This inn is great. It is very comfortable and simple so it isn't for anyone expecting a 5 star hotel. The service is fantastic, Paul, the owner and the staff were friendly and very welcoming. A great location for hiking as the inn is situated near the Appalachian trail, the Long trail and other great trails.

First off, I wasn't expecting a 5 star hotel. Pretty much none of these ski hotels/inns are 5 star hotels. Staff was friendly! We Checked-inn at midnight without and problems. The room itself was not clean! It's fine if the hotel is dated but at least keep it clean. The bath tub was so dirty I actually cleaned it myself. We stayed on the first floor. Every move the people above us walked we heard because of the squeaking of the floor. Granted everywhere will squeak to a point, this just sounded like a squeaking and stamping heard of cattle. We actually thought the people above had their ski boots on but they did not. Thermostat didn't work and door (key entry) was tricky. I would stay here if you were in a pinch for money. The price isn't bad. But overall, I wouldn't stay here again. We booked the place on a whim for a quick weekend vacation.

Not impressed. This is the second time I've stayed there for the Killington Beast with 8 other friends. The first time was ok, this was awful. Outdated, gross & dirty. The owner was consistent in 1 area- rude. Amenities were stated- bar, hot tub, dinner...yeah, those don't happen. The upstairs living room- we were kicked out at 11 so the owner could close the living room. When we went downstairs to eat our pizza after a long day of racing...MOLD on the basement walls!!!!! Appetizing! One of my friends asked if breakfast could start at 7 instead of 730 due to a lot of guests racing early- he wasn't even acknowledged. NEVER will stay there again and DO NOT recommend it to racers or skiers. Not worth the little you pay

I don't think that owner means to be rude. He has a strange sense of humor. The entire hotel looks like it needs some sprucing up. Looks run down...but in VT way which is okay. They are all a little odd. The cook can be quite good when he wants to be but who comes here for dinner when the hotel has about two stars because the owner is so strange. The restaurant looked so empty around dinner time. No water pressure in the shower. Bathrooms are pretty disgusting. Beds are old and plain.

Pros: great pricing, comfortable rooming, great breakfast in the morning, great location. Cons: One of the MOST RUDE owners I have ever come across. Every single thing I said was met with an antagonistic response. Every time I had a question he acted like I was inconveniencing him and he could care less about someone from the NY area coming up to his part of the woods to use his mountains. Complete jerk. I called earlier in the day to let him know another person from my party would be checking in as I was stuck at work and he WOULDN'T LET THEM CHECK IN! I even paid for everything in advance, and left him my friends name, NOPE! Is this standard hospitality industry service? Letting guests wait for one single person to get there? Unbelievable Also agree with KD's comment about the snowboard. My friend had his snowboard taken from his car overnight which was ridiculous and then I heard somebody elses snowboard was taken from the closet. The owner couldn't care less, was less than helpful and didn't even offer a "sorry to hear that." Just went about his business like it was our fault. Due to safety concerns and the owner being an absolutely negative person I am NEVER going to stay here or recommend this place to friends. I simply couldn't understand why he was behaving this way. All of us in our party are professionals who have frequented Killington 4-8 times a season so we have a good idea of what to expect and this is the absolute WORST.

We found this on the Internet and booked over the phone. We were greeted by a lovely young man who went out of his way to be helpful. From what I read in other reviews, this is not always the case. The room was okay but not exceptional. The toilet was really stained and it wouldn't stop running. My fellow traveler took the back off the tank and adjusted the flapper more than once. This is something that is cheap and easy to fix. We went to the big living room and met the lady half of the owning team. She was an absolute delight and made sure we were comfortable. Very nice lady. Breakfast in the morning was okay. Maybe it's a Vermont thing or maybe I am just a snob, but the coffee was very very weak. The lady of the house is the one who adds the charm here. The delightful young man at the desk too. He even offered to assist us with our bags.

