Amazing meal it is the best food in the north woods. Pricey, but worth every penny. French style cuisine, better than your big city bistros. Had free relish tray, duck tenderloins in honey ginger peppercorn sauce, fine herb risotto and their special- top sirloin medallions in a Cabernet sauced and corn relish. Everything tasted heavenly!! Must go back.

We have visited the Fireside every year while on vacation for the past four years. The food is always incredible and the service is wonderful! We have a large group and they are always able to accommodate us. Drinks are fantastic and reasonably priced. Their appetizers are unique, beautiful and tasty- we like their fried avocado, duck tenderloins and the foie gras. I highly recommend trying the tomato parmesan soup and there isn't a bad decision that you could make when it comes to their entree selections.

It wasn't bad. Kind of felt like you traveled back in time. My wife said it smelled like an old grandpa's place and that it needed updating....although it was about what I'd expect from a place deep in the woods. I had pork shanks which tasted decent and my wife had the chicken Alfredo which was good but not great. The relish tray was warm which didn't make it too appetizing. Overall it was a bit overpriced for the caliber of the food and atmosphere.

A wonderful restaurant in the Northwoods! We went with friends for dinner. The menu options are abundant and creative - it was difficult choosing an appetizer and entrée since there were so many great items on the menu. The cocktails were perfect. The complimentary relish tray and salad with our entrees were nice touches, too. The service was exemplary. The bar and dining room provide that great "Up North" dining experience. A very special restaurant in Hayward!

I travel a lot for business and go to a lot of restaurants. I absolutely loved this place! Some of the best food I've had in years. We had the crab cake appetizer, lentil soup, french onion soup and the beef tenderloin. Everything was perfectly seasoned, lots of flavor and cooked to perfection. Never thought I was going to find this good of a restaurant in hayward, wi.

Wow!! What a find. Who would have thought you could find such great food in the woods. What a chef. Nice, reasonable wine list as well. Not to be missed. If you have only one place to go in the Hayward area, this is it.

The Fireside serves up sophisticated fare in a beautiful relaxed nothewoods setting. While not cheap, you DEFINATELY get what you are paying for! We dined on Saturday night with an 8pm dinner reservation. We arrived and were seated immediately at a table with a beautiful view of the woods. Our dinner began with a complimentary relish tray - veggies, dip, cheese, crackers, peppers, pickles, olives and pickled herring. It was delicious. I ordered the duck tenderloins as a starter - they were panko coated and lightly fried served with a black pepper sauce. They were AMAZING. My girlfriend ordered the carribean influenced crab cake - light and fluffy with a mango chutney. It was also excellent. Salads followed with a wonderful homemade honey mustard vinagrette. For the entree, my girlfriend ordered the clams and I ordered the special - an 8 oz fiet topped with fois gras and a fried duck egg. The meals arrived in a timely fashion - not too fast, not too long. Her clams were steamed in white wine and served over an angel hair pasta with a red sauce. (I stole some of hers). The clams were the most tender I have ever had and had a delicate flavor. The red sauce was zesty and well balanced. The pasta was of a high quality. Now for mine... AMAZING!!! The filet was the most generous 8 oz I have ever seen (halfway through eating it, I think I still had 8 oz left!) It was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested and was fork tender - no knife needed. The fois gras was a full duck liver sauteed and pressed - cooked to a buttery smoothness. The fried duck egg covered it all and was cooked perfectly - tender. The entire dish was surrounded by a melenge of mushrooms and diced potato and onion in a red wine reduction. This has made my short-list of what I would choose for a last meal. We paired the dishes with a couple glasses of the house red wine from their extensive wine list. Upon finishing, I retired outside for a cigarette (I wished I had a cigar for this meal) while my girlfriend ordered one of their homemade desserts. As she says "I don't remember what it was called, but it was damn good!" (It was pastries with iced cream inside with various sauces. If you are looking for an EXCEPTIONAL dinner - A romantic night out - or just the best meal you will have while you are in Hayward, WI you have got to go to the Fireside.

