Great family owned and run deli. Super friendly. I have always gotten the best service there. Great bagels and the coffee is good. Try the everything bagel - they put the "everything stuff" on both sides of the bagel. This way there isn't a good side and a bad side, their way both sides are equally great! Pay cash if you can - this saves them the 2 to 3 percent the credit card companies charge them for processing the payment. They have changed things up recently and now like if you order by number but they are happy to take your order anyway you provided it really. The only downside I can think of is they get too busy sometimes but it's hard to hold that against a small business. Good for them!

Main Street Bagel is a fun and fast option for breakfast or lunch. My personal favorite is an everything bagel with chive cream cheese. The employees are very friendly and work real fast to get you your order and on your way. The only thing that stinks is that I often forget that they are closed on Mondays which is when I usually want my bagel fix. Their bagels are the closest to a New York Bagel I can find here in Fairfax.

Ruh roh, I'm knocking it down to 3 stars. The food is still very good, but the bagels seem to lose their luster after only one day. They don't hold very well and for the price I paid for them, I honestly was expecting them to hold for more than just 24 hours. That doesn't cut it. The spreads also didn't seem to hold well either. Oh well. I guess I'm still on the hunt for that good bagel place not named Royalicious, though right now Bagel Buddies is certainly the frontrunner!

This place is going downhill ever since their redesign of their signs. So tired of getting day old tasting bagels that are distorted.

Excellent variety, great food. They recently changed things up a little bit, adding a huge menu board so you can see just how many choices there are! It's tough to read that gigantic menu board, because it would take me 15 minutes and I don't want to hold up the line! So I often go with the daily special just to make my (and their) life easier. I do love their lunch specials - a generously sized sandwich with top ingredients, chips and New York style potato salad, all for about $7. They sell Boars Head meats and cheeses and make their own egg salad, chicken salad and potato salad. I love that they have Dr. Brown's sodas -- Black Cherry is my favorite. They also have a good variety of drinks for your thirsty pleasures. Ambiance is not what you are coming here for. They have a scattering of old wood tables and chairs, a flat screen for catching up on the news, and not much else. But who cares when you're enjoying their wonderful food?

Breakfast or Lunch... They got what you need to fill your belly to that euphoric Pooh Bear and honey state of mind. :) They make all their own flavored cream cheeses (which are on display in all their glory) and use boars head meat for their deli sammiches! Quality right here! You have all kinds of choices of breads (bagels, croissants, rye, sourdough, etc.), cheeses, toppings and the like, you can order from their extensive menu or they happily oblige to give you exactly what you want! They also do soups which I want to make sure to try next time I go. I wonder if they'll make grilled cheese? Mmmmm.... The space is also great, large floor area of tables with seating, a fireplace, and not too crowded, just right, very clean. You can tell the owner takes pride in the establishment. I'll be back again and again I'm sure. :)

A small local bagel shop that I am frequenting quite often now. All their homemade cream cheese spreads are low-fat and every aspect of their establishment is to my liking: Great customer service, great food quality, and clean. Two thumbs up!

I was hoping this place would hit my bagel craving, but alas, the bagel I got was a shadow of any genuine NY style bagel. While the bagel is soft on the inside and a bit crusty on the outside, it lacked flavor and a density that typically comes with a bagel. On the flip side, service was great and the coffee was wonderful.

I read great things on Yelp so I decided to check this place out. After eating bagels in New York for several years, I was hoping I would find a place when I come back home to NoVA to get decent bagels. Figuring a local business would be better than a chain like Manhattan Bagel (my usual go-to--acceptable but not great bagels), I checked this place out. I'm a purist, so I believe good bagels do not need to be toasted. This place toasts your bagels automatically unless you specify otherwise (Hmmmm...). I specified otherwise and got my bacon, egg, and cheddar on an untoasted poppy seed bagel. The bagel was awful, almost inedible; I was starving, but I couldn't finish this bagel and threw it out with about 1/3 of it left. It was doughy, practically mushy, and had a yeasty smell. There was no texture, no "tooth," like a NY bagel should have. Just the taste/texture of uncooked dough. I suppose I should have gotten it toasted to make it at least edible, but let me be clear--these are not good or even acceptable bagels! And I'm not sure that toasting could even save this bagel. The service was friendly enough, giving it 2 stars. But at over $5 for my egg sandwich (extra charge for a "deluxe" cheese--since when was cheddar "deluxe"?) featuring microwaved eggs, I almost feel scammed. I will stick to Manhattan Bagel in Vienna and skip the drive to Fairfax. Excited to try Brooklyn Bagels in Arlington soon.

I love breakfast bagel sandwiches with bacon, egg, and cheese. Everywhere I go, which I am up early enough to get breakfast I test out their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches. I went with the everything bagel, because who doesn't like an everything bagel? It has everything! Well, I do not know what it was but the bagel tasted like water... That wasn't pleasant... It ruined the overall awesomeness that is a nicely cooked piece of bacon covered in melted cheese over a fluffy bed of eggs. If this place can not satisfy my breakfast sandwich needs I will not be coming back in the future.

the positive: tasty bagels, large portions the negative: got food poisoning!

