We ended up here on happenstance, really. We had just finished battling the morning crowds at Costco and worked up healthy lunch appetite. Dumplings sounded good, so I did a quick search to see if we could get any nearby. Dumpling Generation came up so we decided to head over. I can remember this strip mall since I was a little girl, when it housed pizza hut and blockbuster. Increasingly it's become another little hub for Asian eateries and gift shops. If I'm not mistaken, Dumpling Generation used to be a bubble tea place, but the last time I visited was almost 10 years ago so my memory might be fuzzy. It's very possible since Dumpling Generation also serves it up. Despite the less-than-stellar condition the strip mall has fallen to, you wouldn't believe it when you step into DG. It's open, modern, airy, and clean. The woman who helped us immediately greeted us and was extremely friendly and attentive. We ordered the mix noodles and chicken celery dumplings. Both were very good! We may have gobbled it all up if we didn't get so full on those two dishes alone. Like others have mentioned, the dumplings come out hot hot hot! I didn't wait long enough to dig into my first one and it seared my mouth. The server warned about this, but I guess I am used dumplings showing up not as hot as they should be. Next time, I will get the dumplings again but will probably try a different dish from the mixed noodles. They were good, but nothing that I would randomly crave with my dumplings. That said, we will definitely be back again. The prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the food is fantastic. Best of all, it's much closer and less crowded than a few other good dumpling spots.

I love this place. The dumplings are delicious and plentiful, the noodles are nicely chewy and the colorful Chinese salad is, in fact, colorful and well as well seasoned. And even though they have metal chopsticks, the food has enough texture that they are easily used.

Clean, bright, pretty. Cold appetizers were my favorite. Dumplings however were not. Its almost felt like they were frozen. Only because I can see the kitchen and I didn't see a lot of rolling. Perhaps, they rolled it prior and cook to order? I don't know. I think they were a ok from what I've remember. Not going to lie though. The name got me really excited. But the place and flavors didn't quite match. Bubble tea however was quite good. And love the free appetizers. Kimchi, cold noodles, seaweed etc! I'll give it a shot if I'm in the area but won't be traveling far for it.

Food is okay. Service is so-so. I felt rushed by the server. However, frequent closures without proper notification on their web have driven me nuts. This has happened three times over the period of last 12 months. Restaurant owner, not posting your temporary closure on your existing web sites is hurting your business. You could have done a better job.

This was a great find, hid away in the back of a strip mall. There were so many unique things on the menu that you don't see at other asian restaurants in the area. It was hard to decide what to get. The dumplings were fantastic, and the noodle bowls with ground pork was great. Huge proportions and very affordable, too. The service was really great, and the place is really bright and clean. I definitely recommend!

I wanted to like this place. If I could, I would give it two and a half stars. Going to Chinese restaurants can be difficult for me because my mother is such a fantastic cook that most other eateries pale in comparison to hers. The space is clean, kind of modern cafe-ish with dark chairs and tiled floors. They have pictures of the food all over the walls, which helps when you want to visualize the food you may want to order. The lady who served us was friendly and affable, helpful with the menu. My brother and I stopped by for a late lunch, around 2 PM and found the restaurant empty which makes sense for the late hour. We ordered the shrimp fried rice, mixed noodles with pork and soybean sauce, and the pork and chive dumplings. There are complimentary cold apps kind of like banchan that were fairly tasty. Shrimp fried rice- best dish we ordered. Large shrimp, egg, seasoned well, and tasty. Mixed noodles with pork and soybean sauce- we felt the ratio of sauce to noodle was off (not enough sauce) and we would have rather it came mixed already. It seemed a little silly for us to add the sauce, edamame, and cucumbers separately. May also have been sauced better if sauced by the chef, who could see that it needed more sauce. It was a little bland. Not that great. Pork and chive dumplings- we ordered these steamed, they can also be boiled. The lady said she preferred boiled because it was softer that way. I had found that sometimes boiled dumplings end up a little waterlogged so we went with steamed. The skin of the dumpling was a little thick. I had expected hot soup in the dumpling, which smelled very strongly of chive, but there wasn't much. I think I expected too much of these-- other reviewers were comparing them to the XLB at din tai fung and I thought they would be closer to those, but no cigar. At all. The filling was very compact, as well. To me, these were a disappointment even tho they were just okay. Several hours later, my brother didn't feel too good and lunch was the only thing he ate all day. Perhaps his digestive system didn't like this place very much. I felt okay, but wasn't hungry for the rest of the night. Our dad ate the leftovers and didn't find them that great either. Sorry, Dumpling Generation!

SO GOOD. Little place but the staff ladies are really nice and accomodating and the food is great. The price might seem intimidating but the portions are really big, unless you're planning on a food nap later on one dish per person is more than enough. The spicy chicken was awesome, not saucy like i expected and not too salty either, it looked as if they specifically picked out the best pieces of meat to put in their food. Braised beef stew was just flavorful enough with alot of noodles, perfect balance. Would definitely take my more picky asian family members here.

