We chose stir-fry bowls to go. The chefs cooked them on the grill with two sticks right in front of us. The hostess then packaged them up in to-go containers and let us go to the buffet to fill the rest of our box. The sweet and sour chicken was great. The chicken meat was actually white meat instead of the questionable meat sometimes found in other restaurants. We were quite pleased with our food. Tasted great and we could customize it however we wanted. We will come back when in the area.

I've driven by this place so many times in the years we've lived here and finally decided to try it. It was a weeknight and my wife, daughter and I stopped in. They were not busy. The BBQ make-your-own was fun and mine turned out well. The staff were helpful and gave us pointers. I should have stopped there. I tried some items from the buffet and they were greasy, soggy and salty. Overall the place could use a major facelift. After eating the bad food at the buffet, the worn carpet, the old posters on the wall, the rusty vents in the bathroom, etc., just creeped us out. I had a beer, so with tip, we ended up paying $50 for a meal we regretted.

I went here for a friend's birthday and I have to say that it was one of the best service experiences I've ever had. Lately, I have been torturing myself with this elimination diet, which pretty much makes dining out impossible. Needless to say, I wasn't ecstatic to go to a Mongolian buffet where the food is delicious, but prepared in a way that I wouldn't be able to actually eat it. I told the waitress right away what my dietary restrictions are and she said that it wasn't a problem at all! She told me to pick out my veggies and that she would steam them in the kitchen for me rather than having them sautéed. They also had a hot bar area where they served steamed rice. The other people that I was with all enjoyed their meals and everything smelled delicious. They had frozen meats that you could choose to have fried up, fresh veggies, and different sauces to choose from. Think HuHot, except more authentic. It was such an easy and pleasant experience. I will definitely come back when visiting Milwaukee.

This is easily by far one of the worst restaurants I've been to. Not only the food was tasteless, the food in the Buffett stations were so dry it was not possible to chew it. The garlic bread and the Mongolian bread could have used a wood cutting hacksaw. It was so dry. the vegetables in the BBQ section were stale, white mushrooms were black and spinach was droopy. We told the waiter that we needed to speak to the manager. she mentioned talking to her was as good as talking to the manager. We asked her why the food quality was so bad and the buffet station was so dry. she got defensive saying that we were late coming at 7:30 p.m. She also told if you don't like the food don't come back. we're going to take her advice on the face value and honor it. Amen to her attitude, amen to the food, bye bye to the restaurant. Spend your money somewhere else and try not to ruin your lunch or dinner.

Descriptive phrase: unassumingly-delicious Mongolian bowls. A large group of coworkers stopped in to Gengis Khan Mongolian BBQ for lunch for a colleague who was leaving. You've probably passed this place a million times on Highway 100 and never noticed it; what looks like a former fast food joint - turned Asian sit-down appears quite dated. The inside isn't much better decor-wise, but the food delivers. When you walk in from the private parking lot the first room features a small bar and some sparse seating. Most of the seats are in the second room, which is larger and houses the bowl-bar, the grill window, and the buffet. The lunch special gets you a Mongolian BBQ bowl and full access to the buffet for around $10. You'll get your fill, don't worry. You start by grabbing a ceramic bowl and filling it with meat. There are multiple choices, and you can have as much as you want. The only catch is you get one bowl and that's it. The meat itself looks like frozen, dried pork-rinds. It ends up grilling nicely and you'd never notice the difference. Follow up the meat with an assortment of veggies and sauces, as well as noodles or rice. Hand the bowl to the grill-masters and watch them work around the hot circular griddle. The buffet itself is pretty standard Americanized-Asian food, but the Mongolian bowl is a nice change of pace for lunch in the area. And the price isn't too bad. It's not top of my lunch list, but it's a solid addition to any rotation.

The best food I ever had, They have real Chinese food and taste Mongolian Bbq buffet, the service is wonderful, and I went to so many chinese restaurants, and I feel this one are so special, you make your food and add the sources you like, and then they cook fresh for you! Highly recommended.

