Just had breakfast here yesterday. What a delight! Hubby got the special-Seafood crepes. WOW! I got spinach omelette with cajun taters and loved mine also. Highly recommend.
Advertised as the "best breakfast in the Northwoods" and we concur! Great food, ample portions, wide selection, and wonderful service. I highly recommend if you're in the area!
I ate at Robin's Nest for breakfast one day while visiting Hayward for a weekend. Overall, I thought was a unique and local place to grab a bite to eat. It's rather a long drive from "downtown" Hayward, about 20 minutes. We were recommended to this place for breakfast, which is why we went. Because it is basically in the middle of nowhere, it seemed like it was a local place to eat. I ordered the ham and eggs, and it was a very good sized portion of ham. They did sunnyside-up eggs very well, and the breakfast hit the spot. The other people we were with also had large portions and meals. Service was hit or miss, to be honest. Ultimately, this is a local diner, so I didn't go into it expecting first-class service or anything. Had a great meal, and I'd recommend Robin's Nest for breakfast!

Best restaurant, bar none, in Northern Wisconsin. From the great food (our fav - schnitzel al la Holstein with German potatoes and start with the salad with blue cheese and vinaigrette, hopefully they'll have apple strudel with vanilla ice cream that night), to the bar (Jack and Seven with a twist), to the friendly patrons, to the staff, the owners, the little musical trios that play and sing old 40's hits. My young son and I go here whenever we're up here and he loves it at even his young age. Love the nice relish tray with all the little treats they start you off with as well. Sit down at the bar, have a drink and fade off into yesteryear. It's a new favorite place for anyone who hasn't been there yet. for those who have been there they'll all agree. Love this place!! A wonderful, classic supper club in the Northwoods! The owners are wonderful people and always make you feel welcome. The setting for the restaurant is lovely - right in the woods on County Road A. The service is great and the food is excellent!!! We especially enjoy the relish tray with cocktails before dinner. This place is a sure bet when you are staying near Hayward, WI.
Outstanding service. Pork chops are highly recommended. Schnitzel is very good. Bartender is a master at his craft. Old time supper club with relish tray and quaint decor. You will enjoy.

Tally Ho Supper Club

Hayward, 54843
Reviews:
Despite vacationing in the area for my whole life, I'd never made it to Tally Ho. We corrected that this week with an early BDay dinner for the Mister. For the area, Tally Ho is a definite 5 stars. Wine: A It's really hard to find a place up here with a decent list so TH made me very happy. They've got a good 25-30 quality choices, mostly by the bottle. There are 5-6 quality glass choices and prices are reasonable with most bottles in the $25-35 range. Service: A Our server was a delight - we never lacked for anything and everyone here was genuinely friendly. App: B- We tried the bacon wrapped shrimp with chili sauce. The shrimp were large & delicious but the bacon wasn't crispy enough. I dd like the presentation which came with grilled pineapple. Yum! Entrees: A My 6oz filet was cooked properly & nicely seasoned. The Mister went with the pork chops as he had heard they were amazing & he wasn't at all disappointed. I'm used to the "chefs choice" veggies basically being crap but not here - the fresh beans WERE fresh - they were a little crisp and tasted like they'd been freshly picked from the garden. Supper Club Elements: A There are certain things I expect from an up-north supper club: a properly made Brandy Old Fashioned (present), a relish tray (duly delivered with cheese spread, tapenade and tasty fennel seed crackers), a dessert tray (which made me order peanut butter pie) and of course, an old-school interior. Tally Ho is pretty nice but it does have tacky plaid carpet which made me happy. Overall - TH is a pretty good drive from Hayward (and everywhere else for that matter) but it's definitely worth the trip. If you're coming from points east you'll drive through prime elk viewing country on 77, so you might see an elk. But you probably won't.
Just ate the Tally Ho for the 1st time since Chuck and Jo started running the place again. I could not recommend it more highly! We had the Prince Edwards Island Mussels for our appetizer that where top notch. I went with the pistachio crusted walleye for my main course which was one of the best walleye fillets I have ever eaten. As your side make sure also to choose the rustic mash potatoes they are to die for... It's great to see the Tally Ho back in it's old form! Great atmosphere, cocktails, and food!
If you're in Hayward and want gourmet food- this supper club- is the place to be. The Tally Ho offers a full bar, and some of the most charming bartenders I have ever come across. Very relaxed atmosphere and quality drink service; cocktails were on point and they have a very nice wine selection. As for the food- I couldn't say more- The shrimp scampi was delectable. And the filet was juicy and flavorful as well. I've been eating here every time I come to Hayward at least once or twice during my visits, and I have never had anything but a good time, great service and some of the MOST DELICIOUS food you will ever come across in Hayward. Consistently a group pleaser every year.