  • Lax T.

I just got the Italiano hero (sub) and it changed my life. Fresh roll, perfectly made with generous meats and cheese. Took it to go and when I arrived home I was in euphoria food heaven.

This is a cute little deli that keeps things fresh. It's tucked in the corner of a pretty busy strip mall and can get crowded, but I think they handle it well. The bagels are delish and they make a mean lox sandwich (my absolute favorite breakfast food)! Coffee is a little weak for my taste, but other than that this is a great little place!

    (4)
  • Jose F.

Kinda sad I don't live close anymore because I would come here more often. They have such a variety of sandwiches its like you couldn't get tired for awhile. The service was friendly and efficient. I like that in a good sandwich joint! Oh and talk about the cream cheese selections that they make here....banging!! Even with the options they have you can still customize your sammy sweet!! I got a croissant with egg, cheese, bacon and sausage oh yeah. Can't wait for my next breakfast sandwich or maybe a regular lunch sammich.

Best bagels in Fairfax. Owner is super friendly and service is great. If you're in the mood for a sandwich, this is the place. Located in downtown Fairfax near public library.

I stopped by here before a meeting across the street one morning and I can't believe it's taken me this long to try it! I ordered the vanilla chai latte and egg, cheese and bacon bagel. The chai latte is probably one of the best I've ever had, and the vanilla flavor made it even better. I ordered the garlic bagel (sorry to everyone at the meeting) and it tasted fresh. Nice and crispy bacon on top of my melted cheese...yum! Definitely worth the money, I think it was $8 for the latte and bagel. Will be back soon to try their sandwiches and some delicious cream cheese.

  • Susan B.

Stopped in on my way to work to try there bagels and they were awesome!! I had plain cream cheese with a blueberry bagel! The bagels were very soft and fresh. I will definitely go back.

This place has been on my list for a very long time! Fortunately, Hubs and I had the opportunity to try it out a few weeks back, and I'm so glad that we did! Fresh, house made bagels. Delicious. Add a good breakfast egg, cheese, and bacon on top. Winner, winner, chicken dinner. I got the jalapeno bagel with egg, cheese, and bacon, and it was perfection. In fact, I was so full after that I didn't eat for another 8+ hours. So for about $3, got an amazing bagel sandwich which kept me full the entire day. I'd call that an awesome breakfast! Hubs got the sausage, egg, and cheese on the Everything bagel. Delicious. We were so thrilled with each other's that we shared half of ours. Since Main Street Bagel is walking distance, we will definitely be back to try their house cream cheeses as well. Can't wait!

  • Precious J.

First time here. I ordered the Turkey BLT on a croissant and a strawberry smoothie. Both were very tasty. Everything made here is made in house and fresh. There are breakfast items, lunch items, soups and more. A little on the pricey side though but well worth it. My order was $14.00. The staff are friendly. There is a dinning space but it's rather small and crowded inside. Will definitely eat here again.

I have driven by this local family-owned for years and finally tried it for the first time. Their bagels are perfectly chewy and they are generous with the cream cheese. I am a big fan of properly run deli's. Will be back often

  • Edwuin A.

Edwuin is probably the best employee there. Overall great environment. Meatball & steak and cheese is a must try

This was a nice option the other day when I was wanting (and needing) an afternoon caffeine boost. I was having such a craving for a latte that I actually almost went to the Starbucks, which is located in the same complex. Yes, I know, that wouldn't have actually helped. In fact, after suffering through a Starbucks latte, my craving probably would have only been made worse. Luckily, Main Street Bagel Deli doesn't just offer chewable treats. They also have a variety of sipables. I was really impressed with the quality of the espresso at this little place. From what I gathered from the white board, it's M.E. Swing. I don't believe I'd had this coffee before, although I'd heard of it. It was nutty, only lightly bitter, and didn't leave that terrible lingering (Starbucks) coffee taste in my mouth. Overall, a good cup. Next time I'm at Main Street Bagel Deli, which I'm sure will be soon, I'll make sure to try something off their food menu. The housewhipped cream cheeses, from the looks of them, would be a good choice smeared on top of one of their housemade bagels. I'll bypass Wawa in Stafford and get my morning bagel and latte from Main Street before heading to class or the clinic.

  • Vanessa P.

Lord, the everything bagel is to die for... do yourselves a favor and go get one. (Plus, it's cheaper, and much better than the local competitor who will remain nameless).

    (5)
  • Amanda S.

Let's be honest, if you're used to a better bagel it just doesn't hold up to that standard. However, they do have good cream cheese (homemade), the place is run by a lovely Peruvian family that is very friendly. The service is terrific and fast. They have decent sandwiches, too, as long as you are OK with the bagel itself not living up to a very high standard. But since they're Peruvian, definitely get an espresso -- best I've had in Fairfax!

  • Steve D.

