This us our second visit and we love this place! Lots of character! We came with 8 other couples, a few stayed at other places that are nearby. It's within walking distance to the downtown area and we enjoyed the live entertainment at the local theater. It was a Jim Croce tribute this visit. The House of Tarts is very clean, charming, comfortable, and has lots of history on the walls.

Great Oysters both on the half shell and Rockefeller. Also had the soft Shell Crab and it was good.
Nice easy going place. We went there as a family pretty early and they were ready for us. The ambiance is ok but who cares you're on vacation. We had a mixture of shrimp, soft shell crabs, fish sandwich and oysters. Everybody had a great meal but I thought it was a bit pricey for what we got. My only compliant is fairly minor - I ordered 1/2 dozen raw and 1/2 dozen of cooked oysters which arrived well ahead of everyone else meal - I ate my meal before everyone else and then watched the rest of the family eat. We'd go back but we'll try a bunch of other places first before we go back.
Been coming Papa Joe's over 10 years. Recently went there, found out they have moved. The new place has no atmosphere, reminds me of a typical lunch room, of course there again the old place had very little, except it was on the water. The service is a 10 ( on a scale of 1-10 ), the food of the same quality and portions are generous. I will come back every time I am in the area. Thank you to the great waitress we had that had been there over 10 years!!

We happen to walking by this little bar on the way to dinner. Their was a guy playing the guitar. He sounded great ( he got the star ) Now on to the beer. They have a decent selection of local stuff and others. We ordered up and enjoyed a nice cold one. It was 2 for 1 till 7 I think. So I decided to take them up on it. Sadly this is where the beer went down the drain. Ok, so I return to the bar to order, and the owner dose not want to pour 2 beers? Why you might ask? He wanted to give me beers in the glasses that we just drank from !! And made it very clear and even said " I just don`t want to wash another glass" Are you Frickin kidding me ?? I asked agin and got nowhere with this egotistical, lazy, wantabe bar owner. I`m not making this up people. How many times have you gone to a bar, had a drink, and the bartender pours you a new one in your old warn glass? We walked out stunned of the owners rudeness. He clearly dose not need our business, or yours.
Happy to say I'm the first to review of this awesome locals bar in Apalachicola. One of the coolest bars I've been in especially with the live music. It's an old machine shed redone with a lot of beers to choose from and complimentary peanuts you can throw on the floor. Love the location in historic downtown Apalachicola. Take a stroll through the downtown and stop in Bowery Station for a few beers and live music. Happy hour is between 5&7
We stopped in on 6/5/2014. What a treat. The locals were in chit-chatting about fishing and owners, Matt & Lisa, made us feel right at home. No meals but good cold beer and peanuts to crack. Looking at the shop shelves that used to be an old Ford repair shop was fascinating. They told us about a 17 yr old guitarist/singer that was going to be in playing for happy hour. We left, walked around town...... And went back !! The music was great and the place got crowded. Fun time. We'll go back next time we pass through Appalachicola.

Unbeatable espresso and pastry.
Cafe con Leche handled our larger group with aplomb, despite not being equipped with a giant dining area, not that we expected that from a little town coffee shop. They have a standard coffee menu, cute decor, and fantastic food. Various South American choices present an interesting set of choices different from the normal brunch items you would expect. The coffee was solid and the Arepa I ordered was just great. After tasting some other menu items from others in the party I would be confident trying about anything they offer.
Nice cafe with great food and drinks. The huevos rancheros and Cuban sandwich were excellent. There were plenty of other delicious things in the menu that I wanted to try. Check this place out, plenty of good food options whether your in the mood for a small pastry or full meal.

