We were very excited to finally be able to stay here as they are always sold out. We were very disappointed with the quality (or lack of) the rooms especially for the price. The bathroom needed a serious remodel never mind being cleaned thoroughly. The bar was great and the food very good at the restaurant.

Stopped in for a couple of drinks and a bit to eat. Drinks were really well made but inexplicably, the kitchen was closed.

We came for brunch on 11/02. I had the spinach and Gruyere omelet; hubby had the sausage gravy and biscuits. My omelet was great ($8), but a side of fruit or something would have been nice. HIs dish was huge! Four giant biscuits smothered in a darker gravy than I'm used to in this dish. Very flavorful on both of ours. Good service. Lovely dining room, very, very clean. My Bloody Mary was good.

Very cool old old hotel. I mean 1800's old. They said it's one of the oldest hotels around, that's been a hotel since it was built. They say it's haunted. Neat bar area, lots of stained wood with a old bar charm. Doubt I'd stay here, but it's a neat place to visit.

Old hotel showing its age & run in an equally decrepit fashion, whatever charm it may have had long gone out to sea, however decent barroom & reasonable prices, so worth a visit at cocktail hour for a drink but clear out after the 2d drink.

My fiancee and I spent two wonderful nights here this past weekend. This was my second time staying here and wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting Apalachicola. The staff was extremely friendly and the manager upgraded our room when we checked in. The bar is very relaxed with delicious specialty cocktails as well as a good selection of wine and beers. There is a great porch that wraps around the hotel with lots of Adirondack chairs, perfect for enjoying your drink of choice. We had dinner in the hotel our first night and the food was delicious, paired with great wine selections. Apalachicola is a small, quiet town, and the hotel is located in the heart of the town, making it an easy walk to other shops and restaurants.

My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. We had a nice room on the third floor. I loved the old feel of the building and the large porch with plenty of seating for socializing. It definitely had that "Cheers" feel in that everyone was there to chat with everyone else. I guess that's also a small town southern characteristic. We didn't eat here or partake in drinks from the bar but we liked the accommodations and the proximity to shops and neighborhoods around town.

This is an old building with a lot of charm. Everyone was really nice and overall the facility was clean. There were a few odd things but what can you expect from a building created in 1903. If you want new and flashy go to a Hampton Inn. We had a great room and walked right out on the balcony to watch the cars drive by. The only down side is really nothing to eat here. It was to much like a bar. I think for a nice old building they could pull together some good food and really hit it out of the park.

A unique dining experience for the area: nice salads and veggies, good wine selection, interesting and delicious entrees. The space is beautiful with quite a bit of old-inn charm. Key lime pie was tart and tasty. Our waitress(Emily) was awesome: very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be back on our next trip to the area.

Ate in the restaurant, did not stay in the hotel. (We live near-by). We planned to eat somewhere else, forgetting it was a Monday night and our first choice was closed. We found the atmosphere lovely. It reminded us of New Orleans, with the white table cloths, wooden floors, and fireplace. Our service was great. Our food was very good. We loved the uniqueness of the menu options. I especially enjoyed my salad of roasted Brussels sprouts and beets. My companion raved about the clam chowder soup of the day, which had clams in the shell on top. Our bill was just under $80 with wine, salads, one soup, and entrees. We thought it was reasonable and will eat here again. Next time we will save room for dessert. The dessert menu was unique and sounded delicious as well.

I loved this hotel. We planned a vacation at the last minute, and they were very accommodating. This is a pet-friendly hotel in a very pet-friendly town. I'll start with the hotel in general, and then get into the specifics of the room. The hotel itself is a historic building that has all of the charm that should come along with that. The wrap-around porch is great for sipping beer late at night while sitting on a rocking chair and watching the world go by. The bar in the lobby is very cute and has a welcoming atmosphere. They offer a free continental breakfast in the morning that usually consists of some type of carb (bagel, donut, danish) and coffee. I'm not that picky about breakfast, so it works for me. We also really enjoyed the doggie drive-through window which provides complimentary "pup"corn for the dogs, along with water. The parking is on the street, but it's not New York City, you just find a space and parallel park safely for the night. The room was adorable. I loved the iron bed frame and the classic decor. There aren't high-end amenities (no microwave, no coffee maker, no refrigerator), but these are not things you would expect from a historic hotel. The room was clean, well lit, ventilated, and had lots of channels on the television! The shampoo/soap provided is also organic and all-natural, which pleased me. There is also something about having an actual key and not some kind of swipe-card to get into the room. We really enjoyed our stay here, and we will definitely stay at the Gibson Inn for our future Apalachicola visits.