I like this deli because it is clean, family run, friendly and the food is very good. Everybody is smiling at Main St Bagel. What a great vibe. Bagels are excellent as is the meatball sub. Ice tea AND ice coffee. I'm going back.

Stopped in here on a whim since the sushi place next door was closed and didn't realize I was in for such a treat. Even though they were about 15 minutes from closing they didn't rush me when I was taking time looking at the menu and they were helpful about the questions I did have. The ordering process was pretty straightforward, there were just multiple menus around the restaurant, some with prices, some without. The real wait began while waiting for the food to be made and while a little on the long side I was pleasantly surprised with the outcome. My sandwich was piled high with the goodness that was the meats. It was posted to perfection and it melted in mouth. Did I mention the prices were spot on? Because they were. I noticed that the sandwiches were made to order and that the add-ons were all fresh---definitely a plus in my book! I'll definitely be returning when I'm in the area.

Back when I ate starchy carbs, this was my go-to place for bagels. Fresh from the oven they're very, very good-- and the customer service is fabulous.

Always awesome.....been coming here for some time and it's always great. VERY friendly and personable staff and always fast, polite and attentive service. M E Swings, (roasted in Alexandria) provides great brewed coffee, way better than most other places in the area. Recipes are consistent and the food is from quality ingredients which makes a huge difference, unlike some of the so called "NY" Deli's in this area, which any New Yorker would, well...fogetaboudit. Love this place.

  • Erin M.

I love this place! We literally go every weekend. I always get an everything bagel with sausage, egg, and cheese, and a tub of their homemade jalapeño cream cheese to go. They are extremely friendly and sweet! As someone else mentioned, they prefer cash, but do accept credit cards (just be kind and get cash! - it's a family-owned business). I've never been disappointed with this place!

  • Maggie G.

I stopped here last week around 10 am to get a couple bagels to take home. I had never been before but the place looks like they have a ton of bagel options so I was excited to try. I get home, take the bagels out of the bag, and they are rock hard. I don't know if they sold me some day old bagels or what but bagels sold in the morning should never be so hard. I won't be coming back.

A great place for bagels and sandwiches. As a transplanted New Yorker, these are the best bagels I have outside the Empire State. Great family run business. Can be extremely crowded Saturday and Sunday mornings. If they were only open for dinner...............

  • Lindsey J.

I use to love this place. I stopped by on my way to work to grab a bagel last week, hopped in my car, took a bite and found the longest hair imaginable in my sandwich. Not going back anytime soon.

Really, it took me all these years to discover this tiny bagel and sandwich shop????? Where was I hiding! We stopped in on the way to the family friendly Ace Twins. Hardware. To our surprise, this little shop was bustling with families, yuppies and sweet old men waiting for their 5th cup of coffee. The bagels were oh so fresh, with gobs of cream cheese(ok we paid a dollar to add extra). There are tables insides and a few outside. It's located next door to the Coyote Grill. Looks like they are only open for breakfast and lunch. We will be back!

I've lived in New York for nearly twenty years and I come down to visit my in laws during holidays. I've been searching for a great bagelry for a long time. This one is it. Amazing bagels. Great home made cream cheese. Really great coffee. Great find.

  • Melissa F.

What a pleasant surprise - a true NYC style bagel deli in NoVA! The bagels are among the best in the DMV area, with great homemade cream cheeses, eggs, and lox to boot. Very friendly service every time, and nice outdoor seating. Also love that they serve local Swings Coffee.

  • A A.

Two things I didn't like: 1. The dude who made my cream cheese bagel was using his phone, then put it in his pocket and grabbed my bagel. I don't know where your nasty phone has been, or where your nasty hand has been...but dude, don't use it to touch my bagel! 2. The blueberry bagel with berry cream cheese was very "chivy" with an onion-like after taste. It also had a strong fermented flavor. Not very appetizing.

Favorite place to stop in for coffee and a sandwich before class. Always affordable and everyone is nice.

    (5)
  • Jay V.

We've gotten bagel sandwiches from here a few times on the weekend. They've been ok. Not great, but not bad by any stretch. The bagels weren't huge and didn't have the right crunchy exterior to be top notch.

    (3)
  • Barry B.

Love the Lox bagel - I usually get it on a salt bagel! This place is great - friendly, good service, fast, good quality and reasonable prices too. Oh, and they're family owned. I would recommend this place over any other bagel place in Fairfax. Manhattan & Einstein bagel places are not even in the same league as Main Street! My only complaint is that they aren't open 7 days a week!!

    (5)
  • Cletus V.

Bagels are the best in the area! Family business that prefers if you pay with cash but will accept credit card without complaints. They bake and make almost everything they carry. Very nice family who runs it, the father who is the owner/manager is very hard working and really goes the extra mile to help you have a great breakfast!

    (4)
  • Lauren P.

Main Street Bagel is a great family business, the type that you just can't find anymore! I've been coming here for years, and the owner and his family are always cheerful and welcoming- and greet repeat customers by name! The bagels are fantastic, as is the coffee. They have a great selection of espresso drinks as well. The only (slight) downside is that there is sometimes a wait for your bagel at lunchtime... but that's what you get with a small family business that's popular!

