Perfect location for Killington Stage Race! Butternut is normally closed for the season but reopens specifically for this weekend and is more affordable than the other accommodation options. It had everything we needed w a great central location to all stages to boot: wifi, clean rooms, fridge in each room, and a very hearty and filling breakfast which was surprisingly included with the three night rate. Big thanks to Phil and the Butternut staff for making our Memorial Day weekend perfect! Tip: eat next door at the Foundry (hearty American)/down the road at Peppinos (yummy Italian). We had our best Killington meals there.

We recently rented out the entire Inn for a ski weekend with the boys. Its perfect for our group. We had a fantastic time and the owners and his family are great. The included breakfast was very good and Jim drove us wherever we wanted. We have found a new home for our yearly trip. The only knock is there is not hot tube available. I would have really like to hit a hot tube after a day on the slopes.

Great place to stay in Killington. Clean rooms, friendly & informative staff. Great FREE and HUGE breakfast if you stay at the Butternut Motor Inn!

Stayed here for a weekend and I really want to give a good review of the place as the owner is a nice guy and the atmosphere was pretty laid back... but unfortunately I found myself more disappointed than satisfied. The hotel has a great location and as a result of the courtesy shuttle, is a convenient option for food and going out after a day on the slopes. Because of this you pay a higher premium per night, and that's the only reason. I really wish there would be some investment in the place as it's severely lacking with any sort of update to warrant the price. Honestly I'd be upset at staying at a place like this anywhere else for half of what we paid. One of the first things I noticed after getting in late was that the bathroom was pretty run down. The floor was coming up, the sink was pretty warn out, and all associated knobs for water had seen better far days. The last thing I wanted at that hour was to be uncomfortable about taking a hot shower but that's exactly what it came down to. If it's difficult to run the hotel, I wish the owner would hire help, as I didn't see any cleaning service the entire time I was there. And it showed. There was hair in the bathroom tub before I even used it, and not like one hair. It was obvious the rooms are "tidied up" but aren't cleaned really well. I didn't really want to think too much about it even though it was constantly on my mind while I was there. It took a good 5 minutes for me to get hot water for the shower, at which point the shower head just kind of spit water out. Then on top of that, I almost burned myself several times after constantly having to readjust the water temp. Sigh. It wouldn't stay at a constant temperature. Finally on top of all that, the toilet didn't flush all that well. Beds were so soft that it sank about 6" when you laid on it.. and the mattress was probably only about 7" thick. My back was killing me both mornings. Carpet on the floor was really old. Hard to say what decade it was from. Wood paneling on the walls were pretty standard for a mountain hotel. The TV worked ok but the Wifi wasn't as functional. I couldn't check my email even while connected with fair signal. We went to bed that night with the heat blasting... probably was about 85* in the room. I struggled to sleep because of this and couldn't find a way to regulate the temperature. Turning the knob on the baseboard heater didn't seem to do anything. After finally getting to sleep with no covers on, I woke up in the night around 5 am to it being contrarily cold (after putting the heating knob back to where it was). I didn't get the climate control in the room. The next day it was also warm in the room when we got back and it got cool late into the night, almost as if it were under some master control. With all that said, I would look really hard to avoid staying here again. The hospitality of the owner and the included breakfast (which partially justified the price, but not nearly enough) was enough for 2 stars. Breakfast was, as compared to what some others said, pretty good and came out timely and decently cooked. The menu was simple but so was the entire place. Hard to complain there.

My boyfriend and I stayed here last year sat January 25 and Sunday January 26. we had a lot of fun!! Jim the owner was very nice and accommodated us very last minute and we were provided with shuttle service to and from the mountain and to and from local restaurants! we didn't have to move our truck the entire time we were there. we also got free breakfast every morning and it was excellent. we just booked another trip for this year! cannot wait to go back :-)

A rainy day in Vermont dampened our plans for hiking - no matter, pancakes to the rescue. The Butternut Inn recently added pancakes to their repertoire, and in splendid fashion! $10 for all you can eat 'cakes, with the usual breakfast offerings available as well. We mauled our first stack of originals (I was going to use 'plain', but the word doesn't do the food justice), and moved on to try the strawberry and blueberry concoctions. All were absolutely amazing. Free bottomless coffee, tea or juice with your meal doesn't hurt either. A word of advice: call ahead to see if they're open before trekking out there, especially in the summer when things are little more quiet. I definitely foresee this place getting packed in the winter months.

I booked this hotel for Presidents' Day weekend as part of a ski and stay package. We were greeted by Jim at 8am on a Friday. He joked with us about check time being at 3 (which it clearly says it is on the website) but why not stop by 7 hours early to see if our room was ready, right? It was. Jim gave us a quick tour and let us into our room. On our way out he asked where we were headed and gave us suggestions for which lifts to take and runs to try. I kind of feel like Jim was our personal travel guide for our trip. His run suggestions were perfect for our skill levels. He also suggested we grab a bottle of wine and sit by the fire later that night...which we did. Our room was simple. Definitely nothing special but so what, we're here to ski/ride and sleep. You get a free breakfast that beats any other continental breakfast I've had. Jim suggested we eat a Charity's and On the Rocs. Both were great...On the Rocs was outstanding actually. See my review about the place. Overall I had a really good experience here and would definitely come back.