I wish I could give negative stars for this place. I am not picky about hotels. I just need a bed, pillow, and shower and I'm fine when skiing. This place was HORRIBLE. Avoid at all costs. For starters -- no shuttles to the mountain or access road. Room: Outdated and old- fine.. the floor was cement- we were on the first floor aka basement near the pool. Smelled like chlorine. Shower had barely any water pressure. I thought we were getting a room with 2 double beds and 1 twin but only got the 2 double beds. Next morning around 8 we were woken up to the sound of our neighbors talking.. the walls were THAT thin. Pool/Fitness Center: We decided to check out the pool that night after a long day of skiing. NOPE. Pool is closed and they were filling it up with water. Hot tub was DISGUSTING. Cloudy, mucky, couldn't even see the bottom. Then we went to check out the "fitness center". Wow I was brought back to 1985. The oldest equipment I have ever seen- bordering on dangerous. Didn't even bother to see if the treadmill worked. Next morning, we woke up and went to breakfast at 9 as they were closing up. I wasn't hungry but my fiance ate. The "host" HOUNDED us for our room number. We gave it to him. He came back again- are you SURE that's your room number? YES. Came back a third time.. are you positive? Omg kid go away we gave you our room number, and there's not even food left- we're scraping the bottom of the buffet pans. I couldn't have been happier to check out of this dump. They now have 3 separate charges on my credit card.. $120, $72, $48.40. The rate we booked at was $119! I'll be fighting that through amex. Lesson learned- DO NOT BOOK HERE. Avoid. Don't be tempted by their low rate they quote you on the website. I'm surprised I don't have bed bugs.

Very, very, I mean very dated. Breakfast is the only thing I can say that was good. They seriously need to remove all the old country crap which are nothing but dust collectors and update/ change the bedspreads that are 100% polyester - every time I turned over, I was awakened by the loud noise of the bedspread turning with me! Would not go back here for the price, other local hotels offer more comfort/updates for the money. It's March and the centerpieces at breakfast were from Christmas. Really?

Avoid this place, I've experienced better hospitality at youth hostels in Brazil, L.A., and even Hungary where they spoke little/no English for 1/5 of the price here (came out to about $200 for one night, and that's without any mini-bar or movie rentals). Read the rant below if you wish... My roommate and I stayed here spur of the moment with another friend who drove all the way up on New Year's Day from NYC to experience some memorable spring skiing at Killington (there was a freak heatwave). We were ignored at the front desk by an employee who was within eye and earshot for several minutes. After politely hailing her, she reluctantly came over to look up our reservation. We went through Booking.com , and apparently that makes you a second class citizen here. Actually, I felt more like some homeless peasant in a Dickens novel begging for shelter from a rude noble. She eventually gave us a room, only to retract that room 5 minutes later after we had already gone in there and done the obligatory backflop onto the bed after a long drive. There was another 5-10 minutes of fussing around at the front desk, again the rooms were too good for us or something and supposedly reserved by other travelers not yet at the inn (ours was reserved too, helloooo??). We were given a second room where both beds were completely stripped with the covers thrown in a corner. We went back, more dicking around at the counter, they are still treating us like lepers; Finally we get a room which looks good and clean enough. We popped a few Long Trails and tried to relax... Messed around in the gameroom for a bit, they have pingpong (really crappy paddles, $.50 charge per cracked ball), coin operated foosball (how does that work exactly?), and billiards in decent shape. The indoor pool looked fine, we did not try it out. There is plenty of common space, although it is a strange layout. The location is great, the Pickle and Wobbly shuttles will both go there. The following morning, more coldness from the staff. The buffet style breakfast was horrendous; inmates at San Quentin eat better I am pretty sure. Inedible eggs, ham with the consistency of beef jerky that could not be cut with a fork and knife, pancakes that were freezing cold (real maple syrup, nice touch). Watered down OJ and weak coffee were the highlights. You don't expect a buffet like the Four Seasons at a mountain inn, but get real! We got charged the next day for a third person, who they knew was there through some act of magic or invasion of privacy. There are better options, actually I bet all of them are.