    (4)
  • Laura W.

YUM! It's hard, in my mind, to go wrong with a bagel and this place is super top notch. The food we had was delicious but the service is what really struck me. The owner took care of us and was so accommodating, saying, "whatever you want, we can do" and then made absolutely sure he understood exactly what it was we DID want so that it was correct. I had a incredibly messy but absolutely delicious lox, cream cheese and scrambled egg on what has to be the best everything bagel I've ever eaten. (Salty, not to onion-y, just like I like 'em.) My boyfriend wanted a veggie breakfasty thing and wound up getting all the raw veg they had piled on an everything bagel with hummus and cream cheese and an egg. It was monsterous and scrumptious. They've got several coffee options and the owner stopped everything to make a fresh pot when we wanted to refill our cups before we left. It's hard to say which is better, the service or the food, which makes for a five-star place in my book. I only wish I lived in town so I could go here often. There were so many things on the menu I wanted to try and their homemade flavoured cream cheeses looked delicious. Don't be fooled by the strip mall location -- this place is top notch!

    (5)
  • Kerry O.

LOVE their everything bagels! Their cream cheeses are great too, especially the olive and jalapeño ones :) Not a lot of seating, but when it's nice outside, they have tables out there!

  • Sierra B.

Been coming here with many different people for years. The service is great and the people are great. Wonderful coffee, bagels, and sandwiches. I love their family service they give. After many years, he knows the changes in my order! I mean you really can't get better service than that.

  • Rolf T.

I am from the NYC area so you know I am pretty picky about bagels (and Pizza). Main St Deli is one of the few places outside that area that has real bagels. And they have a huge assortment of bagels plus their in-house made cream cheese. There must be thousands of combinations. Their coffee is "way better than typical deli coffee" and I am pretty picky coffee too, and theirs is way above acceptable to me. The sandwiches are very good as well. And they have a decent selection of diet soda to go with your lunch. They are a friendly family-run business and they care about their customers. About the only down side is they are closed one day a week, but that is fair when talking about a local family business.

    (5)
  • Joshua D.

Probably the best locally owned bagel place in the Fairfax/Oakton/Vienna area. Honestly, I still prefer Panera Bread's offerings, though. There's nothing out of the ordinary here, just good people, good bagels and a quaint setting.

  • Raj K.

Went there to check it out as I saw the sign too many times while driving. Ordered breakfast sandwhich on pumpernickle bagle. The quality wasnt that good. Bagles are tasteless and frankly overpriced. Coffee is so so. Finally, place was cold, as if they were not running the heater in the morning! Whats up with that? Service is okay hence 2 stars. I will stick with einstein bagels. Why pay more for inferrior quality food.

    (2)
  • JJ B.

Are you people serious? Bagels lack flavor and sandwich was all bread! Coffee was not bad... Will NOT return!

  • R B.

This is our new go-to bagel place since Manhattan Bagel closed. The staff is friendly and bagels and sides are really fresh and good. The egg and cheese bagels are good, as well as the tuna. Not impressed with the pizza bagel. Flat screen tv is a plus! Closed on Mondays.

  • Jim P.

    Quality FRESH NY style bagels.

  • Nick Y.

It was confusing to walk in the store and scrambled around looking for the menu. Other than that, the food came out quickly and I thought it was pretty good. The vanilla latte is good and I got a onion- bacon, egg, sausage, and cheese bagel, which hit the spot. I would recommend this place to most people if it's local place, but wouldn't go out of the way for it

    (4)
  • Laura G.

I love Main Street Bagels! The staff is very friendly and so helpful to their customers. They have a variety of tasty sandwiches, bagels, and drinks at a great price. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast or lunch.

Love everything about Main Street! Great food, great service and great people! It's hard to go to any other breakfast place in the area. Lunch is also great. My office comes here weekly and no on is ever disappointed. The owner knows me by name and all my favorite orders!

    (5)
  • Ed V.

I'm from Jersey and I was not impressed with the bagels here. They were dense and heavy, I doubt they boil them first. Maybe they're having a bad day but, I woudn't go back. They prefer you pay in cash too. Manhattan bagel is better.

    (1)
  • Bk W.

This place is small But SOOOOO Good! Take a few minutes and go Trust me I drive from DC just to get their bagels.

  • K. S.

Came in right before they were closing. The food prep areas and the food case were dirty. The bagels were just OK.

    (1)
  • Megan B.

Great bagels and great service! A wide variety of choices for breakfast and sandwiches, as well as a wide variety of coffee choices. My only complaint was that I showed up at opening and the trashcan was filled with gross rotten food and fruit flies when I opened it. It smelled really bad and is unacceptable, especially at opening time. Aside from this incident, everything's usually on point. Best bagels I've had in Nova, but not the best in the Greater DC Area or ever.

