Just wanted to give a rating to stephanie the waitress who assisted the att luncheon two weeks ago. She was the most perfect server I have ever had. She kept her calm while waiting on 20 people. Thanks for the excellent service

We had been to PJ Skiddos before and lucked out with having Stephanie as our waitress once again. She was awesome for telling me to get the Braised Beef Short Ribs instead of the BBQ Short Rib special since it came with mashed potatoes and carrots -- and not just fries and coleslaw. She made the dinner with her friendly service and the fact that she remembered us made it even more special. So, for a great dinner on the patio, ask for Stephanie to make it complete.

This place has a lot of George Mason students here drinking at the large bar area, then the rest of it is a restaurant. It feels kind of like you are in a dungeon. The food is decent enough, fairly cheap, I enjoy sitting outside in the warmer times of year, nice little atmosphere at night with the lights. I recommend this place if you want a somewhat cheap casual American dinner, or if you want to get drunk with college kids lol Best menu item: Avocado Cheeseburger (pretty good meat quality)

Music was pretty good - however I ordered a sex on the beach and the bartender made it all wrong. I went back to the bar and asked if they gave me the wrong drink. Another bartender made me the drink and it was still wrong. He said that's what a sex on the beach is but I've had them a million times and I know it was wrong. Looked up the drink online, he was using pineapple juice instead of orange juice. Literally tasted ridiculous, you're a bar - learn how to make drinks!

Well, pj's and I are in love again. We had dinner there last Saturday night with friends, and had a wonderful evening, no problem with the reservation, and the food was up to the usual high standard. Thank you! We will be back!

This place was always crowded so we tried it. The food was horrible. People must come for the happy hour and giant bar.

Last time I was here was when I went to Fairfax HS across the street. I grew up in Fairfax and used to go here all the time for their prime ribs. This is one of Fairfax institution. The best part is their prices. They are very reasonable comparing to others. I drove by here last night and decided to stop in for dinner. Surprisingly, their prices are still reasonable. They have the September Prime Rib special for $12.95. Back then, it was $7.99 so that should give you an idea how low it is now. Anyway, the inside deco hasn't changed much. I was able to get a table quickly. Matt, my server, seems to be overwhelmed since it took him a while to greet me. I placed my order and waited about 20 minutes before my food came out. Here is what I use to determine a good waiter/waitress or not, refills. If I get refills without asking, then I always give good tips. Not one time did I get my refill or was even asked if I need one. So no go on Matt. As for the prime rib, it is what you pay for. It is not fair to compare this to the more expensive ones at finer restaurants. But for the price, it is good enough. Their menu hasn't change much either. I do wish that they update it with more healthier choices though. So, if you want an affordable meal in Fairfax, then come here and try it out.

We had our rehearsal dinner here, and it was awesome! They were professional, very nice, and very helpful from the beginning. We had 50 people, and booked far in advance, and every single order was correct. We will definitely have more dinners here! :)

There are a few girls that work there that are particularly attentive, Katie and Elle(shes Russian I think), these two have been great every time I come in. They remember what I drink, and always ask if I am hungry. The outdoor patio is one of the best in Fairfax city. They just need some heaters and it could be open year round. Great food, good staff, a couple of the bartenders could be better, but overall a good place to eat drink.

5 stars for great hospitality and dining experience. I was with my mother in law and her sorority sisters. We had a late reservation and were only anticipating having desserts, however we were starving by the time we got there. The kitchen was closing down, however the manager greeted us at the door, seated us, and had the kitchen stay open for us with the full menu to choose from. We were thrilled. The food was great and the service excellent. 5 stars. It's got a great friendly, feel good atmosphere. We will be returning.

Been here a number of times... and I can't say that I love it. However, there's not much else in Fairfax, so you deal with it. Most of the food in the bar is fried and not surprising. Haven't even seen the restaurant. The drinks are average fair. On the weekends you pay over due to the band/djs, which are average at best. Doesn't seem to be consistent. Some days it is rock with a band, other days it is pop music, other days trance. There is plenty of parking, it is open late and it has outdoor seating. So, some plusses, some minuses. Take it as you will.

Went for the Sunday Brunch Buffet.... A really bad decision For $18 had the worst buffet I've ever had. Cold scrambled eggs, an omlette station that burns the eggs, bacon, sausage, gravy, dry biscuits and the most plain pasta I've ever eaten. To make things worse, our server was horrible and very slow. Never going again.

I've been here for lunch and dinner several times over the years, but hadn't visited for a while so came by again for lunch a couple of days ago with a friend. He had the Steak and Bleu salad and Irish Coffee, and I had the Prime Rib sandwich (Wednesday lunch special). He loved the assorted greens in his salad and the coffee. My sandwich was good, and came with a small cup of au jous that was very tasty. Fries with my sandwich were crispy but didn't have much flavor. Not cheap at almost $30 including tax, but overall a decent value. The food arrived fairly quickly, but the server didn't check back to see if everything was OK until we were almost done. There were plenty of servers working for the number of diners in there, so I would have expected better. I'll almost certainly be back, but not in any big rush.

Place is awesome! Great food and drinks. Happy hour is the best in Fairfax. DJs on Tuesdays, Fridays & Saturdays! Def check it out.

The food here is really good. Their specials can include things like lobster. The service is usually good although sometimes it isn't. The food is great for the price. The atmosphere is college bar meets local restaurant.

Interesting place. I have been here many times and as some others have noted, the crowd really depends when you go. Sometimes it is an older crowd and other times it is mostly college students. Regardless, this is a great place for happy hour. Cheap drinks and $4.99 appetizers! Between 8-9pm is power hour-- $1 well-drinks! Service is mixed though. Sometimes they are timely other times it is quite a wait. If you want cheap drinks and decent bar food this is for you.

Good bar food at great happy hour prices. We got good portions of chicken tenders and calamari during happy hour, which was only $5 each. Ordered the harvest salad as well, which was very tasty. I never thought I'd say I wish there was more salad greens to go with all the grilled chicken on it. I am reserving 5 stars until I try their more complex dishes, but i'll definitely be back.

The food is consistently good and the prices are quite fair. The bar section has an exceptional happy hour.

The wife and I stopped in on a Friday night for a bite and some drinks. Unfortunately, the happy hour specials end at 8pm and we arrived just minutes after that. Was feeling pasta and most of their pasta dishes have Penne. I got their Garden Pasta for ~$12, no extra chicken. I was pretty damn content, fresh veggies and well seasoned, and I dont even like penne pasta. Their beer selection is respectable, nothing to swoon over but they will have something that will fit the bill. The wife tried a few cocktails, she enjoyed them from what I could tell ;) Oh, past 10ish? a D.J. came in and it slowly transitioned to a club like atmosphere, lights, bass, 80's/90's music, just FYI.

This place is great, my friends and I come here a lot. Perfect for college kids like us! The food and bar service is great. Everyone's pretty friendly there, also the parties they hold there are fun and we all have a great time.

  • Jey J.

Nothing to rave about in my book. It was busy however people at the bar were rowdy and loud and it was hard listening to my own conversation with people yelling at the TV's. I got the clam chowder soup which was not something I'd ever get again, i don't think i even finished it. I got the prime rib as my main entree. It was good but I've had better elsewhere for the same price or a little bit more.

  • Ryan K.

Like others have said it's definitely an interesting mix of a crowd - old drinkers, college kids and people there just for lunch (like us). Our server was good, the food was good and the prices were fair. Not a bad place to watch a game

  • Michelle N.

I have been coming here since my college days so that's at least 8 years now. This place hardly ever disappoints. While I will always think of it as a Mason bar, it attracts groups of all ages so it never seems like an annoying college bar. Their happy hours are great - a different theme or deal each night, and they have dancing after 10. Service is always great and the food is decent. On my most recent visit I noticed they added a covered patio - a nice addition! I didn't hang out there though because there was smoking.

  • Jamie E.

Went there on a Saturday night with a large group of people, at least 15 of us. Despite the large number of us the service was really good and the food was tasty. The bar crowd was a mix of young an older alike which was good to see. There wasn't anything too glaring that I could point out that I didn't like except for maybe where the band was set up. Overall a good experience and will go there again.

  • Nick L.

The owner contacted me so I'm updating my review to add that there is additional parking around back (I checked on google maps) and she also added that you can park in front of the furniture store. I'm not sure if there's a back door to the bar if you park around back, but at least there is additional parking. As another reviewer said you CAN get into the PJ Skidoos parking from Cho's Garden and take advantage of the traffic light if you're coming from the other direction.

