Excellent Sushi! The lunch special 6pc nigiri and one roll for $11.95 was a great deal and the quality of their Sushi blows away most other Sushi restaurants in the area.

WoW! I can't believe I found this place. What did I do in a past life to deserve this. If you want made up rolls with lots of mixed flavors so you can't taste the old rotten fish this is your house. I personally like my sushi traditional and simple. Nigiri and Sashimi are ways I can appreciate great fish. On many pieces of nigiri the fish was hard (dried) and dark/dried. I don't care if you don't know sushi, you'd know this is bad. Remind me never to eat here again..... even in a future life. PS Should be a 0 star

Good food for the inexpensive price, BUT long wait (and the place wasn't even packed!) I had the Bento box which had 2 tiny pieces of beef, tempura, and fried fish. I'd eat there again.

I really like Sushi Moto, especially because it's so close to my house! In my opinion it's the best sushi spot closest to my house. I have never been here when it's packed, it's usually fairly empty. Last time I came here with a big group of people and they seated us in one of the private back rooms. The food here is good, consistent and fresh. I usually only order the sashimi so I cannot comment on the rolls; last time I did order a spicy tuna roll and it was very good. Edamame, miso soup, salad, and some broccoli thing are complimentary. The service has always been hit or miss; for the most part they check back and refill drinks but sometimes they do forget about you.

Below average sushi, with dry, moderately chewy meat. Katsu was breaded, not fried in panko, and was also dry and chewy. Service was OK, if not a little slow. It's pretty cheap at least!

100% not family or group friendly. We had a big groups of friends that wanted to have a dinner on Saturday and half of us are kids under 5. When we came in, the manager was so freaked out that we have a big group of kids and decided not really wanted to seat us. After a few minutes, they changed their mind but we were asked to sit in 4 separated rooms for the 4 families. What?? There were tons of empty tables right at the main dining room that would fit us easily. I think they didn't want us due to the kids noise and rather serve the same number of adults that will have a bigger bill. We eventually left without eating and went to the pho place next door and they happily served us. Avoid if you have kids.

Came in for lunch. My sashimi was all messed up and old looking. Won't come back again.

We have been going to Sushi Moto since the first week they opened (we think 13 or 14 years ago) and we have had nothing but great food there. We are so happy such a great family run business is so close to our house. They are very friendly to us and also to our son. They seem family friendly to us. They even make me a special roll that they took off the menu years ago because it's my favorite. Highly recommended.

This is a great place to eat. We have never had an issue bringing our kid with us.

On the recommendation of an acquaintance, we decided to check out this restaurant. We were the only customers in the place and received attentive service from the server. She brought us miso soup and other goodies while we waited for our appetizers and entrées. The appetizers were tasty and our sushi was excellent and fresh. My only criticism is for the pork katsu donburi. The pork was tasty and moist but there was some sort of buttery cheese over the rice which made it mushy and unpalatable. I don't think I would order it again I'd go back for sushi if I didn't feel like heading to our usual haunts. If you live near, check them out and give them a try at least once. Just avoid the donburi unless you like cheesy buttery rice.

I honestly really love this place, the food is amazing, prepared very well and served in a very fashionable manner for food. As for the service, I'm not the biggest fan. I've come to this place multiple times, and never had a bad experience. My girlfriend who is a regular told me about her horrid experience and I remember thinking, "Wow, thats never happened to me, maybe she was just in one of her moods..." I thought that up until a few hours ago. I told my friend about this place and how we NEEDED to go because it is the best sushi I've had around the area, (including Seattle area as well), so I happily drove completely out of my way to take him here. First off, we arrived at about 1:15, the place closes down at 2 on weekdays until 5p.m. for dinner. We got a look from the waitress like she absolutely hated us, and you would think that she'd be appreciative, I get it, someone coming in 5 minutes before you close is waaay different than someone coming in 45 minutes before you close, so that already had put a bad taste in my mouth. My friend and I ordered our food, ate everything, and wanted some more...so when she brought over the check we told her we would rather have the menu so we could order more and she replied "We're CLOSED." I was shocked...first off missy, we have been sitting here for well over an hour and are already paying customers, fact of the matter is, she shouldve came over and asked us if we needed anything else before we left instead of throwing the bill in our faces and making it clear she wanted us out. The thing that got me most is that after we had asked for the menu again, and had been refused, the chefs we're still cooking for some people they looked pretty "buddy buddy" with at the bar area. This place has great quality food, but the service, is nothing to rave about, it left me and my friend thoroughly disappointed and to top it off, we were still hungry! Lame!

