I LOVE The Essex Grill. The B-Fleck Omelette is the best thing on the menu. I would eat it for breakfast, lunch AND dinner. I also love the Zoe Burger and the BLTC.

We recently dined as a party of five at the Essex Grill and I must say, it was a very average experience overall. The menu has ample selections however the thing that irked me the most is how the Essex Grill prices it's burgers. Burger selections allow the customer to upgrade to a Vemont grass fed patty for an additional $2. All well and good but they omit telling you what the regular party is comprised of......Vietnam-era surplus stock? MAYBE! In my opinion this isn't the most honest business practice and loses a star there. Upon receiving my burger the patty itself was fine but the bun was drenched in an amount of butter that even would make a French chef say "Maybe that's too much". On the more positive side other members in my party had wraps and raved about the sweet potato fries (which were indeed very tasty). In my opinion overall, aside from my burger diatribe, it was a ok dining experience.....just nothing worth seeking out.

Love Essex! Burgers and sandwiches are always a good choice and I LOVE the Mac and Cheese!! There's one waitress we always get who is so sweet and super attentive :) definitely recommend.

Went to the grill with the man for dinner, having never been here before we were excited to try it out. Waitress was friendly and service was quick. The food was sub-par however. The man ordered a burger, which was rather bland and way more bun then meat. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich. The turkey was dry despite the large portion of gravy. The bread it was on what appeared to be sourdough which I thought a rather odd choice for a hot turkey sandwich as it gave it a bit of a bite. We picked through our meals and attempted to order dessert, just to be informed by our still pleasant waitress that they were out of just about everything. We passed. Price was reasonable for the portions. HOWEVER, the fiancé had food poisoning that night. Won't be back.

Good food. Friendly, efficient wait staff. GREAT VALUE! Fun place to stop in for a quick bite or a relaxed meal with friends. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Lots of menu options. Definitely a place you'll want to visit again and again.

One of my local favorites, we have eaten here countless times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I have eaten almost everything on the menu, I tend to stick with the biscuits and gravy for breakfast, and mix it up for lunch/dinner. The bar is well stocked and prices are very good, staff is very friendly and caters to your needs. Outdoor seating is great for those summer days.

Terrific breakfast. My Philo veggie omelet was just how I like it, and my husband and daughter were equally pleased with their choices. Coffee was nice and strong (Starbucks, according to our waitress). Outdoor seating was delightful as well. We'll be back next time we're in the area, for sure.

Great little place, nice outside seating area. Food is great and at a good price and the service is great. Love the staff dog photos on the wall. Just a nice place to go and have a beer and a burger.

This is my go-to place for a great meal for a fair price, and with a smile at no charge. Whether you want a great breakfast, or dinner with a great drink, give it a try. I love the outdoor seating on a nice day. And the blueberry lemonade vodka--me thinks is unbeatable.

My husband and I love this place. I'm always pleased with the food and the service. it's a go to for us when we can't agree on a restaurant. I would recommend the Catamount or the BLTC.

The service from Marcy was great, the southwest egg rolls were amazing....but the catch was that we found a hair in one of our burgers! So good otherwise...sad and gross way to end an otherwise good experience.

I hate to update this review but we had a pretty bad experience here the last time we came in. Plus a few other times. But here is what happen on our last visit. When we got sat we had our server take 20 minutes just to say hello to us. It wasn't even busy for a Thursday night. But when she did finally come over we had put in our order. We ended up getting 2 meals and an app. About 35 minutes later our dinners came out. But guess what? They forgot the app....When I asked the waitress about the app she was very apologetic and she asked if we still wanted it. Of course our answer was no at this point. So she offered to take it off of our bill. We also noticed that our chicken was a little over cooked and the fries had not been cooked all the way through...Plus we never saw her for refill. It was just a bad experience over all. Service used to be good but now its just taken a turn for the worse. We have had other rocky times here but never this bad. We went from going 1-2 times a month to possibly never returning again. I think the management needs to either train better or just get some better staff. So given the choice I will give my money to other local restaurants in the area. Sadly the owner was not there to speak too that night. I may try and contact them at some point. We ended up spending around $26 for our meal total. (App was taken off but its no favor as they forgot about it! So much for wanting our money huh?) Sorry to do this Essex Grill! We used to love you the most during the summer time! eating outside was always a treat for us.