Not impressed! The only good thing was our waitress! She was very nice and provided good service. The food was mediocre and my husbands beer was watery. The music was very loud! Interesting mix of people inside!

I've been going back to Skidoo's frequently have tried their Sunday brunch which I thought was delightful This buffet was made for hungry people on a Sunday afternoon and needs warm delicious food on their plate ASAP. After church on a Sunday, sometimes you just want to get in and out for a family meal so grandma doesn't get to pinch your cheeks a million times over. The servers are extremely pleasant, and not overbearing (plus as I mentioned before they are easy on the eyes).. It is a great local establishment and I love that they have kept it up to date. Anyone who says otherwise can go hang out at their chain restaurants filled with cookie cutter decor and menus.

I want to give them 4 stars, but after a recent experience there, I give them 3. The service was great, as usual. However, the food was very mediocre. My GF ordered the salmon salad, it was rather basic. I ordered the Rockfish with Scampi sauce. I ordered it because I love rockfish, but I made a mistake of having a scampi sauce on it. It tasted like something that a 19 year old line cook, who wanted to was [trying to be] creative, came up with. PJ's used to be good, but I feel like they have gone downhill lately.

Worst place in Fairfax City. Management is immature. Better food across the street at Cee Thai. Better steak down the street at Outback and better bar (management, clientele, service and prices) at Patriots Pub and Grille. Too many places in Fairfax to waste time on this dive. The only people that frequent this place are those that are incapable of experiencing change.

I have been going to this restaurant off and on since the 1980s. For as long as I can remember, there have always been friendly, competent staff (from the door to the bars and kitchen) and tasty food. I was just there 6/14 evening for dinner and have discovered what may be the spot for my favorite chicken quesadila. So many places serve a paper thin, poor excuse for this dish, but theirs is about a half inch thick with chicken and other yummy ingredients and wrapped in a tomato tortilla. I will return for that, for sure. Also plan to try their Sunday Brunch, and to sample the London Broil at some point (which I heard is pretty good).

I ate here recently & the food was very good. This used to be a "usual spot" to hang out when I was younger. It was fun to see the new, younger kids enjoying as I once did. I was there to have dinner though this time. The food was fantastic as was the service! They have really great specials too. I had a drunken rib eye steak dinner for $13.99!! This same dinner cost $25 at another restaurant up the street that also offers a drunken ribeye. I highly recommend it. Enjoy!!

Did a wedding reception here in their banquet room. It was the perfect location and very reasonably priced food. The food was great, staff was outstanding, nice decor, dance floor; everyone enjoyed themselves. Great place to host a party for less than 100-ppl in Fairfax. Parking lot is small though, but other than that loved this place!

Good food, reasonable prices, OK selection of beers, fairly quick service, and reasonable noise level IF you're sufficiently far from the bar. Wife and I went last night. We have been there a few times before, but not for a while. I had the half-rack of ribs, with a baked potato and slaw on the side, yummy BBQ sauce, and meat so tender it fell off the bone. (And a Guiness.) Really! I ate it with a knife and fork, and didn't have to scrape any meat off the bones. Wife had the Greek salad, with chicken on it, plus Southwest Egg Rolls (and a Pinot Grigio). That was enough that we skipped dessert (though many of them sounded quite tempting) and took home half the salad. She commented that the salad was very fresh -- many restaurants don't exactly have the freshest salad lettuce. Tip: it *seems* like you can only get into the parking lot when going westbound. However, you can in fact get into their parking lot from that of Cho's Garden (straight ahead when coming from Rebel Run, or left at that light if you're coming eastbound).

I've been going to Skidoos for about 3-4 years now, they're right next to my job, so I stop in to unwind. The staff has always been top notch and the food is great! Prices are very fair and the best thing on the menu is the Prime Rib :) I definitely recommend trying it...I do at least once a week. Great for families and they have a terrific banquet room for private parties. Brunch is awesome! 5 stars easy!

  • Hj W.

The height of mediocrity. I always feel queasy after eating from here for some reason. Meat tends to be dry. Drinks are sorta watery. It's a place that hasn't changed for a few decades now, and that isn't necessarily a good thing.

Very loud. ..but still open to serve food at 11 pm on a Sunday! Service was good..food was good...recommended.

I don't think their lines are very clean. I had a Sam Adams on draft, it tasted like a boddingtons. Real creamy, real nasty. Oddly enough, the Sierra Nevada I had was fine. We had nachos to snack on, which were pretty awesome, provided you like copious amounts of cheese. The salsa was real bland, but all in all an okay dish, for what it was, I suppose. On Saturday nights, there is a dj, and sometimes a live band. The dance floor was completely empty. I guess that's how they party in Fairfax. I hear their burgers are good, I'll let you know when I re-review this place. It has the makings of a four star spot, they've yet to wow me.

BAR REVIEW ONLY. Drinks are very reasonable and there is outdoor and indoor space to hang out talk and drink. Had some crab dip and was impressed. The other food looked good but I didn't have any.

This might be one of the worst experiences I've had at a local restaurant. Bad food, poor management, and rude bar tenders. Here's why: We made a reservation for 12 people for a 30th birthday party on a Friday night (11/2/12). Upon arrival, it became clear that they double-booked and did not have our table ready. Their entire party room was filled by one large party, so we got pushed to the side. They had NO where to put us. Our party of 12 ended up crammed in the back of the bar between 2 tables with seating for 7-8. It was noisy, hot, and cramped. The restaurant gave us free appetizers for the trouble - a nice gesture but at this point we just wanted places to sit. The appetizers weren't that good anyway, and neither was the salad we ordered for dinner. The waitress was very nice and on top of things, which helped. However, the bar tender was a complete jerk. We saw an open stool at the bar, that had been open for a long time. So, naturally, we asked if anyone was sitting there and he said "yes". When I explained to him that his manager double booked and our party of 12 was without seating he got an attitude and said "well too bad this stool is taken". Two minutes later another server came and gave it to someone else who the STAFF had been reserving it for. I complained to the manager, and I up until the moment we left the bar - he STILL had not pulled the bar tender aside to talk to him. Please avoid this place at all cost...or at least until they get better management. --- And if you read the "owners comment" please note: Yes, I will admit that the GM did a great job to try and accommodate. However, we never requested bar seating, we requested a seat in the actual restaurant This was just a simple management mistake. Also, the bar tender gave the seat to someone in their 20-30s - not a 75 year old. -----

I wanted to recommend PJ Skidoo's soups, which are tasty, well-seasoned, and homemade. From bean soup to chowders and chicken noodle, you can't go wrong with the soup of the day. My favorite entree: the chicken scalloppini -- perhaps a bit too heavy on the capers, but enough good food for a couple of meals. If you're an early bird diner, the happy hour meal specials are a bargain. Despite the somewhat generic decor, this is not a chain restaurant, and I've found the management is very responsive to any issue.

I've become a huge fan of P.J. SKidoos! I've been there several times with my large family - the waiters have been very friendly and fast with our orders. The French Onion soup is to die for! I recently held a business function there - a large party for 50-70 people. They were kind and allowed me to call a lot with questions which they always answered the phone and answered by questions. I would def hold another business function there! I would also do almost anything for a bowl of the FOS.

I've been coming back more frequently lately. It used to be me and my father coming here every other week, but now that he's out West, I have had to create a new tradition. Roommate dinners out it is! The spinach artichoke dip is my absolute favorite, and the current staff is friendly and always remembers what I like to drink!

I went to Skidoos last weekend for brunch and I am so glad I did. Their French toast was amazing and so was the Bloody Mary! No joke - best French toast I have had in a longggg time. They had just rolled out a new menu with some really good looking stuff. I was so torn on getting brunch or lunch! The service was friendly and the atmosphere is great. The manager on duty was really friendly and checked on me a couple times. I can't wait to go back and try some of the new menu. Love supporting our local businesses!