Disclaimer: I have only been here once so far and have only tried the spicy mixed cucumber, chicken fried rice, and pork with spicy eggplant. Service, food, and price are great! I went with three other people and we all shared the dishes written above. The portions were not large but not small either (just medium size). I'm giving this place a 4/5 because the pork with spicy eggplant was a bit too sweet. I was expecting something a lot less sweet and more spicy. The dish was still good though. Will go back again if I'm in the area!

Such as it is, Lynnwood might not seem to have much in the way of an international district. There's no dedicated crossroads where you can find tons of food and cultures all in one grid. Instead, there's a strip of 99 that goes on for miles and miles and miles, with restaurant after restaurant in operation. When one falls, another one usually takes its place very quickly. One of the more condensed concentrations of restaurants is in this parking lot just north of the county line; Dumpling Generation is one of the newer occupants in this spot, but they are tearing it up already. The parking here can be a little tight when they are busy, but I've always been able to find a spot. Dumpling Generation isn't the splashiest storefront around here, but they're clean and well-lit inside and out. You walk in to a small dining room with about 8 tables and a flat-screen or two showing Chinese-language TV. They bring around tea and ice water, and attractive heavy little menus with bright silver cords holding the spines together. There are about four small pages of noodles, appetizers, salads, and dumplings. You can see a few items pictured on the walls. We had spicy chopped cucumber to start, which was very good, along with spicy mixed cold noodle, which had great sesame and peppery flavors. Both showed fresh ingredients and good prep. We had pork and chive dumplings as well as pork and mushroom. They each had clear, simple flavors, showcasing the ingredients well without layering in extra seasonings to compete with the main notes. They come out very hot in bamboo steamer baskets; we waited about five minutes to eat. The four dishes totaled about $40 and filled the two of us up completely. I really like everything about this place and will definitely be back regularly.

If I could, I would rate Dumpling Generation as 3 1/2 stars. We stopped by for an early lunch on Saturday, and there were just a few tables occupied at the time. The space looks modern and clean, with some photos of the food on the walls. The menu is decent-sized, but I would have to agree with other reviews: not a ton of choices for dumplings. We ordered: Complimentary cold appetizers: seaweed salad, potato, and spicy noodles: my favorite was the noodles Seaweed salad and bean sprout salad: both were decent. I didn't realize that they offered free apps, so I probably wouldn't order these again. Seafood noodle soup: decent amount of seafood, with a slightly spicy soup base. Mixed noodles with minced pork and soy bean sauce: all components come separate, and you mix it in the large bowl. This was good, and authentic (per the wife). Pork and chive dumplings: these were decent, but be careful on the first bite: hot soup is inside. Overall, the food is good and the portions are pretty big. The two women at the front were friendly and gave us good service as well. I would stop by again for some more noodles (and maybe the hot pot) if I am in the area.

Got diarrhea after eating here.. I really don't need the terrible, messed up rude attitude service and bad food handling you guys have at your restaurant. If you're gonna have a business then at least act like you care about your business.

In my previous review I had made a mistake. This restaurant's cuisine is not from Taiwan and dumplings should not be confused with those common delicious spots serving XLB on the likes of Ding Tai Fung, 101 Noodle, etc. Please do not confuse as I have done. And thank you to the restaurant response for clarifying that misunderstanding. As for the review of the food itself, that still remains unchanged. I firmly believe every dining occasion should be an enjoyable experience. This was not an enjoyable experience. This was a "Less than a 1" star experience. Similar to other reviewers, I really wanted to like it. With a name like "Dumpling Generation," How could you go wrong?! Oh...so wrong You did go... The food lacked flavor. The noodles while soft and chewy lacked flavor infused from a broth that was missing something. The dumplings fell apart and the meat/vegetable center failed to exhilarate my senses, as a good dining experience should be. Overall the food was rather lackluster and felt like it was nothing special. To add, it was also interesting that when we came on what should be a busy weekend night, this place was empty. Our table at 7pm was the only table occupied in the restaurant.

So good! Really authentic and delicious food. I especially love the cold salads that come as appetizers! The service is really friendly and quick- I recommend this place to everyone in the area.

The name of the restaurant doesn't stand out too much, and neither does the exterior of this place; but don't be fooled by any of that! This place serves up some pretty dang good dumplings and fried rice. The dumplings are comparable to Din Tai Fung- same style in which it's served on a steaming tray, and has (I believe) the same number of dumplings. The difference, however is the price! Much cheaper, and it's just as good. The garlic fried rice is on point! Absolutely delicious. I ate almost half of the HUGE portion they serve. We also had to try the hotpot there... It was also very satisfying. We had plenty of food there... Those three dishes can serve up to 4-5 people easily! Next time we go, we'll probably order something else, just to mix things up. But will be coming back soon! Loved all of our dishes and the waitress was very sweet and kind. :-)

Let me give this place a formal review. I really like this place. I've lived in China before and this place reminds me of traditional Chinese dumplings that you would get in mainland China. Service is great. Food come out fast. You can also order frozen dumplings. Their noodle dishes are also pretty good. Beef noodle soup was excellent. From a price point, it's definitely worth the money.

weekend shopping trip from Vancouver To Seattle, randomly select this place on yelp, it then became the highlight of the trip. Everything is great, expect they close next day that we can't eat two days in a row. Love it and will come whenever we down south. Try steamed dumplings and marinated beef

    I. Can't. Stop. Coming. Dumplings and homemade noodles galore. Oh my goodness YAAAZZZZ if you like spicy then get those spicy cold noodles they serve you in the beginning haha sorry don't know the name. But try them. And the chive and pork dumplings are to die for. I actually feel like I could be back in Hong Kong again.