It's very consistent in its quality. They seem to always be on the edge of being dirty but have found a way to always just being clean enough. However, that's the charm of this place. I don't disagree with the previous remarks about the lack of courtesy from the staff and owners. The biggest negative is that you are held hostage to whatever was cooked on the flat top previous to you. I use the same "formula" every time and depending on what was cooked before me it can be medium to eye watering hot.

MOUSE! Wow my husband and I used to love this place but today will def be our last time there. Just as we were putting our coats on to leave we both saw a mouse go running from right where they cook your oh so yummy food to the waitress station. Both of our stomachs turned and we instantly looked at one another in utter disgust. I can honestly say we loved this place prior but that was a bit too much for us :(

Went there for lunch with coworkers. Found a "below the border" body hair in my food. They made me pay for my meal. They also hand rolled (without gloves) spring rolls in the middle of the customers in the dining area. Unclean and not customer friendly.

Good food, But some of the staff comes across as grumpy and pissed off. It is also insanely dirty in places such as the bathrooms. I wouldn't recommend this as a family place either.

We've finally had it with this place. The food here is very average, but their aggresiveness to strongarm tips out of your change is just too much. We always left 15-20% for them in the past, but last time, they never came back to fill the water, so we didn't leave anything. Today, they kept our change from our bill, never brought it back to the table. I politely asked at the bar for my change, and the tall goon threw a fit about "you never leave a tip!, etc., etc.". The owner was there behind the bar but apparently cannot control the unstable giant working there. Well, for their attempt to steal $3 today, they will lose about $400/ year from us.

I have been driving by this place for years and never stopped in, today would be the day. The building just doesn't look like an asian place and I wonder what it started life as. I walked in and I was surprised that it was not your typical cheesy Chinese decor but actually nice looking with tall windows and white table cloths. The place is small with a bar like area where the cash register is and can someone explain the millions of pennies on top of it for some reason. The inside looked clean and had a buffet going which would explain the guy in the booth with monstrous plates of food on the table for one person, I thought before I saw the buffet that they have huge portions here and how could one man eat all that food on the table. I thought the dim lighting, white table cloths and high windows was kind of a cool setting. I was only in for take out but I did get some pictures. First off what happened to egg rolls since I was a kid, I got the tiny version with no protein in it and this seems like the norm now of days from everyone. The egg roll was mediocre like most and for once I would like to be blown away by a good egg roll. I opted for the Mongolian beef which is a personal fav of mine. I would have liked it to be hotter or spicier but it was good. The meat was that thin and tender, not dry or chewy Chinese style. I like that it was not over loader with onions so as to skimp on the meat in the dish. Overall the food was average, not bad but not spectacular. Will it replace my fav, no. Will I go back, yes because I drive by it all the time and out of convenience I would sample the menu. I like the place overall and it has a charm to it. I don't do buffets because I get stuffed quick and never eat a whole meal from a restaurant but I might fast and check out that buffet, it's been about 14 years since my last. Yes I will be back.

The cuts of meat are fatty, even the chicken. A good amount of the shrimp aren't de-veined. The prepared Chinese food is pretty poor quality (sitting there for some time, dehydrating and getting even more salty). The stir-fry service was an interesting novelty as was the ability to create your own sauce blend. The hottest sauce wasn't that hot. Meh. Best part is I could eat my fill. That's about it.