My wife and I stumbled onto the Gibson Inn last year while on vacation and looking for a casual place to grab a drink. What a great surprise! It had the look and charm of a sophisticated upscale bar without all the pretentiousness. We jokingly referred to it as "Cheers"-like because everyone there seemed to chat with everyone else, including us. That's the kind of atmosphere that we love and the main reason we went back this year while on our annual vacation. Our return trip proved that our first visit wasn't out of the ordinary as it was just as friendly and welcoming the second go 'round. The Gibson Inn is now a permanent stop on our future visits to the Apalachicola area.

What a cool place. Going back in time. Located in the Oyster Capital of the United States. You find yourself in a small town with its own brewery and just fabulous restaurants. The hotel itself is quaint. A fabulous staff that learns your name quickly. Small intimate rooms. Outdoor porches surround the building. A wonderful place to socialize with family and friends. LAID BACK. The Beach Town, St. George Island, is 10 minutes away by car driving over two magnificent bridges. This is a place to RELAX.

This was our first experience with a bed and breakfast type place (though this is truly more just an old hotel). The staff was welcoming and the room was clean. The porches were gorgeous and the bar area was a nice place to grab drinks with a local, old-time feel. The bed was soft and super-comfy. It was also fun to have actual keys to our rooms! The cons: Free breakfast was nothing to write her about. Subpar coffee, store-bought bagels. Bathrooms need a remodel- wished the sink was inside the room, etc. No deep sleep here, with the creaking floors and slamming doors. Overall, a fun experience steeped with history.

I ate there a few nights ago, with three other people. The food had a lot of flavor and the sweet tea was delicious. But for the price of the is kinda ridiculous. Portions are very very small. I would expect that in New York city not Apalachicola. I was very disappointed. But the hotel is pretty cool to walk around and see history. After all it's one of the oldest hotels in the state of Florida.

What can I say! Service was excellent! Food was excellent! Wine was excellent! I ordered a steak and it melted in my mouth no knife needed. My husband got the stuffed chicken with colored greens and also very tender no knife needed and flavor was excellent. Definitely 5 star dining in a fabulous adult atmosphere! In a historic building. So glad we chose here for our kid free night out!

We spent a day and night in Apalachicola for our 18th anniversary and wanted more than a run of the mill motel so we chose the Gibson. It was just what we had hoped for. Not a cookie cutter facility where everything would look the same no matter what city you were in but a historic place with its own character. Our room was very clean and more than large enough for the two of us. It had the standard amenities of a desk, tables, chairs and an armoire for clothing. Other reviews have griped about it being noisy but we didn't find that to be the case. There was some sound from people going up/down the stairs but it was not excessively loud and the only time we heard any outside street noise was once or twice when a very loud car or motorcycle passed by. The lounge was nice and had bar snacks during Happy Hour. The veranda surrounding each floor was a nice touch and a good place to relax with a drink. Coffee, tea, orange juice, yogurt and various pastries were in the lounge to start you out with a light breakfast. If you require an in room fridge, coffee pot and microwave this isn't the place for you but if you want a lovely place to relax it's just the ticket.

What a beautiful old world hotel, wrap around porches, old ornate woodwork, and history on every wall. Every one there was very pleasant and friendly. We had great service. Our room was small by today's standards, but exactly what you would expect for the period. They do a great job keeping everything decorated as it would have been right down to the quilts on the beds. We are traveling across the country and have stayed at much more modern and more expensive hotels and The Gibson Inn has the most comfortable bed by far.

The good news: Very good customer service and the price was fair. Can't beat the location and I like the wraparound deck. The bad news: the creaky wooden floors wake everyone up and the walls are paper thin. This isn't the place to get deep sleep.

Great location within walking distance of shopping and restaurants. The rooms need a little upgrade and we could not connect to wifi in our room. The walls are thin and the street noise kept us awake all night. The restaurant had closed the week before our arrival. Had we known these facts we would have stayed elsewhere. The price is reasonable but no bargain considering the inconveniences. We checked out other accommodations and will stay there in the future.

Gibson Inn is one of the few remaining grande old wooden structure hotels left overs from the early 1900's. Actually, 1901 to be exact. It's well maintained, neat, clean, friendly and just being there takes your imagination back to an era and time you've read about, heard about, but never experienced. Staying at the Gibson is about as close as one can come to experiencing those days. The lobby is huge, the bar is grand, the and staircase to the upper floors wide. There are no elevators as in modern structures, but there are porches all over the place, huge porches with rocking chairs, both on the first and on the second floor. Just sitting back, rocking the time away with a cool drink in the heart of Apalachicola is a unique and different treat. The other good thing about the Gibson is its location which is within easy walking distance to the oyster/seafood restaurants on Water Street.