This place was really good and the prices were low. The boa boa tea was the best I've had. We got the lychee and taro flavors and we couldn't get enough. So freakin good! I would drive all the way back for the tea. I got the pineapple fried rice. A lot of flavor and not soggy. Definitely recommend the fried rice. We got the egg and spinach dumplings. I wasn't a huge fan. I shared them with a vegetarian so I have no idea if the actual meat dumplings are any good. If still highly recommend this restaurant.

  • Jessica B.

I loved their food! We got the fried rice, chicken noodles, spicy chicken, steamed and boiled pork and chive plus pork and mushroom dumplings. Everything was SO good - the only thing I wasn't a fan of was the boiled dumplings. Just get the steamed - takes longer to cook but so much better. Coming back for sure!

What a gem! We ordered three dishes anticioating small portions. Food portions delivered were super generous for a decent price. Our waitress also brought us some sample appetizers. Love the dumplings and noodle dishes (soup and without). Potatoes were uniquely good.

Dumplings was ok. But the noodles or the chow mein was delicious. There's not alot of options on the menu. The owner however gave us a free bowl of beef noodle soup which we appreciate very much on my brothers birthday, thank you!

This hidden gem on the side off I-99 in Shoreline will rock your world. Between 2 people, we spent $30 and got 12 delicious dumplings, pork cold-noodles and a HUGE seafood sizzling pot filled with super-fresh fish, shrimp and mussels. The quantity of food was insane and the flavor/quality was off the charts. Highly recommended!

The food here is delicious. My wife and I always get the chicken chow mein and chicken dumplings with mushrooms. We go here at least once a week.

Excellent food at a great price! It reminded me of some of the best meals I've had in Guangzhou, China (where I used to live). Highly recommend the cold spicy noodles!

  • Jade L.

Surprisingly good dumplings, they were juicy like xlbs. I also got noodles with pork and soybean paste, which was good, but nothing special. Beef noodle soup (bns) was just ok too. I liked the texture of the noodles, soup wasn't flavorful enough, beef was good. I think my main qualm about all the food I got was that it was just warm, not hot. You would think a noodle soup like bns should be piping hot, but it was lukewarm. Meh.

Don't be fooled. This place makes more than dumplings. The noodle dishes are great. The pork dumplings? Omgomg. Yum!

I'm from Northern China, Liaoning Province and my mom spoils me with home made dumplings all the time. In the Seattle area, there's not many non-cantonese seafood style restaurants so when I heard this dumpling place was opening up, I totally got excited and just had to try it. We ordered what would be considered a Ja Jiang Mien and two types of dumplings. And they were all great. The portions on the noodles were big. I think ordering one order for two people to share alongside dumplings is more than enough. The dumplings were boiled (they have steamed ones as well) and the celery and pork ones were my favorite. The filling to wrapper ratio felt just right. One of my biggest gripes about dumplings sometimes is that it's overly stuffed with filling. It takes a careful hand to wrap it just perfectly! The only thing I'd say is missing from this place (and this is being nitpicky) is a home made dipping sauce. Dumpling places need their own sauce and if this place had that, I think it'll just make it that much better. Service is also great! The owner is very attentive and the wait staff are extremely nice. Definitely a must try!

From perspective of a native Chinese, I recommend this restaurant! They made very good and authentic northern style Chinese food. I was traveling from CA and happened to see this restaurant on Yelp nearby my hotel. That night they were almost closed so they run out of some of the cold appetizer. The lady from the store gave me samples of three appetizer they have left (cold noodle, sliced potato and veggie) FOR FREE!! The cold noodle tastes wonderful!!! We ordered beef noodle soup and there are a lot of delicious beef! I will definitely come back next time if I come to Seattle!

Seriously legit! Why? *Delicious hand-made dumplings of the pork-stuffed variety *The most enjoyable pot of jasmine tea I've ever had (usually it's too light for my taste) *Enticing pictures of the menus items strategically place on the walls *Super friendly, efficient, and helpful staff *Northern Chinese-influenced food that tastes like real Chinese food and not American Chinese food *Chinese cable tv for ambiance *Egg fried rice that isn't fatty or greasy *Deliciously flavored braised beef noodle soup *A clean establishment *Reasonable prices After all those business trips to China, I tried to swear off of American Chinese food because I thought it was irreverently terrible. I did slip with a couple, and that means two, dim sum trips since I've been here in Seattle. This place has been the first place that I felt that the food tasted exactly the way it is made in China. Our server told us that the food was made just like it is made "back home" and that is reason enough for me to be excited about returning here. If you ever want to try real Chinese food, this is the place to do it. And that, folks, is why this place is legit.

Party of five on Sunday afternoon. This is a northeast china style restaurant (Shenyang.) We ordered vegetable pot soup; with side dishes (leng pan) of spicey - cold noodles, cucumber, pork ears, and potatoes; and a double order of freshly made steamed shrimp and black mushroom dumplings, and, chive and egg dumpling. The service was excellent and all dishes well prepared. Definitely will go back again soon. The dumplings are made from scratch an appear to use the freshest ingredients.

