glass and all the leftovers in the metal mixing cup, but now down to just the metal mixing cup. No corresponding decrease in price. Burgers are good, but not going back.

came here with my brother on a bike ride while we were in town. I would have given it 5 stars, but the service was not good. It wasn't very busy when we were there,either...so no excuse. Service aside, the food was excellent and very reasonable priced! I love that you can choose so many extras for the burger at no extra cost. It's got a fun atmosphere and I love that they have the trivia cards at the table to pass the time. If your here visiting, I'd highly suggest going, it's perfect for kids too....their meals come in a cardboard car, I even remember this from when I was real little and came here!

Worst place on the island in my opinion. We went for a late lunch and the restaurant was nearly empty, yet the service was extremely slow. Our waitress would appear at the tables around us, serve them and then disappear for lengthy periods of time. We would try flagging her down so we could order, but she didn't seem to notice us at all. After waiting on our check for at least 20 minutes, and considering leaving, we searched the restaurant for our waitress, who we finally found chitchatting in the kitchen. She never apologized for the bad service, and honestly I don't think she understood how crappy of service she gave us. Hopefully the $1 tip helped her understand! We are generally very nice people and always tip at least 20%, and this is one of the few if only times I have stiffed someone on a tip (the service was just that bad!) BTW, I had the veggie burger, it was so-so, I didn't care for the fries...

Our first time at CB CB, was at the old location - before Hurricane Charley, and we loved it. Now in it's newer location at the site of the old Pippin's restaurant, it is even more fun in the round! The burgers are great & the shakes are the best ever!!! And if your birthday is during your stay, be sure to let them know & celebrate in style!!!! Since CB CB is a chain & has expanded, we here on Long Island have one here in Farmingdale, but it doesn't have the feel of the Sanibel location. Great Food, Fun, Price, & you can't beat the location!!

I LOVE this place. I've been down in Florida for three winters now, and only recently had a go at Cheeburger Cheeburger. I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. I'm a burger gal through and through, and I've had burgers from Vermont to California, and a Cheeburger is in my top 5. Nee, my top 3. The beef is so flavorful, and I feel that's what makes this burger a winner from the start. There are about 30 or so toppings to choose from, about 5 of them you have a pay a little extra for (bacon, sauteed mushrooms, sauteed onions, etc), but it's worth it. My signature burger is topped with onion rings, blue cheese, sauteed mushrooms, bacon, and BBQ sauce. I'm practically drooling as I write this. The fries and onion rings are also very good, and you can purchase their fry seasoning in the restaurant. I think what I like the most about Cheeburger is that the ingredients are so fresh, and you can definitely taste that. My only zing for the place would be that the chopped garlic burger topping is garlic from the jar, not fresh chopped garlic. I personally don't like the taste of garlic from the jar, but my boyfriend always gets the chopped garlic on his burgers, so it's just a personal preference. I like the location of the Cheeburger on Sanibel, and the restaurant itself is a neat little building. There are a lot of windows, the ceilings are high, and it can seat a lot of people. The staff is really good about pushing tables together to accommodate larger groups. I've always gone in the afternoon and there was only one time that I had to wait for a table. I'm assuming that during peak lunch and dinner times that there is a wait. Oh, and their shakes...DO NOT miss out on the shakes. Divine! There are over a million shake flavor combinations here...the sky is the limit! Cheeburger Cheeburger is a national chain, so if there happens to be one in your area, check it out! You won't be disappointed. :)

As my 10 year old son stands over my shoulder watching me type, he says: "overall awesome, best malts ever!" I won't re-explain what they do at this restaurant, their name should set your expectations and others here have done a fine job of describing their build-your-own-burger concept. You don't go here for gourmet food, it's modeled after a '50's era malt shop/burger joint and they've nailed it. Great for kids, good burgers, and as my son stated: best malts ever. Worth a visit or two every time we are on Sanibel, they have earned their spot as an island tradition.

Been going to this place for at least 15 years. Burgers, fries and milkshakes....good food in a good atmosphere. Try it for yourself and let us know your review. We went on Monday 11/22/10 and ordered burgers, fries, rings and milkshakes. The food quality was the same as usual....good. The atmosphere was good and everyone enjoyed themselves. We spent right at $100 for 5 people. CBCB is a place we go everytime we come to Sanibel and we will continue to honor that tradition.

