5 Stars on the food, flavors, freshness, and satisfying portion sizes. This is the real deal. They can COOK! I ordered a large Brown Stew Chicken, rice and peas, and a small Jerk Chicken with rice and peas, and 2 coco breads to go. Delish. Piping hot. The Brown Stew was so flavorful, well seasoned with a hint of ginger and perhaps soy sauce undertones in the flavor, nice thick brown gravy to cover the rice and peas. Also came with delicatley steamed cabbage, and 2 slices of fried plantain. Yummy. I forgot to take a picture! I ate half for lunch, will eat other half for dinner. The small Jerk Chicken I haven't really eaten, but I took a a small bite and it's the perfect balance of well seasoned chicken with some spice , but not too much heat. I like the way they cut the meat. The meat is on the bone, but they chop it in a way that makes it easy to eat it off the bone, in smaller pieces which is easier to hold. Unique Caribbean style. Coco bread (sp?) was warm, semi sweet, and chewy. This is primarily a carryout spot so don't expect a large sit down restaurant. There is one small table and a few chairs, so you wait until your order is called up. Once your order arrives, the gentleman shows you what you ordered to make sure its the way you want it. I really like that. Most carry-outs I've been to, they package everything up and you have to check it yourself, or you forget to check it and once you get home, you wish you had! Check the sign on the wall next to cash register which lists the daily specials. If you don't know what to get, order a few small portions and have your own Caribbean tasting. You will be so happy you did! Can't wait to go back.

Three and a half stars. The entrance is a door around the corner leading into the basement behind the Mediterranean bistro. Presumably they share the parking lot, but you're better off finding a spot in a nearby lot or along the streets. Friendly service was happy to point out two nearby parks where I could eat my meal in nice weather. One communal table inside in front of a TV, within sight of the kitchen. A small order is appropriate for a conservative appetite or broad curiosity, I'd happily go large next time since they're so affordable. Curry is mild, goat is as tender as can be expected. Oxtails are sliced thin and yields to plastic fork pressure. Plaintains were cooked through, not too dry. Tomatoes were fresh even if they weren't super ripe, and the cabbage is nothing to write home about. Loved the rice and beans even more with saucing soaked in. Their hours are sadly quite short, but given the chance, I'd happily stop by again to try a beef patty, jerk chicken, and some of their daily specials.

We recently stopped by it was very hard to find been to a lot of Jamaican places before the food was a five it was just okay Don't like the grungy atmosphere even know that can be okay also if the food would override portions are very small

Be careful when you go searching for this place, you can miss it! This place is hidden in downtown Fairfax and unless you have your GPS to guide you could miss the door! Once we found the spot, we went inside and placed an order for curry chicken, jerk chicken and oxtails (yum). I would suggest you call ahead--there is not much seating room in here and it can get pretty busy. I wish the portions were a little bigger, but the food was really good! The jerk chicken was really SPICEY but hey that's Caribbean food! But each item was well worth the drive and price. I would def. suggest this place if you are in the mood for Jamaican and located in Northern VA.

I really enjoyed this place last time I was here with my husband and wanted to come back for the authentic experience and delicious food. I drove all the way from Crystal City, in p.m. traffic in my military uniform, with a friend because I wanted to put her on to some top notch, home style cuisine. It was suppose to be a familiar place, a place where I could take my uniform jacket off and just chill. However I was wrong and was greeted by this heavy dark skinned dude who was literally rude and seemed like he was tired, his feet and body hurt and ready to go home. As we are making our order he reminds us that the establishment was closing several times in an effort to get us to pay and hurry us out. We stayed anyway because we wanted to eat right away. He served our food with no love what so ever, something I'm not use to from a West Indian establishment. The television was on blast, the food was salty, the rice and beans tasted burnt, the white meat chicken was tough, it was was cold and hot on edges like it was microwaved and dude was still reminding us the restaurant was closing. What a shame! I would have wished he didn't serve us at all and closed the building early than to charge us for that experience. So disappointed but I'm sure I'll find another spot.

So a friend of mine suggested we go and try some jerk chicken~ so we found this little gem~ the interior is just a bench and a table or was it 2 .. It's a hole in the wall nothing to talk about and idk how they work with no a/c but regardless we picked up our dinner and took it home to eat for it was to hot the sit in and eat~ We ordered jerk chicken with white rice curry chicken with rice and brown stew chicken with white rice ~~ and coco bread~ the stewed chicken and the curry were my faves I didn't really care for the jerk chicken ~ the bread was good it kind of tasted like the Hawaiian bread they sell at the grocery store.. But it was good! The chicken was super tender and just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth~ everything was full flavored and delish! I will def be a return customer!!! I can't wait to go try the ox tail and the beef patties!! Nyom nyom!

I went to Caribbean Corner on March 18,15 for lunch. I was disappointed in the quality of food. I order 1 Oxtail platter. My oxtails was chewy and hard. It tasted -1day old. The rice had very few beans and toss with too much oil in it. The plantains were crisp or I was given plantain chips from a bag. The decor of the place was very dirty .

Love this spot.. its conveniently down the street from me. Portion sizes are good for the price and taste is always on point. All the people there are friendly and have good customer service Its mainly a takeout spot but definitely authentic jamacian food hidden in a back corner of fairfax.

Im all for the suspect looking places- i believe they always have the best food, but hole in the wall is an understatement. This place is tiny and the inside is practically the whole kitchen with 2 small tables and some chairs. Don't come here with a group expecting to sit down, don't come here with one person because the space is too small to be comfortable. Parking was bad- this is a place you walk to and get to-go. My mom and i ordered the goat curry plate, which came with plantains and rice and peas. The plantains were a joke not thick fried, moist, and brown but yellow, flat, hard and dry. The curry was just ok taste wise and It had a lot of bony pieces. More bone than meat and the bones were small and easy to swallow. The beef patties were good- nothing special i suspect they are ordered from some place else and not homemade. The prices were ok i suppose for the portions. This area doesn't have much Jamaican food but honestly i would not come here again. NOVA Jamaican cant touch MD and DC restaurants unfortunately so if your craving Jamaican or Caribbean id go venture there.

Where to begin? Prices are cheap, atmosphere is perfect for pick up only not dine in and the food left much to be desired. I ordered the jerk chicken, white rice, plantains and steamed cabbage (both comes with meal) and I just had to try the beef patties. Okay, jerk chicken was salty and nearly burnt. The gravy tasted more like stew gravy (funny because the special of the day was ox stew hmmmm). Beef patties were greasy and tasteless may have sat in the warmer all day or overnight maybe. The steamed cabbage was good but how can one mess that up and the plantains was exactly how another yelper described it "orange and tough." As this was my first visit I highly doubt I will be returning; however when I arrived the line of people following behind grew rapidly.

Wow!! This place was exactly what I have been looking for, for the past almost 3 years. It's authentic! Legit! I am from NYC and have had good carribean food and this is it. It's def a hole in the wall kind of place (don't those have the best food). Feels like you were invited over for dinner and got a home cooked meal. The flavor and spices are perfect. Nothing watered down or unseasoned well. I had the Jamaican curry chicken with beans and rice, and came with 3 fried plantains and cabbage. I ate too much. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. The seating is limited and so is parking. I suggest not coming with a large party to dine in. Order to go and enjoy it at home. I will most definitely be back to try the curry goat, jerk chicken and ox tails!! :)

  • Kristin A.

There used to be a time where you'd have to drive all the way out to MD. for good Jamaican food. I am sooo happy that my good friends at Yelp steered me into this direction. I simply placed my order over the phone and went in to pick it up. Now I will say that the parking is a hot mess but if you're lucky, you can park in the lot behind the restaurant (they're are towing signs). I ended up getting a large and a small jerk chicken dinner. The food was amazing although I wish I had more peas in my rice n peas lol. I would definitely go back since the price is right and the service was fast and friendly.