OK, so this place is across the street from my house which might be tainting my review a little bit BUT Every time I go in here the super cute little ladies running the joint recognize me and immediately dash over to get my order. I have tried everything on the menu, and everything is good but the dumplings are really where the magic happens. You can't beat the price, and no matter what you order you get a bunch of amazing Chinese sides with your food. I've tried all the other dumpling places up and down 99 (there are quite a few) and this one is by far the best! Even if you don't happen to live across the street from it I highly recommend giving this place a try (and shooting some pool right next door or karaoke in the same complex)!

  • Stephanie C.

I can't give it anything less than five stars because there is nothing to complain about! I've tried the dumplings, noodle bowls, and hot pot. They all hit the spot based on the mood you're in. I recommend coming with a few people so you can get multiple dishes to try. The lady server is very friendly, asks if you've been in before, then makes recommendations for your. The menu is just the right size where it won't make you question one dish over the other. I enjoy the sides they bring out prior to your meal. This place is tucked away in a cramped strip mall, but I've never had a problem finding parking.

What we ordered: spicy cold noodles, spicy chicken, pork and celery steamed dumplings Pros: service was friendly and good, food was amazing (everything was savory), decently priced, clean Cons: none Definetly will come back to try other dishes.

Dumpling Generation is just past the Shoreline-Edmonds city border and right next door to Hosoonyi. Upon entry, you are greeted by a very friendly wait person and shortly thereafter handed menus and a big pot of jasmine tea. Don't really need the menus since items are printed on the back wall near the kitchen. Plus the entire restaurant has large colorful photographs of most of the featured main dishes. We ordered the following: Pork with Spicy Eggplant ($8.95, $1 extra for a bowl of steamed rice) Mixed Noodles with Pork and Soybean Sauce ($6.95, generous serving of handmade noodles, minced pork, fresh bean sprouts, thinly sliced cucumber, and fresh soybeans) Steamed Pork with Chives Dumplings (a dozen for $7.95, with accompanying dipping sauce) While we were waiting, we were also given a trio of their cold appetizers to sample which included bites of spicy potatoes, seaweed salad, and a spicy sesame noodle salad. Definitely it got the taste buds into anticipation mode. I pretty much went to town on the eggplant entrée - piping hot, perfectly sauced, and not soggy. Perfect with bites of steamed rice. I snagged a sample of the noodle dish with all the accompaniments mixed together. What stood out was the perfectly toothy bite of the handmade noodles! The steamed dumplings were tasty but mild, but I still prefer the ones from Fu Man on Greenwood. These did the job without the Din Tai Fung price tag or hype though. We were getting rather stuffed as these were extremely generous servings, so most of these were boxed up for the kiddo later. I plan to return to try the Braised Beef Noodle Soup and definitely will come with a bigger appetite! Thanks fellow Yelpers for everyone's collective posts - most were spot on and convinced me to check Dumpling Generation out for lunch today!

Amazing braised noodle soup and hand made dumplings! The service is friendly and fast. Our family of 5 came here and ordered fried rice, ma po tofu, noodles and dumplings and shared it family style. I would recommend ordering a side of their cold noodles! Huge portions of cold noodles for $6.

  • Gary L.

Simple, clean, "homemade" Chinese food. Our family loves this place. It is VERY reasonably priced, the seating area is spacious and well-lit. We've enjoyed every dish we have tried, though I would say the dumplings are nothing special. Strange, I know, considering it's the namesake. I recommend the shrimp fried rice, pork mixed noodles, and "pickled veggie" noodle soup (off-menu I believe). Side note: don't get the bubble tea if you're looking for something authentic. This is the typical powdered artificially-flavored stuff.

This place is beyond awesome. The food alone is phenomenal and our server was really nice. We had some dumplings and a noodle dish that I have never had anywhere else and it was so good. This place definitely gives Din Tai Fung a run for their money. Go here if you love Chinese food!

Wanted to try a new place nearby and have to say this place was by far the worst service I've ever had. Our server was really rude and told us we were wasting her time. Then she walked away in the middle of telling her our orders, the restaurant wasn't even busy, there were at most 4 tables of people. We knew what we wanted and were in the middle of telling her our orders but apparently she wasn't happy that we didn't say the order fast enough. Eventually when she came back I ordered pork chow mein and there was barely any pork in it. The food was nothing special and actually pretty wet and greasy. Overall overpriced and not worth it for what you get at other places. Should have just gotten up and left after she walked away from us. Don't waste your time going here.

I like it here. The ambiance is great for a date. The food is even better. The Chinese style Ja Ja Men is spectacular. My favorite appetizer is the pig ears. My wife likes the shrimp fried rice. Don't forget the dumplings, absolutely wonderful layers of flavors that pop in your mouth.

The first time I went here I got my order to go. That was a mistake. The second time I decided to give it another chance and sit down. Boy was it like night and day. The food came out hot and the dumplings were good. I'm not sure why there are some negative reviews, I think a lot of people expected Taiwan style dumplings but this style originates from northeastern China, adjacent to the North Korean border. The steamed dumplings were perfectly cooked and had a good balance of pork and onion flavors. The spicy chicken was good, they achieve a crispy outside with a tender inside without deep frying or battering it. Pretty amazing. Soups were good too. I'd recommend.