Great textures, multiple courses included, reliably good. Our favorite neighborhood Japanese.

It's really hard to rate a place I have such mixed feelings about. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 for Yelp scoring purposes. Their sushi is fantastic! It's one of the first sushi places I've ever tried, since it's just five minutes away from home, and anything I've had since, is hardpressed to be as good. HOWEVER... Their service is terrible. The couple that owns the place seem to be nice, although I've never had the pleasure to speak to them. But there is one woman who is there ALL THE TIME, who is so rude, every time I see her I swear to myself I won't go in again. She's told me I can't use my debit card, she's rolled her eyes at me, she's looked at me and laughed, it's crazy!! Although I haven't seen her so much lately, I always get a little apprehensive about going there when I think of her. But the sushi is worth it.

This place is pretty non-suspect and surprisingly good! I don't venture out here often but a few times that I've decided to move one store over from my usual pho, I've had the nigiri and sashimi here and its been fresh and nice. I also had the mackerel here and it was pretty good. This place isn't fancy but it is reasonably-priced and no-frills. I haven't had too many problems with the service. Its usually slow. The service isn't great but nothing was particularly wrong either. It's a good neighborhood Japanese restaurant!

An odd thing seems to happen each time I go to a Korean sushi restaurant: I enter intending to order the regular chirashi bowl, but upon perusing the menu I get tempted by the Korean-style chirashi (hyedupbap). I ponder my options for a moment, and decide on the hyedupbap because it (a) is usually a few dollars cheaper (b) has more vegetables, and (c) is generally a little hard to find. I then enjoy my meal, but almost always leave wishing I had ordered the regular chirashi. I'm not sure why this happens, but the result is that I feel compelled to return within the week to get closure by ordering the regular chirashi. This very thing happened here, with the exception being that I was only passing through the Seattle area on my first visit, so I had to wait a full month before I was able to stop for the second meal on my return trip. In any case, both trips were worth it, as both varieties of chirashi were very good.

I don't understand why everyone raves about this place. We were there on a Monday night - there were 3 of us. The only other customer in the whole place was one guy sitting at the counter. The miso soup and the little salad and stuff that they brought in the beginning was fine, nothing special. The sushi was just not that great. A lot of it was cold, too cold to taste - like it had just been taken out of the fridge. (The tobiko, in particular, was so cold it was like it had been frozen and not thawed completely.) The rolls were not made well so they kept falling apart. The servers kept picking up our cups and bowls and stuff by the rims, touching the rims where you put your mouth, which would be a great way to spread germs. I won't be back. And for how lousy it was, it was expensive. Sushi Land in Lynnwood (conveyor belt sushi) was better.

DON'T COME HERE if you're looking for good sushi at a reasonable price!! First off, the owners are Korean...That should ring an alarm. Second, the two times I came here, all the customers were white...and so are most of the yelpers on this page who think this place has good food. Third, the portion for the price is HORRIBLE!! You're going to get ripped off. I got a sashimi platter and it costs about $15 for 12 pieces of tiny sashimi...WTF?? Fourth, the complimentary dishes that come with your meal was ridiculous! I received maybe 4 pieces of shriveled up edamame, ice berg lettuce with some nasty "sesame"dressing, and miso soup that tastes like it was made from a powder from a packet from BooHan next door. Last, I was excited to maybe eat a chirashi bowl like I have down in Seattle...This place offers chirashi....but the fish is cut up and mixed with veggies and Korean hot sauce...What the hell is that? There are far better places and cheaper too. This place is not authentic. Even though Misoya is also owned by Koreans, the price for their sashimi and portion is worth it....And at least they can serve up some quality sushi. Also, go to Taka Sushi for some legit Japanese food.

Two for this restaurant This two stars only for the location and the service. Food, not good, I feel something is not fresh. Price a bit high I hope they make an improvement

This is a great place to go for sushi on a budget night. The food is fresh and the portions ok. I think they could do a little better on the salads, they remind me of a cafeteria. You can get two people in for dinner for less then $25 though so I will come back on those days I need some sushi but don't want to spend much out.