So, its been said that the spot is a hole in the wall. That it truly is. However, it just keeps up the authenticity to me. As a Trinidadian woman, I know that the best roti shops and curry houses look a lot like this or offer even less ambiance. The importance is in the flavor of the food. However, before I get to food, let me talk about the staff. They have some first generation American guys at the register. They are very warm and sweet. As a Trini woman, I requested some Peppah Sauce. They brought me some sliced peppers floating in some sort of solution. I refused it and began teasing them about bringing some real peppah for them to use. The chef came out from the back for some conversation and lighthearted banter. It reminded me so much of home. Now for the important part: I ordered the Curried Goat dinner. The Goat was succulent but contained too many small bones for unbridled chewing but the flavor was delicious. The rice and peas was very mushy. I would suggest to the cook that he invest in parboiled rice in the future although this would drive up the cost. The steamed cabbage and carrots was perfection. I will definitely take the ride back out to this establishment when I am longing for a taste of home. Besides, I need to take them a bottle of REAL peppah sauce!

Tasty food, I had the Jerk Chicken has a lot of flavor. Meat is on the bone, so obviously not the leanest but worth visiting once in a while. Also the small portion seems initially too little, actually it's quite densely packed and fills me up just right.

Stopped by this place twice in the past month. Both times they were closed during regular hours. Not sure how the food tastes like but I guess I am just reviewing there business strategy.

The food is great. The service is great. Best caribbean food I had since I've been here. Yes it is a hole in the wall but that's what I'm used too.

My husband and I are regular customer of this place. Food is amazingly delicious! Authentic Jamaican style food. I tried the Jamaican jerk chicken and beef patty. Everything was on point. Price is great! Recommand to all my family and friends.

My wife and I were craving some west Indian food, and this was one the best decisions we made since we left NY. If want some real ox tails peas & rice, and some Curry Goat. This is your spot!

Finding Caribbean Corner after a trip to Jamaica was one of the greatest moments of my life. This place is hidden in the back of an alley in Old Town Fairfax, parking can be a predicament, but sooo worth it! I've never had a bad experience here. The staff is friendly and helpful. The food is authentic (as much as a non-Jamaican can attest to) and extremely delicious! I always order the Curry Goat, but have tasted the Jerk Chicken, Brown Stew Chicken and Ox Tail; all top notch! Most of the food comes with rice & peace, slaw and a couple of plantains. They also have patties, which I can never say no to when I go to the counter to pay. There's a cooler with a large selection of Jamaican drinks including Ting as well. The restaurant is small and can seem intimidating, especially the first time you walk in, but I've always felt welcome whenever I visit. I can't recommend this place enough!! I'm sooo happy to have this place in the area. I live in Alexandria and would gladly drive out there any time I'm craving Jamaican food. Seriously, try the Curry Goat. Don't be scared.

  • Kira D.

Food was okay(being generous by saying okay) but quite frankly, after I ordered and paid I wanted to leave without food. The ordering/sitting area looks dirty so I can only imagine the state of the kitchen. I ate nervously bc all the reviews raved about the food. I think maybe the other reviewers thought it was amazing because there are no other Jamaican options in northern Virginia... too bad. Coming from a Jamaican family, I so wanted this to be good.

This is an amazing hole in the wall joint. It sits nestled behind the main street front and near a dumpster. Just follow your nose and you can't miss it. Once you go down a few steps, you'll be transported to Jamaica with the music and decor. There's free parking across the street from it also. I ordered the Jerk Chicken, and it was amazing. I highly recommend it. It was DELICIOUS, and the perfect level of spiciness to warm up the cold weather. The chicken was tender, and the rice and beans complemented the sauce very well. If you look on the menu, they serve Ox Tail and Jamaica's national dish...Ackee and Salted (Cod) Fish. They also have an interesting selection of Jamaican juice and sodas! I'm definitely coming back again for more!

This eatery leaves something to be imagined: its dingy, dusty, and in need of an old fashioned scrub down but in the words of my favorite Jamaican, "Sweet Thrilla from Manila!" This place is dishing up some good eats. I stopped by last night with my siblings and we each got a small order of their main menu offerings to share -- curry goat, curry chicken, brown stew chicken, jerk chicken, and ox tail. The jerk chicken was wonderfully spicy and filled my mouth with a taste of the island. The brown stew chicken and curry chicken were tender and the perfect meal for a crisp, fall day. The curry goat, was not gamey at all and was quickly devoured by even the pickiest of eaters at the table. The only problem I had was with the oxtail. I've been eating ox tail since I was a wee baby and this was NOT ox tail. The restaurant skimped out and used what I am guessing is a neck bone. Delicious yes, but I definitely felt a little cheated at the end of the day. But I don't feel cheated enough to not come back another day. I'll be back!

Amazing food, awesome genuine service, and a dining area that needs an update. Caribbean corner makes great jerk chicken and lamb curry. Best of all is their brown chicken stew. Take out your food and enjoy!

Good honest food. The prices are great. Brown Stew Chicken is a hit. Make sure you get some of the pepper sauce on your food. Its a hole in the wall, so don't expect any kind of ambiance if you eat inside, but the food is legit. SUPPORT LOCAL BUSINESS.

Finally got around to trying out this place. It's a little bit hard to find. If you know where sisters Thai restaurant is. It is on the left side of the building. There's plenty of free parking nearby. The guy was friendly and informative. I tried to jerk chicken.. The large portion is 8.99 and enough to eat over two meals. Its very spicy but so good that you can't stop eating it. Don't forget to get something to drink so your mouth won't be on fire. The jerk chicken comes with cabbage, rice and beans, and fried plantains. Definitely will be back to try the other things.

Went here for lunch today with a coworker. Parking Is kinda tricky but if you don't mind walking there is tons of places to park in old town. I had the goat curry and ox tail Seriously delish I will totally be coming back :)

I'm so thankful I was told about this spot. My BF was born in Jamaica so he knows and always has a craving for authentic food from home. I'd been here several times before visiting Jamaica for the 1st time one month ago. My BF says that this is the most authentic he's tastes since leaving Jamaica. I can't tell you about the authenticity, but I can tell you we LOVE everything on the menu. His favorite is the jerk chicken. He goes on and on about how perfect the chicken is cooked, how the spice is just right. Not one single complaint from him. My fav is the stew chicken, but the curry chicken, oxtails, and beef patties are scrumptious also. We both plan on trying the fish next, and I'm sure it won't disappoint.

Love this hidden gem! A true hole in the wall that does not disappoint. Parking is limited and we usually just park in the larger parking lot behind the actual parking lot. Got the oxtail, curry chicken and jerk chicken with rice and stewed cabbage. I love love love me some oxtail. The tender gelatinous meat just makes my mouth water. The oxtail comes with a large chunk of bone in the middle however since the meat is so tender it just falls off. The rice is soaked in the oxtail sauce which is just perfect. TIP: You can get combo platters. Ask for half and half if you want to try multiple things. We tried curry chicken which was excellent! The yellow curry soaked in rice paired with the large chunks of simmered chicken was fantastic. Highly recommended. The jerk chicken IMHO was just OK (a little dry).

This place has the best Jamaican food in the DMV area. The food reminds me of what I got when visiting Jamaica. The people here are super friendly and I even got a complimentary beef patty, YUM!

If I could give this business a negative 5 I would. This review is not for food quality...I never got the chance to eat there. Long story short. I went to this place well over an hour before their posted closing. The door was locked although the sign said open. I saw people inside. I called to inquire about them being open...several times. i stood outside for a few minutes and then...someone inside turned the lights out. OMG...who does that? Never, ever would I spend my money at a hole like this, no matter how good the food is supposed to be. Beware the unprofessional nature of this place...beware! I'm telling everyone!