I've always been afraid to review this hidden gem, but I just can't keep it a secret any longer hahaha. I never would have known this place existed were it not for Yelp. My husband & I have visited several times & have not been disappointed.Their food is delicious! I love the fact that it's always fresh & not greasy. The staff is friendly as well. So far we have tried & love their shrimp fried rice, pork with black mushroom dumplings, spicy potato slices, spicy cold noodles, & their pork & black mushroom noodles! Their prices are pretty good & the portions are as well. Can't wait to return.

Best Chinese food I have had since leaving Vancouver, BC. The home style beef soup was magical melt in your mouth beef. The boiled dumplings were the perfect texture. Mapo Tofu was ridiculous. We will be back with friends. Such a find. I am so full and happy.

What a great find in the north end! The service was friendly, prompt, and most of all the food was amazing! I tried the egg fried rice, spicy chicken, and steamed pork and chive dumplings. After a nice 6 mile hike my boyfriend and I were craving for some dumplings and found this place. We ordered spicy cucumbers, pig ears, cold spicy mix noodles, 36 dumplings (cilantro, celery and mushrooms) yeah a lot of food for two people. :) EVERYTHING was delicious. I will definitely come back. I think my least favorite out of everything is the pork and celery dumplings but everything else was deeelicous! ^_^

So good! My favorite is the cold beef. The spicy food isn't as spicy as you think. I'm totally spice intolerant but I can totally handle all of it. So don't be afraid to order those "spicy" dishes!

A nice dumpling and noodle restaurant tuck in a plaza with Korean shops. We were seated immediately during lunch on a Sunday. The decor is modern with big pictures of their menu items hanging along the walls. The owner was very polite and attentive. Spicy pig ears were OK but it lacked a little savory flavor. After adding a little bit of soy sauce, it was good. Steamed pork with chives dumpling didn't taste greasy as other restaurants. Mixed noodle with pork and soy bean sauce was good. Braised beef noodle soup needed more spice like five spice to make it more tasty. We had better ones elsewhere.

Came here with a group of 6 and had pretty good service. The owner talked to us for a bit and gave us good recommendations. Split the pork and black mushroom dumplings, spicy cold noodles, and braised pork hot pot with another person. All were really good, and more than enough food for two.

My new favorite soup in Shoreline/Edmonds. Very tender braised beef, perfect chewy noodles, crunch to the vegetables. Our table also had the seafood hotpot, pig's ears, dumplings which were of homemade quality, and the fried rice and tofu and napa, which were standard but tasty. Will be back very frequently.

My new favorite Chinese restaurant in the area! Authentic taste and friendly staff. We ordered four appetizers and they are not bad. Had three different of dumplings and the waitress told us they are all hand made from scratch. The noodle dishes are delicious and remind me of the taste of China. I will probably come here more often.

Came here last night after seeing them on the Yelp New Business Openings List. They just opened 2 weeks ago. We ordered: Chinese Colorful Salad - This was surprisingly light and fresh. I really enjoyed it. Handmade Dumplings - I preferred the pork with chives slightly more than the pork with black mushroom and Napa cabbage, but both were good. Each came with a different kind of sauce. Skins were not Din Tai Fung thin, but not too thick either. Shrimp Fried Rice - Fairly simple, but tasty. The shrimp were plump. Braised beef noodle soup - Good flavor, nice large portion. Some pieces of beef were very lean, which meant they were a bit tough. We were the only diners in the restaurant throughout the meal. I think the owner served us and she was very helpful and attentive. It's a challenging location as it's not really visible from 99, but I hope they make it as others have failed here. I'd like to return soon.

Cute, modern, place. The ladies working here were very friendly and quick to bring out our food and refill out water glasses. We ordered the shrimp fried rice (which was awesome), mixed noodles with egg and peppers (the noodles were very fresh and also came with lima beans, which added a nice crunch) and steamed pork with celery dumplings (which were good, but did let me down as I was expecting greatness). There were delicious complimentary items as well. I wasn't fond that my food came out as courses, rather than one meal however. But for the food, the large portion sizes, and the price ($26) I am quite satisfied and will certainly be returning.

The dumplings here are just OK. I don't think they're made fresh in-house, unlike other dumpling places in the area, and the selection is actually quite slim. The other food we had was fantastic, though. The shrimp fried rice was outstanding, made with large fresh shrimp and perfectly sticky rice. The braised beef soup was good, and the cold appetizers were a great treat. We would go back for any of those things, but if we're craving dumplings, to Bellevue we'll go.

So... I really feel that a place called "Dumpling Generation" should have a few more dumplings on the menu. Seriously, there are only a few. The menu was small, and the food was okay. The dumplings themselves were so/so. Nothing to write home about. I was hoping for a dumpling option closer to home than U-Village, but I don't think I will be going back.