Before I decided I had to be more frugal to save up for the last chance I'll probably get to go to Europe before I'm yoked to my desk for the next two years finishing my degree, I came here almost every day. They know me by name and call me "Miss Ashley", which is flattering and makes me feel like a lady instead of the ill-tempered, bedraggled mess I usually am at lunchtime on a weekday. I have a "regular" order here: turkey on toasted rye bread with lettuce, mayo, and onion. Usually there'll be a bag of chips in there too if I'm feeling a little texture variety. They execute my order perfectly every time and all the ingredients are fresh. I've tried a few of their other sandwiches as well and though I've now chosen my favourite, the roast beef here is not to be missed. There's none of that strange chewy texture and tendon-y weirdness you get in other roast beef sandwiches. (I'm looking at you, Potbelly.) At Main Street Bagel there's only rich flavor and the moist meaty goodness that comes from a freshly shaved slice of quality beef. They have a mind-boggling variety of chips and drinks and pastries and cream cheeses and sides and meats and breads here. Any sandwich-related thing your heart desires, Main Street Bagel can make it a reality. I will admit that they're a little on the expensive side when you add in chips and a drink but the quality you get in exchange is worth it. Everyone who works there is always friendly and there's never very much of a wait. If you work or play in the Fairfax area and like a good old fashioned deli atmosphere coupled with a great sandwich, look no further than Main St Bagel.

Small, crowded... and wonderful. The best bagel with lox and cream cheese I've had since leaving New England. Highly pleased. My son had an Italian Sandwich that he loved.

Best bagel place in fairfax no matter what anyone else says! I have been going there for years and absolutely love it! They are family owned and have to be some of the nicest people I ever met! The owner knows me by name and is always so kind and welcoming when I come in. They pretty much know my order by heart and I am always 100% satisfied with the qualtiy of their food. Their chicken salad is so delicious and made in house every morning! Their bagels are the old fashion new York Bagel mehtod of kettling and baking and you can definitely tell the difference from the frozen ones you get at other bagel shops. Their service is always fairly quick even on their busy days and I couldn't be happier with my experiences there. I take my friends there all the time and it is a great place for families to go for a bagel breakfast! Love it!

Service? 5 stars. Food? 5 stars. I'd give more stars if I could- this place is incredible. My best friend and I used to live around the corner and went here for bagel and bagels sandwiches on a regular basis. It was definitely a weekend tradition. Homemade cream cheeses, a variety of delicious NY style bagels, including egg bagels, which my Long Island friend says makes this place truly legit. And as far as the deli sandwiches go, the Boar's Head meats and cheeses puts this place over the top. Oh and the staff is incredibly sweet. Always attentive, kind, and remembered me and all their other regular customers. I live in Maryland now and anytime I'm in Virginia for any reason, I feel compelled to stop in for a treat. Oh how I miss this place!!

  • Ryan D.

My wife and I used to live just up the street and went here every weekend. Mabalo (the owner) and his family all work here and they are very friendly. Mabalo also has a heck of a memory and knows most of the regulars by name. He remembered my name even after I moved away and hadn't been there for a year. First rate service. The food is great! I've tried to replicate it at home and can't. Plus they don't even bat an eye at special requests. I always got a sausage egg and cheese and asked for them to put jalapeños on it. Mabalo would even check my sandwich when some one else made it to make sure it had the jalapeños. Excellent, friendly service, great food. Noe they just need a franchise where I live now.

Some where in New York a Shlomo is crying because this place Exists. Microwaved eggs and fishy stale coffee. Does this really pass for food in fairfax. Lose the nostalgia for this place and really rate it. This place is on par with einestien's Bagels. .

During my days at George Mason I would make weekly visits to my beloved Main St Bagel Deli. The owner and his wife are just so sweet and make small talk with my boyfriend and I every time we go. They even have our daily orders memorized and we no longer have to stand in line really. Whenever one of us goes there without the other they make sure to ask where the other one is. A very nice cozy family owned deli in Fairfax City. They have a wide assortment of bagels, breads and even pita for wraps. I love the fact they use Boar's Head deli meats and make their own chicken salad, potato salad, cream cheese, etc. They will pretty much make any type of sandwich you want. I recommend the Ruben, BLT, Turkey melt, Bacon Egg and Cheese bagel, and especially the Nova Lox (which if you aren't familiar with it's a bagel sandwich with cream cheese, smoked salmon, tomato, onion and I opt out of the capers), just to name a few of my faves. Definitely check out this place for lunch if you are in the area. And give the owners a sweet "hello" for me.

Amazing Place!mThe food is good and not too pricy. The service is great! It's a family owned business. They remembered my name and my order only after going there a couple of times Too bad I'm moving soon, I'm really going to miss their bagels

Bagels are very good, coffee is excellent and the staff is very nice. However, when they get busy, things tend to get very very slow. Make sure to keep that in mind if you are ordering and there are people ahead of you waiting for their food. Could things be a little more efficient? Yes. Is this a bad enough problem to stay away? No, unless you are in a big hurry.

