Despite vacationing in the area for my whole life, I'd never made it to Tally Ho. We corrected that this week with an early BDay dinner for the Mister. For the area, Tally Ho is a definite 5 stars. Wine: A It's really hard to find a place up here with a decent list so TH made me very happy. They've got a good 25-30 quality choices, mostly by the bottle. There are 5-6 quality glass choices and prices are reasonable with most bottles in the $25-35 range. Service: A Our server was a delight - we never lacked for anything and everyone here was genuinely friendly. App: B- We tried the bacon wrapped shrimp with chili sauce. The shrimp were large & delicious but the bacon wasn't crispy enough. I dd like the presentation which came with grilled pineapple. Yum! Entrees: A My 6oz filet was cooked properly & nicely seasoned. The Mister went with the pork chops as he had heard they were amazing & he wasn't at all disappointed. I'm used to the "chefs choice" veggies basically being crap but not here - the fresh beans WERE fresh - they were a little crisp and tasted like they'd been freshly picked from the garden. Supper Club Elements: A There are certain things I expect from an up-north supper club: a properly made Brandy Old Fashioned (present), a relish tray (duly delivered with cheese spread, tapenade and tasty fennel seed crackers), a dessert tray (which made me order peanut butter pie) and of course, an old-school interior. Tally Ho is pretty nice but it does have tacky plaid carpet which made me happy. Overall - TH is a pretty good drive from Hayward (and everywhere else for that matter) but it's definitely worth the trip. If you're coming from points east you'll drive through prime elk viewing country on 77, so you might see an elk. But you probably won't.

Just ate the Tally Ho for the 1st time since Chuck and Jo started running the place again. I could not recommend it more highly! We had the Prince Edwards Island Mussels for our appetizer that where top notch. I went with the pistachio crusted walleye for my main course which was one of the best walleye fillets I have ever eaten. As your side make sure also to choose the rustic mash potatoes they are to die for... It's great to see the Tally Ho back in it's old form! Great atmosphere, cocktails, and food!

If you're in Hayward and want gourmet food- this supper club- is the place to be. The Tally Ho offers a full bar, and some of the most charming bartenders I have ever come across. Very relaxed atmosphere and quality drink service; cocktails were on point and they have a very nice wine selection. As for the food- I couldn't say more- The shrimp scampi was delectable. And the filet was juicy and flavorful as well. I've been eating here every time I come to Hayward at least once or twice during my visits, and I have never had anything but a good time, great service and some of the MOST DELICIOUS food you will ever come across in Hayward. Consistently a group pleaser every year.

The food and ambiance were great. They were out of a few things which is pretty standard for a late reservation at a supper club. The service, however, was terrible. The waitress didn't know the bar's rails, wasn't sure what the kitchen was out of, didn't smile, and when we left after having our after dinner coffee and scotch, no one returned our farewells even though most of the staff was sitting around the bar and we were the last patrons out. It pains me to give Tally Ho more than two stars, but they did have Balvenie 12 year marked up no more than 100% of wholesale.

My father and I had the Pork Prime Rib and the 14oz Veal Chop and both were fantastic. Our server was really nice and was right there whenever we migh t have needed something. My Pork prime rib was flavorful and delicately seasoned. It was really presented well which it to day it looked awesome. Portions were large and I ended up with a take home box! I have gotten really picky about where I dine and I have to give a hearty endorsement of the Tallyho. Life is too short for second class meals.

Went for dinner with my wife at Tally Ho for the first time last night. It was superb. Stiff drinks, smooth wine, and wonderfully prepared and served cuisine. Nice relish tray was waiting for us on the table with tasty olive tapenade, cheese spread, crudités, etc. We split the calamari appetizer which could have fed 4. The calamari included the tentacles which are the best part but rarely served in the upper Midwest. I had the excellent Caesar salad with real anchovies and my wife had a wonderful caprese salad with beefsteak tomato and fresh creamy mozzarella well worth the $5 upcharge. We both had the soft shell crab special perfectly lightly breaded and pan fried with accompanying twice baked potato and seasonal sautéed vegetables. We topped it all off with what appeared to be house made raspberry cheesecake from the tableside presented dessert tray, a very nice touch. Both host Chuck and hostess Jo each stopped by our table to chat and ensure everything was copacetic. The place was packed on this Saturday night yet service was crisp and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Tally Ho and look forward to returning soon. This is a classic northern Wisconsin supper club in the finest sense and should not be missed!

Vacationing here 22 years, then retiring here over six years ago, we'd never made it to the Tally Ho. There were a few changes of ownership in recent years and some odd reports of owner behavior, so we stayed away. But now that the previous owners, Chuck & JoKaren are back at the helm, managing the venue for an out-of-state owner, we decided it was time to pay them a visit. Generous cocktails. Calamari appetizer was easily enough for four people. We took over half of it home. It was still pretty darned good the next day! My entrée, the scallops, was perfect in every way. Salad small, but I think most restaurants give you so much salad, you've no room left for your entrée. The small salad was well prepped and fresh, with a nice array of greens. My dining companion had the halibut. It was perfectly cooked, but could have benefitted from more seasoning. Halibut is such a mild fish, it ended up a rather bland entrée. Enjoyed the old-fashioned relish tray, with a modern twist. Service was very good. And the gracious JoKaren visits most tables to make sure everyone's happy, happy, happy. Final comment: best calamari in the Hayward area. A great place for a special occasion, to treat yourself!

Went to dinner with reservation at 6:30pm. Greeted by Jo and Chuck who are the managers. Had a single malt scotch at the bar. Off to dinner which had a relish tray to start. Had Calamari which was very tasty. Ordered the large Prime Rib which had mashed potatoes on the side. With Jo and Chuck running Tally Ho again, its like the old days. Go try it !!

I can't sing enough praises for the Tally Ho. As a vegan from Brooklyn , I sat down to a menu that was swimming, mooing & quacking & was not sure what to do. When I told the server my predicament, the chef herself came out & literally asked me what I'd like! I had the best quinoa with seasonal vegetables & a homemade pesto sauce ~ outstandingly delicious. The thoughtfulness of the staff & the heartfelt passion for leaving diners satisfied is a testament to this little diamond in the rough backwoods of Wisconsin. To note, the rest of the table had the walleye & said it was outstanding.

The new and improved Tally Ho is now open! Although I never went here while the previous owners were running the place, I know that Tally Ho is now an entirely different restaurant. The ambiance and interior were typical to the north woods, which is a compliment to say the least. The thing that makes this place special is the great food and great service, not to mention a full bar with a great selection. We started out with fried calamari and clam/mussels combo appetizers. They were delicious partly because of the red pepper aioli included with the calamari. The french onion soup was the best I ever had, baked with Gruyere and provolone cheese and crostini and made with 6 types of onions. The menu also includes lobster bisque. Both the ceasar and house salads were very fresh. My walleye was one of the most tender I've ever had served with delicious white cheddar mashed potatoes, skin included, and a phenomenal lemon caper remoulade. I highly recommend this place to anyone. The menu is also mostly gluten free, even most of the breadings, so almost everybody can enjoy their spectacular experience!

I am updating my review from three years ago. We recently revisited the Tally Ho, and we were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is under new management, and we could really tell the difference. Wonderful service and delicious food! We will definitely be back to this gourmet spot in the Northwoods.