Yum! Perfect, light alternative to your average greasy Chinese food. Parking: Strip mall - right next to Hoosonyi tofu house Ambiance: Clean, new, huge lighted photos of the food - they must have a good camera because the resolution was pretty good :) Service: Okay, we had a wait a little to order even though there was only 1 other group, but the owner?/waiter was very nice and the food came out pretty quickly. Food: This is northeastern Chinese food - not heavy on the flavor or grease - dishes tasted light and healthy - perfect for summer days. The Good: 1. Chinese colorful salad - dish was larger than expected - great mix of fresh julianned veggies and sauteed pork - definitely get this dish 2. Seafood hotpot - YUM! It's got a light broth with lots of veggies and a sprinkling of seafood. We'd get this again. 3. Spicy mixed potato slices - not too spicy, but the firmness of the potatoes was nice, good chilled dish for a hot day 4. Handmade dumplings - you can order them either steamed or boiled. The boiled ones were very tender, the steamed ones ended up being a little tougher - maybe over cooked - so it's up to you what texture you like better. Both the pork with chives and the pork with mushroom and cabbage were good - we'd order both again. 5. Spicy mixed cucumber - will order this one again - good flavor. So-So: 1. Egg fried rice - not too greasy - it's pretty much only got egg though, only a few peas and pieces of corn, can taste the MSG. My son liked this, but if it were me, I'd pass 2. Spicy mixed cold noodles - was okay, again the flavor focused on soy sauce and didn't have that much depth Not so much: 1. Spicy mixed pig ears - nothing special, mostly soy sauce taste (although I should say my dad really liked this dish) 2. Seaweed - I didn't really like it that much, not much flavor Recommendation: If you're looking for something on the lighter, healthier side, this is the perfect place! I expect to be going back again, and again... :)

Simply delicious dumplings and fried rice. Epic portion sizes. Really enjoyed my meal. The folks that run the place are pretty amazing as well. Super friendly, not a long wait for food. Will I return? Oh you bet.

Even with all the Chinese restaurants in the Seattle area, it is difficult to find a Chinese restaurant that it is so good that you can't wait to go back. This passed the test. The food was excellent. We ordered two types of dumplings because it is a dumpling place. Dumplings are made from scratch on the premises and they were very tasty. The eggplant dish with pork as well as the spicy tofu were also delicious. The menu is quite limited however it makes it easier to order. And all four out of four dishes we ordered were keepers. We'll be back!

A friend and I visited today thinking it was a different place my friend used to go to. The food was very good, though. My friend ordered the steamed pork and chives dumplings and the spicy chicken. The chicken had a very slight crunch to it and was very savory. I ordered the shrimp fried rice. The shrimp seemed really fresh and good. Their bubble tea was the best I've had so far! (I'm from Chicago.) WA seems to use powders for flavoring (Chicago uses fresh/real fruit), often not tasting so great, but the mango one I had was really good. I'll have to go back and try the other flavors. The only issue is that this small plaza is somewhat hard to navigate and get into if you're heading North on 99. It was a nice place, very clean, and the waitress (and owner?) was very nice.

Had the dumpling with mushrooms and napa cabbage. It was okay, but their shrimp fried rice was very tasty. Prices were average and service was excellent.

Stopped by this place after a Costco run and was super impressed. Like most Chinese restaurants the staff was hands-off, but the waitress was very nice (they aren't trying to ignore you, they just don't want to get all in your face when you are eating!). The cold apps were very tasty, as were the warm noodles. The soup dumplings weren't quite up to DTF standards, but still very good. Sorry, DTF is good, but who wants to wait in line for the privilege to buy a $15 steamer of dumplings??? I would come here again anytime I'm in the neighborhood!

Great place in Edmonds if you crave northern Chinese food. Nice decor, and very traditional food. Had the pork dumplings for lunch. It is different than ding tai fung's but it is good in its own way. The dumplings were made fresh on demand. You get 12 dumplings for less than 10 bucks very reasonable price. The inside was filled with pork and chopped vegetables. Remind me of home cooking, comfort style food. If you are in the area you ought to try it. Next time I'm going to try the beef noodle soup.

Clean, very pleasant service, good healthy northern style food, the noodles are so authentic, the salads are great, boiled handmade dumplings are a must try. Owner is super friendly. Price is very reasonable. Highly recommend. Wish I lived closer so I can go more frequently.

We had the "Seafood Hot Pot" and "Noodles with Pork & Soybean Sauce" for an inexpensive shared lunch today in this neat little Chinese restaurant. Both were absolutely delightful. It's on the 99 in Edmonds. Try Dumpling Generation for yourself, and I know you will come back over and over. This has been a great find for us! My wife's Chinese Chinese and fussy about Chinese food. She loves this place! See you there because we are definitely coming back!