Wonderful little shop with great flavor and selection. I was pleasantly surprised when we stopped by this place on our way back from Fair Oaks. It had a somewhat limited weekend selection for bagels, which made it harder for my wife, but they impressed us both with the overall taste and quality of the bagel and wrap. Be sure to customize the sandwiches and wraps because their menu does not clearly line out the additional options, such as hummus, that are available for your use. Service could have been slightly faster considering there were only two customers. Imagine it gets fairly bad during rush hour in the mornings.

These guys have the deli scene of Fairfax practically on lock down. The prices are super reasonable, with ingredients being of great quality and very fresh! I normally get a breakfast sandwich and they never disappoint, OR leave me hungry. I have never seen such a wide variety of prepared/whipped cream cheese, but hey, who knows, maybe there are a shit ton of flavored cream cheese lovers in FFX? I like that they offer some homemade sweets as well, the crumb cake being my fave. The staff is always pretty attentive, quick to take your order, and food is ready in a timely manor. All in all, everything I look for in a decent deli. Big ups for Boars Head! So glad that they use it! One of my all time favorites is a liverwurst, thin sliced, with whole grain mustard and thin cut red onions, and these guys nail it! SO GOOOOOD!

I agree with Kevin G's sentiments about supporting local businesses. Their food is excellent. Through the number of years I've been going, the quality of food has never changed. The selection they have is great as well. As for customer service, everyone has been nice. The location is great as well since there are some stores nearby.

This is a great place and the only reason I can't give it a perfect score is that they didn't have one particular kind of bagel I was hoping for, I even got up early Sunday morning but alas. I got two bakers' dozens from Main Street a couple weeks ago for football watching with friends and the staff was very professional, efficienct, and attentive. There is also a lot of employees available so there is not a wait time at all. There's a nice dining area with tables and chairs and a plasma tv as well. It looked like a lot of people going for jobs and morning walks enjoy stopping in for a bagel and coffee afterward. I will make this place my number-one bagel stop going forward. Positive experience for sure.

Where do I begin? Main Street Bagel Deli is above par as far as deli's area concerned. Family owned, fresh products and great service, enough said as far as I'm concerned. I love any place that has outstanding customer service, especially in the food industry. For instance, sometimes I want red peppers instead of the regular tomatoes. When I make similar requests at other beli's (Einstein Bagels for one) I have received not only rude responses but faced additional charges. Main Street Bagel is open to customizing any order and does so with a smile. Not only are they friendly, but they have fresh products including daily made bagels, avocados, sprouts and an amazing variety of cream cheeses and hummus. Another great aspect, breakfast ALL day. There are several peaks throughout the day, but their service or quality never falters. In fact, if they are busy, you can take a seat and they will bring your order to you. And unlike other deli's they do NOT skimp on their sandwiches. Their prices are great and the owner makes an amazing mochaccino with ghiradelli chocolate. I have brought many of my interns, family members and friends here and they have all become loyal and regular visitors. Visit regularly and they will welcome you by name and remember your normal order.

Nice not to find a chain bagel place in a strip mall! This one also has nice pastries, and coffee. The vibe is also pleasant, when I visited on a Saturday, lots of families and prompt, though not express, service.

The bagels rival NYC bagels so they are quality and they have a pretty wide variety of flavors! They are chewy on the inside and crusty on the outside, yum! Coffee selection is good and they make all the cafe coffee drinks, had drip coffee and it was good. Reasonably priced, tasty bagels, decent coffee but service is extremely slow. We ate there on an early Saturday morning and there were no other customers, but our toasted bagels with cream cheese took an extremely long time. Service might be faster during the week, but worth the wait for the quality. Their lunch selections looked great So don't plan on grabbing something to go! Plan on sitting and reading the paper.

I absolutely love this place! We pick it up for office lunches a couple times a month and every time it's always so wonderful. Last week I actually ate at the restaurant itself and was so pleased with everything. The gentleman who helped us was so friendly and yet again made us delicious sandwiches. There are so many options but I just tend to stick to what I love, egg salad!

I've been there twice and had the ham egg and cheese bagel. The staff really care about their customers and the owner makes time for friendly conversation. Even though there is always a line, they get the food out quickly. I will be sure to go back to this place for breakfast often.

First, I have to give this place bonus points for having sun-dried tomato bagels. How can something so delicious be so hard to find? In any case, they are one of the very few places that make my favorite bagel, but I have to say I prefer Einstein's, which have a more complex flavor and some herbal notes. The ones here are a bit heavy on the onion. Still, like I said, points just for having them. Also, their garlic bagels have lots of garlic, so more points for that.

Originally hailing from NY, although upstate of the city, bagels are kind of a big deal to me, and most of the bagels I've known since moving to Fairfax have been of the mushy, bland sort. Definitely not the case here; I was really impressed with their selection of bagels and specialty cream cheeses! Just like home. If you're looking for a nice, fresh, soft on the inside, crisp on the outside bagel, this is the right place. It's especially a gem (to me at least), because they serve breakfast bagels all day, which were generous and reasonably priced. There's a nice seating area with a TV and free WiFi if you need a place to sit and work for a while, but they limit their WiFi use to an hour at a time. Anyhow, this was a wonderful find, and I plan on making this my Sunday afternoon lunch place, for sure!