The room is very basic. The beds are comfortable. The shower took a while to get warm and then it was hot. The breakfast was very large and could easily have been shared by two. The omelette was filled with bacon and sausage and cheese. If you are a skier you would love the location. This motel is located directly across from the mountain.

I don't know why I went here...I guess because it looked like it could be a good pancake house. Bottom line, this restaurant is attached to a hotel and is extremely basic. 4 "specials" and 2 or 3 sides. Blueberry pancakes had maybe 5 berries each. Bacon was good, home fries were real soft and kinda mushy with grease, scrambled eggs were probably worst I've had. They were kinda suspect looking and were gooey and mostly undercooked.

I was staying across the street, at the North Star Lodge and I wanted breakfast before I drove home. I went to the Butternut, and was met by a very nice guy who seated us right away. They didn't have sausages yet (delivery was running late) but he said anything else on the menu was good. I wasn't really hungry so the price for unlimited pancakes was a bit higher than I'd like (but if I was hungry I could have eaten my moneys worth). But the pancakes I got were phenomenal. I loved them. They gave me some eggs due to the lack of sausage and the self serve juice wasn't too bad. Overall, the 4 stars were due to the great food, attentive service, friendly staff and atmosphere. I felt at home there, and that's great. I'd give it 5 stars if the prices weren't so high, but I like supporting small business and VT needs the support due to the hurricane last year. I'd send my friends to this place and return.

I wish there were negative stars because I would select negative 5 stars for this place. Ever heard the saying "The fish rots from the head." Well, this is a prime example of how the owner of a business ultimately is the one to fail it. I blame myself for even entering this filthy rat's nest but we were hungry and most decent places had closed for the season. The tables were dirty and most of the old wooden chairs had broken legs. We were served partially cooked pancakes, raw bacon (literally) and sausage that was still cold in the middle. When I told my waitress she responded "oh well". Chef Ramsey needs to visit this place and knock some sense into the rude and ignorant owner. Or even better, the board of health should simply close this place down. As they say, "Places like this are like a dog with rabbis, you just need to put them out of their misery before they bite somebody" or in our case give someone salmonella. Stay away if you value your health!

I stayed at the Butternut Inn and Pancake House for two nights during a busy holiday week. Pro's: Very helpful and hardworking owner who seems to run most aspects of the hotel. Great breakfast with excellent bacon, sausage and ham in addition to pancakes and unlimited coffee, juice and hot chocolate. Close access to the mountain, free shuttle to the mountain, hiking trail directly across the street from the property. Cons: This place needs some serious updates and a deep cleaning. Rooms were very basic. The beds were worn, as were the pillows and towels. The bathroom required shower shoes due to the stained, beat up bathtub, shower curtain and toilet. The bottom line: If you are looking for a decent and reasonably priced place to crash after a day of outdoor activities, this hotel fits the bill. If you are looking for luxury and lots of amenities, this may not be the place for you.

Amazing pancakes and wonderful service. Great authentic Vermont atmosphere and the perfect start to a full day on the mountain. The bacon could not have been more fresh and cooked just right. The local ingredients really made all the difference.

I stayed here last night with a group of friends. We had driven from NJ & arrived at 2am. Luckily this place was open & had rooms. For everything else was closed. The whole top floor was basically for ourselves. It was overall clean. Our room had no smoke detectors. & our shower was missing the railing. Breakfast was okay. Probably a little too overpriced for what we paid.

The Butternut Inn was a last resort for breakfast since everything else was closed and my husband and I did not want to drive all the way down to Sugar & Spice. my first impression was that is was a very sad looking place. the Inn portion looks like it has not been updated since it was built ( par for the course in killington) the restaurant was just ok. limited menu. helpful yourself to coffee and juice was helpful. nothing I hate waiting for more than coffee. the was acceptable. the eggs were cooked and so were the pancakes. the bacon and sausage were a bit undercooked for my taste this is not my first choice for breakfast but they did a decent job

I agree with John. We're staying here at the butternut inn, and so far we really like it. Sure, there are more luxurious places to stay at killington but we are a 20-something year old, laid back couple who comes to a ski town to ride all day, grab some good food, sleep and do it all over again. The butternut inn is perfect for us and meets our needs. A bed, shower and heat. It's very simple and cozy, the way it should be. This isn't South Beach, Tim. We got here way later than we expected, and called the owner, Jim. He was very nice through the phone. When we arrived, he left a hand written note with the wifi password and some other info, as well as the keys for us. We had breakfast here this morning and the food was unreal. Everything was delicious. We had bacons eggs and pancakes with a side of sausage, which was extremely fresh and tasty. I like that you serve yourself as much juice, milk, coffee and water as you'd like. Breakfast was tasty, our room is clean and cozy, and the staff was extremely helpful and nice. We really like this place!