It's my nephew's birthday, July 31st he turned 12. He wanted to eat Mongolian BBQ. Thanks to the handy yelp app, we were able to find one nearby. I spoke with the host/waitress about his allergies to peanuts. She assured us that they don't use peanut oil, all we need to do is request that the cooks clean the grill. each time. We went for the dinner buffet. It was little over $10.00 a person, $8 for those under 9. They don't split tips, so we divided the tips for the cooks jar and waitress. I made 3 small bowls. The first two were great, the last one I did the same meat and vegetable combination as the first, but added garlic mixed with oil. It was too much for my taste, so live and learn. Overall it was fun to watch the food, and fun to pick your favorite foods. Next time I'm looking forward to testing my luck with mixing my favorite sauces. I think I overdid the garlic, *sniff-sniff*. Yup, I did. Food 4 Ambiance 2 The vaulted ceiling is nice but could use a remodel or update. the AC could be out or under powered. due to the hot griddle. The booths could be reupholstered. and scrubbed down. overall. Service 3 Location 3 Value 4

We started off shooting for Mexican at one of our old stomping grounds, but it was packed to the gills. So, we wound up back here. This always seems to be our stand by place. It was pretty slow. For awhile we were the only table in the restaurant. We both liked that we could customize our dishes. However, the frozen meat slices kind of freak me out. Chicken, pork or beef to vhoose from. Like the fresh vegetables: mushrooms, zucchini, sprouts, carrots, cabbage and onions. The sauces are good too. And they give suggestions. I liked the lemon and garlic. Cooks are a bit surly. Won ton soup was not very good at all. I didn't even eat it. The rest of the buffett= meh... Bourbon chicken was ok. The fried rice was kind of dull. Nothing too great and it didn't seem overly fresh. The fresh vegetables and meat were the best. It's a nice option for some freshly cooked mongolian BBQ. Service was good and our patronage seemed to be appreciated.

I go here off and on because I really have to be in the mood for this place in order for me to go. The Mongolian BBQ is okay although my only complaint is that they have a limited selection of stuff compared to other places like Flattop Grill or BD Mongolian Grill. The other prepared Chinese food can be hit or miss but I tend to stay away from it. Today, I went around 1:30 or so and there is probably only 2 people there. After I was done eating and was sitting there reading my book, one of the guys asked if I was done (to which I said yes) and he then hovered like he wanted me to pay. Seriously dude? There are 2 people in the restaurant and it's not busy!! leave me alone!!!!

  • Lisa A.

If the dude who runs this place ran flattop, there'd be no waiting 25 minutes for your food. He is keeping things moving--for better or worse. I'm one of the only people who likes the China buffet they offer better than the actual Mongolian bbq. It always has the same odd items. These odd little sesame buns. Sweet and sour chicken (read: chicken nuggets and sauce). Some sort of tofu dish. Shrimp vermicilli. Randomly, I'm offered a cup of hot and sour or egg drop soup. **most exciting thing: real tea drinks. Bubble, milk teas with all sorts of authentic add ins like coffee and grass jelly, boba, "pudding" (goggle it, kids) etc. The actual bbq is aight but to me its a bit salty. Still, this remains a popular lunch spot around mayfair for me. It's always busy so I'd say others feel the same

I haven't been to this place in years. Not because I don't like it, but because of the same reason I haven't been to a lot of restaurants...not enough time and not enough money to dine out for every meal every day of my life. Over the years, there have been new players like Stir Crazy, FlaTop Grill, and BD's, but Genghis Khan was doing this style of dining first in the Milwaukee area. They are still going strong. The only thing that prevents me from giving them a higher rating is the lack of options for building your own stir fry and the fact that the meats are frozen, but what they do provide gets the job done. Chicken, beef, pork, and sometimes lamb along with noodles lettuce, tomatoes, onions, green peppers, sprouts and a large selection of sauces is typically all I need. They also have a separate buffet set up with Chinese items including delicious Mongolian wings! Lunch is $8.50 and dinner is $10.50, so I think the value is there. In a world of so many chain restaurants, it's nice to see "the little guy" hold his own.

I don't know what these reviewers are talking about with service. Mine was great. I came in only for the boba tea but was asked if I wanted to check out the buffet. It looked good so I grabbed some chinese food to go. The sesame chicken wasn't as crispy as I'd like (was a little soggy) but it tasted pretty good. The boba tea was great. It was a little shady and a little dirty but I didn't get sick...I'll test my luck again. If they cleaned up, I'd be back sooner!