Caribbean Corner is a no-frills type of place. It's a real hole-in-the-wall. The entrance is on the side of the building, with a sign over it. You go down the steps of stairs into the restaurant. Parking is a little strange around the actual place, but if you drive further down, there's a free square-shaped lot next to the parking garage. Not the best jerk chicken I've had, but not bad for the price and the amount of food they give you. They really do pack it in the small container and throw in some plantains, so that's nice. The food took a while to come out, so we were awkwardly waiting there for 20-25 minutes. I didn't sit there to dine, but I don't recommend it only because it's a little dingy and run-down.

I was looking for something new to try near my office and wow what a gem. I pass "the Corner" everyday on my way to and from work but have never thought to stop in but I am so glad that I did today. The quality and taste of the food more than makes up for the restaurant's less than inviting exterior. This is a super small restaurant. The seating is very limited and it looks like most people use them for carryout. The staff (cashier and food server-- same guy) was friendly and helpful. He guided me through the choices and helped me to make my selections. I had the jerk chicken, coco bread and rice and peas. All were delicious. The chicken was tender and very flavorful. It was fall off the bone moist. Notably, jerk chicken is by its nature spicy and this chicken was a perfect blend, it was spicy but not so much so to make it inedible. The fried plaintains were delicious and I highly recommend the coco bread. I will relay the server's words to me when I was making my selections, "It's all Good" and I truly believe that it is. I can't wait to come back again to try some of their other specialities.

Caribbean food! The interior is very plain a bit sketch looking but the people are really nice. Nit alot of tables or places to sit, so perfect for a quick carry out. I probably waited 5-10 minutes tops? The food is great and seems pretty legit. The price is good and the portion is definitely satisfactory! I got the Jamaican Pork (S) and was definitely full. They pack the carry out box so you definetly get a bang for your buck. The food was so good! They do not skimp out of the flavor or spices. The pork was cooked to perfection and the cabbage was cooked perfectly (not overdone or raw). The rice with beans good as well. The amount of rice and the meat is a pretty good balance I would say. It was a bit hard to find but would definitely come back when in the area. I was craving Caribbean food for some time and this hit the spot! Definitely one of the hole in the wall places that you need too look for but when you find it, it's like finding treasure!

Oh. My. Word. This place. This place is so good. It's a tiny hole in the wall in the middle of Old Town Fairfax but it has quite the following! Jerk chicken, brown stew chicken, curried goat, oxtails, jerk pork, beef patty, you really can't go wrong. Coco bread is dense and fantastic for soaking up every little morsel.

Absolutely worth my one mile walk in the pouring rain and thunder. The jerk chicken is to die for -- moist, meaty, fall off the bone.... just the right amount of spice caresses the skin and mingles with the meat. The peas and rice (Really red beans and rice) is also just the right amount of spice... and the fried plantains -- oh, the fried plantains!!! Check this place out -- walk, run, drive, bike, who cares.. just get here!!!

When I started my job, my coworkers told me about their love for Caribbean Corner. I thought they were crazy to be so obsessed about a hole in the wall restaurant, but it wasn't long before I became hooked, too. Caribbean Corner is literally a hole in the wall. Located at the back of a building (by the tiniest parking lot ever) you walk down a few steps and bam! There is the cashier. I think there is a little sitting area but it's tiny. This is the type of place where it is best to get carry out. My coworkers highly recommended the brown stew chicken. I was in heaven. The chicken falls right off the bone and is perfectly seasoned. The extra juices are soaked up by the rice. This is worth the food coma. Sometimes if you call (yes, call your orders in advance!) it might seem like the staff is rude but they're really not. They are always so friendly when we pick up our food and they're totally cool with us paying separately (yes I've shown up with 5 different forms of payment before). The small size is more than enough food and they'll even let you get two halves of an order to make one. All meals come with "rice and peas" and "veggies." I'm not personally a fan of cabbage (though I hear when it's simmered in the meat sauce it's heavenly) so I usually ask for all rice and peas, which is really rice and about 5 beans. You also get 2-3 fried plantains. If you like spicy food, try the jerk pork on Fridays!

The location and hours of this restaurant are a nightmare. It seems like one has to really plan ahead to get here. The jerk chicken was just OK, had no authentic feel to it. The pricing was OK. For true, authentic jerk lovers, I would recommend Just Jerk in Lanham, MD.

  • Maria G.

I looooove me some Jamaican food!!!! It's nothing fancy and great carry out spot. Just make sure to call in your order beforehand so you don't have to wait. The prices are good. Jerk chicken and pretty much everything else had the perrrrrrfect amount of spice. The oxtail stew was superb. Try it... Just do it.... You won't be disappointed.

  • Quyen N.

Delicious and authentic Jamaican food! We had the goat curry, ox tail and jerk chicken. Each one was tender, flavorful and the meat fell off the bone. My taste buds were back in Jamaica! The people there are super friendly! I love this hole in the wall! Definitely worth the visit and a taste!!!

First & foremost: Calling this place a hole in the wall would be QUITE generous. In my haste to get my first bite from CC, I nearly blew past the small alleyway on the right leading into the restaurant off University Dr. so... location is tricky to say the least. (Sidenote: Unless you're able to back out onto the main road, you WILL pull an Austin Powers trying to turn around and exit their 4-car parking lot.) That said, this was a tremendous meal. Managed to sneak in with the wife on President's Day - in fact, only one other diner in there at the time so we were able to put in our carryout order w/o a hitch. Not sure how busy they get during a regular weekday. Full disclosure: The plan called for us to try the Jerk Chicken but long story short... we ended up with an order of Curry Chicken instead (slow cooked chicken in a yellow curry sauce, on a bed of white rice). Definitely our fault for the mixup. In any event, we grabbed a large order of the oxtail for good measure (also slow cooked, in a brown sauce over rice and beans). Both entrees were fantastic. Meat was off-the-bone tender in both dishes, most especially the oxtail. I'm a bit of a salt hound so if they were heavy with the salt, I didn't notice. Others might but there is a side of fried plantains included to help balance all the flavors out. Now that we got the ordering snafus out of the way, we'll surely be back. Definitely for the jerk chicken, maybe even the curry goat. But trust we'll take a smaller car.

Great little spot in downtown Fairfax. Dining area leaves something to be desired (mainly a wet rag to clean the tables once in a while), and cuts of chicken are not always consistent (sometimes you end up with more bone than meat), but overall the food is good and cheap. Keep in mind there is very little parking. Across the street there is a public lot, but that can fill up as well. Entrance is not on the street, but tucked away. It'll take you 10 minutes to find it your first time.

This venue is a hole-in-a-wall. No other way to describe it. It's actually very hard to find. If it wasn't for Nita H I would have never known about this place. My first visit here I was starving so I ordered a large order of the jerk chicken with red beans and rice and cabbage. First off, no matter how hungry you are, you will never finish a large order. I made my eyes longer than my stomach could handle. I think it took me two days to finish that plate. But that is not a complaint, as the food was great and it had me hooked. Since my first visit, I have ordered the curry chicken, brown stew chicken, and beef patty. Everything was great. If you have a craving for any Jamaican food, this would be my first recommendation. The spot has minimal seating so don't expect to sit and be served restaurant style. Take a plate to go and enjoy your SMALL platter of food. No matter what you order, I am sure you will not be disappointed.

This is a hidden gem of Fairfax. Right down the street from George Mason University, I saw GMU's basketball coach getting food to go on one of my last visits. The restaurant has a hole in the wall exterior feel but don't let that discourage you from enjoying the cuisine. The food is great and the portions are huge! For about $7 you will be stuffed. I like to go on Fridays because that's when they have Jerk Pork. Everything I've tried on the menu is great but if you are new to Caribbean food I definitely recommend the Jerk Chicken.

This is a great little "Hole in the wall". Best Jamaican food I have found in this area. I just purchased some Jerk Chicken, Ox-Tail, and Curry Goat for a lunch meeting at work. My co-workers couldn't stop raving about how good it was. I just wish finding parking was easier...new construction took over the closest public parking lot. But its worth the risk of a ticket to park in one of private lots while you grab your quick take-out order.