The dumplings are really good especially the pork with chive. I pretty much go there once a week and I am pleased with the quality of the food they served there. But the price had gone up substantially lately. One order of dumplings was $7.95 and is $9.25 now. That's almost 20% increase. I don't think I can go there as often as I like now. :-(

This was a great experience overall. My buddy and I came here under the impression that this was primarily a dumpling House and had many options for dumplings. We were a bit disappointed at first to find out they only had three different dumpling options all of which were pork. we ordered the pork and celery and the pork and chive both steamed. We also decided to get an order of the spicy chicken with rice. We were surprised that our server provided us with a sampler of cold noodles, thin cut potatoes, and seaweed. All of which were very good and was great for snacking before our main dishes came out. The chicken came first. It had great flavor, moderate heat, and was cooked perfectly. we were very impressed. The dumplings came out next, there were separate sauces for each kind of dumpling, I also prefer spicy oil with my dumplings which they had here. The pork and celery were very good especially with the sauce provided. The pork and chive were incredible, excellent dumplings. overall great experience, The owner came over and spoke to us and was very friendly. The food exceeded our expectations, and well the lack of dumpling options was a little disappointing, the dumplings available as well as the other food was excellent. The service was very good. I will definitely come back.

I used to work nearby here, and coming in for a cup of hot jasmine tea and some noodles was my favorite lunch on a dreary cold day. Now that I've moved further north I don't get to stop by as often as I'd like, but when I do always make the resolution to come more often! The restaurant is spotlessly clean, and the food delicious, but the friendly atmosphere is what brings me back. Even after months at a time Su always recognizes me, brings me my favorite dish (spicy potato slices) as the appetizer and asks how I'm doing. I've tried a number of things on the menu but I would recommend the double mushroom-- a huge plate of sauteed shiitake and crimini with the perfect amount of garlic and chili oil. All of the noodle dishes are great as well. If you're in the area and craving Chinese food look no further!

This place is fantastic! We had the steamed pork dumplings with black mushrooms and cabbage- outstanding! The best dumplings in the area! We also had the mixed noodles with pork and soybean sauce- wow is all I can say! Highly recommend this place! Very reasonably priced too!

We found this place on Yelp and stopped by for lunch today. The food was very good, inexpensive, and plentiful. The service was also excellent. This is a good find and we'll definitely go back. We had the steamed dumplings (pork and chives) and the shrimp fried rice. Both very good.

Very authentic Chinese food. Not greasy and delicious. If you want general Tso chicken sweet and sour pork drive on. Food tastes healthy and not greasy like a lot of cheap Chinese places. I had the za za mein, pork in bean sauce, and it was just like my parents make it. Very authentic. But if you are looking for the Chinese American take out style if cuisine, this is not.

Great new place, dumpling is my favorite. Hand made dough with tasty filings, kid like the pork with mushroom and cabbage, and mine is pork with chives. Noodle dish is great too, chewy noodle, large portion. Great service too.

Certainly plenty of food for what I paid. I liked the dumplings, I didn't love them. However, I didn't care for the braised beef soup. I think, perhaps, it was because I expected a different flavor. However, the noodles were amazingly fresh and tasty. The jasmine tea was wonderful and the owners were very attentive and sweet. There wasn't a long wait for my takeout order. Would I go back? Maybe - if only because the owners are so genuine and I truly hope their business succeeds. I just didn't enjoy what I ordered.

We ate here on April 5th, 2014. There was a large table and two smaller groups in while we dined, and the service was friendly and attentive. The waitress brought us a plate of three small appetizers to start: spicy shredded potato, seaweed, and a cold noodle. All were excellent, although the cold noodle was a bit more tame than I would have expected. The spicy shredded potato was wonderful. We had an order of the pork with black mushroom and Napa cabbage dumplings, along with the mixed noodles with pork and soybean sauce, for our main course. The dumpling can be steamed or boiled (we went with steamed), and came out quickly considering they are made on-order. They were very well made, with a slightly thicker wrapper than I would expect, and quite nice. The noodle dish was good as well: served as a build-it-yourself bowl of noodles accompanied by the pork in soybean sauce and condiments. The noodles were the right firmness and had a good flavor. They aren't the best noodles in town (Biang! claims that by a slim margin), but these are still very, very, good. This area has a number of great choices, but this is one place with which we will be making an effort to return.

Tried this place on a weekday night with some friends. They claim to make their own dumpling and noodles fresh and they did not disappoint. The dumplings tastes good and the noodles' texture are great and chewy. The noodle portion is generous so if I go there again next time, I'll probably just share one bowl with my wife and order something else to try. One of my friends order shrimp fried rice and it smelled good and tasted great too. Will come again.

  • Sue C.

Dumplings and noodles are good, but fried rice is not authentic Chinese, it's more like Japanese style with ketchup, not very good. Pork with egg plants is not good b/c they dee fried eggplants with batter first and stir fried again with pork. I wish they had green vegetables, not just Nappa cabbage. Seafood hot pot is very good.

Dumpling Generation is a delight. Great pot stickers - and the great assortment of appetizer samples that they gave me while the dumplings steamed was delicious. (I bet the freebie was because they are new and they wanted to entice new customers to return - it worked!). Service is great. I hope this new business lasts and lasts.

Read some good reviews and decide to check it out. What a disappointment. Maybe a different cook on Saturday's? Pineapple fried rice had absolutely no flavor, just a couple of pineapple chunks and a squirt of ketchup mixed in. Steamed dumplings were so-so, the frozen ones I get at Ranch 99 or H-mart are better. Beef noodle soup was actually pretty good. Service was good. Felt sorry for the waiter as the two women in back kept ordering him around why they did nothing. Go somewhere else. There is a great Korean restaurant right next door (Hosoonyi). My wife is from Shanghai and she says we will never go back to Dumpling Generation.