If you're craving sushi, Sushi Moto is the place to go! It's located in Edmonds, but definitely worth the drive. The fish is always fresh, the presentation excellent, and the staff friendly. Miso, edamame, salad and/or broccoli w/ sesame dressing are served not long after arriving. I've noticed requests for water, forks, and other particulars aren't always taken care of very quickly, but the place is usually busy so a bit of patience won't hurt. That said, the sushi platters are brought out amazingly quick for the large orders we like to place. I always order sushi and Sapporo, though there are plenty of other options on the menu. One fancy roll to try is the Fire Mountain!

This is the best place for sushi in north Seattle. It is very traditional, even though the sushi chef and his wife are Korean. There aren't too many places that give you the fried shrimp head when you order amaebi. Sounds gross I know..but they're really good. If you sit at the sushi bar you will be entertained by the sushi chef. The prices are reasonable for Japanese and their bento is decent but I would stick to sushi.

Used to go to Yamasan in Bothell, until they closed, moment of silence please...no more Crunchy Washington Roll. Moving on...sadly...a friend referred us to Sushi Moto to try the super white tuna roll. Well, I had been here before and had some decent salmon teriyaki but didn't remember anything too special...well that is because I didn't try the crunch white tuna roll! That is the best! So pretty I need to take a picture of it! On my last visit the crunch salmon roll was on special so we got that too, both very good. If you are looking for tasty rolls, I would try Sushi Moto.

I've been there only once so far, but my inlaws go fairly regurlarly.Would love to go again soon because I really liked it there. Hubby liked his bento box, which had a variety of good items. I had the zaru soba, which had great texture and just the right temperature. Also ate the crunchy crab rolls and loved those. They had a nice spicy bite to them. Kimchi was very yummy and they replenished the empty dishes right away.

I wish I could rate this restaurant a 6 star. It's delicious and affordable. Best sushi place ever, I tell ya! I can order 2-3 rolls, and be happily stuffed. Their sushi rolls are gi-normous. They're all pretty good too. My favorite rolls are the spicy crunch roll, rainbow roll, and moto special. The Fire Mt. Roll is also pretty BOMB. You gotta try it if you come here. It's well worth the $9. I'm pretty sure they know me by now because I have been there so many times.

OMG! I consider myself a sushi snob and Sushi Moto is my favorite place. I usually get the spicy tuna roll, rainbow roll and the halibut sushimi. The chicken udon soup is so heavenly and is my go to soup when I'm sick or have a slight hangover. Peter the owner and his wife are the sushi experts and always have a smile and nod when you walk in. They serve Korean beers or saki if you need something alcoholic to wash it down as well as soda and hot tea. You have the option of sitting at the bar or grabbing a table. They are open for lunch until 2 (closed from 2-5) and dinner starts at 5pm. Closed on Tuesday.

This was our first time here. Atmosphere was cute and the food was great. But the service was lacking. Our waiter was kinda rude. He had given us some miso soup and some other yummy appetizers but no spoon so we asked for spoons and instead of saying sure I'll go get you some he said "you can just drink from the bowl". At first I was in shock but then I thought well maybe that's just how they serve it here. Another thing the sushi chef was walking around barefoot and was sitting at the bar area with his feet propped up on another chair drinking a beer and watching videos on his phone (gross). The whole time we were there we felt like we were being rushed out. Mind you it was around 4 pm on a Sunday but they didn't close til 9 so I don't see why the big rush. Any way, such a shame cuz the food was great but I won't be coming back here anytime soon

We randomly found this place as tourists driving from Seattle to the San Juans. We were so pleasantly surprised!!! Quiet and lovely atmosphere! Great sushi and service! With out even ordering, they brought out salad, edamame, miso soup and this delicious small broccoli plate. The sushi was fresh and large pieces! Our 8 and 6 year olds stuffed their faces in sushi! I would recommend this place to anyone!

First experience was weekday dinner hour as a family of four and was just as I would have hoped. Fantastic selection of sushi that we all enjoyed. The Mt. Rainier rolls are amazing - well worth the expense. We all wound up sharing our meals because everything was just so flavorful. Service was friendly and quick. Appetizers of salad, edamame, broccoli and broth were served to each of us as well as hot tea for the adults. After a long day, it was nice to come to a relaxing atmosphere and feel kind of pampered at dinner. Fun music was on at a comfortable volume, lights seemed low and there was just an overall mellow atmosphere. Second experience was a weekday lunch for just the grown-ups. We both had the $6.99 daily special and it was much better than we had guessed it would be, based on the outside photo. The same appetizers came with the lunch which was an unexpected but welcome surprise. Same great service at a much busier hour.

