This place is ok, not bad, but not great. We went on a Wednesday night while they had free music playing. It was really loud so we sat out on the deck, which was pretty nice. The waitress seemed busy and distracted at first, but then seemed to be more attentive after we got our drinks. Maybe she had a high maintenance table somewhere else? Anyway, the food was decent, nothing spectacular. My husband got a brownie sunday that was just so so. I am a baker with high expectations for desserts so take that with a grain of salt. I think this place is probably good for people who like sports bars and lots of people. Just not really my kind of place. It's definitely by no means bad, just not somewhere I would usually go.

There are so many great beers on tap it's so hard to decide on one. Had to stay for three! The honey chipotle wings were so crisp and sticky sweet with just enough heat. OMG! Have to go back for more . The burger and fries were pretty good too.

This is my "Cheers". My group, which went from four to two always gets the five star treatment. Food is made to order and they take the time to know you. I love Vinny, and the other staff who make this lunch or bad day appearance memorable each and every time. It will hold memories for me I will never forget. We all have our "home away from home" and this is hands down--- mine.

I went to On Tap Bar and Grill for the first time with my colleagues for drinks. I can honestly say I will probably never go back. It was seat yourself seating, we sat down and it took the waitress close to 30-35 minutes to recognize that we were even there. The service is awful! I ordered nachos and was not impressed at all. There was hardly and beef and cheese and the beef tasted like rubber. Awful food and poor service, take the extra 10-15 minutes and go into Williston or Burlington.

Went here with my colleague after a seminar for lunch. Honey chipotle wings were decent, good not great. My colleague enjoyed his firehouse burger, said it was spicy and juicy My steak and cheese was a nightmare, veggies were overcooked and pasty, and the oil and cheese mixture inside had a foul smegma consistency. Also, their were mushrooms, after I asked 2 times very nicely to not have them inside the sandwich. Cranberry juice had a soapy aftertaste, wundergun lines probably need cleaning, I had experienced dirty lines here before during a previous lunch when I had consumed some Sam Adams. The worst thing was the flies...over a dozen flies were swarming us in the corner of the bar near the doors to El Gato, Coming out of the heat vent, It made me want to puke. Only positive was the waitress. Friendly, attentive and cute. I didn't have the heart to tell her the food was an abomination. Buyer beware.

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews for this place, as it is well-established. I don't often get the food here... not that it's bad, in fact most of the time it's very good, but the service leaves something to be desired. We used to go there almost every Tuesday night for the live trivia game (which can be fun) and there was only one server there that was any good, and I'm not sure she still works there as I recently saw her serving at another bar/grill nearby. On Tap can be different things on different nights. It's the only decent bar in Essex Junction, so it's popular. Trivia night tends to fill the place which is pretty good for a Tuesday. You WILL see a mix of people in there. Very occasionally you will see a family eating there, but not often. I wouldn't recommend it as a kid friendly place as more drinking than eating goes on there. On Friday and Saturday nights it can be wall to wall people...even in the summer when their very nice outdoor seating deck is open. On those nights, the bar seems more like the meat markets in Burlington than a pub. Mostly younger to middle aged people getting hammered and rubbing up against each other on the dance floor to live bands. They book some pretty good bands if you like that scene where you can't talk to your friends because it's so damn loud in there. If you go there often, you may see the same old bar flies surrounding the good-sized bar. Lots of beers on tap, a good number of them craft brews. You will see bikers there, especially since they host a bike night once a month in the summer, but don't let that scare you. I'm a biker, and they are some of the best people you will ever meet. So depending on the night, you could be in a pub, a dive bar or a nightclub. Pick your poison.

There's not a lot going on food-and-drink-wise in Essex Junction compared to all the good stuff to be found in Burlington and Winooski. I guess On Tap qualifies as kind of a dive bar for locals, but if you go in with that in mind it's got quite a lot going for it. They offered a list of about two dozen tap beers -- mostly from Vermont breweries -- and although the food choices were dominated by burgers and such like my BBQ steak tips were actually pretty nice, medium rare, with a slightly sweet but tasty sauce. The fries, I have to say, were quite a bit better than average. And my wife called her rotini with chicken and veggies in cream sauce delicious. The waitress was friendly, quick, and attentive, and, best of all, it was a warm, clear night and they've got a lot of outdoor seating. The local band playing outside wasn't much but they were having fun and so was most of the crowd. All in all, it was a nice evening. There are lots of places with better food, more and better beer lists, and a nicer atmosphere, but on a warm night in Essex Junction you could do a lot worse than On Tap.

I have been here several times, mainly because it's easy from where I live. The drinks are good can't complain there. The menu is basic but I can not recommend anything but the pulled pork nachos. Mainly because they suck at something as simple as burgers and serve salad in warm plates (Caesar does not come mixed they leave that for you) you'll find the same for their variety of chicken tenders lots to choose but just a dipping sauce on the side. Highly do not recommend the teriyaki as it's more a marinade than a dip, thus too strong. My main gripe is the service, aside from the main bartender guy the waitresses are horrible, they do not listen are inattentive and constantly forget what you asked for. Pros the atmosphere is generally loud and festive. In warmer months it is nice to sit on the deck and enjoy company. And they do offer a military discount with ID but chase the waitress as they will forget even as you hand your card and they acknowledge. I have found its easier to just go the bar with your check as its seems the waitresses aside from not bringing you what you ask for repeatedly also do not want you to pay. Overall good social place for a simple drink and nachos but don't expect much from the staff or in the overpriced food quality. I've tried just about everything on the menu in the belief maybe they had an off day and there's no way they only get one item right. Also don't order chocolate milk, more like chocolate tinge. My son was very upset as he knows his chocolate milk. And if you complain apparently there is no manager and the waitress will just say oh I'm sorry but do nothing about it as they walk away and go back into forgetting mode (even if it's only you and another table) Sorry can't rank high, owner has a good setup but needs more oversight on wait staff and cooks.

