Verde Lea Market

Fresh, authentic, and great prices on Mexican food but has all types of good. Owner and staff so friendly and accommodating. Why eat at a characterless chain when this family market has it all. Five dollars got me 2 breakfast burritos and more than I could eat. Good beer prices too.
If you're traveling to the Verde Valley fair, remember me to one who lives there.... and kiss her carne asada torta once for me. For years I drove right past the Verde Lea never thinking twice about stopping at this small dirt-tinged white market with a weathered yellow sign and beer posters covering the windows. Since trying their carne asada torta and walking out with a pack of fresh homemade tortillas, I cannot go through Cottonwood without making a stop. This place is seriously a gem of the Verde Valley and all of Arizona for that matter, its one of my fav's in the whole state. Everything they have sizzled up on the flat iron and handed me has been delish. Burgers, tacos, tortas even a deli sandwich I bought was overflowing with tasty ingredients. So if you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping by and trying this unassuming, family owned joint. You will discover a hidden treat!
I love this place. They are know for their Torta which are quite delicious. Everything is fresh, like their homemade tortillas and salsa. I stopped in and had a #3 burrito the other day and it was as good as always. Friendly service too. I try to eat there at least once a week or buy a package of tortillas to go.

Great beans and fabulous Tortas. Blindfold your best friend drive around for hours and hours now pull into Food City parking lot in Cottonwood AZ. When you get inside Ralbertos take your friends blindfold off and tell him we are here for the best food in Mexico. Lol won't he be surprised when he finds out you never left Cottonwood.
Yummy! Cottonwood has a taco shop rivaling the best in Phoenix and Tucson. Ralberto's is in the corner of the Food City shopping center. The menu is similar to that of any other taco shop in Arizona. Atmosphere a big zero but you come here for the food. Chad had the Sausage breakfast burrito and I had the Taco, Tostada, Taquito special. All this for under $8. If you need to have a meat fried in the shell taco fix, this is the place. Thankfully (or maybe not) they don't have these in Arlington, VA. I'd be fat.

Visiting our mom here in Cottonwood and had a taste for prime rib. We were greatly surprised at the friendly service, very tasty food, cleanliness of the restaurant and restrooms, and just a pleasant atmosphere all around! Prime Rib was superb and the salmon ever better! Cheese bread a must have, well maybe not my waist but I was on a mini vaca and it melted I my mouth! Thanks for a great experience and a very tasty meal! We will be back!
Nice surprise to find a place like this in Cottonwood. I had the cod for Lunch, right size portion, excellent flavor, cooked just right, they serve it with a side of french fries and coleslaw. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Overall it was a very enjoyable meal.
yeah not a big fan. Not very good service. Felt as though they thought I wasn't a "local" so didn't need special treatment. Food is not that great for the price. Mentioned to wait staff about my concerns, all I got was a "sorry about that" they didn't notify a manager for us or nothing. Will most likely not try them again

I would give this place 5 stars, if it was bigger, & easier to get around. The tacos, are five star. Delicious! I had the shrimp tacos, & fish tacos. They were both some of the best I've ever had. I tried 2 of the salsas on the salsa bar. The green, avocado one is excellent, as well as one of the red sauces. They have the coke from Mexico, which I had never tried before, and I enjoyed it. Service was quick & friendly. I will def. be back!
The other reviewers were right, great food and good service. They have a little salsa bar with about ten different salsas to try which was awesome. Have the long glass pop bottles you see in Mexico.
Was in a hurry and it was close to where I was. Wanted something quick and easy for lunch so we ordered two cheese quesadillas and one can of coke. The bill was $15. Ouch! As we were waiting other people ordered and also had the same reaction to the price. The gal taking orders mentioned they had recently raised their prices. The wait was excruciatingly long. So much for saving time. What we got for $15 was four quesadilla wedges each. Next time it's Taco Bell bean burritos for $5.

