Fresh, authentic, and great prices on Mexican food but has all types of good. Owner and staff so friendly and accommodating. Why eat at a characterless chain when this family market has it all. Five dollars got me 2 breakfast burritos and more than I could eat. Good beer prices too.

If you're traveling to the Verde Valley fair, remember me to one who lives there.... and kiss her carne asada torta once for me. For years I drove right past the Verde Lea never thinking twice about stopping at this small dirt-tinged white market with a weathered yellow sign and beer posters covering the windows. Since trying their carne asada torta and walking out with a pack of fresh homemade tortillas, I cannot go through Cottonwood without making a stop. This place is seriously a gem of the Verde Valley and all of Arizona for that matter, its one of my fav's in the whole state. Everything they have sizzled up on the flat iron and handed me has been delish. Burgers, tacos, tortas even a deli sandwich I bought was overflowing with tasty ingredients. So if you are in the area, I highly recommend stopping by and trying this unassuming, family owned joint. You will discover a hidden treat!

I love this place. They are know for their Torta which are quite delicious. Everything is fresh, like their homemade tortillas and salsa. I stopped in and had a #3 burrito the other day and it was as good as always. Friendly service too. I try to eat there at least once a week or buy a package of tortillas to go.

Cool general store in Cottonwood. Not only can you pick up tackle, drinks (including beer) and munchies, they have an awesome Deli with a good selection of sandwhiches which they'll prepare to your liking. They also have burgers, hot dogs, philly cheese, tacos, burritos, and tortas. They have tables and chairs inside where you can dine in or you can get everything to go. Great place to drop in for lunch, also great if you're fishing or hiking for the day-nice place to stop in for provisions. Doesn't look like much from the outside but definitely check it out.

Everyone of the locals rave about this place. I ordered an Italian sub and it was the soggiest and flavorful-less sandwiches I have ever eaten, I was discussed and could not even finish it. The store was dirty, filthy and there seemed like there were rodents in it... just by the atmosphere alone. The staff was friendly though. But I would NOT go back.

Wow! This place is really a dive! However, the food is to die for. We had the torta carne asada, and the burro de carne asada. The inside is very clean and the people are very friendly. If your in the area go out of your way to come here. It is fantastic.

Haven't eaten here, per se, but I have bought their tortillas on numerous occasions. These are definitely the best in the valley.

I've been all over the country. I've eaten the best of the best, Verde Lea is one if those. Bill, Alma and the whole crew are great! If what you're looking for is foodie snobs and an uptight atmosphere, don't go to Verde Lea. They're like family every single time we go. Its just a great small town joint with food that'll make you want more (and I'm sure if you ask they'll get it for you.) I speak from experience, I ate 5 Tortas once... So good. Thanks for living up to the expectations every single time guys!

Another Yelper acknowledged these reviews for garnering the willingness to try this and other establishments and I have to second that. Although I've lived in the Verde Valley for many years, I've never been to Verde Lea before. My wife and I finally dropped in for lunch yesterday and I'm glad we did. It may look like a Mom & Pop convenience market from the outside but once you step inside and see the full length deli counter along with the white board menus across their top, you know you're in for some good chow. I ordered Carmelos Tacos which were excellent - good sized portion of 3 tasty stuffed flour tortillas to which I added some of their homemade pico de gallo and fresh salsa. They have an endless variety of beverages and although you can buy beer you cannot drink it on the premises. This place is a classic example of not judging a book by . . . same for a neighborhood convenience market. It's so much more.

VERDE LEA MARKET is why YELP works. very, very unlikely we would have stumbled across this amazing, little mom-and-pop place without your collective help. special "shout out" to CHRISTINE R. since her daughter, BEEBIT, put the bug in my daughter's ear. if they threw the food at you as you walked in the door (framed with the many, many accolades on the wall), we'd be back -- everything was that good -- but BILL does an exceptional job of making you feel like you're a welcome guest in his home. charming, witty and engaging, i'd go back just to sip a HORCHATA and enjoy his company. one bite of my TORTA erased any skepticism i felt after reading your reviews. the CARNE ASADA was every bit as good as you guys said. we went early (a little after 9am) and already they were busy getting ready for the rush. after tasting their CARNE ASADA, it's easy to see why the lunch line is out the door. my wife had one of the breakfast burritos (eggs, cheese and bacon) and the kids had CARNE ASADA burritos (eleven-year old JULIANA, ever the purist, went straight meat and chess and nine-year old WYATT added bacon and avocado and minus-ed the veggies -- that threw the kitchen for a loop). we got back on the road and ate on the drive to CALIFORNIA. everybody in the front and back seats gave rave reviews. about halfway thru breakfast, just before we jumped on the freeway, we rolled passed a McDONALD's. i asked if anybody wanted to grab something to eat. i was answered with a resounding chorus of "NO's" ... lesson learned.

Oh my goodness - what a nice surprise!!! I ordered their Carne Asada sandwich loaded & got the hubby just Carne & Cheese. Both sandwiches were delicious and the bread is fresh baked! We ate this last Sunday while awaiting a rain storm to clear the area so the hubby could sky dive. Sadly, his sky dive was postponed until today. So, he asked if we could get a sandwich for our road trip home! What are you waiting for get in your car & head down there!