Amazing meal it is the best food in the north woods. Pricey, but worth every penny. French style cuisine, better than your big city bistros. Had free relish tray, duck tenderloins in honey ginger peppercorn sauce, fine herb risotto and their special- top sirloin medallions in a Cabernet sauced and corn relish. Everything tasted heavenly!! Must go back.
We have visited the Fireside every year while on vacation for the past four years. The food is always incredible and the service is wonderful! We have a large group and they are always able to accommodate us. Drinks are fantastic and reasonably priced. Their appetizers are unique, beautiful and tasty- we like their fried avocado, duck tenderloins and the foie gras. I highly recommend trying the tomato parmesan soup and there isn't a bad decision that you could make when it comes to their entree selections.
It wasn't bad. Kind of felt like you traveled back in time. My wife said it smelled like an old grandpa's place and that it needed updating....although it was about what I'd expect from a place deep in the woods. I had pork shanks which tasted decent and my wife had the chicken Alfredo which was good but not great. The relish tray was warm which didn't make it too appetizing. Overall it was a bit overpriced for the caliber of the food and atmosphere.

Brunch on a Sunday, sat outdoors, overlooking the water. We both ordered omelets (with Canadian Bacon, cheese, mushrooms). Service was GREAT, order came right away. We also had fresh grapes and tasty sourdough bread toast with rosemary baked in which was a treat. Locals and visitors alike should come here for brunch! We got to see a turtle swimming in the water as we dined, and a cute little chipmunk playfully had our attention as we were leaving.
Best restaurant in Hayward, hands down. Never mind the lovely view and the nice staff - the food is amazing! We had the baked Brie appetizer (as my lunch meal) and the steak sandwich with the wild rice salad as a side. First of all, it was pretty hard choosing our meals as multiple items in the lunch menu looked very appetizing. The steak sandwich was awesome - cooked perfectly medium rare, with a nice sauce, grilled onions and other toppings that complimented the sandwich perfectly. The cold wild rice salad was delicious too. The baked Brie came with pieces of toast, apple slices, walnuts and a delicious wine reduction sauce. We will be back. Can't wait to try their dinner menu :)
One of the best, if not the best, steak sandwiches I've ever eaten! The lemon infused wild rice salad is also excellent. Flavors balance out perfectly. Definitely coming here every time we are in Hayward. Chef Cory Is a very talented man :)

Been coming to Waterfront for many years as it is our favorite place in the Hayward area. The Friday night fish fry is great- you can get either baked or fried fish and the twice baked potato is a real treat. Saturday night prime rib is killer and a favorite of our carnivorous 17 yr old son. Great cozy atmosphere and it is tough to beat sitting on the deck on a nice summer evening!
Ahhh, my true love! Waterfront has been my favorite fish fry for a very long time, probably close to 15 years! Im sure it always will be... Everyt ime I come up to my parents cabin I visit this spot and it never lets me down. I adore the fish fry but the walleye san and wings are good too. Thought of writing this review because Im on my way over there tonight!
No better Friday night fish fry! The baked haddock is a killer, and the twice baked potato is great. Up North atmosphere, excellent wait and bar staff, and quality consistency. No one could rate this place below at least four stars!