I work in an office about two miles from PJ Skidoos, and it is our go-to place. When you walk in there is this large two story combo bar and restaurant area that is airy and light-filled and so pleasant. This is also one of the few restaurants that isn't super noisy. The food is consistently good and the happy hour specials are fantastic. Just last week my office decided to hold a happy hour there, and we walked in with no reservation and were able to pull several bar tables together with the help of the staff. And we didn't have a reservation - yet we felt we were given great service throughout the evening. We got separate checks without even asking which was very beneficial as various group members came and left at different times. I ordered the potato skins and the nachos - which were excellent. My go-to menu item is the Blue Cheese Tenderloin Salad. It is great. So it isn't a chain, is large and pleasant, offers great service, good food, and has plenty of parking. And it's not too noisy. There are not too many other restaurants near Fairfax Circle that can meet all of these criteria - in fact I can't think of any other restaurant that does. So me & my hundreds of coworkers will just keep on thinking of P J Skidoos as our go-to place.

  • Martha P.

Skidoo's will never go down in history for its gourmet chow, but it is usually a good place to hunker down in a booth and talk and eat at leisure. I find their zucchini sticks are the best thing on the menu; other items are lackluster... a salmon salad that's serviceable but boring; a Reuben with mediocre corned beef; a passable chicken quesadilla. A friend recommended the prime rib special once, but it was atrocious. If you happen to hit them when they are busy, your service will suffer accordingly. But Skidoos is generally an OK place to have a relaxed, middle-class meal.

Have always loved PJ's. I drink here quite a bit with some of the guys and we love the happy hour specials. But what's up with the bar area? If you're going to have cocktail servers make sure they're something to look at. I've seen a few really cute girls working on the bar side but haven't in a while... Maybe I'm coming in on the wrong days?

This place deserves a solid 4 stars. Come to think of it there isn't much about this place that isn't solid. They just put a new outside dining area up thT looks pretty cool. I must mention that I have been here several times for happy hour and lunch. The place is big and can get crowded and loud for happy hour but I have always had fun. The lunch is spectacular, many items are great but I recommend the steak sandwich which is small and delish. Make sure you get the filet steak sandwich with cheese on English muffins, runs about 11 or 12 bucks but you won't be disappointed. This place is very close to my office and I love eating lunch here. As a bar, I have been here a few times for football games and I enjoy it. They have several large screen tvs that are great! I recommend this establishment highly!

This place is great. The food is awesome and they have a little bit something for every palate. The drinks are well made and reasonably priced. The staff is the best part, always incredibly nice and willing to go the extra mile to be outstanding.

Had not been to P.J. Skidoo's in some 20+ years until a get together the other day of a bunch of folks that graduated from Fairfax High School (FHS) back in the 19981-1988 or so range. We used to come here back in the day to drink. Not a lot has changed in all that time. Seems like the same layout as the old days. Good selection of beers. Even though the place was swamped on a Friday evening - our server did a good job of checking up on us and keeping us supplied with cold beverages. I was drinking Dominion Ale that evening - and went through a number of them - I was never without a cold one! It's always to smoky in the bar area - and as a non-smoker it's unpleasant but I came to see and hang out with folks I've not seen in a very long time - so I endured it. After a couple of hours, we moved outside and got tables - as it was to damn loud inside. Ordered their Nachos - decent but would have liked a version with some meat!

I used the "three strikes, you're out" approach with this place. My family and I live nearby, have tried it three times (including twice when we were hosting extended family from out of town), and have had the same bad results each time- mediocre (at best) food and service. The servers appeared to be college students and basically ambivalent/indifferent about their performance while disappearing for long stretches, possessing only minimal knowledge of the menu items, and getting orders wrong. This level of effort extended to the kitchen- the quality of the food seemed to be somewhere in the realm of low to medium grade supermarket quality. I would chalk it up as an aberration if this had happened only once but, as noted above, it was the same experience each of the three times we visited. My wife and I chuckle every time we drive by and see their parking lot overflowing with cars (usually in the evening). I can only attribute these crowds to one of two factors: 1) There is a ridiculous shortage of sit-down family restaurants and/or bars in Fairfax City (especially on Fairfax Boulevard), made worse by the recent closure of the nearby Outback Steakhouse. Desperate times call for desperate measures, I guess. I would encourage these folks to try Hard Times Cafe in downtown Fairfax City (or elsewhere in the DC area) as an alternative- always stellar service and grilled wings that will blow your mind they're so good. 2) From everything I've heard and read, this place is an institution in the area and obviously must have been good at some point. I guess a lot of their customers continue going there out of habit, tradition, nostalgia for past quality, etc.

We are new to the Fairfax area and have visited here 3 times already. Food has been top notch. I have ordered a Greek salad and the chicken sandwich. All of the food has been enjoyed the my family. This will be a regular place for us. I gave it 4 stars as the food service has been slow.

I was really disappointed in PJ's this weekend. Let me just set this up, PJ Skidoo's was where my parents went on their first date, that's how long my family has been coming to this staple in fairfax. Last night my family and some friends, about a group of 11 people, came to celebrate my brothers birthday. We made reservations, because with such a large group its a must. I was the first to arrive so the hostess took us through the crowded restaurant to a long table placed in the middle of everything. There was very little space on either side for the servers, costumers and bus boys to get by. The bus boys had to lift the large plastic bins above their head to get by. It was very uncomfortable, I couldn't believe they just stuck us in the middle. The food was decent, nothing to write home about. We got the tex-mex egg rolls, spinach artichoke dip and calamari. The appetizers were decent and very filling so I opted for a salad for dinner. I wish I could give them a better rating but the seating and service last night just weren't what I've come to know from Skidoo's. Overall, we were pretty disappointed.

My boyfriend and I are in the area from out of town and wanted to go somewhere fun and casual on a Thursday early evening. Man, did we nail it! From the moment we walked in, we felt a fun, friendly vibe. We sat outside under a very impressive tented patio and our bartenders (Costa and Costa) were so much fun and accommodating. We got wings and chicken tenders from the happy hour menu, they were delicious! And, the drinks were perfect. Little did we know it was "college night", but by 8:00 the college students showed up in droves. What seemed like a less-than-desirable scene for a "mature" couple like we turned out to be a blast! The kids were all fun, yet respectful. We ended up sticking around for a while and just having a swell time. We will make it a point to stop in again next time we're in town!

Skidoos has been part of a Sunday Funday tradition for 3 years now. I usually come either afternoon and stay through karaoke or evening/late night for karaoke most Sundays. During football season Skidoos has beer specials during the games, sometimes if games start at 3pm the drink specials last until then end of the last game which is sometimes past 11pm..can't beat that! There are also appetizer specials of $4.99- all of the apps are very good, my favorites however are the potato skins, the spinach dip, fried zucchini, and the chicken tenders...basically the entire list haha. I've also come for dinner dinner many times- always thoroughly enjoyed my meals and service (I tend to sit in the bar area) and all February they're having a special on their Prime Rib and it's AWESOME- go try it. Speaking of bar area, Bailey and Eddie are two of my favorite Fairfax bartenders; they're both really nice, attentive, funny, and awesome at remembering who you are even if you aren't in there as often as me :)..A bit about the karaoke- I am awful, but I've sang here a handful of times and never felt overly embarrassed or judged; there's just a nice vibe and decent people who hang out here that you can make a fool of yourself and still come back the next weekend without hanging your head. Travis is currently the DJ but he's moving to Florida this month, I'm excited to see who's taking his place! (Come back, Adam!).

So I actually liked PJ Skidoos, I live within walking distance and come on a regular basis. Tonight after being at the Fairfax Racket Club next door, my friends and I tried to go over for a quick drink wearing tennis shorts, shoes and polos and was turned away for my attire! Not only is that ridiculous because we've all been there on many occasions wearing the same exact outfit but PJ Skidoos is supposed to be a friendly place. All my friends and I from school will go from Buffalo Wing University to PJ's but now none of us even want to go back because if they think they're too good for us then there's plenty of other bars that will have us. This isn't Miami or even DC and PJ's isn't club LIV or Story - your a neighborhood bar & restaurant where people come to relax and enjoy themselves. Your doing yourselves a disservice by acting so pompous.

When I first went to this place I had mixed feelings. The environment felt good, but the vibe of the people seemed off. I requested a table outside and you know what, this is a nice little gem and I wish I lived closer. I ordered the prime rib because that is what I read about. Everyone raves about the prime rib. I'll be honest, I thought it was good, but not great. It was not what it was hyped up to be anyway. Now the short ribs on the other hand... Damn! That is a bowl of heaven. I will be getting that next time I go because that is my taste in a nutshell! They were also serving the crab legs so of course had to get some. I found them to be a little too fishy in flavor. Crab legs normally aren't that fishy but I have no idea what kind they were serving. They were also sweet. That is just my personal taste and I am real picky about fish because I hate it. I like lobster tail, crab legs, and shrimp. Oh, I also do sushi on occasion but I really dislike fish so the crab legs would probably be delicious to everyone else. The service was friendly. The manager was checking on the tables to make sure the customers were happy. They had a good selection of beer (Guinness yay). I dig this place. Good food, good atmosphere, good service.

