I'm a fat girl at heart, so I love me some donuts. I love Howard's donut holes. They are seriously addicting. As an added bonus, I feel like I am not consuming as many calories if I eat..oh..say 15 donut holes instead of 2 real, life size donuts. Shut it. Others have said it, and I'll say it again for good measure. Howard's is a total mom and pop type place. I like supporting mom and pop establishments. It's so much more fulfilling than handing over your hard earned cash to some large chain store. Go here now, and make sure to get some donut holes and a coffee. The coffee is great- only better when you can dunk chocolate and cinnamon donut holes in the warm liquidy goodness.

Yes, my first time eating or visiting Howard's Donut. I actually love the staff and to see the fresh donuts and other pastries on the display shelf. I ate my first Cinnamon Roll, which was HUGE this morning and bottle water. @MemphisYelp #Yelp901First

I am not a huge fan of donuts but my boyfriend wanted donuts so donuts he got! Much to my surprise, I found the most delightful little non-donut treats! It is entirely possible that these mini hot dogs wrapped in mini croissants are going to make me gain 15 pounds. This is potentially very dangerous! Especially since it is right around the corner from my house...3 for $1 - its even economical. And I did steal a bite of the boy's donut...and it was delicious!

I don't frequent donut shops very often, and when I do I expect too much I think. It's like never going to McDonalds, then finally treating yourself to a large fries and they come out soggy. That's how I felt here. If I had gotten a box or eaten in the store, I probably would have given another star, but they crammed both frosted donuts into one tiny bag which turned the contents into a smushy, deflated, colorful mess. The frosting was a little too sweet. I should have stuck with the staples: glazed, sugar and stuffed. All of those looked really good. I also got a plain cake donut and loved it. The batter was very good and it was cooked perfectly; little crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. The coffee is also pretty good, but see if you can get a bigger cup, I apparently ordered a shot.

Best donut I have had in a very long time. I had the french cruller with chocolate glaze. It was still a little warm and so soft. The coffee was good and the prices good too.I will go back next time I am in town

I am basing my 5 star review on the French Crullers alone. I have been eating these things for about 30 years (started at the old location on Union) and they have never failed to be the most scrumptious things I have ever put in my mouth. Not everyone likes French Crullers but it is my favorite type of donut and Howard's knows how to make them. These are not like the cake style regular cruller, these are the lighter ones with the sort of hollow inside. God bless they are good. They melt in your mouth. If you are passing them up when you go to Howard's, you are seriously missing out.

I like to stop in here for donuts on the way to work! You get in and out in a hurry and the customer service people know what they are doing. I like to get a donut hole variety sampler. They have 4 types of donut holes: powdered, cinnamon sugar, chocolate iced, and glazed. There's something about their plain glazed - maybe vanilla in the glaze but they are addictive. They also have the standard chocolate milk, sodas, and juices available for purchase.

I had a city saver coupon for "buy 6 donuts get 6 free". I was a bit disappointed to find out that it really meant get 6 glazed donuts for free regardless of what you got. That aside, the donuts were okay. Not the best, but not the worst I've had either. I do like that their cake donuts are not overpoweringly sweet. I enjoyed that. The glazed donuts were pretty sweet though. Also, the pricing system seemed a bit confusing and incomplete. I'm definitely going to go back there and try more donuts. Definitely worth giving it a try.

Sure, Krispy Kreme gets all the press, but since Mr. Howard opened his shop on Madison and Avalon (now a wings & beepers store), Memphians have flocked in, in the mornings to get a tasty sugar rush and coffee. This location still serves the same recipe blueberry donuts that had a certain singer from Tupelo coming in for more (probably more than he should've) and a chocolate cake donut that was a favorite of Rufus Thomas. *personal favs: apple fritters, the blueberry and the old fashioned chocolate cake donuts.

Good little mom and pop donut shop off of Germantown Parkway, kind of near Wolfchase Galleria. When family come into town, we like to stop into Howards to get some donuts -- they remind me of this little bakery in the town that I grew up in. And any place that reminds me of home, I like. They've been in business for a long time and have some of the best cake donuts around. Does get a little busy, but it's worth the wait.