The spicy crunch tuna will blow your mind! They have the freshest fish in Seattle. I highly recommend the white tuna!

Love sushi moto! The spicy tuna tempura roll is my all time favorite. The people are so welcoming and accommodating. This place a go-to for us on a regular basis. So glad we found good sushi in Edmonds!

This is an ok sushi spot that serves fresh fish and great udon. The sushi is over priced being that you pay an average of 6-7 dollars for each kind of roll with only 6 pieces, but it is very tasty and fresh. My boyfriend and I arrived near closing time and we were rushed to order by the waitress who told us that the kitchen was closing in a few minutes. I would probably visit this place only once or twice a year...maybe.

Came here for lunch before grocery shopping at 99 Ranch Market which was right across the street - very convenient. They offer different daily lunch specials with GENEROUS portion at an incredible price - $6.99. I tried the Udon Noodle Soup with Katsu Chicken, rice and salad special and my gosh, I was completely satisfied... at a food coma stage, perhaps. I wanted to try their sashimi but didn't have room, will definitely come back for that next time... from glancing at the menu for sashimi, sushi, nigiri and such, they were all reasonably priced. The waiter was also polite and friendly - great customer service! Brownie points for playing 90's old skool R&B! It was like they were playing off my playlist! I was quieting singing along during the meal, haha.

  • Aileen H.

They are pretty pricey and the food isn't worth it. Nothing special about it. The restaurant itself is dimly lit and are lined with these old dusty flowers with random music. They also have daily lunch specials that you can only see if you physically walk back outside to the window. Pretty disappointed.

Thanks for ruining my birthday dinner. My wife called ahead to confirm normal hours. Showed up at 845 when they close at 930 and they turned us away. Said they always close at this time. After a call and looking at the hours you have posted? Really great customer service. Lost a loyal customer.

If you love Sushi this is by far the best in the area. I have never had a bad experience there. I've tried sushi at all the other places that were recommended by friends or by others that live in the area and was disappointed to say the least. The fish is so fresh. I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because they are not open on Tuesdays which I find kind of random. It is the only reason that I would look elsewhere for sushi because when sushi is on your mind you must have it. Even if it's on a Tuesday! The sushi is fabulous at Sushi Moto so I would say definitely go there, but not on Tuesdays!

As someone previously has mentioned, this place is not kid/family friendly. Our family, two of us and 4 kids went, they were reluctant to sit us. They've had plenty of empty seats but we had to wait long time before being sat. Food was less than acceptable, soggy and on-chewy. At last, all my family had rash from food poisoning. Unless you're really really hungry, and don't mind getting food poison, I do not recommend this place.

Short story: Delicious food, accessible menu, accommodating staff, good atmosphere. Highly recommend! So, this is a non-sushi-lover's review of a sushi restaurant... I know, I know... 'but how?! How do you not loooove sushi?' You know what I say? 'How do YOU not love haggis, or balut, or...' You get the picture. In any case... It was fantastic! For my wife, who loved their sushi and for me, who loved all the other great stuff. I especially appreciated that the server started off by sharing what was freshest on the menu and encouraged my wife to try it. And get this, it was delicious and one of the cheapest sushi on the menu. She also got the spider roll (one of her favorites) and she was very happy with her choice. I had the chicken bowl (again, I know...) but I'll tell you what, it was no lame teriyaki. It was perfectly cooked chicken, with perfectly cooked rice, onions, and egg. And it had an extremely light sauce that complimented but didn't overpower anything. I promised my wife we can go here any time. With such an accessible menu and quality food we're really happy to have found such a great little gem. And I think you be glad too!!

Excellent, my daughter visiting from out of town, thought try a new sushi bar. Not disappointed at all. Sushi chef knows his craft. Fresh, flavor and great selection of fish. We enjoyed the giant clam, various tuna, and our favorite, eel. Sapporo beer, finished with mochi and tea.