As a native of Fairfax, experiencing all the changes over the years; everything that is my childhood, almost gone. There is one place that has remained a constant & thats PJ Skidoos. From the night time fun down to Sunday brunch with the fantastic Manager, Gerrianne, I will always feel welcomed & at home here. Not to mention the generosity, family atmosphere & loyalty the owners exude towards all patrons. it's no wonder they have continued to thrive over the course of 30 + years. With the inevitable growing city we love so much, I know I can always count on the PJ Skidoos staff to cater to the history of our home town & keep the Fairfax family together.

My first time to this Fairfax City favorite. A pleasent surprise. Nice and classy atmosphere. An extensive menu with lots of variety. They have several dinner specials. Our work group of 7 were all pleased. I have the broiled rockfish with spiced shrimp, winter veggies and house salad. Outstanding service and great all round experience.

We ate here for the first time last Sunday. Everyone was friendly. Our server, Mimi, was excellent. The food was satisfying and the prices were not too expensive. We will definitely eat here again. I wish they had more than one dartboard for others to use. Also, there is a big sign at the door that says "Proper attire required." I was wearing capris and a t-shirt, my oldest son was wearing a tank top and shorts. So not sure of their definition.

Had a memorable and wonderful birthday party using PJ Skidoos private banquet room. The staff and management were wonderful and very attentive. I will definitely hold our parties here!

I was driven (by hunger) and a desire for cow, and a recommendation from a bartender, to PJ Skidoo's. I called ahead and placed an order to a bartender (it was quite loud in his background). When I told him my order, 16 oz. prime rib, baked potato, and blue cheese on the salad (their prime rib comes with garden salad, and your choice of vegetable, cole slaw, baked potato (after 4pm), mashed potatoes or fries. **these entrees include garden salad only), the gentleman said, "Come whenever you're ready, our prime rib is always ready." I was surprised and hopeful. I hadn't been to PJ Skidoo's in a very long time, so I've no preconceptions. I found a parking space right in front of the door, though the parking lot was adequately full. The parking spaces are a generous size. As I entered a lady walked up to the hostess podium and greeted me. I noticed a chalkboard with specials listed. December's main event is a drunken prime rib. The hostess didn't know what it was exactly, but said it's very popular. When I told her I had, unfortunately, already ordered for take out, she directed me to the bar. The bar was not crowded, though the seats were mostly filled. music was a little loud, and there were many televisions each with different sporting events and news. One of the three or four bartenders acknowledged me almost immediately, and I said I'd ordered carry out. "Prime rib, right?" He asked. I was equally impressed when he walked about 6 feet away and came back within seconds with my order all bagged and ready to go. On my way out, I saw a staff member, all in black, and asked if he could describe the drunken prime rib, he started to, but then stopped a waitress, carrying a couple of entree's and said she'd describe it better. As soon as she started, a manager arrived, and she asked him to help me so she could deliver the food to her table. I thought that was best. If it were my food, I'd want it right away. Dimitri was very helpful. He told me the prime rib is marinated in molasses and Yuengling beer. I don't recall if he said over night or for at least 24 hours. Either sounds delicious to me, and I will be back for it. I took my goodies home, took a picture, and a few bites. The salad is basic and the blue cheese dressing standard, but delicious. The prime rib was ordered medium rare, and that's what I received (yipee!) it's nicely seasoned on the outside, not overly salty, and perfectly, and evenly cooked throughout. When I returned home, I realized I'd forgotten to ask for horseradish, and was happy to see a little bit in the container. I would recommend they add more to better match the size of the steak ordered, but I was happy to see any at all, considering I didn't ask for it. Over all, this was a delightfully delicious experience, and I'll be back. Yes, I'll definitely be back.

Came for lunch with a friend and had a really good first experience. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated promptly. Our server was accommodating and had some good suggestions for good. He was very attentive to our needs and other staff pitched in when he wasn't available. My friend got the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich and I got the Monte Cristo. He let me sample his and I really liked. I thought Monte Cristo was perfectly made and it was so good I could have a second one. The place was very clean and the decor is very inviting. It has lots of vintage signs on the walls and the table presentations are set very well. The price of the food was very reasonable which makes me want to come back on a regular basis. This business is gun carry friendly. I'm very happy that my friend recommended the place and I look forward to my return visit. Thanks PJ Skidoos for providing a great dining experience!!

We recently went to PJ Skidoos on a Friday evening. With the weather outside good, they had a decent looking, small outside bar setup, though we opted to go inside. Parking was a bit of a hassle even though the restaurant wasn't particularly crowded. There wasn't anything particularly notable about their service or food. We tried a few appetizers (calamari was a bit stringy even when we got it right from the kitchen, artichoke dip was weak in taste) and the entrees were okay. We all had some sort of burger or sandwich and they were average. Fries were smaller in portion than expected and they were also over-salted. Overall, it was ok, but nothing remarkable; maybe it was an off-day. We'd be willing to try the restaurant again but will wait awhile to return there. Just a heads up regarding cell phone service around that area - of course this isn't anything to do with the restaurant and this isn't factored into the review of the restaurant, but if you have VZW as your carrier, you will have very poor 4G LTE service while you are there. If you're inside, you're lucky if you get a 3G signal. FYI.

I have been coming to Skidoo's for a LONG time now and recommend it to anyone looking to try a Fairfax staple. They have great happy hour specials and dollar drafts on Sunday for football. The food is good. I can't think of anything off the menu that I flat out didn't like. The service is great, everyone there is super friendly and seem to genuinely like working there (which is awesome in this area!). Their late night events are fun, I have been to several Halloween parties and jam sessions here and have always had a good time. Overall it's a pretty nice place. My parents even ask to go here when they are in town, and that's saying something since they are pretty picky eaters. :)

Very good service -our waiter was excellent. His recommendations were honest and right-on. Great deal on Mondays and Wednesdays for half price bottles of wine. Nice patio, even has some yard games on the side. Good food.

Had dinner with friends here. Made it early enough to get in on their early bird specials. The boneless new york strip special was great. Under $10 for an 8 oz strip is a bargain. The serving staff was polite and helpful. The food cooked correctly, was tasty and all around we all had a great meal for a great price.

I have not tried out their regular fare and have only been here for lunch, but it is a solid establishment for brunch. The service has always been incredible. Their "all you can eat" style brunch always has something for everyone. I've always had great service here, so I will definitely be back!

"Spectacularly Mediocre" - according to my dining companion, and I thoroughly agree. Having lived in Fairfax for 30 years, it occurred to me that I had never tried this restaurant - even though it is right around the corner from my apartment. Since I was relocating, it seemed like a great idea for lunch when my girlfriend invited me. We should have taken a pass. We arrived in the middle of the hot late August weekday afternoon lunch rush, and the parking lot wasn't full. Even so, when we stepped into the foyer, there was nobody present at the hostess stand, and it took a few moments of standing there awkwardly before someone saw us and seated us. The interior of the establishment has one of those "quirky pub" approaches, with seemingly random decor items scattered throughout, but it all kind of blends into the background and merely seems "busy." Though they claim to be a family friendly restaurant, the waitresses are all poured into those tight booty shorts that are more appropriate for Hooters down the street. Our waitress was perfectly nice, but I never felt like her level of customer service was more than the standard minimum, and this was mirrored in the menu available. Since there were several lunch specials that "sounded" lovely (intentional use of quotes), my friend and I decided to each order one and share. I chose the grilled romaine salad with chicken, and my friend chose the grilled cheese sandwich and soup special. When our lunch was delivered, I was shocked to see the grilled cheese sandwich was made of plain, white bread. It looked like Wonder bread. For the cheese filling, it was painfully obvious the cook used generic processed cheese food slices. There was absolutely nothing inspiring or delicious about it. I haven't experienced a sandwich like this since I was a child and my mother took me to the 12th Street Grill in podunk, WV. Thankfully, we still had the salad and the soup to enjoy. Oh, if only we could have enjoyed them. While the sound of grilled romaine salad with chicken is yummy, in reality it decidedly wasn't. Instead of a lightly grilled and seasoned heart of romaine, my plate was covered with a limp and wilty heap of lettuce, with a very small and bland quantity of chicken breast pieces. Since we were sharing, I only took half the salad, and still didn't finish it because it simply wasn't tasty. Still, I held out hope for the soup. Upon first taste of the soup with shredded cheese in the center, my hopes were dashed. The cheese was the most generic shredded cheddar that didn't get even slightly melty in the heat of the soup. On first taste, the sodium overpowered any other flavors, and I put my spoon down. Likewise, my dining companion didn't finish her share of the lunch, and neither of us were inclined to take the leftovers with us. At the end of our lunch, we agreed it was a good thing she had a gift card from work so neither of us actually paid our own money for this experience.