This place is great! The service isn't always the best. But it is literally the best chinese/mongolian buffet I can find in the whole city. I have been going here for years and I have enjoyed it every time. They could use a good cleaning though!

  • Matthew L.

The place is pretty solid. I appreciate their meat selection, I wish they still had lamb. My gripe is the fact that the staff (owners) are extraordinarily rude. They park their SUV and BMW in the first spots and would lead you to believe they are doing you a favor by bringing you a coke. The food is good, but the owners are terrible.

  • Billy D.

I like this place. The Chinese buffet is greasy - just like you would expect and is a good option as an appetizer when waiting for your bowl. The mongolian bread and green beans are my two favorite items of any chinese buffet ever. They don't have a ton of BBQ items, but they are generally pretty fresh and tasty. Their sauces are pretty solid also - above average for Mongolian BBQ IMO. The people who work here are assholes - but for the price and the yummy mongolian-ness, I'll let it slide. The lunch deal is pretty cheap if I remember ($8?) but expect to get any work done after.

Ok here is the deal, its all you can eat buffet, if you go there for their other dishes besides the self service bowl of anything you want, why did you go? Hit their self serve bowl! The highlight is the bowl with which you can choose your own meats, noodles, veggies, sauces, etc etc. You can just make as much as you can handle in a sitting, go wild. Add sauce, just add more then they say.... who cares I've never been hassled about tips, but yeah they get kinda stingy on some things. I never tipped the cooks really, but I tip the bill or split the tip slightly for small for cooks and most for bill. One stingy part I hate is beverages, get water if you order soda because for 3 bucks your beverage is like one can of soda on Ice. No fountain, no free refills here which is kinda lame being the rest is buffet.... However the food you get from the buffet is basically what you get when you go, I used to make sure I went here after working out or something cause you can load up. If your food sucks, you made it bad, I like to cook so I know what to add in and I love this place for the buffet style ingredients. Taste is good if you know how to flavor things. Start small with your bowl and try one small combination, if you hate it you can keep trying things... Im kinda surprised the owner would chew someone out over tips cause he drives a BMW and they are doing well... but hey maybe he was on the madoff retirement plan? lol

Honestly, S.C., like Dave said, don't judge an entire city by the suburbs! It's hard for me to even believe someone could find rave reviews of this place online. 15 years ago it was kind of cool, when there was almost no Asian food in Milwaukee and it seemed really innovative to watch your food being cooked right before your eyes. But really, this place is dated and obviously does not serve high-quality food. Milwaukee has lots of great restaurants!

  • Jessica B.

It is what it is: a Mongolian grill with a small Chinese buffet. It's not a gourmet restaurant, but if you come here, then that's not what you're expecting. The staff was friendly ( it appeared to be family owned and operated). You just walk up to the bar and choose what you want, hand your bowl to the cook, watch as he prepares it and then you have your meal. I would stick with the beef, it seemed to be the most flavorful of the protein options. It's simple, satisfying, and relatively inexpensive!

I love this place, probably because any all-you-can-eat restaurant seems like some sort of microcosm of heaven to me. Now, I've been coming here for years, and let's get some things straight: this is not a high-class restaurant. Decor is strange, with the year-round christmas lights and the inflatable Tsingtao beer bottle, and everything is pretty straight-forward in terms of seating area, service, and so on. This is not a good first-date restaurant, nor would it make a good place for a business meeting, unless your business partner really loves to eat and doesn't care about being impressed. I've never ordered off their menu and in fact have rarely even seen their menu. I know it exists. The only reason to go to this place is the buffet. You pick your ingredients and your sauces, hand it to a big Mongolian guy who has been working there for at least ten years now, and in about two minutes, he'll give you back a bowl full of awesome. Since it is sort of a hole-in-the-wall, you do have to watch out for the occasional yellowish piece of broccoli or brownish bean sprout. Pick around them, laugh to yourself, and move along. The nice thing about Genghis Khan is that it really is Mongolian BBQ, as opposed to the chains that use that phrase a little loosely. You won't find any sauces that aren't inherently Mongolian, and you won't find things like beef patties so the cooks can make a hamburger for you. You'll just find delicious, affordable, all-you-can-eat Mongolian food. Oh, and a tip: if you're a somewhat light eater but you're going with someone like me, who may very well end up eating for two hours, consider bringing a book with you.