After trying a bunch of other sushi places... I've realized that I was spoiled here at Sushi Moto & took it for granted, lol. I've been here a bunch more times & the service is always great. Sure, the water thing is a problem... but I'm willing to look passed that for the service & food. My boyfriend LOOOOOOVES their spyder rolls. Their Crispy/sesame California rolls are sooo yummy! OH! I just recently tried The SPICY CRUNCH ROLL. RECOMMEND! RECOMMEND! RECOMMEND! Seriously, it has crab, tempura bits & cucumber. So bomb! We braved the Northwest storm to come here to get our sushi fix after a not so satisfying sushi meal at Wasabi Factory. We have yet to find a sushi place that has the same quality. Yummmm!

Food is INCREDIBLE. Service is INCREDIBLE. You get so much with your meal. Love that you can take out. Being fresh is a big thing-I don't have any concerns about this place. :) I love that when we dine in, they serve Salad, Miso, Edamame and you get a sweet pineapple dessert. :) LOVE sitting at the bar and watching them do such art and learning. They're always very accommodating. Last time we were there my husband spilled his soy sauce all over himself... Was there last night and I spilled my Miso all over myself, my husband, and the floor... They're always so nice about our messes and fast to get help with genuine concern on if we're ok. I appreciate them.

I've become a regular customer at sushi moto since 2006. Their sushi is wonderful. Because the main sushi chef has been working as sushi man for over 30 years. That's why his sushi is fresh and tasty. Btw if you don't like wasabi, you have to tell him first before order, because originally sushi is supposed to have wasabi, when sushi had come to states, American couldn't eat wasabi, then sushi man took away wasabi from sushi. Anyway, their foods are made by main sushi chef, except rolls. For example, all small dish foods, salad, all sauce(except soy sauce), udon broth, Korean style jelly for dessert, etc.. I can tell that they put their true heart to the their foods. That's why there is no table on every weekends night. I recommend to go there on week day, then you can enjoy to taste sushi and all their food totally. And one more, they have several secret menu for sushi and roll, tell them 'I wanna have very special sushi and rolls not in menu.' Then they will make them for you.

I am very surprised that this place got so many good ratings. Environment - 2 This is as standard as it gets when it comes to a japanese restaurant. Tables, sushi bar, and those white and bamboo japanese walls everywhere. Service - 1 Firstly, the place was nearly empty with the exception of 2 tables and they sat us right next to a loud group of guys conversing about music. They came to our table one time and when I had mentioned I wasn't ready yet, they basically ran away before my wife could say anything about getting an appetizer. After that they took our order, brought us our food and gave us our check. No refill on my empty water or checking to see how the food is. Food - 1 Green tea was microwaved (heard the microwave beep) and tasted really old with no hint of green tea flavor in it at all. Edamame was microwaved as well; not moist, lacking flavor. The sushi rolls tasted great but were extremely disappointing because they were roughly two times the size of a normal sushi roll and loosely rolled making them nearly impossible to eat. In addition, 4/5 of their sushi menu has tempura or something fried in it. Overall - 1 The blandness of everything, the poor service, the poor construction of sushi at a SUSHI restaurant can in no way surpass a 1-start rating even if the sushi itself tasted pretty good.

I was gonna give it 4 stars but one of the 5 sushi pieces i got was horrible. Yes its only 1 of the 5 pieces, and I don't want to sound like some snob but when you serve me a raw piece of fish that looks bad its saying something about your restaurant.

  • Jeff F.

Inconsistent. The sushi is actually good when the Sr. Sushi chef was there, but last visit the Jr. Sushi chef really messed up dinner. Diarrhea 6.0 magnitude on the Richter scale. It's not worth the risk, not recommended.

The atmosphere of this place gave off a Japanese Korean fusion feel. The menu consisted of a lot of Korean BBQ Terriyaki chicken combos as well as rolls. I ordered a spicy roll combo which consisted of spicy tuna, albacore, and salmon rolls. These rolls consisted mostly of half green onion and very little fish. My friend got a spicy sashimi rice bowl. This bowl had bibimbap inspiration due to coming with a spicy kochujang based sauce on the side. Overall the sushi was mediocre at best. Would probably not try again.

I don't often give this high of a rating. However, for taste, price points, friendliness, efficiency, ambience...they all get 5 stars . I've been half a dozen times since finding this little gem of a sushi bar in the weird restaurant wasteland that is Edmonds. It *is* in a strip mall, so parking can be a little tight at times, but wow - the fish is fresher than every place I've been in downtown Seattle. Twice I've had the daily bento special -only $6.99 - and can literally feed two people, and is delicious.