Delicious Cheeseburgers and half-price bottled wine on Monday and Wednesday nights. With bottles starting at $8 before discount, is there anything else really to say? They do shut down dinner service after 10PM, and it turns into a loud, undergrad hangout.

I grew up in Fairfax and this was a frequent stop when I came home from college. Fast forward many years and now it's one of our go-to places for happy hour. Their happy hours are from 4-8pm. Beers as low as $2.50 and apps are $5. They have rail drink specials starting at $2.50. Service is always good and we rarely have a problem finding a table. There is an outdoor bar and patio that opens up on nice weather. Parking can be spotty. It right now no other business shares the lot so parking is easy.

Really great food. Went for lunch but they were also still serving brunch. Everything was really good. I got the London broil which was delish. My daughter got the french toast which was amazing. A little bummed some things you couldn't get until after 4 but then my daughter wouldn't have been able to get the French toast since brunch would have been over. Will go again.

Really, it's an old establishment that has kept it's perfect body! I've been here numerous times after discovering the awesome happy hour specials. Services is always great in the bar! The tables have HH listed on all their pub tables and booths. Your glass is never empty and the food and drink prices rock! My fav appetizer is the fried zucchini and the hot wings! All their bar food is only $4.99. Drink specials are more than you can count on both hands. They have DogFish for you beer lovers and their mix a good drink, for those of us who love a good heavy pour. There is a two-part bar area, one that is pretty well lit, and one area that is dark where no one should know your name! There is also an outdoor area, but let's ignore that during these summer months. I have not dined in the restaurant but it always seems busy. They have dinner specials every evening. Parking is ok. There is limited parking in the front and back, or you can park in the area behind the furniture store.

Skidoos is a great place for dinner. The menu is suprisingly good! I highly recommend their Prime Rib, its fantastic! Brunch is also great, its a good start to watching the games there on Sundays. Ive been going there for years, its a staple in Fairfax, and has been open for over 30 years for a reason. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a great meal/ service.

Pros: Great venue to host large functions, especially on the lower level with it's own entrance way. Heavy portion sizes of good food. Cons: Events' waitstaff is less than attentive and accommodating.

Favorite place over the last 30 years. Best known for the prime rib and potato skins. Get the chocolate mousse as a desert. The house salad and bread is the best. The food has not change over the years it has the same best quality. Favorite time to go is during Memorial Day weekend.

Our first time trying this restaurant out tonight. Was very excited until I saw my waiter and heard the first 3 sentence he spoke. Spoke very fast like he was in a hurry. Showed no concerned whatsoever.. after ordering our drinks and an appetizer to share. Continued looking through their menu. They have lots to offer, and could meet each individuals liking. I ordered a crab cake sandwich with comes with fries and coleslaw. When ordering I specifically asked if I would be able to substitute my coleslaw for steamed veggies. His reply was Yes. I Do not like coleslaw and was glad I am able to change it out. Bf ordered their special, bacon and blue ny steak. Oh and the entire time he took our order, he was not writing anything down. Received our food in a decent amount of time. Steak was cooked perfectly to the temperature ordered. My order came out with coleslaw and steamed veggies. I questioned that I had substituted. He did not apologize just asked if I wanted him to take it back. I am hungry So no I would like my food to Stay at the table. He did not offer to bring fries out either. Any smart wait staff would know to fix their mistake. But Oh Well..So after dropping off our food he did not ask if I am finished with the appetizer and immediately picked it up to clear the table. Had to tell him that I was still working on that. From then on he did not come back to our table to check if we needed anything or How everything is. Although he did walk by the table seated just a few short mins after us 6 times. Checking up on them, clearing plates and such out. At the end he asked them if they'd like any coffee or desserts.. we literally had to tell him we are finished and We'll need a box. Did not ask us if we would like to order any desserts. I felt as if he discriminated us, Bc we're asian. To sum up my review, the food here is pretty Good, I'm pretty impressed. I am sure the other wait staffs are more professional and it was just our luck we got seated in Matt's section. Working in the hospitality industry for almost 10 years I understand one should try to make guests feel welcomed and try to accommodate their needs. He should definitely receive more training..

***** 3 1/2 Stars***** I've come here with co-workers for dinner and just for happy hour. Decent bar with decent happy hour deals. PJ's offers decent beverage and food deals for happy hour. I like the bartenders and staff here. They always take good care of me and my friends. I know they have live DJs here during some nights but I haven't stayed long enough to experience it.

I helped host a seminar in one of their event spaces last night. The staff was very communicative and helpful once on site. If you also are looking for an event venue for an event too small or informal for their large banquet room downstairs, you should expect to bring some sort of sound amplifier so that your guests can hear you over the bar noise. Otherwise, it was a wonderful experience and we hope to go back. PJ Skidoos has a great local buzz to it, too, so we were able to capture a greater part of our market just because they knew of PJ's, their friendly reputation, and fun atmosphere. Definitely a win... and I'm looking forward to going back to grab some grub on non-business means as well.

Having been in the DC area for college and then visiting friends, I've been to PJs Skidoos a few times. It's a good go to casual spot if you're looking for all American grub. I've tried a variety of things on the menu from burgers to lobsters to clam chowder but my favorite is their crab cake. Freakin' yummy in ma tummy. I was actually at a catered event where I first tried one and then when I realized where it came from and noted it for my next visit. There is so much crab ... oh gosh, I'm craving it right now! Service is nice and fast and prices are completely as expected. I've never been here for the bar scene but they a decent sized bar and outdoor patio bar that I'm sure would be fun! Now how do I get those crab cakes in Indiana...?

I believe I came here for happy hour with friends and the deals were decent spinach & artichoke dip was okay but nothing that really wowed me. The other time I was here was for dinner with family and again it wasn't anything that wowed me. Overall PJ Skidoos is your typical sports bar with your average bar food.

I've never dined in here before, because I usually just pass by the area on my way from GMU to my house. Interesting combination but SUPER good: the calamari & the crab dip. Try when it's still hot or warm.

This place is so weird. The crowd varies between old timers with walkers and GMU students. I've been here dozens of times over the last several years, and while the food is always decent, the service and experience is wildly inconsistent. I ordered a Kendall Jackson Chardonnay at one point, and what arrived did not even remotely taste like Kendall Jackson. There's no way that's what I was served. I pointed it out to our server, who said he watched the bartender pour it from the bottle...which made me wonder if there's replacing going on. Often times, we waited an unusual amount of time for refills. Sometimes, not. I did host a party a couple of years ago in the banquet room downstairs, and that experience was phenomenal. The price was right, and the food was delicious. The two fellas who worked the bar/room were terrific. I guess it just depends on who you get when you go? Four stars because the party experience was fab.

Love this place. I've been for happy hour a few times,I will be going back once it's warmer to take advantage of the out door seating. Sunday brunch was priced very fair and had a good selection. My boyfriend and I always seem to go back because of the really friendly service and fair prices. Also: this tiny blonde women works here. She was not a waitress or bartender she had to be management.. can't remember her name but she was probbly the nicest person on the planet.

I recently held a family event for 80 people in their Banquet Hall on the recommendation/suggestion of a friend, who has held 2 events there. The service awesome and the food very delicious, with a good variety (to pick from). I recommend them as a venue for parties under 100. On a the fancy scale of 1-5, I'd give it 3.5, but we weren't looking for anything more than that. The staff was great to work with and everyone that attended was impressed. I'd definitely consider holding another event there and highly recommend them.