Let me start by saying this is the first negative review I've ever written for anything. I'm not a picky guy, but this place made me mad enough to join Yelp! A friend and I made a last minute decision to head up to Killington the following day. We were looking for a hotel reasonably close to the access road w/o the cost of staying at one of the hotels on or just off of it. I did some research online and settled on the Grey Bonnet, because it fit the criteria. It's located about a quarter of a mile from the start of the access road and was listed at $150 (around $70-$100 less than what was available on the main drag). I booked the reservation on their website, and received an email confirmation for the room and price. When we arrived I stood at the front desk a mere 4 feet from the desk manager for about five minutes with my friends before she even acknowledged us, and it took me saying excuse me three times. She wasn't on the phone or dealing with any other customers. She was simply ignoring us. When I gave her my name she told me that I didn't have a reservation. I assured her that I did and said that I'd booked it on their website. She responded by saying "but did you fax it in?" as though I'd done something wrong. The email confirmation said nothing about having to send a fax, and who sends faxes anymore??? To be fair, my buddy's roommate had decided to tag along when I went to pick him up. So, we arrived as a party of 3 instead of 2, but I've never been to a hotel, motel, inn etc in ski country that charges by person in the room. Well, the Grey Bonnet does. After finally finding my reservation she looked us over and mentioned that our reservation listed only 2 adults and each additional person that stayed in the room would be $30 plus tax. We had other friends staying in the area at hotels that wouldn't charge. So, we told her that he would sleep else where. She shot us a skeptical look, and restated their policy. We assured her that he would sleep else where. The plan was when we met up with friends later at the bars he'd go with them at the end of the night. From there she gave us the keys to a room. No sooner had we moved our things into the room there was a knock at the door. She told us that there was someone else that hadn't checked in yet that they were putting in that room. She made us gather all our things and gave us keys to another room, which turned out not to have any bedding or heat. After some more deliberation she finally put us in a room that had three beds, but reminded us that if anyone slept in the 3rd bed there would be a $30 charge. The quality of the rooms was below average for the price range, and even though the room had a balcony there was a sign posted saying they'll charge you $25 if you go out on it. My friends and I were having a few beers before we left for the evening and decided to go to the "game room", which consists of foosball table that they charge you for and a ping pong table. When I went to the front desk and asked for the paddles and ball for ping pong she looked at me dead seriously and said "How many paddles? One?" What can you do with one ping pong paddle? She also told me that they charge a dollar if the ball breaks. While we were playing she stopped by multiple times to remind us that if my second friend sleeps in the room we'll be charged. We called a cab and went out for the night and just as we'd promised my 2nd friend went to another hotel. The following morning, I went downstairs to enjoy their complementary hot breakfast. They somehow found a way to ruin scrambled eggs and their Canadian bacon was like pork jerky. While I was trying to at least enjoy the coffee "my friend from the front desk" came by and sent me back to my room because I was just wearing socks on my feet. I took my coffee and went to go pick up my friend at the other hotel because we still had his ski stuff. We then came back and got ready for a day on the mountain. When I checked out I was handed a bill by the owner for $187. He told me that my online confirmation didn't include tax or gratuity. Gratuity???? Over half of the additional $35+ was mandatory gratuity. At this point I wouldn't have tipped a dime, but he told me it was non-negotiable. I was already unhappy, but it got worse. On my way home after skiing I received an email from "my friend at the front desk" saying that our third bed was messy and she saw us all leave together. So, she was adding the $30 plus tax to my invoice. Sherlock Holmes put it all together because someone sat on the third bed and she saw my friend in the parking lot!!! In summation, I ended up paying $220 for the room, which was $70 more than my confirmation stated and the same price as some much nicer places that are closer to the mountain. In the process I was treated as a second class citizen, and I was lied to while being called a liar. I have never been made to feel more unwelcome as a paying customer. I would NEVER return.

Great place! My family has been enjoying the Grey Bonnet Inn since 1998. We come up from New Jersey to spend holidays together and ski Killington (ten minutes up the road). My three daughters consider the Bonnet to be their second home and have had the run of the place since they were small children. We spent this Thanksgiving at the Grey Bonnet with my children and my parents (who don't ski but enjoy hanging out in the common room in front of the huge stone fireplace that takes up most of a wall). We came up Wednesday night, were warmly greeted by Innkeeper Paul, went up to the mountain for dinner and to drop off our skis to get them tuned, and woke up early Thursday morning for a really nice made to order breakfast of omelets, french toast, and pancakes. After a day skiing, and a relaxing soak in the hot tub, Chef Damon made our family a great Thanksgiving turkey dinner in the dining room with a roaring fire and windows looking out on a snow covered backyard and the State Forest. If you are expecting a modern hotel or an elegant country retreat, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a charming country home away from home to relax and gather with friends and family, you can't do any better.