Probably not fair I knock a point off for not being much of a sushi fan, but it's my girlfriend and I's first date spot so I have to come. The sushi is plentiful, good and such. Their tea is horrible unless you like the taste of trees. I only order the philly roll and spicy crunch roll, everything else is okay to me. It's the best sushi place I've been to, but I'm not a fan of sushi at all.

I've been a semi-regular here for a couple of years, and what a great couple of years they've been! The food is all consistently good, authentic sushi. I have tried a lot of sushi places, and this place is definitely in the top 3. The service is good, not perfect, but no complaints. It also has a nice, fairly quiet ambiance. The prices are on par with other good sushi places.

I ate here a bit of years ago. Since, I have ate at more than a few dozen sushi place. Although the staff was nice, I found the portions to be a bit small, and fish not being quite up to par with other places in the large area. Its pretty rare I leave a sushi place and don't have a great feeling about it. This place just did not cut it. I had some Nigeri and Sashimi. Although the prices were on-par with sushi joints, the portions were not.

This review is to make up stars for those who bothered to leave low reviews for this place. I'm easy to please, when I go out, my expectations are simple. It's sushi! As long as it's fresh and delicious! :D I don't listen to microwave dings and get offended. Everything was so wonderful, fresh, great presentation, atmosphere, close to home, great selections and prices. I will come here again. I love that there are so many good choices of asian food places close to home, that strip mall has some competition. :)

Here is why being in a relationship is great. Me: I want sushi. Other: I know a place. Me: Oh dear gawd, why are you pulling into a strip mall off hwy 99?!? Other: shut up. I can't tell you how many dinner destinations have started with a similar dialog. And this dinner, like many others where I seem to have no say over anything, ended with me being very satisfied. Let's start with basics. Green Tea. It's silly I know, however I am one that likes a little flavor in my green tea (blame the Germanic roots) but usually get stuck with hot water that a tea leaf was passed over. Here, probably the best Sushi Joint Green Tea I've ever had. It was followed by miso soup, another dish I tend to play with but not really care much about. Here, delish. I also have Sushi Moto to thank for my conversion from a maki man to a nigiri fan. We ordered a sampling of both styles, and where the maki we got was good and fresh, it wasn't anything I haven't had before and it had me reaching for the soy sauce and American wasabi. But then came the nigiri - a calamari steak with mint, yellow tail, and something else I can't remember. Yum oh yum. Those pieces could very well be the baseline I judge all other's nigiri going forward. Wrap all that up with a friendly staff that paces you meal slow enough for you to relax and enjoy but never feel like you're waiting, and you've got a sushi place worth going out of your way for!

Love this place. Lots of food for very reasonable prices. Service is great, and they're very accommodating for large groups.

One of my favorite sushi places up north. Parking: they've got a shared lot in the boohan plaza Ambiance: the typical run-of-the-mill bamboo everywhere - 2 TVs mounted above the sushi bar, not loud Service: well - it's iffy - sometimes they come by to refill water/tea, sometimes they don't. Food: considering that this is not a fancy sushi place downtown, it's pretty good. I like the variety of non-raw choices that they have & it's fresh. Recommendation: if you live around this area, it's the go-to place for quick sushi fixes.

What a surprise once you walk in the door! Transported from strip mall exterior to clean, sharp and relaxing interior. And although it was Saturday night and a crowd there we were waked on immediately and given soup, veggies and hot tea as we perused menu Since I don't eat sushi I was thrilled to see a lot of great choices that I would enjoy. Tempura, rice bowls with chicken or beef etc. And the combo sushi plate put a smile on my spouses face. Theres a very experienced sushi chef here My husband had enough to bring a box home. Again perfect service!

Spicy crunchy tuna roll!! Love it and of course, my favorite! Try it - the location is alright as well as the parking, but what do you have to lose.

Probably one of the top three or four sushi places I've been to. Great service and excellent selection.