Place looks a little rough but its my favorite Mongolian bbq. Great variety of sauces with way more flavor than at the franchise grills. Great bargain too--especially during lunch hours.

For what this place is, it's great. They make wonderful Mongolian BBQ, they have great options of vegetables. The service is not the best, but what can you expect from a restaurant where you serve yourself. I'm quite friendly with the staff but that's just because I've been going there for ten years, so they can be quite friendly people. My grandma always orders off the menu and she receives quite lovely food (especially the sweet & sour chicken) so that is always an option. The regular buffet has pretty good options, not the best Chinese food if that's what you're looking for, it's just mediocre and it's small.

  • Joe G.

Khan's was one of the first Mongolian restaurants I ever ran into, and I can easily say that I developed a love for the format while eating there. After selecting uncooked items off the buffet, you hand your food over to be grilled, and watch as they cook your food on a huge circular grill. The cooks are amazing, and do a consistently excellent job - be sure to leave a few bucks in their tip jar. Your dinner ends up being something that you can design to your own tastes, and is (if you made good choices) very good food. I strongly suggest making multiple small trips up and trying different combinations. Unfortunately, in recent years, the staff has become very pushy about tips. Being a small business owner, I occasionally take certain business partners out to dinner, and we have a long established routine where I pay the bill and a partner leaves the tip. Apparently they got a "poor" tip, and they ran out the door after me and accosted *me* about the tip. After that, I started getting the cold shoulder and poor service, and so I would tip accordingly, and they were again aggressively rude several more times. I finally got disgusted and stopped patronizing the place. Come to think of it, it's not quite clear why you should feel obligated to give them a 20% tip when all they're doing is bringing you your drinks and clearing your dirty plates. Fortunately, there's been a plethora of alternatives in recent years, although only one is close. There's a chain by the name of Khan's in Minneapolis, beautiful. There's a chain by the name of HuHot up in Appleton, great food but an asterisk by their service record. And there's the very unusual bd's Mongolian Grill out by Bayshore, which has the odd format of putting your sauces on your food during the final seconds of cooking, which doesn't seem to work as well, but their selection is huge and great. As a result, Genghis Khan has been losing out on our business for a while now. If you don't mind the possibility of having waitstaff get uppity with you over tips, I still highly recommend their food. The place is tiny and has a very unusual feel to it.

NO LAMB?! I love me some Mongolian BBQ... I always gauge my ratings of Mongolian by weather or not they have lamb as a choice of meat . It is not the best set up... Only one line and not a large choice of veggies. I didn't try the chinese side, but that's not why I go to a Mongolian BBQ place anyway. I went there for lunch and they are VERY serious about the "one bowl" lunch maximum for the grill portion. I would have liked another trip, but I was full anyway. Nonetheless, it was ok... That being said.... I would go back.

I'm sorry that other poster's entre into the Milwaukee dining scene was this hell hole. My sister was all big on this place, but when I went I found it terrible. She also stopped going after a period of steady decline. I am a little mystified, however, that my friend here chose to call Milwaukee's dining scene a "tastebud-killer," having gone to a total of three restaurants and liking two of them. Moreover, he appears to have only dined at places in the western suburbs, so his experience with Milwaukee's restaurant scene would appear to be rather limited. Milwaukee is not a "tastebud killer." I have been to many great restaurants over the years in Brew City. It's not New York or San Francisco, but the dining scene in Milwaukee is decent. Definitely not a "tastebud killer." Now, this place, on the other hand? Definitely a tastebud killer.