Yah Mon! I'm a fan! We came here for the first time a couple weeks ago and ordered the goat curry and brown stew chicken, and both were incredible! As other have said, the restaurant is more of a carry out spot with a couple of tables, but if you want some tasty authentic Jamaican food, this restaurant won't disappoint!

OMG!!!! The food here is sooooo good, I got the ox tails and my mom and sister got the jerk chicken, and we all got chicken patties. When I tell you I almost made myself sick trying to eat it all cause it was so good, my sister took my plate from me, cause she saw I was about to be miserable, lol. We all loved our food, and the portions are big enough to feed you for 2-3 days. I recommend anyone coming here especially if you have a taste for a good Caribbean meal. Yea they're not in a great place but their food and customer service makes up for all of that. Again a definite must go to place, I hit this spot up every time I want some ox tails, cause home is just a little too far to get it, lol.

Delicious!!!! so surprised that I found this place in fairfax. It is good. There's nothing else to say. It's that real caribbean food. Home made goodness

This is the best jerk chicken I've ever eaten. The friendly kitchen staff also offerred me some homemade pickled onions and peppers. The onion had a slow-building burn which left me wanting casein or alcohol to flush out the capsaisin; I didn't dare try the chilli pepper. Will go back for brown chicken and beef patties.

This place is a no frills experience. It's a dive . Hard to find because it is on the side behind another restaurant. You have to walk through a parking lot to get to it. I'm stating this not to discourage, just to edify. The food is excellent. Have had the Curry Goat, Curry Chicken and the Jerk Chicken. All good. They offer 2 sizes, small and large. The large portions live up to their name. But even the small would be a medium at most places. Now my experience with Caribbean Food is not extensive, but this seems like very authentic Caribbean cooking. Their plantains were a new experience for me because the ones I have had in the past have been doused in a sweet syrupy glaze. These are lightly seasoned and cook to perfection. You really taste the banana, unlike the syrupy concoctions from my past.

I've tried many Caribbean restaurants and this place is good but it did not wow me. I was not disappointed but I was not impressed either. This place does give you the most bang for your buck as far as quantity. I will be back.

I ordered the brown stew and curry. It was great, we absolutely loved the food. Loved the rice and peas, perfect consistency and flavor. The curry and brow stew were seasoned to the bone. Only complaint, need more rice! Staff was great

I have been going here for the last few years, this place is phenomenal. I think I have tried everything on their menu and you can not make a bad decision. My only wish is that they would open up a few more throughout the DC area.

Came here for the first time last week and i loved it. Ever since i went to Jamaica and had the goat curry, brown stew chicken, and ox tail there , i have been craving it. Not many places in the Northern Virginia area that serve this style food. i asked my brother who is a big Foodie and he recommended me to go here. This place did not disappoint. i had the ox Tail which was tender and had lots of flavor. i would go here everyday if i could. nice size platter if you get the large size. can save some of it for later. The place is in old town fairfax, kind of a hole in the wall but i love places like that. right to the point of great food. I highly recommend you try this place out if your looking for some Caribbean food.

    (5)
  • Katy T.

The oxtails were tender and had a little flavor to it, just okay. The Red Pea Soup was not good IMO; it was way too salty and had a gloopy undesirable texture to it. The coco bread was good. Very nice service, but the food was not good enough for me to return anytime soon.

Maybe I was spoiled living in Miami, but I've had my fair share of Caribbean-inspired food that was made by people who are from the islands. And that shit was good. This was meh. Just meh. You would never take a date to this place (unless she was awesome, and doesn't mind eating in the car after you get the food to go, because the "restaurant" is a basement hole which shares a bathroom with the adjoining restaurant). You will not be wowed by the food. Ox-tail was okay, jerk chicken was not good. It was just missing something. You will not like the prices, for the portions served. Their small dinner plates are 75% rice (which is delicious, but if I wanted rice, I'd just go to my grandma's house). You're better served flying down to South Florida (or better yet, Jamaica) and getting the real deal.

I love this place. I'm glad it's so far from my house, because if it was closer I'd be big as a house. The Jerk Pork on Fridays is the best. Not the best looking place, but they live up to the old saying that "the more rundown a place looks, the better the food."

This is my once a week spot! The good is superb. Typically hole in the wall type of joint but worth the trip!

  • Marc J.

Wonderful little joint. My wife is Jamaican, and from New York City. She said this is some of the best Jamaican food she has had since leaving New York. I have had Jamaican/West Indian cooking for years, and this place is awesome. I would say my only criticism is that it is hard to find. If you don't know the neighborhood, and don't really slow down to look...you will drive right past the place. Who knows...maybe that's a blessing, so the place won't be crowded.

My first review, so I'll keep it simple. Caribbean Corner is one of my favorite places to eat. As the other reviewers have stated, it is more of a takeout location. The jerk chicken is is tender, and borders on the spicier side. It is served with a jerk reduction, peas and rice (think beans and rice), plantains, cooked cabbage, and fresh sliced tomatoes. I've had the curry goat, ox tails, and beef patties. The oxtails are awesome, but you don't get much oxtails. They were sliced thin as opposed to getting what you think of as an ox tail bone. It comes with the standard complement of peas and rice, cabbage, and plantains. My only frustration with this place are the hours. I've driven by twice only for the place to be closed without explanation during their normal published hours. I would definitely recommend Caribbean Corner, just call ahead to make sure they are open.

Okay so if you are looking for anything fancy, this is not the place for you. But the food and customer service is amazing. If you don't know what something tastes like they will happily grab a toothpick and let you try it out. Very affordable and the food is just amazing. I've taken multiple friends and co workers here to try it out, and no one has left disappointed.

This place is such an asset in Northern VA. Since its the only place of its kind in the area I thought I should give it a try since I had a craving and I refused to travel to DC or MD. The brown stew chicken was great, rice n peas close to perfect and the plantains were perfectly ripened during my visit. I tasted the jerk on another visit and it was just okay. However, I would like to go back to try that brown stew chicken again!

true hole in the wall. i like those, maybe we showed up close to closing... got the jerk chicken, it was pretty good sauce was very salty... only gripe. will give another shot.

Most food connoisseur would agree that most hole in the wall restaurants have the best food. Caribbean Corner is just that spot. I only went there once but the food was definitely de-lis-us. I ordered the oxtails. I think they were reasonably priced based on other Caribbean locations. Not a fancy place, but I will eat there again.

  • Jane D.

Yes it is a dingy hole in the wall with zero decor. Who cares? In fact the atmosphere...from the dinge to the guys hanging out watching TV...is authentically Jamaican. As is the jar of pickled onion carrot and hot pepper on the counter. The rice and beans is NOT the coconut and thyme flavored dish you get in the caribbean; I think its made with chicken broth. But its just fine for soaking up gravy and those vinegary pickled veggies. I had the fish, which was a whole small snapper, fried then covered with sauce, the dish that would be called escoveitch in Jamaica. It was perfect. So was the curry goat I took home. Rice aside it was just like you would get at a little roadside shack in Jamaica and that is high praise. And prices are reasonable at 9 bucks for a big serving of home cooking. The real thing,

My husband was raised in Jamaica and we are always interested in finding authentic Jamaican food. The shop represented what you would find in Jamaica. The food was close to what he grew up with but it was just a little too salty. We had the stew chicken and jerk chicken. We will have to try again to see if it was a one time issue. We recovered after having a couple glasses of water after our meal.

I am absolutely in love with this place! I've come here a couple of times! The food tastes authentic! The jerk chicken has the right amount of spices! I, myself am Indian, so I am used to spicy foods- so I LOVED it! There's not a lot of room, to eat in the restaurant. If your looking to go to a fancy place- this is not the restaurant for you. It seems kind of dingy looking- a very "hole in the wall" type restaurant. But the atmosphere is very welcoming and the food is authentic! The service is great! Lat time I went, the servers would sporadically come over and ask us if we needed anything and gave us extra food! They were very accommodating and made us feel right at home!