Horrible! My friend and I ordered some rolls and sushi & sashimi combinations. The dragon roll was a joke! It was just a piece of eel on to of a california roll! At $12.95, they could have added some kind of sauce on it or made the rolls bigger. Dry and tasteless. The spicy tuna and yellow tail, no flavor lots of mayonaise or something. The nigiri was not fresh and served luke warm. It had a rubbery texture to it. The place had a distinctive smell to it, like rotting fish. The smell would come and go depending on the central air conditioning. Aside from the food, the service wasn't great either. The waitresses do not smile or engage in any kind of conversation, barely a "hi". We've tried other sushi places in the northend and this one has to be the worst!

Family-operated, goooood prices (average $10pp for lunch and comparable prices for dinner), I highly recommend the lunch combos which ARE available on weekends! (Seriously, this does not happen often, in my experience, so it's a deal to be had.) High quality seafood, delicious udon for those cold days, awesome soba for the hot days. Don't forget a bite of mango, green tea or red bean ice cream afterward! Our family goes here because we can always find something for everyone in our picky family and it doesn't hurt our wallets either. P.S. They have private rooms on the side, which is great for family time!

I walked in out of a light rain on a February afternoon and made eye contact with the waitress followed by the sushi chef and headed toward the bar the waitress gave me a place and some tea.I sat at the bar. i sat back and took a sip of my seaweed flavored green tea. Not my favorite, but hey! its free isn't it. they never give me water when i sit down but I am being picky. I order the sushi combo with the spicy tuna. it comes with the chefs choice plus a roll of your choice. I love chef choice items personally because chefs love to put there little mad scientist recipes and really good food out there simple as that. they serve u a trio of apps. one of which is a chilled broccoli salad with a slightly tart vinaigrette. Soooo tasty i wish i could get an entree sized portion. I love it perfect starter to a meal. i get 10 or so hand rolls with seared tuna, toro, yellowfin, snapper, eel with Bonita flakes fresh salmon belly, and it is all very fresh and top rated but when i took a bite of spicy tuna my life was forever changed...ha well i dont know about that but this was a perfect example of excellence. they use this thick japanesse mayo and chopped tuna and mix with freshly toasted sesame seeds. every ingreadiant complements your taste buds in a blissful moment. try the spicy tuna best in town. under 20bucks and you can feel good about what you ate. its amazing -DY

I went to this place with 3 other friends. Two of us ordered Korean style chirashi (spicy hyedupbap), one ordered chirashi, and another one katsudon. Hyedupbap didn't have that much sashimi in it, which I was disappointed about but the taste of their food was pretty good in general. Also, I wish the waiter would have quietly put down the dishes on our table, instead of dropping them loudly...

This is a little gem north of Seattle. I can't tell you about fried food or teriyaki or bento boxes or spider rolls or any other such stuff, but I can tell you that the sashimi is always fresh and prepared with care and presented with style. The selection may not be as big as in the fancy Seattle sushi bars, but what they have is always excellent and a big meal here will cost you about 2/3 of what it would in town. Add to your sashimi a sunomono or other little salad and you have a meal! Why goop up your fish with rice and soy sauce and batter and sweet sauce when it tastes so good with just a touch of lemon juice? Let your taste buds grow up....or are you still drinking chocolate milk with your meals? Service can be a little abrupt at times when it gets busy, but it's really a friendly place once you get past that. Well worth stopping by if you are in the area and want a good sushi experience.

Another review I would give a place 3-1/2 stars, but they are closer to four so there you go. The Good: The best sushi north of the U-District. Expert preperation, very fresh, large portions, diverse menu beyond Sushi with gracious owners. Chef owned/operated so quality standards are adhered too. The Bad: Service can be off. Very off. I suspect one of the servers is a family member or relative and it is a case of, "buddy, you really should quit your day job and find something else." The issue is inattentive service - experienced it several times. It is a shame because it has taken away from an otherwise outstanding restaurant. With that said, just sit at the sushi bar and enjoy the best sushi you can find north of SH-520. It is worth the trip!

I have been eating sushi since I was a kid. Even went to a sushi bar in Tokyo when I was a kid with my mom and her friends. This was not sushi Japanese style. For people who know me, I am a nice person. I do not complain unless it is really bad. The service was not poor. It was offensive. I was still eating when we got the bill.

This place is a sushi bar that you would probably never think of going to. Located in a strip mall off Hwy 99 in Edmonds it has probably the best Sushi you can get north of Seattle. Sushi there is always fresh and guaranteed to make you smile. If you like unagi you will think you have died and gone to heaven. Also, they have more sushi available behind the counter that is not on the menu if you know how to ask for it.