I believe this is the original location. And it rocked. Was there on spring break in April 2005. Rocking burgers, amazing shakes, great fries, and cold beer. Long wait at spring break, so plan accordingly.

Good hamburgers with whatever you want on them. Their fries have very nice seasoning and they have MANY different kinds of shakes. Fun place to go with the family too! They have trivia cards on the table while you wait.

BIG, BUT NOT GOOD BURGER. Lots of frills, toppings, choices, but not a tasty burger. They have hostess explain the concept to each table, so it takes a long time to get seated. Do you really have to have someone explain the concept of a cheeseburger with toppings?

Filthy chairs ripped and the chrome has dried food on them Filthy stained carpets Server had no eye contact and seemed to be doing his job cause he had to! The burger was just ok This place needs a do over big time! The vinegar and oil for salad was brought out nearly empty and covered with grease! It had globs of dust clinging to it and on the metal basket it was in! We will never go back there again and we will make sure to tell our friends! So many other better choice to make on Sanibel... Don't waste your time money for this place!

Yup yup, got my picture on the wall down there in Florida - well, its no longer on the wall but in some photo album in the back room ( your picture is only kept up on the wall for that week I believe ). Burgers were tasty - could have had a 2nd one but didn't want to have others yelling at me for being a pig. :-) Not sure if I'll be back to that island again - will have to find another Cheeburger place somewhere.

Cheeburger Cheeburger, as far as I'm concerned, could probably garner pretty decent reviews from it name and slogan ("Big is better!") alone. Sure, it's a chain, but solid burgers, atmosphere, and prices nonetheless. I think my favorite part of CC is the inflated weights of standard measures that they use -- the one pound burger that gets a photo of you on the wall is actually 20 ounces, the half pound burger is 10 ounces, and the third-pound burger is 7 ounces. That's like 25% more beef per pound than anywhere else! Also a highlight: unlimited free burger toppings - you can pile more on there than is reasonable or even good and they'll add it all on with a smile. Guacamole/onion ring/bbq/cheddar/jalepeno/onion/ranch? Why the hell not?

  • Garret H.

Good variety of burgers. Oldie's on the radio. A very spacious 'circle' with only a few seats.Lots of "Royal burgers' on the menu. Many different flavoured shakes. Friendly staff. Don't forget about the tollbridge. We ended up here because we couldn't find anything (?) on the island with an ocean view (bummer). Funny quote in the big boy's room; i took a tinkle on periwinkle.

Kind of gross ... good for kids and if you like monstrously greasy burgers and shakes ... fries were totally inedible (as voted by our table of 6)

  • Jeffrey G.

The menu was creative with lots of cheeseburger topping and a full page of milk shake choices. The milk shakes were great, but the food was awful! My cheeseburger came without the cheese, my sons cheeseburger had to be sent back twice to get it right and all the "medium" cheeseburgers were well done. Finally our order of sweet potato fries and no sweet potato fries.

I love this place. Yummy Burgers, onion rings and malts. They have tons if toppings for "build your own burger." So many shake/malt combos it will blow your mind. Great eats after a day on the beach! Get one of the dipping sauces. The cheddar cheese goes great with the delish onion rings.

I love this place. For some reason we were on vacation in Florida somewhere that wasn't Sanibel, and we literally drove for three hours to find one because we liked this one so much. The collector cars are cute, and great if you get a kid's basket. The milkshakes are amazing- I never order shakes at burger places because I get so full, but here it's worth it. Huge numbers of different flavors- the oreo is particularly good. The onion ring loaves, fries, and of course burgers are not to be missed. Try an unusual flavor combination! This is always incredibly satisfying, and I'm not even much for red meat. Definitely order a small burger so you'll have room for everything else! Of course, that is, unless you want to be on the one pounder wall of fame.

You know what to expect by the name, however our family loved the food because the burgers, sandwiches, shakes, and salads are all highly customizable with tons of options to choose from. Onion rings will stop your heart but worth it!

PB&J Milkshake is AWESOME!!! I would have given them 5 stars but the service was REALLY SLOW considering they were not that busy! So, don't go if you're in a hurry. Besides that; the food was great! One of the better burgers I've had in a while.

We have been coming for years and years. It's our first stop when we get on the island. I'm not sure if it's the fact that we have just gotten off a plane and are starving or if it's just that great of food. I love the fact that it is always made fresh. So yummy!!!! Definitely worth it.