Awesome neighborhood bagel place. I am always greeted with a smile and a positive attitude. The bagels are excellent as are the sandwiches. They serve M.E. Swings coffee too. Owned and operated by the hardest working family in Fairfax. I love spending my money here!

Love this place!! Great bagel sandwiches, coffee and other treats for a low low price. The couple that runs this place is so kind and friendly! Ive been coming here for 8 yrs! I love a toasted jalapeño bagel with ham, egg and whipped cream cheese! Bring a book or newspaper and enjoy the warm homey atmosphere. :)

SUPPORT LOCAL FAMILY BUSINESSES! Especially the really good ones! And the Main Street Bagel Deli definitely qualifies! I've been going to this place for about 4 years now and I still love it as much today as I did on my very first visit! If you want a damn good sandwich, some fantastic homemade bagels, or good deli salads, meats, or cheeses, this is the place to go! I've been going for about 4 years but I only get a chance to stop by about once a month, if that. There is one particular sandwich that I usually order, and despite the huge number of loyal customers they have and my relatively rare visits, they always remember the sandwich I like to get and ask me if I want "the usual." If you pay by credit card they will learn your name and address you by name too. Little, simple gestures like that go a long way. The bagels are great and they have an excellent variety. The everything bagels are dangerously good. The meats and cheeses are all top quality Boar's Head brand. You can build your own sandwich however you want, but they also have a selection of suggested sandwiches for you to order. The one I usually get consists of black forest ham, dill havarti cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and pesto mayo. It's delicious and they don't skimp on the ham! I also get it as a breakfast sandwich which is the same thing but instead of lettuce/tomato/onion it has a poached egg. It costs the same but they give you less ham if you get it as a breakfast sandwich with the egg, which I think is fair and understandable. The other sandwich I like to get is the smoked salmon with capers, cream cheese, and onion. They give you a really healthy portion of smoked salmon which I love since most places just give you a pathetic, measly little sliver of salmon (*cough* Au Bon Pain *cough*). Their smoked salmon is also very fresh and high quality. They have a wide variety of flavors of tasty kettle-cooked potato chips too that go great with a sandwich. They also offer several coffee/espresso options like lattes, blended frozen coffee drinks, iced coffee, etc. as well as fruit smoothies. The atmosphere is very basic - it's a family-owned deli, after all. There's some seating inside, but if the weather is nice there is also outdoor seating available too. Also I think they close at around 5pm. If you've never been here, stop in for a visit. You'll be back, trust me.

I have yet to order a sandwich here but my family has been buying bagels for many years. I went in earlier this week to pick up a dozen and they are always great, and bigger than the competition. My dad, a NY bagel snob, only buys here. He'll pick up an Einstein bagel if he feels like complaining about it. Main Street gets it right every time. My only issue was a lack of variety -- 11am on a Thursday seems like an odd time to be out of blueberry or poppy seed, but I'll be back.

FINALLY! A place in Northern VA that knows how to make a good bagel. Came in one day for lunch, based on the high ratings, and was really pleased. Fast service, delicious lunch--what more needs to be said? I look forward to coming here in the future.

Perfect for a quick, tasty sandwich prepared exactly the way you like it when you're in the neighbood and need a quick lunch. I've become accustomed to a sandwich being a slice of turkey between slabs of bread. My sandwich was turkey piled high. Very good. Low prices, good food, easy parking...I'm in!

The bagels are always fresh and warm. I like this place...strictly business. You come in, you order, you receive, you pay, and you're out ...no b.s. in between; only smiles (which is great and goes a long way). I don't know what it is...maybe I'm getting unlucky every time, but I find their coffee...little "stale"; not too great. And Im usually one of the first customers there, so I'm not drinking the old stuff.

Great food! I love the bagels (they have blueberry--my fave) and are always friendly. The food comes out quickly and they have a great menu if you are into the NY style deli like I am. Plus, they have black & whites, scones, cookies and a lot more. What else could a man need? I think they actually have strawberry cream cheese, for what that's worth. Well run, organized and yummy.

I mentioned in a previous review that Lost Dog was "the best sandwich place in DC, period." Well, this place is quickly becoming #2. They have a wide selection of very good bagels that I'm pretty sure they make on site and their deli meats are superb. I've had everything from breakfast bagels to lunch meat -- all were excellent, particularly the Harvarti, Ham, Pesto Mayo bagel sandwich. I wasn't a big fan of the wedding soup, but that seems like an aberration on an otherwise large and yummy menu. Their prices are in line with the fare (and a bit cheaper than Panera, just up the street). And (this one is a biggy in the DC area) customer service is actually decent. As opposed countless other "customer service" experiences I've had in DC, the family running it doesn't view exchanging goods for cash as a chore, but rather something they should be doing! Further, you can also always find parking (another biggy for me). There is plenty of seating and a set of outside tables. The atmosphere is typical deli-ish, but the place is always clean. When I'm hunting for a quick place to grab a sandwich in the City of Fairfax this place is always on top of my list.