Went here on a movie date night, and it's got a tempting menu and good proximity to the Essex Cinemas. Furthermore, if you dine here on date night, you can get discounted tickets to the theater for $6 or $8 if it's T-Rex (whatever that means.) The beer is reasonable, and the food is largely local, but I have to say, if you're going, maybe try the burgers. The salads, despite having a great selection of types, were pretty lame. I had the Mandarian Asian salad, my partner had the Buffalo chicken salad. The lettuce was wilty and the chicken (both of us had chicken) was overcooked and far too crispy for a salad. It was probably far too crispy for anyone paying at a restaurant, honestly. The service was great, however, and the atmosphere was OK too. Not amazing, but OK. If the food was mind-blowing this would've still been a solid 4 stars.

Good burgers! Crispy waffle fries! A deck for me and my dog. What is not to love? Folks were extremely friendly here too. Plus, the price is definitely below average for the area. We'll be back.

This place is so tasty! We couldn't get enough of the Cheddar Jalapeno Fritters that are made from scratch in-house. I prefer breakfast though as there isn't much for vegetarians, but the stuffed portabellas were good and they were good about customizing dishes! It would get a 5th star with some more vege options, but its been quite popular since it opened in the former greasy spoon's spot. They cleaned it up really nice and looks cute inside! Great patio to hang out and eat outside!

The only reason this review has two stars is because of the service I received. I had a short haired tattooed individual who was down to earth and easy to talk to, and she went out of her way to make sure I had a good time. But when the food came it was nothing but Sysco prepackaged BS. The fries were limp and everything else was mediocre at a stretch. The tacky dog-themed decor was a huge downer and made me think that the owners didn't have a clue as to how to run a restaurant. I choked down my beer and left disappointed but wondering if the tattooed out going server was going to make it out of there alive. In short, tip your servers and bartenders, but don't waste your time at this P.O.S. excuse for a restaurant.

Highly recommend Essex Grill. Excellent service and well prepared food. I had the hanger steak medium rare, and it was nice and rare. My companions had the baked cod, the "Junction" grilled chicken (she said the bacon was a little under cooked), and the veggie quesadilla. The hot fudge covered brownie sundae with blackberry ice cream was to die for. If we had one complaint, it would be that the decor leaves something to be desired, although my companions thought the dog theme had promise.

Love this place. The menu is a little bit on the predictable side, but I count that as a plus--it's consistently delicious, and it's my "go to" place when we're feeling too lazy to cook our own dinner. Staff is friendly, the price is right, and the atmosphere is very kid-friendly. If you're looking for decent pub food that's a step up from your usual diner fare, then this is the place. Best-in-class.

The service was very good; polite, fast, and accurate. The food was very good; I had the fried chicken which was crispy without being greasy, my husband had the Zoe Burger which he said was "very good" with fresh-tasting ingredients and a tasty bun. The kids didn't have any complaints about their Mac & Cheese, rice, and mozzarella sticks either. Sitting outside is always a "win" for us so being able to enjoy our dinner outdoors was a real plus. Good food, good service, outdoor seating, and a good price make this a place we will visit again.

This place was great when they first opened. The food was good, service was friendly, though a little slow. The place has been going downhill over the last 12 -18 months. The restaurant is dirty. The food we had last time was really poorly cooked. I would say this is an avoid unless they re-focus on making the restaurant a quality dining experience, as it was once upon a time.

Just okay... Had breakfast there on May 20, 2012. The Hollandaise sauce on the Eggs Benedict was terrible...looked like yellow sludge and had no taste at all. I make Hollandaise two or three times a year and it tastes terrific; somebody doing it everyday should be making it at least as good as I. The potatoes were tiny, heavily salted cubes and were in very short supply. Potatoes are pretty inexpensive...for the price they charge, they should provide a larger portion...and don't be so heavy-handed with the salt! Coffee and service were good.

Nothing can really explain the awful food though. My Catamount sandwich tasted like something I could get at McDonalds, and the fries were tough, like they had been cooked days before or something. They only have two beers on draft and they were out of one of them. I'm not going to be going back. Oh -- and the door in the back that's labeled with a light-up Exit sign (and thus, I'm assuming, is supposed to be a fire exit) has no handle and is locked. Don't be there if they have a grease fire, or if you are, head for the front door.