My best friend and her fiance (now husband!) had their rehearsal dinner here last weekend. There's a really nice banquet hall in the basement, and if you can overlook the low ceiling it's a nice space. The bartender was super friendly and that staff had decorated the tables beautifully. The service was impeccable, considering they served 60 people a three course meal. During cocktail hour we snacked on some of the best spinach artichoke dip I've had, a fresh vegetable tray and various pastries. Dinner was awesome. Pretty standard salad and bread plate. My entree was a flaky and delicious crab-stuffed flounder with broccoli. It was so light and airy and flavorful. I even ate the broccoli--which i never do (Debie K. would be proud!). The bride-to-be had london broil and she raved about it. I'd only been here to have drinks once before, a couple of years ago, so I wasn't expecting it to be this classy and for the food to be this awesome. I highly, highly recommend this place for a function.

HH was great, $2-$5 beer, wine, shooters and bombs. HH appetizers as well. Service was not bad. But not great, just mediocre. The crowd was much older than my group of friends but then again, it was a Monday night. Definitely will visit again nonetheless.

I found this place on a whim from a recommendation at the hotel that I stayed in, and I am so glad that I went. The food, the value and the staff are all wonderful. I got the prime rib, and it was tender, juicy and had minimal fat. I ordered the meat medium rare and it was so delicious. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and very intriguing. The restaurant itself is 35+ years old and is housed in a historic looking building. So, from the outset, you are intrigued by the look. On the inside is a very cozy atmostphere with nice booths, dark wood paneling, and lots of interesting signage. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. The prices are good with plenty of bang for your buck. They have daily lunch specials that are a good value, especially for the portion size.

Opened in 1978, it's one of the oldest bar and grills in Northern Virginia. That's just three years after Chili's. And like Chili's it has tacky stuff on the walls and plenty of televisions, but this place hasn't franchised, diversified into southwest flair, or probably even renovated. And despite the older, grungy feel, I appreciate that. It's still serving traditional American fare with low-end steaks, seafood, and pastas. I enjoyed their crab dip and grilled chicken salad.

We came here to watch a sporting event on a random Tuesday night. At first I thought it was oldies night as half the patrons were over 40 and the Pointer Sisters were blaring from the speakers. As the night went on, a more diverse group of people stared rolling in. The DJ went from Pointer SIsters to stuff like "Baby Got Back" the REMIX version. LOL, YES you read that right. Ummm....not sure how i feel about that but it made for some damn good people watching. It felt like a piece of the Jersey Shore had made its way to Virginia. Come here with a good group of friends, knock back a few brews and watch the crowd.....you really can't go wrong.

FIrst time there on Thursday night for a large family Birthday party (adults). The fried calamari was really great and arrived at the tables very hot. The salad I was served was a little skimpy and a little underdressed. Next to me the salad was drownding in dressing, and went uneaten as a result. I ordered Drunken Rib Eye($19) which I have had at many others Restaurants. Best at Sweetwaters in Centreville($25). My baked potato was starchy and an hour or so past it's carry over time. It was 7 p.m. so should have been fresh. The meat was over cooked, not the med. rare I ordered. Did not want to embarass the host/hostess that invited us..so I said nothing. My husband enjoyed his crab/lobster/prime rib combo and was very happy with meal. Not completely sold on the place. Would prob. go to Sweetwater instead.

Went in this past Sunday to catch the last half of the Redskin's game because Glory Days was completely packed. We got a nice quiet corner booth, away from the loud bar. We ordered some hot wings, the BBQ Baby Back Ribs, and the Rib Eye along with some beer. The food was meh, okay, but my Yuengling was delicious~ The atmosphere was kind of strange though... Couldn't really put my finger on it, but overall, it was a nice dinner. Don't think it'd ever be my first choice go-to, however.

One of my favorite spots in Fairfax VA. Family owned, not some chain where you feel like herded cattle. The look reminds me of cheers, alot of brass and polished wood. The food is great and the have a wide variety! I would go back for the sunday brunch(10a-2p)-the best I have had in a while!! Mondays is poker night and MNF with drink specials till 9pm, Tuesdays is ladies night and attracts a younger crowd from the local college scene again with drink specials all night. Live DJ usually playing a mix of top40s-hip hop and dance. Sundays are great watching football because they have plenty o' HD TVs!! Although you will encounter alot of Redskins fans, nothing wrong with that. I would go back

I never really could not understand the draw my senior citizen aunts and uncles have towards the place. It always feels like a bizarre twist of a sports bar with senior citizens and families eating around. Perhaps because I have only eaten here in the presence of my elder relatives do I have a biased view of this restaurant... or at least it's clientele. Anyway - the food itself is decent. Steaks and such are nothing spectacular, but definitely steps above a Sizzler or equivalent. I've had better steaks, but then again I have eaten the most amazing steaks of my life at Cut in Beverly Hills. Not quite sure what this establishment's angle is... because I swear I've seen this casual dining format performed before... many, many times.

Went here for dinner around 5 on a Friday. Surprisingly, it was already sort of busy, with the outdoor area filled. No wait and plenty of seating inside though. Interesting mix of people--younger people, older people, bikers, families. The atmosphere was fine and the people were friendly. The servers all seemed to be college-aged. Our waiter was very nice. The food was just okay. My date got the monte cristo, and he said it was pretty good. I got a cheeseburger and an amaretto sour. My drink was heavy on the sour and extremely light on the amaretto. My burger, I'm pretty sure, was frozen. It was a tight and compact disc (not hand-formed) and, even though it was still pink inside, it was not even the slightest bit juicy. And I mean no juice at all. Disappointing. Wasn't crazy about the fries either. They have thick-cut heavily seasoned wedge-type fries. I'm a classic fry kind of girl. Probably won't be back.

Went to this place on a Monday night for happy hour and it was decent. $3 or $4 wine glasses, $2.99 rails, other specialty drinks cheaper than usual, appetizers on special. I got the buffalo wings and they were also decent. The bartender we had tended to us well and since it wasn't that crowded, he was even able to make a few jokes with us. There were a lot of old men in there--but I guess that's who frequents a bar on Monday evenings.

If I want to eat and drink at a suburban dive, I'll go to Hard Times. Either way, the only reason you should be there is to drink (or if you're already drunk), and you'll feel like you need a shower when you leave. If you're a fan of Chili's, a bar fly, or both, you'll love this place.

I go here all the time for happy hour with my coworkers. They have some amazing drink specials. They have the typical bar menu with a few added bonuses, like king crab legs. The wait staff is friendly, but can sometimes get side-tracked when there are a lot of people there. It's a fun hangout and they have a DJ and dancing on the weekend nights. I would definitely suggest it for a great happy hour. I have gone a couple times for lunch, and it takes quite a while to get the food, but it's always pretty good. If the weather is nice, I would suggest the outdoor dining/bar area. It's always my preference for our after-work hang-out.

PJ's has been around since about 1982 and it's truly one of a kind. I've been here with friends and family for dinner and I've been here with friends for happy hour. I've had a few of the items on the menu and haven't been disappointed yet. Their ribs are meaty and filling, they have a good crab cake, the ribeye is delicious, the prime rib sandwich is tasty but my favorite meal there is the london broil. They serve fresh hot bread with your meal and the caesar salad I have is always fresh. The day time bartender Whitney is truly one of a kind. She can make an impressive drink and in my opinion has a great personality. The only down side I have found is when some of the guy night time bartenders come on that if you aren't a lady then it's hard to get their attention and the quality of your drink drops. They have a wonderful brunch on Sundays and they aim to please. If you are looking for a nice place for a good family dinner this is the place....but come early because after 9 many nights they have a DJ so it gets louder.

For what might be considered "bar food," the menu was relatively deep and eclectic. We went with King Crab Legs, which were terrific, and Sesame Chicken Bites for appetizers. Waiter was very personable and attentive, though we were the only 2 people on the "restaurant" side. My only suggestion would be to add more televisions to the restaurant side. Good first experience for sure

Was deservedly asked to leave. walked out with the kind bouncer (not sarcasm) and when I was leaning against the way so I didn't fall off the face of the earth, somebody decided to start a row with me. The bouncer got between the two of us and sent captain tough-guy on his way. I'm pretty lucky, because at that point a toddler could have mugged me. Awesome staff.

I'm probably never going to this place again. I'm 20 years old and went with my boyfriend to get something to eat that night at p.j. skidoos. The bouncer asked for our I.D.s and when I said just to eat I have to be 21? When I saw a child eating at the resteraunt. He just kept asking for it and then I gave it to him and he just looked at me. I said again "I'm just eating?" Finally he said "okay they'll help you over there." Finally we got a table and I mentioned what happened to the waiter and he said that the bouncer mentioned to him that I couldn't drink. I was so confused! I never said I wanted to drink. I dont even like alcohol. So rudeness level a 10.