Moccasin Bar

Hayward, 54843
Reviews:
Anything that is listed on RoadsideAmerica.com automatically gets 5 stars by me. Chock full of quirky, north woods kitschy stuff. The sign outside claims that there is a wildlife museum inside. They're not kidding- Chipmunks opening PBR's- some other type of weird animals boxing, but they do have other, real, displays as well. Lenie on tap, and bags of Old Dutch behind the bar.
If you're squeamish around taxidermy, this is not your bar. If you're looking for artisan cocktails, this is not your bar. If you only have a credit card, this is not your bar. But if you don't fall into any of these categories, have an open mind and give the Moccasin Bar a try when you're in Hayward. It will likely be a memorable experience. But let's go back to that taxidermy for a moment. The "wildlife museum" that this bar boasts is ... ummmmm ... creative ... to say the least -- like a-raccoon-playing-poker-with-a-bear creative or squirrel-sharing-a-PBR-with-a-chipmunk creative. (You can actually find scenes of these in this bar.) Moccasin Bar has taxidermied models of the record muskellunge fish that have come out of the nearby lakes. The musky fish look kind of like the fish from "Big Fish" but with stripes. They're giant, almost mythical. And they line Moccasin Bar's walls. When someone catches a musky and says it was "this big," they're probably telling the truth. But beyond the fish, there are also dioramas of local wildlife and even fictional scenes with the animals. My favorite is a scene of a wolf presiding over a "Kangaroo Court," in which a badger is accused of hunting woodcock out of a season. It's very involved. There's another diorama that shows one raccoon winning over another raccoon in a boxing match. PETA would probably frown upon these depictions. But there's something so strange and unique about these that make it hard to look away from them. When you do look away, though, you'll find friendly bartenders eager to give you a Spotted Cow (my beer of choice). And if you find yourself in Moccasin Bar after the Musky Fest Parade in June, you'll likely see the bar invaded by the Marty's Goldenaires marching band. It's a sight. Drums on the pool table. Horns blaring. It's fun to be sure! Moccasin Bar is memorable in so many ways.
What an interesting little place. Looking at taxidermy specimens playing cards while you drink beer is certainly a unique experience of the Moccasin Bar. I think that can be good and bad. I was in Hayward for a weekend and was told to go here, and I'm both glad that I did. First of all, relative to DC prices, this place is incredibly cheap. $3.25 for a whiskey, and very low beer prices. At the end of the day, Moccasin Bar is clean, so it's more like a local dive bar than anything. That it doubles as a wildlife museum is more quaint than anything. You can tell these animals have been dead for a very long time. There are also darts and shooting games in the back, so that's always fun after a few drinks. I had a good time at the Moccasin Bar, and I'd recommend stopping here, if just for the novelty of a bar and museum combo.

Boulder Lodge Resort

7296 W State Road 77
Hayward, 54843
Reviews:
Besides being one of the very few RV resorts in the area, Boulder Lodge has some great potential. The RV and camping sites were spacious and nicely isolated, though perhaps a bit rustic. Overall, the resort was well-tended. A big plus was the hundred-year-old Lodge, which had a small bar and served a limited - though delicious (with unique specials) - menu of food. The Lodge is open Thursday through Sunday only when we were there and we would have liked extended hours (lunch) and other evenings, but we realized the owners were a bit short staffed. We assumed the Lodge wasn't open during the day, which is too bad as we would have liked to have spent time inside, just reading and getting away from the mosquitos (which, BTW, were the worst we have ever experienced). The owners, Terry and Michelle, were very pleasant and accommodating. We popped into two of the three cabins they have for rent and they looked very quaint and cozy - a good option for non-tent/RV people. The resort had a lot of parkhomes, though we found those - and almost all of the camping sites - oddly empty, which is too bad. This is a great option for RVers looking to get away to northwest Wisconsin's backwoods. Hopefully more people will learn about the resort and frequent it, allowing the owners to continue to improve the property.