Reviews:
For all us common folk, this is about as close as it's EVER going to get to having your own personal gourmet chef and in an atmosphere that probably could not be more intimate. Abbie's has a pretty simple menu with everything lovingly homemade using fresh (many organic and locally sourced) ingredients. The tiny home converted to a cozy little restaurant could not seat more than probably 20 inside and possiblY another 10 outside. We starTed with some delicious crab cakes served over corn. A plate of fresh veggies and bread also came out. These are not your Mom's veggies that you turned your nose up at when you were a kid: fresh raw green beans, yellow carrots and olives. Everything was fresh and crunchy and quickly devoured. Next was the organic mixed greens which came with organic romaine and a wonderful assortment of other gardenly delights served up with a baslamic vinaigrette. It was easy to be a good boy and eat all of my veggies on this particular night. My main was grass fed tenderloin perfectly grilled up medium rare and so perfectly seasoned there was not need for any kind of sauce or topping. But this was served with a dollop of the most heavenly creamy horseradish I have ever had. The tenderloin was also served with three spicy grilled shrimp seasoned with Moroccan cumin, red pepper and other seasonings which was delicious. Our bevvies consisted of some Arizona beer and a sumptuous Sangiovese also locally sourced. Our meal was too great to end at the main so we splurged and got dessert. My flourless chocolate cake was served warm with vanilla ice cream. I am NOT a fan of chocolate cake because it is usually dry and the chocolate used is crap. Not the case here. The cake is moist and has a nice hearty chocolate taste that melts in your mouth. The service is great and Abbie herself came out to see how we enjoyed our meal which we could not rave enough about. Her credentials are quite impressive and it was exciting to have the opportunity to be fed by someone of her experience and expertise. We left feeling completely satisfied with our meal, the service, the value for money and the good feeling that so many aspects of our experience resulted in supporting the local community. This is yet another gem that has popped up in the Verde Valley. One of those obscure places that folks on the East Coast will soon see on Food Network and make the trip here especially to eat at Abbie's. Definitely worth partaking in if you're going to be near Sedona, Jerome or Camp Verde.
The reviews or tips we had seen said "be prepared to wait" -- we mistook that to mean ...for a table. In fact, the tip is referencing your course/meal. The evening we went may have been especially unusual, as there was a patron that looked like a corpse, laying on the front porch waiting for the paramedics to arrive and, meanwhile, being tended to by the chef and front of house. It was unsettling, to say the least. Aside from remarks acknowledging it was really happening (and professing that it hadn't been a result of eating there), there was no accommodation made (complimentary glass of wine to take the edge off, etc.), which I thought was odd. But, we were there for dinner, not a handout. The food is cooked to order. Portions are small but reasonable and adequate. I had the duck. The meat itself was very good; however, the skin was not crispy in the slightest, and remained on my plate. Another thing we thought was odd: the dessert table which is a focal point when you arrive is absolutely tempting but it features -- uncovered -- the ACTUAL desserts. So, when our server said there were 2 slices of pie left after glancing at the table and then swiped them up right off the table to be warmed in back, it was kind of jarring. The pie was good. Unfortunately, the one-course meal ate up our entire evening (reservation was at 6:30 and it was after 8 before we were released), which kept us from visiting tasting rooms along Main Street as planned. For sure, there is a lot of pride and passion that goes into this place, and , given the time, I would consider a return.
Abbie is a lovely woman that really knows how to work with food. my wife and I went here with her parents and it was fantastic. It takes some time and definitely some money but it's well worth it. SUPPORT LOCAL!!!

Best bar in the Sedona/Cottonwood area. Came here on a Monday night and had a blast. The bartender was friendly and fast. We shot pool, played the jukebox and darts. The bartender was kind enough to loan us his personal set of darts when the customer sets were missing. There is a back porch sitting area that was comfortable and had a good setup including a foos ball table. They have a good selection of beer both in bottle and draft, as well as a full bar. The drinks were also reasonably priced. Don't waste your time looking elsewhere, this is the best place in the area.
Our cab driver recommended that we go here versus the Boom Room. At first we were a bit disappointed because we were looking to go dancing and hear current (non country) music. When we walked through the door, it was obvious that we were the only girls! This was a little odd. We decided to sit down and have a drink before we made a quick judgement - which was smart. This is a place locals go to. Lots of people playing pool and a live band singing classic country songs like Hank Williams and Willie Nelson. While it wasn't dance music, it was great! Everyone in this bar was very friendly. Drinks were pretty cheap! Try the jello shots... they rock! Later we discovered there was a whole back patio area that was really big with plenty of space for groups. A good place to watch games, have drinks and socialize.
Nice enclosed back porch with TV's and outside sitting area and horse shoe pit. Bar is on the small side but has 2 pool tables. There was a live band there when we went that wasn't bad. Not really western like we were hoping, more biker/older rocker types but it was OK

HORRENDOUS SERVICE! Every time I go into this cafe I encounter the rudest kinds of people working behind the counter. One bleach blond with tacky tattoos which appears to be the style for oddly enough non subversive, boring mainstream twenty something's but I digress. Awful service, mediocre food that is overpriced to say the least, their iced tea is good and that is the best thing about this place. Go to Crema much better customer service, people who look as if they are glad to see you rather than annoyed you came in and Cremas' food is excellent with a very kind owner. She always asks my mother what quiche she would like that week and then makes that recipe. And by the way Crema also has excellent quiche.
Great place. Loved the coffee and the atmosphere. The barista was super nice and made us an amazing on the fly (because they were low on supplies) frappe and it was awesome. We actually went back the next day when their supplies were back in stock to get another one. Definitely recommend.
Do you want a chill atmosphere? Do you want high quality coffee? A unique menu?? A nice patio with chill music?? If any or all of these are in your "needs bucket". I suggest you get on your horsey and head on over! In the week I was in Cottonwood I think I went here about 4 times. Atmosphere and coffee quality are everything to me... Don't fret you can enjoy both here with a smile!