Just called to find out if they have Monday night specials - unfortunately I don't speak Spanish. I asked 3 different ways about their Monday specials. The woman on the other end of the phone basically read me their menu. Frustrating. We will find another option for our group of 12 coworkers. Restaurants need to have someone answer the phone that can communicate!!!!!!!!

I've been here before on a business trip, but now that I live here, I thought I'd try out this local bar to sample the food and drink with a new perspective.Since this is right around the corner from where I live, I guess in the back of my head I was looking for a local bar to hang out at. Being alone, I sidled up the bar and started in a conversation with the locals that were already there. The people here in Northern Virginia are very friendly! After reading the reviews, I decided to try the buffalo wings - and true to form, they were delicious! Crispy and tasty, I was instantly hooked. Coupled with a few beers, it made for a tasty (albeit, very bachelor-ly) dinner...hey, I did have veggies in the form of celery sticks! Very nice place, nice people and good food. Yes, I will be back.

I have been to Skidoos (3) times. I am picky, picky and even more picky and I have not been let down on any of my three visits. The food was excellent by my standards, and the customer service has been beyond superb. I took a friend of my with me on the second visit. He is even picker than I am, and he had nothing other than positive things to say about the food and customer service. I plan on returning and trying out some of the special events/activities that they offer. Only thing I would like to see, are updated appetizers and LAMB on the menu please!

I'm just rating this strictly on the happy hours because my roommates and I always head out to this local place to enjoy cheap $8 pitchers and $4 appetizers. (The Mozzarella Sticks are amazinggggg, but the Chicken Fingers are very dry). Also, their wings are AWESOME! They're rather large, and always come out perfectly hot and the skin on the outside is crisp even though it has been tossed in wing sauce! Also, they have a complimentary taco bar on Wednesdays and complimentary wings on Friday. Friday gets busy and those wings disappear almost immediately though. And lately, people have been calling in to reserve happy hour tables which gets reallllllly annoying because we'll get there at 4 to discover all tables are reserved....but the parties won't even be showing up til 6! We'll grab those reserved tables temporarily though since we've been going there so often and the waitresses know us. Speaking of waitresses, the lovely ladies are generally great with service. Very friendly! Our waitress even brings us new pitchers without us even having to ask any more-haha!

This is a fun place to watch a football game and the outdoor bar is nice when it's open in the warm weather. The nightlife is hit or miss. Sometimes when we go on one weekend, it's packed and people are dancing and it's fun, other times when we go, there's barely anyone there. The staff is very friendly and the service is always good. I think the food is definitely better than your average bar food. They have some amazing specialty entrees and their sandwiches and burgers are good.

  • Nick S.

It's the "average' American restaurant/pub/bar type of place. I can't say it's great, but it ain't bad either. Burgers, Steak, Teriyaki Chicken have been hit or miss here. Check out the daily specials banner found above the main entrance, there are some good bar deals at times. Oh, and they have a decently-sized banquet room, but I have never used it, so I can't comment on that.

The food ia yummy. Had a work party here. We had a lot of fun. The only negative is that the basement the ceiling is low. I felt tall but if you have anyone over 5 7 they will have to stoop.

This review is for the Sunday brunch. Our server was friendly and refilled out drinks whenever it was needed. Food was a big problem. The brunch had a good selection, including scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, biscuit, gravy, salmon, pasta, waffle, omelets, bagels, muffins, fresh fruit and salad. My problem was that most of the food did not look or taste good. The salmon was dry and flavorless. The biscuit and waffle was a little doughy. The scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon looked like something you get from the hotel complimentary breakfast. Pasta was overcooked, with the tomato sauce tasted like something from the jar. The fruit did not look freshly cut. Salad looked fresh, but it was a little disappointing to have only one type of dressing. The only thing I thought was good was the omelet. You can get better tasting food from IHOP.

I cannot give this place more than 2 stars because I have only been there for dancing and drinking so have no idea what the food is like. If you are looking for a solid local place to not worry about the long drive to the city this place wins hands down. Crowd is a bit of the wannabee ritzy type but most of No VA is. Its a more watered down douchy version of LA though LA is probably worse. It is definitely worth going there on a Wed or Thur night

PJ Skidoos is a very similar atmosphere to the Auld Shebeen, minus the Irish. I've typically received great service from competent waitstaff and knowledgeable bartenders. TVs are large so it's decent for a game night. PJ's has a lot of really spectacular happy hours and other deals that are worth checking out. Some are more frequented than others so be mindful of unexpected crowds. The food is...interesting. I've ordered really great, if slightly expensive, entrees. Most things are very decent but a few of the appetizers are totally off the mark. Nachos? Terrible. Mozzarella sticks? Not bad at all. It's a little hit or miss. Some of the appetizers are free in the form of buffets during during happy hour. Kitchen switches over to the late night menu pretty early in the evening. Like Auld's, it's a dark but warm place with a diverse clientele ranging from old guys ranting about lost love to college kids to the finest weirdos Fairfax has to offer. Prices are on that level too. The frequent specials make things great though. I've been to a couple events hosted on the lower level and they were all good. Great service. PJ's does the whole DJ/dancefloor thing a few times a week and that usually attracts a decent crowd.

Because of all of the great reviews here; we decided to try the restaurant. We didn't have the best experience but will try it again. Our waitress was new so was pretty slow in getting refills, etc. Then she forgot my salad until my meal came out and offered to wrap it up for me. I was a waitress throughout college and know that you just don't do that. You offer them a dessert or take a few bucks off the menu. I had the Ribs which were pretty tender, but the fries were the best part. Next time we go, I will just get a burger and a club sandwich. We had the mozzarella sticks which were great as everyone had commented. All in all it was okay, and we would go back and give it another try. The atmosphere was nice.

I seriously LOVE dining here! It's probably my favorite restaurant in the Fairfax area. The food is amazing (highly recommend the crab legs - they are fantastic every time I've gotten them!) and the service is great. Friendly staff here. If you go on a Friday or Saturday night for dinner, make sure you make a reservation. Did I mention, RESERVATION? Yes, they take them here...even for a party of two. My friend and I made a reservation and we were sat immediately, while walk-in parties waited. The interior decor is beautiful and I agree with a previous rater - looks like the place from Cheers show from years ago. Prices are decent here. Great drink selections and happy hour deals. Parking can be a pain during peak times, but that's really my only complaint here.

The food is always good and the staff friendly for the most part. A little frustrated by the bar as of late; the regular bartenders seem to be losing shifts for some reason making it difficult to know who to expect on any given night. Seems to be too many bartenders behind the bar often which has resulted in more mistakes on checks (over charging) and bartenders tripping over one another causing slow service. I've also noticed the happy hour specials portions have gotten much smaller and the bartenders are now wearing shirts and ties. Doesn't make sense for a great local bar "where everybody knows your name." This is a neighborhood bar/restaurant that's been a popular place in Fairfax City for the past 20 plus years. Why change a good thing?

Since i work across the street from this place, there is nothing better than hitting up PJ Skidoos on a Friday after work. Plus they always start Happy Hour early for us teachers :) On Fridays they always have $2 domestic drafts (bud, miller, coors, etc) and have half price appetizers. Plus almost every week they have Buffalo Wings-- but move quickly because they always run out! The bar area can get really smokey, but they have installed those air cleaners to trap the smoke--- just not sure it actually works! Additionally, while friendly, the staff is always busy and so I suggest ordering a refill when they come by, even if you aren't quite ready! In the summer they have outdoor seating and every sunday night they have a great crowd for kareoke! In addition to a great happy hour, the restaurant is fantastic. The food is always cooked to perfection. Try the steak! While its no Ruth Chris, it definitely is fantastic for the price. The prices are resonable and the food is great! They also have a basement that can be rented out for events!