I've always heard people talk about Jamaican Jerk Chicken, and I never really knew what the big deal was..........UNTIL I ate at Caribbean Comer! During my lunch break, I made a quick spot at this restaurant which is tucked away in a corner of Main Street. I was greeted by Bob Marley music and a friendly staff. Being greeted by reggae music will always puts me in a good mood and also subconsciously make me feel like I need to munch on something................ I ordered the Jamaican Chicken which was served with beans, rice, and fried plantains. I loved the combination. I was itching to try their famous Ox Tail, but that is only served on certain days. I enjoyed the food, and will definitely be back on another day for some good ol' Ox tail =P

The food here is amazing!!!! I had the jerk chicken with rice and beans. My mouth is watering writing this review cause I can eat some right about now. This is definitely a hole in the wall. There isn't any seating area, just get your food and go.

  • Karen S.

This place invented "hole in the wall." It's in a tiny little out of the way basement in Fairfax city. I'm pretty sure that the only way this place hasn't been closed due to health code violations is because the health department doesn't know it exists! That being said, they probably have the best Jamaican food outside of Jamaica. Get the jerk chicken with rice and plantain and you cannot go wrong. The chicken was fantastically spicy and flavorful and the plantain was perfect. Get your food to go and enjoy it elsewhere. Don't come if you're in a rush, this place definitely runs on island time. You might wait 20 minutes even if you're the only person there.

  • Amber M.

The food is Deeeeelicious...........I had the ox tails with rice and peas. The ox tails were tender with a brown gravy (yumm). The rice and peas were good especially mixed with the brown gravy. Caribbean corner gets 5 stars for flavor and 10 stars for winning as a hole in the wall food establishment. My hubby had the jerk chicken and it was equally good and spicy. He def had heartburn but said it was worth it.

  • William B.

Don't be fooled by the small location, this place is PRIME TIME. I come here at least twice a week craving their Ox Tail. A bit pricey, but without a doubt worth it. Ox Tail in super markets are not cheap so it is understandable but going out and buying your own food thinking you can recreate what Caribbean Corner does is absurd. They make quality meals and their red beans and rice mixed with the gravy and plantains is to die for. Very nice people working as well, Goat curry is decent, but they specialize in Ox Tail in my opinion.

I ate here at least once every other week during my 2 years of grad school at GMU. It's amazing! I will say that some of the food (mainly the beef/oxtail) dishes were a bit salty for my taste. However, their brown stew chicken was one of the best things I've ever tasted. The chicken is always juicy and seasoned to perfection! The cabbage, rice and plantains were always tasty as well. I've never been disappointed eating here. Sadly, I no longer live in Virginia so I no get to enjoy the food from Caribbean Corner. I've tried to find a place in LA that can cook as well as they do and it just doesn't taste the same. I would definitely stop by to get food here if I was in the NOVA area in the future.

This place is hard to spot. However, once found you will have no regrets. Their Curry goat is the best I've had in Northern VA. I've had the oxtail, callaloo, chicken soup, curry chicken... It's all really great food for the soul. Now, if you're looking for a nice place to sit down to eat - you will not be too satisfied. It's pretty small and I think I saw only one table overlooking the kitchen area - Don't let the appearance throw you off, because as I mentioned above the food is superior. The staff behind the counter are really friendly - however, I was unable to get the chef to tell me where he buys the fresh callaloo from =D

I had Jamaican and Bahamian room mates so picked up a little knowledge on Caribbean food (its where my love for coco bread began). Sice it was my first venturing, I ordered a few small sizes entrees (all of which come with rice). Curry chicken spot on! Even my 3 year-old loves it. Jerk chicken was originally too spicy, but after reheating it a few hours later it tasted phenomenial --- same for the ox tail. Coco bread was nice and moist, yet dense enough to sop up sauces. I shall be back!

  • Wendy L.

Absolute perfection! The cocoa bread is amazing, the jerk chicken, jerk pork and shrimp curry are out of this world. Whole in the wall place but we can be spotted there almost every Friday night with our 2 year old, who also loves the food and dancing to the Reggae blasting in the background!

Mmm... I *heart* Jamaica and Jamaican food! I went in today for a late lunch and had an even better experience than my last great experience here. We actually didn't carry out and sat in at one of the 3 small tables they have in here looking into the kitchen and chatted it up with the people working here (including the chef) about our recent visit to Jamaica. After asking them if they make certain dishes that I had when I was in Jamaica, they told me they only have one of those dishes once a week and the other one they never offer on the menu. HOWEVER, they told us to come in tomorrow and they would make those dishes just for us. How freaking awesome????? They were already awesome because of their food, then more awesome for being so nice, which makes them what now for going out of their way to make a non-menu dish for us...the EPITOME of AWESOME! This may be a straight up hole in the wall but their food and people make for a great experience that always has me talking this place up.

My daughter and I enjoyed a dinner here and will be going back soon. I'd never had oxtail before...deliciously messy and leaves you wanting the rest of the cow. I'm not sure how you're supposed to eat oxtail, so I just picked them up and went to town. Seems like it would be easier to eat if the butcher left it whole. The seasoning/sauce was very good, not too hot or overpowering. +1 My daughter had the jerk chicken, which she completely devoured. It was a little spicier and she eventually gave in and drank a little water. I think I may get that next time. +1 The Marley tunes, the words to which immediately came back to me after 20 years out of college, made for a nice bonding moment with my 14 year-old. +1 The staff was friendly and helpful and seemed happy we were there. +1 This is not the kind of place that makes for special nights to remember... dining in means sitting in one of the three booths overlooking the kitchen and a large delivery map of Fairfax. And the plastic knife didn't really keep up.

  • Julie P.

mmMm.... decor wise, again not the prettiest place. However, food is definitely worth coming back for. My friend and I tried the small sizes of jerk chicken and brown stew chicken. The jerk was spicier with a bit of sweetness whereas the brown stew was sweet and tender. The rice was good but the cabbage and vegetables were ho-hum .... slightly over-steamed....but maybe that's the way they're supposed to be. ^^ oh! they have bottled pineapple soda that tastes like a sweeter version of inca cola! Parking: park across the street, or better yet park at the free parking garage down past old town hall and enjoy a nice stroll.

When most people think of a corner shop, they usually think of a street intersection where there's a lot of foot traffic and high visibility. No, this is back corner, as in you wouldn't even know it was there if you drove on university drive a million times. This is the back corner, where the wafting aroma of the trash is never too far away. Forget hole in the wall, this downstairs eatery is hole in the ground. Bob Marley's greatest hits are always crooning and the savory smells of jerk spices are superior to any incense. They have the classics from curry chicken to jerk chicken to beef stew (special on Tuesdays!) to ox-tail. My personal favorite is the jerk chicken served on a nuclear hot bed of rice. I dunno where they keep it but it always comes out at least 300 degrees. The owner/cook is always super nice and loves to hook it up with free samples, but what can I say I love to jerk the chicken.

Massive quantities of food for cheap! Located in a true hole in the wall this place is a charm. The friendly Jamaican (owner?) lady serves up a styrofoam platter loaded with rice, beans and your choice of meat and plantains. Not much else to say aside from the fact that its great food! Try the cocoanut bread, its only a buck or two and delish. Be prepared not to be able to move too far too fast after you eat all this food though. There isn't much seating inside, i think only one table so be prepared to take your food elsewhere. I think it's mainly take-away anyways.

oh so happy to have found this place. Ever since my trip to jamaica a couple years ago i have been hooked on jerk pork and had not been able to find a local spot that served it. Always had to cook it myself. Thank you caribbean corner! The jerk pork was very good but they only serve it on fridays! I will def be there every friday to pickup a few orders :D

This place is a hole in the wall. I love it! You come in and there's reggae playing on the radio and authentic Jamaican food cooking in the back. I ordered the small jerk chicken which was around $5. It came with jerk chicken, salad, plantains, and rice and was plenty of food for lunch. I'll be baaack, mon!