I discovered Main Street Bagel Deli while running errands in Old Town Fairfax on Friday: Totally non-descript looking place in a small strip mall next to the TJ Maxx. This place is a hidden gem! Seriously one of the best deli sandwiches I've ever had. All the ingredients were fresh and the menu offered tons of different options (including vegetarian) along with daily specials. Lots of tables outside to enjoy fresh air. Prices are reasonable and the staff is courteous & efficient. I'll definitely be going back!

As a Long Islander by birth, I know bagels. Main St. Bagels are real bagels!! Not rolls with holes like at Einstein. Great place overall. Owners are very friendly and its a good place to run into local Fairfax politicians; many hold court there over a bagel and coffee. All the cream cheeses are homemade and excellent, especially the lox cream cheese with visible chunks of lox and scallions mixed in.

yeah, im definitely a fan. i mean how could you not be? fresh bagels made daily and a wide assortment of beverages you cant find everywhere. any place that has diet dr. browns is okay by me. add honest tea to the list and youre even awesomer. prices are normal for a bagel and creamcheese, and their breakfast sandwiches are the bomb. did i just say the bomb? ok i did. they stock boars head. the turkey is sodium free, thick and delicious. love the deli mustard and hummus as well.

I actually quite like this place - decent bagels and deli meats, nice folks running the place. The only downside to me is that anything hot - knishes, hot meat sandwiches, etc. - is microwaved, which pretty much destroys it. The knishes in particular are reduced to starchy mush. The coffee can also vary, depending on how freshly made it is. In general, though, fine for a Sunday morning.

really good bagels here. wide assortment of bagels and deli meats to pick from, and a fridge full of frosty-cold drinks. it gets rather busy in the morning, which is a good indicator that they make some pretty good stuff, and they do. there isn't much more to say about this establishment without being long-winded. if you like bagel sandwiches, you should go here.

Got the Roast beef and brie special on a toasted sesame bagel so I could get a taste of their bagels and deli meats at one time. Boar's Head beef was fresh and red/pink (that's how it should be) . Sandwich flavors tasted very good and the bagel one of the better I've had in DC area. Place was clean and they have wifi (1hour limit). Will be back for more.

Good family run deli, I often see the owner, his wife, and kids completing orders and making bagels. You can not only get bagel sandwiches, but regular sandwiches as well. The best part about Main St. Bagel Deli: Boars Head Deli meats - Demand the Brand :) Being a New York transplant its nice to find a place that serves quality deli meats on sandwiches. The bagels are good too, though, not new york bagels. If you are ever in that area and need a quick sandwich that's tasty, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent bagels, the closest to NYC bagels I've found in VA. Everything else is . . . not a bagel. The black and white cookies were good too.

I've developed quite the soft spot for this little neighborhood deli...it's right off campus and completely delicious! A bit pricey for lunch, but I'll shell out the money for a bagel any morning. Their coffee is good, too! It seemed a little chaotic the first time I went, but there's comfort in the chaos - they serve lots of regulars, and they are efficient and friendly to everyone who walks in. I work at Starbucks, and am quite loyal there, but I'd rather stop next door at this deli any morning.

Decent place, but they required a minimum purchase for Visa cards, which isn't allowed ( usa.visa.com/about_visa/… ). Hopefully they'll fix their ways.

Great bagels, Boars Head meats (make great sandwiches). Deli was started by a transplanted New Yorker Barbara and JT Mchale. They retired and sold to an employee who has continued the traditions they started. I love the sandwiches (especially liverwurst) and coffee. It is a local restaurant, not a chain so the food and the atmosphere is genuine.

This is a true NY style deli, not the bland derivative you get at Einstein Bros and their ilk. Great bagels, any topping you can think of, lots of side "salads" (you know, the kind filled with macaroni and potatoes and mayonnaise and other such healthy salad items) and reasonably priced coffee from big thermoses.

    (5)
  • Zach S.

I said I would go back and try main st bagel again and I did. Honestly, not any better. The chicken salad was bland and under seasoned and the everything bagel was dry again. Definitely not going back anymore.

This is one of the best delis in the area. I am very picky about my delis and bagels, and this place delivers! Their bagels are fresh and I think better than Einstein or Chesapeake bagel. They use Boar's head meats which are top notch. We always order their lox bagel sandwich with lox, cream cheese, red onions, capers lettuce and tomato. The sandwich is a bit pricey at $7, as most lox sandwiches are, but it is incredible. I have ordered the same sandwich combination at other delis only to be disappointed. Although I no longer live close enough to make a trip every day, I stop by whenever I'm in the area. Like other reviewers said, they do not skimp on quality or the quantity of fillings in their sandwiches. The staff is extra friendly. When paying by credit card they will learn you name and call your order out by name when it is ready. I wish there were more delis like Main Street.