Met friends on a Monday night for drinks and app's. The nachos grande were massive, well-done and a decent value for the price. Everyone was more than happy with their choices. Service was good, not stellar, but what you'd expect from a place that changes the name and concept every few years now. The decor, or lack of, reminds me of the old Ground Round on Williston Rd. Nothing special at all. I wouldn't bring my wife here for dinner though. Pretty boring and Vermont average.

Good hang out bar and restaurant, conveniently located in the heart of Essex Jct. This place is known for live bands and for dancing. The ambiance is loud and it can get stuffy. If you intent to have a chat with your friends during a live band show, this may not be the place as hearing each other can be quite difficult. Food served here is alright.

Terrible service terrible food was not worth the money we spent and I am nearly positive I got for poisoning from there. I will never go back and would never recommend it to anyone.

Two Words: Busch League service was slow and poor, food was awful. wouldn't recommend it, and won't be going back.

This place is marginal at best. I've been to On Tap twice in the past three weeks and I can't say that I will ever go back. The good things I can say is that the live music was tolerable (if you don't mind marginal cover bands,) and it's convenient to have a bar in Essex so you don't have to drive all the way to Burlington. Unfortunately, the service was terrible both times I was there. My standard drink is a Crown Royal on the rocks and what they brought me was a complete joke. My drink was in a glass barely larger than a shot glass, only half full and mostly ice. $6.75. Seriously? This happened both times I was there. Additionally, the waitresses were inattentive and curt. I can't comment on the food because I didn't have any.

The best thing about On Tap is the opportunity to sit outside on a nice day. There are some glaring problems with the business though. 1- The service. To call is slow would be painfully understating the problem. Don't expect piping hot food or drinks while you wait...they just don't have a good system in place at all. 2- Management. More than once I have left feeling like it is amateur hour over there. I should never see a customer have their drink spilled by someone else and be told "sorry, we can't just give you another one". I would never return if it happened to me. 3- Entertainment. Some of the music they have there is pretty pedestrian. Nothing that I would show up for...its usually just happening and could be much more focused and intentional. They have a great space, but they don't use it well. Overall....I think On Tap would make for a great episode of Restaurant Makeover

On Tap has some of the worst service I've ever seen. Our server took 30 minutes to bring us drinks, and then another 30 to come back and she didn't even take our orders then. It took us 2.5 hours to order. This seems to be consistent with them, as I had been there before and the service was only slightly better. I made the mistake of going back. Their food is average. Their location right next a busy intersection means you get to listen to cars going by. I don't recommend this place. Terrible service and average food.

A friendly spot with tons of beer on tap and a decent wine list. The burgers are very tasty and the Vermont turkey sandwich is really fantastic.

The vibe here is fun and the age range that frequents On Tap is certainly (sorry folks) younger than it used to be. It's really JUST what Essex Junction needed. Fun music, dancing, and decent grub. Oh, and a wide selection of beers on tap doesn't hurt!

Lots of flies when we went. Food was good. Service was good. Calamari was not as good as what my friends liked.

My wife and I went here on a Sunday to have lunch. After placing our order, we waited 40 minutes before it was brought to us, and that was only after asking the waitress if it was ever coming. My wife had fried clams that were so burnt and had so much garlic on them, she couldn't eat them. I had the fish and chips and the outside crust was burnt, and the inside of the fish was raw. When we pointed this out to the waitress, she discussed it with the bartender and didn't charge us for them. No manager ever came by to see what the problem was or anything. Very disappointed. We travel alot and try to eat at local places when possible, but this is one place I will never go back to again.

On Tap is one of them bars you really don't know about until you visit. I had the pleasure of visiting this bar one night a few weeks ago. And over all I think it takes the crown for all of the bars that I have been to so far in the Essex area. Is this a dive bar? You bet ya! But don't let it take away from any of your interest. To be fair its a dive bar with some style! Much better than other bars in the area. You do have a set group of locals that come here but with them they bring other friends. So it still offers a good stop to just mingle around in town. On a Friday night they seem to have live music going on. Mainly local bands. The sound system could be better but for what it is its not all that bad. Music normally ends around 12:30am - 1:00am. Not 100% sure what time they start because I have shown up after 10pm and they seem to have already started. The bartenders are OK here. It can be slow so don't go and expect fast service. They are friendly and easy to deal with so that's always a plus. I have yet to try the food so I can not comment on that. But if I do I will update the review with the information! So over all its not a bad hang out. They offer a smaller crowd then what Burlington has to offer but these locals seem a lot more on the normal side! I'd go again for a drink and maybe even try out the food. Either way as far as Essex goes its one of the better bars in the area.

Shocked at how good our lunch was this weekend. I figured I would experience mediocre bar food. All of our meals, there were 6 of us, were very good. Larger portions, well prepared and tasty. Great service too.

Wings were good. Meaty I had the cheesesteak sandwich (no cheese). It was good. Fries were okay.

Good beer selection as well as food selection. The prices are also pretty low. So overall this is a great place to just hang out with a couple beers and some food. The ambiance is a little weird, but in a good way. It was an interesting mix of older people, families, Harley bikers, students and seemingly everyone else who lives in VT except the hippie people. They do have live music, but so far the acts that have come on while I was there were pretty bad so I'm not sure that can be counted as a plus.

Outstanding seafood chowder with a kick...extra star since this is Vermont and Vermont doesn't even have a coastline. Decent wings. 20+ taps with a mix of the usual suspects and regional goodies. And live music during my Monday night visit. Will be back.