This place is fantastic. It's like they purposely decorated with every crooked, mismatched, old price of furniture and equipment they could find; I love it! The food was amazing, great price, huge portions. Staff was really friendly, atmosphere was a trip - reggae blasting in the background, Jamaican flags everywhere. A+

This place is located behind a building with free parking across the street. It's a quaint little place with a nice staff. Now on to the food! 1). Beef patty- Decent but it was a bit dry and hard around the edges. Perhaps it was a bit old but the filling inside was pretty good. 2). combination platter of Ox Tail and Stew Chicken- Only real problem that I have with Caribbean Corner is that they do not give large portions. I'm talking I got one chicken leg lol and 4 small ox tails. No stew added. I was not happy about this considering I paid $14. It does come with a side of cabbage and plantain (both were edible). The taste of the ox tail and stew chicken wasnt anything spectacular but good. 3). The rice- Their rice is freaking awesome. I had a lot of rice left over. I mean a loootttt so I heated up the rice later and ate it as a separate meal. Very tasty rice. Overall I will visit this place again because it is probably the only Caribbean restaurant in Northern Virginia. However, I do enjoy Maryland Caribbean restaurants more. There is one in Hyattsville and Fort Washington which have great portion sizes and super tasty. I hope you found this Yelp helpful!

I heard about this place through word-of-mouth? It has been open since April '09? I need to step my Fairfax game up! Its tough. The decision I have to make for this unique place. It is surely a hole-in-the-wall. But there is nothing like it in the lame town of Fairfax that can quite measure up. The closest thing to even come close is Wild Chicken behind Guitar Center. Very very mom and pops. Limited seating. Corner is mainly designed for carry out or catering. Unknowingly, I took the dine-in option and was sitting mere feet from the kitchen and the kitchen sink. It could be a bit dirty for some but I did not mind much. It was probably because my Jerk Chicken was perfect and stimulating my taste buds. Not too spicy and the meat fell right off the bone. Compliment that with rice/beans & stewed cabbage. I was done before I even got to the latter. The Jamican kola was nothing special. The owner said to try the Ackee and Salt Fish or the Brown Stew Chicken next time. O Yes, there will be a next time! The customer service is aight. The only person who had a "service with a smile" was the owner who was giving away chicken leftovers to patrons :) The prices are OK and so was the Jamaican Beef Patty (SPICY!). Hours are wack. Yes we know that (Look at my pics. Posted hours from the pamplet. Sunday hours are wrong. I think they close down the shop that day. Just tried.). They get a star off for that. But once you look past that and finally try the food. The place is not so bad...

I lived in the Caribbean and I like to eat, so I would say my palette is better than most. This place is okay. Not great and not bad, just okay. I ordered the oxtail (I'm obsessed with oxtail) and that was pretty good. Usually, when I eat at a place that I really like, I tend to talk about it ALOT and manage to find a way to eat there with different people everyday for the next week or so. With this place I didn't feel that urge. I hope Fairfax gets hip to the fact that Caribbean food is amazing and more Caribbean places open up around here.

If this rating was solely based on the food, I would give this place 5 stars easily. I ordered curry goat, rice and peas, fried plantains, and a beef patty. Everything was seasoned well, very tasty, meat was cooked perfectly and was very juicy. The beef patty was fine although you could probably buy equally good patties in the frozen section of your grocery store. Ok, so why the 3 stars? I first tried to place an order by phone, and my call kept going straight to voicemail. After 3-4 tries and 20 minutes later, someone finally picked up and took my order. She told me it would be ready in 20 min. Fine. Thirty minutes later I show up to pick up my food and there are a few people ahead of me who are waiting for their food. It appears that they had been there a while. I felt fortunate that I called ahead. Well, 20 minutes in line and my order is still not out. I finally told the person I had to leave. It was then that i was informed that they are cooking the peas and rice and it would be another 30 minutes before it was ready!! Did they not think of telling me this when i first came in? They offered to substitute in white rice. I was so upset, but at that point i was already running late so I said fine. My order finally came out. I thought, going by the clock on their wall, that i would have about 5 minutes to eat before my meeting. Got my food, ran to the car and started driving. When i opened everything up, i noticed there was no rice! No rice and peas, no white rice. Ugh. It was too late for me to go back at this point because when i looked at the time in my car i realized their clock was slow by 30 minutes!!! So I was actually already late for my meeting. I tried to call the restaurant to tell them to credit my card... but my call went straight to voicemail. One other thing is they need to work on how they package the food. My goat was in a flimsy styrofoam container and all the sauce had leaked into the plastic bag by the time i opened it. Also, the fried plantains were put into a brown paper bag and the grease was seeping through. They are sooo lucky the food was good! Note: Although this is labeled as a "caribbean" restaurant, the food is strictly Jamaican food.

Being from NY/NJ and growing up with a Jamaican friend, I love me some curry goat, oxtail, jerk chicken, beef patty with champagne cola. I use to go to Negril years ago when it was good and Tropicana near 930 club when convenient. Now that I work in FFX, I figured I it was a lost cause for Jamaican food. I was wrong... The eatery itself is non existent as it is basically a carry out joint. Parking is zero but I park at the office building next door checking my car every minute or waiting outside after I order my food to make sure it doesn't get towed. All of this is worth it as the food is delicious. Do not expect a restaurant as none of the tasty Jamaican places are. I suggest the curry goat, oxtail and jerk chicken. I hear the wings are good but haven't tried them. The pieces of meat could be bigger, but the authentic flavors are there and it definitely satisfies my hunger for good Jamaican food. Give it a try!

I was torn between the goat curry and ox tail stew and when I asked the man behind the counter what his preference was, he said ox tail but if I ordered a large ox tail, he could do half goat curry and half ox tail. Very polite and nice man. Kept referring to me as 'sir' lol. They are just 2 different tasting foods but both were very, very good. If you like bones in your food like I do (the meat by the bone is always the tastiest) both are great options. My only complaint would be that for the price of $11.50, to get more of the curry or stew - I know goat and ox tail isn't cheap. The rice they serve the food on is more than generous and they give you some vegetables and plantains, all very good. I will definitely be back. As others have stated it isn't the easiest place to find but the comments people have left helped me find it quicker. I actually ended up parking in the shopping center where the restaurant is located in but I think that lot would result in the risk of being towed. It is connected to the subway so who knows. Definitely a gem serving very good homestyle food. The flavors are not as strong as Indian food so if you're in the mood for a hearty meal, you shouldn't be disappointed.

People don't let the hole in the whole atmosphere deter you. Despite a grimy entrance and exterior the joint was clean, the service friendly and the food delish.. This is not a place that caters to sit down meals, more carry out.. I had the curry goat, tender not remotely gamey and filling.. My husbster enjoyed the jerk chicken.. Meals came with red bean and rice, a few pieces of plantain and cabbage.. The only things I thought was a bust was the beef patty. Too little meat filling and slightly greasy. Not my cup of tea that.. But main course most def worthy of a repeat visit.

Very flavorful food overall. I had their Stew Beef, Jerk Chicken and Plantains. The Stew Beef was amazing but is only sold on Tuesdays so do not get too excited. The Jerk Chicken and rice were on point but I was a little underwhelmed by the Plantains. Regardless I will definitely be making another stop here in the near future!

Open your eyes real wide to find this place on the side of the restaurant, Sabzi. Not the most nicely decorated place but the food is delicious. And if you ask what Ackee is, there is a picture right behind the counter where the owner will explain to you what it is and your appreciation for the decor behind the counter will suddenly come together. We decided on the jerk chicken and the ackee and saltfish. (We're told the jerk chicken is spicier than the Jamaican curry chicken.) I really enjoyed the Ackee and Saltfish. The rice was tender and fluffy with the pieces of fish, red bell peppers, and ackee laid on top. The cabbage and fried plantains complemented the meal well. I wish I had more of the fried plantains but there was definitely enough rice. And just in case you didn't know, rice and peas really mean rice and red kidney beans =) The jerk chicken had a kick to it but the way it was cut increased the chance that bits of bone might be mixed into the rice. Eat with caution! Lastly, get the Ting drink!