I'm always up for trying a new dumpling place. Imagine my excitement when I saw that this place had just opened near my house. I ordered the steamed hand made meat dumplings, seaweed salad, and the beef noodle soup with hand made noodles for me and my eight year old to try. He is the biggest dumpling fanatic in the world. The steamed dumplings were good, but not spectacular. They were lacking something, like ginger or some other critical component of flavor. I had to ask the gentleman for black vinegar and slivered ginger (which is the traditional thing to serve it with). The seaweed salad was not good. Just some sliced up seaweed with no garnish, barely any flavor. With every bite (I eventually stopped eating it after several chews) I kept thinking of the version they have at Fu Man Dumpling House which is spectacular. The beef noodle soup was okay, but the broth tasted a bit odd (city water perhaps?). Service was polite. Overall the food was okay but not worth a return visit. The saddest part of all was that I did not let my son in on my opinions of the food and during the middle of the meal, he quietly whispered if we could NOT come back here again because he didn't think the dishes were good. He said he preferred Fu Man or Din Tai Fung. Sigh.

What a delight! Dumpling Connection is a comfortable atmosphere to enjoy great tasting fresh Asian treats. We had a tofu curry dish that was wonderful. The hand made dumplings are worth the trip by themselves. Check it out. You will be pleased.

This is a wonderful new restaurant with great food and service. The noodles are just awesome and big serving size. We love the colorful salad and fried rice too. You also gotta try the spicy chicken - everyone I brought here ate two bowls of rice with this dish. A great new place!!!

Tried Dumpling Generation for the first time last night and was very impressed. The food was fresh and very good, service is excellent. Several tables occupied while we were there, everyone seemed to be enjoying their dinner. We had spicy cold potatoes (appetizer), pork & chive dumplings and a delicious noodle dish. We definitely plan to return soon.

Loved. The. FOOD! Very friendly, brought us out a free sampler to try 3 side dishes that were on the menu. Which we will be ordering next time! Smart to do, we saw them offering that to another table. Not sure but maybe it's like the free side dishes at a Korean bbq? Idk, either way it was good to be able to test out other items on the menu. We were happily surprised to see alot of vegetarian options! Food was really good, we ordered the "egg and chive" dumpling and they were amazing! We ordered seaweed salad appetizer, was yummy. Not very slimy at all, and it was good! We also ordered the chow mein which I usually do not like in general, but it tasted very good flavor, noodles were nicely cooked and not too soft. My partner rated the chow mein st a 7-8 ;) And we got the Broccoli w garlic sauce, perfectly cooked crisp still, flavor perfect! Oops one more thing, the chili sauce condiment on the table was SO good, we bought some to take home, it is so roast good flavor, almost like tea? And not very hot but do much great flavor, it's made in house. Think it was 3$ for a 5-6 oz container.

These new-ish mini plates non-A typical Chinese places seem to be popping up all over the place. This is about the 4th one we've been to in the last few months. It's not strictly dim-sum, nor is it a place to order your Imperial dinner for 2 with egg flower soup and fortune cookie, you get my meaning. Overall we enjoyed it, our oldest is a veggie-head and while she does eats cheese and eggs, it is often hard to find place that offer non-beef/pork/chicken/fish types of offerings with regards to broth and sauce bases. Our server was very on point of what was and what wasn't veggie-friendly, I found that a nice touch. Nice flavors in all of the noodle dishes we opted for, only minus was the beef hot-pot, it was a tad underwhelming but it was packed with goodies, a touch of hot sauce and a dash of soy sauce and it was decent. Dumplings were very good, we'll have to head back and try a few more meat related dishes, but overall a nice solid restaurant to change up the pace. Only minus was the delay/timing of our dishes, it took a while between dishes to come out of the kitchen, but overall worth the wait.

    (4)
  • Blake G.

I ordered the Braised Beef Noodles it was semi bland but had soy sauce the crap out of the noodle soup, then it was appetizing. It was good. Criticism for the kitchen, but you should season the broth more, but as long you have soy sauce available for customer you won't hear a peep out of me. Try it out, I don't think this is for everyone though until they change the ingredients in the broth.

  • Kathy R.

Great flavors, excellent value, and friendly service! Dumplings are great, as well as other dishes like beef soup with homemade noodles and bok choy. We got a free sampler of pickled veggies akin to Korean ban chan, but this is Northeastern Chinese food, which shows that national borders don't always apply to cooking styles. Really something different when you are in the mood for Asian.

  • Linciya L.

Very authentic Chinese food. Northern style. We had the braised beef noodles very good noodles. I would totally pay for the appetizers, but they are free, even better. Overall good price for the food. Maybe not for a date but good place for family or if you just want sth simple and tasty

  • Nina H.

I really loved the pork and mushroom mixed noodles. The texture of their noodles are cooked just the way I like them, al dente and chewy. We also ordered steamed dumplings, and they were OK, not the best I've ever had, but still edible. I especially loved the complimentary side dishes! We also shared the chicken wings which were OK. They tasted like the Chinese tea eggs, so kind of bland. But overall, the service was friendly and helpful! The space is very clean and big and there are lots of parking spots outside.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