This is definitely a strange place; it's laid out in a way I have never seen before. It's basically a convenience store with a little fast casual restaurant right in the middle of it. The food is really good, the prices are reasonable, and there is a good mix of Mexixan and American food on the menu. Breakfast too! I had a burger, and it was just what I was looking for. They bothered to asked what temperature I wanted it cooked to, and even managed to cook it to that temperature. This is something most places in the area can't seem to manage.

Amazing tortas and fresh cut fries in an old timey store. Owner is a great guy. Will be back the next time in town.

Tortas are the draw. The carne asada torta is perfect in every way. This place is a time machine that serves great deli food. It will take you back 50 years to when food was real and real good.

I can't begin to say how wonderful this little hole in the wall is. I travel all over northern Arizona for work and always make it a point to stop in here when I am on cottonwood. The breads are all homemade each day. The burgers are always great! The tortillas are to die for and the hospitality is amazing! You guys do a great job!

We were looking for a restaurant for lunch and I checked on Yelp for the first time and came across this restaurant. When we walked in I wasn't so sure about it but it definitely lived up to the reviews we read. We tried the torta sandwich with fries and it was excellent! I believe Bill is the name of the person who works there and he actually followed us out and asked us how everything was and where we were from. If we are ever back there we will be sure to eat there again.

This is basically a convenience store with a grill. But oh the food they make! We had passed by this while driving into town and laughed because it looked like a small family run...run down...market. We weren't going to set foot in there until I read reviews on Yelp. We ventured in and was pleasantly surprised. Your typical convenience store items as well as beer and wine. They had a deli case filled with pre-made wraps and sandwiches. With so many pre-made they must be expecting a good business to sell all that. Sure enough, as I was looking over the menu, some regulars stopped in and all they had to do was give a couple of hand signals and the woman behind the counter knew exactly what they wanted. I asked if they sold tortillas and she said, "Just a second, I have one coming off the grill now". She gave me a freshly made delicious tortilla. I was sold! Who gives samples anymore? I then asked what Horchata was. Again, she gave me a generous sample to try. Yum! Horchata is a cold rice milk beverage. It tasted like liquid rice pudding. Delicious. We ordered a chicken Torta and a Carne (beef) Torta. Love the roll it was served in. Nice hearty sandwich. I bought a package of homemade tortillas that were on display at the register. I will crave these when we move on out of this area. They are wonderful. I'm using these tortillas to wrap all my meals with. Overall a friendly place with delicious food. There are also a few tables in the middle of the store if you want to eat in.

Based on other reviews, we got the frisco burger and a carne asada torta. Both were delicious. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the torta. Burger was $7.99; torta was $6.99. Chips and salsa were a bit overpriced at $2.99 for a small basket (especially since the salsa is basically free at the salsa bar), but even with all that and a small horchata we were still under $20. Not much in the way of ambiance and you can't consume alcohol, but I'd definitely go back for the food.

I've been eating here since I move to Cottonwood. Honestly one of the freshest most delicious places I've ever been to. Everything is made right in front of you, AND everything is AMAZING!! Best Torta I've ever had in my life! Also, the burgers are out of this world! On top of everything the staff is very nice and helpful! Been here many times and i'll return for sure! Thank you for everything!

Verde Lea Market is so unassuming, and just fabulous! As soon as I walk in the door I was made to feel welcome and everybody is so nice. I ordered a torta and oh my goodness, heaven!! the best sandwich in the Verde Valley by far!! it's a fun place to take out of town guests so they can get the real flavor of Cottonwood!

Sonora tacos were the bomb (do people still say that? LOL) Definitely a place for locals, or those of us who were lucky enough to have locals share their secret. It's half convenience store half restaurant and doesn't look like much from the outside. Menu has a ton of options. And Horchata? Yes please! I will be back! =)

Best carne asada I've ever had. The Tacos Camarones and carne asada torta are absolutely fabulous. The meat is flavorful and the flour tortillas home made. I shall crave this food. If you're in Cottonwood, do yourself a favor and eat here. Food is great and staff is courteous and enthusiastic about the food.

Thanks to YELP we stopped here for lunch. We were very surprised and left with our palates tingling with delight. I had a shredded beef chimi and my partner a carne asado burro. The owner was very friendly, the service prompt and the prices "muy barato". What we also enjoyed was the mini-salsa bar with two kinds of salsa (one muy caliente!) and the ensalada with cilantro, tomatoes, etc. There were also fresh sliced lemons and limes. Total Bill: $12 We'll be back!

This place is the best hole in the wall in verde valley. Their tortas are amazing... By no means healthy.... But scrumdillyptous!!!!!!

Torta! Don't miss it w/ a side of fries. In a word, outstanding. Only downside is they don't have a liquor license so can't enjoy a brewski w/ the amazing torta. Having the horchata almost makes up for it.

If you find yourself in Cottonwood this is the place for lunch. I work in Cottonwood and eat here 2-3 times a month. The food is consistent and fresh. The chipotle chicken sandwich is a must try if you can handle a mildly spicy sauce. They also have awesome burgers and a incredible torta.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