This is the one and only Jamaican spot I've been able to find in VA so I was prepared to be disappointed. Not! I got the Jerk chicken and it was delish and tasted much more authentic then the last time I tried it at another spot in DC where it tasted like a diabetic sugary mess. Had I paid attention to the previous reviews I would have realized how in the cut it is as I walked right past it. Right off of University and Main and near ICONS bar .As previous reviews state its a small hole in the wall behind the subway and another restaurant near the small parking lot. Very satisfying and filling as they give you more then enough rice and peas lol. Just wish I had got a side order of the plantains. Only complaint is that the chicken was a lil boney but keeps it true to the authenticity I guess. But all in all I'm glad I found it and I will be back.

just found out they have a small and large size. the small meal is only $5!!! I tried their jerk pork today and it was good. It was not hot at all. and got an extra side dish of fried plantains. If you love fried bananas, try their fried plantains. It is super sweet! They also added some more tables and chairs. I think it can fit 5-8 customers.

Tried the jerk chicken and ox tail. The jerk chicken was too salty for my tastes but we did get the batch that was on the bottom since they were almost out. The chicken was juicy but couldn't get past the overly salty taste. The jerk chicken came with rice, cabbage and plantains. Not a fan of the plantains, seemed like they were raw. The ox tail was good and just right. Portions were good for the price. Would come again to try something else.

When a group of my culinary school friends and I walked into the Caribbean Corner, there was an older man walking out. He asked us if any of us had had Jamaican food before, and when most of us said no, he told us he was Jamaican and he drove up from Blacksburg twice a week to eat there. At first glance, the tables didn't match, the stereo is badly in need of replacing, and there probably ought to be some laminated menus. Then I noticed they had imported Jamaican ginger beer and forgot all about the skipping CD. After having eaten there, I can understand why someone would drive so far for food. The food was phenomenal. I tried some of the jerk chicken, the chicken curry, and the oxtail soup, and ordered the goat curry myself. I went in at lunch and got a small. At dinner that day, I was still full. Not in that "ate so much it hurts" way, but in the rare, desirably satiated way. It's perfectly spiced for me, though it might be too salty for some palates. This is not low-fat, low-sodium food, this is authentic Jamaican cooking. If you're looking for the real deal, look here.

I finally ventured out to this place to try my first carribean experience. I ordered the roti chicken curry. The place is tucked away in old town fairfax. the interior itself is minimal. They have a kitchen, a register, and one table. The people there were nice and friendly. The portions of the food were big and the chicken was really tender. However, there was just something I wasnt crazy about. It wasnt bad, but it didnt blow my mind. I ordered food for another person in my office, my order, and 2 drinks. I find that this place isnt crazy expensive, but for lunch its not cheap. Total, i think i paid a little over $20. I might come back and try other things. But for me this is like a once in a long time type place to go to.

We went here for takeout and ordered brown chicken, curry chicken and fish. My daughter loved her curry chicken and brown chicken. My husband liked the fish. The owner is friendly. This place is definitely a hole in the wall but it's great!

The great thing about Caribbean Corner is that the food is very tasty and filling- not to mention inexpensive! I eat there at least four times a month..(on the days i'm too lazy to prepare it myself.) My favorite dishes are the "escovitch fish" and the oxtail... delicious.

Great food! So far I've tried the jerk chicken, curry chicken and goat, and ox tail. . . my new favorite spot for ox tail :)

How did I not know about this place? I love West Indian/ Caribbean food - especially Jamaican food. For years, I'd drive into The District to buy Jamaican food. There another place in Northern Virginia that I'd gone too, but it's farther than this place. I'm very glad to have a Jamaican place close to home. Just wish I had known about it sooner...

Fantastic, cheap, feels like real real jamaican. It's the definition of a dive, but the food is fantastic. Really nice people own it as well.

The reviewer who said they're out of business is incorrect - we ate there 3/19/11. They are around the corner & downstairs from the Indian restaurant. Yes it is a hole in the wall - but with great food & great people. Had Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, & Red Pea Soup. All were very good & the owners couldn't be nicer. Will definitely be going back.

not bad now this really is a "hole in the wall" three little tiny cafe style tables, I guess its more of a carry out I had the brown chicken with cabbage and peas, rice and plantain. just had a small portion, it was mildly spicy and filling. would like to tryout other dishes like curry and jerk chicken, but the cook looks authentic! no frills, even had Bob Marley in the background. the jerk chcicken was tasty, spicy and not dry, the curry chicken was just as spicy, nice large portion for lunch

TL;DR: Yummy Jamaican food, very cheap, just don't expect atmosphere. This is another hidden little gem in Fairfax, this one hidden at the end of the parking lot next to Sabzi Kabobs (formerly Bombay Garden). When you see the entrance it seems like the kind of place you'd *expect* to be grimy... but you'd be wrong. Maybe not gleaming, but it certainly looked clean to me. There are a few tables, but I'm not sure they're for sitting at and eating, rather than waiting for a carryout order. We took ours home. We had the jerk chicken and the curry chicken, plus a side of coco bread. The chicken was deliciously flavorful, the jerk not too hot. Both were served atop "rice and peas" (you can choose that or white rice) and some vegetable that I think was sauteed cabbage, with a few pieces of fried plantain. The "peas" in the "rice and peas" weren't what we Americans usually call peas; in the recipes I just Googled, apparently Jamaican "rice and peas" is rice and either kidney beans or pigeon peas. The rice seems to be cooked along with the chicken, as the rices were flavored like the chicken, more than would be explained by the chicken juices dripping on it. The coco bread is a small, very soft, round loaf, somewhat like King's Hawaiian bread but flat on top, with a hint of coconut. The only downside on the food is that a large amount of the volume of the chicken was taken up by bone, but it was still a decent amount of meat. (Especially for the price.) The service was fine. The guy at the counter was very helpful in explaining what some things were that we weren't familiar with. The food was ready fairly quickly, though I'd still recommend calling ahead. (We didn't because we were originally going to go to Sabzi... but Sabzi was closed.)

I love this place!! It's near my office, so that makes it dangerous, because I could eat there every day. The food is pretty authentic. I usually have their curried goat. The owners are really nice and we often chat about Jamaica. When I bring new customers they treat them so well offering samples of the various dishes, so that the newbies can find something they like.

Tip to the wise- park on the other side of University Drive in the public lot. Much easier than pulling into their driveway. Talk about something new! It's about time we got some Caribbean goodness in Fairfax! Zach- I think that must have been a fluke. They should be open M-F 11:00 - 7:00 and Saturday 11:00 - 9:00. You gotta try again! =)

As a West Indian American recently moved to the area from the northeast I have been having issues adjusting in a locale with little caribbean presence... This place saved me! (from what? not sure, but it definitely has!) I was so happy when I stumbled upon this restaurant in Yelp. The people are friendly, the food is cooked to order, it tastes good, and the serving sizes even as a small are generous! I will become a regular to this establishment!

I love the food here!! It was my first time eating here and this is truly a "hole in the wall" which makes me love it even more considering it's in Fairfax. The food is authentic Jamaican cuisine and well seasoned to my liking. I got the curry chicken and the meat literally falls off the bone. This will definitely be a staple and I can't say how surprised I am that they have this establishment in Fairfax but hey I live here so I'm happy.

Having grown up on Jamaican food in DC/MD, I've been longing to find a good place in VA. As other mentioned, it is literally a hole in the wall, but I knew it would be good as soon as I walked in. I had them make up a big platter of just about everything on the menu. I can say that everything was very good to excellent. Cant wait to get back there soon.