I've been here three times in the past two weeks. On all three occasions I was hoping to watch a game on the flat screen t.v. in the restaurant. The problem is that in the area where the t.v. is located, most of the seats don't really face it. The best view of the t.v. is from a table for 6, which they are reluctant to give to a party of 2 or 3 people, which is how many of us there were when I visited. I would certaintly understand if they want to reserve their bigger tables for bigger parties when the restaurant is busy, even moderately so. But, on all three occasions when I visited, the restaurant was nearly empty - I mean really empty, like 1 out of every 15-20 tables had people sitting at them. When I am in an empty restaurant, I shouldn't have to beg for a specific table. The first two times I did have to beg, and they reluctantly gave in. The third time, they wouldn't let our party of three sit at the table we wanted - instead we had to sit at a round table where two of us could see the t.v. and one couldn't. For the whole time we were there, we were the ONLY people in that particular dining room. It was a clinic on how to piss off your only customers. They also told us they would change the channel on the television. On two occasions they did it within five minutes. On the other occasion it turned into a big drama. I wouldn't even ask them to change the station if the place had actual people in it, but it does not seem unreasonable in a nearly empty restaurant. Enough about that. What about the food? Typical bar-restaurant food, predictably average. Nothing special and nothing terrible (well, those mushy, wedge-shaped french fries do actually border on terrible). On the bright side, the servers have always been terrific. To the management - during all three of my visits, your hostesses were the worst part of the experience. Train them about how to be flexible when the place is empty. The food is just what I expected it to be and what I paid for ... no more, no less. The servers are outstanding. Give them a pat on the back.

For what it is, it's alright. The food was OK. The service was OK. The place is close and convenient. I thought it was fine, I'm not sure I'd go back to it unless it was kind of an emergency.

Yeah ... PJ Skidoos ... is it anything amazing or special? No. It is a poor man's Houlihan's. Ok food, convenient location, but nothing that makes me want to cry out in joy and amazement.

This place has good food, but the service is absolutely terrible every time. It's gotten worse over the past few months, and I probably won't be coming back. The last time I went there, it took fifteen minutes before a waiter even ackowledged my existence. Orders were not fulfilled correctly, and the service was slow as molasses.

i loved the atmosphere at pj skidoos when i went. it was a tuesday night/wednesday at midnight for my 21st. there was a live dj, a huge dance floor and well, the most important thing--a full bar. although not many people were dancing, if you were there you probably saw me being a "woo girl" and dancing very very unattractively. and heres the kicker. i was probably dancing alone. awesome.. i have to do something to keep those boys at bay i have a boyfriend! the bartenders were great, really attentive and mixed up some fantastic concotions. they have an killer happy hour flyer that somehow made it back to my house just as well as i did. so ill be checking that out momentarily. next week, perhaps.

I love PJ Skidoos! I was a patron at another restaurant/bar until the staff started treating me badly. I came over to Skidoos and love it! The staff is friendly, the Wed, Night bartender makes a great drink! I am a designated driver when we go out and he makes sure my drink is never empty. We have made this a weekly stop! No smoking indoors is allowed so I don't feel like an ashtray when I leave - a big plus. I'd give it 5 stars, but I have never tried the food.

I am visiting from Ohio and really enjoyed PJs! The Halloween party was crazy and the service was still very good. Very good atmosphere and I really liked the camera on the dance floor so you can watch people dance from the bar. I will go back given the chance, perhaps to try the food.......it looked very good.

honestly, i haven't had much of their food, besides appetizers, but i love this place! Almost every sunday my girlfriend and i would go there to watch football and enjoy $2 pints $5 appetizers. Calamari is just average but their potato skins with ranch will definitely help cure a hangover. Waitresses are all nice and the crowd on football sundays is great. Great deal, pretty good food, great sports bar atmosphere. Overall: 5 Food: 4.5 Service: 5 Ambiance: 4.5 Value: 5+

5 stars. Everyday there is a different happy hour special... and they usually have a free taco or nacho bar. Food is GREAT and the outside patio is really nice. The customers are mainly over 40...but if you are young..it's still a great place to get a drink. This is a definite spot to hit if you are looking for a great time and good food.

They make an awesome bloody mary there. Had their crab and shrimp bisque and it was awesome. The bread that came with the meal was undercooked a little, but still ok. The salmon I had was very good. Service was very attentive. I've also had an excellent hamburger here on two occaisions. One Sunday I went and their Burgers, Wings, and beer were all half-priced. Prices are very reasonable in general, and no single entree on the menu exceeds $20. All-in-all, decent, especially for the money.

Owning a service business myself I can appreciate excellent service when I see it. You do not find many places that actually pay attention to detail like skidoos. From the professional greeting upon arrival to simple as clearing your table after you are done and before bringing the next course. Great food great service no wonder they have been around so long. I've only been to Skidoos one time and wasn't overly impressed. A group of 8 of us went there for dinner after a meeting. People in our group ordered included prime rib, london broil, the reuben, filet mignon on an english muffin, fish sandwich, chicken marsala..... Service was good though there weren't many people on a Wed. night. The food was warm but not really hot.

We went on a Friday night for a 7:30PM reservation and got very nervous to see a very full parking lot, but the place is huge! It was a like a labyrinth inside, and each set of tables actually felt very private. There was a very fun looking outdoor area also that we plan to try out next time, especially since it appeared to have built in drinking games - I saw a bean bag toss set up along one of the sidewalk alleys. Basic American food (burgers, sandwiches, steak, crab cakes, etc.) - nothing out of the ordinary or particularly impressive. The music may have a been a touch too loud - they were trying really hard to make some sort of dance floor vibe happen in the front of the restaurant with very little success. However, I must commend the staff, because we started talking and didn't stop until we noticed that we were clearly the last table, but we never felt the pressure from the staff to hurry on our way.

Well it's great to know that you can still go to Fairfax and have a great meal at reasonable prices. We started out with some wings that I've always loved the PJ skidoo's, it is actually where I met my wife 21 years ago. Tonight we sat outside my wife had a pasta dish and I have an incredible prime rib. The waitresses the owner the staff the food was incredible prices are half the places of other places and I still think quality is very strong here hats off Ken and Barbie

I've eaten at PJ Skidoos multiple times for lunch, always eating near the front entrance area just outside the bar. It's always been a nice experience but nothing that makes this place stand out. The service is decent and the food is good. The prices seem a bit overpriced for the quality of food you receive, my one major complaint. The parking situation can be a mess, it does have limited spots out front and people tend to race through the tiny parking area so be mindful when parking or exiting. Also, when pulling out on to 50 (Arlington Blvd), there is a drop if you are crossing the road to head East Bound. My car is not lowered or sits low to the ground and it has bottomed out twice hitting the skid plate.

We usually enjoy PJ Skidoo's--the restaurant side. It's cozy, romantic, pretty. They even have a generous sized outdoor section. They have a wide variety of entrees, beers and wines, desserts. They even have one of my favorite, hard to find desserts Creme Brulee. It is fabulous! We've never had a bad experience. The bar section is fairly loud and I can't speak about side of the establishment. Tonight our dining experience had one exception. That happens. The waiter Mike was nice, helpful and apologetic. Manager Milton's attempt to handle the situation was sorely lacking. We arrived quite early for dinner and took advantage of the "Early Bird Specials." Hubby ordered the Broiled Salmon. He loves Salmon and orders it frequently at many different restaurants. The piece he got was just a little salty/overseasoned but Very Overcooked so much so that it was darkened and crispy on the bottom. The color was more white than pink. The texture was mushy. It didn't flake but was more of a spread. The waiter Mike apologized, ordered a new one and kept us informed as to its impending arrival. The new piece arrived. It was Less Bad. It was seared on one side and overcooked on the opposite side. Ed decided to eat it, chalk it up to a bad experience and not order Salmon at PJ Skidoo's again. Then the Manager Milton came over. No apology. He explained that patrons love their Salmon. He chatted on general topics and about how he doesn't really like Salmon but really likes Tuna and Swordfish. I agree about Tuna and Swordfish and dislike Salmon. Overall he didn't acknowledge, apologize, offer any appeasement like a free dessert and tried to tell Hubby he was wrong about the Salmon! He told Hubby to order the Salmon Rare next time to get it the "unusual" way he likes it. The waiter Mike politely, sincerely apologized. This experience's score: Salmon 0, Waiter Mike 8, Mgr Milton 0. Normally Skidoo's score 8.

Nice hipster bar with a nice selection of drinks and food. The quesadilla and buffalo chicken sandwich were amazing and I'd get them again. Nice atmosphere and great service from macon. I'll be back

I have only been to lunch here, but I will speak to that. I like the vibe in this place. There's brass lighting and wooden ceilings, so definitely a different feel from a lot of the newer places that are popping up. We were seated in the front room, which was filled with light from the many skylights above. The food was good. I had a grilled chicken sandwich that probably could have fed a family of four. Okay, I am exaggerating, but it was pretty big and pretty delicious. Our server was great and overall, we were all pleased with the meal. This place is a solid three--nothing sticks out as too good or too bad!