  • Dan M.

Stopped in on a recommendation from my friend. Food was awesome! Service was friendly, but slow and got part of our order wrong (thence only 4 vs. 5 stars). Burger options are only limited to your imagination. My wife enjoyed an old fashioned root beer float (which was so good she was speechless, note to self get recipe, lol). Seriously, great food, fun atmosphere. If your a burger lover, you will love this place.

Been fifteen years since I have been to this iconic restaurant on Sanabel Island. After a wonderful bike ride, we stopped in to grab some lunch. We were seated quickly in what only can be described as one of the least eclectic restaurants on the island. There are at least three different themes going on here: diner, ski chalet and your grandmothers kitchen. None seem to quite work. The space isn't used well, nor does it take advantage of the window space. Anyway, we weren't there to look out but to eat. Our waiter was new (we hope) which would probably explain the slow and forgetful service. The whole menu can be a bit overwhelming and there are extra costs for flavored ice tea or lemonade and dipping sauces. However, the burgers are knock down great! (only better ones up in Keene NH). Go ahead, load it up. I had the regualr fixings and banana peppers on mine YUM. My son got guacamole along with his toppings and my husband went all out with mushrooms and bacon on a classic cheeseburger. Don't pass up at least one of the dipping sauces. We got the horseradish one and it was great. Little heat and just enough flavor to keep you dipping. We were pleased with the meal but had to wait for refills on drinks. Never got an offer for water, and with all this spicy, salty food you really need the drinks to come in something bigger than there signature jelly jar mug. Will return..

I just couldn't get into the burger. IMO it just didn't have the texture of real hamburger. As someone else previously described, it was kind of meat loafy. Fries were ok however and the service was good. When I was there it was really slow, so that made a for a nice experience despite the goofy burger texture.

Love this place! The burgers are great and you can get anywhere from a kid portion to a 1 pound burger (maybe bigger). Went here on Christmas Eve and got the Serious burger with the gingerbread shake. Both were excellent and put me out for the rest of the day:) Wife got a burger with less meat and the candy cane shake. She couldn't finish it so I stepped in and cleaned up the rest...which put me out for the rest of the day:) Glad there is a beach nearby bc we went there and I passed out on the sand bc I was so full. I highly recommend this place, esp. if you are are big eater.

    (2)
  • Andrea C.

Thanks

    (5)

Great burgers! They even have gluten free rolls/buns. Portion sizes were generous too.

Burgers. As big as you want. Fried stuff. Milkshakes. Ok service. Good enough for vacation and the kids so fine by me v

Order the onion rings!!!! Yum yum! Burger meat could use some seasoning. Make sure you add the seasoning mix that's on the table where it tastes like something!! Very family friendly! The flavored soda was also good!!

I loved it. Yes its a chain, but for beach food it's the way to go. The sweet potato fries weren't worth it, but we loved the onion rings, regular fries, and our burgers. You definitely want to go at least once! We had great service and had great company with the King - Elvis at our table.

Poor management. Pretentious burger place. Most of the restaurant was empty on a Saturday lunch yet they still wanted to make us wait 30min for a table and gave us attitude.

We both had semi burgers and they were pretty good, but not in 5 Guys League But the fried pickles were outstanding! Service was pretty good and manager chatted with us and was cool. Would go back just for the pickles and would have a shake.

  • Lisa F.

Burgers are ok. Lots of topping selections (like feta cheese). The food is not outstanding. There is '50s memorabilia on the wall. If '50s junk is your thing then go check it out, but then leave really quick and just go to Dairy Queen.

    (3)
  • Gary B.

Wow! The selections for toppings is crazy big. If you can think of it you can have it on your very juicy and tasty burger. I like the 50's decor. And, yes I managed to polish off the one pounder;) YUM!

  • Lacey B.

  • Ann S.

Proceed with extreme caution.

came here with my brother on a bike ride while we were in town.

Good variety of burgers. Oldie's on the radio. A very spacious 'circle' with only a few seats.Lots of "Royal burgers' on the menu. Many different flavoured shakes. Friendly staff. Don't forget about the tollbridge. We ended up here because we couldn't find anything (?) on the island with an ocean view (bummer). Funny quote in the big boy's room; i took a tinkle on periwinkle.

Kind of gross ... good for kids and if you like monstrously greasy burgers and shakes ... fries were totally inedible (as voted by our table of 6)