I travel all over the country. Have been to quite a few restaurants. This is one of the best places I've been. Food was phenomominal. Presentation was great. Kodos to the chef and to Emily who treated us great!

I really wanted to give Fireside a 5 star review, because the food here was excellent as was the service and atmosphere. It's not much to look at from the entrance, but inside has a very North woods supper club vibe which I like, and a lovely garden view. The night we were there, we watched a young buck frolic in their back yard for around 20 minutes during our dinner. Our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu and preparation of our food, My wife ordered the sirloin with crabmeat and I ordered the veal sweetbread, both were wonderful presentations and delicious. The only problem was she ordered it medium rare and it came medium well. We returned it and she got her steak the way she ordered it, only problem was I'd already finished my dinner at that point. They did bring us a complimentary chocolate moose, but that little snafu knocked them down a notch. This was our first trip to The Fireside, and it won't be our last. A little pricey, but well worth it.

Have to agree with the poorest review on this site. Very expensive, ($6.95 for a bowl of soup!) pasta tasted like it was out of a box. Potions small. Couldn't taste the salad dressing that was in the salad. Pork tenderloin was undercooked in center. Waitress was nice, but didn't question why plates werent empy. Sorry, won't be going back.

If you are looking for traditional Northwoods dining with a Continental, innovative menu, you will be very happy to stop in to The Fireside. Owned and run by Chef Charles Washawsky and his wife Erica, The Fireside is welcoming from the moment you walk into the refurbished 1920's restaurant. While the decor and sincere welcome may be retro, the food is modern, creative, and will leave you wanting to return to try out more from Chef Warshawsky's menu that relies on local specialities like my personal favorite, the Roasted Walleye, to mouthwatering specialties like Fried Avocado with crabmeat and Sauteed Foie Gras. There is something for everyone at The Fireside, which also includes a full bar stocked with top shelf liquor, including delicious liqueurs for classic ice cream desserts like Brandy Alexanders and Grasshoppers. Continental stapes like Steak Frites are prepared perfectly and the relish tray filled with cheeses, veggies, and pickled herring demonstrate the attention to detail that makes dining at The Fireside feel special. Both Chef Charles and Erica offer wonderful hospitality and are available to make your dining experience perfect. I recommend multiple visits to sample both the daily items and specials. When I am in Hayward, The Fireside is my first stop. I recommend making reservations since I am not the only "regular."

Read the reviews below. I agree with them all. My aunt is still having a food orgasm from dinner. The lady at the next table said, "I'll have what she's having." Nicki, our fabulous waitress, informed her that it was the risotto with truffle oil. We even met the chef, Chef Chuck. What a gem in Hayward. Can't wait to come back next summer, don't ya know!

Hands down, this is my favorite place to dine in the North Woods of Hayward, WI. Chuck and Erica (proprietors) are eager to please and just as friendly as they come. Their menu rivals that of any restaurant in one of the big cities. I highly recommend The Fireside for a great dining experience, try the filet!!!

So I went back to The Fireside 2 nights later for dinner again. Once again an unbelievably good meal. Garlic butter escargot for the starter was as good as any I've had. The shrimp and herb risotto nearly had me in tears it was so good. The extra delicious crispy profiteroles were arguably the best I've ever had. To cap off a wonderful meal with wonderful service (Nikki rocks \m/ !) we were lucky enough to have cocktails with the owners/chef Chuck and Erica and talk about music, food and booze, three of my favorite subjects, and let me tell you, you'd be hard pressed to meet nicer people who care more about their restaurant than these two. Chef Chuck is a true artist and his lovely wife Erica is the perfect hostess/manager for such a talented chef. Bravo once again Chef Chuck and Erica!

Wow! This place is fantastic. Featuring Gold Coast, Chicago appropriate food in the beautiful North woods. Everything we ordered (party of 5), including off the kids menu, was delicious. We also had a lovely view of the woods, the chef's own spice garden, and a deer. If you are in the Hayward area, you must stop in here.