Took my wife on Memorial Weekend 2015. We had a nice, perfect really, Chardonnay and the Filet and Lobster. Perfection on a plate! Savory tender and juicy Surf 'n Turf happiness. My wife stayed home on my last trip to Cottonwood, so after a 10-hour day of hard work, I decided that I deserved to try a nice, big, thick, juicy ribeye with all the fixin's, pomp and circumstance. Well, they didn't play "Hail to the Chief" when I walked in the door but even flying solo they gave me a nice booth and plenty of attentive service. Being that I was eating for two, I, of course, had a pre-dinner cocktail, a gimlet, perfect. Then a nice rich red wine with my steak, and a pear martini for dessert, perfect. The steak was perfection on a plate, thick juicey--with the right amount of char. The veggies were delicious and satisfying.
We just had a large family celebration (13 of us) here. I must say I was impressed with the ability of our server (Rene?) to handle all of us so well. The seating arrangement for a party this big is not the best - they really can only put several tables together down the center of bar but it's manageable. Our appetizers, drinks and entrees were served relatively on time and together. Somehow my bone in ribeye steak ended up as another beef entree which was very good I might add although I would have preferred the steak. Their chocolate Napolean pastries are extraordinary. I remain baffled and disappointed that this eatery which includes a reference to Italian in its name does NOT offer either espresso or grappa on its menu. I was pleased that they graciously accepted their mid week coupon special of buy one get one half off an entree which went a long way to keeping our tab in check. All in all , we had a very good time. Excellent food and drink and pretty darn good service considering the size of our party.
Nic's is one of the best if not THE best restaurant in Cottonwood. They have excellent food and a pretty decent bar too. I do wish they had more AZ wines (I only counted 2 on the list) since there are so many people who come to old town for the wine tasting rooms nearby. I came here with my husband a couple weeks ago and even though they were slammed they still managed to find us a table and the service was great. We both had steaks and both were cooked perfectly. Probably the best part of the meal was the clam chowder I had to start. I was born in Massachusetts and I have spent a good amount of time visiting the New England area and I can tell you that this was the best clam chowder I have ever tasted. Unless you have a shellfish allergy, you absolutely have to order the clam chowder. In addition to the steak and seafood items they also have some Italian dishes on the menu and they looked pretty good coming out of the kitchen so I'll probably be trying one of those next time.

We came to this place on a whim, having just left Jerome on our way to one of the local vineyards and in need of lunch. Our experience was surprisingly wonderful! We couldn't decide between brunch and lunch, so my fiancé had breakfast and I had lunch. Both were substantial, unique, and delicious. He had the huevos rancheros, and I had a southwestern quesadilla. Yum! We also decided to ask if they did catering, because we had not yet found somebody for our upcoming wedding rehearsal luncheon. Chef Michael came out immediately, very excited about the idea, and is now planning our luncheon with us, with great ideas and a lot of enthusiasm. We will check back in after, when we see how it goes. But for now, I definitely recommend this place for breakfast, lunch, or brunch!
Good food here, coffee is great! I would recommend this place for a quick breakfast or lunch. The Big Ol' Breakfast Burrito is big enough to share, other plates were good for one. All and all a good experience.
I am visiting Old Town Cottonwood from metro Phoenix. What a great experience, especially taking the advice of the locals to check out the Red Rooster Cafe. I am eating here for the 3rd day in a row. The staff is amazingly friendly and service focused. And the food and coffee is superb. You've got to try their breakfast sausage. It's got a little kick to it! The atmosphere has a Seattle feel to it. In addition to the indoor area there is also a fantastic covered patio area. Check it out...you're going to be glad you did!

Came in for breakfast before heading out of town. The $4.50 chicken fried steak breakfast special was more than enough food, if on the greasy side. The steak is probably frozen but it's not terrible. Hash browns seem to be freshly grated. They use real butter, which I prefer. Overall, decent but we wouldn't seek it out.
Me and my family stopped for breakfast and it was great. We had the breakfast special eggs, bacon, hash browns , and a pancake for under $5. Plus the service was great!
Great service but the compliment stops there. Very poor food preparation. Home fries were frozen and dry. Omelette was flat and over cooked. Something on the plate smelled of fried fish. Biscuit was dry and heavy. Will not be returning, obviously.