I went there today around 5:30pm, They were also closed for plumbing.....Very funny considering it was closed for plumbing on 8/17. Fire the plumber. I will try again tomorrow.

I wish that I had taken a picture of the entrance, but this is the quintessential "hole in the wall". It's located behind another restaurant, and just has a small sign outside. If you weren't looking for it, I'm sure you'd pass it right by. I'll admit that I was a little skeptical since upon entering this establishment I started entertaining the unfortunate possibility that we might be shot, stabbed, offered drugs, or perhaps hookers? It's sketchy, but the gentleman manning the counter was real cool and when he found out that we didn't know what ox tail was, he ran to the kitchen to get us a sample and a wad of napkins to wipe our newly sauce soaked fingertips! Fabulous. We ended up ordering the Jerk Chicken and the Ox Tail, both were small orders and despite that, the to-go boxes must have weighed over a pound each. Totally delicious, especially the Jerk Chicken and it's peppery sauce. YUM. Let's throw one more YUM in for good measure, it truly was delicious. No question, I'd return....I'm thinking about that Jerk Chicken right now....*drool*.

I was very, very happy with the jerk chicken and the oxtail stew. Both dishes were cooked perfectly. The chicken had a lot of flavor, and just a kiss of heat. The oxtail was beautiful, tender but still on the bone, and the sauce was delicious. These folks certainly know what they're doing. The place is a hole in the wall, but it does have a few tables. The people working here couldn't have been nicer, and were very accommodating when I explained that I was bringing home dinner for my kids and just wanted the meat and veggies, without the rice (this was around noon; no sense re-heating old rice when it's easy enough to make fresh). I will certainly go back!

The food here is amazing! I never tried Jamaican food before, so I decided to try it for the first time. The minute I walked in, the workers there were very friendly! I got the oxtail and it was pretty good. My only concern is Caribbean Corner is small, so there isn't enough tables and chairs enough for people to actually dine in and sit down.

Today is the first day of the NCAA tournament. So obviously, I'm hiding from work and screening my calls. I figured a thick meal of rice and peas and some form of meat would put me in the correct state to enjoy games and watch as every pick I made on my bracket comes out wrong. What? Cornell isn't going to the Final Four? Dammit. I wanted to go with the jerk chicken but they didn't have it today. At that point, I decided to go with Mischa's advice and just ask what they did have rather than play the game of guess what's available. I settled on the fish. It came with rice and peas, sauteed vegetables, and some fried plantains. I also went with an extra side of fried plantains. And what is the appropriate beverage to wash down such a meal? Ting, obviously. The fish was pretty good, although it's not for those of you who don't like getting down and dirty sucking the meat off fish bones. It was fish with a tomato, bell pepper, and onion sauce. You're going to have a fish head staring back at you. The rice and peas were decent at best. Not as flavorful as I would have liked, but then again it's Fairfax. What do you expect? The vegetables were meh and the plantains were good but a little on the greasy side as indicated by the small puddle of oil left behind. Serving size is pretty big and if you're an average eater, you'll have leftovers. Me, no leftovers. Service was good. The staff was pretty friendly. The restaurant itself is really only visible from the driveway. It's located next to Bombay Garden closer to the corner of Sanger and University. There's a really tight lot across the street but then again, all the free municipal lots are within walking distance. Also, the guy at the counter said that they open up at 11:30 not 11:00 as listed here. There are two tables, so eating in is probably not going to be your best option. Overall, not a bad place to try out for something different. It's not the best Jamaican food that you'll have but it might satisfy your craving. I reserve giving my full recommendation until I try their jerk chicken.

I first found this place when I was getting tattooed over at Marlowe Ink on Main St... this joint is on the back side of the same building. The incredibly delicious odors coming around the corner drew me in. My first time here I was greeted by the owner/cashier with nothing but smiles and good nature. She gave me all sorts of samples as I knew almost nothing about Carribean Cuisine. She brought out some goat curry, oxtail stew, and a couple other things, every one of which was nothing short of amazing. My wife ended up getting the chicken roti and I went with the goat curry, and we got a couple Jamaican Beef Patties. Everything we got was nothing short of delicious. We've been back a few times since and the owner is just as sweet as she was the first time we went. I really can't express enough how awesome the service is here. The place is tiny... I think there are only two tables with seating for a total of maybe 6 or 8 people, and it is indeed right next to the kitchen sink. This is, as others have noted, more of a carryout type place. It's not gourmet food, so I can't give it 5 stars, but it is incredibly delicious and savory. Just beware that they do things a bit differently than we do in the Carribean and there WILL be pieces of bone in with the meat. This is a cultural thing, so don't be put off - you won't be disappointed.

Buried in a corner in Fairfax, this hole-in-the-wall, plastic-plates joint serves up quality Caribbean food with pleasant service among the obligatory Bob Marley posters. The owner is the chef, and his wife handles the cash register. They're exceedingly nice to customers, and give out samples of random dishes if the place isn't packed. Two people can easily eat for $15. Tried a couple of items: -Curry goat was very good. It's served with rice, sliced plantains, and a sort of salad. Get the large portion and split it with 2 people. -Beef patties are passable, though thin and not particularly flavorful. Skip em unless you're really in the mood. -Jerk chicken is perfect. It's gets spicier a few seconds after you bite into it. Well-cooked, falls right off the bone. Caribbean Corner also has a nice selection of Jamaican sodas to go with your meal. The only problems are that the menu is unreliable (ask what they're out of before you make your choices), and the place isn't air conditioned. They're trying with large fans, but it's still pretty hot. All in all, Jamaican food is hard to find in the area and Caribbean Corner more than pulls it off.

I've been dying to get me some good Jamaican food in the Fairfax/Springfield area. The first time I went to this place was on a Sunday.and was upset because they were closed even though it said they were open on Sundays. So I ventured out one more time with my cousin. I got the Curry Goat (my fav) w/ white rice. It also comes with cabbage. When i say it was slamming was an understatement. I also asked the man (owner???) if he made plantains fried hard. He said he normally doesn't would do it for me. That sent me over the edge. I was so happy. They were good also. The food also comes with plantains also. They have a variety of Jamaican bottle drinks and juices. There is only like 2 tables there so don't plan on sitting there and chatting it up. The parking lot where the Caribbean corner is hell. You can pull in, but you can't get out unless you got a small ass car, so you have to back out into traffic. I suggest parking in the open lot across the street. But let me tell you, during the day, the lot is crowded and there is not ample room to back out of the spaces, I would definitely recommend this place, but call before you come if you planning on going on a Sunday.

I attempted to eat here on 8/17/2009, but they were closed due to plumbing problems. I hope to be in the area again, but we will see. Note** If you are going to eat here, you may want to call ahead to see if they are open.

Went there today May 12th at noon and it was closed. I was really excited for some goat curry, so I was very surprised no one was there. The food sounds good but the place is incredibly hard to find and not being open for weekly lunch doesn't bode well for them. If someone knows if this is just a weekly closing I will gladly go back and hopefully raise the rating, but until then it stays at a 1 star

We live right down the street, and never knew this place exists! We randomly ran into it today while doing some errands, and the food was awesome! The woman who greeted us was so nice and friendly, and gave us some samples of their freshly made jerk chicken wings, and they were delish! We ordered the curry chicken, the brown curry and a Jamaican patty...all were really good and the meat was so tender, it was falling off the bone. Everything comes with the standard red beans and rice, plantains, and cooked cabbage. We love Jamaican food and have gone to Jamaica 3 times now in the last few years...it felt like we were back in Negril. We don't care much about the atmosphere, or seating, or service...our review is based on the taste of the food and if you like this style of cuisine, you definitely need to check it out. It's cheap and satisfying. The owner was saying on Fridays, they do jerk fried pork that usually sells out by the afternoon. Will have to try that next!