Up The Creek Raw Bar

Water front authentic seafood joint. I have been eating oysters for 30 years from NoLa to NYC; and these by far were the largest, freshest, sweetest oysters served RAW (I'll add my own fixin's thank you very much). The scenery from the patio seemed to make the oysters TASTE better? It over looks the swampy bogs where I assume many oysters grew up. They truly have any fixin's that you can dream of to TOP YOUR OYSTER! $11 per/doz (not the cheapest, especially considering the location), but still within reason. (Happy Hours in many cities across the U.S. offer $1 oysters) I was truly blown away by the experience. 1/2 the employees were quite nice. Remember, this is a town of 3,000 !!!! My wife had the grilled Mahi with one large hushpuppy(?)(kinda weird? I'm from the Carolinas-We Know Hushpuppies) and a side of deep fried GRITS BALLS-very funky and unusual, but recommended. Go to catch the Sunset!!
My fiance and I sampled 4 items from the menu here. All of the entrees were great. The calamari was average, a bit salty. The clam pasta was super good. Perfect balance of flavors with delicate, fresh clams & crusty warm bread. The crab cakes were great even with a heavy acidic tone. They had very little breading; lots of crab. They were accompanied by fried green tomatoes and 2 house made dipping sauces. (Both great) The star of our meal was the conch cakes. They were by far the best conch I've had. They had a mango-coconut slaw/sauce with small sliver of bell peppers and onion with them. I would go back for that dish. The only down sides to this place was the price is a bit high for the portions and the entrees were more like apps; in size and that they didn't come with sides. I would go back for the pasta & conch.
We went to Up the Creek with our family on vacation. Very relaxed place with cool atmosphere. We were given menus when we walked in and told to sit where ever we wanted - we headed outside and found a table for our party of 5. We quickly went inside after a youngster was having a meltdown outside and the parents couldn't figure out that he was yelling loud enough to make it hard for us to hear our own conversations. OK we're inside and all is well. When you order, you go up to the bar, order and tell them where you're sitting. OK - that's odd - fix your own tea, soda etc OR they will bring you the alcoholic drinks.... Odd. Our food was good. Not great - we had shrimp by the pound, bisque, crab cakes and fish tacos. Don't get me wrong - the food was fine but nothing to write home about and it was expensive. $20 for a pound of shrimp? They were huge but come on - you're on the damn gulf folks.... They tout themselves about all kinds of alligator - but they did not have any when we were there but didn't say why. I doubt we'd be back but who knows.

The BEST seafood we had while on vacation in Cape San Blas, even if we had to drive about 45 mins to get to it. They had three fresh specials of the day, our party got all three and each was fantastic, we had to sample each other's food! Seriously some of the best service I've ever had anywhere.
So disappointed. I had the special - flounder with crabmeat and prosciutto and pesto cream sauce. What a gloppy concept. Flounder ok, crab meat unnecessary, sauce had little flavor - pesto? Really? - and no sign of prosciutto. On the other hand - nice earnest waiter and good salad.
We're in Apalachicola for a quick few days of break before the summer activities start. Got into town fairly late, so we looked for a place that would still be open for awhile, so as not to be rude to the wait and kitchen staff. We were a little taken aback - this is an upscale place, and we were NOT dressed for it. But nothing was said (or indicated) so we dove in. Mateo was so friendly and accommodating - it was a pleasure to have him serve us. He was so excited to tell us about the specials and he made them sound so delicious I changed my mind and ordered the stuffed snapper. The garlic and parm dipping sauce for the bread was a nice change of pace from the usual oil and herbs. Mateo asked about some of the extras on the salads, like "Would you like bleu cheese crumbles?" and immediately followed by saying he'd put them on the side for us. My sons both had the green garlic dressing, and it was also delicious. My wife had the angel hair pasta with chicken and sauteed vegetables. One son had the fried oysters and the other had the lump crab cake. All of us were delighted with our selections (and with the others as well). The portion sizes were just right - we were filled, but not stuffed. The sauces with each entree were really well-prepared and well-paired. All in all - this was an excellent meal, and a little bit of a surprise for "tourist town."

My family went here while on vacation, and we were SO happy we did!!! The atmosphere isn't fancy (just regular plastic tables), but the food is some of the best and freshest I've had. Do not leave there without ordering the oysters!!! We got the parmesan and one with bacon for an appetizer and they were SO good! Also the crab cakes were phenomenal. Also the tartar sauce was good on everything. I wish I could go back!
It's not fancy but if you're craving the best raw oysters you'll EVER put in your mouth, this is the place. We also had the fried oysters and the hush puppies didn't disappoint. The sauces were perfect and fresh and everything was served quickly and with a smile.
Definitely not a fancy place to eat but the food is totally awesome. The fried oysters are delicious. Very good atmosphere and the service is great too.

My daughter loves the gelato but expect the typical tourist trap of overpriced. Cute, quaint atmosphere. We try to go by whenever we pass by per my daughters request.
Fantastic. I had the chocolate and peanut butter fudge, and it was awesome. Ditto for the turtles and chocolate melt aways. Make sure you stop here if you are passing by. NOTE: Yelp has the wrong address listed. It is actually at 75 Market street.
Nice people, chocolate was expensive and disappointing. Sad because it looks good and the shop is nice. Too bad it falls victim to the tourist trap quality level so many places do which don't have to depend on return visits.

Restaurant was attractive, clean and cheerful. Service was great. The owner and both of the waiters were attentive and friendly. My husband had fried oysters with potato salad and fried okra. I had pizza and a house salad. The food was good. My salad was the best I have had in the area. We shared a giant slice of pea pickin' cake and it was amazing. It had mandarin oranges and pineapple and mounds of whipped cream. It was moist and flavorful. We look forward to having lunch here often and are eager to try breakfast as well.
Terrible!! I do not understand the positive reviews! It is medium quality food. Clean place, for sure. Disorganized. Food not good. Not tasty at all
The absolute hands down best place for breakfast in Franklin County. Good quality well prepared food served by people that care in a sparkling clean restaurant. I cant wait to try lunch!