One of the the things I love most about Seattle is the great selection of sushi places. I've been to Sushi Moto few times and after the last time I'm afraid I won't be going back. We sat by the door for a while waiting for a table and when we were seated we watch two other tables, seated after us, have their drink orders taken and one even got their appetizers before we even met our server. Something my wife and I noticed both times was that it smelled like low tide in there. Yeah, I know, I know, "It's a SUSHI place"...I've been in scores of sushi places and none smelled like the docks in Ballard. We ordered a selection of sashimi and sushi. For an appetizer we got miso and edamame. The miso was decent but the poor edamame looked like it had been microwaved to long and was so shriveled and unappetizing looking that we didn't finish it. The sushi arrived and it just didn't seem fresh. The texture was off and it seemed a bit dry and chewy. It's sad to say but even Blue C has better sushi, and it comes on a conveyor belt. If this was one of the only places in town I might go back but there are way to any other options for sushi in the Seattle area to settle for Sushi Moto.

Easily the best sushi we've found in the north end. We've been going here for at least five years, and it's our favorite local sushi joint. It doesn't try to be flashy. It just serves up high quality sushi every time. Their fish is always fresh -- try the salmon and the fatty albacore. Other reviewers are right, the Moto Special roll is a must order (I also love the cucumber rolls with "crunch" on the outside). And if you're not in the mood for sushi, other items on the menu (udon, for example) are consistently good, as well. Service is mostly very prompt, though on busy weekends, you might find your order is delivered in stages. But if you're looking for good, reasonably priced sushi in the north end, you must visit Sushi Moto.

This is a great little place! The prices are very reasonable and the food is great! The menu is quite big and they give you complimentary tea, soup, edamane, broccoli and lettuce. Definitely worth checking out the staff is very friendly and they have 3 private seating rooms as well!

Great, affordable sushi place. Most of their menu is Japanese, but they have a few Korean dishes as well. I've had truly "amazing" sushi at those places you have to wait 90 minutes for a table (e.g., Nishino in Seattle or Yama, Blue Ribbon, or Nobu, in NYC). While places like that are indeed better the competition, the incremental increase in quality is not worth the premium they extract from you (often double the price), not to mention the interminable wait. Let's start with the sushi. The albacore tuna and sockeye salmon sushi were both fresh and melted in my mouth. The super white tuna roll was the best. Super white tuna on the outside, with avocado, tempura chips, and other veggies on the inside. The yellowtail/scallion roll was good, but standard. The miso soup lacked. Big time. But I can overlook it because the sushi was wonderful. They gave me four Korean banchans (side dishes), even though I only ordered sushi. A little odd, but I welcomed it. They brought me generous helpings of seaweed salad and 3 different kinds of kimchi. Each of these items would have cost $1.50 on the menu, but they seem to provide these dishes on a complimentary basis to Koreans. Their udon is good and satisfies a craving in a pinch. Their Korean seafood stew is also good, but not great. Their broiled fish, like mackeral, is quite tasty. I wouldn't come here for their limited Korean menu. Go for their sushi instead. Total bill was $24! So cheap, for the amount of food I got. The service was surprisingly attentive. I was very impressed. I'll be back for sure.

I have been here many times and I LOVE it. A very friendly family operated establishment. Hands down THE BEST sushi rolls in the city. (Maybe even the country) I love the spicy crunchy tuna rolls and the moto special the best. The sushi itself is great and because I am a loyal customer the owner has at times given me a few things to try on the house. Oh, and you get this great broccoli salad, edamame, and miso soup as apps for free. Toyoda's in Lake City is another great one, but this is THE place for the Edmonds area.

sushi mushi... can it be good in edmonds? yes kekekekkek btw I am reviewing this by edmonds standards... four because of location, but 3 if it were in seattle.. the rolls are pretty tasty, and the nigiri is not the best that i've ever had.... edible... but not melting in my mouth. I feel like all sushi restaurants are about the same in price, but not the same in quality.. The salmon terriyaki is cooked in a cast iron skillet, and it is pretty tasty!! I know did I say salmon terriyaki at a sushi restaurant was pretty tasty... I came here after work to get some dinner, and I remembered smelling it before...and I am glad i got that instead of sushi.. btw : They give you complimentary miso soup, a few pods of edamame, some weird mayonaise broccoli, and a small salad :) score!!!!
